LOWLIVES aren't so much about carefully stoking the embers as pouring on gasoline with merry impetuosity. The band was founded on a shared love of '90s alternative and grunge, and a shared desire to make music for little more than the love of doing so.

They capture that musical spirit and mission statement wholly with their cover of the '90s alt x pop x rock smash "Only Happy When It Rains" by Garbage.

For this cover, the band has cranked up the guitars and sprinkled some additional grit, giving it the Lowlives' treatment, while remaining true to the spirit of the original.

"We've had a list of songs we’ve been wanting to cover for years, and 'Only Happy When It Rains' has always been at the top of it," the band states. "The song is about finding comfort in misery, and that's a theme that runs through a lot of what we write, so covering this song felt less like stepping outside our world and more like reinforcing it."

Roses are red, violets are blue, you can run, you can hide, but Mike’s Dead will find you. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the L.A.-based artist, rapper and producer has released an eerie version of Garbage’s cult classic hit “#1 Crush,” the song made famous from the ‘90s Romeo + Juliet film soundtrack, that takes on the darker side of love.

"I was really moved by Shirley Manson's original performance and Butch Vig’s original production,” says Mike’s Dead about choosing the cover. “The original song is so raw and authentic that I wanted to give it my own little twist and add some aggression to it. I beefed up the guitars and added in a bunch of diabolical synths and really pushed the vocals into more of a raspy, gritty space. The lyrics are super intense and I wanted people to FEEL them more in this version."

Mixing together notes of industrial, metal, electronic and hip-hop, and influences from Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein and Limp Bizkit, “#1 Crush” falls in line with Mike’s Dead’s go-to style that has created a cult-like fanbase since he launched the independent project in 2018.

In that short amount of time, Mike’s Dead has racked up 25 million streams, 1.5 million followers on social media, 5 million views on YouTube and spots on American festivals including Welcome To Rockville, Louder Than Life and Aftershock as well as love from SiriusXM, Apple Music and Spotify. Not to mention earning a degree in audio engineering/production that further elevates his eclectic sound.

This spring, Mike’s Dead will continue dominating audiences on a new headlining tour (dates to be announced soon) that will include a stop at the popular Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival in Columbus, OH.
