New York City black metal collective BLACK ANVIL are now embarking on several live U.S. and Canadian performances in support of IMMOLATION! The banc joins the tour in Detroit, MI tomorrow, March 15 and will conclude with the band's homecoming in New York City on March 19. Formed in 2007 in New York City, Black Metal troupe BLACK ANVIL released their debut album, Time Insults the Mind, on Monumentum/Reflections Records in September 2009, and later that year signed to renowned independent label Relapse Records. After a re-release of their acclaimed 2009 debut, BLACK ANVIL unleashed their first proper full-length Triumvirate in September 2010. Recorded with engineer ‘General’ George Fullan (The Rolling Stones, Dream Theater) at Mark ‘The Animal’ Mendoza’s (Twisted Sister) Diamond Drop Studio on Long Island, NY, Triumvirate received critical acclaim and was hailed as an "all-around monster metal album." Pitchfork even stated, “Black Anvil’s an amazing live band… and their songwriting’s as strong as their stage presence.”

Triumvirate was followed in 2014 by Hail Death, a 70-minute journey of intensity that further established BLACK ANVIL as a modern Black Metal powerhouse and was praised by publications including Noisey, Pitchfork, Stereogum, Metal Injection, and many more. Constantly bringing their live ritual to the masses, BLACK ANVIL has participated in numerous high profile tours with Black Metal legends such as MAYHEM, WATAIN, URFAUST, and MARDUK as well as dates with AURA NOIR, NACHTMYSTIUM, IMMORTAL, EYEHATEGOD, CANNIBAL CORPSE, and many others. Additionally, the band has appeared at various festivals including the Scion Rock Fest, Beyond The Gates in Bergen, Norway and the renowned Roadburn Festival in The Netherlands.

In 2017, BLACK ANVIL dropped their fourth studio-album, As Was, the staggering 50-minute follow-up to 2014's Hail Death. Atmospheric and melodic without relenting on any of the ferocity BLACK ANVIL have always been known for, As Was seamlessly weaves through eight monumental passages of extreme metal art. More diverse, complex, and thought-provoking than anything they've done before, As Was is a stellar representation of modern Black Metal, and of BLACK ANVIL's continuous progression and songcraft. Starbenders Release New Single + Music Video "Seven White Horses" via Sumerian Records

Atlanta-based glam punk rockers Starbenders have today dropped a new single and music video, "Seven White Horses" (via Sumerian Records). Speaking on today's release, Kimi Shelter shares:

"The road has a way of putting you in the zone and realizations come to visit. The words of Seven White Horses rushed in during one of these road-inspired epiphanies. The song’s about rebirth, where you have to leave things behind, killing off your weaker self to rise."

This week also marks the one year anniversary of "Love Potions (Zodiac Deluxe)" which has five additional songs captured during the making of their full-length debut "Love Potions", including a Celtic-tinged, mandolin-laced interpretation of their single "BITCHES BE WITCHES" along with a trip-hop, nineties inspired remix of "Push". Åskväder Release Energetic New Single "Zealot"

New Album, 'Fenix', Out March 25th!

Sweden’s Åskväder have released the fourth and final single from their upcoming sophomore album 'Fenix'. The new song, titled "Zealot”, is a punchy and direct track with a driving drum beat and electrifying melodies. The single is a true outburst of garage rock energy, recorded live in the studio.

Martin Gut from the band comments on the single:

”Zealot was a really tough one to record, definitely the song that took the most amount of takes to get right. The inspiration for writing the track came from listening to a podcast about the band Enforcer. To put it short, this track is Åskväder’s take on speed metal. The lyrics describe how life can change quickly for the little man depending on circumstances that are bigger than ourselves, and how we have to follow the rules of the system fanatically.”

Åskväder's sophomore studio album 'Fenix' will see a March 25th, 2022 release via The Sign Records.

URFERD Releases New Single "Envig" - Debut Album 'Resan' Out April 15

Nordic ambient folk solo project URFERD has released the new single from their upcoming debut album. The new track, "Envig", is available now and accompanied by a lyric video. Speaking about the single, Urferd mastermind Daniel Beckman comments:

"The first half of the 'Resan' takes the listener across barren plains and through dark woods, but the end of the journey is now approaching. The only thing now standing in the way of resolution is battle. 'Envig' (meaning 'duel') depicts a deadly duel - a feud between two factions culminating in a fierce clash. Two combatants, two wills, and two swords locked in battle until only one stands victorious. Join the gathering of onlookers as the beating drums of war forebodes the coming bloodshed. Hear the cries and cheers as the bonfire smoke fills the night air."

'Resan' will see an April 15, 2022 release via Black Lodge Records.

A concept waiting years to emerge, URFERD officially saw the light of day in late 2020.

The first album, 'RESAN', will be released on Black Lodge Records in 2022, and is a musical odyssey in both a literal and figurative sense. The album takes the listener on a journey through dark and olden nordic forests; where strife and hardships follow in our steps, yet where the beauty and vastness of the solemn nordic landscape persists and permeates. High energy garage rock trio Märvel have released their new single "Great Man". The new track is the fifth and final single leading up to the band's ninth studio album 'Graces Came With Malice', which will see an April 22, 2022 release as part of Märvel's 20th anniversary. "Some people are born with a genuine talent and they could easily conquer the moon and the stars. But for some reason they allow their demons to take over and they ruin it all for themselves. Some kind of self-destructo-mode is put into high gear. This song is about trying to lend some courage to those people, some courage to make them reach out and ask for help. You gotta believe that there’s still hope even if things are looking pretty bad."

Märvel Bio:

Märvel was formed in 2002 when John Steen (The King), Ulrik Bostedt (Speedo), and Tony Samuelsson (The Vicar) spent a high school exchange year in Colorado, USA. Ditching classes, drinking beer, and playing rock n roll in the garage gave the world “Marvellous”, their first EP. The band got airtime on several college radio stations before they left the USA and returned to Sweden with lousy grades, but high spirits. Two other vinyl EP’s (“Heroine Tracks” & “Bedlam at the Embassy”) were released the following years through Swedish indie labels.

Between 2003 and 2011, the band started honing their skills and image by playing live and recording three albums. Constant touring and airplay during the period helped the band to build a very loyal fanbase in Europe.

With the release of their third full-length album “Warhawks of War”, Märvel went through some changes. The earlier superhero gimmick was abandoned in favor of new and more iconic personas, The King, The Vicar, and Speedo. A second live bass player, The Aviator, was also added to the lineup. The band fully stepped into the new characters by also adopting them live on stage. “Warhawks of War” was released in 2011 and marked a big step forward for the band in terms of sound and strong material. It also featured the guest stars Strings (Dundertåget, Hellacopters) and Dregen (Backyard Babies, Hellacopters, Michael Monroe).

In 2012, Speedo (Ulrik Bostedt) was replaced by Burgher (Ulrik Bostedt). Filled with youthful raw energy, and with a unique style, Burgher helped catapult the band even further while touring Germany, France, and Spain to promote the Warhawks album.

After touring with Dregen in 2013, the band returned to the studio to record “Hadal Zone Express”. The album was released 28th of March 2014 to a never-ending stream of praise. In the fall, the band recorded a mini-album, with Fred Estby, “The Hills Have Eyes”. The title track along with a cover of W.A.S.P’s L.O.V.E. Machine made a big fuzz and got frequent air time.

In 2017, the band partnered with The Sign Records, and the first release was the seventh album “at the Sunshine Factory”, the first Märvel album to be recorded fully by themselves in their own newly established studio, Solskensfabriken. The second release was a cheeky cover album, “Guilty Pleasures”, featuring songs from a wide spectrum of artists such as Dire Straits, Agnetha Fältskog, REO Speedwagon, and Monster Magnet.

It is now 2021, and with a year and a half of the pandemic, the band still has had the opportunity to spend time together. The outcome will be a new album to be released in the near future. As always, the songs are in focus, and the release sees Märvel back at the height of their creativity, blending all their eclectic influences into a melodic piercing piece of high-energy rock n roll!

Looking slightly into the future, 2022 marks the 20th anniversary for the band, and apart from a new album, this accomplishment will be acknowledged throughout the year with exclusive releases, gigs, and other surprises.

Swedish Rock Pioneers THE BOPPERS Release New Single "Callous Rain"

The story of The Boppers started out as a fairytale about some teenagers from Stockholm who were in the right place at the wrong time.

Forming the band in 1977 when punk rock exploded around the world, their take on 50’s doo-wop and rock n roll couldn’t be more out of style, but they refused to fit in and turned it into a success. Their debut album, 'Number One', which contained mostly covers of their 50’s favorites from the likes of Roy Orbison, Dion & Belmonts, etc. sold over 450,000 copies in Sweden!! There was no doubt about it, The Boppers were the next big thing!

Since then, they’ve become an institution in Swedish rock n roll history, with their albums selling worldwide. Always true to their roots, they’ve kept on digging where they stand.

This year, The Boppers are celebrating 45 years as a band with a brand new album...and a new record company! For the new album, the band teams up with Wild Kingdom / Sound Pollution. A triumphant return from CONJURER following their world-renowned 2018 debut Mire, Páthos is a band flexing their creative muscles, deepening their approach and thought, and expanding their sound.

Bassist Conor Marshall comments: "Excited to finally be able to share the album with everyone! I’m sure this is the same for every band trying to release an album during the pandemic but it feels like we’ve been holding on to it for so long, so it’s nice for it to not be my problem any more and to be able to actually talk about it!"

Opener "It Dwells" is the perfect introduction – earth-shatteringly heavy, unconventional, uniquely beautiful, and instantly recognizable as CONJURER. The track is centered on the contradictions of the emotion of ‘fear’ – that fear can be comfortable and constant, haunting and crushing. It builds to a point of breaking – the need to end fear battling against your will to go on. The repeated screams ‘I’ll have peace’ are an ambivalent declaration of defiance – give in, or fight, either way fear is gone.

Of the single, guitarist/vocalist Dan Nightingale states: "I think 'It Dwells' is a good introduction to the sound of the record, from the musical influences to the lyrics and how we’ve drawn from what’s been going on in our lives, it’s one of our most personal outings for sure. It’s nice to have been able to step up our game with the music videos for this album as well. Good album. Top track. Boss man."

Páthos is not an album for the half-hearted or faint-hearted. Elements of Sumac, Gojira, old MASTODON and OATHBREAKER, the new record is a multi-layered beast – sludge, death, doom, black metal and hardcore influences clash and collide throughout, all masterfully finished by Will Putney’s exquisite mix and master.

The fifty-minute runtime of Páthos is not without its moments of the sublime, with post-metal nods to CONJURER and PIJN’s acclaimed Curse These Metal Hands project throughout. That a band can be at once so triumphantly beautiful and gut-punchingly heavy is testament to CONJURER’s quality, and a surefire sign of their future longevity at the top of Britain’s heavy music scene.

Timothy Judson Taylor Releases New Single "The Fall Of Rome" via TLG/INgrooves

Timothy Judson Taylor has released a brand new single titled "The Fall of Rome" via TLG/INgrooves. This is the first single off of his full length album Crossing the Rubicon due out this summer!

"'When 'The Fall of Rome' was written in 2015 I could see the cracks in the foundation of our fundamental civil rights. At the time the 2nd amendment was under attack, and the obvious take away was that without the 2nd amendment, none of your rights are safe. If there is anything we should have learned in all of this it is that the government CANNOT keep you safe. Preserve the Bill of Rights," says Timothy Judson Taylor.

Timothy Judson Taylor is a musician and vocalist who began playing guitar at the age of 13. His mother kept a variety of modern music playing in the house. His early influences were the Beatles, the Folk Movement, Motown, The British Invasion, and others. At the age of 13, he saw Emerson, Lake and Palmer on Don Kirschner’s Rock Concert and it changed him forever.

Though the technical brilliance of this super group was obvious, what struck him was when Greg Lake sat down with his acoustic guitar, and sang "Lucky Man", "Still You Turn Me On", and "From The Beginning". It was then he realized THIS was what he was meant to do.

Timothy has been a lead vocalist and lead guitarist to an assortment of bands, as well as all-original lineups where he's written all his own material. Tim has amassed an enormous body of original work and always wanted to release it to the world…in the way his mind heard it.

Today, with Crossing The Rubicon, that dream is realized.

Post hardcore sludge band IMPURE WILHELMINA are now releasing a brand new live video for the track 'Jasmines' which is taken from the band's latest offering 'Antidote.' The video was recorded during one of their live shows at the L'usine venue in Geneva in October 2021. Unfortunately, IMPURE WILHELMINA were forced to cancel their upcoming tour dates with SHORES OF NULL due to event restrictions and lockdowns in Europe, but more shows will be announced soon! In the meantime, you can watch the new video and get a glimpse of what to expect from their live shows below.

For 25 years, IMPURE WILHELMINA has been creating a singular music on the borders of rock and metal. The Geneva quartet has never been afraid to reinvent itself and to push back the stylistic barriers, without ever losing its strong identity. Intensity, melody, power and melancholy are the key words that guide the band's discography, shaping record after record a subtle blend of metal, post-hardcore, new wave and indie rock sounds.

IMPURE WILHELMINA has experienced many line-up changes over the years around Michael Schindl, singer-guitarist, main composer and lyricist. Founded in 1996, the group quickly built a reputation in the local, then Swiss and European independent scenes. 

IMPURE WILHELMINA has regularly collaborated with sound engineers and producers Serge Morattel (I Can't Believe I Was Born In July - 2001, L'Amour, La Mort, L'Enfance Perdue - 2004, Prayers And Arsons - 2008) and Raphaël Bovey (Black Honey - 2014, Radiation - 2017). These five albums illustrate the constant musical evolution of the band, which from a very dark and metal base gradually incorporates more rock elements. The clear vocals occupy an increasingly important place in the compositions, reinforcing the intensity and melodic depth.

In 2015, thanks to the great response to Black Honey, IMPURE WILHELMINA  signed with the reference metal label Season of Mist, which published ‘Radiation’ two years later in 2017. Skilfully navigating between melodies and dissonances, always at the service of raw emotion, this sixth album was unanimously acclaimed by the press and the public, opening the doors to wider recognition.

After intensely touring all over Europe to promote ‘Radiation’, the band received great reward by being one of the four recipients of the 2019 grants for contemporary music awarded by the City of Geneva. This support has allowed Impure Wilhelmina to approach their new album with confidence and the will to develop their sound and get out of their comfort zone. The band put a lot of efforts in the elaboration and production of its new songs, notably by calling on Yvan Bing, producer and sound engineer, to accompany the four musicians throughout the creation process of the album. This successful collaboration began in the summer of 2019 and continued for over a year, giving rise to IMPURE WILHELMINA's seventh album, ‘Antidote’.

In the context of the pandemic that marked part of the recording of ‘Antidote’ and its long completion, this title also resonates in a very particular way. Welcome to this journey into uncharted musical lands.

After his cinematic “Knowing You” video, which juxtaposed the bitter cold of a Northeastern fishing boat with the tropical warmth of love on a sailboat, Kenny Chesney returns with an equally breathtaking clip that celebrates the glory of the natural world, a woman’s spirit of adventure and trusting one’s own instincts to anchor the panoramic “Everyone She Knows,” the follow-up to the No. 1 country waltz that was nominated for Song of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards.

Working with longtime creative collaborator Shaun Silva of Tacklebox Films, the pair crafted a mini-movie that follows a single woman through redwood forests, along coastal highways, through the Grand Canyon, mountain expanses and across the desert as she chases beauty and possibly her own heart. Galaxies from the traditional girl-meets-boy videos that traditionally accompany songs like this, Chesney sought to create a visual that reflected how powerful women in their own space can be.

“I have been surrounded by strong women who lead these lives on their own terms my whole life,” Chesney says of the clip’s portrayal. “Nothing is more powerful or interesting than a woman who has a sense of her destiny and is willing to go chase it. It’s not always conventional, but that’s what makes their passion so much stronger. Whether it’s my island friends, musicians like Grace Potter, several women on my team; they have a way of embracing life that’s unlike anyone else – and I think that’s awesome.”

Written by Shane McAnally, Ross Copperman and Josh Osborne, “Everyone She Knows” looks at a young woman old enough to recognize the fairy princess promises don’t mean settling, but instead making your own way. With chiming acoustic guitars, a chorus that spins the melody around and a notion that there’s more to life than getting married, it continues Chesney’s litany of independent women who aren’t afraid of love, but not at the price of their dreams.

“When Shaun and I started talking about who this woman should be,” Chesney continues, “we wanted to show her on the road, in the world, against a backdrop of the path not taken. Whether it’s the woman FaceTiming friends, sitting on top of her van or by the fire, you get that sense of not just how big the world is, but how great her spirit is. To me, those free spirits should be empowered to chase their dreams and show us what the rest of us miss.”

In a van called “Storyteller,” our heroine could be an adventurer, scientist, blogger, teacher or researcher measuring the vastness of the wild. Or she could be one more person escaping from the reality of expectation, seeking something more beyond the city limits. Either way, the mini-film shows a serenity and embrace of the soul that is hard for most people to come by.

Palisades Drop New Single + Music Video "Better" via Rise Records and Announce Forthcoming Album 'Reaching Hypercri

New Jersey rock powerhouse Palisades has today released their latest single and music video "Better" (via Rise Records). Not only that, but the band has also announced their forthcoming album 'Reaching Hypercritical' (out on Friday, July 22), their latest LP since 2018's 'Erase The Pain'. "Better" speaks to themes of mental health, including frontman Brandon Elgar's experiences with agoraphobia, chronic anxiety, depression, and dissociative disorders. Speaking on today's release, Brandon shares:

"What I want people to get out of this song is, I want them to feel safe listening to it... especially if you suffer from these things. At the end of the day, it's all that I want to feel, is better. And I think that's why that became such a stamp in this song because I think that's what everybody wants to feel... Awareness is important, being kind to people is important. So I hope you get satisfaction out of this song like it has done for me."

Often lost in the past two years of the coronavirus pandemic aware of the nuances that ‘normal’ life brings. Trials, traumas, loves, and losses were all still present, even if ignored.

This is something that New Jersey rock outfit Palisades are all too familiar with, the band – vocalist/bassist Brandon Elgar, guitarists Xavier Adames and Matthew Marshall, and drummer Aaron Rosa – having been forced to contend with everything from line-up changes to the death of loved ones, all the while trying to record a new album amidst the most uncertain period the music industry has ever faced.

Their efforts and struggles have not been in vain. Palisades’ superb new album, Reaching Hypercritical, is due for release on Friday, July 2022 via their long-time home Rise Records. The band – whose worldwide streams now approaching 300 million – broke the Billboard 200 with their last LP, 2018’s Erase the Pain, while also scoring the #1 Independent, Top New Artist and Alternative New Artist album. With their strongest and most ambitious record yet now ready for the world, Palisades look set to further build upon their past efforts and appearances at festivals including Louder Than Life, Reading and Leeds, Download and Rock am Ring by reinforcing their status as one of rock’s most necessarily innovative and purposeful artists.

“It’s a been a pretty drastic progression musically,” drummer Aaron Rosa notes of Reaching Hypercritical. “This album really captures how the band has matured while being brutally honest with ourselves about all the tough moments that were going through our heads while making the record. Reaching Hypercritical is a true demonstration of how the past few years have changed us as people, as a band and what Palisades’ music stands for.”

Some of that change derives from the band’s recent line-up shift, which saw frontman Lou Miceli exit and vocalist/bassist Brandon Elgar step up on sole vocals. The move has allowed Palisades to hone in on their new frontman's passion, swagger, and raw talent, whose cathartic presence is the perfect muse for their emotive songs.

“The sheer talent and unique style Brandon brings to being a frontman really elevates our music,” guitarist Matthew Marshallcomments. “His melodies, lyrics and his flair makes all of us continue to push ourselves and that was ideal for what we wanted to achieve with Reaching Hypercritical. A new beginning for Palisades.”

While the atmosphere within the band is currently one of excitement and promise, the rocky path Palisades has had to traverse in order to create Reaching Hypercritical is reflected in the solemn, introspective, and often very dark outlook of the music. Mental illness and divorce are two heavy topics that rear their head on the record, while Aaron took the opportunity on Reaching Hypercritical to open up about the death of his father, who passed away during the writing of Palisades’ new LP.

“In terms of both our mental health and our career, it very much felt like we were reaching a hypercritical point,” he says of the band’s recent experiences. “You have all of the uncertainty that was brought on by a pandemic while life continues to do what it does. My father was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer and died two months later. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with, and in the middle of that, we were still trying to write a record. That moment in my life and some of the traumatic experiences of the other guys in the band really shaped this record. Ultimately, it altered the entire tone of the record and truly what the songs meant.”

From the raw emotion of “Fray” – which features a heart-breaking voice message from Aaron’s father – to the anthemic modern rock punch of the album’s first single “Better,” Reaching Hypercritical is doused in passion, intensity, and ambition. It’s the kind of record whose songs belong on the biggest platforms, as massive choruses collide with the kind of lyrical honesty and intelligence that will connect with anyone who’s experienced loss and pain.

From the depths of despair, Palisades have not only emerged with Reaching Hypercritical, but they have also done so triumphantly. For Brandon, Xavier, Matthew, and Aaron, it’s now about sharing that victory with others who need dragging out of the mire.

“I just want to be able to show people that no matter how deep of a hole you're in that there’s always a way to crawl out,” Brandon says. “With everything we went through, we didn’t know what was going to happen or if this band would even continue for us, but we stuck together and overcame these obstacles together. The goal of Reaching Hypercritical, more than anything, is to show people that they can do that too.”
