“Some the most uniquely chaotic post-hardcore you'll hear all year.” - BrooklynVegan

“A true masterpiece of modern music and storytelling.” - New Transcendence

“A totally bonkers concept record about a fictional high-schooler named Jamie that sounds like everything
from the Blood Brothers to Coheed and Cambria to Periphery.”
- Revolver

Today, Philadelphia, PA band Kaonashi released their highly anticipated debut full-length, Dear Lemon House, You Ruined Me: Senior Year, on Equal Vision Records/Unbeaten Records. The concept album follows the character Jamie, who was first introduced on the band’s Why Did You Do It? EP, through Lemon House High and the different people they interact with. From their first day of school, a romantic relationship with Casey, and the turmoil that comes with being an American teenager, the eleven tracks on the album tell a unique, emotionally turbulent story in the world Kaonashi has created.

The heavy storyline on the album is accompanied by an expansive sound, building off of the band’s self-coined genre of “emo mathcore.” While math rock-driven moments and cathartic lyrics are still prominent, the band adds in elements of post-hardcore, progressive rock, and even an acoustic ballad, making for a diverse listen. Songs like “Market Street (Chardonnay, Diamonds, & Me)” and “Run Away Jay” are a force to be reckoned with, weaving intricate guitars and hard-hitting drums, while “Fuck Temple University” and “The Underdog I: Blue Pop” balance the franticness of Kaonashi with more melodic moments.

The writing process was a collaborative experience as the group locked themselves away in a cabin in Maine for two weeks, later returning back to the state to record with producer Evan Sammons. Among the band’s groove-heavy chaos found throughout Dear Lemon House, You Ruined Me: Senior Year, there is a clear, resounding message that Kaonashi hopes their audience will take to heart: It’s all about listening. You can stream the album here now and purchase it here.

To celebrate the release of the album, Kaonashi will head out on tour across North America this fall supporting Hail The Sun, alongside Kurt Travis and Body Thief. A full list of tour dates and ticket info can be found here: https://iconicticketing.com/

Kaonashi is Peter Rono (vocals), Ryan Paolilli (drums), August Axcelson (bass/vocals), Alex Hallquist (guitar/vocals), and Roger Alvarez (guitar).

Midwest hardcore band, Purgatory, debuted the second single “Loyalty Denied” today, taken from their upcoming sophomore album Lawless To Grave that is due out April 9th via Unbeaten Records. The new track, about personal betrayal, captures the band's expert ability at creating something that sounds like it's from a classic era of metal and hardcore all while putting their own spin on it. Mixing hard as nails riffing with gruff melodic tendencies, Purgatory is on track to top their widely lauded debut, Cold Side of Reality, with a steady release of new singles including the album opener “Stack ‘Em Up” and “No One Gets Out Alive”. Their latest, “Loyalty Denied” is available to stream here and Lawless To Grave is available for pre-order here.

Speaking on the track, vocalist Matt Anderson says:
"You have people who you think love you but they just use your personal struggles for their amusement and gain as well as belittling everyone else around them when at the end of the day they’re the weakest people on the planet."

Formed in the cold and desolate midwest in 2011, Purgatory, slings unflinching metallic hardcore with an emphasis on the metal sown into their sound, or as they’ve been dubbed, “Midwest Street Metal”. Pulling from influences foundational to their gritty world of hardcore such as Biohazard, Cold As Life, Stigmata, and Merauder, the band is just as influenced by their love of metal such as Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, and Deicide. Regardless of what end of the heavy spectrum they fall, the band’s overflowing supply of raw and untethered anger comes through in full-force in Purgatory’s latest effort.

In the spring of 2021, Purgatory returns with their sophomore full-length and most confrontational release yet titled Lawless To Grave. Due out April 9th, via Unbeaten Records, the band spent the better part of a year fleshing out new ideas in a collaborative manner that hadn’t been done with previous lineups, and it pays off. Across the eleven tracks, Purgatory, composed of Matt Anderson (vocals), Josh Mata (guitar), Brian Pilla (guitar), Tito Richmond (bass), and Collin St. Mary (drums), flex their best songwriting to date and most interesting moments of heaviness and honesty.

Recorded in only four days at Landmine Studios with Len Carmichael, Purgatory took the collective memories of their members, and the universal struggles the population faces into account while writing Lawless To Grave, offering the listener an unfiltered look into the darkness and futility of life in middle-American. Personal betrayal, encounters with the justice system, a country run by racist, corrupt politicians, and experiences with abusive, religious, and addicted family members all lead Anderson and the band to the conclusions found on Lawless To Grave. While all these factors and vengeful reactions to them can shape a calloused life, the only factor one can control is who you choose to be at your core, guided by the set of personal rules you follow. Purgatory takes a deep dive into the constant war of everyday life, the compounding stressors that bring people to a knife’s edge, and capture the anxiety and grit of simply getting by in their crushing swing at the world, Lawless To Grave.

Over the past several years Purgatory has become a rising force in both the hardcore and metal scenes, leading the charge out of the grim Midwest with their debut LP, Cold Side of Reality. As a potent live force, the band has shared stages with such notables as Power Trip, Harm’s Way, Twitching Tongues, Ringworm, Terror, Merauder, and more. In 2021, Purgatory unleash their urgent and cathartic full-length Lawless To Grave into a world of chaos.

Midwest hardcore band, Purgatory, announced that their sophomore full-length Lawless To Grave is due out April 9th via Unbeaten Records. To celebrate the announcement the group, dubbed Midwest Street Metal, shared their new single “No One Gets Out Alive” today. The highly anticipated follow up to their widely lauded debut Cold Side of Reality finds the band at their most adversarial, taking no prisoners while lashing out at systems of oppression and personal relationships mired by distrust, abuse, and religion. Following the release of the album opener, “Stack ‘Em Up”, late last year, “No One Gets Out Alive” shows off the band’s ability to balance groove, crushing tones, and melody within their gritty sound.

The single is available to stream here and Lawless To Grave is available for pre-order here.

Today, the Midwest Street Metal crew, Purgatory, debuted their new stand-alone single, the first taste of new music in a year from the rugged group, called “Stack ‘Em Up” via a premiere with Metal Injection. The band has also announced their sophomore full-length, the follow up to their widely lauded debut Cold Side of Reality, will be released in the spring of 2021 via Unbeaten Records.

“Stack ‘Em Up” is a direct call-out of the institutions that have been brought under increased scrutiny this year, or as the band puts it, "This is a very anti-police, anti-politician, anti-justice system song dealing with the corrupt, greedy, evil, vile, racist, hate-fueled things ingrained in the whole system that runs our world”. After kicking off with a sample from the 1986 film Cobra, Purgatory jumps into a chaos inducing intro that begs to be performed live. The combination of Matt Anderson’s raucous vocal delivery over Josh Mata and Brian Pilla’s thrashing riffs and classic-sounding production style quickly turn the track into one of the most explosive pieces of their catalog. Stream the track here.

Pulling from influences foundational to their world of hardcore such as Biohazard, Cold As Life, and Madball, the band is just as influenced by their love of metal such as Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, and Deicide. Regardless of what end of the heavy spectrum they fall, the band’s overflowing supply of raw and untethered anger comes through in full-force in Purgatory’s latest release. It’s actually difficult to believe that Your Receding Warmth is only their debut album. With it, they’ve proven themselves more than worthy of the excitement surrounding them. Even more exciting is the prospect of what Boundaries might achieve if they can build on the quality of this record going forward. If they do, they may well find themselves held up among some of the best names ever to be considered metalcore. (9/10) - Distorted Sound

Not only a sleeper candidate for 2020’s album of the year, but for one of the finest contemporary offerings the genre has had in recent history, Your Receding Warmth is gritty, raw and visceral while still feeling fluid, smooth and—somehow—polished; an astounding, well-rounded and riveting display of sonically perfect metalcore. (10/10) - New Transcendence

Delivering a sound that equally heavy and dynamic, Boundaries have asserted their ability to meld genres and showcase their influences in a way that is uniquely their own. - Knotfest

Your Receding Warmth is a record bristling with vitality, powerful and hard-hitting in its riffs and structures without ever sounding rote and typical. - The Pit

Boundaries have intensified everything about their music for their LP - HEAVY Magazine

As mystical as it is malevolent, it’s a towering show of strength from an already killer band just starting to realize their powers. - No Echo

The record finds the band taking more chances than ever while building upon their inherent ferocity, stories of bleak existence, and the knack for keeping an audience on their toes that has drawn so many people to the band. DEBUT ALBUM YOUR RECEDING WARMTH
OUT NOV 13th VIA UNBEATEN RECORDS

Today, the Connecticut metal group, Boundaries, shared their latest single “I’d Rather Not Say” and the accompanying music video via a premiere with Knotfest. Taken from their debut album, Your Receding Warmth, due out November 13th via Unbeaten Records, the track features some of the most ferocious and jaw-dropping moments on the record. The band builds colossal guitar riffs on top of one another throughout the three-minute run time, complete with explosive drumming and one of Matt McDougal’s most frenzied and aggressive vocal performances yet. Lyrically, the song confronts the fear that love can only be felt once and life is spent chasing the feeling after experiencing it wholly for the first time. Following the widely praised singles “Carve” and “Behind The Bend”, this latest drop marks the final teaser ahead of their highly anticipated album release. Recorded with producer Randy Leboeuf at Graphic Nature Audio, Your Receding Warmth is available to pre-order here ahead of the release next month.

More about Boundaries:
Boundaries have been turning heads since their 2015 formation in central Connecticut. Anchored by a terrifying live set and EPs that have reached the status of ‘underground classic’, the quintet has bubbled just below the surface for the past three years as they laid waste with their concoction of searing riffs, crushing breakdowns, and intimate lyrics delivered with vessel-bursting rage.

While on the rise, Boundaries has toured relentlessly, sharing stages with the likes of The Acacia Strain, Currents, Knocked Loose, and Spite, and truly established their identity with the release of their 2019 EP My Body In Bloom through Unbeaten Records. The tightly knit crew - Matthew McDougal (singer) Zadak Brooks (bass) Cory Emond (guitar) Junior Scarpa (guitar) Tim “cheese” Sullivan (drums) - pull influences from the bands who first inspired their love of heavy music such as Slipknot, Linkin Park, Static X. While those seminal groups might not be heard in the band’s output, the sonic weight of their latest effort is a fitting tribute to these early influences on the band.

This fall, Boundaries will again partner with Unbeaten Records on their debut full-length, Your Receding Warmth. The record finds the band taking more chances than ever while building upon their inherent ferocity, stories of bleak existence, and the knack for keeping an audience on their toes that has drawn so many people to the band.

DEBUT FULL-LENGTH YOUR RECEDING WARMTH
OUT NOV 13th VIA UNBEATEN RECORDS

Today, the Connecticut metal group, Boundaries, shared the newest single “Behind The Bend” and the accompanying video from their debut album, Your Receding Warmth, due out November 13th via Unbeaten Records. In a show of appreciation to their fans, the band secretly released the track a day early to those who ordered the vinyl repress of the band’s first official release, Hartford County Misery, earlier this summer. While Boundaries may have come a long way since that 2017 EP, the deep connection to their fans has never wavered, and “Behind The Bend” is sure to stoke the flames of anticipation for their debut album even further. The track follows one's last step backward into the helplessness of rock bottom before progression in life is possible, mixing some of their quietest yet most haunting moments with cruel mid-paced riffs that culminate in crushing results. Recorded with producer Randy Leboeuf at Graphic Nature Audio, Your Receding Warmth feels like a long-awaited defining moment for Boundaries and Unbeaten Records and their spreading of ruthless metalcore over the past few years.
