"A glitchy and eerie trip... proponents of an adventurous sonic thread, the electronic maestros we know as Pas Musique weave an instrumental path inspired by pioneers such as Zoviet France and NEU!" ~ The Spill Magazine
"Pas Musique recall an industrial that once was, such cacophonous and ominously bustling sounds from the likes of Throbbing Gristle, Zoviet France, or more modern wreckers of civilization like the Belgian duo Silk Saw" ~ PopMatters
"Constantly pushing the boundaries of electronic music... Like neurons firing impulses on all cylinders contrasted by lightly biting buzzsaw nicks, much electro-knob-twiddling and a menacing sonic undercurrent" ~ Big Takeover Magazine
"Makes the incomprehensible seem familiar and easily digestible... covers an ungodly amount of musical ground without sacrificing listenability" ~ Slug Magazine
"A sonic painting where the colors have been replaced by sounds and where the style is totally abstract and into modernism" ~ Side-Line Magazine
"An appealing if appropriately bizarre flow to everything, and it would be difficult for me to call this anything less than effective sound art" ~ Scene Point Blank
Brooklyn-based Pas Musique present their new full-length album 'Amateur Radio', which also features a collaboration with Jeanne-Marie Varain, artist and daughter of FAUST's Jean-Herve Peron, on 'It’s a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl'.
These six new electronic, experimental krautrock-influenced tracks are being made available on white vinyl and digitally via NYC-based label Alrealon Musique. This is also the first time that the Faust cover, originally released on the 2019 'KRAUT! Covered' compilation curated by WFMU’s DJ Scott Williams, will be available on vinyl.
Not long ago, the band shared the tracks 'Don Cheadle Superhero', a smooth flowing futuristic motorik journey, as well as the glitchy and eerie audio-visual trip for the lead track 'Ancient Scottish Legend'.
The 'Amateur Radio' LP is mirrored by the same broadcasting term, using the radio frequency spectrum for purposes of non-commercial exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, private recreation, radio-sport, contesting, and emergency communication.
This album was inspired by the collective's U.S. tour in 2019 and recorded shortly after at Pas Musique headquarters in Brooklyn and mixed by All Real Sound. The tracks are dense and textured, mixing in field recordings captured during that U.S. tour.
Pas Musique was founded by Robert L. Pepper in 1995 as a solo project around abstract sound. It has since morphed into a collective that has gone through many variations of experimental, electronic iterations. Today Pas Musique is comprised of Jon V Worthley, Michael Durek, Jesse Fairbairn and Robert Pepper, having performed in 18 countries and collaborated with many great musicians, including Faust, Rapoon, ZEV, Philippe Petit, HATI, Chester Hawkins, Jim Tuite and many more. This album follows up 'The Phoenix' LP (2019) and 'Inside the Spectrum' (2015), the title track of which was released by Wire Magazine for its 'Wire Tapper' compilation. 2018's 'Composited Reality' was a collaboration with Rapoon, based on field recordings from the USA, UK and Indonesia.
On October 1, the 'Amateur Radio' LP will be released everywhere, including Spotify and Apple Music. It can be ordered directly from the artist on limited-edition white vinyl or as a digital download via Bandcamp.
