Austin Meade Has a "Loser Mentality" — LISTEN

Austin Meade has a loser mentality!

The gifted singer, songwriter, and guitarist has shared the brand new song "Loser Mentality," and it's a contemplative ballad that showcases his gift for relatable lyrics and wordplay, as well as the thoughtful side of his musical personality.

"Loser Mentality" examines the cyclical nature of culture and how what was once uncool will eventually become exactly the opposite. Meade even welcomes the return of the '90s in the catchy chorus, since what's old is always new again.

The song is a one-off release, as Meade is putting the finishing touches on a new album due out next year.

Listen to "Loser Mentality" below.

"'Loser Mentality' is a personal reminder to stop giving a shit about what all the cool kids are doing," Meade affirms. "You can't make something new and different by copying the cool kids; then it all looks and sounds the same. Go against the trends and be a loser for a while; they'll eventually look back and start copying you."

Meade, who is a little bit country, a little bit rock, and a whole lotta heart, recently shared the slightly NSFW video for "Dopamine Drop." The song appears on Meade's Snakefarm debut Black Sheep, out now. Get it here.

CONJURER's second full-length and follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2018 debut album Mire is set to be released in the not too distant future. Stay tuned!

The future of British metal lies in safe hands with CONJURER, who continue their journey as the country’s most exciting young metal band with their signing to Nuclear Blast worldwide.

CONJURER’s debut full-length Mire (2018) was released to a storm of attention from across the metal world, garnering significant acclaim from Metal Hammer UK, Kerrang!, BBC R1, Visions Mag (DE), Metal Obs (FR), MetalSucks, Metal Injection, Loudwire and many more. Recipients of award nominations (Kerrang!, Heavy Music Awards, Metal Hammer’s Golden Gods) and countless albums of the year lists, Mire is a stunning listen, capturing the attitude of a young band who already know exactly who they are.

Hailed as one of the metal world’s most devastating, thrilling experiences, CONJURER is a band never content to rest. Following Mire’s release in 2018, the quartet soon toured Europe for the first time, appeared at multiple UK festivals, and support of doom titans CONAN and WILL HAVEN.

In the following years, the band has toured the US twice, supporting RIVERS OF NIHIL (stopping to record an Audiotree session along the way), and then VOIVOD, with REVOCATION. 2019 also saw CONJURER’s debut Download Festival appearance, thrilling a packed-out Dogtooth stage, and the release of the joyous collaborative project with PIJN, titled Curse These Metal Hands. Later in the year, a split EP with PALM READER was released, containing two cover songs by each band.

It was only at the end of 2019 that CONJURER closed out their triumphant Mire cycle, with a sold-out UK run – their debut headline tour. Despite Covid-19 preventing live appearances for the majority of 2020, the band has unsurprisingly been busy, writing and recording their highly-anticipated second LP.

Dan Nightingale | Guitars, Vocals
Conor Marshall | Bass

FUNERAL Streams Entire New Album Ahead of Release

Norwegian doom metal pioneers FUNERAL will be releasing their newest full-length, 'Praesentialis in Aeternum,' on December 10, 2021 via Season of Mist! The band is now streaming the album in its entirety ahead of it's release! Listen at THIS LOCATION.

The band comments: "FUNERAL return with a contemplative exploration of the human condition. Baronial in atmosphere, deep in tone, vast in scope and for the first time in the history of the band conveyed in their native tongue. You are invited to listen and cogitate."

Pre-orders for 'Praesentialis in Aeternum' are now live HERE. You can pre-save the record on streaming services HERE.

Melancholy. Pain. Loss. Solitude. Those had been just some of doom metal main themes ever since bleak pouring rain and the sound of church bell in the distance gave birth to the genre on Black Sabbath self-eponymous debut over five decades ago. But how many musicians have actually been bearing in their very flesh those gut-wrenching feelings?

Anders Eek – Funeral’s founding member, drummer and undisputable leader since 1991 – doesn’t particularly see it as a badge of honour, but he’d be the first to admit that somehow, the “death and loss we had to go through over the years were extremely painful yet inspiring. But as a musician and as a human being.” And indeed, ever since their very first rehearsal in a basement in their hometown of Drammen just outside of Oslo, Funeral had been ridden with problems and tragedy. Originally inspired by Cathedral and Candlemass, they very quickly set out to create the most depressing and slowest form of doom/death possible at a time when their home country was being hailed as the birthplace of black metal. They went through several labels over the years, only to see them bust soon afterwards. Plagued by recurrent line-up problems, they even lost two of their key members Einar André Fredriksen (bass) and Christian Loos (guitar) in 2003 and 2006, respectively, to suicide and overdose.

But somehow, Eek never surrendered, but instead overcame all those obstacles by releasing over the years a slab of classics, each with its own, distinct personality, from the utter misery of the delicate yet none-so-extreme 1995 debut album Tragedies to the more melodic and accessible 2001 gothic/doom masterpiece In Fields Of Pestilent Grief or 2012 symphonic masterpiece Oratorium. Still, after the band most recent performance in Antwerpen on February 3, 2018, “life got in the way” as Anders puts it. “Some of us had kids, other moved out. Even I had quite a lot of things going on in my personal life and, at least for a while, maybe less drive to keep on carrying on the weight of the band on my sole shoulders. I never stopped writing music though because it’s something I’ve always done anyway. But there were less things happening you know. During that nine-year gap, I could have written ten albums but I only wrote two ah!”

The beast did sleep less than two years though as the following year singer Sindre Nedland, who had joined FUNERAL for Oratorium, “woke up from his slumber and told me he was ready to focus music again. I had the whole music demoed and ready, so it quickly snowballed from there.” For the first time ever, not only are the lyrics fully in Norwegian but they were also written by an outside collaborator, a “personal friend” of Anders who happens to be a psychologist. “He’s both a close friend and a fan of the band. So, he knows exactly how I roll and what the band is all about. I knew he was writing on the side so one day, as a joke almost, I told me about five years ago ‘hey, what don’t you write lyrics for my bands instead?’ and within five months, he did! His lyrics are more or less his take on philosopher Emmanuel Kant’s work. Initially, I thought about maybe translating them to English but it would have meant redoing them so in the end, we choose to keep them as they were. The booklet will include a little text explaining what they’re all about for those who don’t speak Norwegian.”

Musically, Anders describes Praesentialis in Aeternum (something along the line of “here eternally”) as a “natural progression. I know we have some fans who are only into the first albums and those who discovered us in the early 00’s but this new opus has a little bit of everything for everybody. The symphonic elements are far more bombastic yet much well more done, thanks to the evolution of technology since Oratorium. It’s in a way a mixture of our three last albums yet our most diverse work yet, with both quite concise and very epic pieces. As a matter of fact, we recorded something like ten songs but vowed to choose only the six best to get the best album possible.” Among them you’ll find one originally written during their third album From These Sounds session, one co-written with former founding member Thomas Angell (who left in 2000) and, in the deluxe version, a Candlemass (‘Samarithan’) cover version originally recorded back in 2005 with their then singer Frode Forsmo, thus linking Praesentialis in Aeternum with the band’s past history. Also guesting on ‘Ånd,’ the first single off the record, is Lars Nedland, Sindre’s own brother of Borknagar and Solefald fame. It’s also the first album for their new partner, Season of Mist.

Since the album was completed, the now septet has welcomed for the first time ever a full-time violin player “to perform live most of the strings you can hear on our albums as soon as we’ll be able to go back on stage.” In the meantime, Anders confesses the next album is more or less “finished. Praesentialis could have been released earlier if we hadn’t to face all those COVID-related problems. We couldn’t meet in person, let alone rehearse or even just take promo pictures… But now we have a new label, a new line-up and a totally renewed sense of energy so why stop there? Funeral started thirty years ago be truth be told, it’s never been stronger. So, doom on!”

TANKARD ‘FOR A THOUSAND BEERS’THE NOISE RECORDS YEARS DELUXE BOX-SET CELEBRATING THE BAND’S 40TH ANNIVER

TANKARD ‘FOR A THOUSAND BEERS’

WATCH A NEW VIDEO FOR THEIR ANTHEM
(EMPTY) TANKARD & PRE-ORDER HERE

The story of Tankard’s rise to one of the most revered thrash metal bands from their humble beginnings in Frankfurt Germany, began under their first name of Avenger in the early 1982. It was their ‘Heavy Metal Vanguard’ and ‘Alcoholic Metal’ demos changing hands in the era’s bustling underground tape-trading network that exposed them to the international metal community. Positive word of mouth soon attracted the attention of Germany’s own metal start-up, Noise Records, which signed the newly re-christened Tankard (beer mug) to a deal. Tankard’s tenure at the label spawned seven studio albums, one live record, a live video and a compilation and established them as one of the most enduring on the thrash scene. One they still tour globally to this day, to their hordes of maniac forces fans.

Never taking themselves too seriously and fuelled by a love of beer, their unique take on ‘fast thrash-punk’ is pure anarchy with lots of fun. Their ’86 debut ‘Zombie Attack’ was fast, furious and chaotic fun which set the table of what was to come. Following hot on the heels of their debut, 1987’s ‘Chemical Invasion’ sealed their thrash chops, with 1988’s ‘The Morning After’ cementing the band on the global scene. The ‘Alien’ EP kept momentum in ’89 until the 1990’s dawned with the reflective, ‘The Meaning Of Life’. 1991 saw their live fury documented in ‘Fat, Ugly & Live’ and also a legendary thrash fest in East Berlin was commited to film in the form of ‘Open All Night’. Tankard remained prolific through the tough times for thrash of the 1990’s, keeping the faith with the instrospective ‘Stone Cold Sober’ (1992), ‘Two-Faced’ (1993) saw them bare their teeth against social injustice and ‘The Tankard’ (1995) took them back to the familiar surroundings of the pub.

‘For A Thousand Beers’ is a deluxe 40th anniversary celebration of Tankard’s, Noise Records discography and is the definitive collection of their decade of recorded work and contains :

  • Zombie Attack (splatter vinyl)

  • Chemical Invasion (swirl vinyl)

  • The Morning After (including Alien EP) (splatter vinyl)

ABOUT TWIZTID

The TWIZTID tale is gritty and fascinating folklore, built on self-determination, fearless creativity, and the elimination of the boundaries between artist and audience. The dedicated supporters who stand with co-conspirators Jamie Madrox and Monoxide are more than fans: they are family. The duo remembers what it meant to be part of the crowd before they leaped the barricades onto the stage themselves, and with unrelenting passion and aggression, they’re taking all of us with them.

There’s a rogue’s gallery of hooks, rhythms, and riffs in the TWIZTID bag of tricks. For 25 years, they’ve concocted artistic anarchy rooted in the streetwise storytelling sophistication of hip-hop, trance-inducing hypnotic beats, and the seething bite of hard rock rage. Merging horror movies, comics, and a level of depravity and violence rivaling the grimiest of pulp fiction in the annals of Americana, TWIZTID is the reflection of a tightly knit subculture and the sound of unbridled id.

TWIZTID spin emotional truth into even the wildest of tales, resulting in something endlessly relatable to the alienated and disenfranchised. The music, multimedia, and merchandise originate from their own Majik Ninja Entertainment, headquartered in their native Detroit.

With over a dozen entries on the Billboard charts, 167 million career streams and 148 million Youtube views, TWIZTID built themselves into an institution, without the help of mainstream gatekeepers at MTV, traditional radio, or major press. They’ve brought their adrenaline-soaked, unbound artistic mania on the road, with metalcore acts like Motionless In White and on the Vans Warped Tour, all without forsaking the worldwide family they helped strengthen during their initial decade-plus on Psychopathic Records. TWIZTID built the connection they maintain with their fiercely dedicated legion of supporters to last and to evolve. Everything Majik Ninja does harken back to that original impulse shared by Monoxide and Jamie Madrox: to make art that swings a big ax at the boundary between audience and artist.

AngelMaker Release Video For Brand New Track "Exit Signs"

One of modern deathcore's most prevalent and consistent forces, Northern Vancouver six-piece ANGELMAKER have released their fourth two-track EP today, titled 'Eclipse'. As a mysterious pattern seems to be emerging, much like its three 2-track predecessors - 'Dawn', 'Twilight' and 'Dusk' - the arrival of the 'Eclipse' EP is heralded by a cinematic music video for lead single "Exit Signs" and brand new b-side track, "The Weight". Watch the video below. Find the 'Eclipse' EP on streaming platforms HERE.

Speaking on today's release, vocalist Mike Greenwood shares

"It’s easy to get lost in the moment. Sometimes we don’t notice all the warning signs of a situation until a lot later. “Exit Signs” explores the idea that we all experience subtle warnings that we should take heed of, but often let our emotions drive us deeper down the path. The song has a bit of everything, an epic chorus, some heavy breaks, and the melancholy we love to bring to our songs."

The 'Eclipse' EP now joins the three former 2-track releases to reveal a cryptic set of quadrants that takes fans on a journey from 'Dawn' through 'Twilight' to 'Dusk' and now 'Eclipse'. Between them the formerly quadrants have spawned lead singles & videos "Creator's Conscience", "Vengeance", and "What I Would Give" featuring B-side tracks "Eating The Body Of God", "The Great Grey Flame" and "Lazarus".

To date, the releases have clocked up over 1 million cross-platform streams and 278k YouTube views and seen ANGELMAKER placed as cover stars of Spotify's Deathcore playlist twice and been featured on several major playlists including Spotify's 'New Metal Tracks', Apple Music's 'Breaking Metal', Tidal's 'Extreme Metal Music' and Deezer's 'Deathcore'.

Revolver Magazine included "Creator's Conscience" on their '7 Best New Songs Right Now' list the week it was released, calling the track "a triumphant detonation that utilizes both of their vocalists and all three of their guitarists to unleash a mine-field-like assault on the listener." and Loudwire recently included "Creator's Conscience" on their 2021's Best Metal Songsplaylist.

ANGELMAKER levels listeners with a furious, focused, diverse, and violent extremity, creating deathcore of the highest order, injected with blackened thrash, a smattering of power violence, and the urgent ferocity of underground hardcore.ANGELMAKER summon the most brutal elements of Floridian death metal and combine it with the coldest permafrost of Scandinavian black metal, without the theatricality sometimes clouding the genres.

The brand new music unleashed by ANGELMAKER in 2021, crafted in recent months with producer Tim Creviston (Spiritbox, Misery Signals, Vultures) and mixed and mastered by Will Putney (Thy Art Is Murder, Knocked Loose, Every Time I Die), is the band’s most confident and destructive yet.

Ten years strong as an independent, do-it-yourself force, ANGELMAKER triumphantly stands tall. Keep it locked for more coming from ANGELMAKER soon.

ABOUT ANGELMAKER

The members of ANGELMAKER were all teenagers when the band formed (half of them even went to the same high school together) and began a decade long streak of independence that continues to this day. 2012’s Decay EP put them on the deathcore map. A three-way split EP with Lament and Isolations arrived the following year.

ANGELMAKER’s full-length debut, 2015’s Dissentient, was a massive standout, demonstrated by ferocious songs like “Godless", “A Dark Omen,” and “Leech,” the latter of which accumulated 1.7 million views on YouTube and 3.7 million Spotify streams. One Bandcamp commenter likened the album’s sound to “cutting your heart out with a rusty spoon.” Portland, Oregon-based producer Stephan Hawkes (Chelsea Grin, Attila, Red Fang) produced and mixed it. The album was included in Revolver Magazine's '15 Essential Deathcore Albums' list, calling it "a landmark album from deathcore's second wave." stating that the band "manage to sew a litany of melodic elements into their sound — clean guitar passages, hardcore gang-chants and genuinely gorgeous leads — without losing any ground in the ongoing war for breakdown supremacy."

The Unholy Alliance split with A Night In Texas arrived in 2016, less than a year before ANGELMAKER beat more than a dozen bands for a fan-voted spot on 2017’s Summer Slaughter Tour, featuring The Black Dahlia Murder, Dying Fetus, The Faceless, Oceano, Slaughter To Prevail, Origin, Rings Of Saturn, Betraying The Martyrs, and Lorna Shore, among others. That momentum continued across Canada, with ANGELMAKER selected as the only opening act for The Faceless on a short trek.

The deathcore subreddit lit up in search of footage from ANGELMAKER’s spectacular performance at the Brutal Assault festival in 2018 in an 18th-century army fortress in Czechia. MetalSucks presented the fall’s Bloodletting North America tour, putting ANGELMAKER alongside Virginia’s Arsis; California’s Decrepit Birth; Slovenia’s Within Destruction; and New York’s Internal Bleeding and Pyrexia.

ANGELMAKER’s self-titled sophomore album emerged in 2019, punctuated by unrelenting tracks like “Hollow Heart,” “BLOODTHIRSTER” and “Requiem.” They supported the record with shows and tours alongside Despised Icon, Kublai Khan, and Ingested.

The band’s dual-vocal and triple-guitar composition allows for new and diverse explorations of extremity, setting AngelMaker both inside and apart from the traditions of the deathcore subgenre. Now, as the British Columbian ensemble’s first new material in roughly two years seeps out from the underground in 2021, ANGELMAKER are back and ready to once again assert their place at the very forefront of the deathcore scene.

SPIRITS OF FIRE ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM "EMBRACE THE UNKNOWN"

OUT FEBRUARY 18, 2022

NEW SINGLE & VIDEO 'A SECOND CHANCE' OUT NOW

FEATURING NEW VOCALIST FABIO LIONE (ANGRA, EX-RHAPSODY OF FIRE)

Heavy metallers Spirits Of Fire have announced their return with new vocalist Fabio Lione (Angra, ex-Rhapsody Of Fire), who joins original members Chris Caffery, Steve DiGiorgio, and Mark Zonder on their second album, "Embrace The Unknown". The album will land on February 18, 2022. Produced by Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere, Archon Angel, Sweet Oblivion), "Embrace The Unknown" sees Spirits Of Fire picking up where they left off on their debut, with Caffery's skillful songwriting and fiery fretwork leading the charge. A new single and video, 'A Second Chance' is out today. Watch the video below.

Pre-order/save "Embrace The Unknown" on CD/LP/Digital HERE: https://orcd.co/embrace

Heavy metal supergroup Spirits of Fire first formed in 2017, released their first single in late 2018, and unleashed their debut album in February 2019. Originally formed by Chris Caffery (Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra), Steve DiGiorgio (Testament, Death, etc.), Mark Zonder (ex-Fates Warning, Warlord) and Tim "Ripper" Owens (ex-Judas Priest), the band's self-titled debut was met with fan and critical praise upon its release. As it approaches two years since the release of their debut, Spirits of Fire are now set to return with a new album, " Embrace The Unknown " that sees renowned Italian metal vocalist Fabio Lione taking over frontman duties for the band. Production this time comes courtesy of Aldo Lonobile, whose recent work on releases by Archon Angel featuring Zak Stevens, Sweet Oblivion featuring Geoff Tate, and his own band, Secret Sphere, makes him the perfect fit for the band.

Once again, the band worked on a set of songs that were primarily put together by Caffery, with Lione and Lonobile adding their own touches to Caffery's stellar songs. The final result sees a killer musical output that continues in the vein of “classic Priest meets Savatage” sound that the band has pursued since their formation. With Caffery's renowned guitar playing, the undeniable power of the rhythm section of Di Giorgio and Zonder, and the world class vocals of Lione, " Embrace The Unknown " sees Spirits Of Fire pushing their sonic stamp further and further. From the biting riffage of the charging opener “Embrace The Unknown”, the band is firing on all cylinders and prepared to appease the heavy metal gods.

Spirits of Fire are built to deliver classic in-your-face heavy metal and they have accomplished that goal on every level on " Embrace The Unknown ". From Lione's soaring vocals, to Caffery’s guitar pyrotechnics, to the propulsive and crushing rhythms of Di Giorgio and Zonder, the performances are stellar from beginning to end. There is no shortage of memorable, metal hymns to raise your fist and bang your head to on this all killer, no filler metal journey.

LINE-UP:

Fabio Lione - Vocals

Christopher Caffery - Guitars

Steve Di Giorgio - Bass

Mark Zonder - Drums

Abby Anderson Releases Powerful New Video for Latest Track "Bad Posture"

Video, Directed by “The 100” Actress Eliza Taylor, Raises Awareness for
National Domestic Violence Hotline

ICYMI: WATCH Official “Bad Posture” Video

Singer/Songwriter Abby Anderson returned earlier this fall with a new attitude and fresh new music to accompany her new outlook “singing with more guts than ever” according to MusicRow on track “Bad Posture.” While the reflective, self-empowerment anthem was personally about her own struggles in the music industry, the powerful song immediately began to resonate with those facing domestic violence.

“I’ve been blown away by the response to this song. The messages I’ve been receiving from women in abusive relationships and those impacted by domestic abuse was so unexpected,” shares Anderson.

Directed by actress Eliza Taylor, from the hit series “The 100,” the just released video for “Bad Posture” depicts Anderson’s struggles in an abusive relationship before finding the courage to leave. Although the video concept was in place before fan reaction to the song, it was important for Anderson the video direct viewers to the resources available at National Domestic Violence Hotline after the flood of messages she received.

“I hope this song and video both give anyone that might be going through this a voice, strength to leave or just help them not feel as alone,” Anderson continues. “Because they truly are not alone. Organizations like National Domestic Violence Hotline are there to help. It is why we wanted to spotlight them in the video so anyone watching can get the help they need.”

Last night to mark the release of the video, Anderson and Taylor participated in a live Q&A via Instagram with fans to discuss the song and video before its YouTube premiere. Watch the official “Bad Posture” video HERE.

Written alongside Anna Vaus and produced by Marshall Altman, “Bad Posture” showcases Anderson’s appreciation for the experiences and early life lessons that have helped her recognize and accept happiness, and embrace her past and her present with a sound that fully captures who she is as an artist, a songwriter and as a woman who isn’t afraid to stand up tall and say what she stands for.

The official video for “Bad Posture” follows recent releases “Insecure” and “Bad Posture,” which finds her “delving deeper into past pain and coming out stronger” according to Billboard. Anderson has received early playlisting support with New Music Friday, Good Vibes, and Pop Drive on Spotify alongside Apple Music’s New in Pop, New in Country, and New in Singer-Songwriter. The two tracks are the first taste of new music from her album due in 2022, via Stem.

About Abby Anderson:
After moving to Nashville at just 17, the Texas native began playing gigs at popular Nashville venues such as The Bluebird Cafe, The Listening Room Cafe and Tin Roof while working as a nanny to support herself. She signed a publishing and record deal and released her first song – it truly felt like she’d gotten her big break, catching the attention of country music tastemakers, from being named Pandora’s Country Artist to Watch to one of CMT's 2018 Next Women of Country alongside Ashley McBryde and Kassi Ashton, her bubbly enthusiasm was palpable.

Anderson’s first release, “Make Him Wait,” leaned into her Mormon upbringing and all the values a "good girl" should embody. Shortly after she released her debut EP, I’M GOOD, made her Grand Ole Opry debut and performed at CMA Fest and Dierks Bentley's Seven Peaks Festival. She was recognized as a member of The Bobby Bones Show's Class Of 2019, Music Row Magazine's 2019 Next Big Things and Sounds Like Nashville's list of Country Artists to Watch in 2019. She went on to make her national television debut on NBC’s “TODAY Show” and toured with Russell Dickerson, Chase Rice, Rob Thomas, Brett Eldredge and more.

Anderson walked away from her label deal in 2020 to focus on healing her mind and body, accepting who she was as an individual, and finally after 3 years, creating music she was passionate about. Giving herself permission to trust her own instincts for the first time in her career and creating her own identity rather than seeking the approval of those around her, Abby began a new journey in 2021, one full of acceptance and positivity. She is set to release new music that embraces her past and her present with a sound that fully captures who she is as an artist, a songwriter and as a woman who isn’t afraid to stand up tall and say what she stands for. Latest releases “Insecure” and “Bad Posture,” are the first taste of new music from her album due out early 2022, via Stem.

Peytan Porter's "Therapy" Gets Official Music Video Treatment

“It’s important to feel hope for what’s going to happen next…”

Peytan Porter spent the past five years refining her songwriting chops on Music Row before releasing her debut song, “Therapy,” as it was too important to her to get the stories just right. On the heels of the release, Porter brings it to life in an accompanying music video for the track today, watch it HERE.

“There are a lot of experiences I’ve written about over the years, some stay in the season that inspired them but others stick around long after and become pivotal points in my story both as an artist and as a person. ‘Therapy’ is one of those,” shares Porter. “Getting to share it with the world alongside a video that tells the real story behind the song (down to the actual locations) feels very cathartic, like finally closing the box on it personally and giving it to others who might be going through something similar,” the Dawsonville, Georgia-native adds.

“I want listeners to feel hope for what’s going to happen next. Something better is on the other side… and we all have to learn to trust that.”

Written alongside Micah Carpenter, Jonathan Hutcherson and Mackenzie Carpenter, and produced by Greg Bates and Evan Cline, Porter depicts her tightly crafted song’s story through hazy pastel frames of past memories split dichotomously with present moments over compelling lyrics:

So I’m giving me some
Therapy
Taking back the time you took away from me
People always told me you were bad for me don’t be mad at me
While I take a little time to focus on my recovery
Do a little personal discovery
Of who I am now that you got a piece of me
Baby let me be
I gotta get through a little therapy

The official music video, released today, was shot around Nashville, Tennessee and directed by Porter and Slater Goodson, with Cece Dawson as creative director.

With a distinct sound that seamlessly blends classic country storytelling with pop-savvy hooks, Porter’s fanbase has grown organically thanks to social media platforms. In early 2021, she signed her first deal as a joint venture with Jody Williams Songs and Warner Chappell Music.

Busy co-writing, collaborating and recording, Porter is set to release more new music in the coming months. For more information follow Porter on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and Facebook.

About the new LP from GREEN LUNG, 'Black Harvest':

Picking up where the self-released Woodland Rites left off, on Black Harvest, GREEN LUNG continues to draw inspiration from Britain's rich history of folklore, from witchcraft, and from cultish horror films. Nature - as always - is woven into the fabric of the songs; this time around the album was recorded in late autumn, and the seasonal atmosphere seeped into the music, which is redolent of mists, falling leaves, and the crumbling glory of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries of London, the city the band calls home.

About Eric Church
Eric Church has spent the past year releasing new music at a relentless pace; providing a glimpse into the results of a marathon writing session during which he spent nearly a month writing and recording a song per day – including current single “Hell of a View” – while sequestered in a rural North Carolina cabin, and fueling speculation that his highly anticipated seventh studio album is on the horizon.

Just as unique as Church’s approach to recording and releasing music is his tenacity on the road. During his most recent outing, 2019’s Double Down Tour, Church played back-to-back nights of two unique shows in each market sans opening act, giving every city’s fans six-plus hours of his iconic music. The tour also featured a massive stop at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, where he broke the venue’s concert attendance record with more than 56,000 fans in attendance and became the first artist to sell out the venue with a solo lineup.

A seven-time ACM Award winner, four-time CMA Award winner, including the 2020 award for Entertainer of the Year, and 10-time GRAMMY nominee, Church has amassed a passionate fanbase around the globe known as the Church Choir as well as a critically acclaimed catalog of music. His most recent album, Desperate Man, earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album (his third nod in the category) and produced his most recent No. 1 hit, “Some Of It.” Previous releases include the Platinum-certified Sinners Like Me (“How ’Bout You,” “Guys Like Me”), Carolina (“Smoke a Little Smoke,” “Love Your Love the Most”) and Mr. Misunderstood (“Record Year,” “Round Here Buzz”), the Double-Platinum certified The Outsiders (“Like a Wrecking Ball,” “Talladega”) and the 3x Platinum-certified Chief (“Springsteen,” “Drink In My Hand”), as well as 22 Gold, Platinum and multi-Platinum certified singles.

GIANT ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM "SHIFTING TIME" - OUT JANUARY 21, 2022

NEW SINGLE & VIDEO 'LET OUR LOVE WIN' OUT TODAY

FOUNDING MEMBERS DAVID HUFF & MIKE BRIGNARDELLO, GUITARIST JOHN ROTH JOINED BY NEW VOCALIST KENT HILLI

GIANT, the powerhouse rock quartet, are set to unleash their highly anticipated fifth studio album, “Shifting Time" on January 21, 2022. Now anchored by founding members David Huff and Mike Brignardello, the two are joined by guitarist John Roth (Winger, Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, Jimi Jamison) and vocalist Kent Hilli (Perfect Plan). After more than a decade since their last album, the band is back with new music that showcases their perfect blend of the melodic rock sound. Founding member Dann Huff has given his seal of approval and appears on lead guitar on the song 'Never Die Young'. Fans can get their first taste of "Shifting Time" today with the release of the single and video for 'Let Our Love Win'. Watch the video below.

Pre-order/save "Shifting Time" on CD/LP/Cassette/Digital HERE: https://orcd.co/shiftingtime

It has been over a decade since GIANT has released new music and drummer David Huff says, "We are very excited for people to hear "Shifting Time"! It has been way too long in between GIANT albums and we hope you find it worth the wait. Thanks to everyone at Frontiers and especially the fans for their undying support of GIANT!! We would love to follow up with some live dates in 2022, if that is something the fans would like to see, so hopefully we'll see you out there!"

"We have worked so hard and we are very happy and proud of this record", continues Huff. "I was so impressed with Kent’s vocals when I first heard him! He was a natural fit with our sound and we are thrilled to have him on board," he adds about new vocalist Kent Hilli.

”Wow, man, what can I say? To be asked to be the new singer for my all-time favorite band Giant was, and still is, mind-blowing! I still have a hard time grasping it all. I am tempted to use a certain film quote ("You know, I'm just a regular guy who grew up with the posters of these guys on my wall...and now I'm one of them! That's right, I'm standing here, living proof that if you work hard enough, and you want it bad enough…dreams do come true, so follow your dreams.”), but I won’t, haha. But seriously, that is exactly how I feel. I still remember hearing Giant's first album, ”Last Of The Runaways”, in 1989 which totally blew me off the chair I was sitting on. Since then, I have probably listened to their music every week. And now working with David, Mike, John, and also Alessandro has been a blessing and I am very proud of the album and the music we have created together. These guys are true professionals and I am blessed beyond words to be a part of this and David, Mike, and John have been so supportive and welcoming. I am also very grateful to Frontiers for making this happen and giving me and us this opportunity and I can’t wait to release the songs for everyone to hear,” says Kent Hilli of joining GIANT.

Originally formed in the late '80s by brothers Dann and David Huff, together with the experienced jazz and rock keyboardist Alan Pasqua and Nashville session bass player Mike Brignardello, Giant would become, with the release of their debut album "Last of The Runaways" (A&M Records, 1989), one of the most respected bands of the melodic hard rock scene. Following countless live performances in support of their debut, the band released the follow-up "Time to Burn" (Epic, 1991), an album still regarded as a main source of influence for many melodic and hard rock bands who came after. With the sudden change of musical climate in the early '90s, Giant disbanded with their members becoming involved in different projects, with both Dann and David Huff becoming well respected producers.

In 2001, Frontiers prompted Giant to release "III", an album that would prove to be a landmark in the growth of the new era Melodic Rock scene, particularly in Europe. Unfortunately, Dann's busy schedule along with the other members' commitments, made the reunion impossible to carry on as had originally been planned; however, the vision of bringing Giant back as a band with a recording and touring line-up was something that the band was still open to exploring, even if Dann had to step away. Thus, original members, drummer David Huff and bassist Mike Brignardello, with the blessing of Dann started an endless research for the right musicians that could be part of a renewed Giant line-up. In the end, the choice fell on vocalist Terry Brock (Strangeways, Seventh Key) and guitarist John Roth (Winger, Starship). The resulting album, “Promise Land” soon became a fan favorite, showcasing top quality songwriting and performances. Giant, however, went into hibernation again, with the exception of a one-off show in 2017, where the original band members reunited on a Nashville club stage for a charity event.

Even prior to that one-off live appearance, Serafino Perugino, President and Head of A&R for Frontiers Records, had been persistently contacting David Huff to do another GIANT album. (Literally, years and years spent convincing David that fans wanted another GIANT album.) With the one-off live event piquing fan interest again, Serafino and David Huff resumed talks to see if they could manage to find the right formula for a new album from Giant. When the Swedish band Perfect Plan released a cover version of the Giant’s original hit “Stay” in 2019, then all pieces of the puzzle started to fall into place. Serafino knew GIANT was Kent's favorite band of all-time and vocally, Hilli certainly had the chops to fill the very big shoes of Dann Huff, so he presented him to David Huff and Mike Brignardello. They were impressed with Hilli and were keen on the idea of him handling lead vocals for the next Giant release. Kent also brought his songwriting talents to the fold and together with other songwriters such as Alessandro Del Vecchio, Kristian Fyhr, and Pete Alpenborg (and contributions from Jonas Eriksson and Mike Palace), the resulting album will be an absolute joy and delight for melodic rock lovers.

Truly, the production, songwriting, and performances shine throughout "Shifting Time".

"Shifting Time" was produced by David Huff, Mike Brignardello and Alessandro Del Vecchio. Mixing and mastering was done by Del Vecchio for Frontiers Productions. Serafino Perugino serves as executive producer.

NOCTURNAL GRAVES Shares Savage New Song, "Beyond the Flesh"

Australian blackened death outfit NOCTURNAL GRAVES will be releasing their new full-length, 'An Outlaws Stand,' on January 07, 2022 via Season of Mist Underground Activists! The band is now sharing their brutal new single, "Beyond the Flesh," which can be heard below.

'An Outlaw's Stand' is now available for pre-orders HERE.

NOCTURNAL GRAVES sound the charge with their venomous new offering, ‘An Outlaw's Stand.’ Coalescing the nastiest and rawest elements of death, thrash, and black metal, the Australian outlaws’ brand of apocalyptic metal explodes like an atom bomb, leaving utter devastation in its path. The relentless onslaught of pure brutality makes one thing clear – Long live death!

NOCTURNAL GRAVES were originally formed in Victoria, Australia in 2004. Two well received demos, ‘Profanation of Innocence’ and ‘Deathstorm,’ followed in the same year. Quickly securing a deal, the band officially released the ‘Necromancer’ 7″ vinyl in 2006 before unleashing their cult debut full-length, ‘Satan’s Cross,’ the following year. The iconic album was later re-issued with the stunning cover art by renowned painter Paolo Girardi (INQUISITION, MANILLA ROAD, HIEROPHANT) in 2017.

When the Australians first hit Europe in 2009, they celebrated the event with ‘The Gravespirit Sessions’ split. Former DESTRÖYER 666 and RAZOR OF OCCAM guitarist Shrapnel, as well as drummer L.W., joined in 2012.

NOCTURNAL GRAVES widely extended their international fanbase with the release of sophomore album ‘…From the Bloodline of Cain’ (2014), which resulted in an invitation to the 2016 edition of Maryland Deathfest and more shows in the United States. The band supported the tour with a limited 7″ EP ‘Sharpen the Knives / Lead us to the Endless Fire.’

Upon a line-up change in 2018 in which L.W. departed from the band and J. took his place back behind the drums, the band saw their third album, “Titan,” released through Season of Mist. An Australian/New Zealand tour with WATAIN followed in support of the album’s release.

In 2019, NOCTURNAL GRAVES joined forces alongside DESTRÖYER 666, DEAD CONGREGATION, and INCONCESSUS LUX LUCIS and embarked upon the Sons of Rebellion tour throughout Europe.

At the onset of the world plunging headfirst into the pandemic, the band locked themselves away to write and record their fourth assault, ‘An Outlaw’s Stand.’ Upon reflection, this new offering encompasses the entire history of NOCTURNAL GRAVES, compiling eight tracks of sheer ferocity and raw, untamed black and death metal.

KORE ROZZIK Premieres Official Music Video for Single "Vengeance Is Not Enough" Due Out December 10th via The Label Group

"Vengeance Is Not Enough" Pre-Save link:

https://ffm.to/korerozzikvengeance

KORE ROZZIK premiered their cinematic new music video for single "Vengeance Is Not Enough" today. The single is a nod to the band's debut record Vengeance Overdrive and will release via The Label Group on Friday December 10th.

"We jokingly said Vengeance was not enough so it's the faux sequel of sorts" says the band. "It's the bridge between the first record and what's coming next."

It's a story of power, revenge and money. The band decided to go a different route this time playing action movie characters instead of a standard band performance video. Kore did all of his stunts alongside long time friend Karlo Vice who now wrestles in the north east independent wrestling scene (Create A Pro Wrestling).

Kore adds, "I have always been a wrestling fan and have had the pleasure of having friends in the indies and WWE, so it was great to do something fun and physical on camera this time. Our last videos were horror based and this was more action movie based. James Bond meets WWE."

The video was directed and co-conspirated by the highly acclaimed Tom Flynn who has done multiple videos with the likes of Lamb of God , Moon Tooth and Body Count just to name a few.

The single was produced by Kore's long time recording team Anthony Lopardo (Westfall Studios) and features Ray Marte (Moontooth) on drums and mixing duties.

Kore Rozzik has risen from the underground to give the rock community the breath of fresh air it desperately needs. Fans have described the live show
as “Organized Chaos” and “a true high energy rock and roll experience.”

Their live sets on tour have earned them the reputation as: A can’t miss live act. Variety is key to the Kore Rozzik sound which contains classic metal vibes with a modern day twist, think of Alice Cooper and Motionless in White in a blender.

After years of organizing their own events and supporting national acts in New York City.-The band finally broke out and began playing festivals and DIY tours with the likes of Bunny The Bear and others in 2017.

After the release of their first official music video “Mistress,” the band began to gain more fans and simultaneously naysayers. Many considered the Video controversial due to its horror and suggested violent undertones. Nevertheless the band was signed to Cleopatra Records and released its debut record
Vengeance Overdrive.

A bold move for a new act, Vengeance Overdrive was a detailed
concept record featuring connected songs and skits based around the character of Kore Rozzik aka The Bastard Child Of NYC. The record hit a nerve with many classic metal fans as it told the story of a misunderstood musician who just wanted to be a rock star. With themes of slander, bullying, horror and the occult, it has become a cult classic among many fans.

As the record hit the metal charts the band embarked on their first
mainstream national tour supporting the also controversial figurehead OTEP. The band was well received and continued touring thereafter as much as they could to support the record.

In 2019 the band landed a tour as direct support for globally renowned guitarist Nita Strauss (Alice Cooper). The band had truly arrived as fans and tour mates respectively gave Kore and the band their seal of approval. The tour got rave reviews night after and night and further expanded Rozzik’s new fanbase penned the “Kore Locos.”

With the aftermath of the Covid pandemic the band is back in the
studio putting the finishing touches on new music. Kore will release more singles in 2022 with a collage of headlining and supporting runs.

Kore Rozzik is

Kore Rozzik - Vocals
Andrei Patorski - Guitars
Alex Devious - Guitars

"..., this is an immersive listening experience that thrills, touches and connects on so many levels." Powerplay, UK

German post-rock/experimental quintet THERE'S A LIGHT will release their second album and label debut, f̶o̶r̶ ̶w̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶m̶a̶y̶ ̶I ̶h̶o̶pe̶? for what must we hope?, this Friday via Napalm Records! Fans of their atmospheric and multilayered post-rock were already able to take a further glimpse into the new full-length’s atmospheric soundscapes with their pre-released singles “Eplis” and “Dark Clouds Behind, Bright Skies Ahead”. Today, THERE'S A LIGHT are paving the final path to the imminent album release with their beautiful third and final single, "Be Brave, Fragile Heart”, alongside a heartfelt music video.

With a soft fade in, a peaceful melody of blended guitar and piano play emerges from thin air. Distant ambient tones follow, resembling light raindrops as they fall on an old, rugged iron roof. This time, the story of "Be Brave, Fragile Heart" is given life by Andreas Richau's gentle, breathy vocals, too. While flying synths and dissolute instrumental parts slowly pull at the listeners’ ears, a quiet, distant-sounding rhythm settles in, alike the gradual ticking of time. The whole piece stretches over seven and a half minutes and yet feels like a beautiful moment that passes far too quickly and that you could hold on to forever.

THERE’S A LIGHT on “Be Brave, Fragile Heart”:

“'Be Brave, Fragile Heart' is a song about discovering an unknown fragility within yourself and how to deal with it honestly. What might sound weak for some, we believe is a necessity to get out of the dark times that life brings to all of us sometimes. While destruction happens fast, healing takes its time.”

Watch the new music video for “Be Brave, Fragile Heart

Thematically, on f̶o̶r̶ ̶w̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶m̶a̶y̶ ̶I ̶h̶o̶pe̶? for what must we hope?, THERE’S A LIGHTtake a deeper look at the question of the true meaning of hope as well as at the different facets of it: On the one hand, hope can be something positive - a flourishing force that always gives a new impulse to grow beyond oneself. On the other hand, it can also do harm, for example, if one holds on to something that will never become reality.

Radiant album opener "...The Storm Will Set The Sails" immediately enchants with its shimmering melody and great arrangements, while the following "Within The Tides" presents a more dramatic, progressive touch with impressive technique and rhythm. Driving "Like The Earth Orbits Sun" is one of the tracks that features bassist Andreas Richau's captivating, emotional vocals, along with the multi-faceted exclamation point "Elpis" and spherical "Be Brave, Fragile Heart". "Dark Clouds Behind, Bright Skies Ahead" and "Appearance Of Earth" open up another spectrum of sound and expand the cosmos with the passionate cello playing of guest musician Akito Goto. The grand finale "Even In The Darkest Place..." weaves powerful instrumentation with dreamy moments into a harmonious overall construct, once again underscoring a hypnotic post-rock experience in the style of bands like God Is An Astronaut, Russian Circles and Sigur Ros.

THERE’S A LIGHT on the new album:

"So, we asked ourselves what hope stands for and what it means to us. We had a lot of conversations within the band about the good but also the bad aspects of hope and our experiences with it.

And we got answers and inspiration by history and philosophy. Like Kant who has extremely positive views on this topic - hope is necessity for human existence, it’s not seen by him as a personal but collective thing. This is where the album title came from.

The whole process of creating this album really took us on a journey and we found new ways to express our thoughts and feelings with our music. We took a few trips to France and wrote songs together in a cabin, but we also had to write a lot of parts simultaneously, since we are not living in one city any more. We had the chance to work together with new lovely people but we also reconnected with old partners in crime.

All in all it wasn’t an easy journey, but now we made it and are happy and proud to finally release this album with Napalm Records!"

ABYSMAL DAWN Unveils New EP, Shares First Single + Music Video

Los Angeles death metal titans ABYSMAL DAWN will be releasing a new EP, 'Nightmare Frontier,' on February 4, 2022 via Season of Mist! Tracklisting, artwork, and additional details can be found below. In conjunction with the release, the band is now sharing their brand new single, "A Nightmare Slain," along with a music video that was created by Guilherme Henriques! Listen and watch below.

ABYSMAL DAWN frontman/founding member Charles Elliott comments, "The music for this track was recorded for 'Phylogenesis,' but we left it off the record. We thought it was a great song but we felt it didn't quite fit into the flow of that album. The music shows a bit more of a slightly progressive and melodic side of the band, which we may explore more in the future. The lyrics were written during the pandemic and are inspired by the lore of the video game 'Bloodborne.'

"Now, we have a lot of songs filled with social commentary and introspective lyrics. When it came time to write the words for this one, I don't think I could bring myself to focus any more on the misery or subjugation that we live in our day to day lives. Who needs another song of 'COVID' drivel or divisive politics at this point? Hopefully we can all agree on what I discovered while I was trapped at home for over a year; 'Bloodborne' is one of the greatest video games ever made. 'Animal Crossing' and 'Mario Party' fans should definitely check it out, along with the rest of the 'soulsborne' genre for a stress free good time... We hope you enjoy our song inspired by one of the most metal games ever made. Enjoy and see you on tour!"

Pre-orders for 'Nightmare Frontier' are now live HERE. The single and EP can be pre-saved across all streaming services HERE.

Moreover, ABYSMAL DAWN will be embarking on an extensive North American tour as direct support for OBSCURA at the start of next year! The trek will kick off in San Diego, CA on February 3 and will conclude on March 23 in Fresno, CA! Tickets are on sale NOW!

'Nightmare Frontier' follows up 2020's critically-acclaimed album, 'Phylogenesis.' The album was named one of the best albums of 2020 by Metal Injection, Metal Insider (#7), Teeth of the Divine, Cursed Zine, and more! In addition, drummer James Coppolino is listed as one of Sick Drummer Magazine's favorite drummers of 2020 and the band's song "Soul Sick Nation" was among Loudwire's "66 Best Metal Songs of 2020."

'Nightmare Frontier' was mixed and mastered by Charles Elliott at Tastemaker Audio. Drums were engineered by John Haddad at Trench Studios, while tracking for all instruments was handled by Elliott.

American death metal masters Abysmal Dawn are back! After a six-year gap, the Los Angeles-based outfit and Season of Mist hereby present Phylogenesis. Not that Abysmal Dawn have laid low since the release of 2014’s lauded Obsolescence full-length. Far from it. They toured North America four times and hit Europe and South America for the first time. Meanwhile, founding member Charles Elliott opened his studio, Tastemaker Audio, to accelerate Abysmal Dawn's own recording needs, as well to act as a bridge to other bands in need of a knowledgeable and relatable audio technician. But the road to Phylogenesis wasn’t an easy one. Besides work-horsing it throughout the U.S., Canada, Sweden, Germany, the UK, Brazil, Chile, and beyond in support of Obsolescence, Elliott and crew managed through some of the lowest points in Abysmal Dawn’s career. Internal strife, administrative burdens, musical differences, and motivation all had their various ways with the Californians. Yet, from the darkest depths, they prevailed, heralding a new chapter in the group’s storied history. Indeed, Phylogenesis is Abysmal Dawn’s rebirth!

“There was a brief period after doing two months of touring back-to-back in the U.S. and Europe in 2015 that I almost felt like calling it quits,” Abysmal Dawn’s Charles Elliott says. "It was our first time in Europe and I just had a hard time enjoying it. The band had grown, and I was a bit tired of having to handle most of the managerial aspects of what we do. The joy had been ripped from things and people weren't getting along, and some people acted like they didn't want to be there. But we went our separate ways with some of the members and all of a sudden, the band was fun again. They went on to other things and we're probably all happier in the end. Sometimes, I feel it's a miracle this album or band even still exists. I've avoided swearing on our records in the past, but the album's opening line is actually, 'Fuck you all!' Maybe it's primitive by our past lyrical standards but it's genuine and it's the most heartfelt, ‘Fuck you, we’re still here’ I could put on a record. I’m glad we stuck it out because I think this is our proudest moment so far.”

To say Phylogenesis is an extension or continuation of Obsolescence isn’t exactly as straightforward as it should be. On one hand, all the Abysmal Dawn trademarks—technicality, brutality, and melody—remain ingrained in the songwriting fabric. On the other, the band’s fifth full-length is more cohesive, rhythmically sophisticated, and far more adventurous. Elliott calls it “a major evolution.” Certainly, the six years of constant refinement, edge smoothing, and transition adjustments have paid off. What started as jam sessions between Elliott, bassist Eliseo Garcia, and drummer James Coppolino in 2016 eventually turned into one-offs. That there was no time limit to put Phylogenesis together ended up both a blessing and a curse. Total creative freedom at very little expense is a dream scenario, something a band of Abysmal Dawn’s stature took advantage of for their magnum opus. But without a ticking clock and dollars burning, the pressure to focus was far less severe, resulting in delays and feature creep.

“It was basically James, Eliseo and me meeting up at my place, jamming on ideas, seeing what worked and tweaking them from there,” says Elliott. “With the exception of ‘Hedonistic,’ James wrote all his drum parts. Obsolescence was demoed with me programming all the drums since our drummer at the time had moved up north. It was what it was, but it was pretty frustrating at the time. Having someone to bounce ideas off of in real-time, helped in maintaining the joy and momentum of making this album. Once it was time to record bass and leads, Eliseo and Vito [Petroni; guitars] would trickle in when they had ideas. We had no real deadline and seemingly infinite time to do things. Admittedly, I think it was hard for me to focus on the lyrics, not only because of things in my personal life but because I was focused on getting the guys in to complete their parts so I could focus.”

Finish Phylogenesis they did, in fact. Under significant duress, Abysmal Dawn had overcome their roadblocks. The results of the group’s undulating professional and personal schedules aren’t to be trifled with, however. Opening track “Mundane Existence” is a firestorm of labyrinthine yet savage riffs, enraged vocals, and machine-gun drumming. It’s death metal personified, enlightened, and perfected. Elsewhere, tracks such as “The Path of the Totalitarian,” “A Speck in the Fabric of Eternity,” and “Soul-Sick Nation” (feat. Fredrik Folkare of Unleashed, Firespawn, et al.) pose real threats to the status quo. In all three, Elliott’s passion for and dominance of death metal’s tenets are tangible. But there’s more to Abysmal Dawn on Phylogenesis than customary ritual. From the ruthless groove of “Hedonistic” and the staccato stabs of “Coerced Evolution” to the late album gem “The Lament Configuration” and the blistering cover of Death classic “Flattening of Emotion,” the songs are designed to slay in ways we’re just beginning to understand.

“We’re a pretty brutal death metal band, but what I feel like sets us apart is that no matter what we do there’s always some underlying sense of melody and hooks,” Elliott says. “There are lots of bands that are ridiculously brutal. There are lots of bands that are over-the-top technically or are blatantly melodic. We combine all that but we try to write something that sticks with you over time; that you'll keep coming back to, and that works well in the live environment. We love all types of music, whether it's fusion or industrial music, and it shines through here and there. But in the end, though, we're a pure death metal band at heart trying to retain that old-school feel with an updated take for a new generation.”

Conceptually, Phylogenesis deals with the breakdown of social constructs humans have built over time. The album title is defined by the evolution of (or diversification) a species. So, Phylogenesis is an ironic take on Elliott’s observations, particularly how social media has accelerated and exacerbated the de-evolution of humanity’s interactive abilities. The cover art, again by Swedish artist Pär Olofsson, isn’t directly correlated to the lyrical narrative, but it does continue where Obsolescence left off. The Olofsson cover art has envisioned what it’s like on the inside of the Obsolescence tower, and that it’s humans that are being fed back to humans. The cover art continuity is akin to Richard Fleischer’s famed Soylent Green film but ripped through Elliott’s demented death metal lens.

“I think the lyrics deal a lot with things we encounter in our modern society and the effect it has on the individual,” says Elliott. “The dehumanization effect and divisiveness caused by bickering on social media (‘The Path of the Totalitarian’), the decay of legitimate journalism (‘True to the Blind’), struggling to find purpose in the pursuit of happiness (‘Hedonistic’), wishing something was greater than yourself (‘Mundane Existence’), the mental illness epidemic (‘Soul-Sick Nation’), embracing pain over numbness to feel alive (‘The Lament Configuration’), having our consciousnesses uploaded to a grid in order to make life sustainable on Earth (‘Coerced Evolution’), and the common theme throughout the band of wishing life on Earth would just start over (‘A Speck in the Fabric of Eternity’). I had started off wanting it to be a concept record but later scrapped that idea because I didn't like how it was going. In the end though, it just naturally all tied together in some way. Even the Death cover seemed to fit lyrically in hindsight. ‘Coerced Evolution’ is really the only song that in the sci-fi vein this time around. As for Pär, yes, he did the cover art once again. We love working with him and we’ve been creating great covers with him since 2006.”

Abysmal Dawn recorded Phylogenesis over a multi-year timeframe. In fact, Coppolino’s drums were tracked as far back as 2017 with long-time collaborator John Haddad at Trench Studios. The rhythm guitars and vocals, as produced by Mike Bear and Elliott, were also done at Tastemaker Audio the same year. So, some of Phylogenesis goes back, but the parts are no less lethal. Slowly but surely, the group’s newest and greatest materialized, with Elliott finishing the lead guitars, bass, additional vocals, re-amping, and mixing sessions in 2019, again at Tastemaker Audio. Abysmal Dawn then packaged up their fifth for mastering ace Tony Lindgren (Rotting Christ) to handle at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden. Contemporary yet absolutely remorseless, Abysmal Dawn’s Phylogenesis is death metal for a new age.

“We took our time and went to few studios this time around, so it’s a bit of a laundry list,” Elliott says. “John Haddad engineered the drums at Trench Studios. John has been involved with all our records in some form since From Ashes. Mike Bear helped track and produce the vast majority of my vocals and rhythm guitars out of my studio. Mike produced both Leveling the Plane of Existence (2010) and Obsolescence. I tracked and produced all the leads, bass parts, and other odds and ends and mixed the album as well. Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios mastered the record in the end.”

As for Abysmal Dawn’s next steps, the quartet await the release of Phylogenesis. With past support coming from the Village Voice, Decibel, PopMatters, and Pandora, as well as the group's rabidly-devoted fanbase, the future of death metal is in good hands.
