OUT THIS WEEK: SHRINARI 'Hold On To The Hope, Though' (indie pop)

"Omamori’s crystalline vocals and sense of innocence take us on a reflective and purifying flight... Angulo’s instrumentation provides the perfect peaceful crucible in which to hold it, confidently and reassuringly... could be dubbed earth-pop" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Soft-spoken pop meets a purifying Irish spring... Weaving musical tapestries with harp, guitar and vocals... a beautiful marriage of sound with song, drawing you in with frequencies and tones that seemingly connect with our organs and cells" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"'A clear and strong earthy and believable delivery with a minimalistic song framework. The sparse drum beat, impactful synth-line and involvement of a choir accent this notably soulful and well-orchestrated track... reminiscent of Jewel and Shawn Colvin. Maggie Reilly's voice on Mike Oldfield's 'Moonlight Shadow' also comes to mind" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

British-Spanish indie folk duo Shrinari present their new long-player 'Hold On To The Hope, Though', a collection of deep, inspirational tracks recorded over the past few years, bringing the listener with them on a surrealistic journey on a path of discovery. You could call this music Genre Fluid, Sacred Funk or Spirit Soul. You could call it High Frequency Music or World Folk Pop. This beautifully-crafted collection is inspiration and full of love, light and positivity.

These eight tracks intertwine the personal and the collective, giving voice to the challenges we are facing in these changing times. Always delivered with a Shrinari sense of optimism and hope filled wonder, their music reflects the point of no return that we are living through historically, together with the timeless themes of human existence and evolution.

"This moment in time feels like a crucial point. We’re in the middle of a bridge we’re crossing between what we have been and what we will become. This album is a bridge as well between many aspects: the personal and the collective, the ancestral and the contemporary, the magical and the mundane, logic and intuition, fear and trust, etc.," says Rafael Marchante Angulo.

Based in London, Shrinari is a leading duo on the British spiritual music scene, who tour internationally. Formed by Lucidia Omamori and Rafael Marchante Angulo, they incorporate harp, guitar and vocals into their music, which has a strong spiritual component and carries a message of hope, unity and connection.

This follows the single 'Standing Rock', which features London-based chamber-pop artist Heren Wolf, notable Spanish drummer Edu Olmedo and the sublime horn section from Brixton reggae, dub and afrobeat band The Soothsayers. Lucidia worked with Basma Jabbar, putting Lucidia's poem to melody and music, which was then developed and produced by Rafael Marchante Angulo (and performed at the Extinction Rebellion protests in London and BBC Airwaves Festival).

The duo had announced this album with lead track 'The Gift' with an earth-loving video by Kai Ohio, based on a concept by Lucidia Omamori, and the cinematic ethno-folk-pop ballad 'Desert Path', reflecting a magical encounter with the supernatural world and a tale of love with all its twists and turns.

Shrinari make music that brings hope, fuels a positive outlook on life, and promotes ecological and spiritual awareness. With their new musical output, Shrinari continue their transcendent adventure in consciousness and celebration of love and life through the synergy of sound and song.

"These lyrics depict personal and profound moments of exploration and discovery in my inner and outer journey, articulating my process of understanding my inner conflicts, integrating the effect of witnessing and contributing to the destruction of this planet we have been gifted. This is a reminder to ourselves and others to hold on to the hope, to perceive and to experience beauty where it still dwells, and to take action to shift the balance in a positive direction for the future generations. A reminder to honour all the teachings we have received along the way on our diverse path of spiritual searching, philosophical understanding and to show up with deep conviction to love this planet and preserve the beauty for all life as a result of clarity I have received in moments of realisation," says Lucidia Omamori.

As of November 24, the 'Hold Onto The Hope, Though' album will be available digitally everywhere, including Spotify, Apple Music and directly from the artist via Bandcamp. A percentage of profits from all their music goes to support projects aimed at protecting the earth and indigenous peoples.

OK MAYDAY Drops World Inspiring New Single "COLORFUL"

The World Needs a COLORFUL Change

"COLORFUL" buy/stream link:

https://music.empi.re/colorful

With the world still settling after a wild 2020, the refreshing timing of Virginia born band- Ok Mayday's new single "COLORFUL"has impeccable timing.

The collaborative effort between Ok MaydayJ Warner, Clare Reynolds, and Harmony "H-Money" Samuels was written coming out of a very difficult season in the band's career and they felt like they had to speak/sing something into the universe to fully embrace it. Collectively they believe you have to manifest it. So it's their proclamation that change is coming and the best is yet to come!

"It was such an organic process that was actually wrapped up in a two day session with the melodies and lyrics and original production. The post production lasted a few months when real drums were laid down and final vocals were recorded" says Harmony.

"The video was a project we did with + Micah Lindsrom + Tyler Johnson. We came up with the initial concept when the full weight of the record hit us in the heart. The song was much bigger than the band and the video needed to reflect that. Having family members and friends involved with the entire artistic expression truly was a dream come true," says Kelly Bollmann - Guitar.

Virginia based quartet - brothers, David and Kelly BollmannStephen Lee and Matthew Osborn - strike an elusive balance between arena pop, synth-sparked indie, and shoegazing guitar rock.

Transformed by this unique song craft the band became sought-after writers behind the scenes with credits including J. Cole’s "Sparks Will Fly [feat. Jhene Aiko]" and Haley Reinhart’s "Some Way Some How”. These projects caught the attention of power-house executive producer Harmony Samuels [Maroon 5, Fifth Harmony, Chris Brown], who subsequently signed them to a production deal.

After embarking on a 30 city national tour the world shutdown and forced Ok Maydayto create their most ambitious music video,“Blossoms”. They invited dozens of friends from around the entire world to film how they were doing life. Coupling these videos with their own quarantined-bedroom performances the band created a music video with over 1.3 million plays.

Now riding this wave of success, their long awaited EP Just A Phantom is releasing this fall. This six song, extended play captures that elusive, authentic something that hides between analog's imperfection and the beautiful sheen of pop production. Sprinkled throughout are anthemic jams like “Colorful”“Good”, and “Stepping Down”, that are sure to be concert favorites. Contrasted by “Human (To Be Scared)”, a song cinematic in melody and thought, while the title track, “Just A Phantom” stirs the pain of unrequited love. David Bollmann's dreamlike, effortless, almost euphoric croon is featured in “Blossoms”. A voice wandering deftly through chorus and verse, celebrating a profoundly heavy subject, without getting too heavy about it. It’s unmistakable, these friends (and a couple of brothers) have gotten right to the good part: writing catchy, fully-realized, soulful indie that stands apart.

Irish songstress Cat Dowling offers animalistic single ahead new 'Animals' LP (out November 12 via FIFA Records)

"Cat Dowling’s vocals, melodicism and pop sensibility are brilliant... introspective and heartfelt... passionate and liberating" ~ Big Takeover Magazine (New York)

“”An unforgettable and soothing voice and powerful delivery. She definitely is the gold at the end of the rainbow... It’s easy to see why Dowling is indeed one of the artists “making it” abroad" ~ The Spill Magazine (Toronto)

“It's her incredible vocals that resonate. When mercurial, she is reminiscent of the gutsy Karen O. When the pace slows, the respectful tone evokes Kristin Hersh” ~ Sunday Times

“The strongest collection of her career. She has exceeded expectations with an LP throbbing with anger and ennui” ~ Irish Times, Irish Independent

“An artist with a lot to say and plenty of bewitching ways to say it. Excellent” ~ RTE

“Truly a talent we can now believe in” ~ Mail on Sunday

Dublin indie pop artist Cat Dowling presents her new single ‘Animals’ with a brilliant animated video by Marc Corrigan. This is a song of movement, sensuality, wildness, love and freedom. A song about that beautiful part inside the human make-up that can't ever and should never be tamed.

The new 11-track long-player from this Kilkenny-born artist, also titled ‘Animals’, will be released via Forever In Financial Arrears Records (FIFA Records) on November 12.

Marc Corrigan is an Irish artist, illustrator and animator. Telling stories through animation and music videos for the past decade with fans including Billy Bragg and Coldplay, he has released innovative unorthodox works for such artists as Lil Kim, The Futureheads, I’m from Barcelona, Dr. Octagon, The Academic and Ham Sandwich. This is the fourth time Corrigan has worked with Dowling.

"Animals’ is a wild song. It never stops moving. When I first heard it I could picture the ending straight away – a constant flow of wild animals morphing and twisting into each other. Once I knew that, I just had to build up to it, set up a surreal morphing world. The imagery had to move constantly to keep pace with the music. It had to suggest animal instincts in a beautiful way. It had to be a constant high energy piece that never let up and built to a crescendo. So I just kept drawing,” says Marc Corrigan.

Dowling recently released the single 'Freedom', a lush slice of soulful pop perfection with video by Alba Lahoz, featuring her three free-spirited children doing their thing on the beach. The video for the preceding single, ‘Trouble’, was created by BAFTA award-winning director Fergal Costello, recalling a dark, comedic and violent tale set outside of 1981 Belfast.

"I wrote Animals during a busy period of my life when to find those rare moments to write music meant I had to be a thief elsewhere. But it was these stolen moments that gave me oxygen and a beautiful almost supernatural energy. 'Animals' was written when everyone was sleeping. It started with the driving repetitive rhythm which had to be restrained so as not to wake a soul. It thus became hypnotic. It starts as minor and ends up major. It's about the major and minor of life and of love and the constant pull in everything between major and minor and the light and the dark. It's a song ultimately of passion, wildness, sensuality and love," says Cat Dowling.

Lauded as one of the most wonderful and evocative vocalists in Irish contemporary music, Cat Dowling's beautifully dark pop songs and those husky and achingly intimate vocals will grip you from the outset. The former Babelfish and Alphastatesfrontwoman creates well-crafted songs that inspire.

Produced by Gerry Horan with Dowling as co-producer, and mixed by Ger McDonnell (The Cure, U2, Van Morrison, Martha Wainwright, Shane McGowan, Sinead O'Connor), Dowling's latest output was partially recorded at Crossroads Studio in Kilkenny with support from Ireland's Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media.

In 2013, Dowling debuted with ‘The Believer’ LP, ranked in numerous ‘Best of Year’ music polls, including The Sunday Times. The title track featured in the second series of ‘Banshee’, produced by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under, American Beauty, True Blood) and the ‘Witches of East End’ TV series, featuring Julia Ormond. The song ‘Somebody Else’ was also used in ‘My name is Emily’. Cat has also lent vocals on many collaborative projects, including for ABC’s ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ with Emmy-winning actress Viola Davis.

FIFA Records is a steadily expanding label, who have continuously worked with exciting new Irish talent (Fight Like Apes, One Morning in August, Klubber Lang, Hope is Noise, Dae Kim, Lorraine Nash), as well as releasing material from more established names on the Irish indie scene, such as The Frank & Walters, Emperor of Ice Cream, August Wells, Power of Dreams and Whipping Boy.

The 'Animals' single is out now, available everywhere, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. As of November 12, the full ‘Animals’ album will be released digitally, as well as on CD and limited-edition cassette. Pre-order it at https://catdowling.bandcamp.com/album/animals.

The Mystery Plan has announced their new album 'You Also Have Eyes', set for release in mid-July via boutique label Ten Millimeter Omega Recordings. Produced by Jason Herring, Rob Tavaglione and the legendary John Fryer, this long-player continues a tradition of collaboration with Fryer that includes their 2020 'Zsa Zsa' record and 2017 'Queensland Ballroom' album.

Ahead of this LP, the band presents the single 'Silver Lining' featuring Big Supreme on vocals. Written during the pandemic, this song is an ode to looking at the bright side of things.

"Sitting down to write 'Silver Lining', I knew I wanted to be upbeat and optimistic. Since we were in the middle of a pandemic, I wasn't really in the place to do so lyrically. I've known Big Supreme for decades now, and of always loved his words and his flow. He is the younger brother of Charlotte DJ/producer That Guy Smitty, who I am also in the group Muchacho with," says Jason Herring.

"So I asked him if he would like to write something and record with us, and he said yes. I let him know, kind of, how I was feeling while writing the music. A few weeks later he sent me recordings of what he did with 'Silver Lining'. I loved it. He knew exactly what the song was, Sincere Appreciation and hopefulness. Hopefully we'll get to work together again. He's quite amazing."

Big Supreme (a.k.a. Chris Jones) is a rapper from Charlotte, who has been on the scene since the 1990s. He got his start by winning rap battles on the local Hip-Hop station for months and months, holding the record for the longest run on that station.

The band's sixth full-length album, 'You Also Have Eyes' is a compilation of select tracks from their latest few records, including 'We All Get Down', which was co-written, produced and mixed by Ian Masters (Pale Saints, Spoonfed Hybrid, ESP Summer), as well as three new songs exclusive to this CD and digital releases - 'Silver Lining, 'Weird Things Humans Do', and the Peter Anderson (the Ocean Blue) mix of 'Wonder Why'.

This album also involves contributions by Micah Gaugh (The Veldt / Apollo Heights / Dope Sagittarius), Rob Tavaglione and Snap Nation.

Formed in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2010, The Mystery Plan is comprised of Jason Herring, Amy Herring, Jefferson Chester, Otis Hughes and Patty McLaughlin. To date, they've managed to release 11 EPs and LPs combined.

'Silver Lining' is available digitally across streaming platforms, including Spotify and Bandcamp. The full 'You Also Have Eyes' LP will be released on July 16 on vinyl and CD, as well as digitally, with the CD and digital releases entailing expanded editions. It can be pre-ordered directly from the band.

London indie pop-rock outfit Distant Voices previews 'Lights of The City' single ahead of debut LP

"Loud, swift, positive and loaded with youthful adventure... An uber-rad track with upbeat tempo and high expectations as the author sets off across Europe on a quest for fun and discovery. We love it and so will you" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"Hybrid child of Iggy Pop and Kenny Logins, this is one artist who should definitely be on your radar for 2021. High energy, positive vibes, and a vivacity that makes you want to get on the dance floor and rip it!" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"A styled hook and a vibrant sense of musical self" ~ Jammerzine

Straddling several genres at the same time, Distant Voices has announced the forthcoming album 'Long Road To Home'. Ahead of this, they are previewing the high-velocity rock n' roll lead single 'Lights of The City' complete with a fast-moving video, created by Alit Gonzalez.

Based in London, Distant Voices is the solo project of Valdis Stekelis, who wrote and began writing these tracks in 2019, finally finishing a year later due to the delayed realities of the UK lockdown. The band name itself was chosen during that period to reflect these unusual times, where live music (as we have previously experienced it) is a scarce occurrence and where we consume music with a less personal connection to the people making it.

Like the tracks on the album as a whole, 'Lights of the City' was inspired by Stekelis' travels around Europe, based on events from that extensive journey. This lead track reflects the beginning of this trip with all its excitement and promise, but also a light sense of anxiety about what lies ahead.

This album was recorded at EAS Studios near London in collaboration with producer-engineer Ed Sokolowski, who has worked on albums by Melanie C, Fleur East, Hugel, David Archuleta and Lukas Rieger. Sokolowki mixed and mastered this album, as well as co-producing it with Stekelis. Joe Montague also contributes drums on multiple tracks.

"This is the first body of work completed under the Distant Voices name, which I am very keen for people to hear and hope that they will enjoy it. The album was inspired by events that happened during my journey around Europe in 2019 and, in fact, they appear chronologically in the track listing," says Valdis Stekelis.

"There is a range of different feeling tracks on the album – from lively to melancholy and also psychedelic. They are tied together - both in terms of the subject matter and also due to the underlying elements of a retro feel with electronic flavour. It was a lot of fun to make and is truly inspired by events that really affected me at the time".

As of February 17, 'Lights of The City' will be available everywhere digitally. The 'Long Road to Home' album will be released on March 26 and can already be pre-ordered from the artist via Bandcamp.
