JAMES GUNN TAPS NASHVILLE P***Y FOR ‘PEACEMAKER’ PREMIERE EPISODE ON HBOMAX

When director James Gunn was looking for a truly rocking and raunchy song to include as part of the upcoming ‘Peacemaker’ show on HBOMAX (starring WWE wrestler John Cena as the role of Christopher Smith/Peacemaker), he couldn’t have made a better selection than the Nashville Pussy classic, “Come On Come On.”

It appears that Gunn is a fan of The Pussy, in a Twitter exchange between mutual friend actor Earl W. Brown (‘Deadwood,’ ‘Something About Mary’), Gunn admitted to personally choosing the Grammy-nominated Nashville Pussy and song “Come On Come On” for the ‘Peacemaker’ series, and texted “It has great placement in the first episode.”

The first episode, entitled ‘A Whole New Whirled,’ premieres on Thursday, January 13, 2022, and the song (which was originally included on the band’s 2005 album, ‘Get Some!’) will also be included as part of the show’s official Spotify playlist this week.

“We were sitting at the house on a Friday night and Faith started tossing out songs for me to sing and she happened to be filming it,” Dover elaborates. “It’s now one of our favorite things to do, toss out songs we love from artists we admire and see how we can mash them up with the music I've been creating.”

About Dalton Dover
Twenty-three-year-old Dalton Dover first started singing at church as a kid, winning his fifth-grade school talent show performing Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” In that moment Dover’s love of performing was born. By the age of 16 he had picked up a guitar and started teaching himself to play, yet it was his grandfather who turned him on to country music and artists such as Keith Whitley, Rhett Akins, Joe Diffie and Steve Wariner. Enamored with the honesty and storytelling found in country music, Whitley’s “Don’t Close Your Eyes” was the first song Dover taught himself to play on guitar. Performances at local bars soon followed along with sharing covers of some of his favorite songs on TikTok. It was there he caught the ear of producer Matt McV and A&R Veteran and founder of Droptine Recordings, Jim Catino, who quickly signed Dover.

Married to his high school sweetheart, Faith, the two have lived in the same rural Georgia small town, population 1,200, all their lives, important for the Dovers to give their two young children, Taylon and Alyiah, the same idyllic childhood they had growing up — the life one finds in a small town. London-based synthpop artist Rodney Cromwell has released his new 'Memory Box' EP, a 4-track offering that includes the original version of 'Memory Box', plus the ambient track 'Memory Stops', plus two strikingly different remixes. This is the first music Cromwell has released in 2 1/2 years.

This song about our perceptions of reality and the certainty of our memories lends to the question "How do we believe anything in a world where truth and honesty are of so little worth?"

Düsseldorf / Shanghai krautrock band MOOD TAEG offer a discordant re-interpretation reminiscent of the avant-pop of Stereolab or the European coldwave of Ladytron. The second mix, by Retrosynth Records artist AUW, is slice of dark synthwave, pitched somewhere between Kavinsky and Pye Corner Audio.

Rodney Cromwell is the nom de plume of Adam Cresswell, founding member of 1990s-2000s indie-folktronica band Saloon (who had four entries in John Peel’s Festive 50, recorded three Peel Sessions and had top 10 album of the year in The Sunday Times) and one half of electronic two-piece Arthur & Martha (praised by the likes of NME, The Guardian and Artrocker).

With minimal percussion, Rodney Cromwell's lyrics float over a bed of vintage synthesizers and effected guitar. Shunning a clean '80s synth sound, the song is almost psychedelic in outlook, reminiscent of the minimal synth of acts such as Broadcast, Pram or Silver Apples. The video, an atmospheric montage of heavily effected and distorted shots of rural Britain, was inspired by film auteurs such as Stan Brakhage and Chris Marker.

Writing and recording in his home studio in Catford, South London, Cromwell employs an old-school approach using predominantly vintage hardware. Mixed and co-produced by Richard Bennett at Acme Hall Studios (New York) and mastered by Pete Maher (U2, Goldfrapp, Paul Weller, Pixies, The Alarm), Martin J Langthorne, who also designed the album artwork, contributes guitar.

"It was one of the first songs written for the new album. At the time I was still disorientated from illness. I turned on the TV and there was Boris Johnson’s lackey, Dominic Cummings, spinning some yarn. In my post-fever state he came across like Wormtongue from Tolkein, talking about riverbanks, woods and castles while literally sitting in a perfumed rose garden like in Alice in Wonderland. I wouldn’t say that influenced me directly, but certainly my own state of brain-fog sent my writing off in a more heady and fantastical direction," explains Adam Cromwell.

"I wanted the song to have the feel of a marching clockwork toy, so the beat is really simple and metronomic with the synths doing the talking by enveloping the song."

On February 21, Rodney Cromwell will release the full-length ‘Memory Box' album, a mixture of electronic hauntological excursions, dreampop and European coldwave. Using analogue synths, drum machines with parts played almost entirely live (with minimal computer sequencing) and vocals recorded without autotune, this record conjures up an organic, albeit dream-like, world that is inspired as much by Alice in Wonderland, Franz Kafka and Anna Kavan as it is by its sonic influences such as Kraftwerk, The Cure and Stereolab. The sonic pallet of 'Memory Box' is both reassuringly familiar and completely distinctive.

Rodney Cromwell's debut LP 'Age of Anxiety' (2015) and 'Rodney's English Disco' EP (2018) have garnered Rodney Cromwell features in Electronic Sound Magazine, NME, Huffington Post, Paste, Record Collector, BBC6 Music and national RNE3 in Spain, for whom he also recorded a live session. The debut album featured in scores of Best of Lists including Electronic Sound Magazine and he was named 'Most Promising New Act' by The Electricity Club. He has appeared on compilations alongside Cavern of Anti-Matter, John Foxx, Devo, OMD, Katy Perry and other notable artists.

Rodney will be playing a handful of live dates to support the album's release. His debut festival appearance at Indietracks 2015, described as 'a spiritual experience", led to further festival appearances in the UK and in Spain, in addition to supporting artists such as Pram, Marsheaux, Death & Vanilla, Rowetta and Steve Davis. In 2020, he also performed as part of Damo Suzuki's band.

The 'Memory Box' EP is out now digitally via Happy Robots Records with distribution by Cargo Records. In mid-December, Cromwell also released 'Get Me To Prague' on 7" vinyl, which sold out in just a day. London-based label Happy Robots Records has announced the forthcoming release of the sophomore album 'Music for Underwater Supermarkets' by Brooklyn-based electronic artist Roman Angelos. This ten-track collection paints a sonic dreamscape where the mundane act of grocery shopping meets the future.

A dreamy aquatic meditation that is an ode to joyous childhood memories, this record was recorded live to tape, all together in one room, with most of the tracks being first takes.

Ahead of this, Roman Angelos presents the lead track 'Swimming Through The Aisles', a snaking composition in 7/4 that propels the listener through water like a diver looking for signs of life in the deep. A dark combination of 'Kind of Blue' and 50s exotica, this mysterious tune is reminiscent of modular jazz with some wriggling synths sprinkled on top.

Roman Angelos is the solo project of producer Rich Bennett, developed as a vehicle for Rich to explore his obsession with library recordings of the 60's and 70s, muzak and exotica. Exotic, dreamy, and wistful, this is the sound of a jazz sextet as channeled through synths and drum machines, creating a spacey feel.

2020’s debut for Happy Robots 'Spacetronic Lunchbox' was a burst of sonic nostalgia that boasted 11 songs in 10 minutes. It gained praise from Freq, The Electricity Club, Electronic Sound, Shindig!, as well as radio play from on BBC6 Music from Cerys Matthews and Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone, plus Bob Fisher at BBC Tees.

Beyond the world of library electronica, Rich has been involved in a diverse group of musical projects, including the newly reunited outsider/60s proto-punk group The Shaggs, dream pop outfit Mahogany, and Brazilian funk group Limoncello, in addition to production work with Stereolab's Morgane Lhote (aka Hologram Teen).

'Music for Underwater Supermarkets' continues and extends Roman's obsession with the library and soundtrack music of the past. This time, he fuses that aesthetic with childhood memories of being pushed around in shopping carts and visiting strip malls. Vibraphones chime alongside woodwinds and vintage synthesizers, creating an immersive sound that feels exotic and smooth.

"This record is very near and dear to my heart because it is filled with so many personal childhood memories. A lot of the musical ideas and vibe are drawn from aural memories I had while shopping with my parents when I was younger," says Rich Bennett.

"The underwater idea came to me while I started working on the tunes - so much of the writing seemed to have this hazy yet buoyant quality, and the idea of placing a supermarket underwater seemed to give the music both a bit of whimsy and seriousness. Which I’d say I always try and straddle".

Produced by Rich Bennett at Acme Hall Studios in Brooklyn, this album was recorded by Colin Marston (Jarboe, Sailors With Wax Wings) and mastered by Justin Colletti (Soundpool, Willie Nelson, Wynton Marsalis, Dead Leaf Echo).

As of January 12, 'Swimming Through The Aisles' will be available across online stores and streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music. 'Music for Underwater Supermarkets' will be released on January 28 with distribution by Cargo Records, available digitally and on green vinyl. Limited to 200 copies, it was pressed at Deepgrooves, rated as the "greenest vinyl pressing plant in the world" due to their eco-friendly vinyl pressing policies. Our music-loving supporters have continued to inspire our creativity through these uncertain times for musicians and for the world, and we want to express our gratitude by hosting this event with band members in a live Zoom hang-out, followed by streaming a never-before-seen sumptuous concert film from our electrifying open-air Budapest performance in August 2021.

DANCE WITH THE DEAD is an electronic-based music duo by Justin Pointer and Tony Kim. OAK Signs to Season of Mist

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing Portuguese death doom duo OAK, featuring the guitarist of GAEREA. The band will release their sophomore full-length later this year.

OAK comments on the signing: "Back when we first started, we wanted to trace the path of a true giant. Today, following its marks carved into the ground, we have come further than we ever imagined. We came face to face with a colossus and, looking up, we now know what 'giant' really means. From now on, OAK is a Season of Mist artist and we are set to release our second album this year."

OAK churn out scintillating death/doom metal that's expansive and harrowing. 'Lone' is their debut full length and yet the songwriting is accomplished, as if this is what they were meant to be doing all along. There's nothing forced here - the music oscillates between the pensive, slow parts to the cathartic, faster ones with relative ease, almost intuitively. The texture of the music does full justice to it all, enhancing the feelings of despair, helplessness and fear.

At age 8, Michael Ray’s grandfather taught him his first guitar chords. Listening nonstop to Merle Haggard and George Jones as a kid, he fell in love with intricate stories sung by legends. NOCTURNAL GRAVES were originally formed in Victoria, Australia in 2004. Two well received demos, ‘Profanation of Innocence’ and ‘Deathstorm,’ followed in the same year. Quickly securing a deal, the band officially released the ‘Necromancer’ 7″ vinyl in 2006 before unleashing their cult debut full-length, ‘Satan’s Cross,’ the following year. The iconic album was later re-issued with the stunning cover art by renowned painter Paolo Girardi (INQUISITION, MANILLA ROAD, HIEROPHANT) in 2017.

When the Australians first hit Europe in 2009, they celebrated the event with ‘The Gravespirit Sessions’ split. Former DESTRÖYER 666 and RAZOR OF OCCAM guitarist Shrapnel, as well as drummer L.W., joined in 2012.

NOCTURNAL GRAVES widely extended their international fanbase with the release of sophomore album ‘…From the Bloodline of Cain’ (2014), which resulted in an invitation to the 2016 edition of Maryland Deathfest and more shows in the United States. The band supported the tour with a limited 7″ EP ‘Sharpen the Knives / Lead us to the Endless Fire.’

Upon a line-up change in 2018 in which L.W. departed from the band and J. took his place back behind the drums, the band saw their third album, “Titan,” released through Season of Mist. An Australian/New Zealand tour with WATAIN followed in support of the album’s release.

In 2019, NOCTURNAL GRAVES joined forces alongside DESTRÖYER 666, DEAD CONGREGATION, and INCONCESSUS LUX LUCIS and embarked upon the Sons of Rebellion tour throughout Europe.

At the onset of the world plunging headfirst into the pandemic, the band locked themselves away to write and record their fourth assault, ‘An Outlaw’s Stand.’ Upon reflection, this new offering encompasses the entire history of NOCTURNAL GRAVES, compiling eight tracks of sheer ferocity and raw, untamed black and death metal.

NYC's Dope Sagittarius releases 'Sacred Places' LP on vinyl + video for 'Black Empress' feat. hip hop icon Mike Ladd

NYC-based rock-punk-funk fusion outfit Dope Sagittarius presents their 'Sacred Places' album, released on 12" vinyl via their own imprint Buddhabug Records. This collection presents a rich tapestry of funky grooves, thoughtful synths and rocking vocals, featuring contributions by such achieved artists as Ronny Drayton, Corey Glover, Mike Ladd, Marc Cary, Roy Radics, Mazz Swift and Micah Gaugh.

The record also comes with a copy of the comic book 'Dope Sagittarius In the Bumbaclout Strain', which was written by Luqman Brown with artwork by Tim Smith III.

"Tim has worked on many Marvel titles such as 'Iron Man' and 'Ms Marvel'. He also did a series called 'Black', where the only people in the world who had super powers were black. My comic is the first chapter, introducing you to three tuskegee airmen (Captain M.C. Whisler (that's myself), Sargeant Bambam (that's William Ramsey Jones) and Leftenant Spanish (that's Ernesto D' Amaso). They have been chosen by the great Bam Beyonder to fly a B-29 bomber plane through the multiverse to stop the evil D Incredible from destroying all life with mediocre music," says Luqman Brown.

The band also present the video for 'Black Empress' featuring violinist Mazz Swift (Whitney Houston, Valerie June) and Paris-based hip-hop legend/wordsmith/rap pioneer Mike Ladd ("king of the hip-hop concept" - The Guardian). This rocking hip-hop electo soundclash is a song for this Black Lives Matter age. Directed by Morgan Freeman with support from cinematographer Andrew Coury, this video was produced by Carlyle Smith with Executive Producers Luqman Brown and LaRonda Davis. Filmed at YouTube Studios New York City, it stars Angelana Jones and Anthony Bowman, along with M.C. Whistler on Vox/ Guitar, Ernest G. D'Amaso on Bass, Entrified Mcloud on Keys and Ramsey Jones on Drums.

Dope Sagittarius is the brainchild of Harlem-based Luqman Brown, whose mother is a folk-singer-turned-teacher and father a well-known playwright. The independent spirit of art in his blood got amped up early upon seeing Funkadelic at the Apollo. By high school, he had joined his third band -- punk-funk outfit FunkFace, who first opened for 24-7 Spyz and soon Fishbone, slowly rising to prominence through hundreds of shows and three studio releases.

Earlier, Dope Sagittarius revealed alt pop jazz single 'Define Love'. In their music, Dope Sagittarius present an eclectic mix of avant-garde pop-rock and funk with an occasional dip into reggae and street, their unique sound influenced by Bobby Womack, George Clinton, David Lee Roth, The Bad Brains, Fishbone and Ronny Drayton.

While 'Sacred Places' was slated to release in 2017, Luqman suffered a stroke. Everything screeched to a halt as he learned to speak and walk again, followed by heart surgery in 2019. After continual recovery, he’s back with this album, as if he's never missed a beat.

"Being able to properly put this record out into the world means that I didn’t give up in the face of death. This album was supposed to be released in 2017, but I had a stroke as a result of severe complications with my heart. In 2019, I underwent heart surgery to place an LVAD in my heart to keep it pumping. The result of these health complications left me weak and without the breath to perform," says Luqman Brown.

"At the time, I thought that myself and this album would never make it out into the world—as proud as I am of it. Nevertheless, I slowly came back and now the world will get to hear what it’s like living in NYC everyday—hard times, staying alive, and taking the time to have a good brunch along the way."

As of May 14, the 'Sacred Places' LP is out on vinyl and available on Apple Music and Spotify. It can also be ordered via Bandcamp or from Buddhabug Records.

NYC-based funk art collective Loud Apartment presents their 'New Future' album, the band's third long-player, produced by legendary bassist / producer Bill Laswell at Orange Music in West Orange, New Jersey.

Laswell also brings his legendary bass to Loud Apartment, which was formed by musician and technologist Nevaris A.C. (voice, percussion, keyboards). The band's current lineup also includes turntablist DJ Logic, multi-instrumentalist Peter Apfelbaum (flute/sax), guitarist Will Bernard and drummer Lockatron.

Following up lead tracks 'Technology' and 'Rebellion', which features long-term Tricky and Sly & Robbie collaborator / alternative music-turned-dancehall icon Garrison Hawk, their unique NYC fusion of funk, soul and rock with Latin, reggae, dub and hip hop influences is inspired by growing up on the old upper west side. Influenced by such artists as Parliament-Funkadelic, Miles Davis, Santana, Gil Scott Heron, Mongo Santamaria and Ray Barretto, their sound embodies the intersection of culture that is New York City, loose enough to give room for improvisation and extended grooves.

The album looks to the future with hope but not in a naive way. There’s a lot of trouble in the world right now especially with regards to the environment and human rights. It’s an urgent plea for radical change and a different world. A new future," says Nevaris A.C.

The 'New Future' LP presents the sound of New York fusion, blending sounds that have funk as a core ingredient. Largely influenced by music from the '70s and early '80s, this sound pays respect to the music of New York. For this release, Bill Laswell created three Dub mixes from the tracks, designed as the second side of the vinyl pressing. These mixes create a sonic landscape reflecting on the themes of 'Technology', 'Rebellion' and 'Rhythm and Rhyme'.

This new release follows the band's aptly titled 'System Breakdown' LP, also produced by Bill Laswell. The band debuted in 2012 with their 'Get Up Get Down' LP, mixed by Bill Laswell and featuring Bernie Worrell (P-Funk, Talking Heads), who also appeared with them for several NYC live performances. In 2019, Nevaris approached Bill Laswell about working with him and drummer Lockatron. From the first time playing together in the studio the new project took off.

The 'New Future' LP can be ordered via Bandcamp and, as of January 7, will also be released digitally across platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.

NYC-based alternative rock outfit Black Rose Burning has released 'The Wheel', their second full-length album, following the band's debut album 'The Year of the Scorpion', released in 2020.

Running at about 50 minutes, this collection of 12 galactic offerings was inspired by love lost, love won and outer space. This sophomore album takes the band's sound to a completely new level in terms of songwriting and composition.

With a healthy set of post-punk gothic rock earworms, it should come as no surprise that this album would involve Jason Corbett of ACTORS at his Jacknife Sound Studio in Vancouver.

Black Rose Burning was formed in 2018 by instrumentalist, producer and engineer George Grant, whose soulful vocal delivery, instantly recognizable voice, unique grooves and solid instrumentation are standout features of this music.

Spanning the realms of multiple genres, Grant's influences are also multi-generational while maintaining an overall succinct flow and feel. Roughly 40 years of songwriting across many styles has helped George embellish on clever hooks, drive and the gothic-pop sensibilities of The Cult's early years.

"This release was a labor of love after the success of my first record. I was working through and adjusting to the post covid landscape and took solace in having the time to make another proper record," says George Grant.

"Over the past four years or so, quite a few relationships that I valued were destroyed in an instant - over politics or just basic unacceptable differences. Then came Covid and I lost a few more for reasons beyond their control. There was a lot of anger in my first record. This one is more melancholic than angry. I write about outer space a lot. On both records. I find it inspirational. It’s vastness. It’s the place I’d most like to go. Maybe the place I’d most like to escape to might be a better definition."

'The Wheel' was recorded in George’s own studio, PV Recording Company, which has over the years hosted such artists as Emelio Zeff China (Peter Murphy), Knox Chandler (Siouxsie And The Banshees), Chibi (The Birthday Party Massacre), Nellie McKay, Julia Marcel, Paul Bakija (Reagan Youth), Ego Likeness and Voltaire (with whom Grant also played bass for 10 years).

Grant has also assembled for live performances, including guitarist Frank Morin (World Inferno Friendship Society) and drummer Luis Infantas (Monster Zero).

Dublin postpunk / nugaze / electro artist Revolution Above Disorder presents the single 'Scream Quietly', paying tribute to the groundbreaking band Television Personalities and the songwriting genius of Dan Treacy.

Revolution Above Disorder is the solo moniker of Vancouver-based Dubliner Stephen Nicholas White (The Orange Kyte, House of Dolls, Magic Shoppe). Revolution Above Disorder’s music is a melting pot of post-punk, psychedelic rock and electronic music. This is guitar-based rock augmented by synths, drum machines and heavily treated instrumentation with haunting reverb-soaked vocals.

"The lofi outsider-art indie-pop of Dan Treacy's Television Personalities occupies a place in my heart all of its own. Stylistically all over the map, Treacy's four decades (and counting) of off-kilter demonstrations of punk and psychedelia are held together by the emotional depth of the songwriting and the vocal delivery, which sees Treacy careering unconstrained from acerbic, to playfully whimsical, to heartbroken and vulnerable. Revolution Above Disorder recently debuted with 'Illuminate', a 3-track offering that was produced, mixed and mastered at Jacknife Sound by Jason Corbett of ACTORS, which also featured all other members of ACTORS' (Shannon Hemmett and Kendall Wooding on backing vocals, Adam Fink on drums) and Josiah Webb of Magic Shoppe on guitar. The video, directed and edited by Eliot Galán of Galán Films, stars Analissa Longoria and Mat Durie. Dublin-based artist Delta Omega a.k.a. Conor Paxton (House of Dolls, Buffalo Sunn, The Brothers Movement) also contributed the more dance-oriented 'Illuminate (Delta Omega Remix)'.

As of January 11, 'Scream Quietly' will be available via Apple Music, Spotify and elsewhere digitally. It can already be downloaded via Bandcamp, where the debut single 'Illuminate' is also available.
