“Christian Death take a relentlessly confrontational stand against organized religion and conventional morality, with an appetite for provocation that makes Marilyn Manson look like Stryper.” - VH1

“One of the top ten goth bands of all time.” - Rolling Stone Magazine

Founded in Los Angeles in 1979 by Rozz Williams, the hugely-influential band trail-blazed the American goth and death-rock movement with their debut album, 'Only Theatre of Pain' (1982) and genre-defining 'Catastrophe Ballet' (1984) and 'Ashes' (1985). Of these, 'Ashes' is a true testament to the CHRISTIAN DEATH legacy, as it marks the final appearance of the classic band lineup. 'Ashes' features the final recordings of founder Rozz Williams alongside current CHRISTIAN DEATH main-man Valor Kand, vocalist-keyboardist Gitane Demone and drummer David Glass before Williams' untimely demise in 1998.

Death Metal Upstarts LIVLØS Reveal New Single + Video “The Purest Black“

New Album, And Then There Were None, out October 22 via Napalm Records

Pre-Order HERE

LIVLØS brings melodic death metal to new levels!

Danish metal phenomenon LIVLØS have established themselves as an essential new name in the international metal scene, ready to shake up the landscape of modern death metal with their upcoming album, And Then There Were None, out October 22 via Napalm Records. Their brand of Scandinavian melodic death metal – influenced by bands like At The Gatesand Carcass, and paired with American-rooted death metal in the vein of Death and The Black Dahlia Murder – has already earned the five-piece appearances at Copenhell, Eurosonic and Spot Festival.

After releasing the title track And Then There Were None, LIVLØS now present their second glimpse into the upcoming album with “The Purest Black”. LIVLØS go downtempo and truly evil with stomping drums, heavy guitars and punishing vocals - this song takes the listener through the diverse repertoire of the Danish powerhouse, combining Scandinavian metal influences with American-rooted metal!

Watch the music video for “The Purest Black”

On their new album, And Then There Were None, LIVLØS are audibly on top of their game: scrupulously ripping through nine tight, hard-lined tracks, the band takes no shortcuts while still maintaining a dynamic songwriting style that keeps listeners on their toes throughout the album’s runtime. Album opener and title track “And Then There Were None” sets the pace with punishing vocals and raging death metal riffs, leading into dramatic choruses and guitar solos that display LIVLØS’ incredibly multi-faceted talent right off the bat. Only very rarely will the band give listeners time to breathe, like on acoustic intermission “Kistefjael” or the slowed-down, stomping “The Purest Black”, which ends the album experience of And Then There Were None in a triumphant, epic manner. Songs like “Seize The Night” are impressive depictions of singer Niklas Lykke’s broad vocal range, reaching from deep and guttural to high-pitched and ear-piercing sections.

Excellently mixed by Jacob Bredahl (ex-Hatesphere) and mastered by Brad Boatright (known for his work with Obituary, Nails and Torche among others), And Then There Were None is an exceptional display of LIVLØS’ confident, modern approach to melodic death metal, meticulously executed from start to finish – revealing more of what it has to offer with every listen. LIVLØS prove that they are here to stay with And Then There Were None!

Check out LIVLØS going in depth in their Track-By-Track for And Then There Were None:

And Then There Were None will be available as a digipak CD and digital album, as well as 1LP gatefold black vinyl and an exclusive transparent red 1LP gatefold (limited to 200).

KRIZZ KALIKO & T-Pain Cause Chaos In The Streets Of Atlanta Doing Wild Hidden Camera Pranks In New Music Video For "BB"

mail-172.jpeg

Rap veterans Krizz Kaliko and T-Pain have teamed up to run wild in the streets of Atlanta pulling pranks with a hidden camera as they smash birthday cakes on unsuspecting bystanders in the new music video for "BB (Birthday B*tch)". The JMackTracks and Krizz Kaliko produced song is turnt up to eleven and floods listener's auditory senses with nostalgia for some of T-Pain's biggest club bangers.

The official music video for Krizz Kaliko & T-Pain's "BB (Birthday B*tch)" can be seen below.

"When T-Pain told me he was down to do a video, I knew I had to make the craziest video possible. The song is this crazy club banger so we just tried to make sure the visuals were over the top and matched how turnt up the song was. We even created a dance to go along with the song called the BB Slide," commented Krizz Kaliko. "We did some crazy pranks smashing birthday cakes on people, to the point where I wondered if we were going to get arrested. We documented everything and it turned out to be one of my best videos. The 'BB' Slide is about to be worldwide."

T-Pain added, "Krizz Kaliko is one of the most talented and dopest artists. I've known him for over 10-years so us collaborating has been a long time coming. He sent me over this record and there was no doubt in my mind I wanted to jump on it. BB is that birthday anthem so turn that shit up."

After dropping a bombshell on the hip-hop scene when it was revealed that he had left Strange Music and former touring partner Tech N9ne after an explosive 20-year ride, Krizz Kaliko revealed the formation of his own independent label Ear House Inc.

The first release under his new independence and new imprint was "WEIGHT", a single and music video that saw Krizz literally strip down completely naked to combat body stereotypes. Then Kaliko came back with an uplifting hip-hop anthem "Feelin'Good" featuring Futuristic that was so infectious even the jaded hip-hop snobs smiled and nodded their heads. His most recent single "Pressure" tackles the struggle to combat the stress of everyday life as it comes crashing down on you.

Krizz Kaliko has been let loose creatively since finding his independence and has shown his versatility with each new track as he sings silky smooth melodies, raps militant bars like he's clashing with titans, or explores his own struggles with mental health. His personal connection with his fans has made him and his new label Ear House a safe haven for fans from all genres and walks of life.

LA collective Beauty In Chaos and Whitney Tai mesmerize on new single 'Orion'

"Stunning musical and, in particular, six-string intricacy... layers of lush, ringing, occasionally grimy and often heavily effected guitars" Guitar World

"Guitarist Michael Ciravolo assembled an all-star cast for his moody hard-hitting album... Intense" Rolling Stone

"A rich sonic palette of unabashed gothic rock and post-punk romanticism, that reverberates through the varied inputs of a melange of musicians who are masters of their craft"Post-Punk.com

"Hauntingly heavy and beautiful"LA Weekly

Los Angeles-based alt rock / post-punk collective Beauty in Chaos has released their new single 'Orion', along with a stunning otherworldly video, both of which feature the captivating Whitney Tai.

Beauty in Chaos is the brainchild of guitarist Michael Ciravolo. The LA-based New Orleans native is also President of Schecter Guitar Research. Until launching BIC, Ciravolo was guitarist in Human Drama for 30 years and had also played live and recorded with Michael Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel since 1998.

“Musically, Orion continues on the path set by 'Stranger', the final track on ‘The Storm Before The Calm’ album. Whitney’s lyrics and soaring voice were a perfect match for this track and sets the tone beautifully for our next record,” says BIC curator Michael Ciravolo.

In 2020, Beauty In Chaos released ‘The Storm Before The Calm’ and the remix-based ‘Out Of Chaos Comes…’ albums to critical acclaim. Recorded at Ciravolo's SAINTinLA Studio, this LP was produced by Grammy nominee Michael Rozon, known for his work with Ministry.

“When Beauty In Chaos reached out to me with the opportunity to co-write on a song for their upcoming album, I was immediately hypnotized by the glacial, meandering and crystalline use of guitars against this haunting and dark verbed-out atmosphere. My mind went down the rabbit hole of the past two years that our globe has faced. 'Orion' is the ego of destruction," says Whitney Tai.

"It’s about breaking free from the manipulators mind and severing the ties of deception. A story of an a-type personality, “the hunter”, and how the roles narcissism and exploitation torment the fears and strengths of the human psyche”.

Bridging a cosmic cross between Annie Lennox's timeless vocals and Kate Bush's lyricism, Whitney Tai crafts unique pop-rock anthems and melodic synthpop passages. With trademark seductive compositions, the award-winning singer-songwriter's hypnotic voice, weaving seamlessly through genres.

“We try to make each of our videos different from the others, while being true to the singer and the lyrics. 'Orion' is like nothing we have done before; it has a very cinematic ‘big-screen’ look to it… and was really a lot of fun to make," says Ciravolo.

Since its inception, BIC has involved many music luminaries, including members of The Mission, The Cure, Ministry, Cheap Trick, The Offspring, Gene Loves Jezebel, Marilyn Manson, Human Drama, Bauhaus, Nine Inch Nails, Van Halen, A Flock of Seagulls, as well as dUg Pinnick (Kings X), ICE-T, producer Tim Palmer, guitar icon Zakk Wylde, Ashton Nyte (The Awakening), Evi Vine and Rolan Bolan.

'Orion' will be included on the next Beauty In Chaos album ‘Behind The Veil’, which will feature all female vocalists and is slated for release in February 2022 via Los Angeles' 33.3 Music Collective. In the meantime, 'Orion' is available across the internet at https://beautyinchaos.hearnow.com/orion and via Bandcamp. Beauty In Chaos' catalogue can also be explored at https://www.beautyinchaosmusic.com/music-store

Cravism x Maya Diegel (Singapore-France) release 'Hard Shoes' single plus live rendition of 'Caryatid / Ladies Night'

"Reassuring and a sweet aide-memoire of mellow jazz / trip hop and soulful R&B offerings by the likes of Morcheeba, Olive, Corinne Bailey Rae and Erykah Badu, albeit with an evident hip-hop element as well. This is sweet music to my ears and definitely should be circling around yours" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"Deep, soulful, sincere and sexy, this is music for chilled wine or martinis, body groove and warm nights. This is both sensual and eloquent, also having a profound message from the prism of womanhood in the 21st century" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"What a little slice of Paradise sounds like on a summers day... a chill-pill, a R N B trip-hop, a neo-jazz excursion to a soul sanctuary, drifting towards pop pastures" ~ The Manc Review (Single of the Day)

"Utterly beautiful... chilled and cinematic, hushed and hazy, gorgeous and gentle" ~ The Swindonian

R&B/ Lo-Fi/ Chill hop duo Cravism x Maya Diegel present their new single 'Hard Shoes', further showing the depth and weight of their seriously soulful artistic trajectory. This song will warm your heart with its soulfulness and feeling of joyous nostalgia.

"This song is about loss and moving forward towards a life filled with joy and hopefulness," says Maya Diegel.

With hues of Amy Winehouse and Kaiit, not to mention a neck-breaking beat-drop, this track previews their sophomore project 'Caryatid EP', which entails a series of songs and films from the Singaporean-French duo.

"Hard Shoes was inspired by the UK music scene. Written and recorded in Cornwall, this was one of the last songs Maya and I wrote together in the UK before we flew back to our hometowns. This song means a lot to me as it brings back all the memories we had when we were in the UK. The song starts off with just keys and vocals, just enough for you to vibe with. at 1:36 that's where the beat comes to change the entire mood of the song. There'll be a live version dropping a week after the release date," says Cravism.

The duo have also shared a live performance of their latest single-combo 'Ladies Night / 'Caryatid'. The official video for 'Ladies' Night' and 'Caryatid' was created by Arthur Etienne and Thibaut Vega. 'Ladies Night' is a dark, chilled and sexy track, while 'Caryatid' is comfortable, relaxing and groovy.

Earlier, the duo released the lead single 'It's Okay', with soulful and jazzy textures laid over lush mellow jazz hip hop beats, transporting the listener into a chilled relaxing realm.

The 'Caryatid EP' was mixed by Thomas “Mister T.” Gloor at AKA-Studios in Switzerland and mastered by Hegar (D’ Angelo, KRS-One, Cody Chestnutt) at Fisheye Music in the USA.

Hailing from Paris and initially trained as a jazz singer, Maya Diegel's trajectory would take a big turn upon meeting Singaporean producer Cravism several years ago in Cornwall after his performance at the local university, Maya fell in love with Cravism's set and sought to collaborate. Impressed by Maya's capacity for writing high level melodies, harmonies and lyrics, their fateful meeting ultimately brought the 2019 release of their first collaborative album 'Vibes, vol. 2', which resulted in ample playlisting and radio interviews and ultimately secured them a record deal with Komplex Recordings.

With two albums and UK/Singapore tours prior to meeting Diegel, Cravism has always been immersed in hip-hop culture. A professional b-boy, Cravism began playing the piano and trumpet early, progressing into recording and producing. His music has been used in Berlin, Hong Kong, London, Mexico City, Milan, Moscow, Paris, and Seoul for the Adidas Originals Flagship Store. It has also been featured in many documentaries, including 'The Cuppa Depresso', 'Elevate the Streets', 'Dead was the Body' and others. Cravism was also the opening act for legendary Hip-hop trio Slum Village during "Dilla Week" in Falmouth 2019.

Maya Diegel explores different altitudes with her voice, drawing influences from Hip-Hop, RnB, Neo-soul, Jazz hop and funk. After graduating with a music bachelor in the UK in 2019, she has launched her music career, in addition to pursuing a career in the cooking world, her other great love. A born singer-songwriter, Diegel's style and delivery conjures emotions and atmosphere that make for an incredible experience.

As of October 1, 'Hard Shoes' will be available everywhere online via UK-French label Komplex Recordings, including Apple Music and Spotify. The full 'Caryatid EP' will be released on October 22.

Horror Rockers VAMPIRES EVERYWHERE Release New Five Song EP 'The Awakening' via Cleopatra Records

VAMPIRES EVERYWHERE

Release New Five-Song EP

'The Awakening'

via Cleopatra Records

Plus New Music Video For

"The Hills" (The Weeknd Cover)

Las Vegas-based horror rockers Vampires Everywhere have today released their long-awaited EP, 'The Awakening' (out via Cleopatra Records). In celebration of the new EP, the band has also dropped the music video for their interpretation of The Weeknd's hit single "The Hills". Leading up to release day, Vampires Everywhere have shared tracks "WITCH", resurrecting the band from a 5-year hiatus, and most recently "Death Of Me". Not only that, but the band kicks off their US tour today and has also announced that their fans across the pond will have the opportunity to see them in London in April 2022. Speaking on today's news, frontman Michael Vampire comments:

"It's absolutely insane to me that I'm releasing another piece of work under the Vampires Everywhere moniker! It's such an amazing feeling bringing this band back full circle and bringing it back strong. The idea of ending the hiatus dawned on me about a year ago. It's been such a mindfuck putting all the pieces back together and for all intents and purposes, starting from scratch. The music industry is a fickle entity that must be approached with intensity and extreme vigilance, which I think we approached this comeback with all of those elements. It's with great happiness that we release "The Awakening", which I feel is a fresh but nostalgic body of work that represents VE 3.0. Self-produced by me and Craig Pirtle, this EP is personal and not dated! We wanted an album that would pull at the heartstrings of the new wave of rock but still pledge its undying loyalty to the VE fans that helped shape the band over the last 11 years. I think Matt Good did a great job mixing it! He fit us in right before he started recording Asking Alexandria. Big thanks to Matt for making that happen.

I am a giant The Weeknd fan! I've been captivated by this artist for quite some time and I knew I would eventually cover one of his songs. I think "The Hills" was a perfect choice for my voice. The lyrics really speak to me. We wanted to maintain the beauty of the original song but also bring heavy vibes to it. I believe we absolutely did this song justice and hope The Weeknd ends up hearing it! I recruited Randy Edwards, who did our last 4 music videos to come out to Los Angeles and bring my vision to life. I didn't want a storyline for this particular video and wanted the performance to speak for itself. Unfortunately, we shot in a warehouse space that was 100 degrees the whole time, but we still managed to kick some ass and bring this video to life!

It's been 6 years since we hit the road with Filter and Orgy. I thought that would be our last voyage into the abyss, however, it was only the beginning it seems. I couldn't be happier heading out with Vampires Everywhere! I believe I have an amazing lineup of artists that truly understand my vision... We are about to head out on a 30 day run taking us through the entire United States! Stoked to be doing that with our friends in Assuming We Survive, The Bunny The Bear, and Fate Destroyed. I am also beyond excited to announce Vampires Everywhere is finally heading overseas to the United Kingdom to play The Underworld in London! It’s been 11 years in the making and I feel the timing is perfect. Tickets are on sale now!"

Vampires Everywhere were conceptualized in early 2010 by Michael Orlando later known as Michael Vampire. The band started its journey in Hollywood, CA-based on the idea of bringing a fresh feel to an already saturated metalcore market. Michael has been obsessed with the 1987 cult classic film "The Lost Boys" since age 13 and wanted to start a band around his love for the movie and his passion for rock music. The band quickly gained notoriety in 2010 with their debut music video for "Immortal Love" which hit half a million views and landed on the iconic MTV Headbangers Ball. A few months later VE was signed to Century Media Records and toured with Black Veil Brides on the Hot Topic Tour around the United States. The band also landed an opening spot for X Japan's first North American run playing for over 5,000 people a night and to this day is the only band to open for X Japan in the US. After an amazing run on the 2012 Warped Tour, the band was asked by Kevin Lyman to headline Rob Zombie's Great Adventure in Pomona, CA. Vampires Everywhere have since toured with the likes of Motionless In White, AIDEN, Alesana, Orgy, Filter, Falling In Reverse, and countless others. The band is beyond excited for its new chapter in 2021 signing with iconic Los Angeles-based record label Cleopatra Records. Stay tuned for more Vampires Everywhere news coming soon.

Bay Strikes Back Tour Featuring Testament, Exodus and Death Angel Postponed Until 2022

mail-171.jpeg

The North American leg of the Bay Strikes Back tour featuring TESTAMENT, EXODUS, and DEATH ANGEL has been postponed until 2022.

We were really on the fence with this decision,” says TESTAMENT guitarist Eric Peterson. “But seeing other bands make it through with a few mild cases and other bigger bands just canceling their entire tours, we felt it is in our best interest to postpone these shows to '22.”

Adds fellow guitarist Alex Skolnick, “It gives none of us any pleasure to be the bearers of bad news yet again, but here we are. Although Bay Strikes Back is a top tour package for theaters, the reality is this: It can’t afford to take the risks that top-grossing larger venue tours have been taking. The type of disruptions Kiss and other large outdoor venue tours have experienced could cause our shows to be permanently canceled - a lose/lose for everyone. The fact that a lower-budget tour such as ours is limited to indoor venues with tight backstage space only adds to the risk. It should go without saying that calling off these dates was a ‘last resort’ decision, and everyone involved would much rather this weren’t the case. However, this is the new reality we’re all in. All we can do is hope for everyone’s understanding, which we ask for sincerely.”

The trio of bands will perform as scheduled at Sacramento’s Aftershock Festival on Thursday, October 7, as well as the hometown show scheduled for November 27 at Fox Oakland.

We are saddened to announce that the Bay Strikes Back tour is being postponed, but the risk of canceled shows due to positive tests leading to tour personnel being quarantined and isolated is just too great at this time,” says EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt. “We want to feel safe, enjoy the tour and be able to hang out with our close friends. The silver lining in this is that Tom Hunting no longer needs chemo and will have more time to work his way back to doing a full tour. He will make his return behind the drums at Aftershock but a full tour requires more preparation, so that is the good part.

Bay Strikes Back dates have been rebooked beginning in April and will include additional cities not originally scheduled for the tour.

“Usually when I’m asked to contribute a quote to an announcement it pertains to something I’m extremely excited about,” says DEATH ANGEL vocalist Mark Osegueda. “In this case, I’m gutted… It pains me to announce that The Bay Strikes Back U.S. Tour is being postponed. No one was looking forward to this more than me. But, on the brighter side of things, the tour is in fact going to happen - just at a later time. And I can assure you that the already ravenous to play live members of Death Angel promise to provide a crushing set during a crushing tour. The Bay WILL Strike Back!”

All tickets purchased for the original dates will be honored for the new dates. Refunds will be available at point of purchase.

Dubliner STEPHEN NICHOLAS WHITE releases debut REVOLUTION ABOVE DISORDER single 'Illuminate'

"Takes the prize for the perfect nugaze single... if White were looking for a sonic something that balanced out the familiar and innovative, something cold yet calming, something futuristic while rooted in retro electro, then he has solidly hit the nail on the head here" ~ The Spill Magazine

“I love working with Stephen. There’s a trust and flow that spawns a real magic in the music. You can hear the adventure in the songs" ~ Jason Corbett (ACTORS, Jacknife Sound)

Revolution Above Disorder presents his debut offering - 'Illuminate' - a powerful and euphoric post-punk / shoegaze single rooted in new wave and electro rock - a melting pot of post-punk, psychedelic rock and electronic music underpinned by raw, sincere vocals.

Revolution Above Disorder is the solo moniker of Dubliner Stephen Nicholas White (The Orange Kyte, House of Dolls, The Subterranean Satellite Band, Magic Shoppe), who is currently based in Vancouver. Revolution Above Disorder’s music is electronic-tinged post-punk with raw, honest lyrics driving the songs.

Experimental in its sound, but with a strong emphasis on songs and lyrics, 'Illuminate' is the original version previewing this 3-track release. This is guitar-based rock augmented by synths, drum machines and heavily treated instrumentation with a spine of pure melody.

Where The Orange Kyte was an exercise in saying yes to everything and seeing what happens, allowing the sound and personnel to morph, twist, evolve and devolve, Revolution Above Disorder is driven by a well-defined over-arching postpunk-psychedelic aesthetic, as well as a more polished and meticulously crafted approach in the studio.

"Illuminate’ is the song that kick started Revolution Above Disorder. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I’d just come off a European tour with Magic Shoppe and I found myself having to cancel scheduled plans with The Orange Kyte. In my downtime I began to reevaluate where I was headed musically and I realized I’d become dissatisfied with what I’d been doing. As I searched through old demos from the past, some going back over a decade, I was excited to hear songs with real potential that either I’d abandoned or just plain forgotten about. I grew interested in the idea of this modern day version of myself collaborating with my chaotic and directionless former self. I wanted to finish what I’d started many years prior. '‘Illuminate’ was the first one I needed to record," says Stephen Nicholas White.

"This was originally conceived in 2013, albeit with different lyrics. I changed the lyrics from a song of misery and self-pity to an optimistic song of enlightenment and transcendence. It’s a song about getting your shit together and overcoming your own bullshit. A call to arms of sorts as a reminder to dig deep when distraction and resistance come knocking. The first line is ‘Revolution above disorder, divinity over all else…’, it seemed appropriate to use Revolution Above Disorder as the name for the entire project after that."

The video was directed and edited by Eliot Galán of Galán Films, a key creative (cinematographer, director, videographer, editor and colourist) in Vancouver's film & tv industry, starring Analissa Longoria and Mat Durie.

The 'Illuminate' single was produced, mixed and mastered at Jacknife Sound by Jason Corbett of ACTORS. The track features ACTORS' Shannon Hemmett and Kendall Wooding on backing vocals, and bandmate Adam Fink on drums, as well as Josiah Webb of Magic Shoppe on guitar.

'lluminate (Delta Omega Remix)' was remixed / produced by Delta Omega a.k.a. Conor Paxton (House of Dolls, Buffalo Sunn, The Brothers Movement) in Dublin, Ireland

As of September 21, 'Illuminate' will be available as an instant gratification track via Apple Music and Bandcamp. The 3-track 'Illuminate' single will be released digitally on October 22.

Loaded with massive hooks, infectious choruses, pulsating grooves, and mesmerizing melodies.

-Outburn-

Ambient-atmospheric voyages with an epic score, you can feel Margarita’s vocal styles in an echo chamber crying out in the middle of a desert storm.

The strongest compliment that can be given to The Unknown is that it sounds exactly as Edge of Paradise should.

-Dead Rhetoric-

The evolution of Edge of Paradise has manifested itself inside The Unknown. From the songs’ arrangement to the band’s confidence in each of their roles on the album, it is evident that greatness is close and inevitable.

“The Unknown” is Edge Of Paradise's fourth studio album, coming on the heels of their well-received third album, and Frontiers Music Srl debut, “Universe”. The band teamed up with renowned producer Howard Benson (Halestorm, My Chemical Romance, Seether, etc.) who, together with Mike Plotnikoff (Halestorm, Three Days Grace), and Neil Sanderson (Three Days Grace) helped the band craft their biggest sounding album yet. Add in mixing and mastering by Jacob Hansen (Amaranthe, Volbeat, Pretty Maids) and you have a fool proof recipe for a sonically stunning album. “The Unknown” builds upon where “Universe” left off, developing Edge Of Paradise's overall symphonic and metallic sound while bringing it to the next level. Gigantic hooks paired with monolithic guitar riffs in a spacious sea of symphonic sounds will immediately grab listeners and whisk them away on the band's sonic, and lyrical, journey.

Edge of Paradise's founding members, singer Margarita Monet and guitarist Dave Bates, have found their perfect partners in crime with the addition of drummer Jamie Moreno and bassist Ricky Bonazza. The band, tighter than ever, is ready to blow everyone away once they are back on the road with this stunning new music in tow. Current plans are for the band to tour extensively through 2022 in support of "The Unknown" as well, with touring announcements coming up soon.

EPICA - Launches "Epica"- Beer In Cooperation With Kazematten Brewery!

If you're still searching for the perfect drink to enjoy while headbanging on your couch to the upcoming "Ωmega Alive" release, look no further! Together with the renowned Belgian craft beer brewery Kazematten, symphonic metal titans, EPICA created their own "Epica Beer" that is now available at https://www.kazematten.be/en/beers/epica/.

Guitarist Isaac Delahaye comments on the new partnership: "Being born and raised in Ypres (Belgium), and having seen the rich history of Belgian craft beers, I didn’t have to think twice to accept the proposal of my hometown brewery to create a custom EPICA lager beer.
Together with the team at Kazematten, who have been perfecting the recipe with passion, know-how, and tremendous craftsmanship for the last 18 months, we came up with this easy-to-drink and unbelievably smooth 5,4% beer.
Tasting the final result sure put a smile on the faces of everyone in the band, and we all quickly grabbed another one."

Just like the band itself, EPICA Beer is a great combination of very different flavors. The unmistakable biscuit malt backbone, supported by an irresistible touch of honey, alternates with lovely citrus notes and a spiciness that packs a punch. With just the right amount of hoppy bitterness, EPICA has a well-balanced, refreshing taste that pairs nicely with a burger, hot wings, or a pizza!

HEMLOCK ANNOUNCE “VIOLENCE & VIC-TOUR”

Las Vegas-based metallists Hemlock have announced that they will be hitting the tour trail once more starting in mid-October, as part of “Violence & Vic-Tour 2021.” Having already shared the stage with some of metal’s biggest names (Slayer, Ministry, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, Megadeth, etc.), the autumn run of dates will stretch through at least late November – as more dates are sure to be added.

Comprised of members Chad Smith- vocalist and bassist, Brian Jackson- guitarist and background vocalist, Tevon Giannini-guitarist and background vocalist, and Brian Smith- drummer, Hemlock is self-described as a “heavy blend of chugging riffs, deep bass tones, rhythmic grooves and catchy ass lyrics, with a haberdash of melody mixed in.”

The dates will be in support of not 1 but 2 (!) albums the group released on the same day this past February – ‘KARMAgeDDoN’ and ‘Violence and Victory.’

Chad Smith: “Hemlock is beyond excited to be headed out on tour again! We missed everyone so much the last 2 years. We are ready to deliver the brand new Hemlock songs live along with the classics. We can't wait to headbang and smile with all of you every single night again.”

“Hemlock had more unexpected free time than ever before...so we stayed focused and positive and wrote/recorded 22 brand new songs of heavy metal and hardcore groove anthems of truth and optimism! Our 2 new albums ‘Violence & Victory’ and ‘KARMAgeDDoN’ are by far the best material we've done to date. There were no rushed deadlines...no crunch time in the studio...just pure unadulterated Hemlock to the fullest. And it turned out sounding bigger than life because we had the legend Logan Mader mix and master the albums!”

CYNIC Shares Behind the Scenes Artwork Video + Exclusive Interview via Heaviest of Art

Progressive rock legend CYNIC will be releasing its highly-anticipated new full-length, 'Ascension Codes,' on November 26 via Season of Mist! Guitarist and founding member Paul Masvidal is now sharing an intimate one on one conversation with 'Ascension Codes' cover artist Martina Hoffman. In addition, Masividal has also done an exclusive interview with Heaviest of Art regarding this powerful collaboration. You can watch the video, see exclusive behind the scenes images of the artwork, and read Masvidal's interview at THIS LOCATION.

Cynic's Ascension Codes is a remarkably far-reaching work, and if nothing else, a clear indication that they have landed in a place of mastery. The album, paradoxically, acts as both swan song and rebirth. The band has recently released the mind-bending first single, "Mythical Serpents," which can be heard at THIS LOCATION. A video for the song will be coming at a later date... stay tuned!

Track six, "Mythical Serpents," is imbued with propellant adventure, exciting peaks and valleys that tug at the heart while its mathematical sequences challenge the head in a dizzying push/pull dynamic. It’s that quintessential Cynic approach of kaleidoscopic intensity and mannered discipline. Ascension Codes was mixed and co-produced by Warren Riker, who worked with Aeon Spoke, Cynic in the Traced in Air era and mixed Paul Masvidal’s solo acoustic trilogy.

Pre-orders for 'Ascension Codes' are now live at the Season of Mist E-Shop, the CYNIC Bandcamp, and official CYNIC shop.

ICYMI: Masvidal recently shared a touching tribute to late bassist Sean Malone, who died on December 7, 2020. To commemorate Malone's legacy, CYNIC has released a never-before-heard recorded performance of the song "Integral," in which Malone performs fretless bass. "Integral" was originally released as a solo guitar and vocal track on Cynic's 'Re-Traced' EP. The emotional tribute can be found at THIS LOCATION.

As an act of support, CYNIC is inviting fans to donate as you wish for the "Integral" song download, which comes with a guitar/bass transcription of the song and an instrumental (no bass mix) to play along with. 50 percent of proceeds will be shared with suicide prevention organizations: To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) and The Trevor Project. The remaining will go towards funding a documentary about the lives and artistry of Sean Malone and Sean Reinert.

Attainment

Cynic’s continual state of development has met its share of challenges over the years, hurdles that threatened to dismantle the entity’s forward surge. Yet through hurricanes, breakups, and assorted acrimony both personal and existential, it remains inspired to create.

Their name is synonymous with what it means to be truly progressive in music. Cynic’s top-tier performance acumen and cerebral/spiritual/yogic themes finds them inhabiting a corner of the musical spectrum all their own. Their Venn diagram shows intersections with death metal, prog rock, thrash metal, experimental, new age, jazz fusion, and a myriad of other sonic expressions.

Debut album, Focus (1993), is a certified classic. Although that era ended with transformation into the short-lived Portal, and then a further splinter toward Aeon Spoke, Cynic’s reunion-era has found them embraced in a way that proves how ahead of the times they were in the ‘90s. Through monuments such as the Traced in Air (2008) and Kindly Bent to Free Us (2014) albums, the Carbon-Based Anatomy and Re-Traced EPs, and a surprising rebirth with the “Humanoid” single of 2018, the Cynic legacy remains untarnished. Yet early in the creation cycle for their fourth full-length album, they experienced horrible events that tested the entity’s resolve.

Ascension

The year 2020 will go down in history as a tremendously difficult time for the global human population. For the Cynic family, the struggle was not restricted to a pandemic. It was two utterly senseless losses that threw the band’s immediate concerns into the background: the premature deaths of drummer Sean Reinert in January, at age 48, and bassist Sean Malone in December, at age 50, were shocking and unthinkable.

Reinert, a founding Cynic member since formation in 1988, was highly influential to a multitude of young drummers. His work on 1993’s Focus and Death’s watershed 1991 album, Human, found him sculpting extreme technical metal with a jazz fusion-inspired approach. Now taken for granted, that approach to the instrument and the genre was undoubtedly pioneered in large part by Reinert. Though parting with Cynic in 2015, his imprint on Cynic is inescapable.

The death of Sean Malone dealt another horrible layer of tragedy to Cynic’s 2020. In his many years with the band, Malone’s virtuoso playing meshed intuitively with Reinert’s. Together they formed a nucleus of kinetic, highly capable rhythmic dexterity that fueled Cynic’s celestial aims.

One of these deaths would have seemed unimaginable by itself. Both of them, in the same year, nearly broke surviving member Paul Masvidal. But the seeds of a fourth Cynic full- length existed long before the deaths, and the guitarist, through a haze of grief and disbelief, pushed forward. “I wanted to make this record right after Kindly Bent to Free Us,” says Masvidal. “I was raring to go, hyper-creative, in this total flow state. And then it all imploded.”

Parts of songs were in the gestation process as early as 2014. Masvidal says that Reinert and Malone heard elements of what ended up on the fourth album. Slowly, methodically, and with much careful deliberation, Masvidal eventually completed an album titled Ascension Codes, to honor the memory of his fallen band mates. And while the album honors the lives and contributions of Reinert and Malone, it also pushes Cynic forward for its own sake and through its own will to live. The album, paradoxically, acts as both swan song and rebirth. It is, throughout its 49 minutes, a vivid and highly cosmic journey into the very core of every impulse this band has ever explored.

Offering

As of 2021, the future of Cynic is unclear. Does Ascension Codes mark their final phase of growth? Surely the music finds them laying out a most ambitious trail of spiritual sonic travel, but to call any Cynic album “ambitious” is redundant. They are, by their very nature, an ambitious band. Yet Ascension Codes is a remarkably far-reaching work. Its nine main songs are infused with explosions of color and energy, and throughout these compositions are embedded the “codes”: “Mu-54*,” “A’-va432,” “Ha-144” and so on.

Though clearly an album best listened to in its entirety without distraction, for full impact, there are definitive Cynic songs here that stand strong on their own. “Mythical Serpents” is imbued with propellant adventure, exciting peaks and valleys that tug at the heart while its mathematical sequences challenge the head in a dizzying push/pull dynamic. It’s that quintessential Cynic approach of kaleidoscopic intensity and mannered discipline.

“Diamond Light Body” brings the album to a crashing close – heavy and celestial, with some melodic sequences that feel like new territory for Cynic. An incredibly dense song with inhuman patterns from Lynch, the song’s beautiful urgency and final moments push the album outward into the heavens: “I won't feed the fear / I’ll choose a different timeline / Ascend / All is flux, nothing stands still / Ascend.”

The expanded Cynic collective maintains focus on Masvidal’s vision, each human element adding to the compelling overall result. Truly, if this is to be the final artistic stroke by Cynic, then they have landed in a place of mastery. The stories told by Focus, Traced in Air, and Kindly Bent to Free Us are now completed with Ascension Codes.

Ascension Codes is perhaps the most ethereal sounding Cynic album to date, but also skews heavier than previous album Kindly Bent to Free Us. The expanded lineup is surely responsible for the album’s far-reaching scope.

After Sean Reinert’s exit from Cynic in 2015, Masvidal and Malone recruited drummer Matt Lynch. Found through a tip from Between the Buried and Me’s Dan Briggs, Lynch proved to be a perfect addition to the band. As Masvidal notes, Lynch’s “hybrid modern style is like a fusion of drum and bass electronic music influences combined with modern jazz/prog approaches. Lynch is a true original in that he's a fully realized drummer constructing his parts as carefully as any other compositional element always is on a Cynic record. Every single accent and note coming from him is birthed from a precise and inspired place.” We hear this throughout Ascension Codes, pushing the music along with finesse, adding shape and texture in ways only the most sensitive drummers can do.

But how to replace Sean Malone on bass? Masvidal’s answer: don’t even try. The lines of bass notes heard throughout Ascension Codes are performed on bass synthesizer by keyboardist Dave Mackay. A British pianist, writer, producer and Moog/vintage synth enthusiast, Mackay has toured with everyone from Art Garfunkel to Plini (the latter providing the initial introduction between Mackay and Masvidal). Based in Los Angeles and London, Mackay’s work is sensitive to Malone’s touch, while also adding a throbbing intensity that offers Cynic new low-end possibilities. “He's got a vast jazz harmonic vocabulary,” notes Masvidal, “which is what's needed in the context of Cynic's music, especially for bass lines. I knew that I could never replace Malone. Anyone I would find would be expected to play like him, and that's not fair to another musician. And things were too fresh for me with the loss of Malone, so I had to go somewhere new. With Mackay, I heard his groovy left-hand approach, and how musical he was across the board having played with a variety of musicians and styles. I realized he would bring something fresh to the table, and he provided a space for me to start again with a completely different instrument and forgo any traditional ideas I had about what Cynic bass lines should sound like.

Ultimately Mackay delivered above and beyond, with a real awareness of a bass player's role in a progressive trio context. First, by holding down the harmony and being “in the pocket,” while also creating an independent and dynamic voice within that space. Mackay has a rare combination of skills and the vibe he locked into with Lynch with sounds like a rhythm section from the future. Plus, his Moog synth tone offers a low-end depth that’s never been heard in our recordings.” On December 5, 2019, Dave Mackay shared the stage with Paul Masvidal for a performance of the guitarist’s solo material. On bass that evening was Sean Malone. After the gig, Malone told Masvidal, “We should bring Mackay in for the new record.”

Michael Berberian, president and founder of Season of Mist Records remained close to Masvidal throughout the 2020 losses of his bandmates. Michael states “I have, by now, released close to one thousand albums. None have been more dramatic, none have even been more difficult than this one. I can’t listen to Ascension Codes without goosebumps, a mixed feeling of pride – because it’s a musical milestone, but it also contains a lingering layer of sadness. I hear Paul’s pain on this record. I can feel it, I can touch it. But it’s transcended. ‘Art is to console those who are broken by life,’ said Van Gogh. Here is a demonstration of that.”

Ascension Codes was mixed and co-produced by Warren Riker, who worked with Aeon Spoke, Cynic in the Traced in Air era, and mixed Paul Masvidal’s solo acoustic trilogy. “Riker’s a wizard who gets inside the music and commits. He expands boundaries as a mixer, always finding new ways to push the sonic envelope,” says Masvidal.

Keeping things in the family, Martina Hoffmann’s original painting entitled ‘The Landing’ graces Cynic's new album Ascension Codes with breathtaking scope and presence. The visionary work inspired by Martina's time walking the beaches of Brittany, France after the death of her longtime partner, the artist Robert Venosa (whose artwork adorns all Cynic releases between 1993 and 2018) followed by the loss of her mother, the subject of the piece features the arrival of a great mothership made of light and flesh, not machine but an organic entity that has brought hope and infinite possibilities. Masvidal says of Hoffmann, “Martina’s art has always held a special place in my heart, and I'm deeply grateful for her love and support. When I first contacted Venosa as a teenager, it was Martina who encouraged him to lend his work to the band, because she heard something in our music. She is like the divine mother in this Cynic/ Venosa lineage," Masvidal says. "Her spirit and multidimensional talents are truly a gift to this world. I feel that she is one of the great artistic voices of our age."

The struggle to attain ascension is as important as ascension itself. And after much searching, Cynic have again achieved oneness with the numinous. At a time of possible exit for the entity, Ascension Codes is Cynic reaching a previously-unknown state of enlightenment.

Credits and Lineup:

With Masvidal, Lynch and Mackay at the core, Cynic utilized a variety of other artists to help achieve their vision for Ascension Codes, some of the key players include:

DARK (Roopam Garg) performs as “code worker” on the album, providing harmonic, harp-like guitar textures. DARK also known for his other works with “The Surrealist” is an experimental, ambient artist, pushing the avant-garde guitar envelope using extended techniques and consciousness inspired soundscapes.

Max Phelps contributes “holographic-reptilian-voices” on multiple tracks. Phelps toured with Cynic in the Carbon-Based Anatomy and Kindly Bent to Free Useras, and his own progressive metal band, Exist, have released music on Prosthetic Records. Phelps also took part in Death tribute band, Death to All.

Plini guest solos on “The Winged Ones.” Plini is an an Australian guitarist and composer, producing heart-fueled, progressive instrumental rock. He opened shows for Cynic in Japan, which happened to be their final live performances as a trio with Reinert/Malone.

Additional contributors:

Anrita Melchizedek is a renowned priestess, healer, galactic ambassador, among other pursuits, and provides vocals to the opening and closing code interludes (“Mu-54*” and “Ec-ka72”). Amy Correia and Joshua Leon vocalize light language and phrases on various code interludes. Amy appeared on Traced in Air and 2011’s Carbon-Based Anatomy EP,and plays with Masvidal in the Onward with Love (OwL) project. Michael Devin plays crystal bowls on some of the code interludes. Devin is also a bassist and has played with the Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin Evening, George Lynch, and Whitesnake. Ezekiel Kaplan contributed a vocal harmony to the final track “Diamond Light Body.”

OUT TODAY: THE KUNDALINI GENIE 'First In, First Out' (Psych Rock/ Shoeg

"Wholesome. So I was bound to love them... it’s all a reverie anyway, one you don’t want to wake up from" ~ More Fuzz

"Mesmerizing... hypnotically pushes with fiery guitar cycles, shadowy bass line, muffled drum thumps, and dispassionately droning vocals... The Kundalini Genie deliver solid melody, hooks and tides of effects-pedal-induced mayhem" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"Some of the best psych rock music currently being made anywhere. The kind whose ripping tunes do a number on your head and afterwards leaves you thanking them" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"A glowing tangent of slow tripping beats, packed into kaleidoscopic soundscapes of synths, guitars and fuzzy vocals... could be an ode to the lurching ‘stoner blues’ heyday of the 90s, like Craig Nicholls, Richard Ashcroft and John Squire in bed together with fresh sheets on" ~ Urbanista Magazine

"A psychedelic rock‘n’roll band unlike any other. Spaced out drones, druggy melodies, a hammering rhythmic section and an eccentric, high octane frontman leading the charge" ~ It's Psychedelic Baby Magazine

mail-169.jpeg

Scottish psychedelic rock’n’roll outfit The Kundalini Genie has announced they will release their fifth studio album 'Half In, Half Out' by the end of 2021, following up their '11:11' album via Space Ranch Records (Europe) and Little Cloud Records (USA) in 2020. Ahead of this, they present the title track 'Half In, Half Out', a powerful offering to whet our appetites for the long-player.

The Kundalini Genie is focused around singer-songwriter Robbie Wilson (sitar, guitar, vocals) and also involves Jason Houston (guitar, vocals), Melissa Rennie(guitar, keys, vocals), Lloyd Ledingham (bass, vocals), Louis Martin (guitar, vocals) and Grant Robertson (drums).

"This song is about assholes, really. People who aren’t nice. People who think they’re better than you, or too cool for you, or higher and mightier than you, it’s also about when those people inevitably fall short of their own high opinion of themselves and make themselves look a fool, in a nutshell," says Robbie Wilson.

This album was mixed by Jason Shaw (Cambodian Space Project, Frankie Teardrop, Sonic Jesus, Aerofall) and mastered by RIDE's Mark Gardener at OX4 Sound Studio in Oxford,.

"Robbie Wilson (Kundalini Genie) is a total force and a total star in the making . He’s so driven and I loved mastering his record," says Mark Gardener.

Emerging from the nether regions of Glasgow, The Kundalini Genie has been blowing minds globally with music characterised by droning hypnotic fuzz rock, 60’s British Invasion-inspired melodies, transcendental sitar, and dreamy, spaced out soundscapes.

Their sonic journey ranges across the spectrum of their own musical influences - The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spiritualized, The Dandy Warhols, The Warlocks, The Beatles, The 13th Floor Elevators, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Black Ryder and Black Market Karma.

When not tapping into the intense space-gaze elements of Spiritualized, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Swervedriver, sauntering hypnotic guitars stride steadily forward as the sitar floats along, carrying the subconscious into a benevolent flow and inner journey.

With live shows involving eclectic displays of voodoo mojo and sound that ripples through the audience like a sonic tranquilizer, to date the band has performed in support of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Warlocks, The Underground Youth, The Myrrors, The Stevenson Ranch Davidians, Triptides, New Candysand Spindrift, in addition to participation in numerous festivals.

The 'Half In, Half Out' single is out now, available everywhere online, including Apple Music and Spotify. The full album is slated for release on November 12 digitally, on vinyl-style CD, and on aubergine-coloured 12" vinyl with reverse board artwork. It can be pre-ordered via Bandcamp, where the single is available as an instant grat download.

OUT TODAY: 'The Springs' by STAR ROVER (Americana Post-Rock)

"Vast expanses of polyrhythms and waves of sound that engulf the listener in a blazing covenant of inescapable tunefulness that crumbles sonic boundaries" ~ PopMatters

"As diverse as they are fantastic... reminiscent of TNT-era Tortoise... Sheer excellence, this is vacillating instrumental post-rock with an Americana tinge" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Quite stellar... this music lies in a beautiful no-man’s land between Tortoise, MGMT, Animal Collective and Foals" ~ The Big Takeover

"Impeccable and moving music that is this intricate, deep, shifting and tastefully orchestrated... flawless" ~ The Record Stache

"Gorgeous, astounding musical tapestry" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"Golden era post-rock mixed with sophisticated avant-pop" ~ Impose Magazine

"Ephemeral and immediate, existential yet grounded; a sort of alternative electronic folk... full of color and emotion, it resonates with the glow of an experiment gone right" ~ Atwood Magazine

NYC collective Star Rover present their new single 'The Springs', the second taster of their eponymous album 'Star Rover'. Set for release on September 30, a this is a cohesive yet eclectic statement, melding the improvisational energy of their live sets with the depth and fidelity of the studio to create something dynamic, aggressive, nostalgic and beautiful all at once.

Earlier, the duo (Will Graefe and Jeremy Gustin) presented lead track 'Ghosts of New York State', along with an animated video directed by Clara Trevisan, teasing this series of lyrically whimsical tales - half dreamscape, half reality.

"The Springs is the name of the town in Long Island where we recorded. The small beach house / studio where we recorded this music was very much a place, a refuge, an oasis etc. Some of the drawings even resemble the shape of the house. A strange beautiful connection that made everything feel that much better, and that much more finished," says Jeremy Gustin.

“Often I’ve found with music videos, the music supports the video more than the video supports the music. After sitting with this for a while, I got curious about adding some words and/or animation on top of the footage. I asked Clara Trevisan, who I’ve worked with now a few times. She’s very intuitive and I love her aesthetic. She’s a Brazilian living in in Port Alegre. She really only had the video to work off for ideas. She played with words about a place, an oasis, a refuge, being here or there, etc .. Her drawings were mostly of homes in places they may / may not be expected to be."

With the break in performances caused by the pandemic, Star Rover seized the opportunity to work on their music free of time constraints. Frequent collaborator and Grammy award-winning songwriter Jesse Harris produced the new record at his Long Island studio, a fruitful exercise of telepathic communication in spirited live takes, using those as springboards for sonic experimentation.

Working with engineer Vira Byramji, environmental sounds inspired the material. In several songs, one can even hear the buzz of insects and crashing waves in the distance, in addition to two musicians playing in a woody beach house room - no headphones, just the room.

Through early sessions playing together at Gustin's Bushwick loft in 2011, they bonded over their shared love of John Fahey, as well as the spiky post-rock of Deerhoof and Lightning Bolt. Later that year, they recorded their first record 'Western Winds Bitter Christians', a short lo-fi collection of grungy Fahey covers and distorted originals. Besides touring throughout the USA, Europe and Japan, they have both become in demand session and touring artists, working with the likes of David Byrne, Kimbra, Bill Frissel, Okkervil River, Sam Amidon, Marc Ribot, Delicate Steve and Nels Cline, among others.

Between touring and other recording work, Star Rover's writing developed towards futuristic post-rock, connected to the directness of folk melodies, leading to their 2018 album 'I May Be Lost But I'm Laughing', a more produced effort featuring such artists as Sam Evian, Shahzad Ismailly, Rob Moose (yMusic), Daniel Rossen (Grizzly Bear) and Sarah K Pedinotti.

The next year, Star Rover collaborated with Brazilian musician (and frequent Caetano Veloso collaborator) Ricardo Dias Gomes. They wrote and recorded 'This Whole Emptiness' album in Lisbon at the studio of Marcelo Camelo.

As of September 30, 'The Springs' will be available across digital platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music. The 'Star Rover' LP, released on October 15, can be ordered at https://ffm.to/starroveralbum or via Bandcamp.

ARCHSPIRE Premieres Explosive Music Video for New Song, "Drone Corpse Aviator"

Canadian tech death masters ARCHSPIRE is now unveiling their explosive new music video for their brand new single, "Drone Corpse Aviator!" The video, which was directed by Rob Zawistowski and Mitch Ray, will live premiere today, September 30, at the official Season of Mist YouTube at 11:00 A.M. PDT // 2:00 P.M. EDT! Watch and listen below.

ARCHSPIRE comments:

"CODE BLUE! CODE BLUE! We hope you have good insurance! The video for Archspire's newest single 'Drone Corpse Aviator' is basically one big malpractice suite, and these death metal guinea pigs are treated with ZERO bedside manner! The doctor is in, and he doesn't have any anesthetics (or ear protection,) so watch with caution! Post operative mortality is 100%, and all liability waivers have been signed - this is our most face melting track ever! CLEAN UP IN OPERATING ROOM 7!"

In addition to a European and UK tour this November, the band will be playing an album release show in their hometown of Vancouver, B.C. at the Rickshaw Theatre on October 30! Tickets can be found HERE.

"Drone Corpse Aviator" is taken from ARCHSPIRE's new full-length album, 'Bleed the Future,' on October 29, 2021 via Season of Mist! 'Bleed the Future' is available now for pre-orders at THIS LOCATION.

ICYMI: ARCHSPIRE also previously announced new European tour dates for November/December 2021. The band will be blasting through 12 cities at 350 bpm and a full list of confirmed shows can be viewed below. Tickets are on sale HERE.

Archspire’s JUNO-Nominated (Canadian Grammy) 2017 Relentless Mutationwas a cavalcade of speed and extremity — blasting, accelerating and, in partial reference to its title, “mutating” as each song unfolded, all the while rapid-fire, shotgun vocals blurred the lines between a man’s throat and additional instrument. It was, unquestionably, an innovation of sound and technique — Archspire had broken the speed barrier while creating songs memorable as they were unabashedly extreme for extreme metal. Thus, the pressure was already there to top Relentless Mutation when the band started to compile new songs in 2018. The global pandemic heightened the situation (read: no touring, expanded free time) and caused Archspire to turn inward and apply additional rigor to their songwriting process, albeit painstakingly so. But by the end of the fraught calendar year that was 2020, the band emerged with their fourth studio album, Bleed the Future

According to the members of Archspire — vocalist Oli Aleron, guitarists Dean Lamb and Tobi Morelli, bassist Jared Smith and drummer Spencer Prewett — they originally went into the making of Bleed the Future under the idea they would finish the album in between the various tours scheduled for 2020. Of course, none of that happened, prompting the band to do more pre-production than at any time in their career. Archspire then subjected the album’s eight songs to near-constant critiquing that ensured they came away with a product, that in their estimation, is their best to date.

“The benefit we had was that Relentless came out in 2017,” says Lamb. “Since then, we toured more than we ever did before. We had the viewpoint of ‘What do crowds like? What parts should we write more of? What parts do people give us good feedback on?’ We wanted to expand and write those parts more consistently — there are more hooks and when we do have hooks, we wanted to repeat those parts so people will know that this is the catchy part of the song.”

“The most important thing was that we had clever songwriting,” adds Prewett. “We wanted the album to be more accessible to more people but still keep it extreme, fast and technical. So, we changed our process this time. We recorded rehearsal every day and listened to what we did afterward. We’d then come back to the jam spot and change riffs and ideas based on what everyone was thinking about during the week. It resulted in an album that everyone was happier with.”

Archspire also had the stated goal for Bleed the Future that they wanted to get faster. While such a feat may defy reason given their previous output, the band wrote their fastest song to date — the album-closing “A.U.M.,” a cut that opens up with an audio recording of a German friend of Prewett’s who, according to the drummer, enjoys ragging on Archspire. Comedic clips aside, “A.U.M.,” caps off an album that pushes the boundaries of speed but also is textured — Smith’s ethereal basslines often serve as mid-song interludes, while Lamb and Morelli weave melodic, spiraling guitar lines that annihilate the fretboard during “Abandon the Linear,” “Bleed the Future” and “Acrid Canon.” Accordingly, the members of Archspire were keenly aware of the expectations placed upon them after the success of Relentless Mutation. The online comments regarding whether they could top

Relentless Mutation was also occasionally on their minds when composing Bleed the Future and prompted the band to ensure that all five members were happy with everything — down to the last riff, vocal line, bass run and drum pattern. “Audience expectation is really important,” says Lamb. “If we leave the jam spot and everyone is stoked on a song, it’s pretty likely that the audience will be stoked. We have the expectation of the audience but we also have to be pumped on the music. I feel the proudest of the music. We spent more time on the songs and got better at writing. I feel it’s better music.”

“It’s an extremely tedious writing process,” adds Smith. “If anyone isn’t feeling a riff, we scrap it and have to find something we’re all happy with. It can be super-frustrating in the moment, but in the end, we have something better. We want everything we write to be a step up and I think we achieved that with Bleed the Future.”

The album is accompanied by a concept developed by Aleron that begs the question: What happens when humans start giving birth to non-humans? Born from a weird dream the vocalist had, Bleed the Future’s concept does not have finality or a conclusion. It does, however, posit a few ethical dilemmas to ties into Archspire’s long-running science fiction themes.

“I thought about what if those things they were giving birth to could actually benefit them in the future so they wouldn’t want to reject them,” says Aleron. “What would happen to the humans that weren’t born? Would they go to a different dimension? I played with that whole idea because I hadn’t seen a horror movie where that was the theme. It worked for all the songs. The only social commentary is that people don’t know what they’re giving birth to — if you put someone on this planet, you don’t know whether they’re going to be good or evil.”

Bleed the Future was recorded in October and November 2020 at Flatline Audio in Colorado with producer/engineer Dave Otero. This was the second consecutive album the band worked with Otero. According to Morelli, the recording process was seamless. “Dave was already familiar with what we each can do individually,” he says. “This time, he was more prepared to tackle those elements. How he tracks was more focused on what we were capable of and I think it really shows here.”

As live show activity for 2021 hangs in the balance (Archspire currently has dates lined up for November), the pandemic has prompted many bands to re-think their new album release dates as well as how to stay visible in a world currently without touring. But, with a fanbase that has embraced the band’s online presence that includes playthroughs, tutorials and now, cooking shows (!), Archspire heads into the Bleed the Future album cycle the benefactors of their commitment to touring and, most of all, position as one of death metal’s most forward-thinking bands.

“We have a lot of awesome fans, so I think they’ll be there to support us and pick up the album because they like the music,” says Lamb. “We’re a self-managed band; we’ve been working with the same label for ten years and I think the outcome will be good. Would it had been better if we had been on a full North American tour starting a week before the album release? Sure, but I think people will come out and support us through other means. As soon as we’re ready to go back on tour and everybody is safe to do so, we’ll be out there.”

OUT FRIDAY: PAS MUSIQUE 'Amateur Radio' LP (electronica)

"A glitchy and eerie trip... proponents of an adventurous sonic thread, the electronic maestros we know as Pas Musique weave an instrumental path inspired by pioneers such as Zoviet France and NEU!" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Pas Musique recall an industrial that once was, such cacophonous and ominously bustling sounds from the likes of Throbbing Gristle, Zoviet France, or more modern wreckers of civilization like the Belgian duo Silk Saw" ~ PopMatters

"Constantly pushing the boundaries of electronic music... Like neurons firing impulses on all cylinders contrasted by lightly biting buzzsaw nicks, much electro-knob-twiddling and a menacing sonic undercurrent" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"Makes the incomprehensible seem familiar and easily digestible... covers an ungodly amount of musical ground without sacrificing listenability" ~ Slug Magazine

"A sonic painting where the colors have been replaced by sounds and where the style is totally abstract and into modernism" ~ Side-Line Magazine

"An appealing if appropriately bizarre flow to everything, and it would be difficult for me to call this anything less than effective sound art" ~ Scene Point Blank

Brooklyn-based Pas Musique present their new full-length album 'Amateur Radio', which also features a collaboration with Jeanne-Marie Varain, artist and daughter of FAUST's Jean-Herve Peron, on 'It’s a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl'.

These six new electronic, experimental krautrock-influenced tracks are being made available on white vinyl and digitally via NYC-based label Alrealon Musique. This is also the first time that the Faust cover, originally released on the 2019 'KRAUT! Covered' compilation curated by WFMU’s DJ Scott Williams, will be available on vinyl.

Not long ago, the band shared the tracks 'Don Cheadle Superhero', a smooth flowing futuristic motorik journey, as well as the glitchy and eerie audio-visual trip for the lead track 'Ancient Scottish Legend'.

The 'Amateur Radio' LP is mirrored by the same broadcasting term, using the radio frequency spectrum for purposes of non-commercial exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, private recreation, radio-sport, contesting, and emergency communication.

This album was inspired by the collective's U.S. tour in 2019 and recorded shortly after at Pas Musique headquarters in Brooklyn and mixed by All Real Sound. The tracks are dense and textured, mixing in field recordings captured during that U.S. tour.

Pas Musique was founded by Robert L. Pepper in 1995 as a solo project around abstract sound. It has since morphed into a collective that has gone through many variations of experimental, electronic iterations. Today Pas Musique is comprised of Jon V Worthley, Michael Durek, Jesse Fairbairn and Robert Pepper, having performed in 18 countries and collaborated with many great musicians, including Faust, Rapoon, ZEV, Philippe Petit, HATI, Chester Hawkins, Jim Tuite and many more. Pas Musique have

This album follows up 'The Phoenix' LP (2019) and 'Inside the Spectrum' (2015), the title track of which was released by Wire Magazine for its 'Wire Tapper' compilation. 2018's 'Composited Reality' was a collaboration with Rapoon, based on field recordings from the USA, UK and Indonesia.

On October 1, the 'Amateur Radio' LP will be released everywhere, including Spotify and Apple Music. It can be ordered directly from the artist on limited-edition white vinyl or as a digital download via Bandcamp.

OUT FRIDAY: 'Drone Etiquette' LP by THE PERSIAN LEAPS (indie rock/ power pop)

"Silky fuzz and solid hooks echo The Smiths, Orange Juice and Teenage Fanclub with great enthusiasm, and they never fail to recreate that celestial guitar jangle" NME Magazine

"While The Persian Leaps frontman wasn’t intentionally writing around politics, injustices, or the impending pandemic, some of those pent up agitations and reflections trickle out” ~ American Songwriter

"A little bit of R.E.M., a little bit Lemonheads. A dash of The Smiths, a hint of The Replacements. They appeal to fans of Throwing Muses and Tom Petty equally. They are the all-reaching, down to earth, good American indie rock that so many seek" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Unpretentious and infectious... vast riffs, euphonious vocals and pop sensibility. captivatingly pleasurable blustery indie rock"Louder Than War

"Truncated treatises in big-guitar post-punk power-pop"The Big Takeover

"Huge riffs echoing through your speakers, melodious vocals and the sort of pop sensibility we’ve come to expect from bands like Nada Surf"Austin Town Hall

The Persian Leaps present their new 'Drone Etiquette' album, released via Land Ski Records. Embedded on a magnetic alternative rock foundation, the latest musical output continues The Persian Leaps' tradition of producing power pop earworms with midwestern charm and an inherent element of 90s 'college rock'.

Hailing from St.Paul - Minneapolis, The Persian Leaps has gone through various lineups but has always surrounded principal songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Drew Forsberg, who explains, "The title “Drone Etiquette” came from an article about the dos and don’ts of flying remote controlled drones. However, “drone etiquette” could also describe the rules that we mindless worker drones follow in our daily lives. The cover art, which was inspired by Soviet propaganda posters, evokes our enthusiastic lockstep march towards a meaningless existence."

"This EP was an especially difficult one to record and finish. Because of the pandemic I was forced to abandon a lot of the comfortable processes I’ve used for years. The friends I collaborate with for recording and performances weren’t available in person because of health issues, so I tried a new approach. This time around, I recorded at a different studio and performed all the parts on the EP myself. I also got directly involved in editing the tracks for the first time, which took longer. Ultimately, though, I’m very happy with how the songs turned out. The EP doesn’t address the pandemic at all, but it’s very much a by-product of lockdown and what we all endured," says Forsberg.

Earlier, The Persian Leaps presented the lead track 'When This Gets Out', a song born of frustration during the Trump presidency, following up with 'Sweeps'.

The band-name 'The Persian Leaps' came to Forsberg in college while daydreaming during Greek Archaeology class. Writing solo music under that name for years, he finally assembled a band in 2012, releasing an EP every autumn until 2017. NME Magazine described their debut 'Praise Elephants' EP (2013) as “celestial guitar jangle”. From their sophomore 'Drive Drive Delay' EP in 2014 to their fifth 'Bicycle Face' EP, their music has been widely praised. Delivering one perfect power pop cocktail after another, they eventually released their 18-track 'Pop That Goes Crunch' anthology in 2018.

That year, the Leaps returned to their roots as a studio project, releasing the 'Electrical Living' LP in 2019 and the 'Smiling Lessons' EP in 2020 together with Jon Hunt, a musician and graphic designer who did the cover artwork for most of the band's releases to date. During the 2020-2021 pandemic, Forsberg recorded 'Drone Etiquette' EP as a solo effort, primarily due to lockdown limitations.

On October 1, 'Drone Etiquette' will be released on CD and online platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp.
