MORA PROKAZA Release Third New Single, "Im Not Yours"

Extreme Avant Garde duo MORA PROKAZA have shared their third new single, "Im Not Yours,"

The song is taken by the band's third full-length, 'By Chance,' which is due via Season of Mist on July 3, making it their debut to the label! The up and coming experimental duo combine the ferocious sounds of black metal with the street vibes of trap, tinges of industrial, and out-of-the-box instrumentation, creating a sound that is wholly unique and groundbreaking that you must hear it for yourself to truly grasp the artistic genius behind the Belarusian outfit.

'By Chance' can be pre-ordered HERE.

Welcome to the unnerving and anger driven world of MORA PROKAZA where madness reigns! Just like MORA PROKAZA, the upcoming new opus ‘By Chance’ cannot be contained nor be put in one single musical category. A mixture between Avant Garde Black Metal meets New School Trap, integrated with the Belarusian arts roots that lay so deep within.

The band with the cunning name MORA PROKAZA was formed back in 2013 by Farmakon (guitars, vocals) and Isvind (drums). Both musicians have a long-term experience of playing in many local Belarusian extreme metal bands. The material for the first release “Bringer of Plague” was quickly composed and released in early 2015 and with that, MORA PROKAZA shared Russian stages with bands such as HELL SPIRIT, SUSPERIA, DARKEND, CLAYMORDS, MORIBUND OBLIVION and many others. In the winter of 2015, the band even supported INQUISITION in St. Petersburg (RU).

Shortly after the release of their debut album, Isvind leaves MORA PROKAZAand furious drummer Hatestorm joins the band commencing the recording of new material. With the addition of Hatestorm, the band opened up for new opportunities and In May 2015 the musicians present a brand-new EP "My Awakening" shorty followed by a new full-length "Dark Universe" (2016).

In 2018 MORA PROKAZA completely changed their approach to composing and sound concept and with the release of the single ‘Blacker than Black’, the band reinvented themselves with great feedback from fans all around the world. The band set out for new musical horizons and started recording a brand-new full length after signing a deal with Season of Mist.

Take what you will from ‘By Chance’. The underlying aggression in its purest form or perhaps the philosophical glance towards spiritual growth. In the end, WIMG?

ROYAL released their new single titled "Jungle" today via Intercept Music.

ROYAL may be new on the LA scene but they have been making quite a splash by growing their audience very quickly with their eclectic sound and electric live show. They have been waiting for the right time to put out their debut single to reflect its impactful and powerful message.

"Jungle" is available for Download/Stream:

https://ingroov.es/jungle-b

“I’m a child of war from the Congo Africa who was evacuated from home alone at the age of 12. Raising myself was the greatest education I could imagine. You only learn your strength in life or death scenarios. I was lucky enough to find music early on and ride its wings performing all over the world which includes Asia, Europe, Canada and the US, all since I was 15 years old. I’m driven by the belief that we are all individually special and that we all deserve equality, dignity and respect,” says Eric Zayne who formed the band last year.

He adds, "The band was formed as a political statement that we are all ROYAL and all deserve our place in the kingdom."

LA based ROYAL has managed to create a sound of their own by mixing hip hop, rock and pop. ROYAL has already gained great momentum on Soundcloud by boasting 2.8 Million plays before an official release for "Jungle" and has received praise from many veterans in the industry. Eric Zayne has been growing his name in the music scene by becoming an in-demand producer, having won the 2019 Hollywood Music Awards for his songs with Jeremy Renner that also became the theme for the Summer of Jeep. Having produced and worked with many names like Matisyahu, Jordan Sparks, Dallas Austin, Cee Lo Green, Randy Jackson, Richard Marks, Melody Thorton from Pussycat Dolls, 21 Pilots, BTS and many more. His ability to work on various and diverse projects promoted him to be a trusted ear in the LA music scene. ROYAL is a name for the people more than the band. It’s mission is to awake and remind the listener of their value. With an album completely finished and a lot of label interest, the band feels like now is the perfect time to empower and shine a light on injustice as well as use music to be a journalistic tool while encouraging healing.

VREID Announces 'In the Mountains of Sognametal' Livestream Concert

Image 6-9-20 at 4.31 PM.JPG

Norwegian metal veterans VREID have announced a unique, free livestream event, 'In the Mountains of Sognametal.' With the world at a standstill and all shows for 2020 cancelled, VREID decided to open the gates and invite you all to their home mountains on the west coast of Norway. The band's history reaches back to the mid 90s and this will be a journey through their musical history with a live session against a spectacular natural backdrop. The stream will be available on Season of Mist and VREID Facebook pages on Saturday, June 13 at 12:00 P.M. PDT // 3:00 P.M. EDT.

In addition, the band has also teamed up with various media outlets in nearly 20 different countries for the event! In North and South America, the stream can also be viewed live through the following media partners:

Decibel Magazine (USA + Canada)
Domination Festival (Mexico)
Jedbangers (Argentina)
Roadie Crew (Brazil)

Composer and bass player Jarle Hváll Kvåle comments: "The extreme nature and the history of our dear hometown Sogn has always been a huge inspiration and important factor of our musical universe. So, when we can’t travel the world to meet you, we decided that we will bring you all to our natural habitat. We will do a show at my own mountain farm in the Sogndal valley. It’s been in my family for generations and is located in some of Norway’s wildest and most spectacular nature. This is where a lot of our music is written, and this is where our roots lay. It surely will be a unique experience with a special setlist. We will perform songs that we have never done live before alongside live set classics. Welcome to the mountains of Sognametal."

Earlier this year, VREID announced their participation in the prestigious "Songs That Changed the World" project. The band were commissioned by the Nobel Peace Center and Inferno Metal Festival to interpret and cover a song about freedom of expression. The event was slated to take place at the Nobel Peace Center on April 7, 2020, but has been postponed due to the pandemic. The new date is TBD.

VREID will be supporting their latest full length 'Lifehunger,' which was released in September 2018. Listen to the full album HERE.

VREID were formed in 2004. The Norwegian metal brigade rose from the ashes of WINDIR after the tragic perishing of the "Sognametal" legends with the declared mission of exploring new musical paths.

The Norsemen proved true to their words and have so far delivered 7 albums and one DVD, which each received high praise from critics and fans alike. VREID chose a course of constant evolution that is marked by thematically denoted phases regarding their often historically inspired lyrics.

This became particularly clear with albums 'I Krig' (2007) and 'Milorg' (2009), which both revolved around concepts dealing with resistance and liberation of Norway during World War II. With their following three records, VREIDreturned to their Norse roots, especially on latest full-length, 'Sólverv' which received high critical acclaim in 2015.

VREID have hammered out their success partly by being a heavily touring band. The four-piece performed more than 500 shows in 25 countries so far. Their everlasting march to conquer new territories has led the Norwegians to headline tours in Europe, North America, Japan, and India.

VREID's style is often referred to as black 'n roll and Metal Hammer UK described their music as "a unique time travel in metal" as elements of 70's rock, 80's classic metal, and Norwegian black metal are all clearly audible.

Now with eighth album 'Lifehunger', black 'n roll is back! With eight brand new tracks, VREID are ready for the next chapter.

GAEREA Shares Second New Single, "To Ain"

Cathartic black metal outfit GAEREA have shared the second brand new 'To Ain,' taken from their upcoming album, 'Limbo.'

GAEREA comment on the single: "'Slaves of our own creation' and the dismantlement of the lost society in its most natural and organic form. A majestical Ode to the Nightmare of Existence and all its flaws. 'To Ain' is for all of you forgotten souls who have fallen into the most morbid and putrid Hole. A Place so below you might never reach to the surface again. Towards the Earth. Wondering the Abyss, To Ain. Being this song one of the most raw and intimate pieces Gaerea has ever written, this visual content serves its unique purpose of bringing the most grotesque truth upon us all. In this One Single Shot Performance we embrace what really makes us human: our Agony towards our very last breath. With no Gimmicks, no cuts, no edits, let this performance show you a brighter glimpse of what we feel, cry and crawl among our Fallen, Vast, Void Society."

Psycle has released their lyric video for their third single "Last Chance for the Saints."

Last Chance for the Saints is the third single off of the highly anticipated new album from Psycle "Kill the Machine". Kill the Machine is due to be released...

Kill the Machine Download/Stream link: https://ffm.to/killthemachine

The band will release their new album titled Kill the Machine via The Label Group/INgrooves on June 12, 2020.

"With our 3rd single "Last Chance for the Saints", we wanted to have a song that showcased our influences and encompassed the sound of the band as a whole. This song deals with the damage that has been caused by the opioid epidemic in our country and how others continue to make money off of this damage. Addiction is something that has touched so many of us in so many ways. This song hopefully takes a stance against the destruction of so many of those we love" says Seth Salois.

Solid, Hard Driven, Melodic, and Strong are just a few words to describe the music of Psycle. This 4 piece consisting of Front man/Guitarist Seth Salois, Drummer Jay Spyne, Bass player/Vocalist Mike Kaz and Lead Guitarist Joe Nicolazzo are ready for whatever is thrown their way. Joining forces in 2016 Psycle has continued to work on one major thing...writing a better song than the last. Psycle released their EP Surfaces in September 2017 and received amazing reviews, winning 3 awards at the Stone Chrome Radio Awards show for Breakout Band, Vocalist of the Year and Drummer of the Year. Psycle was the only unsigned act to even be nominated. The band continued to push their most recent single "Face the Fire" to #1 status on Radio Vegas Rocks for several weeks and even had a second single "The Road I'm On" come in at #2 at the same time. With the success of Surfaces, Psycle began writing their follow up and have been working for the past year and a half crafting each song for its anticipated release. The guys were able to play several amazing shows opening for BobaflexProspect Hill and playing the main stage at the East Providence Heritage FestivalPsycle has just finished recording their full length follow up album titled Kill the Machine with producer Chris Piquette at No Boundaries Studios.

Worshipper Releases New Single "Lonesome Boredom Overdrive" On Bandcamp

Tee Pee Records artists Worshipper have released a new single today June 5th on Bandcamp. The new track is called "Lonesome Boredom Overdrive" and you can stream and download it HERE. The song will be available on all other DSP's this coming Monday June 8th.

The band decided to release "Lonesome Boredom Overdrive" today because Bandcamp is waiving their share of sales to support artists impacted by Covid-19, including those donating their share to organizations in support of racial justice and change.

Vocalist/Guitarist John Brookhouse comments on the song,

"Here’s a song that we recorded and mixed for our last record Light in the Wire, but couldn’t quite fit on there for one reason or another. (Run time, mostly.) At a time when many of us are stuck at home, not able to do the things we usually do to entertain ourselves, this song has taken on new meaning. Initially, I came up with the lyrics when I was feeling particularly drained by the daily grind, but now, it seems pretty apropos to put this song out, considering the title and the current dynamic.

This song began with a riff that Al came up with and it may actually be one of our heaviest songs. When we play it live, my head feels like it’s going to collapse, so that’s probably a good sign that a song is fairly heavy. It also has a decidedly Alice in Chains vibe to it, which, let’s be honest for a few of us in the band, was a pretty seminal influence, but was more of a happy accident than anything. So, enjoy! I hope this helps tame your boredom for a moment or two."

More On Worshipper

Creeping up from the North, Boston’s Worshipper is a dark new voice in heavy music. Drawing comparisons to such luminaries as Dio-era Black Sabbath, UFO, and classic-era Scorpions, Worshipper create something new and epic from the echoes of the past. Through their unique mix of contemporary and classic influences, WORSHIPPER prove that the soul of melodic heavy music still burns brightly.

Lineup:

John Brookhouse - Vocals & guitars

Dave Jarvis - Drums

Bob Maloney - Bass & vocals

Alejandro Necochea - Guitars

Chiasm Announces Release Of Away EP On Industrial Label COP International

Followed By Full-Length Album Missed The Noise In 2020

Listen To The Title Track Single Here

The Industrial-Electronic Project Of Emileigh Rohn

Features Collaborator John Fryer (Black Needle Noise),

The Legendary Producer Behind Depeche Mode, NIN

COP International—the label home of Stabbing WestwardDeathline International and Suicide Queen—today announces its newest release, the 5-song EP Away from industrial-electronic act Chiasm. The project of Detroit-based musician Emileigh RohnChiasm has become known for cultivating lush, eclectic, eerily dystopian sonic landscapes with delicately balanced vocals for the past 20-plus years.

The Away EP, led by the title track single (listen here, in the “releases” section), features writing and musicianship from collaborator John Fryer (Black Needle Noise), the noted producer whose credits include Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, 4AD, Cocteau Twins and Love and Rockets. The EP comes in advance of Chiasm’s full-length album, Missed The Noise, to be released later this year.

“The COP team, along with John Fryer, really knew what I needed. It was absolutely a new adventure. This EP is much more accessible than previous works because we made it so quickly (John moves fast!) so there wasn’t a lot of room for total introspection and intense analysis, which is unusual for me. John makes everything sound beautiful, and I’m so eager for everyone to hear it,” says Rohn. “I also need to acknowledge my home team, including the cats, for the inspiration and encouragement.”

The Away EP follows a long line of notable releases from Chiasm (established in 1997), including the 2001 album Disorder with the track “Isolated” that was featured in the television show NCIS as well as in the Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines computer game. Rohn has also collaborated with genre stars Attrition, Carphax Files, Jean-Marc Lederman, Third Realm, :10:, and Acclimate.

All of Rohn’s previous releases had been self-written, programmed, performed and produced in her Michigan studio known as the MausHaus. The music, and the project name (which refers to the optic chiasm, a crossing of optic neurons in the brain that allow people to have continuous and peripheral vision), are in dedication to her full-time career in the field of science.

Here is what the press has had to say about Chiasm:

"Emileigh Rohn's voice is somewhere between Bjork and kaRIN of Collide—soothing in sound and yet jarring in message” — Outburn Magazine

"What Kate Bush is to pop culture, Chiasm is to electronic music" — Zillo

"The often dismal character of the Motor City is known for inspiring a host of instrumental techno artists, but Chiasm (Emileigh Rohn) chooses to express her angst through very intimate and intense audio exorcisms
that juxtapose her ethereal, haunting vocals and confrontational snarls with murky, minimalist industrial sounds. … An audio diary full of electro energy and honest emotion that gives the idea of 'girl power' a whole new spin" — CMJ

"Emileigh Rohn's music is one of the often overlooked treasures of the dark electro/industrial genre"— LiarSociety

MUSHROOMHEAD Releases Cinematic Post-Apocalyptic Music Video for New Track "The Heresy"

Pre-order "A Wonderful Life" now: https://smarturl.it/MRH-AWonderfulLife Out June 19 Directed and Produced by Steve Felton Production by Co. SK1 Industries

Eighth Full-Length Album, A Wonderful Life,

Out June 19 via Napalm Records | Pre-Order HERE

Foster the future and nurture the land

Stitches and sutures, divisions in sand

Mass evacuations, Sanctions for land

It’s time we stand for something

Walking hand and hand

Top-charting heavy rock/metal machine MUSHROOMHEAD recently made their prodigious return with the announcement of their upcoming full-length oeuvre, A Wonderful Life – the eighth release of their benchmark career – scheduled for release on June 19, 2020 via Napalm Records.

A Wonderful Life clocks in at a whopping 70+ minutes with its four bonus tracks – leaving a total of 17 stellar compositions in its wake for fans to devour. Today – after impacting at Active Rock radio with the first of those compositions to be released, the single "Seen It All", and garnering over a million views on its accompanying music video in only a matter of weeks – the band has dropped another official music video for a new track "The Heresy", released last week to the acclaim of fans and critics alike.

Hair-raisingly dynamic and socially-inclined, “The Heresy” is a melodic, haunting rally cry featuring the stunning lead vocals of Ms. Jackie, which were recorded at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios in London. The new music video sees the band continue their tradition of releasing cinematic music videos of the highest quality, this time taking place inside of a post-apocalyptic bunker! Vocalist J Mann described the track as, “The soundtrack to a dystopian delirium, cinematic and surreal!"

MUSHROOMHEAD mastermind and drummer/percussionist Skinny says about the video:

“We wanted to do something a little more thought-provoking this time around. With the current state of the world going to Hell in a hand basket, we wanted to incorporate something that delivered the swift transportation of certain doom. The manufacturing of war power and the stockpiling of faith. The willful destruction of the past, the future, and ultimately humanity.”

Pre-Order A Wonderful Life HERE

Available in several enticing formats (see HERE), A Wonderful Life is accented by the sharp production of band mastermind/drummer Skinny, as well as the standout mixing prowess of Matt Wallace (Faith No More3 Doors Down), also recognized for his work on the band’s standout album, XIII.

At its start, an ominous choir invites the listener into A Wonderful Life – introductory track “A Requiem For Tomorrow” smoothly shifts into an industrial-metal inspired, grooving punch to the gut juxtaposed with a melodic, synth-laden chorus. This sets the stage for stocky, chant-worthy anthems such as “Seen It All” and hair-raising, politically-inclined tracks like “The Heresy” and “Carry On”, both featuring the sinister multi-voice attack of new full-time vocalist Ms. Jackie and returning longtime vocalist J Mann, with an extra strike from aforementioned new vocalist Mr. Rauckhorst on the latter. Tracks like “What A Shame”“I Am The One” and “Madness Within” will prove a treat for new and diehard MUSHROOMHEAD fans alike – providing the macabre inspiration followers have come to crave with a weighty dose of galloping drums and bone-rattling guitars, to boot.

MUSHROOMHEAD attacks track after track with a refreshed focus, delivering a carefully-curated selection of certified future hits. A Wonderful Life re-cements the band’s position as one of the most consistently impactful heavy bands of our generation.

A Wonderful Life will be available for purchase in an array of formats (click HERE) – including digital, CD digipak, and black or multi-colored vinyl – as well as in exciting bundle arrangements featuring limited edition skateboards and cover art t-shirts. Plus, all first edition vinyl pressings of A Wonderful Life include a cardboard punch out MUSHROOMHEAD mask. Hurry, many formats are available in limited quantities and are going fast!

ABYSMAL DAWN Premieres Candlemass Cover

ABYSMAL DAWN has scored the cover of Issue #52 of New Noise Magazine, which is out NOW! Along with an in-depth interview with mainman Charles Elliott, the issue will also feature an exclusive flexi disc of the band's brand new cover of CANDLEMASS' "Bewitched."

“We had some extra time in the studio, and we wanted to do something people weren’t expecting at all,” he explains. “No one expects me to do a lot of clean vocals or expects us to be influenced by a doom metal band with operatic vocals, but we definitely are. I think people were surprised, but we played it for a couple of people and they liked it, so we decided to go for it.”

You can order your copy or subscribe to New Noise HERE.

Moreover, ABYSMAL DAWN will be hosting a two-hour Gimme Radio special TOMORROW, June 5 @ 3:00 P.M. EDT! The band has curated a playlist for the show and will be present for a live Q&A! You can sign up for free and tune in at THIS LOCATION.

The band is supporting their new release, 'Phylogenesis,'  which is out NOW and can be ordered and streamed HERE.

American death metal masters Abysmal Dawn are back! After a six-year gap, the Los Angeles-based outfit and Season of Mist hereby present Phylogenesis. Not that Abysmal Dawn have laid low since the release of 2014’s lauded Obsolescence full-length. Far from it. They toured North America four times and hit Europe and South America for the first time. Meanwhile, founding member Charles Elliott opened his studio, Tastemaker Audio, to accelerate Abysmal Dawn's own recording needs, as well to act as a bridge to other bands in need of a knowledgeable and relatable audio technician. But the road to Phylogenesis wasn’t an easy one. Besides work-horsing it throughout the U.S., Canada, Sweden, Germany, the UK, Brazil, Chile, and beyond in support of Obsolescence, Elliott and crew managed through some of the lowest points in Abysmal Dawn’s career. Internal strife, administrative burdens, musical differences, and motivation all had their various ways with the Californians. Yet, from the darkest depths, they prevailed, heralding a new chapter in the group’s storied history. Indeed, Phylogenesis is Abysmal Dawn’s rebirth!

“There was a brief period after doing two months of touring back-to-back in the U.S. and Europe in 2015 that I almost felt like calling it quits,” Abysmal Dawn’s Charles Elliott says. "It was our first time in Europe and I just had a hard time enjoying it. The band had grown, and I was a bit tired of having to handle most of the managerial aspects of what we do. The joy had been ripped from things and people weren't getting along, and some people acted like they didn't want to be there. But we went our separate ways with some of the members and all of a sudden, the band was fun again. They went on to other things and we're probably all happier in the end. Sometimes, I feel it's a miracle this album or band even still exists. I've avoided swearing on our records in the past, but the album's opening line is actually, 'Fuck you all!' Maybe it's primitive by our past lyrical standards but it's genuine and it's the most heartfelt, ‘Fuck you, we’re still here’ I could put on a record. I’m glad we stuck it out because I think this is our proudest moment so far.”

To say Phylogenesis is an extension or continuation of Obsolescence isn’t exactly as straightforward as it should be. On one hand, all the Abysmal Dawn trademarks—technicality, brutality, and melody—remain ingrained in the songwriting fabric. On the other, the band’s fifth full-length is more cohesive, rhythmically sophisticated, and far more adventurous. Elliott calls it “a major evolution.” Certainly, the six years of constant refinement, edge smoothing, and transition adjustments have paid off. What started as jam sessions between Elliott, bassist Eliseo Garcia, and drummer James Coppolino in 2016 eventually turned into one-offs. That there was no time limit to put Phylogenesis together ended up both a blessing and a curse. Total creative freedom at very little expense is a dream scenario, something a band of Abysmal Dawn’s stature took advantage of for their magnum opus. But without a ticking clock and dollars burning, the pressure to focus was far less severe, resulting in delays and feature creep.

“It was basically James, Eliseo and me meeting up at my place, jamming on ideas, seeing what worked and tweaking them from there,” says Elliott. “With the exception of ‘Hedonistic,’ James wrote all his drum parts. Obsolescence was demoed with me programming all the drums since our drummer at the time had moved up north. It was what it was, but it was pretty frustrating at the time. Having someone to bounce ideas off of in real-time, helped in maintaining the joy and momentum of making this album. Once it was time to record bass and leads, Eliseo and Vito [Petroni; guitars] would trickle in when they had ideas. We had no real deadline and seemingly infinite time to do things. Admittedly, I think it was hard for me to focus on the lyrics, not only because of things in my personal life but because I was focused on getting the guys in to complete their parts so I could focus.”

Finish Phylogenesis they did, in fact. Under significant duress, Abysmal Dawn had overcome their roadblocks. The results of the group’s undulating professional and personal schedules aren’t to be trifled with, however. Opening track “Mundane Existence” is a firestorm of labyrinthine yet savage riffs, enraged vocals, and machine-gun drumming. It’s death metal personified, enlightened, and perfected. Elsewhere, tracks such as “The Path of the Totalitarian,” “A Speck in the Fabric of Eternity,” and “Soul-Sick Nation” (feat. Fredrik Folkare of Unleashed, Firespawn, et al.) pose real threats to the status quo. In all three, Elliott’s passion for and dominance of death metal’s tenets are tangible. But there’s more to Abysmal Dawn on Phylogenesis than customary ritual. From the ruthless groove of “Hedonistic” and the staccato stabs of “Coerced Evolution” to the late album gem “The Lament Configuration” and the blistering cover of Death classic “Flattening of Emotion,” the songs are designed to slay in ways we’re just beginning to understand.

“We’re a pretty brutal death metal band, but what I feel like sets us apart is that no matter what we do there’s always some underlying sense of melody and hooks,” Elliott says. “There are lots of bands that are ridiculously brutal. There are lots of bands that are over-the-top technically or are blatantly melodic. We combine all that but we try to write something that sticks with you over time; that you'll keep coming back to, and that works well in the live environment. We love all types of music, whether it's fusion or industrial music, and it shines through here and there. But in the end, though, we're a pure death metal band at heart trying to retain that old-school feel with an updated take for a new generation.”

Conceptually, Phylogenesis deals with the breakdown of social constructs humans have built over time. The album title is defined by the evolution of (or diversification) a species. So, Phylogenesis is an ironic take on Elliott’s observations, particularly how social media has accelerated and exacerbated the de-evolution of humanity’s interactive abilities. The cover art, again by Swedish artist Pär Olofsson, isn’t directly correlated to the lyrical narrative, but it does continue where Obsolescence left off. The Olofsson cover art has envisioned what it’s like on the inside of the Obsolescence tower, and that it’s humans that are being fed back to humans. The cover art continuity is akin to Richard Fleischer’s famed Soylent Greenfilm but ripped through Elliott’s demented death metal lens.

“I think the lyrics deal a lot with things we encounter in our modern society and the effect it has on the individual,” says Elliott. “The dehumanization effect and divisiveness caused by bickering on social media (‘The Path of the Totalitarian’), the decay of legitimate journalism (‘True to the Blind’), struggling to find purpose in the pursuit of happiness (‘Hedonistic’), wishing something was greater than yourself (‘Mundane Existence’), the mental illness epidemic (‘Soul-Sick Nation’), embracing pain over numbness to feel alive (‘The Lament Configuration’), having our consciousnesses uploaded to a grid in order to make life sustainable on Earth (‘Coerced Evolution’), and the common theme throughout the band of wishing life on Earth would just start over (‘A Speck in the Fabric of Eternity’). I had started off wanting it to be a concept record but later scrapped that idea because I didn't like how it was going. In the end though, it just naturally all tied together in some way. Even the Death cover seemed to fit lyrically in hindsight. ‘Coerced Evolution’ is really the only song that in the sci-fi vein this time around. As for Pär, yes, he did the cover art once again. We love working with him and we’ve been creating great covers with him since 2006.”

Abysmal Dawn recorded Phylogenesis over a multi-year timeframe. In fact, Coppolino’s drums were tracked as far back as 2017 with long-time collaborator John Haddad at Trench Studios. The rhythm guitars and vocals, as produced by Mike Bear and Elliott, were also done at Tastemaker Audio the same year. So, some of Phylogenesis goes back, but the parts are no less lethal. Slowly but surely, the group’s newest and greatest materialized, with Elliott finishing the lead guitars, bass, additional vocals, re-amping, and mixing sessions in 2019, again at Tastemaker Audio. Abysmal Dawn then packaged up their fifth for mastering ace Tony Lindgren (Rotting Christ) to handle at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden. Contemporary yet absolutely remorseless, Abysmal Dawn’s Phylogenesis is death metal for a new age.

“We took our time and went to few studios this time around, so it’s a bit of a laundry list,” Elliott says. “John Haddad engineered the drums at Trench Studios. John has been involved with all our records in some form since From Ashes. Mike Bear helped track and produce the vast majority of my vocals and rhythm guitars out of my studio. Mike produced both Leveling the Plane of Existence (2010) and Obsolescence. I tracked and produced all the leads, bass parts, and other odds and ends and mixed the album as well. Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios mastered the record in the end.”

As for Abysmal Dawn’s next steps, the quartet await the release of Phylogenesis. With past support coming from the Village VoiceDecibelPopMatters, and Pandora, as well as the group's rabidly-devoted fanbase, the future of death metal is in good hands.

The Celestial, Conceptual Follow-Up to 2017’s Apex Drops August 21, 2020

Colossal, heart-stopping and heavy-as-hell while often exploring a noteworthy aura of addictive pop sensibility, Abyss further proves the indelible songwriting and technical talents of UNLEASH THE ARCHERS – not only reinforcing how high a modern band can soar within the atmosphere of power metal, but introducing an unbridled array of diverse sonic elements into the fold. Poised to make its mark amid a new generation of epic metal concept albums, listeners will be itching to hit replay within seconds of its satisfying end.

Beginning with a dreamlike acoustic introduction accented by the smoky beckonings of singer Brittney Slayes, opener “Waking Dream” quickly punches into a colossal wall of sound, setting the stage for the auditory escape that is Abyss. Powerful anthems such as the immense power metal-encapsulated title track “Abyss” and metallic pop-tinged earworm “Through Stars” conjure classic elements while maintaining an entirely fresh, forward-thinking approach. Guitarists Andrew Kingsley and Grant Truesdell turn heads with wicked work on stellar tracks such as “Legacy” (fans of artists like Devin Townsend and Astronoid, take note), while Slayes showcases her incredible vocal diversity and range on mighty epics like “Return To Me” and “The Wind That Shapes The Land”. Drummer Scott Buchanan makes technical strides on burners “Soulbound” and “Faster Than Light” – setting breakneck twists and turns ablaze with his bandmates. UNLEASH THE ARCHERS rounds the edge of Abysswith throwback-hued “Carry The Flame”, and wraps up with the soaring, rewarding concept closer “Afterlife”.

Thematically, Abyss is the direct sequel to the band’s 2017 album Apex. Frontwoman Brittney Slayes explains about the concept:

“Our protagonist, The Immortal, is once again awakened at the beginning of our story, but this time he is in an unknown place: a ship out in deep space. He wanders alone for a time, reflecting on his misdeeds, searching for his new master. Finally, he finds him, and learns that it is the Grandson of The Matriarch, our antagonist. The Immortal had taken The Grandson’s father away some sixty years before, to be sacrificed by The Matriarch in a ritual to achieve immortality (the events from Apex) and now the Grandson seeks revenge against The Matriarch with the aid of her own weapon, The Immortal.

This album is a classic take on good versus evil, light versus dark, The Grandson versus The Matriarch, but it also uses the ‘person versus self’ literary device in that The Immortal is battling with the good and evil within himself, and must decide in the end if he is simply a tool for others to use, or a man with free will and the ability to choose his own path; a struggle I think every human can relate to.”

Abyss was once again engineered, mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen of Hansen Studios in Denmark (Volbeat, Delain, Amaranthe), with production by guitarist Andrew Kingsley. Additionally, transcendent closer track “Afterlife” features orchestration contributions from Francesco Ferrini of Italian symphonic death metal machine Fleshgod ApocalypseFans will notice that, unlike on ApexAbyss incorporates a weighty dose of synth in the mix, and for the first time ever, all tracks were written on seven strings – adding to the massive expanse of the album’s sound as it explores the celestial realm.

As mentioned, the Deluxe Earbook edition of Abyss features two bonus tracks – synthwave and gothic folk-pop versions of “Abyss” and “Soulbound”, respectively. This is something UNLEASH THE ARCHERS has never done before, turning their singles into something completely different!

Brittney Slayes adds:

“I hope you enjoy our alternate interpretations of “Abyss” and “Soulbound”, because they honestly show a side of us as musicians that we probably wouldn't be able to showcase otherwise.  We all listen to a lot of different genres of music, but these two bonus tracks give huge insight into the music we were listening to as we recorded Abyss... not just metal, but synthwave, pop, and even a bit of country!”

UNLEASH THE ARCHERS is:

Brittney Slayes - Vocals

Scott Buchanan - Drums

Grant Truesdell - Guitar, Vocals

Andrew Kingsley - Guitar, Vocals, Synth
