It’s a Sabotage! Rising Punk/Metal Unit THE HELLFREAKS Unleash Beastie Boys Cover “Sabotage” + Music Video

After recently signing with Napalm Records and shaking things up with new single, “Old Tomorrow”, Hungarian outfit THE HELLFREAKS are at it again with their blazing cover of massive classic “Sabotage” by New York hip hop legends Beastie Boys! Showcasing more of what can be expected from their stellar discography now boasting millions of streams, “Sabotage” doubles down on the catchy, trademark, high-octane alt-metal/groove side of the band’s sound.

Frontwoman Shakey Sue’s raspy punk rock vocals and angsty attitude shine bright atop crisp, modern production - bass and drums provide a tight and thick foundation, while guitars go crazy with pitched, Morello-inspired solos, before leading into a kickass breakdown - guaranteed to get the mosh pits crazy! After making a name for themselves internationally by touring in Europe and the USA, “Sabotage" is a merciless demonstration of what Budapest-based THE HELLFREAKS have in store on their upcoming full-length album - ready to take over the world!

THE HELLFREAKS on “Sabotage”:

“Everyone who knows our history might not be surprised by the unpredictable steps of THE HELLFREAKS. We love to challenge ourselves and see this mindset as the oil for our engine, that is why we decided to do something we never did before - to cover a song that represents a legendary piece of rock music history.

The four members of THE HELLFREAKS are from different musical corners, so it wasn't an easy task to find the song that feels right to all of us, but when the idea of Beastie Boys “Sabotage” popped up in the air, we were all immediately on board! We admire the band, but at the same, we saw how we could spice the song with some HELLFREAKS spirit to turn it somehow to our own. That being said we decided to record the instrumental part not instrument by instrument, part by part as it’s usual, but recorded it all together, live, to keep the essence of Beastie Boys in our own version too. On the top we wanted to set a sign of our roots visually as well. The New York based Beastie Boys came straight from the undergound and had a massive influence on rock music till these days. To respect that, we recorded the video in the heart of our hometown, Budapest, over the rooftops of our city on the Gellért Hill, which is also the home of Hungary's Liberty Statue.

We loved working on this very much and hope that you’ll enjoy our version!”

Stay tuned for what THE HELLFREAKS have planned for 2022!

American Hard Rock band Artifas was formed in 2011 in Jackson, TN by lead guitarist Cody Criswell and lead vocalist Scottie Somerville. In the months following, the two founders of the group would immediately recruit an assortment of hometown musicians and begin looking to record their debut EP. After having a long and ugly encounter that resulted in the theft of all the bands funds and receiving no album in return, the original incarnation of the group would spend 2012-2013 doing several independent tours and writing music. After debuting with their EP Enemy Inside in 2013 and doing numerous regional/national tours in support of it, the band replaced former members with guitarist Mikey Miller, bassist Anthony Mattox, and drummer Jared Wainscott.

With almost two years of touring with the new lineup under their belts, Artifas inked themselves a record deal and hit the studio to make their first full length album. The 2015 release of the title track, “Inhuman,” would bring the band some commercial success, reaching # 32 on Billboard’s Active Rock chart and sending the band on the road in support of their new album. The band landed tours with established artists like Theory of a DeadmanShamans HarvestPop EvilSaint AsoniaAranda, and others. The follow up single from that record, “Blood 4 Blood”, would later get picked up by the World Series of Fighting and subsequently land a feature in theUFC movie “Fight Valley”. The band parted ways with their record label in 2016, and remained on tour throughout the US for most of the following year, also traveling internationally for the first time with the likes of Papa RoachHoobastankP.O.D.,Trapt, and Sick Puppies to play for our American Troops.

Multiple tour cycles later, Artifas found themselves back in the studio making new music. The band worked with multiple writers and producers throughout the entirety of 2018, but would ultimately only find themselves frustrated with the recordings that resulted. After a soul search within the group, Artifas elected to embrace their own vision and write/produce their next album independently, free from the creative overreach of outside influence.

After two years of writing, recording, and mixing, Artifas has completed the new album, and plans to unleash it upon the world. With catchy guitar riffs, dizzying drums, and soaring melodies, Reflections will send you on an emotional journey, exploring the band’s semi-prog, radio rock sound while diving deeper into the human complex with lyrics centered around self awareness and the bands own struggles with mental health. The goal for the creation of this album was to make a record that met the band’s expectations and you can rest assured they held nothing back. Mixed and Mastered by Forrester Savell (Twelve Foot Ninja, Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus)Reflections promises to wow you with musical prowess, all the while delivering Artifas’ important message on unity, inspiration, and the sempiternal battle between dark and light.

Lee McKinney (Born of Osiris) Releases New Solo Album 'In The Light Of Knowledge' via Sumerian Records

Incendiary guitarist Lee McKinney (Born of Osiris) has released his latest solo album 'In The Light Of Knowledge' today via Sumerian Records. Prior to today's release, Lee shared playthroughs for his songs "Stormrage" and"Crystal Song", which together have totaled over 119,000 views on YouTube so far. Speaking on today's release, Leecommented:

"I couldn't be more proud of In The Light of Knowledge. I've always described this album as being as close to "inside an artist's mind" as you can get. That's not just because in a way each of these songs is somewhat of a diary entry for me emotionally, but it's also because I wrote every instrument, produced, edited, engineered, mixed, and mastered it on my own. What you hear is exactly what I heard and felt when creating it in my studio - unchanged by anything or anyone. On that note, thank you to Adrián Terrazas-González for his saxophone contributions, and thank you to Misstiq for her piano contribution to Crystal Song.

This album made me feel like I fine-tuned the vision of what I wanted my solo music to be. I had a clear goal and vision. The vision was to make you FEEL something. If I had to describe the album in one word, it would be emotion. This album (like Infinite Mind) is not intended to be a shred fest. Of course, it will happen naturally with my play style and tendencies, but it is NEVER a goal of my solo records. There will always be a new faster guitar player coming up in the world. The "race" doesn't appeal to me anymore. I've been playing guitar for 22 years... at this point, evoking emotion is more important to me than recycling shred techniques. I think from the beginning of my career, melody, and emotion have been what I've excelled at. These solo albums are me exploring that deeper.

I hope you all enjoy it. Thank you for the support."

Loverboy Returns in 2022 with New Single, “Release” and tour with REO Speedwagon and Styx

“Like millions of others around the globe, we’re ready to rock again,” says Loverboy guitarist/co-founding member Paul Dean about their return to recording and the concert stage in 2022.

The band’s new single, “Release,” slated for release in mid-January on all digital streaming platforms, is a full-throttle rocker Paul had been working on, at first intended for an unnamed metal band which approached him as a songwriter/producer to work with them. But when that didn’t pan out, Dean decided to reach out to the other members of Loverboy to gauge their interest in recording it as their next single, which became “Release."

“It started out as a frustrated call to action, after months of lock down, and morphed into a metal anthem about the loyalty and commitment of that audience,” said Dean, with lyrics inspired by Sam Dunn’s 2005 documentary Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey. They could well apply to Loverboy itself, going strong more than four decades after forming in Calgary in 1979.

“The communal aspect of heavy rock is almost like a religion,” says Paul. “I’ve always been a big metal fan; My son and I have seen many of those bands in concert.”

Paul started with no music, just the phrase, “I need a release,” and eventually finished writing it, before soliciting the other members of Loverboy, starting with lead singer Mike Reno, who contributed vocals and some evocative lyrics like “It’s a frontal attack/It’s a matter of fact.”And when he continues, “Thinkin’ bout me and you/Couldn’t stop if we wanted to/It’s a bond that can’t be broken/Never broken,” Reno could be talking about the long-term relationships within the band or with their own steadfast fans. Paul recorded Mike’s vocals in a single afternoon at Reno’s Vancouver home studio. “Mike always provides that great energy,” says Paul.

Doug Johnson then added his trademarked keyboard riffs. "He’s such an amazing player and an essential part of the band,” acknowledged Dean. Then, drummer Matt Frenette and bassist Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve, who joined the band in 2001 when original member Scott Smith drowned in a boating accident, provided the always-solid foundation, making “Release” a potent Loverboy anthem in the style of “Working for the Weekend,” “Hot Girls in Love,” Lovin’ Every Minute of It,” and "Turn Me Loose.”

Working remotely, Frenette sent Dean seven different possible drum “takes” for the track. “That was amazing,” said Paul. “It totally blew me away. And Matt was very helpful in putting the video together as well, he had some great ideas."

Dean adds, “Looks like we’re finally going to get that “Release” this January, when we play together live for the first time in nearly 2 years!”

Loverboy’s upcoming tour dates include January 23 with Rick Springfield at the Ilani Cowlitz Ballroom in Ridgefield, WA and headlining shows March 3rd and 4th in Windsor and Sarnia, ON. Loverboy will then join fellow rockers Styx and REO Speedwagon for the Live Nation promoted “Live & UnZoomed” tour that kicks off May 31, 2022, in Grand Rapids, MI at the Van Andel Arena.

Loverboy has four multi-platinum albums, including the four-million-selling Get Lucky, and a trio of double-platinum releases in their self-titled 1980 debut, 1983’s Keep It Up and 1985’s "Lovin’ Every Minute of It." Their string of hits includes, in addition to the arena-rock anthem “Working for the Weekend,” such staples as “Lovin’ Every Minute of It,” “This Could Be the Night,” “Hot Girls in Love,”“Heaven in Your Eyes,” “Turn Me Loose,” “When It’s Over," “Heaven In Your Eyes,” and “Queen of the Broken Hearts.”

LOCKJAW Release Official Music Video for "Living in My Head"

Fort Worth, TX based, heavy rock / metal band LOCKJAWis back with the official music video for their newest single, "Living in My Head". Produced by Chris Collier (Korn, KMX) and the video directed by Jeremy Peterson, "Living in My Head" premiered on popular, taste-making YouTube channel Space Untravel!

"'Living in My Head' was a song we felt had to be released early on this album because it really hits home with what the world is going through now. We felt we could connect with fans, and let them know, we are with you. We are all struggling together. We feel the pressure of this world, with the pandemic and uncertainty, it really causes stress, anxiety, mental health issues all around. I don’t think anyone is immune to it. We are really proud of the final product and are glad to send our brand of heavy music into the world. We hope everyone enjoys it as much as we do!" - LOCKJAW

Lockjaw is a band based in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX. The group recently came out with a brand new release announcement for their upcoming single: Silence The Fear. This is going to be the first of many tracks, which the group is planning on releasing throughout the year. This particular song feels like a compelling new chapter for the band, highlighting its commitment to creating music that blurs the lines between a wide range of influences. From the depth and energy of alternative rock down the impactful edge of heavy metal, there are no rules. The group has a rather long history, fueled by the friendship of the band members, who got together to form this band while in high school in the late 90s. The music scene was quite different back then, but just like today, Lockjaw was never interested in chasing trends. These talented musicians had the vision to make their own music and truly give it their all. Lockjaw started making music in 1998, and it didn’t take long for the group to be able to record and release a handful of EPs throughout the local scene. The band’s music earned a solid reputation, and Lockjaw soon grew to the ranks of excellent local bands, on stage and in the studio.

The group is on the verge of making their return with some brand new music, as they are gearing up to release some exciting new material. Lockjaw’s most recent studio single is titled "Silence The Fear," and it is going to be available on August 6th, 2021. On the occasion of this and other recordings, The band hit the studio with famed producer Chris Collier, already well-known for his work with seminal bands such as Korn, as well as Lynch MobProng, and KMX, only to mention a few. Without spoiling anything, let’s just say that these songs depict the band at its best. Instead of releasing a whole record at once, Lockjaw is set to be releasing a handful of singles throughout the years, allowing their releases to seamlessly spread over time and giving the audience a nice constant stream of content. The band’s upcoming music is ultimately a perfect example of the band’s attitude and charismatic approach to songwriting and performance, going for an immediate and earthy sound that favors the human connection between the musicians, rather than hiding their work under an excessive layer of studio trickery. If you are a fan of artists such asMetallicaLamb Of GodAmon AmarthOpethMachineHead, andSlipknot, this one is definitely going to be right up your alley. Production-wise, the band’s new music is just as exciting and crisp as you might expect from such high standards of recording and production. For instance, "Silence The Fear’s" mix is balanced and very detail-oriented, making for a lively, edgy, and stark sonic approach. In other words, there are many subtle nuances in this release, which really add to the richness of the track when summed up together. At first glance, you’ll notice the roaring walls of guitar and the energetic rhythm section, but if you dive deeper, there is a lot more to uncover. The dynamic spectrum of the song is also very balanced, with a tight yet deep low end that really growls, holding it all together while adding some aggressive edge to the sound.

Find out more about Lockjaw, and do not miss out on the band’s upcoming music, which is going to be available throughout the web’s premier digital streaming platforms.

Vampires Everywhere Release New Single + Music Video "Sudden Death"

Las Vegas-based horror rockers Vampires Everywhere have today released their latest single and music video for their new track "Sudden Death". Speaking on today's release, frontman Michael Vampire shares:

“I am beyond excited to continue my 12-year journey with Vampires Everywhere into 2022. Bringing back Vampires has inspired me and given me a fresh outlook on my music career. That being said I’m stoked to release our next single “Sudden Death”. I wanted to tackle my love for the occult and my relationship demons. This song is a direct hybrid of those elements. The music video was so fun to shoot this time. Everything was perfectly planned out and storyboarded. It’s about a girl that is trapped in her own head, toying with the idea of taking her own life. She’s been turned into a monster, a vampire by me. She’s watching me from this creepy TV HQ-type space debating her next move. She ultimately decides to destroy me to get revenge to appease her own demons. I’m excited for people to see and hear the new 2022 Vampires Chapter. I am grateful we will be hitting the road in February to play “Sudden Death” live as I’m stoked to see how it translates on a stage."

Fans will have the opportunity to see Vampires Everywhere on the road this spring on the From Hell With Love Tour along with Young Medicine, City Of The Weak, and Junexa. Watch the music video for "Sudden Death" below, and click here for ticket information for the From Hell With Love Tour.

Vampires Everywhere were conceptualized in early 2010 by Michael Orlando later known as Michael Vampire. The band started its journey in Hollywood, CA-based on the idea of bringing a fresh feel to an already saturated metalcore market. Michael has been obsessed with the 1987 cult classic film "The Lost Boys" since age 13 and wanted to start a band around his love for the movie and his passion for rock music. The band quickly gained notoriety in 2010 with their debut music video for "Immortal Love" which hit half a million views and landed on the iconic MTV Headbangers Ball. A few months later VE was signed to Century Media Records and toured with Black Veil Brides on the Hot Topic Tour around the United States. The band also landed an opening spot for X Japan's first North American run playing for over 5,000 people a night and to this day is the only band to open for X Japan in the US. After an amazing run on the 2012 Warped Tour, the band was asked by Kevin Lyman to headline Rob Zombie's Great Adventure in Pomona, CA. Vampires Everywhere have since toured with the likes of Motionless In White, AIDEN, Alesana, Orgy, Filter, Falling In Reverse, and countless others. ABOUT SHADOW OF INTENT

SHADOW OF INTENT is an American metal band based in New England originally formed by Ben Duerr and Chris Wisemanin 2014. The band continues to release their music independently including their first album Primordial (2016), second albumReclaimer (2017) and very recently their latest work Melancholy (2019).

The band name and lyrics were originally derived from lore from the Halo franchise and since then the band’s subject matter has become more dark and personal, while maintaining an element of fantasy and wonder. The band’s music is heavily built off of various different genres of metal including death metal, black metal, symphonic metal, progressive metal, and metalcore.SHADOW OF INTENT played their first live show at the end of 2017, which then lead to them embarking on several US tours with bands such as The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Carnifex, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Despised Icon, and more.

2021 has brought about a new era of the band bringing singles, "Where Millions Have Come To Die", “Intensified Genocide”, “From Ruin… We Rise” and a cover of Lamb of God’s “Laid to Rest”, foreshadowing the 2022 'Elegy' album release. The band further evolves their subject matter, touching on the atrocities of mankind throughout history brought about by warmongering, hatred, and greed. The signature SHADOW OF INTENT sound continues to evolve with a larger-than-life cinematic soundscape accompanying each track, bringing a sonic experience hitherto unheard.

MESSA Release New Single "Dark Horse" - New Album 'Close' Out March 11 via Svart Records

Italian Doom Metal quartet MESSA are excited to release their new album, 'Close', onMarch 11th, 2022 with their new label home in Svart Records. In the build-up to the release of their upcoming full-length, the band has dropped a new single titled "Dark Horse". Speaking about the story behind the writing and recording of the track, the band comments:

“'Dark Horse' was the last song we wrote, and it was completed literally just one week before we entered the studio. It’s the most instinctual and visceral song on the album. Its sound is reminiscent of 80’s dark/post-punk vibes like no other song in this record." Going on to share the narrative themes of the song, the group shares, "This song describes a precise moment of anxiety which is now trapped in the sands of time forevermore."

Check out the new single from Messa, "Dark Horse", below. The band's new album,'Close', is out March 11th, 2022.

About Messa's new album, 'Close'

“Close” draws us further into Messa’s spellbinding textures and immersive dynamics. Described as “Stevie Nicks fronting Black Sabbath,” singer Sara’s colossal voice omnipotently carries the listener on an emotional rollercoaster ride where the sonic cauldron of Iommi guitars gives way to Arabian Oudh and progressive solos in a masterful style-clash that well befits Messa’s incendiary reputation.

The hushed Fender Rhodes piano intro on opener “Suspended,” picks up where Messa left off on their previous album “Feast For Water” but then collapses gloriously into Jazz guitar and widescreen impassioned crushing riffs, lighting our way for the odyssey ahead. The scene is set magnificently for the journey that “Close” expertly takes the listener on, with Messa’s obvious care and passion for the album as a pilgrimage of sonic experience. Heavyweight tracks like “If You Want Her To Be Taken” or “0=2” are modern Doom Rock classics that expertly upgrade and leave the genre reeling in their wake. “Pilgrim” and “Orphalese” are woven with tapestries of Mediterranean sounds where Oudh and eastern chord phrasings expand Messa’s cinematic palette with a panache that is all their own. Atmospheric and grandiose belters like “Rubedo” and “Dark Horse” build into an almost limitless climax of discord and harmony where blast beats and saxophones descend into a thrilling cacophony that’s a masterclass in artful cutting edge Doom.

Referencing bands like Dead Can Dance, Swans, and Om, Messa have created an album where song, experience, and atmosphere are focused into a crystalline modus where high art flawlessly embraces good old-fashioned riff-worship. Transcending the occult and noir-tinted atmospheres of their past works, “Close” confidently weaves Messa’s multifarious influences into a singular breath-taking sound that leaves the listener enthralled. Perfection or something extremely close, Messa’s “Close” is not just a Metal record, but it’s definitely one of the best things to break out of the confines of Metal in a long time.

Alberto – Guitar

Mr. Bungle's Trevor Dunn and Jarvis Earnshaw (aka TRAVIS DUO) release 'Hypnagogia' album and a string of trippy videos

"If there is an ‘Avant’ class amongst avant-garde musicians, surely Jarvis Earnshaw and Trevor Dunn must sit among them... a portal for dreamery, a trigger for the upper chakras - taking the listener on an introspective and peaceful trip" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Fluid soundscapes that constantly straddle the line between the abrasive and the spiritual... a fine blend of the two styles" ~ Record Crates United

"Dreamlike compositions and an eclectic range of instrumentation including sitars, xylophones and flutes... the border between reality and the abstract dream world is set to be challenged" ~ Mxdwn

"Imagine a more abstract take on Shakti with John McLaughlin, Mahavishnu Orchestra or Ry Cooder with Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, bring in and give free reign to several orchestra members, slow it all down and add a more psychedelic avant-garde jazz element to it. You would end up with Jarvis Earnshaw and Trevor Dunn's TRAVIS DUO" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"You could call this avant-garde ethnic-space jazz or just deem this an interesting creation of a contemplative jazz-inspired auditory space. Each artist brings their own magic into the fold, lending to new layers in this unique sonic tapestry" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

Brooklyn-based underground music veterans Jarvis Earnshaw and Trevor Dunnhave released 'Hypnagogia', their first collaborative album as the TRAVIS DUO. Together these well achieved artists mesh and warp jazz into a novel and unique experimental sitar-laden creature.

Multi-instrumentalist Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, Fantômas, John Zorn, The Melvins, Diatom Ribbons, Trio Convulsant, Endangered Blood) plays contrabass and percussion, while Jarvis Earnshaw (SYRINX-Series, Question, Harbinger, the Luke Stewart and Jarvis Earnshaw Quartet) contributes sitar, tape loops and vocals.

Recorded and mixed by legendary producer Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Herbie Hancock, Afrika Bambaataa, DNA, White Zombie, Ginger Baker, John Zorn) at his BC Studio in Gowanus, Brooklyn, this album was mastered by Josh Bonati(William S. Burroughs, Zola Jesus, Beaks>, Mort Garson 'Plantasia', Slowdive, Jenny Hval).
Aptly titled 'Hypnagogia' (\.hip-næ-‘gä-jia. of or pertaining to the period of the transitional state between waking life and dreams: hypnagogic hallucinations), this collection of improvisations was based on a set of line drawings and diagrams drawn during lucid dreams. The duo are also offering a series of audio-visual delights in support of this release, including for track 'Hitherto', 'FAQ', 'Fair Weather Friend', and the latest video for 'Uchouten / Sab Kuch Milega'.

'Hypnagogia' is bold and honest, weaving a tapestry of colours and pushing abstractions. They present an impressive hybrid of styles, whilst gently nestling on their pop roots. The kaleidoscopic overtones of the sitar dance elegantly with the charismatic and eloquent contrabass. This is psychedelic ethnic-flavoured jazz with a mean right hook.

This album features appearances by Daniel Carter (Yoko Ono, Sonic Youth, Jaco Pastorius, Yo La Tengo, William Parker, Cecil Taylor, Sun Ra), saxophonistDevin Brahja Waldman (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Thurston Moore),Sean McCaul (Philip Glass Ensemble 'Naqoyqatsi'), and drummer Niko Wood {Shake The Baby Til The Love Comes Out}.

"This album is a meeting of minds that cross generations, timelines and genres, as if ancestral cheerleaders were egging us on. The personnel age gap on this record spans 50 years, the youngest being in his 20s to the oldest in his 70s. Every member is a highly distinguished unique musician in their own right and at the top of their field, creating gorgeous music in every genre, pulling inspiration from our vast experiences of life - from Abstract Noise, Punk, Jazz, Rock, Hiphop to Chamber music and beyond. This has magically shaped this album, which extends beyond genre and is pure expression at its finest above and beyond boundaries," saysJarvis Earnshaw.

"I grew up in backwoods bumblef*ck countryside Japan and would have never imagined that I would be playing music with my hero Trevor Dunn. I still remember the first time I heard his band Mr. Bungle smash open my head with the bottlecracking 'Travolta'. 13-year old me was obsessed with the band, which has really shaped the person I am today. Martin Bisi, the humble legend, has produced most of the music I listened to growing up, which can probably be said by a lot of people. In many ways, this is a dream-come-true album and I still keep pinching myself or perhaps this is all just a lucid dream."

London-born, Jarvis Earnshaw spent most of his childhood in Japan, releasing his debut album at 15. Since graduating Bunka Gakuin Art School in Tokyo, he studied sitar in India, and is a graduate of Pratt Institute in New York. Both as a musician and visual artist, his work is recognized worldwide, having solo exhibitions, residencies and performances throughout the world, including Fuji Rock Festival, Europe, India and across America to New York's own Lincoln Center.

The 'Hypnagogia' album is out now, available as a limited edition of 500 albums on dark blue vinyl. The seven core tracks come with bonus track 'Lolloping Theta Broom Horse' and a16-page full-colour booklet. It can be pre-ordered directly from Earnshaw's own website or via Bandcamp.

Manchester’s Inca Babies reflects a hopeless state of geographic limbo on 'I'm Grounded'. 'Swamp Street Soul', their first LP in 7 years, is out now

"Their almost serpentine invention and dark musical incitements have continued to inspire and invigorate... one of the leading lights and template setting protagonists of British rock ‘n’ roll" ~ Ringmaster Review

"Coming in like a hurricane and tastefully blending rock, grunge, punk and blues, the Incas serve up unhinged sophistication and moody textures. Packing a big punch, their high octane sound is loaded with adrenaline and spunk" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Thirty years down the line the Inca Babies' recordings are not just a collection of outstanding songs from independent music's golden age... they remain pretty much a life statement; a declaration of intent" ~ Isolation Records

"Beautifully wrought... grows on you each time you listen to it. The production integrity is particularly notable and the twangy baseline sits in your brain well after listening" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"All the drive and spunk of an adrenaline-filled 30-something viper rocker" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"A distinctive presence around Manchester and beyond... t’s powerful and it’s punk. It’s great to see a forgotten band back on their own terms and thriving" ~ The Spill Magazine

Post-punk swamp-goth rockers Inca Babies present 'I'm Grounded', the latest single from their eighth studio album ‘Swamp Street Soul’.

Inca Babies is Harry Stafford (guitar, keys, vocals), bassist Vince Hunt (A Witness, Blue Orchids) and Rob Haynes (The Membranes, Goldblade) on drums and percussion. This collection of new tunes, drawn from their fantastic imagination, offers a hefty dose of the gritty sound that the Manchester-based deathrock / postpunk outfit have become known for over the decades since forming in 1983.

"This deal with the last few years as a reflection of geographical inactivity for someone who gets around and travels a lot the time of being; ‘square wheeled on the deck’, was particularly arduous. But it’s not just a 'lockdown' song, it was actually written before all the pandemic’s constraints kicked in. It began as a muse on being in a particularly hopeless state of limbo – which of course exacerbated itself once we were stuck at home watching the clock and trying to be creative," says Harry Stafford.

"‘I’m Grounded, I’m square wheeled on the deck, I’m grounded, my zeppelin’s a wreck’... The video spans the time at home as the seasons pass and our situation seems unlikely to improve… but appears to offer an understanding of who we are once we are placed outside of the impediments of work and have to face the habitual skirmish for survival as the calendar changes and the pages fall off."

Produced by Simon 'Ding' Archer (The Fall, PJ Harvey) at 6Db Studios, the clarity and fullness of sound on this 11-track offering surpasses that of any previous Inca release.

This is the first album in seven years, when the final release of their Death Blues Trilogy 'The Stereo Plan' was released in 2014, following 'Death Message Blues'(2010) and 'Deep Dark Blue' (2012).

‘Swamp Street Soul’ takes us across a tightly euphoric path of differing moods and new arenas of guitar songwriting. This LP continues the band's explosive exploration of goth-punk and death-rock and trash blues with epic cautionary ballads. Frontman Harry Stafford has written a fulsome collection of tall tales of madness, fearfully larger-than-life characters and extravagant yarns, backed by a no-nonsense rhythm section locked into a pounding backbeat.

Ahead of the album, the band also released the high octane overdrive single'Crawling Garage Gasoline' (along with b-side 'Grunt Cadillac Hotel' and lead track 'Walk In The Park' with a strutting blues beat, infectious guitar lick and bluesy post-punk musings.

A vibrant part of Britain's early postpunk / death rock scene, Inca Babies' story began in 1983 in the now-legendary deck-access flats of Hulme (Manchester), which were intended as ‘cities in the sky’ for young executives but quickly became cockroach-infested slums mostly inhabited by students, artists, and drug addicts. True to DIY ethos, they self-released their debut single 'Interior' in 1984.

With a further six singles and four albums over five years, all of which entered the UK Indie Charts, they also recorded four sessions for BBC's John Peel show in 1984-1988 before calling it quits. Since reforming in 2007, they've released three albums and toured extensively around Europe, including Russia, as well as North America and India. Renewed interest in the Incas was propelled by Cherry Red Records 'Best Of’ compilation release ‘Inca Babies 1983-87: Plutonium’.

The ‘Swamp Street Soul’ album is out now, available digitally everywhere, includingSpotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp, where it can be ordered directly from the band. It can also be obtained via the Louder Than War shop.

About Chase Wright:
Chase Wright is doing more than make his childhood dreams come true: he’s introducing himself as a bold new Nashville artist with a freewheeling approach to genre, firm footing in relatable storytelling and soft spot for big choruses. Respect for country music’s way around a story without feeling beholden to it defines the Indiana native’s energetic songs, which rely on electric loops and pop-rock chords alongside more traditional sounds made from steel strings and wood. It’s a confident blend that belies the fact that 25-year-old Chase first picked up a guitar as a freshman track star at DePauw University. After graduating with a degree in economics, Chase packed his bags for Nashville, where he has since earned a publishing deal with Toby & Molly Music and signed with Morris Higham for management. Wright’s debut album Intertwined is available now.

Copenhagen Death Doom Force KONVENT Announces New Album + Shares Colossal First Single "Grains"!

Call Down The Sun out March 11, 2022 via Napalm Records

Pre-Order HERE!

After their debut full-length album, Puritan Masochism, took the entire doom and heavy metal scene by storm upon its release two years ago, March 11, 2022 will see critically acclaimed Danish blackened death doom outfit KONVENT return with a sophomore offering that doubles down on the band’s songwriting talent and brutal, heavy sound!

The sonic evolution of KONVENT over the course of just two years is immediately evident on Call Down The Sun, surprising with new elements at every turn. Undoubtedly inspired by recent dark times, the ongoing pandemic and cancellation of live performances, the new album sees the Copenhagen-based band more pissed off, fast-paced and pitch black throughout. Rikke Emilie List’s guttural, sublime growls and fierce screams perfectly integrate with a heavy as hell wall of blackened death and funeral doom metal riffs from guitarist Sara Helena Nørregaard, backed by a thick, profound rhythm section provided by bassist Heidi Withington Brink and drummer Julie Simonsen.

But give ear, as today KONVENT has unleashed a first single taken from Call Down The Sun! “Grains” is a ground-shaking, stomping black doom metal epos that will be a must-hear on the band’s upcoming live setlists – showcasing their deep black soul with a hint of post-metal and even progressive elements.

Watch the new music video for "Grains" HERE

"'Grains' is about realizing the repetition of self-destructive patterns and not knowing how to break out of that cycle. It is the first KONVENT song containing Danish lyrics, as we felt like the song called for it.” Vocalist Rikke comments.

"In our search for a video producer, we found Martin Goltermann and we quickly shared the same vision for the video; atmospheric shots of sand and the sea reflecting the lyrics and a black-haired woman's journey. As we were in a hurry, Julie had to step in and embody the part of the woman. After two days of shooting by the windy coast and in our cold rehearsal space, Martin wanted to go out again with Julie to get a few final shots. However, it had been snowing during the night and he managed to capture these beautiful shots of Julie gliding through the winter landscape. We loved it so much that we scrapped all the other footage."

Recorded and mixed by Lasse Ballade at Ballade Studios, Copenhagen and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege Studio, the new album’s thunderous apocalyptic sound is impossible to escape. Call Down The Sun a refreshing, vibrant record that is not only poised to top 2022 Album Of The Year lists, but reign as one of the best death and blackened doom metal records of modern times!

Envy Of None, the new band and debut self-titled album from Alex Lifeson (Rush) due for release on Kscope on April 8th!

Envy Of None, the new band and debut self-titled album from Alex Lifeson (Rush), Andy Curran (Coney Hatch), Alfio Annibalini and singer Maiah Wynne due for release on Kscope on April 8th

First single “Liar” out now –
Listen below.

PRE-ORDER HERE (https://eon.lnk.to/EnvyOfNone)

Alex Lifeson is no stranger to the concept of evolution. As a founding member of Rush, he’s been able to explore more musical ground than just about any other guitar player out there – taking rock to new progressive heights throughout the decades and always in the most wildly inventive of ways. His influence can be heard on countless bands around the world, from indie shoegaze and math rock to heavy metal and beyond. Over the last few years Lifeson has been focusing on a new project that, no matter how well-acquainted you are with his discography, will undoubtedly shatter all seeds of expectation and blow the mind. That project is Envy Of None.

The new band, also featuring Coney Hatch founder/bassist Andy Curran, accomplished producer and engineer Alfio Annibalini and singer-songwriter Maiah Wynne, will be releasing their self-titled debut album on April 8 via Kscope. Its 11 tracks – which ricochet between various shades of alternative, experimental and synth rock – throw surprises at every turn, twisting dark melodies against contemporary pop hooks. Lifeson himself is proudly aware of how little of it crosses over with the band that made him famous.

However, it was only when singer Maiah Wynne became involved that this truly started to feel like a band destined to go somewhere. Her haunting melodies and soul-baring intensity is – by the admission of her own bandmates – what truly brought this music to life. All things considered; she is a star in the making… “I sent over an early version of the song Shadow,” explains Andy Curran. “When I played what she’d done back to the others they were like, ‘Who is this crazy talented person?!’”

The album’s first single, Liar, is out now. Its industrial beats, driving fuzz bass and atmospheric guitars concoct a seductive swirl indeed – thrilling in ways closer to the darker art rock of Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and A Perfect Circle than anything these musicians have been known for prior.

“Maiah became my muse,” continues Alex Lifeson. “She was able to bring this whole new ethereal thing through her sense of melody on tracks like Liar and Look Inside. After hearing her vocals on Never Said I Love You, I felt so excited. I’ve never had that kind of inspiration working with another musician. When we say she’s special, it’s because she’s really fucking special!”

“One of my favourite things about these songs is the intimacy of them,” reveals Maiah Wynne. “It makes them feel different and more honest. There are some heavier songs too, like Enemy, and then tracks like Kabul Blues, that sound completely different to anything else.”

The album closer, Western Sunset, which was penned by Alex Lifeson in tribute to his dear friend Neil Peart. It’s a highly emotive piece of music to honour a man deeply missed by the rock community at large, and even more so by those who were lucky enough to know him. “I visited Neil when he was ill,” says Alex Lifeson. “I was on his balcony watching the sunset and found inspiration. There’s a finality about a sunset that kinda stayed with me throughout the whole process. It had meaning. It was the perfect mood to decompress after all these different textures… a nice way to close the book.”

It’s a book you’ll almost certainly want to be reading. Envy Of None’s self-titled album is due for release on April 8 via Kscope.

The album will be released on the following formats and is available to PRE-ORDER HERE(https://eon.lnk.to/EnvyOfNone)

BLACKTOP MOJO Release Official Lyric Video for "Strike Me"!

"‘Strike Me’ was recorded in our sessions for our self-titled album (released in 2021) at Sound Emporium in Nashville, TN and we had the privilege to add the background singing of the world famous McCrary Sisters on the track, who were an honor to work with. It was our first time bringing in outside background singing." - MATT JAMES

“The song is a sardonic answer to living through the great many turmoils we’ve all dealt with, especially in the last two years. It’s essentially us observing the world around us and exclaiming, ‘I’m coming, Elizabeth!’ to quote the late, great Redd Foxx.” - BLACKTOP MOJO

SYLVAINE is furthermore unveiling the artwork for 'Nova', which can be viewed together with the album details below.

To speak to Sylvaine, the one-woman multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, and composer born Kathrine Shepard, is to speak to some spirit that exists beyond the veil of convention and stereotypes. This is not a woman playing to the vogue dark melodic folklorist trope that has become so prevalent in the metal scene but rather, this is a woman who is a serious and classically trained composer and arranger whose songs, that originate on unplugged electric guitars in lavender and black bedrooms, end up exploding against the unlimited conventions of what modern music can accomplish.

For some time, Kathrine Shepard has been seen as the petite pixie of the Norwegian black gaze scene but her small eleven features and lightheartedness belie the woman warrior behind Nova, her complex and personal fourth release. Following her 2018 Atoms Aligned Coming Undone release, Sylvaine (a play on the name of one of her beloved French poets, Paul Verlaine) gives us Nova, an album that is both a musical and personal reawakening of a singer/composer finding her way in this world.

The Lord of the Rings type choir arrangement heralds in the opening of her latest release as we the entranced listeners follow her to the realm of Lothlorien. The creation of this ambitious release began in 2019, before the world changed before all of our eyes. Experiencing a personal loss in a time the world was suffering a collective loss, Sylvaine composed on her guitar and wrote in her notebooks, eventually leading her into the small rooms of Drudenhaus in early 2021. Sequestered away in the countryside of France, the Norwegian native and her musical cohorts would all contract Covid. Asthmatic since birth, our heroine isolated herself in a small room to score out the different soprano and alto melodies of an actual choir to make her vision for the opening track “Nova,” come to life. Sung in an imagined language, the syllables of NO-VA continued to emerge, suggesting to the singer something linguistically symbolic and important.

“I’ve been wanting to write a choir piece since my 'Wistful' days,” she says, “Just a purely vocal piece. I love harmonies and the most personal instrument you have is yourself, your voice. I wanted to really show who I am this time around.”

Naked on the cover, which may raise some eyebrows, Sylvaine insists to her fans that this is a symbol of her own vulnerability and personal rebirth that transpired over these years of creating Nova. “Nova" in terms of language is connected to words such as nuova (Italian) or nueva (Spanish), meaning ‘new’ and speaks to a rebirth, to loss, the temporality of life, grieving as nothing lasting forever, but looking forward as new doors are forever opening.

Album tracks “Mono No Aware” and “Fortapt” are compositions in the 10-minute range, showing the progressive skills of the multi-instrumentalist’s musical mastery and magic. Taking the loud and quiet back-and-forth of the ‘90s a step farther, she manages to haunt every note with primal sincerity. “Fortapt” is a particularly unique track, paying homage to Sylvaine’s Norwegian roots. And while critics may want to pin a song like “Nowhere, Still Somewhere” in the shoegaze or dreampop category, her mysterious resonance adds something to the composition that makes Sylvaine’s work defy categorization.

Much like Joan of Arc, Sylvaine is not a one-woman army without her legionaries. Instead of enlisting members of the folk metal glitterati, she has been a bit more selective about her surprise guests on her album, choosing Scottish violinist Lambert Segura of SAOR and cellist Nostarion aka Patrik Urban, whom she met while performing a very special acoustic show in Belgium in 2019. For Sylvaine, it felt emotionally appropriate to weave classically trained instrumentalists into her work, demonstrated on the last track on the album, "Everything Must Come to an End."

Unlike so many of the pixie dream girls haunting the American metal landscape right now, Sylvaine sings but also screams from the very depths. There is absolutely no one in the metal game right now who can match her vocal range, which traverses from the elvish sounds of Enya and Lisa Gerard to the black metal Ericthro screeches of her kvlt counterparts of the land of ice and snow.

In the U.S., we have a tendency to clarify bedroom pop as music that is composed in the feminine space of one’s bedroom confines. Although orchestral and incredibly composed, Sylvaine does not shy away from admitting her songs always start bare bones—almost all of her compositions begin with an unplugged electric guitar. “A melody and a chord progression should be able to stand on its own without any effects whatsoever. The song will go on to manifest itself in different ways but that main guitar part has to be solid enough to emotionally work just by itself, “ she says.

But to this lover of Verlaine and the French Romantic poets (as well as a diehard Type O Negative fan), the written word is still paramount to her heart. After all, she explains, “Music is an attempt to avoid the words we can’t always express in life.”

EPICA - To Celebrate 20th Anniversary As A Band With Re-Release Of First Three Albums, The Launch Of The Epica Universe And Anniversary Show

For their 20th band anniversary in 2022, Symphonic metal titans EPICA have prepared a massive celebration from January to December, with plenty of surprises, new projects, and of course some new music too that will all be revealed throughout the year.

After recently relaunching their first three albums, the now-classic, “The Phantom Agony”, “Consign To Oblivion” and “The Score 2.0” via Nuclear Blast, with an extensive physical re-release on CD, vinyl, as well as strictly limited earbooks and boxsets later this year. EPICA have started the year with launching nothing less than, well, their own universe: “We truly feel like there’s a universe within the band, a world of our own, and we want to invite our lifeblood to be citizens—Epicans, if you will”, the band explains. “Think of it as a sequel to past Epica fan clubs like “The Fantom Agony” and “The French Crusade” but updated for the modern era; it’s more fan community than a club. Epica Universe will give Epicans insight into our lives, both personal and professional, through exclusive behind-the-scenes photos, podcasts, polls, vlogs, live hangouts and much more. There’s even a (super limited) tier that includes one-on-one video calls with a band member each month!"

And what would a 20th anniversary be without a proper celebration live and in full color? The massive anniversary show is taking place at the same venue as EPICA played their first show back in the day, supporting Anathema: the 013 in Tilburg, The Netherlands.
