Written and recorded during late 2020 and early 2021, "Checkered Past" sees Tracii Guns, Phil Lewis, and company continuing with the darker lyrical tone of the preceding studio albums, "The Devil You Know" and "The Missing Peace", while incorporating their classic rock influences into the mix. Heavier songs are mixed with bluesier, boogie inducing tracks and dark, introspective ballads, often harkening back to the first three albums the band made, but also pushing the band forward. When fans absorb the album as a whole, they'll see that the tracklisting is divided up into 'sets' or 'suites', where a sonic style is explored across multiple songs before moving on to the next, making for a remarkable listening experience.

L.A. Guns never looked like the pretty poster boys that so many of their peers did, but more the band that you would be terrified to bump into in an alley as they would likely be carrying switchblades and ready for a fight. But despite having many songs to back up that image, the band could also write powerful ballads (see the smash hit, “The Ballad Of Jayne” for Exhibit A of this argument) that showed there were some serious songwriting chops in the band. Those chops are on full display on the band's two most recent studio albums and the upcoming new album, "Checkered Past," arguably one of the most vital and exciting releases in the band’s catalog.

Alt-Metal Outfit SET THE SUN Release Debut Single "Invisible" feat. Ryan Clark of Demon Hunter

American-Canadian Alt-Metal outfit SET THE SUN have released the first single from their upcoming debut EP. The duo, known as Arc & Eris, wrote and recorded the record during last year's lockdown, which inspired them to delve into themes of isolation, division, and unspoken conflict on their first studio offering. The first taste of the new record comes via the new single "Invisible", which boasts guest vocals from Ryan Clark of Demon Hunter, as well as Thomas Freckleton from Silent Planet playing bass on the track.

Listeners can expect to see plenty of familiar guest artists on upcoming music from Set The Sun, as the group will often collaborate with a group of fellow musicians that they refer to as The Collective. Speaking about his involvement with the single "Invisible", Ryan Clark states:

"I believe collaboration at its best stems from mutual appreciation. When I first spoke with—and listened to—Set The Sun in the summer of 2020, it was clear that our collective interests and influences were aligned. I’m very particular with modern heavy music and I’m not often impressed with the trajectory of the genre. STS, however, has all of the components that excite me: major riffs, beautiful melodies, lush electronic textures, slick execution, and more. They’re heavy but not one-dimensional, progressive but not overly self-indulgent."

Clark adds, "These guys tick all the boxes for me, so collaboration felt natural. I’m honored to be a part of the band’s introduction to the world, stoked for the opportunity to contribute to a song that I genuinely love, and pleased to work with such talented and humble individuals."

Reflecting on Ryan's contributions to "Invisible", the band shares:

"With STS being a two-person writing team, we always enjoy taking a song to an outside artist to add new dimensions to it. We've been fans of Demon Hunter and Ryan's work for a long time and felt he would be perfect for this song, so we got in touch with him late last year. When we sent him the song last December to add his parts, it was such an easy and pleasant experience. Ryan knew exactly what to add to take the song to the next level. We're thrilled with how it turned out and can't wait to collaborate with him again!"

The song which was produced, engineered, co-written and co-sung by Esjay Jones, the mastermind behind We Are Pigs, and was inspired by the HBO show “Euphoria.” As Jones says, “I was deeply troubled by its graphic and raw portrayal of sex, drugs, identity, social media and the difficulties of navigating life as a teenager today as seen on the sow. It was hard to watch. I spoke to Brian about the concept – initially thinking the message was, the ‘kids AREN’T alright,’ but as we started working together, we wanted to spread positivity, hope and purpose to youth with our words, and ‘kids are alright’ became the mantra.”

Adds Brian “Head” Welch, "Giving advice to young musicians over the years, the number one thing I tell them is to strive for uniqueness! There are so many copycats out there and the bands that stand out the most and have longevity all have a unique sound and quality to them that make them unforgettable and loved by many. We are PIGS are so unique! When Esjay sent me the track for ‘Kids,’ I was instantly in love with it! This band doesn’t sound like any other artist out there and I’m so honored Esjay asked me and JR Bareis to be a part of this track!”

Speaking of his reaction to the song, Corbin Dooley, creative director of Bikiniwax Records, says, “’Kids’ potently stimulates the vagus nerve with powerfully forward metal instrumentation, explosive melodies and hypnotically engaging vocal production. This absolutely masterful interpretation effectively dismantles my genre expectations.”

Part of the proceeds from the sale of “Kids” will be donated to organizations We Are Moving The Needle and The Whosoevers Movement aimed at uplifting, empowering and providing education and purpose for today’s youth.

Couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into the hymn-like masterpiece and try some vocal ideas in my temporary studio built in the bathroom. This song became the opening track on the upcoming tour and created one of the coolest show openings ever when the draw bridge slowly started to come down during the pulsating intro to the song.”

Canadian post-punk rising stars TRAITRS present their new single 'Mouth Poisons', the new taster of their forthcoming long-player 'Horses In The Abattoir', to be released in mid-November via Freakwave, a Berlin-based label that is part of the Schubert Music Europe group, with distribution by The Orchard. Not long ago, the duo released the single 'Oh, Ballerina'. with a short moody art-house horror film meets 80’s new wave music video, directed and edited by Shawn Tucker.

Recorded by and produced with Josh Korody (F*cked Up, Japandroids, Dilly Dally, Beliefs, Nailbiter) at Candle Recording Studio, the new output was mastered by Pete Maher (U2, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Prince, Linkin Park, Katy Perry).

Based in Toronto, TRAITRS was formed in 2015 by Sean-Patrick Nolan and Shawn Tucker. With a cinematic blend of post-punk, goth, alternative and post-rock, their emotive melodies, propulsive rhythms, angular guitars and dark cinematic electronics quickly led to the duo becoming one of the dark music scene's fastest rising independent artists.

“The core sketch of this song was written late at night at a very good friend’s place in Frankfurt, Germany. ‘Mouth Poisons’ is an extremely personal song and lyrically I set myself up as the main target. It carries an air of ‘come see what’s going inside of me that wants to burn down everything in sight’. Definitely my favourite single we have ever released to date," says Shawn Tucker.

“‘Mouth Poisons’ was initially supposed to be a fast, angular punk track and it remained in this form for several months until Shawn wrote the bass guitar part and completely changed the way I heard the song. His melodic bass line brought out a sadness and vulnerability in the track that I didn’t know was there. All of a sudden this frantic punk song sounded more like The Smiths or New Order, so I completely rewrote my synth part to tease out those elements even more. The break before the outro is one of my favourite parts on the album," says Sean-Patrick Nolan.

Early demos, recorded with Josh Korody, led to TRAITRS' 2016 debut cassette 'Rites And Ritual' with Pleasence Records. After gaining traction in Europe and North America, TRAITRS released their critically acclaimed 'Butcher’s Coin' LP via Pleasence Records / Manic Depression Records / Alchera Visionsin 2018. Bolstered by lead single ‘Thin Flesh’, the duo embarked on several lengthy tours overseas, performing in over a dozen countries with showcases at Wave Gothik Treffen, Castle Party, Extramuralhas, Nocturnal Culture Night, Wavefest, Canadian Music Week and Pop! Montreal.

Their relentless touring schedule and work ethic caught the attention of Thomas Thyssen and Eric Burton of Schubert Music Publishing and, in October 2020, they announced TRAITRS as the first signing to their brand-new record label Freakwave Records.

With the preceding limited 10’’ vinyl ‘The Sick, Tired And Ill’, which practically sold-out before its actual release, TRAITRS were able to triple their Spotify monthly listeners to >33k. In addition, lead single 'Magdalene' spent 5 consecutive weeks at #1 on the German Alternative Charts (DAC).

One of the biggest names in modern hardcore, Comeback Kid has released the fast-paced, riff-heavy banger “No Easy Way Out”. The track, which was recorded in Winnipeg, MB at Private Ear Recordingstudio, is the first new original music to be heard from the influential hardcore/punk outfit since their 2017 release Outsider. "This was an attempt to conjure up an edge of your seat rhythm that stays the course but builds intensity the whole way through until the end,” said lead vocalist Andrew Neufeld. “The feeling of looking over your shoulder and running for dear life. Accompanying the single is an age-restricted music video conceptualized and directed by Kevin Keegan. Amplifying the tracks feeling of needing to escape but also running into the realization that that may be harder than what it seems, the video for “No Easy Way Out” is a captivating comedic mini-thriller that sees the band being chased by a psycho kidnapper in a forest in Western Canada.

COMEBACK KID is heading out on the road this fall! They will make an appearance in Nashville at Studio 615 with TERROR before playing Furnace Fest in Alabama and The Fest in Florida, The following month they kick-off their East coast tour with STRIKE ANYWHERE on November 1st in Atlanta and make stops in Richmond, Baltimore, and Philadelphia before concluding in Boston on November 7th!

Over the last twenty years, COMEBACK KID has been hailed as one of the major counterparts when it has come to shaping and pioneering both the Canadian and international modern punk and hardcore sound and scene alike.

Having formed in Winnipeg, before later releasing their 2002 demo, and the acclaimed, Turn It Around in 2003 via California’s Facedown Records, the five-piece have undoubtedly over the years been able to balance a DIY ethos and dependability, with that of a humanitarian ethos, and genre-defining musicianship which has broken down the boundaries of hardcore and transcended the genre onto a global stage.

Breaking into the mainstream with 2005’s career-defining, Wake The Dead, COMEBACK KID broke boundaries and both literally and musically stormed across new terrains, projecting the once underground genre on a globally touring scale alongside the likes of then Victory Records label mates, EARTHCRISIS, TERROR, and REFUSED.

Standing strong in the face of adversity and change, it would be 2007’s Broadcasting that would elucidate both COMEBACK KID’s and the new sonic soundscape of 21st-century punk music with vocalist Scott Wade stepping down and powerhouse, Andrew Neufeld taking over on vocal duties.

“We’re a hardcore band, but we don’t feel like we belong to any particular sect of that,” states Neufeld alongside band members, Jeremy Hiebert (guitar, FIGURE FOUR), Stu Ross (guitar, MISERYSIGNALS), Chase Brenneman (bass, LIVING WITH LIONS), and Loren Legare (drums, LIVING WITH LIONS). “We don’t want to be limited in any sense and prefer to work on our own terms.”

Now one of the most volatile leaders within the global heavy music community, and carrying the torch of igniting endless genres through playing with both sheer speed and force. Arguably 2017’s Outsider would pioneer a new path in which COMEBACK KID would forge for some of today’s new heavyweights to follow, cementing the band’s status as one of the most revolutionary forefathers to carry the genre into the future.

Now with their seventh record on the horizon, the band is defining what it means to be both an integral, yet impressive unit within both the foundation and edges of punk.

ISRAELI ROCKERS WALKWAYS UNVEIL NEW SINGLE, “YOU FOUND ME,”

Alt-metallists, Walkways, has returned with a brand new single, “You Found Me.” Hailing from Tel Aviv, Israel, the band – Ran Yerushalmi (vocals), Bar Caspi (guitar), Yoni Menner (guitar), Avihai Levy (bass), and Priel Horesh (drums) – will also soon be returning to the concert stage, including a headline show on Sept. 27 at Barby Club in Tel Aviv, plus headlining the Kineret Open Air festival in Israel on Oct. 22-23.

"‘You Found Me’ is a song telling the story of how after a devastating betrayal in a past relationship,” explains Ran. “I lost myself completely in rage and overwhelming urges for revenge. I lost all ability to love, or be romantic in any way, let alone care about anyone or anything. Then came the woman who later became my wife - she was strong enough and cared enough to be there for me and love me through my lowest points and slowly teach me to love and be truly happy again. The song is written to her. This song is also a message to remind people who are down, depressed, heartbroken, or going through hard times - it always gets better. Stay strong through the tough times and look for the positive light to help you through them.”

The singer also had this to say about the song’s striking video. “The video was shot over a span of a couple days in a beautiful music studio in Jerusalem, and several locations throughout Israel. As a part of trying to maintain our DIY mindset, half of the video shots, and all of the editing was done in-house by the band itself. It was very weird for us to play seated, we are used to performing and shooting videos standing up, but the warmth of the studio and the vibe of this song went perfectly with this approach.”

Walkways' most recent album, ‘Bleed Out, Heal Out,’ was released in 2019 on Nuclear Blast Records, receiving striking reviews in various international magazines and music blogs. ‘Bleed Out, Heal Out’ displays a unique mix of alternative metal and metalcore, a style that combines heavy riffs and soft parts, emotional melodies and a wide range of vocal styles. The album was self-produced by the band, mixed by the band’s very own Priel Horesh, and mastered by Ermin Hamidovich at Systematic Productions.

Italian singer-songwriter JATA (aka Gaetano Russo) presents his debut EP under this moniker via Seahorse Recordings, released on October 1.

With a sound influenced by Depeche Mode, Planet Funk, Almamegretta, Blonde Redhead, Arcade Fire, Editors, Interpol and Block Party, JATA essentially reinvented his sound In the process of writing and recording this EP, exploring the use of electronics and early sampling technique, in a mix of pop catchy groove and harmonies.

Earlier, he presented the title track 'Crazy Game of Phobias'. With a particular Depeche Mode-flavor, this is a statement on the phobia about social contact that has developed throughout the current pandemic, lockdowns and social distancing rules.

JATA explores one of the most negative effects generated by the pandemic - the phobia people hav developed about social contact, stemming from the distancing rules and lockdowns, not to mention constant media hype. His lyrics emphasize the need to reclaim our greatest and most significant human trait - the need for socializing and contact.

Taking us on a captivating electronic journey between the 80s and the present day, 'Crazy Game of Phobias' is a sonic springboard, from which you can explore one or more destinations of positive rediscovery, resilience, personal and collective rebirth - inherent human traits that can be drawn to the surface through a path of sensation and atmosphere.

"The EP's leitmotif starts with the current pandemic and the changes this new era has brought to the world. With its huge global impact, this crisis has encouraged me to think about how unstable and unpredictable our life is and how important it is to have the right approach to change," says Gaetano Russo.

The concepts of resilience, future vision and goals, personal growth and discovering loved ones are issues presented from my personal point of view. Iconic post-punk / darkwave outfit Pink Turns Blue has released their new 'Tainted' album via Orden Records, the result of time well spent during a lockdown year - writing, recording, mixing and mastering the new album in their Berlin recording studio. They also present their new video for 'Not Even Trying', a lament for a wasting planet.

On ‘Tainted’, the band added an electronic element to their classical vocals, guitar, bass and drums. The album title itself relates to the state of our world: climate change, its effects, the reaction to it, the split within society, isolation, health risks and financial uncertainty.

“When I travel the world, I encounter two types of people. Many are sad and void of hope that mankind is able to change. Others just don’t care or are sarcastic about just everything. I guess this makes me angry. I see all those toddlers with their lives before them, playing and laughing and inheriting a world in disarray just because of the greediness and irresponsibility of their parents. A call to try so much harder! Instead of using excuses for missing or inadequate action, mankind really has to get its shit together – now," says Mic Jogwer.

"Obviously, young people seem to realize the cost of our shortcomings much better: all the carelessness about using resources, polluting the environment, the threatening effects of global warming, a poisoned environment and extinct species. They are at the beginning of their lives and the world is in crisis already. But most of us are using excuses or alibi “actions” to cover up our indifference or complacency. We pursue our own advantage at the expense of others even if the calculation does not add up in the end: if we don’t incorporate sustainability in our actions all will lose.”

Las Vegas act Velvet Chains launches debut album Icarus

Las Vegas group leads a new generation of American hard rock

The band Velvet Chains, which has been gaining international highlight and had excellent repercussion in South America and Mexico, launches its debut album entitled “Icarus”. The work has 10 songs, including the singles “Tattooed” and “Strangelove”, and is now available on all streaming platforms.

The first single “Tattooed” was highlighted in the media by the special guest appearance of Guns N’ Roses guitarist Richard Fortus. The song received an impressing music video, directed by the experienced Dean Karr, who worked with music giants such as Ozzy Osbourne, Velvet Revolver and Iron Maiden. The second single, “Strangelove”, kept the audience's attention, and both tracks got more than 150,000 streams in just a few days.

The album also features guest appearances by Jeff Rouse (bass) and Mike Squires (guitar), both from Duff McKagan's LOADED, on the catchy “Pass the Disease” which also have a beautiful lyric video.

“Icarus” is an intimate and emotional album, written in partnership with multi-platinum composer Drew Lawrence. Recording took place in Las Vegas and Seattle, sound engineering work was carried out by Greg Williamson, while Tristan Hardin did the mixing and mastering.

From Las Vegas to the World

The band Velvet Chains was formed in the American city of Las Vegas in 2018, and “Icarus” is their first album.

The group's musical proposal placed them as one of the highlights of the new generation of American hard rock, by uniting breathtaking tempos, a solid rhythmic section and catchy melodies, the kind that stick in your head.

Guided by what was best done in the grunge and hard rock of the 90s and 00s, Velvet Chains has as reference groups such as Guns N 'Roses, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam, among many others from different styles, whose elements are condensed to create a unique and characteristic sound of the style that changed the way young people listen to rock music.

The lyrical content along with the musical quality is another important factor for Velvet Chains: "Our goal was to write songs with important lyrics while covering different genres within Rock from the 90s to the 00s. You will find a bit of heavy rock, a bit of grunge, a bit of alternative rock, and much more on this album”, explains Nils, founder of the band.

Dutch Black Metal Duo DOODSWENS Announce Debut Album 'Lichtvrees' - Out December 3rd on Svart Records

Svart Records is proud to announce the debut album from Dutch female Black Metal duo DOODSWENS! The record, titled 'Lichtvrees' (translation: fear of light), will be unleashed on December 3rd via CD and digital platforms, with vinyl soon following on January 14th, 2022.

Doodswens Black Metal is a bleak, distorted wave of negative energy according to the tenets set by the Scandinavian originators but with their own new organic reflection of darkness. Their name translating to the term “Death Wish,” Doodswens breathe new life into the dust of the past, inspired by the rawness of the ‘90s and capturing the black hearts of a new throng of acolytes as they ignite the gloom.

Founded in Eindhoven in 2017 by Fraukje van Burg (vocals and guitar) and Inge van der Zon (drums), Doodswens initially erupted into the underground scene in 2019 with their demo, which sent a shiver through its decaying corpse. With their debut album 'Lichtvrees', Doodswens opens up the cesspit of the human condition, giving voice to our bleakest emotions through old-school Black Metal like a freshly dug grave. Proudly expressing feelings of inner negativity and depression, Doodswens have taken the promise of their underground roots and crystallized their very own atmospheric war of

sound on “Lichtvrees,” making it an enthralling and captivating inception.

Aggression Continuum features guitarist, songwriter, and co-founder Dino Cazares; drummer Mike Heller; and former vocalist, lyricist, and co-founder Burton C. Bell. It was produced and engineered by Damien Rainaud(DRAGONFORCE, ONCE HUMAN), with keyboards by Igor Khoroshev (ex-YES), and programming on two songs from longtime collaborator Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY). The album also featured additional keyboards handled by Max Karon and Giuseppe Bassi. Aggression Continuum was mixed by A-list rock and metal producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, TRIVIUM), who also mixed the album’s critically-acclaimed predecessor, Genexus. The artwork for the album was created by Francesco Artusato.
