Los Angeles-based alt-rock outfit DEAD POET SOCIETY have released the video for their song "I never loved myself like I loved you," which is featured on their debut album -!- (said as "The Exclamation Album."). Watch it below
The video is an impromptu, one-take affair, which sees lead singer Jack Underkofler slowly unravel as he walks the streets of L.A.. Like much of -!-, the video highlights the emotional and self-reflective adversity that the band exercises through their music.
"This video was completely shot by accident," the band explains. "We were in the process of pre-production, getting test shots with our iPhones. We improvised a possible scene and ended up capturing a moment that resonated with us all so strongly that we felt we had to release it as the actual video itself. It's not perfect in terms of its aesthetic or technical value, but the imperfection is what this song is about. For us, this video captured the exact emotions and feelings that went into writing this song, and that's what matters."

Dead Poet Society are receiving some well-deserved recognition on the strength of their new album. Jeffrey Nothing is the co-founder and former haunting voice behind Clevelandâs MUSHROOMHEAD. His distinct vocals had driven Mushroomheadâs frightening and extreme performance style, garnered them an enormously devoted cult following, and helped them to sell millions of albums worldwide. Nothing has teamed up with fellow former MUSHROOMHEAD guitarist Thomas Churchfollowing their departure from the band in March of 2018. Barely in his teens, this young musician from Southern New England is here to prove that children can not only perform as a musician, but be a successful songwriter as well. With his intricate Progressive Rock songs that include odd time signatures and unique instrumentation he has captured the attention of fans as well as professional musicians.
Thomas began his journey as a musician when he started drum lessons at age five. He started playing in a performance band by age eight at School of Rock, and it was there that Thomas was inspired to start songwriting himself. At age 10 years old, Thomas released his first single, and he was awarded a prize in the Eventide Theater Songwriting competition. Thomas has also been featured on the British Prog Rockblog, participated in radio and Podcast interviews, and landed the cover of American Pride Magazine. He also has achieved three Number One hits on the independent music chart The Fabchart.
His love of Progressive Rock bands like Sons of Apollo, Dream Theater and Toolpermeate his songwriting. In fact, Thomas grabbed the attention of the âKing of Keyboardsâ Derek Sherinian (Sons of Apollo member; ex Dream Theater; Alice Cooper, etc) with his songs. Thomas has written several songs that feature one of his musical idols Derek Sherinian on keyboards. Not only has Derek contributed to Thomasâ songs but has produced them as well.
This superstar collaboration has solidified for Thomas to continue on the path as a musician and songwriter. Becoming a professional musician, performing live, and Prog Rock songwriting are his musical goals. Since age 12, his original music is published on all streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple and Amazon. Thomas also is a member of the high IQ society Mensa.

Keith Wallen is a dynamic guitarist and vocalist, a passionate live performer, and a diverse songwriter. As guitarist and backing vocalist, heâs brought his tireless enthusiasm to Breaking Benjamin since the multi platinum rock bandâs 2014 reformation, appearing on Dark Before Dawn (2015) and Ember (2018), as well as countless worldwide tours.
As solo singer, songwriter, and performer, Keith explores everything from melancholy balladry to inventively re-imagined pop music. He draws upon a deep well of experience and inspiration. About the song and video
A head-on groovy rock song with a party mood and high sing-along factor.
The song is based on a older guitar riff that was updated for a more modern purpose.
We used the same two girls in this video as in the previous one âDevilâs Callingâ, both our trademark âFallen Angelâ in white (the evil angel) and the girl who is usually our Black Angel (the good angel) but in this video is the âParty Girlâ.
The theme of the song and video is that we all should get a bit crazy once in a while â just because we can. No serious messages, just having fun in the name of rockân roll. The video was record at Slagthuset in Malmö (Sweden), which is big venue used for both live concerts and exhibitions.
The guitars that were used in the recording were an old Ibanez Destroyer (Björn) and Gibson Les Paul (Hal) together with a classic vintage Marshall amp and speakers from the early 70âs. The guitars are tunes in a 5-semitone-drop which means that a regular E-string becomes a B-tone, and an A-string becomes an E tone. This creates a heavier and more dynamic rock sound but also requires thicker strings (011-052) to be able to carry the lower tones well.
The guitars were recorded in 6-dubbed stereo with Tri-Chorus and Delay, which created the massive and broad sound in the song.
For the vocals we used the amazing Swedish microphone Ehrlund, with an Audio Tube Pre-amp, Audio Tube Compressor and Urei 546 Equalizer.

GREEN LUNG premiere second single from forthcoming album, 'Black Harvest'
GREEN LUNG have today premiered the second single to be taken from their forthcoming new album, Black Harvest. Reaper's Scythe is premiering now via The Obelisk, and will be available on all streaming platforms from this Friday, July 30. Black Harvest will be released this autumn via Svart Records, and the first single, Leaders of the Blind, is streaming everywhere now. Black Harvest will be available on heavy weight vinyl, CD and digital formats, and is available to pre-order here ahead of its release on October 22.
Singer, Tom Templar, commented: âSome key elements of Reaper's Scythe were actually written when we were putting together our first EP Free the Witch, but we couldn't quite find a way to bring them together. Soon after Woodland Rites came out we were playing around in our studio and added a sinister intro and an epic King Diamond-esque middle 8, and suddenly it all clicked. It's the first song we've written with that old school Maiden gallop, and horror fans will spot lots of references in the lyrics, from the familiar (Stephen King's Children of the Corn) to the obscure (Thomas Tryon's Harvest Home). It's fast becoming our favourite song to play in the practice space. We can't wait to unleash it live!'.â
Recorded at Giant Wafer Studios in rural mid-Wales over the course of two weeks with longtime producer Wayne Adams (Petbrick, Big Lad), before being mastered by John Davis at Metropolis (Led Zeppelin, Royal Blood), Black Harvestis a more expansive and textured record than anything the band have done before, boasting a cinematic quality and more attention to detail. All samples were sourced from the local countryside and from instruments found in the studio, including the haunting opening vocal of The Harrowing which was recorded on a whim after the band broke into the local church (the organ can be heard creaking in the background).
Picking up where the self-released Woodland Rites left off, on Black Harvest GREEN LUNG continues to draw inspiration from Britain's rich history of folklore, from witchcraft and from cultish horror films. Nature - as always - is woven into the fabric of the songs; this time around the album was recorded in late autumn, and the seasonal atmosphere seeped into the music, which is redolent of mists, falling leaves, and the crumbling glory of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries of London, the city the band calls home.

There are plenty of reasons why Rockânâ Rolf Kasparek is so happy with BLOOD ON BLOOD. Says Rolf: âWe all know the difficulties the cultural sector was faced with during the lockdown. On the other hand, it also gave me and many other artists some extra time since most releases had to be postponed. I used that time to fine-tune every little detail of my new material. The result is an album that in my opinion is probably the best in Running Wild`s career to date. Every one of the ten songs sounds exactly as I had it in mind when I composed it. Iâve never been happier with a Running Wild record before.â So, with no further details available at this point, fans of the German metal legend can look forward to 29 October 2021, when BLOOD ON BLOOD will be out on Steamhammer/SPV. Those who canât wait should mark 13 August in their diaries, when the lead single âDiamonds & Pearlsâ will arrive at the digital stores, followed by the second single âThe Shellbackâ on 24 September 2021. Could there be any better news for Running Wild disciples?
Well, possibly the news below, which will also reveal some of the aforementioned details: Rolf justly describes BLOOD ON BLOOD as the most diverse offering he has released so far, not only in terms of the compositions but also as far as the production is concerned. âEvery song has its own unmistakable sound,â explains the Running Wild captain. âAlthough I recorded the rhythm guitar parts with my 1976 Gibson Explorer as usual, the other parts were cut with a Gibson Flying V, a Fender Stratocaster and even â the undistorted parts â with a Fender American Standard Telecaster.â A prime example being âOne Night, One Dayâ, which owes its great depth to its clean guitar performance. Rolf is referring to a song that is guaranteed to cause a stir with its anthemic direction and unusual arrangements: âFor me, this track was a little experiment that I`ve never dared to try before, because âOne Night, One Dayâ doesn`t have the typical intro-verse-chorus structure, instead gradually building up throughout the song.â
The grooving âThe Iron Times (1618 - 1648)â, a worthy album finale, is just as remarkable, with its eleven minutes of playing time the longest track on the disc, and thanks to its lyric about the Thirty Yearsâ War also one of the most ambitious numbers. Speaking of lyrics: âWings Of Fireâ and âSay Your Prayersâ are about prophecies, albeit not â as on many other releases â the prophecies of Nostradamus, but â among others â the prophecies of John of Jerusalem, the French Knight Templar and co-founder of the Order of the Knights Templar, who predicted organ trafficking back in the Middle Ages. Historically no less interesting, âCrossing The Bladesâ sees Running Wild broach the story of the three musketeers from the 17th century, their emblem having been recreated on the cover artwork, once again designed by Jens Reinhold (Virgin Steele, Freedom Call, among others). Rolf: âIt`s a kind of hybrid between the cross of the musketeers and our mascot, Adrian.â
Despite these lyrical ambitions, BLOOD ON BLOOD also features two âparty rock numbersâ, as Rolf likes to refer to them: âWild & Freeâ and âWild, Wild Nightsâ, which are meant to be pure fun, fulfilling their mission to a tee. And last but not least, thereâs âThe Shellbackâ, a track in typical Running Wild style that starts with a Celtic-inspired intro, Running Wild revisiting the atmospheric seafaring theme of their 1994 classic BLACK HAND IN, a prequel of that maritime story. Equally characteristic of the band, which, in addition to Rolf, guitarist Peter Jordan and bassist Ole Hempelmann, has since 2019 included drummer Michael Wolpers, who contributed all the drum parts on the new disc, are the lead single âDiamonds And Pearlsâ (including lyric video) and the title track, incidentally the first number Rolf wrote for the new album.
Returning to the prophecy theme, you don't have to be a prophet to be able to anticipate the gleam in the eyes of all Running Wild fans. There can be no doubt about it: BLOOD ON BLOOD presents Running Wild at their best!

British underground music veterans The Speed Of Sound have announced the autumn release of their fifth studio album 'Museum of Tomorrow', to be issued on CD and Deluxe LP via California's Big Stir Records, 32 years to the day the band released their debut EP back in 1989.
Ahead of this, the band reveal the lead track 'Tomorrow's World' as a sweet taster of what's in store for listeners, along with an animated video. The entire 21st century seems to have been mis-sold. This song is a cry of anguish and a re-statement of what should have been. Twelve multilayered synthesizer tracks recreate a flying saucer landing at the end and the ultra-depth in the sound is from bowed bass on the verse-ends and pre-chorus.
From the opening line âWe were offered Star Trek, but they fed us Soylent Greenâ - which is etched into the vinyl - science fiction abounds within the music, positioning The Now simultaneously in the Future and in the Past. We all exist on the edge of forever.
Conceived as two seamless sides, the vinyl edition of this record was mastered as two complete extended pieces: Gallery One and Gallery Two. Korg synthesiser lines, reminiscent of classic Science Fiction incidental music and sound-collages, link the gapless songs.
To date, The Speed of Sound has released eight singles via Big Stir, but 'Museum of Tomorrow' is an all-new experience. While each of these 13 new songs could have been a single, they are gathered in an organically homogeneous collection, showcased within the 'Museum Of Tomorrow'. This is an album made manifest by and for people who like albums.
This is future retro modern music, rooted in a definite 60âs influence but with an 80âs twist. Influenced by The Byrds, Small Faces, The Chords, Siouxsie & The Banshees and XTC, with female and male vocals, The Speed Of Sound merges the power of punk with the floating harmonies of The Byrds. Their sound and alphabetical order places them between Sonic Youth and Dusty Springfield.
The Speed Of Sound formed in Manchester in 1989 with a pre-history dating directly back to the day Andy Warhol died in 1987. Dwelling deep below the âmusic industry radarâ has allowed for the evolution of their own distinct sound, their live act often described totally differently with comparisons from The Stranglers and Television to Jefferson Airplane and The Who.
The Speed Of Sound has continuously produced music that is optimistic and with lyrical bite, a punk-inspired DIY ethos and lust for experimentation rooted in psychedelia. While players have come and gone, the current lineup has largely been the same for four years, including father and son John Armstrong (guitars and vocals) and Henry Armstrong (keyboards), Ann-Marie Crowley (vocals and guitar), Kevin Roache (bass guitar) and John Broadhurst (drums).
'Tomorrow's World' is out on August 14 and will be available via Apple Music and Spotify. On September 17, the 'Museum of Tomorrow' LP will be released digitally, on CD and limited-edition 170g heavy weight vinyl with a choice between black and glorious colour. Vinyl orders include a 16-page full-colour A5 printed Exhibition Guide containing lyrics, full-colour inner sleeve, a separate picture insert, a sticker, a pair of badges/buttons and a bookmark. Brooklyn-based Pas Musique have announced they will release a new long-player, titled 'Amateur Radio'. With six new electronic, experimental krautrock-influenced tracks, this one will be available on white vinyl and digitally via NYC-based label Alrealon Musique.
Ahead of this, they present the lead track 'Ancient Scottish Legend', taking you on an glitchy and eerie audio-visual trip. Jeanne-Marie Varain, artist and daughter of Jean-Herve Peron of Faust, also collaborates on a cover of 'Itâs a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl'. This Faust cover, developed in 2019 for the 'KRAUT! Covered' compilation curated by WFMUâs DJ Scott Williams, is now available for the first time on white vinyl.
The 'Amateur Radio' LP is mirrored by the same broadcasting term, using the radio frequency spectrum for purposes of non-commercial exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, private recreation, radio-sport, contesting, and emergency communication.
This album was inspired by the collective's U.S. tour in 2019 and recorded shortly after at Pas Musique headquarters in Brooklyn and mixed by All Real Sound. The tracks are dense and textured, mixing in field recordings captured during that U.S. tour.
Founded by Robert L. Pepper in 1995, Pas Musique emerged from Brooklyn as a solo project around abstract sound. It has since morphed into a collective that has gone through many variations of experimental, electronic iterations. Today Pas Musique is a four-piece consisting of Jon V Worthley, Michael Durek, Jesse Fairbairn and Robert Pepper. North Carolina's AETHER REALM reached new levels of melodic death metal mastery with the release of their latest full-length album, Redneck Vikings From Hell, in 2020. Today, in anticipation of their upcoming U.S. tour with Unleash The Archers and Seven Kingdoms, the band has unveiled a gripping, emotive new video for their triumphant track "Cycle", featuring Michael Rumple (Flood District, Lorelei), off of Redneck Vikings From Hell.
Frontman/bassist Vincent "Jake" Jones says:
âThe lyrics for 'Cycle' came to me in a desperate place. I was trying to make sense of why I still experienced these long episodes of depression, even when there didn't seem to be an obvious reason for it to come on. It's like it was always waiting to sneak up and snatch me out of the moment, and no amount of personal growth or skill mastery or artistic recognition could prevent it from taking me in its grip.
So I thought - if I can't prevent the feeling from coming on, I can at least give myself a tangible reminder that this is normal for me. That I've made it out of low places before, and I will again. This song helps keep my feet on the ground when I'm feeling cocky highs, and it gives me some hope when I'm running low. It was a pleasure to turn that emotional blooming and wilting that we all experience from time to time into a visual aesthetic with Jaraad Nageer and Ana Manso."

Harry Stafford and Marco Butcher have never actually met in the flesh. But they are punk soul brothers from the same muddy musical pond. Connecting with one another during a year of âlockdown hellâ, their exchange of ideas and talk of musical influences inadvertently led to their collaboration.
As innovative juices began to boil, the frenetic exchange of digital files culminated in 'Bone Architecture', a 12-track album that both of them had been itching to make. This superb collection includes reworked older material, brand-new compositions and even a dirty blues version of the Pink Floyd classic 'Arnold Layne'. Ahead of the album, the duo present lead single 'There's Someone Tryin To Get In' with video created by Stafford.
âFor me, this record is a blast of energy with a cool raw groove that I have been itching to express for a while and, with Marco Butcher, I found the perfect collaborator to express it. His garage punk soul music, fused with jazz and swing was the tonic I needed after the doldrums of the last year and a half. The songs we put together fell into place like puzzle pieces in a fuzzed up sonic soundscape," says Harry Stafford.
Best known as founder, guitarist and vocalist of Manchester post-punk gothic rockers Inca Babies, Harryâs two most recent solo albums ('Guitar Shaped Hammers' and 'Gothic Urban Blues') reflect a cooler, less frenetic vibe, leaning on piano, trumpets and blues guitar. All this made him the perfect collaborator to set words and lyrics to Marcoâs sonic backdrop.
Originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Marco Butcher now lives in Winston Salem, North Carolina. A prolific recording artist, he has recently released music with his various acts: The Jam Messengers, Chicken Snake, and The Jesus and The Groupies. Centred around the American underground of blues, jazz, rockabilly, and screaming punk blues, he has collaborated with Hugo Race, as well as members of Tex and the Horseheads, Pussy Galore, Gumball, The Gories, Gibson Brothers, Jerry Teel, The Oblivians and The Workdogs.
'Bone Architecture' is a collection of songs that is raw and, at times, an unforgiving forage into urban punk blues with fuzzed up jazz and garage trash rock. Here, Harry and Marcoâs styles have clashed magnificently into a powerful record that crosses a multitude of genres but with a dirty blues makeover.
âThereâs something about collaborating that is pure magic to me, cause you're not sharing ideas at the same time and you're in the moment. Thereâs something about the not knowing what the other will bring . . the surprise factor. The fact that music is very elastic and not always the way ya listen to it in your mind but something else, something cooler, greater," says Marco Butcher.
"I guess mutual respect has a lot to do it too, sharing the same type of ideas about music and life... For a period of time, Inca Babies 'This Train' was my bandstand music when I was crossing a very dark and dangerous lifestyle, when I decided NOT to die. This album was the one I listened to the most.â
Marco's tracks were recorded at his Boombox Studio in Winston Salem, then shipped by a well-known bulk file sender to Manchester, where Harry laid down vocals, piano and any instrumental tomfoolery he saw fit at Black Lagoon Records. On four occasions, the files also flew to London for supremo trumpet player Kevin Davy to lay some jazz tones into the mix. After the engineering, agonising, production and debates, they were finally mastered by Marco.
As of August 6, 'There's Someone Tryin To Get In' will be available everywhere online, including Spotify and Apple Music. The 'Bone Architecture' LP will be released on September 3 via Black Lagoon Records, both digitally and on CD. CDs can be pre-ordered via Bandcamp and the Louder than War shop.

Steve Hackett Launches Foxâs Tango; Second Single From âSurrender of Silenceâ
Legendary guitarist Steve Hackett, releases his new studio rock album Surrender of Silence on 10th September 2021, via Inside Out Music. The album features 11 new songs as Steve has been working hard through Lockdown and, for the first time, has completed two studio albums for release within the same year!
Today sees the launch of the albumâs second single, and you can watch the video for âFoxâs Tangoâ below.

Hot on the heels of his classical-acoustic travelogue Under A Mediterranean Sky, which was released in January and hit Number 2 in the UK Classical Album Chart, Surrender of Silence is a further exploration of Hackettâs love of world music, discovering different sounds, moods and textures to deliver a rock album of extraordinary variety, power and beauty.
As with Under A Mediterranean Sky, Surrender of Silence was also recorded during Lockdown and, again, Hackett has called upon some of his musical friends from across the world to contribute. Hackettâs regular touring band of Roger King (keyboards, programming and orchestral arrangements), Rob Townsend (sax, clarinet), Jonas Reingold (bass), Nad Sylvan (vocals) and Craig Blundell (drums) are supplemented by Phil Ehart and Nick DâVirgilio (drums), the vocal talents of Amanda Lehmann, Durga and Lorelei McBroom, Christine Townsend (violin, viola), Malik Mansurov (tar) and Sodirkhon Ubaidulloev (dutar).

Our journey takes us from the classical orchestrations of Russia (Natalia) to the plains of Africa (Wingbeats) to mysterious Eastern shores (Shanghai To Samarkand), all via the oceanâs depths (Relaxation Music for Sharks (featuring feeding frenzy)). The Devilâs Cathedral pools the talents of Hackettâs entire touring band and features Kingâs atmospheric Gothic organ and a powerhouse rhythm display from Blundell and Reingold.
Hackettâs vocals have never been bettered and his duet with Amanda Lehmann adds emotion to Scorched Earth a lament for the environmental horrors facing our planet. Throughout Hackettâs guitars add a rich tapestry of colour with soaring solos and intricate weaving melodies.

About Steve Hackett
Steve Hackett joined Genesis at the beginning of 1971 and gained an international reputation as the guitarist in the bandâs classic line-up alongside Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins. Hackettâs intricate guitar work was a key element of Genesisâ albums from Nursery Cryme (1971) to Wind And Wuthering (1977) including the classic Selling England By The Pound.
After leaving Genesis at the end of 1977, Hackettâs solo career, which now spans more than 30 albums, has demonstrated his extraordinary versatility with both electric and acoustic guitar. Hackett is renowned as both an immensely talented and innovative rock musician and a virtuoso classical guitarist and composer and this was recognised in 2010 when he was inducted into the Rock Hall Of Fame. He has also worked alongside Steve Howe of YES in the supergroup GTR.
Hackettâs compositions take influences from many genres, including jazz, classical and blues. For his later studio works The Night Siren (2017) and At The Edge Of Light (2019) Hackett has explored the influences of world music. Recent tours have seen Hackett celebrate his time with Genesis including a spectacular 2018 tour in which he realised a long-held ambition to perform the works of Genesis live with his band and an orchestra.
The lockdown enforced by the 2020 global pandemic has proven to be a particularly creative period for Hackett. He began by releasing Selling England by the Pound & Spectral Mornings: Live at Hammersmith, a live recording of 2019âs hugely successful tour celebrating that Genesis classic together with the 40th anniversary of one of his most-loved solo albums. Lockdown also gave Hackett the opportunity to write and record two new studio albums, the UK Classical Chart hit Under A Mediterranean Sky and the forthcoming Surrender of Silence.
