Droptine’s Cody Hibbard began his unlikely path to music as a Naval Academy cadet, before an injury sidelined his service dreams and ultimately led him to pick up a guitar. While his career trajectory changed, his deep-rooted respect for the military remained, inspiring his latest cut, “Bend,” out now.
“‘Bend’ shows the bond between someone who has gone through chaos and the person that gets them through everything,” Hibbard shares. “It’s a song about vulnerability and admitting that sometimes the only thing to do is to ask for help.”
Self-written by Hibbard and produced by Julian King and Jim Catino, the battle worn track is an ode to the spouses of military members, acknowledging their sacrifice and dedication to weathering through life’s roughest storms. A willow tree serving as the song’s metaphorical backdrop, its ability to bend rather than break while being battered by winds encapsulates the emotional and psychological toll returning from deployment often has on families.
This road's been narrow
Took a few wrong turns to get this far, ain’t no one’s hero
But baby you can hide these scars, cause like those willows
I run stronger in the wind, when we’re holdin hand in hand, you got my soul on the mend
So Baby bend
To coincide with the release, Hibbard continues to highlight the stories of real families who have lived through these experiences with his interview series “The Heroes Behind The Song,” available on YouTube beginning Monday, Aug. 21. “The Heroes Behind The Song” features candid conversations between spouses, delving into the hidden challenges military families face while shining a light on the battle that follows them.

“Beer Problem;” Cody Hibbard’s 24 12-Ounce Reasons That To-Do List Can Wait
Adair, Oklahoma native and former blue-collar pipeline worker Cody Hibbard understands the common problems that people face. When that broken down truck or list stacking up becomes too much to handle, sometimes it all simply becomes just a “Beer Problem.” Listen to Hibbard’s latest release via Droptine Recordings Below.
"This song is more than a drinkin' song. This song represents every redneck I ever grew up with or worked with that said, ‘screw it, it'll be there tomorrow to fix,’" shares Hibbard. “It's a rocky-tonk, fun time song that is going to be perfect for summer."
Written by Alex Maxwell, Hibbard, Bryan Frazier, Dawson Edwards and Marc Oriet, “Beer Problem” is a relatable song about having 24 12-ounce reasons on ice that stand in the way of getting through that long list of to-dos that just keeps piling up on hot summer days.
I got 24 12 oz reasons buried in some reddy ice
And an I don’t give a damn feeling
Saying I’ll get to it some other time
When I start drinking I start thinking
That as far as I can see
Yeah it sounds like a beer problem to me

Cody Hibbard Debuts Official Music Video for "Looking Back Now"
Honesty and a hard-working attitude are just side effects of Cody Hibbard’s blue collar raising. The United States Naval Academy-recruit-turned-pipeline-worker incorporates the same grit and plainspoken truth learned from his work ethic into his music, with his Droptine Records debut “Looking Back Now” portraying an honest self-reflection of why a relationship went amiss. Watch the official music video below.
Written by Jordan Walker, Matt McKinney and Jordan Kiser and produced by Grady Saxsman – with the music video directed by Wales Toney (Whale Tale Media) – “Looking Back Now” is a 20/20 hindsight view of the narrator’s past mistakes, as Hibbard realizes the relationship’s ending was a culmination of little acts he overlooked. (“Looking back now I would have done things different / a lot of could’ve should’ve would’ve dones…but I didn’t / Now I’m standing alone in the kitchen…just wishin”).
“In the pipeline industry, you know, we travel so much to go to work, and to try to provide for a living,” Hibbard shared with Country Now. “Whether you call it work or a dream, to just be successful, you know, the music industry is not any different, and that’s how I took this song. The looking back now part was where we tend to go and chase dreams and do stuff like this, and sometimes we tend to forget other relationships. That song hits home for myself and other people that I know.”
