NEW ALBUM ABEYANCE OUT FRIDAY, JUNE 16

Embrace the sumptuous darkness with Adelaide's alt. and their glossy new single "
FRIENDINTHEDARK," officially out today.

Watch the video
below.

The song is taken from alt.'s upcoming debut album ABEYANCE, due out on June 16 via Resist Records in Australia and SharpTone Records for the rest of the world. "FRIENDINTHEDARK" opens with swooning sonic ink, swaying melodics and modern production while also sporadically erupting with towering soundscapes.

Showcasing the Adelaide group in a dark-pop-meets-rock hue, "FRIENDINTHEDARK" is also accompanied by a deliciously ominous new music video.

"'FRIENDINTHEDARK' came about when someone I know was auditioning for a role in a teen slasher film during COVID when everything was being filmed in Australia," shares alt. vocalist Daniel Cullen-Richards. "The idea excited me and brought to mind the movies I grew up watching as a kid like Scream, Freddy Vs Jason, and I Know What You Did Last Summer, etc. That inspired me straight away and I put myself in the slasher film and wrote the lyrics in five minutes about a character who is at threat by any of their friends to be the victim in our song."

"FRIENDINTHEDARK" is out now

ABEYANCE finds alt. emerging from a turbulent few years armed with rejuvenated focus and ferocity, set to stupefy the senses, and catapult one of the city of churches' brightest stars further into the spotlight.

Working on ABEYANCE alongside Marcus Bridge (Northlane), Landon Tewers (The Plot In You), Zach Britt (Dream On, Dreamer), and Trenton Woodley (Hands Like Houses), producer Callan Orr also returned after his work on alt.'s 2020 debut EP dysfunctional — and the end result is nothing short of astonishing.

Spending years honing their signature brand of punk, pop, electronic, and alternative rock since first erupting onto the scene in 2019, alt. have previously performed with the likes of Karnivool, Cog, sleepmakeswaves, Belle Haven, Bad/Love and, most recently, as the national support for American rockers Saosin during their Australian tour.

Alt. will hit stages supporting Don Broco for their national headline tour across Australia the next few days, and will also appear at Unify Off The Record 2023 at Hindley St Music Hall in Adelaide on May 26, alongside Teenage Joans, Thornhill, Ocean Grove, and more, before joining Windwaker and the UK's Caskets around Australia this July.

NEW ALBUM ABEYANCE OUT FRIDAY, JUNE 16

Abeyance: A state of temporary disuse or inactivity.

Adelaide's alt. return today with a towering new single, "APEP," featuring Void Of Vision vocalist Jack Bergin. Taken from alt.'s upcoming album ABEYANCE, due out June 16 via Resist Records in Australia and SharpTone Records for the rest of the world, "APEP" charges at chaos and corruption with a futuristic sonic glove.

Watch the video below.

Showcasing yet another side of the explosive new alt. chapter, alongside previous singles "WRAITH," "THE GREAT DEPRESSION," and "A.D.D," "APEP" explodes alongside a razor-sharp emulsion of towering soundscapes, anthemic stomps, and colossal vocal interplay between Bergin and alt.'s Daniel Richards.

Also accompanied by a gritty music video that heightens the track's glowering, powerhouse snarl, "APEP" is a stadium-ready moment from alt. that will keep you coming back for more.

"'APEP' is the Egyptian god of chaos and he is consuming our world," shares Richards. "We see his impacts through the pandemic, our corrupt governments, and social media being used as a weapon to divide people. We need to realize we are not the enemy — we haven't done this to ourselves or each other. We are being used and its time to stand up and fight or this chaos will devour us all."

ALT. ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM ABEYANCE OUT FRIDAY, JUNE 16

BAND SHARES VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE "A.D.D."

Abeyance: A state of temporary disuse or inactivity.

More accurately, the polar opposite to Adelaide rockers alt.'s modus operandi, emerging from a turbulent few years armed with rejuvenated focus and ferocity, as well as their debut full-length album ABEYANCE ready to stupefy the senses and catapult one of the city of churches' brightest stars further into the spotlight.

Due out June 16 via Resist Records in Australia and SharpTone Records for the rest of the world, ABEYANCE will feature the group's recent singles "THE GREAT DEPRESSION" and "WRAITH," as well as a brand new track dropping today to accompany alt.'s album announcement: Enter "A.D.D," a futuristic and, at times, industrial wormhole that flits between crystalline calm and stadium-ready, scathing arrangements.

"We didn't really know what ABEYANCE was going to sound like initially," vocalist Dan Richards reveals of the album's early days. "The first two songs that we had for ABEYANCE were polar opposites from each other; they were 'WRAITH' and 'BETTER OFF LEAVING,' the former being pretty much the first proper track and the latter being the last song on the album. We started off trying to fill in the gaps between those at first, but a few songs after that we really found what we wanted the sound to be — and it all really started with 'A.D.D,' that was the first song we wrote that we were like: 'Yep, this is the sound of ABEYANCE!'"

Wielding songs capable of breaking hearts, shattering speakers, and bewitching ears at every twist and turn, ABEYANCE expertly flexes alt.'s staggering technicality and flourishing grasp on vivid modernity amongst moments of sentimental flair. Initially conceived as a follow up EP to dysfunctional, ABEYANCE is a resounding declaration that alt. are more than ready to take over the world. An album that can trace its roots back to the early days of their debut EP while firmly facing the future, ABEYANCE is alt. assuredly roaring into 2023 with all guns blazing.
