With her honey-smoked whisper and lingering delivery, 22-year-old Mackenzie Carpenter has been taking her time establishing a foundation as a songwriter ahead of her first release on The Valory Music Co., “Can’t Nobody,” which debuted last week as a SiriusXM Highway Find. On the heels of that release, the Athens, Ga. native now signs with G Major Management for representation.
Acoustically grounded and leaning into live musicians, she worked with producer Brandon Hood to dial in her sound. “I always wanted to be a country music singer,” the young woman who co-wrote Lily Rose’s “Villain” confesses with a laugh. “There are videos of me at age six, going, ‘I’m Mackenzie and I want to be a singer.’ And that was always the dream.”
“I first discovered Mackenzie when Nicolle Galyon shared a song they had written together and it stopped me in my tracks,” notes G Major Management founder Virginia Bunetta. “The authenticity in her songwriting and the vision she has for herself as an artist is a breath of fresh air. She is beyond her years in both intelligence and chops. We are so excited to welcome her to the G Major family.”
Wistful, but accepting that some things are too good to be true, the lithe songwriter evokes Deana Carter in her prime. With “Can’t Nobody,” the first glimpse at her full-length debut in the works now, she introduces a fresh-faced take on being young, being wise and being alive. Employing a slow-strummed guitar, a quiet high hat against her tumbling alto, Carpenter paints a picture of the picture-perfect Romeo who’s ultimately more heartbreaker than happily ever after:
Can’t nobody write a song like Dolly
Can’t no whiskey get me tipsy like Jack
Can’t nobody raise hell like Dale, comin’ down that last lap
Can’t nobody knock ’em out like Rocky
And nobody rocks ’em like Daisy Duke
Can’t nobody love June like Johnny
Can’t nobody break a heart like you

About Mackenzie Carpenter
Hailing from Athens, Ga., Mackenzie Carpenter is a singer/songwriter whose soulful Country tone was honed by singing in her local church as a kid. She was inspired by her dad to begin writing songs while her two older brothers taught her how to play guitar. Her musical upbringing led her to attend Belmont University in Nashville where she immediately immersed herself into the local songwriting community. Her first cut as a songwriter, “Villain,” landed at No. 1 on the iTunes Country chart. She recently signed to Big Machine Label Group’s The Valory Music Co. and her debut single “Can’t Nobody” is playing on SiriusXM’s The Highway. Mackenzie is building a fanbase online and on the road having already opened for Parker McCollum, Craig Campbell, Ryan Hurd and Conner Smith. She is currently in the studio recording her debut project and will open for Jake Owen on tour this fall.
