CYNIC Shares Behind the Scenes Artwork Video + Exclusive Interview via Heaviest of Art

Progressive rock legend CYNIC will be releasing its highly-anticipated new full-length, 'Ascension Codes,' on November 26 via Season of Mist! Guitarist and founding member Paul Masvidal is now sharing an intimate one on one conversation with 'Ascension Codes' cover artist Martina Hoffman. In addition, Masividal has also done an exclusive interview with Heaviest of Art regarding this powerful collaboration. You can watch the video, see exclusive behind the scenes images of the artwork, and read Masvidal's interview at THIS LOCATION.

Cynic's Ascension Codes is a remarkably far-reaching work, and if nothing else, a clear indication that they have landed in a place of mastery. The album, paradoxically, acts as both swan song and rebirth. The band has recently released the mind-bending first single, "Mythical Serpents," which can be heard at THIS LOCATION. A video for the song will be coming at a later date... stay tuned!

Track six, "Mythical Serpents," is imbued with propellant adventure, exciting peaks and valleys that tug at the heart while its mathematical sequences challenge the head in a dizzying push/pull dynamic. It’s that quintessential Cynic approach of kaleidoscopic intensity and mannered discipline. Ascension Codes was mixed and co-produced by Warren Riker, who worked with Aeon Spoke, Cynic in the Traced in Air era and mixed Paul Masvidal’s solo acoustic trilogy.

Pre-orders for 'Ascension Codes' are now live at the Season of Mist E-Shop, the CYNIC Bandcamp, and official CYNIC shop.

ICYMI: Masvidal recently shared a touching tribute to late bassist Sean Malone, who died on December 7, 2020. To commemorate Malone's legacy, CYNIC has released a never-before-heard recorded performance of the song "Integral," in which Malone performs fretless bass. "Integral" was originally released as a solo guitar and vocal track on Cynic's 'Re-Traced' EP. The emotional tribute can be found at THIS LOCATION.

As an act of support, CYNIC is inviting fans to donate as you wish for the "Integral" song download, which comes with a guitar/bass transcription of the song and an instrumental (no bass mix) to play along with. 50 percent of proceeds will be shared with suicide prevention organizations: To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) and The Trevor Project. The remaining will go towards funding a documentary about the lives and artistry of Sean Malone and Sean Reinert.

Attainment

Cynic’s continual state of development has met its share of challenges over the years, hurdles that threatened to dismantle the entity’s forward surge. Yet through hurricanes, breakups, and assorted acrimony both personal and existential, it remains inspired to create.

Their name is synonymous with what it means to be truly progressive in music. Cynic’s top-tier performance acumen and cerebral/spiritual/yogic themes finds them inhabiting a corner of the musical spectrum all their own. Their Venn diagram shows intersections with death metal, prog rock, thrash metal, experimental, new age, jazz fusion, and a myriad of other sonic expressions.

Debut album, Focus (1993), is a certified classic. Although that era ended with transformation into the short-lived Portal, and then a further splinter toward Aeon Spoke, Cynic’s reunion-era has found them embraced in a way that proves how ahead of the times they were in the ‘90s. Through monuments such as the Traced in Air (2008) and Kindly Bent to Free Us (2014) albums, the Carbon-Based Anatomy and Re-Traced EPs, and a surprising rebirth with the “Humanoid” single of 2018, the Cynic legacy remains untarnished. Yet early in the creation cycle for their fourth full-length album, they experienced horrible events that tested the entity’s resolve.

Ascension

The year 2020 will go down in history as a tremendously difficult time for the global human population. For the Cynic family, the struggle was not restricted to a pandemic. It was two utterly senseless losses that threw the band’s immediate concerns into the background: the premature deaths of drummer Sean Reinert in January, at age 48, and bassist Sean Malone in December, at age 50, were shocking and unthinkable.

Reinert, a founding Cynic member since formation in 1988, was highly influential to a multitude of young drummers. His work on 1993’s Focus and Death’s watershed 1991 album, Human, found him sculpting extreme technical metal with a jazz fusion-inspired approach. Now taken for granted, that approach to the instrument and the genre was undoubtedly pioneered in large part by Reinert. Though parting with Cynic in 2015, his imprint on Cynic is inescapable.

The death of Sean Malone dealt another horrible layer of tragedy to Cynic’s 2020. In his many years with the band, Malone’s virtuoso playing meshed intuitively with Reinert’s. Together they formed a nucleus of kinetic, highly capable rhythmic dexterity that fueled Cynic’s celestial aims.

One of these deaths would have seemed unimaginable by itself. Both of them, in the same year, nearly broke surviving member Paul Masvidal. But the seeds of a fourth Cynic full- length existed long before the deaths, and the guitarist, through a haze of grief and disbelief, pushed forward. “I wanted to make this record right after Kindly Bent to Free Us,” says Masvidal. “I was raring to go, hyper-creative, in this total flow state. And then it all imploded.”

Parts of songs were in the gestation process as early as 2014. Masvidal says that Reinert and Malone heard elements of what ended up on the fourth album. Slowly, methodically, and with much careful deliberation, Masvidal eventually completed an album titled Ascension Codes, to honor the memory of his fallen band mates. And while the album honors the lives and contributions of Reinert and Malone, it also pushes Cynic forward for its own sake and through its own will to live. The album, paradoxically, acts as both swan song and rebirth. It is, throughout its 49 minutes, a vivid and highly cosmic journey into the very core of every impulse this band has ever explored.

Offering

As of 2021, the future of Cynic is unclear. Does Ascension Codes mark their final phase of growth? Surely the music finds them laying out a most ambitious trail of spiritual sonic travel, but to call any Cynic album “ambitious” is redundant. They are, by their very nature, an ambitious band. Yet Ascension Codes is a remarkably far-reaching work. Its nine main songs are infused with explosions of color and energy, and throughout these compositions are embedded the “codes”: “Mu-54*,” “A’-va432,” “Ha-144” and so on.

Though clearly an album best listened to in its entirety without distraction, for full impact, there are definitive Cynic songs here that stand strong on their own. “Mythical Serpents” is imbued with propellant adventure, exciting peaks and valleys that tug at the heart while its mathematical sequences challenge the head in a dizzying push/pull dynamic. It’s that quintessential Cynic approach of kaleidoscopic intensity and mannered discipline.

“Diamond Light Body” brings the album to a crashing close – heavy and celestial, with some melodic sequences that feel like new territory for Cynic. An incredibly dense song with inhuman patterns from Lynch, the song’s beautiful urgency and final moments push the album outward into the heavens: “I won't feed the fear / I’ll choose a different timeline / Ascend / All is flux, nothing stands still / Ascend.”

The expanded Cynic collective maintains focus on Masvidal’s vision, each human element adding to the compelling overall result. Truly, if this is to be the final artistic stroke by Cynic, then they have landed in a place of mastery. The stories told by Focus, Traced in Air, and Kindly Bent to Free Us are now completed with Ascension Codes.

Ascension Codes is perhaps the most ethereal sounding Cynic album to date, but also skews heavier than previous album Kindly Bent to Free Us. The expanded lineup is surely responsible for the album’s far-reaching scope.

After Sean Reinert’s exit from Cynic in 2015, Masvidal and Malone recruited drummer Matt Lynch. Found through a tip from Between the Buried and Me’s Dan Briggs, Lynch proved to be a perfect addition to the band. As Masvidal notes, Lynch’s “hybrid modern style is like a fusion of drum and bass electronic music influences combined with modern jazz/prog approaches. Lynch is a true original in that he's a fully realized drummer constructing his parts as carefully as any other compositional element always is on a Cynic record. Every single accent and note coming from him is birthed from a precise and inspired place.” We hear this throughout Ascension Codes, pushing the music along with finesse, adding shape and texture in ways only the most sensitive drummers can do.

But how to replace Sean Malone on bass? Masvidal’s answer: don’t even try. The lines of bass notes heard throughout Ascension Codes are performed on bass synthesizer by keyboardist Dave Mackay. A British pianist, writer, producer and Moog/vintage synth enthusiast, Mackay has toured with everyone from Art Garfunkel to Plini (the latter providing the initial introduction between Mackay and Masvidal). Based in Los Angeles and London, Mackay’s work is sensitive to Malone’s touch, while also adding a throbbing intensity that offers Cynic new low-end possibilities. “He's got a vast jazz harmonic vocabulary,” notes Masvidal, “which is what's needed in the context of Cynic's music, especially for bass lines. I knew that I could never replace Malone. Anyone I would find would be expected to play like him, and that's not fair to another musician. And things were too fresh for me with the loss of Malone, so I had to go somewhere new. With Mackay, I heard his groovy left-hand approach, and how musical he was across the board having played with a variety of musicians and styles. I realized he would bring something fresh to the table, and he provided a space for me to start again with a completely different instrument and forgo any traditional ideas I had about what Cynic bass lines should sound like.

Ultimately Mackay delivered above and beyond, with a real awareness of a bass player's role in a progressive trio context. First, by holding down the harmony and being “in the pocket,” while also creating an independent and dynamic voice within that space. Mackay has a rare combination of skills and the vibe he locked into with Lynch with sounds like a rhythm section from the future. Plus, his Moog synth tone offers a low-end depth that’s never been heard in our recordings.” On December 5, 2019, Dave Mackay shared the stage with Paul Masvidal for a performance of the guitarist’s solo material. On bass that evening was Sean Malone. After the gig, Malone told Masvidal, “We should bring Mackay in for the new record.”

Michael Berberian, president and founder of Season of Mist Records remained close to Masvidal throughout the 2020 losses of his bandmates. Michael states “I have, by now, released close to one thousand albums. None have been more dramatic, none have even been more difficult than this one. I can’t listen to Ascension Codes without goosebumps, a mixed feeling of pride – because it’s a musical milestone, but it also contains a lingering layer of sadness. I hear Paul’s pain on this record. I can feel it, I can touch it. But it’s transcended. ‘Art is to console those who are broken by life,’ said Van Gogh. Here is a demonstration of that.”

Ascension Codes was mixed and co-produced by Warren Riker, who worked with Aeon Spoke, Cynic in the Traced in Air era, and mixed Paul Masvidal’s solo acoustic trilogy. “Riker’s a wizard who gets inside the music and commits. He expands boundaries as a mixer, always finding new ways to push the sonic envelope,” says Masvidal.

Keeping things in the family, Martina Hoffmann’s original painting entitled ‘The Landing’ graces Cynic's new album Ascension Codes with breathtaking scope and presence. The visionary work inspired by Martina's time walking the beaches of Brittany, France after the death of her longtime partner, the artist Robert Venosa (whose artwork adorns all Cynic releases between 1993 and 2018) followed by the loss of her mother, the subject of the piece features the arrival of a great mothership made of light and flesh, not machine but an organic entity that has brought hope and infinite possibilities. Masvidal says of Hoffmann, “Martina’s art has always held a special place in my heart, and I'm deeply grateful for her love and support. When I first contacted Venosa as a teenager, it was Martina who encouraged him to lend his work to the band, because she heard something in our music. She is like the divine mother in this Cynic/ Venosa lineage," Masvidal says. "Her spirit and multidimensional talents are truly a gift to this world. I feel that she is one of the great artistic voices of our age."

The struggle to attain ascension is as important as ascension itself. And after much searching, Cynic have again achieved oneness with the numinous. At a time of possible exit for the entity, Ascension Codes is Cynic reaching a previously-unknown state of enlightenment.

Credits and Lineup:

With Masvidal, Lynch and Mackay at the core, Cynic utilized a variety of other artists to help achieve their vision for Ascension Codes, some of the key players include:

DARK (Roopam Garg) performs as “code worker” on the album, providing harmonic, harp-like guitar textures. DARK also known for his other works with “The Surrealist” is an experimental, ambient artist, pushing the avant-garde guitar envelope using extended techniques and consciousness inspired soundscapes.

Max Phelps contributes “holographic-reptilian-voices” on multiple tracks. Phelps toured with Cynic in the Carbon-Based Anatomy and Kindly Bent to Free Useras, and his own progressive metal band, Exist, have released music on Prosthetic Records. Phelps also took part in Death tribute band, Death to All.

Plini guest solos on “The Winged Ones.” Plini is an an Australian guitarist and composer, producing heart-fueled, progressive instrumental rock. He opened shows for Cynic in Japan, which happened to be their final live performances as a trio with Reinert/Malone.

Additional contributors:

Anrita Melchizedek is a renowned priestess, healer, galactic ambassador, among other pursuits, and provides vocals to the opening and closing code interludes (“Mu-54*” and “Ec-ka72”). Amy Correia and Joshua Leon vocalize light language and phrases on various code interludes. Amy appeared on Traced in Air and 2011’s Carbon-Based Anatomy EP,and plays with Masvidal in the Onward with Love (OwL) project. Michael Devin plays crystal bowls on some of the code interludes. Devin is also a bassist and has played with the Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin Evening, George Lynch, and Whitesnake. Ezekiel Kaplan contributed a vocal harmony to the final track “Diamond Light Body.”

OUT TODAY: THE KUNDALINI GENIE 'First In, First Out' (Psych Rock/ Shoeg

"Wholesome. So I was bound to love them... it’s all a reverie anyway, one you don’t want to wake up from" ~ More Fuzz

"Mesmerizing... hypnotically pushes with fiery guitar cycles, shadowy bass line, muffled drum thumps, and dispassionately droning vocals... The Kundalini Genie deliver solid melody, hooks and tides of effects-pedal-induced mayhem" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"Some of the best psych rock music currently being made anywhere. The kind whose ripping tunes do a number on your head and afterwards leaves you thanking them" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"A glowing tangent of slow tripping beats, packed into kaleidoscopic soundscapes of synths, guitars and fuzzy vocals... could be an ode to the lurching ‘stoner blues’ heyday of the 90s, like Craig Nicholls, Richard Ashcroft and John Squire in bed together with fresh sheets on" ~ Urbanista Magazine

"A psychedelic rock‘n’roll band unlike any other. Spaced out drones, druggy melodies, a hammering rhythmic section and an eccentric, high octane frontman leading the charge" ~ It's Psychedelic Baby Magazine

mail-169.jpeg

Scottish psychedelic rock’n’roll outfit The Kundalini Genie has announced they will release their fifth studio album 'Half In, Half Out' by the end of 2021, following up their '11:11' album via Space Ranch Records (Europe) and Little Cloud Records (USA) in 2020. Ahead of this, they present the title track 'Half In, Half Out', a powerful offering to whet our appetites for the long-player.

The Kundalini Genie is focused around singer-songwriter Robbie Wilson (sitar, guitar, vocals) and also involves Jason Houston (guitar, vocals), Melissa Rennie(guitar, keys, vocals), Lloyd Ledingham (bass, vocals), Louis Martin (guitar, vocals) and Grant Robertson (drums).

"This song is about assholes, really. People who aren’t nice. People who think they’re better than you, or too cool for you, or higher and mightier than you, it’s also about when those people inevitably fall short of their own high opinion of themselves and make themselves look a fool, in a nutshell," says Robbie Wilson.

This album was mixed by Jason Shaw (Cambodian Space Project, Frankie Teardrop, Sonic Jesus, Aerofall) and mastered by RIDE's Mark Gardener at OX4 Sound Studio in Oxford,.

"Robbie Wilson (Kundalini Genie) is a total force and a total star in the making . He’s so driven and I loved mastering his record," says Mark Gardener.

Emerging from the nether regions of Glasgow, The Kundalini Genie has been blowing minds globally with music characterised by droning hypnotic fuzz rock, 60’s British Invasion-inspired melodies, transcendental sitar, and dreamy, spaced out soundscapes.

Their sonic journey ranges across the spectrum of their own musical influences - The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spiritualized, The Dandy Warhols, The Warlocks, The Beatles, The 13th Floor Elevators, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Black Ryder and Black Market Karma.

When not tapping into the intense space-gaze elements of Spiritualized, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Swervedriver, sauntering hypnotic guitars stride steadily forward as the sitar floats along, carrying the subconscious into a benevolent flow and inner journey.

With live shows involving eclectic displays of voodoo mojo and sound that ripples through the audience like a sonic tranquilizer, to date the band has performed in support of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Warlocks, The Underground Youth, The Myrrors, The Stevenson Ranch Davidians, Triptides, New Candysand Spindrift, in addition to participation in numerous festivals.

The 'Half In, Half Out' single is out now, available everywhere online, including Apple Music and Spotify. The full album is slated for release on November 12 digitally, on vinyl-style CD, and on aubergine-coloured 12" vinyl with reverse board artwork. It can be pre-ordered via Bandcamp, where the single is available as an instant grat download.

"As diverse as they are fantastic... reminiscent of TNT-era Tortoise... Sheer excellence, this is vacillating instrumental post-rock with an Americana tinge" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Quite stellar... this music lies in a beautiful no-man’s land between Tortoise, MGMT, Animal Collective and Foals" ~ The Big Takeover

"Impeccable and moving music that is this intricate, deep, shifting and tastefully orchestrated... flawless" ~ The Record Stache

"Gorgeous, astounding musical tapestry" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"Golden era post-rock mixed with sophisticated avant-pop" ~ Impose Magazine

"Ephemeral and immediate, existential yet grounded; a sort of alternative electronic folk... full of color and emotion, it resonates with the glow of an experiment gone right" ~ Atwood Magazine

NYC collective Star Rover present their new single 'The Springs', the second taster of their eponymous album 'Star Rover'. Set for release on September 30, a this is a cohesive yet eclectic statement, melding the improvisational energy of their live sets with the depth and fidelity of the studio to create something dynamic, aggressive, nostalgic and beautiful all at once.

Earlier, the duo (Will Graefe and Jeremy Gustin) presented lead track 'Ghosts of New York State', along with an animated video directed by Clara Trevisan, teasing this series of lyrically whimsical tales - half dreamscape, half reality.

"The Springs is the name of the town in Long Island where we recorded. The small beach house / studio where we recorded this music was very much a place, a refuge, an oasis etc. Some of the drawings even resemble the shape of the house. A strange beautiful connection that made everything feel that much better, and that much more finished," says Jeremy Gustin.

“Often I’ve found with music videos, the music supports the video more than the video supports the music. After sitting with this for a while, I got curious about adding some words and/or animation on top of the footage. I asked Clara Trevisan, who I’ve worked with now a few times. She’s very intuitive and I love her aesthetic. She’s a Brazilian living in in Port Alegre. She really only had the video to work off for ideas. She played with words about a place, an oasis, a refuge, being here or there, etc .. Her drawings were mostly of homes in places they may / may not be expected to be."

With the break in performances caused by the pandemic, Star Rover seized the opportunity to work on their music free of time constraints. Frequent collaborator and Grammy award-winning songwriter Jesse Harris produced the new record at his Long Island studio, a fruitful exercise of telepathic communication in spirited live takes, using those as springboards for sonic experimentation.

Working with engineer Vira Byramji, environmental sounds inspired the material. In several songs, one can even hear the buzz of insects and crashing waves in the distance, in addition to two musicians playing in a woody beach house room - no headphones, just the room.

Through early sessions playing together at Gustin's Bushwick loft in 2011, they bonded over their shared love of John Fahey, as well as the spiky post-rock of Deerhoof and Lightning Bolt. Later that year, they recorded their first record 'Western Winds Bitter Christians', a short lo-fi collection of grungy Fahey covers and distorted originals. Besides touring throughout the USA, Europe and Japan, they have both become in demand session and touring artists, working with the likes of David Byrne, Kimbra, Bill Frissel, Okkervil River, Sam Amidon, Marc Ribot, Delicate Steve and Nels Cline, among others.

Between touring and other recording work, Star Rover's writing developed towards futuristic post-rock, connected to the directness of folk melodies, leading to their 2018 album 'I May Be Lost But I'm Laughing', a more produced effort featuring such artists as Sam Evian, Shahzad Ismailly, Rob Moose (yMusic), Daniel Rossen (Grizzly Bear) and Sarah K Pedinotti.

The next year, Star Rover collaborated with Brazilian musician (and frequent Caetano Veloso collaborator) Ricardo Dias Gomes. They wrote and recorded 'This Whole Emptiness' album in Lisbon at the studio of Marcelo Camelo.

As of September 30, 'The Springs' will be available across digital platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music. The 'Star Rover' LP, released on October 15, can be ordered at https://ffm.to/starroveralbum or via Bandcamp.

The video, which was directed by Rob Zawistowski and Mitch Ray, will live premiere today, September 30, at the official Season of Mist YouTube at 11:00 A.M. PDT // 2:00 P.M. EDT! Watch and listen below.

ARCHSPIRE comments:

"CODE BLUE! CODE BLUE! We hope you have good insurance! The video for Archspire's newest single 'Drone Corpse Aviator' is basically one big malpractice suite, and these death metal guinea pigs are treated with ZERO bedside manner! The doctor is in, and he doesn't have any anesthetics (or ear protection,) so watch with caution! Post operative mortality is 100%, and all liability waivers have been signed - this is our most face melting track ever! CLEAN UP IN OPERATING ROOM 7!"

In addition to a European and UK tour this November, the band will be playing an album release show in their hometown of Vancouver, B.C. at the Rickshaw Theatre on October 30! Tickets can be found HERE.

"Drone Corpse Aviator" is taken from ARCHSPIRE's new full-length album, 'Bleed the Future,' on October 29, 2021 via Season of Mist! 'Bleed the Future' is available now for pre-orders at THIS LOCATION.

ICYMI: ARCHSPIRE also previously announced new European tour dates for November/December 2021. The band will be blasting through 12 cities at 350 bpm and a full list of confirmed shows can be viewed below. Tickets are on sale HERE.

Archspire’s JUNO-Nominated (Canadian Grammy) 2017 Relentless Mutationwas a cavalcade of speed and extremity — blasting, accelerating and, in partial reference to its title, “mutating” as each song unfolded, all the while rapid-fire, shotgun vocals blurred the lines between a man’s throat and additional instrument. It was, unquestionably, an innovation of sound and technique — Archspire had broken the speed barrier while creating songs memorable as they were unabashedly extreme for extreme metal. Thus, the pressure was already there to top Relentless Mutation when the band started to compile new songs in 2018. The global pandemic heightened the situation (read: no touring, expanded free time) and caused Archspire to turn inward and apply additional rigor to their songwriting process, albeit painstakingly so. But by the end of the fraught calendar year that was 2020, the band emerged with their fourth studio album, Bleed the Future

According to the members of Archspire — vocalist Oli Aleron, guitarists Dean Lamb and Tobi Morelli, bassist Jared Smith and drummer Spencer Prewett — they originally went into the making of Bleed the Future under the idea they would finish the album in between the various tours scheduled for 2020. Of course, none of that happened, prompting the band to do more pre-production than at any time in their career. Archspire then subjected the album’s eight songs to near-constant critiquing that ensured they came away with a product, that in their estimation, is their best to date.

“The benefit we had was that Relentless came out in 2017,” says Lamb. “Since then, we toured more than we ever did before. We had the viewpoint of ‘What do crowds like? What parts should we write more of? What parts do people give us good feedback on?’ We wanted to expand and write those parts more consistently — there are more hooks and when we do have hooks, we wanted to repeat those parts so people will know that this is the catchy part of the song.”

“The most important thing was that we had clever songwriting,” adds Prewett. “We wanted the album to be more accessible to more people but still keep it extreme, fast and technical. So, we changed our process this time. We recorded rehearsal every day and listened to what we did afterward. We’d then come back to the jam spot and change riffs and ideas based on what everyone was thinking about during the week. It resulted in an album that everyone was happier with.”

Archspire also had the stated goal for Bleed the Future that they wanted to get faster. While such a feat may defy reason given their previous output, the band wrote their fastest song to date — the album-closing “A.U.M.,” a cut that opens up with an audio recording of a German friend of Prewett’s who, according to the drummer, enjoys ragging on Archspire. Comedic clips aside, “A.U.M.,” caps off an album that pushes the boundaries of speed but also is textured — Smith’s ethereal basslines often serve as mid-song interludes, while Lamb and Morelli weave melodic, spiraling guitar lines that annihilate the fretboard during “Abandon the Linear,” “Bleed the Future” and “Acrid Canon.” Accordingly, the members of Archspire were keenly aware of the expectations placed upon them after the success of Relentless Mutation. The online comments regarding whether they could top

Relentless Mutation was also occasionally on their minds when composing Bleed the Future and prompted the band to ensure that all five members were happy with everything — down to the last riff, vocal line, bass run and drum pattern. “Audience expectation is really important,” says Lamb. “If we leave the jam spot and everyone is stoked on a song, it’s pretty likely that the audience will be stoked. We have the expectation of the audience but we also have to be pumped on the music. I feel the proudest of the music. We spent more time on the songs and got better at writing. I feel it’s better music.”

“It’s an extremely tedious writing process,” adds Smith. “If anyone isn’t feeling a riff, we scrap it and have to find something we’re all happy with. It can be super-frustrating in the moment, but in the end, we have something better. We want everything we write to be a step up and I think we achieved that with Bleed the Future.”

The album is accompanied by a concept developed by Aleron that begs the question: What happens when humans start giving birth to non-humans? Born from a weird dream the vocalist had, Bleed the Future’s concept does not have finality or a conclusion. It does, however, posit a few ethical dilemmas to ties into Archspire’s long-running science fiction themes.

“I thought about what if those things they were giving birth to could actually benefit them in the future so they wouldn’t want to reject them,” says Aleron. “What would happen to the humans that weren’t born? Would they go to a different dimension? I played with that whole idea because I hadn’t seen a horror movie where that was the theme. It worked for all the songs. The only social commentary is that people don’t know what they’re giving birth to — if you put someone on this planet, you don’t know whether they’re going to be good or evil.”

Bleed the Future was recorded in October and November 2020 at Flatline Audio in Colorado with producer/engineer Dave Otero. This was the second consecutive album the band worked with Otero. According to Morelli, the recording process was seamless. “Dave was already familiar with what we each can do individually,” he says. “This time, he was more prepared to tackle those elements. How he tracks was more focused on what we were capable of and I think it really shows here.”

As live show activity for 2021 hangs in the balance (Archspire currently has dates lined up for November), the pandemic has prompted many bands to re-think their new album release dates as well as how to stay visible in a world currently without touring. But, with a fanbase that has embraced the band’s online presence that includes playthroughs, tutorials and now, cooking shows (!), Archspire heads into the Bleed the Future album cycle the benefactors of their commitment to touring and, most of all, position as one of death metal’s most forward-thinking bands.

“We have a lot of awesome fans, so I think they’ll be there to support us and pick up the album because they like the music,” says Lamb. “We’re a self-managed band; we’ve been working with the same label for ten years and I think the outcome will be good. Would it had been better if we had been on a full North American tour starting a week before the album release? Sure, but I think people will come out and support us through other means. OUT FRIDAY: PAS MUSIQUE 'Amateur Radio' LP (electronica)

"A glitchy and eerie trip... proponents of an adventurous sonic thread, the electronic maestros we know as Pas Musique weave an instrumental path inspired by pioneers such as Zoviet France and NEU!" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Pas Musique recall an industrial that once was, such cacophonous and ominously bustling sounds from the likes of Throbbing Gristle, Zoviet France, or more modern wreckers of civilization like the Belgian duo Silk Saw" ~ PopMatters

"Constantly pushing the boundaries of electronic music... Like neurons firing impulses on all cylinders contrasted by lightly biting buzzsaw nicks, much electro-knob-twiddling and a menacing sonic undercurrent" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"Makes the incomprehensible seem familiar and easily digestible... covers an ungodly amount of musical ground without sacrificing listenability" ~ Slug Magazine

"A sonic painting where the colors have been replaced by sounds and where the style is totally abstract and into modernism" ~ Side-Line Magazine

"An appealing if appropriately bizarre flow to everything, and it would be difficult for me to call this anything less than effective sound art" ~ Scene Point Blank

Brooklyn-based Pas Musique present their new full-length album 'Amateur Radio', which also features a collaboration with Jeanne-Marie Varain, artist and daughter of FAUST's Jean-Herve Peron, on 'It’s a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl'.

These six new electronic, experimental krautrock-influenced tracks are being made available on white vinyl and digitally via NYC-based label Alrealon Musique. This is also the first time that the Faust cover, originally released on the 2019 'KRAUT! Covered' compilation curated by WFMU’s DJ Scott Williams, will be available on vinyl.

Not long ago, the band shared the tracks 'Don Cheadle Superhero', a smooth flowing futuristic motorik journey, as well as the glitchy and eerie audio-visual trip for the lead track 'Ancient Scottish Legend'.

The 'Amateur Radio' LP is mirrored by the same broadcasting term, using the radio frequency spectrum for purposes of non-commercial exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, private recreation, radio-sport, contesting, and emergency communication.

This album was inspired by the collective's U.S. tour in 2019 and recorded shortly after at Pas Musique headquarters in Brooklyn and mixed by All Real Sound. The tracks are dense and textured, mixing in field recordings captured during that U.S. tour.

Pas Musique was founded by Robert L. Pepper in 1995 as a solo project around abstract sound. It has since morphed into a collective that has gone through many variations of experimental, electronic iterations. Today Pas Musique is comprised of Jon V Worthley, Michael Durek, Jesse Fairbairn and Robert Pepper, having performed in 18 countries and collaborated with many great musicians, including Faust, Rapoon, ZEV, Philippe Petit, HATI, Chester Hawkins, Jim Tuite and many more. Pas Musique have

This album follows up 'The Phoenix' LP (2019) and 'Inside the Spectrum' (2015), the title track of which was released by Wire Magazine for its 'Wire Tapper' compilation. 2018's 'Composited Reality' was a collaboration with Rapoon, based on field recordings from the USA, UK and Indonesia.

On October 1, the 'Amateur Radio' LP will be released everywhere, including Spotify and Apple Music. It can be ordered directly from the artist on limited-edition white vinyl or as a digital download via Bandcamp.

OUT FRIDAY: 'Drone Etiquette' LP by THE PERSIAN LEAPS (indie rock/ power pop)

"Silky fuzz and solid hooks echo The Smiths, Orange Juice and Teenage Fanclub with great enthusiasm, and they never fail to recreate that celestial guitar jangle" NME Magazine

"While The Persian Leaps frontman wasn’t intentionally writing around politics, injustices, or the impending pandemic, some of those pent up agitations and reflections trickle out” ~ American Songwriter

"A little bit of R.E.M., a little bit Lemonheads. A dash of The Smiths, a hint of The Replacements. They appeal to fans of Throwing Muses and Tom Petty equally. They are the all-reaching, down to earth, good American indie rock that so many seek" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Unpretentious and infectious... vast riffs, euphonious vocals and pop sensibility. captivatingly pleasurable blustery indie rock"Louder Than War

"Truncated treatises in big-guitar post-punk power-pop"The Big Takeover

"Huge riffs echoing through your speakers, melodious vocals and the sort of pop sensibility we’ve come to expect from bands like Nada Surf"Austin Town Hall

The Persian Leaps present their new 'Drone Etiquette' album, released via Land Ski Records. Embedded on a magnetic alternative rock foundation, the latest musical output continues The Persian Leaps' tradition of producing power pop earworms with midwestern charm and an inherent element of 90s 'college rock'.

Hailing from St.Paul - Minneapolis, The Persian Leaps has gone through various lineups but has always surrounded principal songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Drew Forsberg, who explains, "The title “Drone Etiquette” came from an article about the dos and don’ts of flying remote controlled drones. However, “drone etiquette” could also describe the rules that we mindless worker drones follow in our daily lives. The cover art, which was inspired by Soviet propaganda posters, evokes our enthusiastic lockstep march towards a meaningless existence."

"This EP was an especially difficult one to record and finish. Because of the pandemic I was forced to abandon a lot of the comfortable processes I’ve used for years. The friends I collaborate with for recording and performances weren’t available in person because of health issues, so I tried a new approach. This time around, I recorded at a different studio and performed all the parts on the EP myself. I also got directly involved in editing the tracks for the first time, which took longer. Ultimately, though, I’m very happy with how the songs turned out. The EP doesn’t address the pandemic at all, but it’s very much a by-product of lockdown and what we all endured," says Forsberg.

Earlier, The Persian Leaps presented the lead track 'When This Gets Out', a song born of frustration during the Trump presidency, following up with 'Sweeps'.

The band-name 'The Persian Leaps' came to Forsberg in college while daydreaming during Greek Archaeology class. Writing solo music under that name for years, he finally assembled a band in 2012, releasing an EP every autumn until 2017. NME Magazine described their debut 'Praise Elephants' EP (2013) as “celestial guitar jangle”. From their sophomore 'Drive Drive Delay' EP in 2014 to their fifth 'Bicycle Face' EP, their music has been widely praised. Delivering one perfect power pop cocktail after another, they eventually released their 18-track 'Pop That Goes Crunch' anthology in 2018.

That year, the Leaps returned to their roots as a studio project, releasing the 'Electrical Living' LP in 2019 and the 'Smiling Lessons' EP in 2020 together with Jon Hunt, a musician and graphic designer who did the cover artwork for most of the band's releases to date. During the 2020-2021 pandemic, Forsberg recorded 'Drone Etiquette' EP as a solo effort, primarily due to lockdown limitations.

On October 1, 'Drone Etiquette' will be released on CD and online platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp.

Lzzy Hale from the record-breaking Grammy Award-winning platinum rock band Halestorm has joined forces with the Guitar String Jewelry Company, Strüng. Lzzy's played guitar strings, turned into bad ass rock jewelry, will raise money for MusiCares.

The one of a kind, limited edition necklaces and bracelets are made from the donation of guitar strings from Lzzy's played guitars from stage. We are so grateful to have her on board and can't wait to see what the future holds."

NEW VIDEO ALERT! L.A. Guns "Cannonball"

NEW ALBUM "CHECKERED PAST" TO BE RELEASED NOVEMBER 12, 2021

Long running hard rockers L.A. Guns have announced the release of their new studio album, "Checkered Past" on November 12, 2021. Today the band has released the video for the track 'Cannonball.' Watch it below.

Listen to the first single 'Knock Me Down' HERE: https://youtu.be/ZH8RSCh8Z-U

Pre-order/save "Checkered Past HERE: httrps://orcd.co/checkeredpast

Written and recorded during late 2020 and early 2021, "Checkered Past" sees Tracii Guns, Phil Lewis, and company continuing with the darker lyrical tone of the preceding studio albums, "The Devil You Know" and "The Missing Peace", while incorporating their classic rock influences into the mix. Heavier songs are mixed with bluesier, boogie inducing tracks and dark, introspective ballads, often harkening back to the first three albums the band made, but also pushing the band forward. When fans absorb the album as a whole, they'll see that the tracklisting is divided up into 'sets' or 'suites', where a sonic style is explored across multiple songs before moving on to the next, making for a remarkable listening experience.

L.A. Guns never looked like the pretty poster boys that so many of their peers did, but more the band that you would be terrified to bump into in an alley as they would likely be carrying switchblades and ready for a fight. But despite having many songs to back up that image, the band could also write powerful ballads (see the smash hit, “The Ballad Of Jayne” for Exhibit A of this argument) that showed there were some serious songwriting chops in the band. Those chops are on full display on the band's two most recent studio albums and the upcoming new album, "Checkered Past," arguably one of the most vital and exciting releases in the band’s catalog.

LINE-UP:

Phil Lewis - vocals

Tracii Guns - guitar

Ace Von Johnson - guitar

Johnny Martin - bass

Scot Coogan -drums

Alt-Metal Outfit SET THE SUN Release Debut Single "Invisible" feat. Ryan Clark of Demon Hunter

American-Canadian Alt-Metal outfit SET THE SUN have released the first single from their upcoming debut EP. The duo, known as Arc & Eris, wrote and recorded the record during last year's lockdown, which inspired them to delve into themes of isolation, division, and unspoken conflict on their first studio offering. The first taste of the new record comes via the new single "Invisible", which boasts guest vocals from Ryan Clark of Demon Hunter, as well as Thomas Freckleton from Silent Planet playing bass on the track.

Listeners can expect to see plenty of familiar guest artists on upcoming music from Set The Sun, as the group will often collaborate with a group of fellow musicians that they refer to as The Collective. Speaking about his involvement with the single "Invisible", Ryan Clark states:

Ryan Clark on the set of the "Invisible" music video shoot

"I believe collaboration at its best stems from mutual appreciation. When I first spoke with—and listened to—Set The Sun in the summer of 2020, it was clear that our collective interests and influences were aligned. I’m very particular with modern heavy music and I’m not often impressed with the trajectory of the genre. STS, however, has all of the components that excite me: major riffs, beautiful melodies, lush electronic textures, slick execution, and more. They’re heavy but not one-dimensional, progressive but not overly self-indulgent."

Clark adds, "These guys tick all the boxes for me, so collaboration felt natural. I’m honored to be a part of the band’s introduction to the world, stoked for the opportunity to contribute to a song that I genuinely love, and pleased to work with such talented and humble individuals."

Reflecting on Ryan's contributions to "Invisible", the band shares:

"With STS being a two-person writing team, we always enjoy taking a song to an outside artist to add new dimensions to it. We've been fans of Demon Hunter and Ryan's work for a long time and felt he would be perfect for this song, so we got in touch with him late last year. When we sent him the song last December to add his parts, it was such an easy and pleasant experience. Ryan knew exactly what to add to take the song to the next level. We're thrilled with how it turned out and can't wait to collaborate with him again!"

We Are PIGS in collaboration with Brian “Head” Welch and JR Bareis (KORN, Love And Death) are bringing attention to the challenges faced by our generation on the powerful new track, “Kids,”released today. Hear it here: https://onerpm.link/kids

The song which was produced, engineered, co-written and co-sung by Esjay Jones, the mastermind behind We Are Pigs, and was inspired by the HBO show “Euphoria.” As Jones says, “I was deeply troubled by its graphic and raw portrayal of sex, drugs, identity, social media and the difficulties of navigating life as a teenager today as seen on the sow. It was hard to watch. I spoke to Brian about the concept – initially thinking the message was, the ‘kids AREN’T alright,’ but as we started working together, we wanted to spread positivity, hope and purpose to youth with our words, and ‘kids are alright’ became the mantra.”

Adds Brian “Head” Welch, "Giving advice to young musicians over the years, the number one thing I tell them is to strive for uniqueness! There are so many copycats out there and the bands that stand out the most and have longevity all have a unique sound and quality to them that make them unforgettable and loved by many. We are PIGS are so unique! When Esjay sent me the track for ‘Kids,’ I was instantly in love with it! This band doesn’t sound like any other artist out there and I’m so honored Esjay asked me and JR Bareis to be a part of this track!”

Speaking of his reaction to the song, Corbin Dooley, creative director of Bikiniwax Records, says, “’Kids’ potently stimulates the vagus nerve with powerfully forward metal instrumentation, explosive melodies and hypnotically engaging vocal production. This absolutely masterful interpretation effectively dismantles my genre expectations.

Part of the proceeds from the sale of “Kids” will be donated to organizations We Are Moving The Needle and The Whosoevers Movement aimed at uplifting, empowering and providing education and purpose for today’s youth.

Says The Whosoevers Movement, “Our generation today faces many more distractions and problems than ever before. Drug abuse, depression, broken families, self-harm and suicide are just a few of the issues they have to overcome.” We Are PIGS hopes to provide a beacon of light with “Kids” and encourages fans to check out and support these organizations as well.

We Are PIGS is Esjay Jones’ alt metal hybrid project characterized with a pig-masked front woman that combines brutal riffs, brazen screams and ethereal melodies. After debuting with a cover of Slipknot’s “Duality” in 2020, followed by original single “Pulse Queen” in early 2021, We Are PIGS has found an incredible following and support through playlist placements on Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music. Recent releases have included “MOOT” featuring KITTIE’s Morgan Lander and “Blood Diamond,” a collaboration with M.O.B.

In addition, Jones has worked behind the scenes as a sought-after producer for acts including Grey Daze (Chester Bennington) and a soon-to-be-released collaboration with Billy Corgan.

About We Are PIGS/Esjay Jones

We Are PIGS is the alt metal hybrid with brutal riffs, brazen screams and ethereal melodies created by South African born producer / songwriter / artist Esjay Jones. In the summer of 2020, We Are PIGS made its debut with a cover of Slipknot’s “Duality” and the first original single “Pulse Queen” followed at the tail end of the year that has boasted 15 additions to editorial playlists between Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music. Esjay Jones has been highlighted recently by the Recording Academy as well as recognized for solely producing the much-anticipated second LP for Grey Daze (Chester Bennington’s first band), matching his vocals with collaborations from Dave Navarro, Richard Patrick (Filter) and Bennington’s 9-year-old twin daughters, Lila and Lilly. Esjay has also worked with Sean Kingston, Jeffree Star, Olivia Holt, Escape The Fate, Mystery Skulls with Nile Rodgers and Brandy, Chester Rushing (Stranger Things), Alien Ant Farm, and many others. Esjay has had over a decade of success in the music industry: during the first part, she cemented herself as one of South Africa’s top rock vocalists fronting Durban-based band Stealing Love Jones. The band achieved mainstream success with four #1 Singles, as well as sharing the stage with major international acts like One Republic, Fall Out Boy, Violent Femmes, Seether, Jimmy Eat World, and many more.

IRON LIZARDS Biography:

No fucks given. No trends. Iron Lizards blast their guitars and make music alive once again. Raw riffs, and with no unnecessary shit in their songs. Straight on, no fuzz, and loud screaming guitars. Iron Lizards make you feel the wild and dangerous side of rock’n’roll. They make you remember the hazy days of the alternative '90s. Combining the roughest part of music history, Iron Lizards are a true statement in this time and age. Be ready to testify, Iron Lizards will make your ear pukes of the loud and unfiltered joy of unsophisticated music.

Iron Lizards are a power-trio from Paris, France. The band was formed in 2015 by Elio with their goals already set; honoring the old gods of Detroit (MC5, The Stooges) whilst paying their homage to the 90’s action rock scene (The Hellacopters, Zeke, New Bomb Turks). This was then mixed with influences taken from everything from 60’s garage punk to 80’s punk hardcore (Zero Boys, Minor Threat, Gang Green) and psychobilly (The Cramps). Their first EP was released in 2016 by German JanML Records, following this with playing as the opening act for bands such as Get Dead, Zeke, Mammoth Mammoth, Sonic Wolves, The Hip Priests, and Christmas. In 2021 the band signed with Swedish The Sign Records to release their debut album: Hungry for Action.

Spiritbox Smash First Week Charts As 'Eternal Blue' Debuts At #13 On Billboard Top 200

Celebrate Huge First Week For Debut Album

Hits #13 On Billboard Top 200

Tops The Rock, Hard Rock & Vinyl Charts

"Eternal Blue will be remembered as a game changer, the kind of total reset of the rulebook we saw in Slipknot's debut, Pantera's Cowboys From Hell or (whisper it) Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory. One thing is certain. The metal scene may never be the same after this" - Metal Injection 10/10

SPIRITBOX's 'Eternal Blue', one of the mostly hotly anticipated debut albums in recent years, was released on September 17th to mass acclaim from both fans and media alike. Today, the band are thrilled to share that the album has more than exceed the overwhelming hype by smashing the week 1 charts, landing at #13 on the Billboard Top 200 and hitting the #1 spot across the Rock, Hard Rock and Vinyl charts, #2 on the Internet Albums and Independent charts and #3 on Digital Albums and Album Sales. 'Eternal Blue' also debuted in the Top 20 of the official charts in Australia (#8), Canada (#17) Germany (#17) and UK (#19). In the US alone, the album sold 22,638 copies in its first week and has clocked up an incredible 60 million streams. Find Eternal Blue on all streaming platforms here and stream the video playlist on YouTube here.

Speaking on the phenomenal success of their debut album, Courtney LaPlante and Mike Stringer share:

"To say we are overwhelmed by the reception to Eternal Blue is an understatement. We've literally spent the last 10 days trying to process it all. If you had told us when we started Spiritbox, back in 2017, or indeed, when we first started our musical careers years before, that our debut album would chart even in the Top 50 of the Billboard Top 200, we definitely would not have believed you. That it debuted at #13 is a total dream come true. The deepest, heart felt thank you to our incredible fans. We don't have words for how much your support means to us. This band would not be here if it wasn't for you. Eternal Blue is yours now. We hope we did you proud."

Sean Heydorn, VP - Rise Records adds

"I’m thrilled by the incredible charting Eternal Blue achieved first week. When Jason shared the band with me it was clear how special they are and I was blown away by what they built on their own. However, it wasn’t until they delivered the album that it became apparent there is no ceiling for them. This is a very special moment for the band, their fans, the rock community and the champions who have been behind them from the early days. We’re grateful they chose us as their partner and excited for the wild ride to come. This is just the beginning for Spiritbox."

Jason Mageau, Spiritbox manager at Roc Nation and owner of Pale Chord adds

"I couldn’t be more proud of Courtney and Mike, since day one they’ve had a vision like no other artist I’ve worked with. It hasn’t been an easy adventure, we were told no more times than I can remember but we knew that with hard work and trusting the process great things would come. We bet on ourselves and here we are 4 years later.

The charting and sales is not only a testament of the band and teams hard work, but a statement that the metal and hard rock community is not one to be overlooked."

SPIRITBOX arguably *the* hottest new band in heavy music, thrilled fans back in May with the official announcement of their long awaited debut album, ‘Eternal Blue’, selling out of all vinyl pre-orders within the first 24 hours of announcement. They released five songs prior to the album release. First came the unrelentingly brutal "Holy Roller" in September 2020. It debuted at #25 on Billboard's Hot Hard Rock Songs and charted as the #1 song of 2020 on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal. Then came heartbreaking and otherworldly "Constance" which recently re-entered the Billboard chats #1 Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, #4 Rock Songs Core Genre, #19 Hot Hard Rock Songs following the release of the very special reimagining of "Constance (Acoustic)". Next came the album announcement along with new track “Circle With Me which charted on Billboard at #1 Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, #5 Hot Hard Rock Songs, #9 Rock Songs Core Genre, #12 Rock Digital Songs, #50 Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, #71 Digital Songs. "Secret Garden" followed and most recently, "Hurt You".

In celebration of the album release, SPIRITBOX hosted a special Eternal Blue Pop-Up event in Downtown Los Angeles Arts District where fans could buy exclusive merch, vinyl, signed Items, and got to see an in-person Q&A with the band. Watch the wrap up video here

ABOUT SPIRITBOX

Named after a device some believe is capable of communicating with the dead, there’s a sense of the paranormal running through all that Spiritbox do, but this is a group of artists who are very much brimming with life and creating something remarkable with their music.

Characterized by fierce intensity, unwavering emotion and technical splendor, their debut full length album ‘Eternal Blue’ is destined to latch onto the hearts and minds of those who hear it. It is that connection between fan and artist that drives Courtney, Mike and Bill in all that they do as the Spiritbox phenomenon continues to grow bigger and bigger.

Having toured the world many times over with their previous bands - metal outfit iwrestledabearonce (Courtney and Mike) and pop punk band Living With Lions (Bill) - Spiritbox absorbed the highs and lows of living as working musicians and decided to try a different and more sustainable approach when it came to releasing their music. In doing so they quickly garnered a cult-like online following which has led to over 95 million streams across all platforms and sell outs on every physical release and most merch items they've released to date. Towards the end of 2020 they announced that they had signed with world renowned label, Rise Records in partnership with Pale Chord.

With the downtime created by the global pandemic, Lords Of Black worked incredibly hard to create music that pushed past the boundaries of anything the band had done in the past showing a newfound musical maturity from the band, incorporating new musical elements into their style. Vocalist Ronnie Romero (Rainbow, Sunstorm, The Ferrymen) delivers another vocal performance yet to be matched, guitarist Tony Hernando delivers some of the best melodic metal he has ever written, while bassist Dani Ciado and drummer Jo Nunez prove to be a powerful rhythm section so powerful who play with absolute finesse.

Like its predecessor, “Alchemy Of Souls, Part II” is setting a new gold standard for melodic metal in the new decade.

Line-Up:

Ronnie Romero - vocals

Tony Hernando - guitars

Dani Criado - bass

Jo Nunez - drums

"I was raised on unstable grounds. I stopped making excuses for those that have abused and abandoned me. An absent man that faintly titled himself as a “father” but neglected every simple duty of being one. A step father who looked for excuses to beat on me for years and throw me to the streets. I accept that this is the hand that I am dealt. I respect and appreciate the journey I am shaped and designed to travel. I am all I need. Thrilled to announce the unleashing of “all I need” says Joey Arena.

UK neo-folk duo Shrinari inspire on 'The Gift' single, debut LP forthcoming

"Soft-spoken pop meets a purifying Irish spring... Weaving musical tapestries with harp, guitar and vocals... a beautiful marriage of sound with song, drawing you in with frequencies and tones that seemingly connect with our organs and cells" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

mail-165.jpeg

British-Spanish indie folk duo Shrinari presents their single 'The Gift', a sweet taster of their debut album 'Hold On To The Hope, Though', slated for release later in autumn.

Based in London, Shrinari is a leading duo on the British spiritual music scene, who tour internationally. Comprised of Lucidia Omamori and Rafael Marchante Angulo, they incorporates harp, guitar and vocals into their music, which has a strong spiritual component and carries a message of hope, unity and connection.

Shrinari are committed to making music that brings hope, fuels a positive outlook on life, and promotes ecological and spiritual awareness, translating into song the many stages and phases of the human experience. With 'The Gift' single, Shrinari continue their transcendent adventure in consciousness and celebration of love and life through the synergy of sound and song.

"This song was born after a local walk, in which we discovered a hollow oak that had been used as a litter bin and set on fire. It’s a contemplation about what was lacking in people’s lives that they would feel such an absence of connection to the natural environment that they would treat it with such disregard. My intention was to inspire the awareness of the need to respect and protect our Earth Mother and all living beings," says Lucidia Omamori.

You could call this music genre fluid, sacred indie pop or spirit soul. You could call it high frequency or eclectic medicine music, Celtic or world folk. One thing is for sure - the collection of songs on their coming long-player 'Hold on to the Hope Though' intertwine the personal and the collective, giving voice to the challenges we are facing in these changing times. Always delivered with Shrinari's sense of optimism and hope filled wonder, their music reflects the point of no return that we are living through historically, together with the timeless themes of human existence and evolution.

"This moment in time feels like a crucial point. We’re in the middle of a bridge we’re crossing between what we have been and what we will become. This album is a bridge as well between many aspects: the personal and the collective, the ancestral and the contemporary, the magical and the mundane, logic and intuition, fear and trust, etc," says Rafael Marchante Angulo.

"These lyrics depict personal and profound moments of exploration and discovery in my inner and outer journey, articulating my process of understanding my inner conflicts, integrating the effect of witnessing and contributing to the destruction of this planet we have been gifted. This is a reminder to ourselves and others to hold on to the hope, to perceive and to experience beauty where it still dwells, and to take action to shift the balance in a positive direction for the future generations. A reminder to honour all the teachings we have received along the way on our diverse path of spiritual searching, philosophical understanding and to show up with deep conviction to love this planet and preserve the beauty for all life as a result of clarity I have received in moments of realisation," says Lucidia Omamori.

As of October 13, 'The Gift' will be available across online stores, such as Spotify and Apple Music. The full album 'Hold Onto The Hope, Though' will be released on November 24 and can be pre-ordered via Bandcamp, where this single and ‘Desert Path’ will be offered as an instant grat download upon purchase. A percentage of profits from this album and all of the duo's music goes to support projects to protect the earth and indigenous people living in accordance with nature.

HAMMERFALL - Launch Pre-Order For "Renegade 2.0" Anniversary Edition

Remember Wacken Open Air 2001 when ten thousand metalheads were roaring along with the chorus for "Templars Of Steel"? No? Well, let us refresh your memory with this legendary live footage from just that show. A song like a cry for a heavy metal revolution that really caught on to the scene!

To this day, "Templars Of Steel“ is a true highlight of every live HAMMERFALL show and is a track that captures the true essence of the band.

Frontman Joacim Cans remembers: “Oscar and I went down to Gran Canaria to write and finalize some songs for the 'Renegade' album. Somewhere in the constant 'haze' I still remember that Oscar played the riff to the song and it totally blew me away.

Couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into the hymn-like masterpiece and try some vocal ideas in my temporary studio built in the bathroom. This song became the opening track on the upcoming tour and created one of the coolest show openings ever when the draw bridge slowly started to come down during the pulsating intro to the song.”

Songs like the title track, the ballad "Always Will Be“, the ferocious opening track "Templars Of Steel“ or the pummeling "The Way Of The Warrior“ made the album the landmark release that it is today. From then on out HAMMERFALL kept rising through the ranks, becoming an institution in the metal world, and are responsible for the revival of traditional heavy metal in the post-grunge music scene. Almost 30 years, countless tours around the globe, and 11 albums in, HAMMERFALL are still going strong, being one of the most successful heavy bands to ever come out of Sweden.

Toronto postpunk/darkwave duo TRAITRS release beautifully caustic 'Mouth Poisons'

"A stunning offering... impeccable mélange of alternative dark pop and catchy goth-laced retro-futuristic soundscapes... among the fastest rising independent artists on the dark music scene" ~ The Spill Magazine

"A classic post-punk bassline into guitars that burn like a midnight frost, or the ember of a clove cigarette... surprising cinematic influences" ~ Post-Punk.com

"An otherwise fraught, near desperate theme inside a sonic structure that manages, some damn how, to simultaneously uplift... exemplifies what the fuss has always been about when it came to TRAITRS" ~ Stereo Embers Magazine

"These music mavericks create dark sonic greatness, with an element of hope furtively embedded therein" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"Channeling pent-up frustration and manic creative energy... a real highlight for post-punk fans" ~ Sonic Seducer

"Impeccable from start to finish... dark and introspective" ~ CanadianBeats

Canadian post-punk rising stars TRAITRS present their new single 'Mouth Poisons', the new taster of their forthcoming long-player 'Horses In The Abattoir', to be released in mid-November via Freakwave, a Berlin-based label that is part of the Schubert Music Europe group, with distribution by The Orchard. Not long ago, the duo released the single 'Oh, Ballerina'. with a short moody art-house horror film meets 80’s new wave music video, directed and edited by Shawn Tucker.

Recorded by and produced with Josh Korody (F*cked Up, Japandroids, Dilly Dally, Beliefs, Nailbiter) at Candle Recording Studio, the new output was mastered by Pete Maher (U2, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Prince, Linkin Park, Katy Perry).

Based in Toronto, TRAITRS was formed in 2015 by Sean-Patrick Nolan and Shawn Tucker. With a cinematic blend of post-punk, goth, alternative and post-rock, their emotive melodies, propulsive rhythms, angular guitars and dark cinematic electronics quickly led to the duo becoming one of the dark music scene's fastest rising independent artists.

“The core sketch of this song was written late at night at a very good friend’s place in Frankfurt, Germany. ‘Mouth Poisons’ is an extremely personal song and lyrically I set myself up as the main target. It carries an air of ‘come see what’s going inside of me that wants to burn down everything in sight’. Definitely my favourite single we have ever released to date," says Shawn Tucker.

“‘Mouth Poisons’ was initially supposed to be a fast, angular punk track and it remained in this form for several months until Shawn wrote the bass guitar part and completely changed the way I heard the song. His melodic bass line brought out a sadness and vulnerability in the track that I didn’t know was there. All of a sudden this frantic punk song sounded more like The Smiths or New Order, so I completely rewrote my synth part to tease out those elements even more. The break before the outro is one of my favourite parts on the album," says Sean-Patrick Nolan.

Early demos, recorded with Josh Korody, led to TRAITRS' 2016 debut cassette 'Rites And Ritual' with Pleasence Records. After gaining traction in Europe and North America, TRAITRS released their critically acclaimed 'Butcher’s Coin' LP via Pleasence Records / Manic Depression Records / Alchera Visionsin 2018. Bolstered by lead single ‘Thin Flesh’, the duo embarked on several lengthy tours overseas, performing in over a dozen countries with showcases at Wave Gothik Treffen, Castle Party, Extramuralhas, Nocturnal Culture Night, Wavefest, Canadian Music Week and Pop! Montreal.

Their relentless touring schedule and work ethic caught the attention of Thomas Thyssen and Eric Burton of Schubert Music Publishing and, in October 2020, they announced TRAITRS as the first signing to their brand-new record label Freakwave Records.

With the preceding limited 10’’ vinyl ‘The Sick, Tired And Ill’, which practically sold-out before its actual release, TRAITRS were able to triple their Spotify monthly listeners to >33k. In addition, lead single 'Magdalene' spent 5 consecutive weeks at #1 on the German Alternative Charts (DAC).

As of September 17, 'Mouth Poisons' will be available digitally everywhere, including Spotify and Apple Music. On November 19, the full-length 'Horses In The Abattoir' LP will be released on vinyl, CD and digitally. It can be ordered at https://orcd.co/horsesintheabattoir

COMEBACK KID - Drop New Single "No Easy Way Out"+Kick-Off East Coast Trek With STRIKE ANYWHERE On November 1st!

One of the biggest names in modern hardcore, Comeback Kid has released the fast-paced, riff-heavy banger “No Easy Way Out”. The track, which was recorded in Winnipeg, MB at Private Ear Recordingstudio, is the first new original music to be heard from the influential hardcore/punk outfit since their 2017 release Outsider. Listen to “No Easy Way Out” HERE.

"This was an attempt to conjure up an edge of your seat rhythm that stays the course but builds intensity the whole way through until the end,” said lead vocalist Andrew Neufeld. “The feeling of looking over your shoulder and running for dear life. This is a stomper hardcore tune with a pummeling pace. When you're pushed in a corner, there's no easy way out!"

Accompanying the single is an age-restricted music video conceptualized and directed by Kevin Keegan. Amplifying the tracks feeling of needing to escape but also running into the realization that that may be harder than what it seems, the video for “No Easy Way Out” is a captivating comedic mini-thriller that sees the band being chased by a psycho kidnapper in a forest in Western Canada.

About Comeback Kid
Over the last twenty years, COMEBACK KID has been hailed as one of the major counterparts when it has come to shaping and pioneering both the Canadian and international modern punk and hardcore sound and scene alike.

Having formed in Winnipeg, before later releasing their 2002 demo, and the acclaimed, Turn It Around in 2003 via California’s Facedown Records, the five-piece have undoubtedly over the years been able to balance a DIY ethos and dependability, with that of a humanitarian ethos, and genre-defining musicianship which has broken down the boundaries of hardcore and transcended the genre onto a global stage.

Breaking into the mainstream with 2005’s career-defining, Wake The Dead, COMEBACK KID broke boundaries and both literally and musically stormed across new terrains, projecting the once underground genre on a globally touring scale alongside the likes of then Victory Records label mates, EARTHCRISIS, TERROR, and REFUSED.

Standing strong in the face of adversity and change, it would be 2007’s Broadcasting that would elucidate both COMEBACK KID’s and the new sonic soundscape of 21st-century punk music with vocalist Scott Wade stepping down and powerhouse, Andrew Neufeld taking over on vocal duties.

“We’re a hardcore band, but we don’t feel like we belong to any particular sect of that,” states Neufeld alongside band members, Jeremy Hiebert (guitar, FIGURE FOUR), Stu Ross (guitar, MISERYSIGNALS), Chase Brenneman (bass, LIVING WITH LIONS), and Loren Legare (drums, LIVING WITH LIONS). “We don’t want to be limited in any sense and prefer to work on our own terms.”

Now one of the most volatile leaders within the global heavy music community, and carrying the torch of igniting endless genres through playing with both sheer speed and force. Arguably 2017’s Outsider would pioneer a new path in which COMEBACK KID would forge for some of today’s new heavyweights to follow, cementing the band’s status as one of the most revolutionary forefathers to carry the genre into the future.

Now with their seventh record on the horizon, the band is defining what it means to be both an integral, yet impressive unit within both the foundation and edges of punk.
