Swedish Blackened Death Metal Legends’ New Album

Dawn Of The Damned Out October 9 Via Century Media Records

Today, NECROPHOBIC release “Devil's Spawn Attack,” the third and last single before the Swedish blackened death metal legends drop their already critically acclaimed new album Dawn of the Damned on October 9 via Century Media Records worldwide.

“Devil's Spawn Attack” comes together with an official music directed by Henrik Hedberg and NECROPHOBIC, which shows the band and their special guest vocalist—DESTRUCTION frontman Schmier—performing in the recording studio. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/8V-UfAzwaMo

NECROPHOBIC says, "On our upcoming album Dawn of the Damned we have a very special guest appearance by Schmier of DESTRUCTION. Earlier this year when we were working on the album, we felt that one of the songs would fit this legend just about perfectly and we are grateful he accepted our invitation! He made a fantastic contribution on our song ‘Devil's Spawn Attack’ and you can see and hear the result in form of a video of our collaboration."

Schmier (DESTRUCTION) has the following to add: “What a killer tune this is! I heard the song for the first time when the band asked me to check out the track. I was caught right away by the old school approach and the in your face songwriting! Killer stuff and great fun in the studio. I hope the fans will dig it as much as I did when we recorded my part in Switzerland with my buddy V.O. Pulver!“

Dawn of the Damned, which was recorded and mixed by Fredrik Folkare (Unleashed, Firespawn, etc.) and which once again comes with artwork by Kristian “Necrolord” Wåhlin, will be available as Ltd. 2CD Mediabook & Patch, Gatefold colored & black LP with LP-Booklet & Poster, Standard CD Jewelcase and Digital album and is ready for pre-order here: https://necrophobic.lnk.to/DawnOfTheDamned

About NECROPHOBIC

With thirty years of active, nefarious service under their bulletbelts, NECROPHOBIC are undisputed legends of the death and black metal underground. Formed in 1989 by drummer Joakim Sterner, the Stockholm blackhearts propagated a singular and fearless vision from the very start, confirming their prowess with now legendary debut album The Nocturnal Silence in 1993.

Despite numerous line-up changes and moments of turmoil, NECROPHOBIC’s dark light has never dimmed. As a result, when the band’s most efficacious line-up reconvened for 2018’s Mark Of The Necrogram, it was obvious to fans and critics alike that the Swedish quintet were back to the blistering form that first cemented their reputation. With guitarists Sebastian Ramstedt and Johan Bergeback back in the fold after a five-year hiatus, it was a self-evident career peak for all concerned. Not just the best sounding record of the band’s career, but one of the most monstrously dramatic and destructive records of the decade, it made the prospect of the next NECROPHOBIC album even more mouth-watering. Fast forward to 2020 and chief songwriter Ramstedt has summoned another breath-taking eruption of otherworldly malice, this time bearing the title Dawn of the Damned.

NECROPHOBIC is:

Anders Strokirk – vocals

Sebastian Ramstedt – lead guitars

Johan Bergebäck – rhythm guitar

Allan Lundholm – bass

Joakim Sterner – drums

"Real Big Trouble started simple - with all of us passing an acoustic guitar back and forth. It is the heaviest song we've written but showcases all of our influences from old Thin Lizzy swing to Beartooth. Songs like that are our favorite to write and i hope people dig it as much as we enjoyed making it" says the band.

THE DEAD DAISIES' “BUSTLE AND FLOW” A NEW ANIMATED MUSIC EXPERIENCE PREMIERES

Influenced by 70's and early 80's rock, The Dead Daisies sound is soulful and accessible - equal parts of Aerosmith, Bad Company and Foreigner: muscular voca...

Rock bands have always used music videos to express their creativity and innovation, “Bustle and Flow” is no exception.

Rock band The Dead Daisies have collaborated with Creative Works (London), a branding and content studio (live concert graphic artists for Guns N’ Roses and Aerosmith, amongst others) to provide the latest visuals for their newest single “Bustle and Flow”. Together they are forging new ground creating narrative driven real-time immersive visual and music content, that spans live, social and digital channels. This Animated Music Experience (A.M.E) uses the Unreal Engine game engine that is behind the worldwide online video game phenomenon Fortnite, amongst others.

The Dead Daisies are always looking for original ideas and providing unique experiences for their fans. This new offering taps into the gaming aesthetic that dominates the globe and enables the band to connect with audiences of all ages, whilst remaining on the cutting edge of technology.

A spellbinding animation sets the backdrop for the song from their upcoming album, Holy Ground which will be released January 22, 2021.

In this dark, fiery tale a Mysterious Woman arrives at the entrance of a foreboding Sideshow Carnival that has pitched up on the outskirts of town in the grounds of an old dilapidated church graveyard. With stealth and speed on her side, the Raven deals out her punishment outwitting her prey at every turn and subjecting her quarry to a swift demise.

“Filled with energy and vigor, “Bustle and Flow” emerged as one of the last tracks to make the cut. It builds and builds and has great movement. The song and the video are about walking through the fear,” says vocalist and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Glenn Hughes.

THE DEAD DAISIES ARE:

Vocals/Bass: Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Country Communion)

Guitar: Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio)

Guitar: David Lowy (Mink, Red Phoenix)

Drums/Vocals: Deen Castronovo (Journey, Bad English, Hardline)

ALBERT BOUCHARD, FOUNDING MEMBER OF BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, RELEASES “BLACK TELESCOPE”, THE FIRST SINGLE AND VIDEO FROM THE FORTHCOMING “RE IMAGINOS” ALBUM.

Albert Bouchard - Re Imaginos | RockHeart Records/Deko Entertainment PRE-ORDER: https://www.merchbucket.com/collections/albert-bouchard For more information,...

Albert Bouchard is best known as a founding member of Blue Öyster Cult. The original line-up sold millions of albums for Columbia Records, with such classic songs as “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” and the #1 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart “Burning For You”. Contributing to songwriting, drums, and lead vocals on some of their greatest songs, such as “Cites on Flame with Rock and Roll”.

Albert is set to release “Re Imaginos” on November 6th through he and his brother’s (Joe Bouchard) new imprint label, RockHeart Records / Deko Entertainment (ADA/Warner Music Group). The album is Albert’s reimagining of the 1988 Blue Öyster Cult release, “Imaginos”, which was originally intended as Albert’s solo album. As Albert explains, “Most BOC fans know at this point that ‘Imaginos’ was supposed to be my solo album. Some people think it’s the best BOC album, others think it’s not a ‘true’ BOC album. In either case, they’re right. I made this new album for them so that they can hear a more properly realized version of the tale."

“Black Telescope” is the first single and video and tells the story of an undead creature that takes the form of a fish and now uses alchemy to rule the solar system. This being sees with the power of the mind and does not need eyes.

It was more ordinary and needed the help of technology to rule the world in the past, at a time when it was in the shape of a human sailor and knew the dangers of the deep. When the sailor went to the telescope workshop he experienced a strange rebirth and became an all-powerful force.

Also to celebrate the launch of RockHeart Records and the release of “Re Imaginos”, the Bouchard brothers are offering a limited amount of the official RockHeart Records Cowbell autographed personally by both Joe and Albert.

Albert’s infamous cowbell part in “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” was the basis of the classic Will Ferrell skit on SNL, which also starred Christopher Walken. With “The Reaper,” an all-time classic on YouTube and every other digital platform, with zillions of views, the Bouchard brothers are forever cemented in pop culture.

JEREMY EDGE, FORMER GUITARIST FOR CANDLELIGHT RED RELEASE NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO FOR “FIREDANCER”.

"Firedancer" Official Music Video, from the debut LP from Jeremy Edge: "The Jeremy Edge Project" available now at https://www.merchbucket.com/collections/the...

Former Candlelight Red guitarist Jeremy Edge is quickly establishing himself as an axe slinging guitarist/singer, stretching his musical horizons beyond hard rock and metal. Deko Entertainment (ADA/Warner Music Group) has just released his new release, The Jeremy Edge Project, which features guest performances by Brandon Yeagley (Crobot), Brett Hestla (Dark New Day), and master blues guitarist Josh Smith. It is available for streaming and download, as well as all major outlets on both CD and Limited Edition Vinyl.

The album features 9 tracks - varying from bluesy and soulful ballads to in your face rock grooves with blazing guitar. He has just released a video for the lead off track on the record “Firedancer”, which already has people taken notice of this blistering track.

The opening track on the album, Firedancer Intro is a guitar explosion that could easily be mistaken for a long-buried Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn track that was recently discovered. This leads into Firedancer, a straight-head hard rocker that would be most familiar to fans of Candlelight Red, Crobot and Dark New Day.

Screamer Magazine

“An intro to Firedancer opens with an example of Edge’s innate ability to work around his fretboard with a blistering instrumental segue into Firedancer with a funky riff and soulful singing….The Jeremy edge project is a welcome introduction for this upcoming guitarist and his talented guests. It is a refreshing alternative with solid songwriting .”

The Rockpit

Jeremy had this to say about the new video, ““Firedancer was a fun video to make. We wanted to add some of the psychedelic effects of the “Beat Club” era but not make something that was completely retro. This is the first time any of us had ever performed in front of a “green screen” so it was one of things where you really had to use your imagination and just get dropped into the song. We also featured an old vintage Sennheiser microphone in the video that was left to me by dad. I think it’s probably from the late fifties? Aside from the performance stuff, some friends of mine had years ago turned me on to how cool “Poi” was and I thought something kinda like that was the perfect fit for this song. The Director, Wade Spencer did a great job combining those elements.”

Deko Entertainment president Bruce Pucciarello stated, “Jeremy has an innate ability to blend musical fruit from different decades and have it come out like a perfectly sweet smoothie.  Total chops with an ability to transcend, blend, and create.  Keep an eye on this virtuoso.”

Available on Vinyl, CD, and limited edition bundles (while supplies last), which can be ordered via: https://tinyurl.com/y6x6ut45

Small Town Titans upcoming album "The Ride" which will be released on Friday, November 13, 2020 through AntiFragile Music.

Don't underestimate the punk kid with a dream. Ever. 🤘🎶 Check out our new single "Universal Limits" now. Be sure to give this video a like, subscribe to our ...

Band Lineup:

Phil Freeman - Vocals/Bass

Ben Guiles - Guitar

Jonny Ross - Drums

The Small Town Titans are an American rock n' roll power trio from York, PA who love to constantly create, as well as play live. Gone is the notion that a rock band should only release 10 songs at a time every 2 years. In a world where music fans crave new content constantly, the Small Town Titans aim to deliver their brand of art all of the time, drawing inspiration from a newer wave of rock bands such as Highly Suspect and Royal Blood, and rock legends such as the Foo Fighters, Audioslave, and Deep Purple. Thanks to their efforts at taking matters into their own hands, STT can create and release songs, podcasts, live online concerts, and more with no rules. In a social media driven world, STT knows releasing quality, constant content is as important as playing great live shows.

In November of 2018, the band’s cover of the Christmas song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” went viral in a matter of days, leading to charting on various Billboard charts including Holiday Digital Song Sales, Rock Digital Song Sales, Emerging Artists, and reaching #5 on the Next Big Sound chart. The song also reached #2 on the iTunes Rock charts, only being surpassed by Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”. STT quickly found themselves achieving success, all on their own terms. As a continued unsigned act, all three members have risen to the occasion to continue to make music the way they want to, free from having to follow traditional music industry rules. By changing their mindset and focus towards creating content like many successful YouTubers, STT has made fans the old fashioned way, by word of mouth.

With no manager, label, or radio support, the Small Town Titans have managed to find success by simply never forgetting one thing, their fans, both new and old. Instead of trying to make a million fans, STT is focusing on the fans they already have, and the ones they continue to make. With a love for playing live, a Small Town Titans show has evolved into more than a concert. It’s an event, with a set list that’s decided right before the show, and plenty of stage banter in between songs. The band simply hits the stage to deliver an energy driven show using guitars, drums, and their voices. Nothing more, nothing less. This approach to their live performances has led to them sharing the stage with acts such as Highly Suspect, Papa Roach, Black Stone Cherry, Pop Evil, and more.

By focusing on their engagement on social media and managing themselves, Small Town Titans are growing like never before and having more success as a business and a brand. STT is actively forming a team of like minded individuals in the new music business who are just as driven and passionate as they are, rather than waiting to be discovered. NIGHT RANGER ENTER RECORDING STUDIO

night ranger_0306.jpg

NEW ALBUM PLANNED FOR RELEASE IN 2021

FOLLOW UP TO 2017's "DON'T LET UP"

NIGHT RANGER have initiated the writing and recording of their next, yet untitled, studio album, which they plan to release via Frontiers Music Srl in 2021. The new album will follow 2017's “Don’t Let Up”. While fans wait for the new album, they can enjoy this collection of videos from the band's most recent releases via YouTube HEREhttps://bit.ly/2HpuydS

Songwriting started with the three original members Jack Blades (lead vocals/bass), Kelly Keagy (lead vocals/drums), and Brad Gillis (lead & rhythm guitars) meeting and putting their initial ideas together. The recording has now started with Eric Levy (keyboards) and Keri Kelli (lead & rhythm guitars) joining the process and the band will record through the rest of the year. The plan, subject to change, is to deliver the record to Frontiers in the first few months of 2021, with a release in the summer currently planned. The hope is that the album release will coincide with the band’s return to the stage, conditions permitting.

Night Ranger is proof positive that powerful, hooky songs performed by accomplished musicians is the perfect formula for continued success and their next album will further confirm that! "What this world needs now is to come together through music and Night Ranger is on it! We are excited to create a new studio album with our great partners at Frontiers Music. Our biggest problem is that we have so many songs, we’re trying to figure out which ones to leave off! Rock and Roll baby,” says the band.

For a crew that’s been rocking for almost four decades, their new album will continue their fine tradition of creating kick-ass American hard rock.

With more than 17 million albums sold worldwide, over 3500 live performances, and a radio audience that exceeds 1 billion, Night Ranger has both epitomized and transcended the arena rock sound and style. The band has earned widespread acclaim that includes multi-platinum and gold albums, while leaving their indelible mark on the music charts with a string of best-selling albums (Dawn Patrol, Midnight Madness, 7 Wishes, Big Life, and Man In Motion). Their popularity is fueled by an impressive string of instantly recognizable hit singles and signature album tracks, including legendary songs such as “Sister Christian”, “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me”, “When You Close Your Eyes”, the anthemic “(You Can Still) Rock In America”, along with “Sentimental Street”, “Goodbye”, “Sing Me Away”, and “Four In The Morning”.

Over the years, the band’s music has made notable contributions to and been featured in many different areas of media and popular culture. The band was one of the first big “video” bands on MTV, with over ten number one hit videos. Night Ranger songs can be heard in TV shows like, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, American Dad, Glee, Grey’s Anatomy, and Parks & Recreation. The band have also had music featured in video games such as Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and Grand Theft Auto, plus hit Broadway musical Rock of Ages, the Oscar-Nominated film Boogie Nights, and other feature films such as Friday the 13th, Teachers, Sixteen Candles, and The Secret of My Success. Night Ranger has also been featured in JBL’s “Hear The Truth” brand campaign, plus advertising campaigns from Dr. Pepper to Old Navy.

Night Ranger is Jack Blades (bass, vocals), Kelly Keagy (drums, vocals), Brad Gillis (lead & rhythm guitars), Eric Levy (keyboards), and Keri Kelli (lead & rhythm guitars).

Tommy’s single will be impacting radio on 10/27/20. Tommy is releasing an EP coming out independently on January 12, 2021.

Tommy Gibbons is currently the lead guitarist in Farewell to Fear and the guitarist for the American Idol Finalist Wade Cota! In previous experiences, Tommy was the guitarist in Tantricand FLAW. Tommy has toured the US extensively and has created his own fan base with personal interactions and live performances that people do not forget!

Tommy joined Farewell to Fear in 2019 and performed on Chris Jericho's Rock and Wrestlin Rager at Sea Cruise out to the Bahamas with the band in January, 2020. Originally released by Dark Horizon records as a four song EP and then again by Nuclear War Now! Productions with bonus tracks, the band has now partnered with Season of Mist Underground Activists to re-release this long sold out collection.

This eight song collection of EP‘s and one-off tracks represents the band‘s earliest recordings and displays the focused and hostile, relentless and raw vision that eventually transformed into the twenty years reign of Black Metal Chaos.

The viciousness of REVENGE’s unparalleled assault on this collection of songs remains after all these years and is easily one the most hostile displays of frenzied Chaotic Black Metal to ever come out of the bowels of the North American Black Metal underground.

With the chimes of death ringing in their 20th year in 2020, alongside the prominence that REVENGE has earned releasing multiple albums and EP‘s over the past two decades, it seems fitting to now once again re-issue this debut that declared to the world the band‘s intentions of being a solitary black mist of death that smothers the trends tainting the black metal underground.

This edition contains the Attack.Blood.Revenge EP and four additional bonus tracks including the “Superion.Command.Destroy” EP, REVENGE’s track from the split 7” with ARKHON INFAUSTUS, and the band’s cover of VON’s “Lamb” that it recorded for inclusion on the 2009 NWN! Fest compilation.

NACHTBLUT Releases Fourth Single and Lyric Video

“Die Toten Vergessen Nicht” (englThe Dead Don’t Forget)

New Album, Vanitas, Out October 2

Pre-Order NOW!

A morbid ode for grim reaper himself!

German dark metal pioneers NACHTBLUT have reached the final countdown, and today, unveil their fourth single “Die Toten Vergessen Nicht” (engl. The Dead Don’t Forget) before their new full-length, Vanitas, will be released on October 2, 2020 via Napalm Records.

As the closing track and longest song on their sixth full-length album, the German-based unit delivers a haunting ear-catcher and epic climax with "Die Toten Vergessen Nicht". The dark and morbid mood inexorably invades every part of the body while showcasing the band’s essence on point. NACHTBLUT have never been afraid of coming up with topics that in general may be considered as unpleasant or that others are afraid of – quite the contrary! The new single proves best and is an ode composed for grim reaper himself. The striking growls of vocalist Askeroth are embedded in an instrumental swirl of orchestral melancholy and brutality at the same time, before an atmospheric outro leads the song to its final rest. If only there could be a repeat button for life too...

NACHTBLUT on the new single:

“In „Die Toten Vergessen Nicht“ we are dealing with the experience of losing a beloved person. Almost everyone knows the tragic of that situation, which makes you aware more than everything else of transience and mortality. This song is breathing the Vanitas theme - a reminder that nothing last forever. It doesn't need many words, the song and the experience speaking for themselves. A worthy last song on an album about the many facets and aspects of life and being.”

A dark work of art between transience and infinity.

The new album Vanitas draws the listener into the band’s musical maelstrom in a classifying NACHTBLUT manner. Songs like “Das Puppenhaus” (engl. the dollhouse) are reminiscent of scene giants such as RAMMSTEIN, with brutally honest lyrics and rhythmic guitars. “Meine Grausamkeit Kennt Keine Grenzen” (engl. My Cruelty Knows No Bounds) doesn’t make any compromises, shows no mercy and quickly enfolds in a harsh compelling sound of riff driven blast beats, while the folk-influenced song “Leierkinder” (engl. children of the lyre) convinces with an addictive rhythm and moving lyrics that will carry the listener away to days of yore. With Vanitas, these dark metal giants create a symbolic work of art somewhere between transience and infinity.

SÓLSTAFIR Premieres Official Video for New Song, "Her Fall from Grace"

Music will always be inspired by the environment in which it is created. With its incredible array of highly diverse landscapes ranging from white glaciers v...

Iceland rock giants SÓLSTAFIR have unveiled the harrowing official music video for their brand new song, "Her Fall from Grace." The stark video, which chronicles the pain of watching a loved one succumb to addiction and depression.

Vocalist Aðalbjörn Tryggvason comments: "We present to you the next single from our upcoming album “Endless Twilight of Codependent Love” entitled, “Her Fall From Grace”. We hope you enjoy it and take from it what you need."

"Her Fall from Grace" is taken from SÓLSTAFIR's seventh studio album, 'Endless Twilight of Codependent Love,' which is due on November 6 via Season of Mist! Pre-order 'Endless Twilight of Codependent Love' HERE.

'Endless Twilight of Codependent Love' was recorded at the Sundlaugin Studio (Iceland), where 'Svartir Sandar,' 'Ótta' and 'Berdreyminn' were also recorded by producer Birgir Jón Birgisson (Sigur Rós, Alcest, Damien Rice).

A quarter of a century after singer/guitarist Aðalbjörn "Addi" Tryggvason co-founded atmospheric Icelandic metal quartet Sólstafir, they continue to follow their cardinal rule – that there are no rules. For them, writing an epic 10-minute song without a traditional verse/chorus trade-off feels natural. While they have done two albums in English, he mainly sings in their native tongue and his vocals are as much an instrument as a vessel for words. Their videos equally showcase the band and their Icelandic world that they commune with.

And their music flows however it pleases. “Having been a metal band for a long time and gone through shoegaze, atmospheric black metal, and post rock, I just feel privileged being able to mix all my favorite genres and get away with it,” says Tryggvason.

In the world of Sólstafir, artists as varied as The Beatles, Kraftwerk, Darkthrone, Ennio Morricone, and Billy Corgan swirl inside their heads, and such influences seep into their musical ether.

Painted in watercolor by Johann Baptist Zwecker in 1864, The Lady of the Mountain is the female personification of Iceland. It was first published in a book of Icelandic folk tales but was never shown in public. A black and white woodblock replica by the artist is what Icelanders have known until recently when two citizens found the original hidden in a Welsh museum gallery where it had been in storage for a century. Now it is back home and adorning the cover of the new Sólstafir album.

“Everybody knows the image of the Lady of the Mountain,” declares Tryggvason. “It's like Marianne to the French and Minerva in Roman mythology. All of a sudden, the original pops up and it’s like, ‘Oh my god, these are the most beautiful colors I've ever seen. And why does it remind me of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness?’ So that's purely accidental. When we saw this photo, we had to use it. It's too beautiful.”

While early Sólstafir lyrics delved into Nordic mythology and critiques of organized religion, more recent songs explore their spiritual connection with nature, and lately, mental disorders ranging from depression to alcoholism and the taboo behind men in particular discussing those things for fear of being perceived weak.

“That’s the real darkness that you can't see, but you can feel it and people around you can feel it,” explains Tryggvason. “Of course, there are serial killers and plagues and whatever through history. But in modern day life, that's the true darkness around you. People kill themselves every day, and often people close to you who have been feeling so bad.”

He says the most personal song on Endless Twilight of Codependent Love is “Her Fall From Grace,” the lone track in English. It chronicles the pain of watching a loved one succumb to mental illness.

“It's very sad when you love someone and you see them get sick,” muses Tryggvason. “Like Layne Staley said, ‘Slow suicide is no way to go.’ But you’re just watching on the audience bench, preparing for the phone call. ‘Hey man, Johnny's dead.’ ‘All right, I knew Johnny was gonna die. I've been watching him in slow motion.’” He likens the experience to seeing a relative or parent be consumed by Alzheimer’s and turn into a different person than one remembers.

Although the band’s lyrics are predominately in Icelandic, that does not prevent outside listeners from appreciating the emotional power of their music. It has been said that many fans can feel his pain even if they do not overtly understand what he is singing about.

A beautiful moment in that regard occurred when Sólstafir played Bogota, Colombia in September 2017. It was the smallest show on their South American tour, and they presumed it would not be as lively. The 300 strong throng proved them wrong. “It felt like I was in Queen at Wembley Stadium,” Tryggvason recollects fondly. “They sang every goddamn word in Icelandic. How can you explain that?”

Such passionate reactions have not gone unnoticed in their homeland. Iceland picked Sólstafir to play a total of six events New York City, Seattle, and Toronto last fall called “Taste Of Iceland.” Tryggvason says the band enjoyed the event and their intimate industry showcases at Pianos (NYC) and Livenation (Toronto) during that same trip.

Counter-intuitive thinking has helped Sólstafir evolve and mature. The new track “Or” opens with a languid, bluesy feeling but gradually transforms into an angst-ridden, guitar-driven dirge. When they conjured their breakthrough song “Fjara” in 2011, the group feared its mellow nature might put off their longtime metal followers. Instead, they embraced it. That tune, along with the ambient, banjo-laden track “Ótta,” allowed the group to play both the Brutal Assault festival in the Czech Republic five years ago and then a family-friendly music event in the Netherlands the next weekend. The new rager “Dionysus” even features a return to their black metal roots that was not planned; the song just turned out that way over a year-long span.

“Our audience grew bigger and more diverse by us just being ourselves and doing nothing different really,” notes Tryggvason.

One of the joys for him and his bandmates – bassist Svavar "Svabbi" Austmann, guitarist Sæþór Maríus "Pjúddi" Sæþórsson, and newer drummer Hallgrímur Jón "Grimsi" Hallgrímsson, who contributed some lyrics this time out – is that their perception of how their new music will turn out never corresponds with reality. It is that unknown factor that keeps things exciting.

You can never foresee band magic,” declares Tryggvason. “The whole purpose of this is cooking up magic. And if you're cooking up magic with four or five weirdos, you can never foresee what's going to happen. You can't buy that. You have to live it or grow it.”

Swedish Folk Pioneers GARMARNA Premieres New Single "Två Systrar"

Swedish folk rock pioneers GARMARNA are now premiering "Två Systrar," the second new song from their upcoming record 'Förbundet.' The track features guest vocals from Maria Franz (HEILUNG).

GARMARNA comments:

"'Två Systrar'
"This one goes deep.

"We’ve been playing around with this classic tale of betrayal and revenge before but it was always put on hold. Not this time. The poetry is breathtaking, it doesn’t get much starker than this.

"Musically, for us, this is one of the most satisfying songs we’ve done. With Garmarna, there is always a riddle. An escape room. We’re trapped until we solve the puzzle. Here, it started with an original idea of ours blended with a traditional melody and in an hour we transformed a whole bunch of ideas into a melody that just flows.

"Stefan was playing around with the amazing Elektron Octatrack, preparing a soundpack of Nordic sounds (keep your eyes open for that). So a Mouth harp, treated in a million ways, created a set of harmonies we could play on the keyboard. The strange harmonies seemed to be the key so we followed.

"There has been some moments where creating music is expanding ones soul and mind in ways words cannot describe and personally, the creation of 'Två Systrar' is one of the most powerful examples of this.

"We’re so proud to present 'Två Systrar.'
"Enjoy!"

The visionary folk sounds of Sweden’s GARMARNA marry the past to the present on their captivating new album ‘Förbundet.’ ‘Förbundet’ (Swedish for connected) is an especially apt title as their songs, inspired by traditional Swedish folk music and Scandinavian ballads, are played by acoustic instruments but accented by a flourish of modern electronics (beats, loops and samples). The album, led by Emma Härdelin's spellbinding vocals and aided by the rich production of Christopher Juul (HEILUNG), see the Grammis (Swedish Grammy) winning group operating at the heights of their powers. GARMARNAhas persevered for nigh on four decades now, and ‘Förbundet’ further secures their legacy as one of the worldwide leaders of traditional Scandinavian folk music.

Pre-sales for 'Förbundet' are now live in the Season of Mist shop HERE.

It is very easy to tout a band's eclecticism in our modern era of musical mash-ups and globe-spanning Zoom collaborations. But Swedish folk-rockers Garmarna have been turning traditional ideas on their head long before it was fashionable. Over the last 30 years, they been stirring in a rich blend of influences that create their unique sonic blend. For their efforts, they have won a Swedish Grammy award, gained the respect and collaboration of esteemed musicians in their homeland, and cultivated an international following.

On their seventh and latest studio album Förbundet, Garmarna continue blurring the traditional and the modern, with the often multi-tracked vocals of Emma Hardelin floating above it all. A ballad from the 1700s, “Ramunder” is imbued with heaviness, like an acoustic metal tune, with Anders Norudde from Hedningarna playing moraharpa (a cousin of the hurdy gurdy) on the song. Thumping drums and frenetic strings drive the moody “Sven i Rosengård,” while the danceable “Lussi Lilla” is more playful. On the flip side, acoustic ballad “Ur Världen Att Gå” and the dreamy vocal track “Din Grav” balance out the more propulsive tracks.

As with past efforts, the new Förbundet serves up traditional material infused with original ideas, with Garmarna looking to medieval and murder ballads and Estonian chorales for inspiration. It is certainly a dark album.

“There is more to the Swedish culture than this darkness,” notes co-founding member Stefan Brisland-Ferner. ”But the traditional stories have an edge to them that’s something special. There’s a harshness we just can’t resist. A feeling lurking in there that is beautiful, wild, and haunting. This new one is maybe the darkest yet, in that it deals so much with death, longing, sorrow.”

For Stefan, the most personal song on the new album is the tranquil, ethereal ”Vägskäl” which has been described as being about life's crossroads, grief, and losing someone, and also memories that are slowly erased or that can last a lifetime. ”It is the one completely original song on the album and the newest one,” he says. ”Both musically and lyrically, it resonates with a certain place in life I have found myself in.”

Garmarna originally formed as a trio in 1990 featuring guitarist/violinist Gotte Ringqvist, violinist/hurdy gurdy player Stefan Brisland-Ferner, and guitarist/bassist Rickard Westman. After a couple of years of growing their music and audience, they accured drummer Jens Hoglin after being asked to perform at a prominent musical festival in Autsfred, Sweden. Their friend, singer and violinist Emma Hardelin, was in the audience, and she soon joined their ranks. The line-up has remained solid since then.

After releasing their self-titled debut EP in 1993, Garmarna toured Sweden and began developing energetic live shows that in subsequent years have inspired everything from dancing to headbanging. Amid her bandmates, Emma became the calm of the storm onstage, her beautiful vocals an anchor for their energetic music.

”Emma has a very distinct and beautiful voice,” notes Stefan. ”The choices we made early on were traditional ballads that tell a story. The vocal is delivering information and can’t stand in the way of the story, and the instrumentation and arrangements must help to tell the story. The vocal will always be in the center of our music.”

By 1994, Garmarna signed a North American distribution deal with Minneapolis-based Omnium, the label founded by Boiled In Lead bassist Drew Miller who has a passion for eclectic world music and punk-folk tunes. Omnium released Vittrad (1994) and Gods Musicians (1995), and their sister label Northside unleashed Vengeance (1999) and Hildegard Von Bingen (2001). Now 25 years later, Garmarna is on Season of Mist, the international metal label that is starting to explore the dark folk world.

“We have certainly crossed a few boundaries,” acknowledges Stefan. ”We did so quite early and found our own world from which to expand further. Maybe this was luck. Or maybe we are good at finding the right balance between the elements. Again, this their something we ever strived for.” He adds that at one point, they found a certain tone in our music that resonated with the tones of their other tastes.

”The lyrical specter of the classical world,” he elaborates. ”The terror of industrial and black metal. Country music, indie pop, rock’n’roll. At the time, artists like Beck and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion had a great impact on our thinking. Björk, Skinny Puppy, Bowie, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, and lots of other artists from different genres were big heroes for us as well.”

What linked the band members together was their passion for traditional Swedish fiddler’s music and folk singing. ”We don’t think of music as genres but rather like emotions, colours, elements,” explains Stefan. Despite their sonic deviations, they have always felt they have a specific sound, and an American magazine in '99 compared Garmarna's music to a nicely marinated stew, a comparison they favored.

Cooking up this musical melange was not a conscious choice in the beginning. Their collective eclecticism naturally led the way for their folk fusion. ”Using samplers particularly was something that felt just aesthetically right,” says Stefan. ”We could use layers of drones and re-pitch stuff, use both old and new sounds that fitted the songs.”

Throughout their career, the band has taken many interesting journeys, including music inspired by the medieval work of Hildegard von Bingen and a New Year's Eve '99 performance in which Emma performed songs by Benny Andersson of ABBA. They have played at medieval, folk, and rock festivals. While the group did take a 15-year break from recording – family and work commitments, a little creative burn out after years of the tour/album/tour cycle, plus the illegal downloading woes of the early '00s factoring into this studio hiatus – they maintained their chops and passion by continuing to tour.

When asked about how fans have responded to their different influences and diverse output over the years, Stefan cannot definitively say because their followers are seemingly fluid in their tastes as well.

”Sometimes we’ve thought the audience will hate the new stuff, all jungle beats or house or pop or whatever,” he says. ”The audience is a mix of metal heads, folk enthusiasts, hipsters, and just casual music lovers of all ages. Along the way, they have seemed to like what we do! We know that a lot of people wished the return album 6 would have been a bit more traditional, but then a lot of people also praised it for being 'so much Garmarna' in the sense that it took an unexpected turn somewhere new.”

Their loyal acolytes should be pleased with Förbundet, and they will likely draw in new converts as well. You're next.

TOMBS Unleashes New Song "Bone Furnace"

Subscribe to Season Of Mist for new releases : https://som.lnk.to/YouTube Taken from the album 'Under Sullen Skies'. Release Date: November 20, 2020. Order h...

Brooklyn metal formation TOMBS has partnered with Decibel Magazine to unleash their apocalyptic second single, "Bone Furnace," along with a visualizer. The song is taken from the band's upcoming full-length, 'Under Sullen Skies' on November 20 via Season of Mist.

Pre-orders for 'Under Sullen Skies' available in the Season of Mist shop HERE.

There’s a line from Mike Hill’s audiobook/tour diary of ANODYNE’s 2004 European tour in which the gravel-throated frontman affirms, “I will always outwork you.” In that case, Hill was referring to an incident in Germany early on during a six-week long overseas jaunt with his previous band. In actuality, however, he could have been talking about any instance between when he first picked up a guitar as a teen and the present. Whether it’s his history dating back to previous bands OTIS, ANODYNE, KING GENERATOR or VERSOMA, his ongoing solo work in VASILEK, the more recent SCORPION THRONE  project or his thirteen year reign as the driving force and nerve center of post-black metal institution TOMBS, hard work is second nature and nothing will keep the guitarist/vocalist from creative endeavor and expression. And it’s not just music in which his propulsive work ethic has gleaned results: Hill also is the CEO and roast master at Savage Gold Coffee (a labelling nod to TOMBS’ 2014 album of the same name), the host/producer/creator of the Everything Went Black podcast, host and producer of Gimme Radio’s Metal Matters flagship podcast, the creator and co-host of horror podcast Necromaniacs as well as a stalwart in the print and online journalism world covering music and MMA fighting. His is, has been and always will be a life steeped in dedication and with unassailable drive in the cross hairs. And despite the world being put on pause, Hill refuses to curtail his innate determination and ongoing tenacity with the result being TOMBS emerging with the next chapter in its impressive catalog and growing legacy: the band’s fifth full-length, 'Under Sullen Skies'.

“The week VERSOMA broke up in 2007, I started TOMBS,” he says, recalling how, characteristically, the band started before any dust was permitted to settle. “The initial rehearsals ended up being the bulk of material that showed up on the first [self-titled] EP. The intent from the beginning was to get back to playing music I wanted to hear and to not be so concerned with genre or satisfying anyone else’s desires. It was to do music on a personal level and be a reflection of the darkness I’ve felt throughout my life.”

Formed in the gritty corners of pre-gentrified Brooklyn, NY, TOMBS’ early mandate was steeped in the harshness and atonality of black metal but dosed with trace amounts of the varied influences and inspirations ingrained in Hill’s musical muscle memory by previous bands. “The canon of music TOMBS has created has spanned several different genres, but I’ve always had it my intent for there to always be a certain amount of violence and hardness lurking the background.”

Those early years delivered splits and singles, the highly revered 'Winter Hours' debut in 2009 and Decibel’s 2011 Album of the Year, 'Path of Totality'. Never one to sit still, 'Path of Totality' was followed by appreciable and impressive amounts of touring in accordance with the lauding afforded by critics and fans and the braying of foes, which only served as fuel for Hill’s perseverance. Savage Gold came three years later after which a restless Hill began nudging TOMBS’ black metal base into territories populated by gothic and death rock artists like FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM and SISTERS OF MERCY as well as avant-garde purveyors Caspar Brotzmann and Live Skull while never forgetting – or being able to – scrape the grime of NYC from under his fingernails. The addition of a second guitar and live keyboards/samples brought a fuller sound and allowed noise sequences and soundscapes to be brought to the live show. It was around the time of 2016 'All Empires Fall' EP that TOMBS punctuated its iconoclastic spirit and thought process. Despite then-being part of the Relapse Records family, the band struck out with the intent of self-releasing the EP in order to retain as much independence as contractual obligations would allow – retaining the digital and publishing rights while eventually licensing the record back to Relapse. A one album stint in 2017 under the Metal Blade banner birthed 'The Grand Annihilation' into the world where TOMBS took broader and more daring steps into buffering black metal with morose melody, sullen death rock and classic METALLICA chugging. Following a parting from Metal Blade, the band – now completed by drummer Justin Spaeth, guitarist Matt Medeiros and bassist Drew Murphy, who are also 3/4ths of New Jersey death metal crew KALOPSIA - quickly found a home on Season of Mist and issued the 'Monarchy of Shadows' EP literally a week before the world went into Coronavirus lockdown.

“The original strategy assumed we would be on the road for most of 2020,” says Hill with a lamenting laugh. “We had a sick tour with Napalm Death planned right after the EP’s release. We were going to record the new full-length before the tour and have it come out in the fall. There was all kinds of tour talk and plans and 2020 would have been a tour-de-force of TOMBSactivity in the United States and Europe. Obviously, none of that is happening, but we’re still going ahead with the record.”

Of course they are. Throw a hurdle in front of Mike Hill and he’ll never shy at rolling up his sleeves and taking on the challenge. Even with the world in shutdown mode, Hill is still brimming with enthusiasm about the input and work ethic of the current TOMBS lineup and how Spaeth, Mederios and Murphy stepped up to the plate in the creation of 'Under Sullen Skies'.

“Everyone contributes on this record and the door has always been open for others to do so. There has always been this misconception that I’m some sort of tyrant always telling people what to do and play. The fact of the matter is that most of the time I outwork people; that’s just the way I am. No one is ever going to outwork me on any level in any area of my life and I was always coming up with material. Now, I have these maniacs in the band who are equally motivated and there’s a whole new life injected into TOMBS. That’s awesome and I love it. These days we’ll try anything and we actually write stuff and throw it out because it’s not perfect. It’s more like a writing committee, which I really appreciate. It’s not just me writing everything. It’s a big difference from 'The Grand Annihilation' which was basically a solo record.”

'Under Sullen Skies' is this lineup’s second kick at twisting black metal’s DNA around dank emotional corners, psychological turmoil and the urban underbelly all of which is unavoidably coloured and touched by the present-day status of life on this here Earth.

“The album’s title came during all this and the sort of post-apocalyptic world we’re living in,” Hill explains. “It encapsulates an overall feeling of gloom and depression which is pretty much how we’ve been living for most of this year. The title was the last piece to fall into place. I remember standing on the roof of the building I was living in at the time on a grey day and it was raining – actually, it wasn’t even raining; it was a half-assed attempt at rain! – and depressing and I just thought, ‘What a sullen sky’ and it just stuck with me.”

The album starts with “Bone Collector,” a furious blast of melodic black metal that shifts gears towards an anthemic fist-pumping slog through the goth rock-thrash metal VENN DIAGRAM. “Void Constellation” takes as many cues from Peaceville Three gloom and doom as it does the death metal stomp of OBITUARY and INCANTATION. “Descensum” mines the various well-worn parts of Ride the Lightning for influence before blasting the doors open with some startlingly spacious chromatic single-note atonality. As the album progresses, further textures and moods are employed via acoustic instrumentation and keyboards as well as sampled soundscapes all butting heads with furious second wave black metal and sly to nods to death rock heroes SISTERS OF MERCY and FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM, all of the band’s motivations and interests being dropped into the chameleonic pair of tracks closing the album, “Sombre Ruin” and the appropriately titled “Plague Years.”

“‘Barren’ stands out as the song that’s most collaborative,” notes Hill. “Justin wrote the bulk of the riffs on that one, that sort of NWOBHM/SCORPIONS ending part is something I came up with, Matt added a bunch of guitar harmonies over it and Drew’s bass is laid thick underneath. That one is one of the biggest group efforts and one of the strongest songs on the record.

“I explore a lot of the archetypes that are used in folklore on this record, like werewolves and vampires which I’ve always been interested in, and on a song like ‘Secrets of the Black Sun’ I talk about the finite nature of our time on this planet, that nothing is really permanent and being aware of that whether as an individual or as a civilization, which I guess fits in with the pandemic and the changes that are going on. There are all kinds of other people, civilizations and creatures that have come and gone long before us and if you think about it over a long enough time span, everyone’s life expectancy goes down to zero.”

The new album not only sees Hill expanding his creative and collaborative comfort zone by wholly embracing the offerings of his band mates, but he’s also let down the drawbridge to allow folks from beyond the immediate TOMBSfamily to include what he describes as “mad guest spots.”

“There’s Cat Cabral, who does the spoken word piece on ‘Angel of Darkness.’ She’s not a musician per se; she’s more from the occult and witchcraft world. I’ve been friends with her for a really long time and she’s a great resource for esoteric knowledge. She’s also an actress who has done plays and commercials and been in films, so I figured she’d be the perfect person to deliver dialogue in an emotionally deep way, and be good at taking direction. Ray Suhy from SIX FEET UNDER rips the guitar solo in ‘Barren’ and that solo is its own masterpiece, in my opinion. BLACK CROWN INITIATE and former TOMBS live guitarist Andy Thomas contributed a guitar solo in ‘Void Constellation.’ Todd Stern from PSYCROPTIC plays the solo in ‘Mortem.’ Sera Timms from IDES OF GEMINI  and BLACK MATH HORSEMAN does guest vocals on ‘Secrets of the Black Sun.’ We’ve got INTEGRITY’s Dwid Hellion singing the chorus on ‘The Hunger’ and BLACK ANVIL’s Paul Delaney also doing a couple of verses on ‘Angel of Darkness.’ So, yeah, there are a bunch of people on there and it’s like a community effort which I enjoy. I like involving people I respect and having them be a part of the whole thing.”

After spending his entire adult life navigating the pitfalls and pratfalls of the industry for expressive and creative opportunity, Hill has amassed an impressive legacy, one that 'Under Sullen Skies' contributes to admirably and irreverently. Like most, the extreme music underground lifer and veteran is probably justified in approaching the future with very muted optimism, but while the world works at screwing its head back on straight, Hill is going to do what he wants to do as well as he possibly can. Uncertainty may reign at the moment, but Hill and TOMBS are still going to do their thing and will be content to please themselves in the process. If anyone else happens to be along for the ride, then welcome aboard.

“'Under Sullen Skies' is a dark and introspective album,” he asserts. “It’s not a happy record that anyone is going to use to get pumped up on a Friday night. We wanted to pull out the stops, go full-on and make a nice body of work. I could care less if anyone likes the band or not because I’ve been through so many ups and downs with this thing that I don’t give a fuck if people enjoy the music. I know I like it, I know the guys in the band like it and we’re just rocking and rolling. This record and the EP came out about as close as I could imagine to what I have in my brain about how this band should sound. The whole trajectory of the band has had each record never quite hitting, but 'Monarchy of Shadows' and 'Under Sullen Skies' have both really come out how I envisioned the songs to be.”

PORTUGUESE BAND CURRENTLY WORKING ON LABEL DEBUT

PLANNED FOR RELEASE IN 2021

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the signing of Kandia, an alternative metal band from Portugal, to a multi-album deal. The band is currently working on their label debut, which is planned for release in 2021. Kandia is one of the first bands signed through the Frontiers & Beyond initiative, which was launched by the label with the intent to sign bands who will be part of the next generation of hard rock and metal.

“We are excited and very eager to work with Frontiers," says the band. "The label is passionate about music and we are proud to be part of the family. Our new album will definitely have our identity, but we always like to experiment with new things. These hard times that we are going through are giving us much inspiration, so this record will be filled with different emotions.“

Kandia started in November 2007, founded by singer Nya Cruz and guitarist André Da Cruz. They decided to name the band Kandia – to obfuscate, to blind by light – as they felt it would represent the positivity they wanted to radiate. Influenced by progressive rock bands such as A Perfect Circle, Tool, Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, and metal giants like Metallica and Pantera, the band was able to find a unique sound joining all these influences in their songwriting. Musically, Kandia create raw, melodic, and sensual music that delivers positive messages while not leaving the aggressiveness out of the music.

Kandia has released two full length albums thus far, both produced by Daniel Cardoso (Anathema), and one EP. At the end of 2019, once again partnered with Cardoso to begin writing a new album. In May 2020, they released the song “4 Walls” as a taste of what's to come. More songs are now being written, with a full length album anticipated for release in 2021.

CONEY HATCH TO PLAY THE LEGENDARY EL MOCAMBO IN TORONTO

Image 10-1-20 at 4.19 PM.JPG

Canadian hard rock veterans Coney Hatch are pleased to announce their first-ever pay-per-view web concert on October 3, 2020.

The band (lead vocalist and guitarist Carl Dixon, vocalist and bassist Andy Curran, guitarist Sean Kelly, and drummer Dave Ketchum) returns to the legendary El Mocambo in Toronto for the first time since 1983.

The concert will feature music from all four of their studio records spanning a 30+ year career, and will include a close-up interview hosted by Metal Tim Henderson of BraveWords fame. The show will be recorded for a future release on vinyl and CD which also marks the first-ever Coney Hatch live record release.

To order tickets, visit: https://www.ticketweb.ca/event/coney-hatch-el-mocambo-tickets/10721495

“Michael Wekerle - the CEO of the El Mocambo - is a very big Coney Hatch fan, and invited us to be one of the first bands to perform at the new renovated venue in Toronto,” explains Curran. “The El Mocambo is easily the safest venue in Toronto. It’s become the poster child for COVID safety procedures and the city of Toronto did a live stream event on Canada Day and helped pave the way for them. Tables and chairs are all laid out with social distancing regulations in place - with 50 people only on two floors, staff all wearing masks, sanitizers everywhere, temperature taken when entering…they really have gone to great lengths to make artists and patrons feel safe.”

“We paid special attention to all four studio records and chose a mixture of fan and band favorites…kind of a ‘best of Hatch’ night with some cool visuals we’ve added, plus a 30 minute interview with me and Carl, hosted by Metal Tim Henderson - poking and prodding us about our past , present, and future!”

And speaking of the future, the bassist offers this preview of the upcoming live release – “This show will be recorded and filmed for an upcoming Coney Hatch vinyl release. We’ve never released a live record and we feel that our live show is at a different level…so it’s long overdue. Since we’ve been playing in Europe over the last few years and our mini Canadian tour with Steve Harris’ British Lion, there seems to be renewed interest in the band, so, we’ll take it!”

Pre-order your copy with the option to bundle a special limited edition Coney Hatch El Mocambo exclusive event T-shirt at https://coneyhatchstore.myshopify.com. Proceeds from every live stream purchase, in-person ticket, and T-shirt purchase will go towards the Unison Benevolent Fund to aid the Canadian music community.
