THOMAS THUNDER Releases New Single “Paralyzed with Fear” feat. Derek Sherinian, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and Tony Franklin

"Paralyzed with Fear" is an epic hard-rock ballad written by 14 year-old prodigious drummer and songwriter Thomas Thunder. The song is an homage to the power rock ballads of the '80's. It was inspired by the 1922 horror film Nosferatu, and the relationship between the main female character, her fiancé and the medaling vampire. Guest musicians include Ron Bumblefoot Thal (Sons of Apollo; Guns N' Roses), Derek Sherinian (Sons of Apollo; Dream Theater), Tony Franklin (The Firm; Jimmy Page) and Echo Deva Picone on vocals.

“I have had the pleasure of working with Thomas on his debut album. I was extremely impressed with his creativity, and use of advanced harmony for a kid his age. I think the future is bright for young Thomas Thunder!”
-Derek Sherinian

“Ive had the pleasure of playing on the soon to be released album of Thomas Thunder. Thomas is a young up and coming musician and he’s a phenomenal drummer. He’s a very intricate songwriter that writes this amazing, crazy stuff that has been so tough to play. I’m on his album along with my Sons of Apollo bandmate Derek Sherinian, and bass player Tony Franklin. So, please check out this album. I hope you enjoy it!”
-Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal

"I was thrilled to play on Thomas’s album, with such an esteemed group of musicians. Thomas is definitely advanced for his years as both a writer and a player. I look forward to seeing how he will evolve as he creates more and more."
-Tony Franklin

The single is from the album, The Pharaoh's Temple, that released in September 2021.

"I see my life in terms of music”

A powerful quote by the renowned genius Albert Einstein. This holds true for 14 year old Drummer and Progressive Rock songwriter Thomas Thunder. Barely in his teens, this young musician from Southern New England is here to prove that children can not only perform as a musician, but be a successful songwriter as well. With his intricate Progressive Rock songs that include odd time signatures and unique instrumentation he has captured the attention of fans as well as professional musicians.

Thomas began his journey as a musician when he started drum lessons at age five. He started playing in a performance band by age eight at School of Rock, and it was there that Thomas was inspired to start songwriting himself. At age 10 years old, Thomas released his first single, and he was awarded a prize in the Eventide Theater Songwriting competition. Thomas has also been featured on the British Prog Rock blog, participated in radio and Podcast interviews, and landed the cover of American Pride Magazine. He also has achieved three Number One hits on the independent music chart The Fabchart.

His love of Progressive Rock bands like Sons of Apollo, Dream Theater and Tool permeate his songwriting. In fact, Thomas grabbed the attention of the ‘King of Keyboards’ Derek Sherinian (Sons of Apollo member; ex Dream Theater; Alice Cooper, etc) with his songs. Thomas has written several songs that feature one of his musical idols Derek Sherinian on keyboards. Not only has Derek contributed to Thomas’ songs but has produced them as well.

This superstar collaboration has solidified for Thomas to continue on the path as a musician and songwriter. Becoming a professional musician, performing live, and Prog Rock songwriting are his musical goals. Since age 12, his original music is published on all streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple and Amazon. Thomas also is a member of the high IQ society Mensa.

The future looks bright for Thomas Thunder!

CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX is supporting 2020's full-length 'Ellengæst,' which can be streamed, ordered, and downloaded HERE.

“One thing we’ll never do is stick to the rules and stay within the box.”

Such are the words from Crippled Black Phoenix founder, songwriter and guitarist Justin Greaves, who has guided this progressive, thought-provoking, shape-shifting musical collective since their 2004 formation. Their new effort, Ellengæst, follows a recent pattern of the band in releasing a mini-album in between studio LPs. It is the direct result of their ceaseless creativity — when Greaves has songs, Crippled Black Phoenix records them. Ellengæst has the difficult task of following 2018’s profound and moving Great Escape. Ellengæst, though, does not make any attempts in pairing with or succeeding Great Escape. Circumstances largely prevented it anyway.

On the day tracking started for Ellengæst, Crippled Black Phoenix — completed by vocalist and lyricist Belinda Kordic, guitarist Andy Taylor and multi-instrumentalist Helen Stanley —suddenly, unexpectedly found themselves without a male lead vocalist and keyboardist. Whereas events of a similar thread would spell doom for most bands, Greaves took it as an opportunity to tap into his deep network of musician friends. Before he knew it, several prominent guest vocalists were secured, ready and able to lend their considerable talents to Ellengæst: Anathema’s Vincent Cavanagh, Gaahls Wyrd’s Kristian “Gaahl” Espedal, Coliseum/Fotocrime/one-time Crippled Black Phoenix touring bassist Ryan Patterson, up-and-coming U.K. solo artist Suzie Stapleton and Tribulation’s Jonathan Hultén.

“It all came together really easy, to be honest,” says Greaves. “Because we’re working with people that you’ve got a connection where you see things the same way or you wouldn’t get along as friends. When it comes from an artistic standpoint, we’re already on the same page. It all just weirdly worked out. It’s not like I had to go out and think, ‘Okay, who do I know that could sing on this song that sounds like this?’ It was just like, ‘I’ve got a bunch of songs that we’ve always talked about doing something with. Which song would this singer suit?’”

Ellengæst, which in Olde English - with some scandinavian connection - translates as “strong spirit” and another reference as “mischievous demon”,represents Crippled Black Phoenix’s duality. “It comes from the same place, but with different connotations,” says Greaves. “That’s this band in a nutshell. We’ve had to stay strong because of all the BS we’ve encountered, yet we’re still going and subversive. It’s like we’re giving kids candy with razor blades in them.”

Tackling themes of the human condition and the perpetual internal struggles people face, Ellengæst begins with Cavanagh pairing with Kordic on “House of Fools” and “Lost,” the two switching lead vocal responsibilities for each song. Gaahl’s appearance on “In the Night” was born from his long-standing relationship with Greaves, the two men grew close after countless late tour nights in hotel rooms chatting the evening away. Gaahl, whose vocal exploits are often limited to black metal circles, was given “In the Night” because Greaves thought he could do something unique with the track.

“He doesn’t do these sorts of things; he doesn’t collaborate very often, if at all,” he says. “Kristian confessed to me that this is the first time he’s done something like this. When he sent me the files, he then called me up and asked if it was okay. He explained, ‘I did it in a spoken word because the song is stoic and melancholy.’ He hit the nail right on the head. Then you have Belinda doing her angelic vocals over it. You have the light and the dark represented.”

Patterson and Stapleton blend seamlessly on the momentous “Cry of Love,” while Kordic casts yet another heart-rendering vocal spell across “Everything I Say.” Yet another surprise comes in the form of Hultén’s trance-inducing, but soaring performance on “The Invisible Past.” A cover of Bauhaus’s “She’s in Parties” sung by Kordic rounds out the set.

Crippled Black Phoenix are no strangers to adversity, making the events surrounding the creation of Ellengæst yet another roadblock for a band whose very existence has been threatened on more than a few occasions. Their unique setup and stubborn refusal to bow to musical norms may confuse the casual music consumer. However, the core of Crippled Black Phoenix — Greaves, Kordic, Taylor and Stanley — thrives on the unconventional, remaining steadfastly singular and undefinable. Accordingly, Greaves believes this incarnation of Crippled Black Phoenix is the strongest to date. All it took was another dramatic sea-change to prove it.

“This was the best thing that could have happened to us,” he says. “Before, there was this horrible cloud of drama following us. There was always something going on. Once that had gone and the people who were on the outside of the band who were a part of that, once they had gone and the drama had gone, me and Helen found ourselves tracking in the studio in the first session. We just got on with it; we didn’t think twice. In the second session, we just felt liberated. We just knew, ‘This is going to be great.’ We’re all so excited about the possibilities. It feels like we’re rejuvenated.”

Slay Squad Drop Official Music Video for New Track "Seishin"

SLAY SQUAD, one of the most exciting and unique forces currently making waves in the world of heavy music, have dropped brand new track, "Seishin", today with an official accompanying music video shot, directed and edited by the group's own Brahim Gouse and featuring live footage from one of their incendiary live shows.

Equal parts radical art collective and hardcore punk band. SLAY SQUAD is comprised of a tightly knit but ruggedly individualistic brotherhood of visionary provocateurs, rhyme-slingers, beatmakers, video producers, metalcore shredders, bare-knuckle fighters, and street philosophers. Completely DIY to this day, the group came together as teenagers and built a rock-solid foundation around a multitude of shared interests, including hip-hop, metal, photography, and skating.

Today's new track, "Seishin" is a perfect example of the band's unique and stylistically diverse sound that they refer to as "ghetto metal". "Seishin" exhibits the very best of this genre melting pot - savagely heavy beatdowns and ferociously gutteral screams combine seamlessly with slick, modern rap and trap elements creating authentic almost undefinable art that is both fresh and dangerously exhilarating. Stream "Seishin" here and watch the video below.

Speaking on their latest release, SLAY SQUAD share

"Seishin is the Japanese word for Sprit. This song is an expression of empowerment, of trust of self vs external influence, of how we, as melanated people, gotta know what's really inside of us and trust the perfection that exists within. An expression of our Spirit. We are designed perfectly in our own image, why the fuck would we want to be like anyone else?

One's environment sculpts one and can indirectly cause you to carry yourself a certain way if you've been subject to rough situations. We won't fall for these evils and influences we're subjected to. The music video shows us comfortably playing through the fires of the 'evils' we're subjected to. Maintaining our trust of self. Maintaining our Spirit."

ABOUT SLAY SQUAD

Located along historic Route 66, Rialto, California, blessed the world with socially conscious poet David Ray, Boyz n the Hood filmmaker John Singleton, and pioneering female rap group J.J. Fad, who earned a gold plaque on Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records. SLAY SQUAD are spiritual successors to the vibrant, grimy, and culturally rich San Bernardino County, situated 56 miles east of Los Angeles, the area where the Hell’s Angels began after World War II, and cops first began wearing body cameras.

SLAY SQUAD combines the vibrant energy, socially conscious urgency, and confident swagger found in the sound of a Roland TR-808, dubstep, techno, and old-school rap, together with the unrelenting crunch of post-modern deathcore and throwback skate punk. The result is a fresh take on heavy music. It comes from a shared commitment toward making ambitious ideas into tangible realities. Vocalist Keilo Kei shares

“I think the greatest art is a reflection of real life. Life is the best teacher. Mixing philosophies, experiences, musical genres, even strains in marijuana cultivation, we can’t separate it from what came before, but we can’t deny that it’s changed by its coming together. Call it rapcore, trap death, ghetto metal… SLAY SQUAD defies easy categorization, and that fact is by design.

Their self-described “ghetto metal” and Young God worldview built a buzz from the underground upward, with no handouts. Like the beginnings of Odd Future, Wu-Tang Clan, and Dischord Records, SLAY SQUAD holds true to the values of DIY, exercising strict creative control.

Gordo is a talented photographer and tech-savvy. Tim keeps his finger on the pulse of emerging styles in heavy music. Brahim is intimately, meticulously involved in the visual side of SLAY SQUAD, together with his partners in the Gousse Nest visual production team. SLAY SQUAD’s members hustle, organize, and regularly strategize, debating creative decisions with spirited discussion to realize the best collective path forward. They resist complacency, never too comfortable for too long.

Vocalist and SLAY SQUAD's visual mastermind, Brahim Gousse adds

“People connected with us early on because they see that we are true, we’re combining genres, and they want to see what happens. Now we have fans who truly get what we’re about. We’ve been in the lab, throwing darts at the dartboard. Now it’s time to give people the damn art.”

The ferociously prolific group are continuing to work on new tracks with a number of releases planned to drop throughout the next 12 months.

Irish songstress Cat Dowling offers animalistic single ahead new 'Animals' LP (out November 12 via FIFA Records)

"Cat Dowling’s vocals, melodicism and pop sensibility are brilliant... introspective and heartfelt... passionate and liberating" ~ Big Takeover Magazine (New York)

“”An unforgettable and soothing voice and powerful delivery. She definitely is the gold at the end of the rainbow... It’s easy to see why Dowling is indeed one of the artists “making it” abroad" ~ The Spill Magazine (Toronto)

“It's her incredible vocals that resonate. When mercurial, she is reminiscent of the gutsy Karen O. When the pace slows, the respectful tone evokes Kristin Hersh” ~ Sunday Times

“The strongest collection of her career. She has exceeded expectations with an LP throbbing with anger and ennui” ~ Irish Times, Irish Independent

“An artist with a lot to say and plenty of bewitching ways to say it. Excellent” ~ RTE

“Truly a talent we can now believe in” ~ Mail on Sunday

Dublin indie pop artist Cat Dowling presents her new single ‘Animals’ with a brilliant animated video by Marc Corrigan. This is a song of movement, sensuality, wildness, love and freedom. A song about that beautiful part inside the human make-up that can't ever and should never be tamed.

The new 11-track long-player from this Kilkenny-born artist, also titled ‘Animals’, will be released via Forever In Financial Arrears Records (FIFA Records) on November 12.

Marc Corrigan is an Irish artist, illustrator and animator. Telling stories through animation and music videos for the past decade with fans including Billy Bragg and Coldplay, he has released innovative unorthodox works for such artists as Lil Kim, The Futureheads, I’m from Barcelona, Dr. Octagon, The Academic and Ham Sandwich. This is the fourth time Corrigan has worked with Dowling.

"Animals’ is a wild song. It never stops moving. When I first heard it I could picture the ending straight away – a constant flow of wild animals morphing and twisting into each other. Once I knew that, I just had to build up to it, set up a surreal morphing world. The imagery had to move constantly to keep pace with the music. It had to suggest animal instincts in a beautiful way. It had to be a constant high energy piece that never let up and built to a crescendo. So I just kept drawing,” says Marc Corrigan.

Dowling recently released the single 'Freedom', a lush slice of soulful pop perfection with video by Alba Lahoz, featuring her three free-spirited children doing their thing on the beach. The video for the preceding single, ‘Trouble’, was created by BAFTA award-winning director Fergal Costello, recalling a dark, comedic and violent tale set outside of 1981 Belfast.

"I wrote Animals during a busy period of my life when to find those rare moments to write music meant I had to be a thief elsewhere. But it was these stolen moments that gave me oxygen and a beautiful almost supernatural energy. 'Animals' was written when everyone was sleeping. It started with the driving repetitive rhythm which had to be restrained so as not to wake a soul. It thus became hypnotic. It starts as minor and ends up major. It's about the major and minor of life and of love and the constant pull in everything between major and minor and the light and the dark. It's a song ultimately of passion, wildness, sensuality and love," says Cat Dowling.

Lauded as one of the most wonderful and evocative vocalists in Irish contemporary music, Cat Dowling's beautifully dark pop songs and those husky and achingly intimate vocals will grip you from the outset. The former Babelfish and Alphastatesfrontwoman creates well-crafted songs that inspire.

Produced by Gerry Horan with Dowling as co-producer, and mixed by Ger McDonnell (The Cure, U2, Van Morrison, Martha Wainwright, Shane McGowan, Sinead O'Connor), Dowling's latest output was partially recorded at Crossroads Studio in Kilkenny with support from Ireland's Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media.

In 2013, Dowling debuted with ‘The Believer’ LP, ranked in numerous ‘Best of Year’ music polls, including The Sunday Times. The title track featured in the second series of ‘Banshee’, produced by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under, American Beauty, True Blood) and the ‘Witches of East End’ TV series, featuring Julia Ormond. The song ‘Somebody Else’ was also used in ‘My name is Emily’. Cat has also lent vocals on many collaborative projects, including for ABC’s ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ with Emmy-winning actress Viola Davis.

FIFA Records is a steadily expanding label, who have continuously worked with exciting new Irish talent (Fight Like Apes, One Morning in August, Klubber Lang, Hope is Noise, Dae Kim, Lorraine Nash), as well as releasing material from more established names on the Irish indie scene, such as The Frank & Walters, Emperor of Ice Cream, August Wells, Power of Dreams and Whipping Boy.

The 'Animals' single is out now, available everywhere, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. As of November 12, the full ‘Animals’ album will be released digitally, as well as on CD and limited-edition cassette. Pre-order it at https://catdowling.bandcamp.com/album/animals.

REVOLUTION ABOVE DISORDER releases 'Illuminate' maxi-single, produced by ACTORS' Jason Corbett

"Takes the prize for the perfect nugaze single... if White were looking for a sonic something that balanced out the familiar and innovative, something cold yet calming, something futuristic while rooted in retro electro, then he has solidly hit the nail on the head here" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Vancouver’s cityscape may very well have a subliminal (if not plainly evident) impact on the dark cold and awesome prism through which he channels the better elements of such bands as The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spiritualized, Lush and Catherine Wheel" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

“I love working with Stephen. There’s a trust and flow that spawns a real magic in the music. You can hear the adventure in the songs" ~ Jason Corbett (ACTORS, Jacknife Sound)

Postpunk / nugaze / electro artist artist Revolution Above Disorder presents his debut offering 'Illuminate', a 3-track offering that was produced, mixed and mastered at Jacknife Sound by Jason Corbett of ACTORS. A melting pot of post-punk, psychedelic rock and electronic music underpinned by raw, sincere vocals, this is guitar-based rock augmented by synths, drum machines and heavily treated instrumentation with a spine of pure melody.

Revolution Above Disorder is the solo moniker of Dubliner Stephen Nicholas White (The Orange Kyte, House of Dolls, Magic Shoppe), who is currently based in Vancouver. Revolution Above Disorder’s music is electronic-tinged post-punk with raw, honest lyrics driving the songs.

"Illuminate’ is the song that kickstarted Revolution Above Disorder. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I’d just come off a European tour with Magic Shoppe and I found myself having to cancel scheduled plans with The Orange Kyte. In my downtime I began to reevaluate where I was headed musically and I realized I’d become dissatisfied with what I’d been doing. As I searched through old demos from the past, some going back over a decade, I was excited to hear songs with real potential that either I’d abandoned or just plain forgotten about. I grew interested in the idea of this modern day version of myself collaborating with my chaotic and directionless former self. I wanted to finish what I’d started many years prior. 'Illuminate’ was the first one I needed to record," says Stephen Nicholas White.

With ACTORS' Shannon Hemmett and Kendall Wooding on backing vocals, bandmate Adam Fink on drums, and Josiah Webb of Magic Shoppe on guitar, the original version is a powerful and euphoric post-punk / shoegaze single rooted in new wave and electro rock. The accompanying video was directed and edited by Eliot Galán of Galán Films, a key creative in Vancouver's film & tv industry, starring Analissa Longoria and Mat Durie.

This release also features the more dance-oriented 'Illuminate (Delta Omega Remix)', produced by Delta Omega a.k.a. Dublin-based Conor Paxton (House of Dolls, Buffalo Sunn, The Brothers Movement).

“The formidable sonic wizard that is Mr. Conor Paxton AKA Delta Omega is a long-time friend and musical collaborator of mine. After initially bonding over a mutual love of Death in Vegas, My Bloody Valentine and Primal Scream, we formed House of Dolls and duly embarked on many gloriously heady adventures and misadventures across Ireland, the UK and Europe," says Stephen Nicholas White.

"This remix he has done for 'Illuminate' is indicative of just how well he understands the essence of what I’m doing with Revolution Above Disorder. Coming at it with a dreamy, psychedelic sensibility, it calls to mind peak Ecstasy-driven New Order, early seventies Germany, all filtered through an Eno-esque ambient shoegaze lens. I fucking love it. And I think you will too.”

FEUERSCHWANZ Releases New Single & Video “Untot im Drachenboot”

New Album, Memento Mori, out December 31, 2021 via Napalm Records

Pre-Order NOW!

Recently, about a year after the release of their last album, Das Elfte Gebot – which reached #3 in the German album charts – FEUERSCHWANZ announced their new album, Memento Mori, set for release on New Year's Eve 2021. Now, with their first single, "Untot im Drachenboot", the pioneers of the German folk rock scene herald a triumphant overseas voyage into another legendary FEUERSCHWANZ saga!

With echoing screams, "Untot im Drachenboot" calls a mighty army aboard a monstrous Viking ship. Wild guitar riffs and rousing violin solos put wind into the sails, while captain Feuerschwanz keeps hold of his crew with strong vocal power and deep growls. Filmed on a real Viking ship, FEUERSCHWANZ literally set sail in the video for "Untot im Drachenboot" and deliver another glorious anthem! The Franconians once again deliver a very strong music video, which offers a first taste of the upcoming album, Memento Mori.

FEUERSCHWANZ on the new song:

"'Untot im Drachenboot' - Pirates of the Caribbean meets Vikings! Ancient Icelandic sagas tell the story of undead fighters, called Draugr, appearing from nowhere to roam and plunder the land. Now our captain is also cursed to eternal capture and gathers an army of undead warriors around him. Ready to fight for our future caper voyages, we want to board the stages of this world again as soon as possible with the wild hordes of our fans - and provide you with the matching soundtrack! Hoist the sails and join our army!"

Shortly following their live BluRay/DVD Die Letzte Schlacht debuting on the German album charts at #4, FEUERSCHWANZ announced their new studio album, Memento Mori. The new album will be released on December 31, 2021 via Napalm Records and will continue the success story of the medieval rockers from Germany / Franconia! Memento Mori, the follow-up to the successful album Das Elfte Gebot, sings about great adventures, past battles and outstanding heroic deeds in pure FEUERSCHWANZ fashion. FEUERSCHWANZ manage to stay true to their trademarks, and at the same time, venture musically into new realms.

FEUERSCHWANZ on the new album:

“You take nothing with you to your grave, except your coffin... Memento Mori is the direct successor to Die Letzte Schlacht! The world of Hauptmann Feuerschwanz is in flames, overrun by the living dead and scourged by religious zealots... All of this sounds frighteningly real, even in Anno Domini 2021, so it's time to defy the storm once again and celebrate life. Let's live here, let's live now - until death sharpens his knife!”

GREEN CARNATION Announce Remastered, 15th Anniversary Edition of 'The Acoustic Verses'

Norwegian progressive rock icons GREEN CARNATION will be releasing a remastered, 15th anniversary edition of their acoustic album, 'The Acoustic Verses!' This anniversary edition, remastered by Maor Appelbaum, contains three bonus tracks and has brand new cover artwork by Lukasz Jaszak. This is also the first time that 'The Acoustic Verses' is released on vinyl.

In celebration of this release, the band has also released a lyric video for the song "My Greater Cause.

Vocalist Kjetil Nordhus comments: "This is something that both we and our fans have been waiting for a long time! 'The Acoustic Verses' is a stand out album in our catalogue, and we hope people will enjoy the vinyl, with its extra songs, new and beautiful cover art, the upgraded sound and not least, the vinyl!"

'The Acoustic Verses (remastered)' will be out on December 3, via Season of Mist.

Pre-orders are live in the shop HERE.

By early 2006, Norway’s GREEN CARNATION had released four studio albums and an EP in five years — including their breakout masterwork, 2001’s Light of Day, Day of Darkness. Albums of such magnitude generally foretell some type of creative cliff is around the bend, but the Norwegians wisely kept updating their sound with more atmospheric and progressive rock elements on the ensuing A Blessing in Disguise (2003) and The Quiet Offspring (2005). This creative direction ensured Light of Day, Day of Darkness would forever stand alone and that GREEN CARNATION was not a band bound to convention.

This brings us to 2006’s The Acoustic Verses, an album — as the title suggests — of completely acoustic originals. Buoyed by the previous year’s The Burden is Mine…Alone EP and the eponymous song bearing its name, The Acoustic Verses found GREEN CARNATION near the peak of their creative powers during their 2000s iteration. Now 15 years removed from its release, TheAcoustic Verses is getting the vinyl reissue treatment from Season of Mist, including new artwork from Polish graphic artist Lukasz Jaszak, an updated tracklisting and three bonus cuts.

According to vocalist Kjetil Nordhus, The Acoustic Verses was born from the band’s never-ending pursuit of something new. Even with regular pleas from fans to recreate the hallowed sounds of Light of Day, Day of Darkness, GREEN CARNATION was more interested in the “next step.” Come 2006, that next step was stripped-down music played on acoustic instruments.

“I think [founding member/guitarist] Tchort thought we didn’t know where to go next,” says Nordhus. “We had time to discover all the areas within our creative scope except for the acoustic landscapes. Especially Light of Day, Day of Darkness, which is a ‘more is more’ album. It sounds strange, but it was a natural step for us because it was an area we hadn’t gone into before as a band. We had different band members that were more or less acquainted with the acoustic ideas. But for the band as a whole, it was a new challenge. It was fresh for us. For some strange reason, but I can understand, I think many people found a lot of atmospheres from Light of Day, Day of Darkness in TheAcoustic Verses, even though it’s the most different sounding album when you listen to it at first. The Acoustic Verses is like a stripped-down essence of what GREEN CARNATION is or was at that time.”

At seven songs, The Acoustic Verses features songwriting contributions from nearly every member of GREEN CARNATION. Tchort provided “Sweet Leaf” and “Alone,” while Nordhus chipped in with “Maybe?” Bassist Stein Roger Sordal penned not only “The Burden is Mine…Alone” but also the 15-minute epic “9-29-045.” “Child’s Play Part 3” (a continuation of the “Child’s Play” story from The Quiet Offspring) was written by guest cellist Bernt Andrè Moen, and album closer “High Tide Waves” was a joint effort between guitarist Michael S. Krumins (music) and drummer Tommy Jackson (lyrics).

The wealth and disparity of songwriting ideas proved to be a double-edged sword GREEN CARNATION. While it made The Acoustic Verses an album of remarkable depth and progression, it put the band at a creative crossroads. Then, the following year, Tchort dissolved GREEN CARNATION after a difficult North American tour. It also put his plans for the sequel to Light of Day, Day of Darkness, The Rise and Fall of Mankind (which was the intended second part of his The Chronicles of Doom trilogy) on the backburner.

“It was a challenge for us to fit the new, acoustic sound into what we were doing,” says Nordhus. “I can’t remember too many albums that have nearly all band members as songwriters and lyricists, which made it very much a band concept. But, after The Acoustic Verses, we certainly didn’t know what to do. There wasn’t a natural step for us to take at that point. There’s a lot of reasons why we decided to split up — that was one of them.”

GREEN CARNATION reformed in 2014 and proceeded to rejoin the European and American festival circuit for special appearances, including a full airing of Light of Day, Day of Darkness at the 2016 ProgPower USA festival. In 2020, they released the highly anticipated follow-up to The Acoustic Verses, Leaves of Yesteryear, an album that drew immediate praise from fans and critics.

“We knew that people wanted us to come back,” says Nordhus. “That wasn’t something new. But the emotions of it all, during that first concert when we came back, we saw several people crying in the audience, we could see how much it meant to people and we were all a bit surprised. There’s a lot of love for the band out there. We needed to be entirely sure that after so many years that we released an extremely good album. It wouldn’t make sense to do something halfway. We took quite a lot of time, wrote a lot of material and set a high bar for our ideas. We tried to gather all the best things we did previously but adding 15 years of life and musical experience.”

Nordhus hints at some “significantly adventurous” plans for GREEN CARNATION in addition to continuing the promotional push for Leaves of Yesteryear. However, assembling the The Acoustic Verses reissue provided a moment of pause and reflection when GREEN CARNATION was writing, recording and touring at a breakneck pace. A decade-and-a-half after the release of The Acoustic Verses, Nordhus says the band is in a significantly better frame of mind and appreciates what they have in each other.

“Those were some hectic years. It was such a short period of time. You look at what we did and it’s like, ‘Oh, wow!’ We did concert DVDs, singles, full lengths…everything. Because of the experience we all have, it feels much more comfortable to play together. We’re more true to what we want to do. We don’t necessarily have the aim of headlining the Wacken festival. We’re happy with our situation in that we have people all over the world who are interested in what we’re doing, and we mean something to them. Not everyone can say that. We want to do stuff that gives us energy and want to continue playing. Economy and money are not our driving force — it never was in the first place. We’re extremely ambitious when it comes to making music together and our live shows are better than ever. I don’t think we talked about those things 15 years ago.”

DRACONIAN Announces Re-Issues of Remarkable Full-Length Albums Where Lovers Mourn (2003) & Arcane Rain Fell (2005)

Out December 17, 2021 - Pre-Order NOW!

Swedish doom/gothic union DRACONIAN will release the atmospheric re-issues of their guiding full-lengths Where Lovers Mourn (2003) and Arcane Rain Fell (2005) on vinyl on December 17, 2021 via Napalm Records.

The Scandinavians’ 2003 album, Where Lovers Mourn, marked a memorable debut filled with stunning atmosphere of unease and sadness. The eight compositions offer melancholic, plaintive guitar melodies and a dark yet melodic male vocal alternating between aggression and chanting in contrast with the angelic voice of former vocalist Lisa Johansson. Their first offering also doesn't shy away from extended-length tracks. In addition, there is a wealth of variety in terms of peaceful piano parts, subtle string inserts, folk interjections and orchestral passages giving the gothic/doom influenced piece of art a flair all its own.

The second studio-album, Arcane Rain Fell, proudly builds upon the Swedish unit’s first creation. With a musically darker and also heavier opus, DRACONIAN venture into poetic lyrical landscapes. A major part of this new lightness is due to a noticeable reduction of the keyboard bombast and above all the poetically inspired lyrics, presented in a both beautiful and dark vocal duet, which takes the listener into a world of sound equally as sorrowful as it is beautiful. The re-issue promises an eerily beautiful atmosphere, full of dark romance as if made for cold winter evenings.

Anders Jacobsson and Johan Ericsson add:

“Our debut album Where Lovers Mourn shows a broad variety of influences, from doom to folk music, all with the gothic vibe that followed us from our first demo. It mostly consisted of reworked material from our demo, Dark Oceans We Cry, released the year prior. You can hear still hear traces of this era in our most recent works.

With Arcane Rain Fell we cemented our sound and took a big step with our song writing. It’s very dear to us and our fans, still to this day. Lyrically it was a continuation of the Luciferian influence starting with our 1999 demo A Closed Eyes of Paradise.”

ARCHSPIRE Album Release Show:

Archspire’s JUNO-Nominated (Canadian Grammy) 2017 Relentless Mutationwas a cavalcade of speed and extremity — blasting, accelerating and, in partial reference to its title, “mutating” as each song unfolded, all the while rapid-fire, shotgun vocals blurred the lines between a man’s throat and additional instrument. It was, unquestionably, an innovation of sound and technique — Archspire had broken the speed barrier while creating songs memorable as they were unabashedly extreme for extreme metal. Thus, the pressure was already there to top Relentless Mutation when the band started to compile new songs in 2018. The global pandemic heightened the situation (read: no touring, expanded free time) and caused Archspire to turn inward and apply additional rigor to their songwriting process, albeit painstakingly so. But by the end of the fraught calendar year that was 2020, the band emerged with their fourth studio album, Bleed the Future

According to the members of Archspire — vocalist Oli Aleron, guitarists Dean Lamb and Tobi Morelli, bassist Jared Smith and drummer Spencer Prewett — they originally went into the making of Bleed the Future under the idea they would finish the album in between the various tours scheduled for 2020. Of course, none of that happened, prompting the band to do more pre-production than at any time in their career. Archspire then subjected the album’s eight songs to near-constant critiquing that ensured they came away with a product, that in their estimation, is their best to date.

“The benefit we had was that Relentless came out in 2017,” says Lamb. “Since then, we toured more than we ever did before. We had the viewpoint of ‘What do crowds like? What parts should we write more of? What parts do people give us good feedback on?’ We wanted to expand and write those parts more consistently — there are more hooks and when we do have hooks, we wanted to repeat those parts so people will know that this is the catchy part of the song.”

“The most important thing was that we had clever songwriting,” adds Prewett. “We wanted the album to be more accessible to more people but still keep it extreme, fast and technical. So, we changed our process this time. We recorded rehearsal every day and listened to what we did afterward. We’d then come back to the jam spot and change riffs and ideas based on what everyone was thinking about during the week. It resulted in an album that everyone was happier with.”

Archspire also had the stated goal for Bleed the Future that they wanted to get faster. While such a feat may defy reason given their previous output, the band wrote their fastest song to date — the album-closing “A.U.M.,” a cut that opens up with an audio recording of a German friend of Prewett’s who, according to the drummer, enjoys ragging on Archspire. Comedic clips aside, “A.U.M.,” caps off an album that pushes the boundaries of speed but also is textured — Smith’s ethereal basslines often serve as mid-song interludes, while Lamb and Morelli weave melodic, spiraling guitar lines that annihilate the fretboard during “Abandon the Linear,” “Bleed the Future” and “Acrid Canon.” Accordingly, the members of Archspire were keenly aware of the expectations placed upon them after the success of Relentless Mutation. The online comments regarding whether they could top

Relentless Mutation was also occasionally on their minds when composing Bleed the Future and prompted the band to ensure that all five members were happy with everything — down to the last riff, vocal line, bass run and drum pattern. “Audience expectation is really important,” says Lamb. “If we leave the jam spot and everyone is stoked on a song, it’s pretty likely that the audience will be stoked. We have the expectation of the audience but we also have to be pumped on the music. I feel the proudest of the music. We spent more time on the songs and got better at writing. I feel it’s better music.”

“It’s an extremely tedious writing process,” adds Smith. “If anyone isn’t feeling a riff, we scrap it and have to find something we’re all happy with. It can be super-frustrating in the moment, but in the end, we have something better. We want everything we write to be a step up and I think we achieved that with Bleed the Future.”

The album is accompanied by a concept developed by Aleron that begs the question: What happens when humans start giving birth to non-humans? Born from a weird dream the vocalist had, Bleed the Future’s concept does not have finality or a conclusion. It does, however, posit a few ethical dilemmas to ties into Archspire’s long-running science fiction themes.

“I thought about what if those things they were giving birth to could actually benefit them in the future so they wouldn’t want to reject them,” says Aleron. “What would happen to the humans that weren’t born? Would they go to a different dimension? I played with that whole idea because I hadn’t seen a horror movie where that was the theme. It worked for all the songs. The only social commentary is that people don’t know what they’re giving birth to — if you put someone on this planet, you don’t know whether they’re going to be good or evil.”

Bleed the Future was recorded in October and November 2020 at Flatline Audio in Colorado with producer/engineer Dave Otero. This was the second consecutive album the band worked with Otero. According to Morelli, the recording process was seamless. “Dave was already familiar with what we each can do individually,” he says. “This time, he was more prepared to tackle those elements. How he tracks was more focused on what we were capable of and I think it really shows here.”

As live show activity for 2021 hangs in the balance (Archspire currently has dates lined up for November), the pandemic has prompted many bands to re-think their new album release dates as well as how to stay visible in a world currently without touring. But, with a fanbase that has embraced the band’s online presence that includes playthroughs, tutorials and now, cooking shows (!), Archspire heads into the Bleed the Future album cycle the benefactors of their commitment to touring and, most of all, position as one of death metal’s most forward-thinking bands.

“We have a lot of awesome fans, so I think they’ll be there to support us and pick up the album because they like the music,” says Lamb. “We’re a self-managed band; we’ve been working with the same label for ten years and I think the outcome will be good. Would it had been better if we had been on a full North American tour starting a week before the album release? Sure, but I think people will come out and support us through other means. As soon as we’re ready to go back on tour and everybody is safe to do so, we’ll be out there.”

THE UNITY Release New Video for "Close To Crazy" (Live) with German Comedian Sascha Grammel

Fans of the German puppet comedy superstar Sascha Grammel have known for a while now: The likable ventriloquist from Spandau and proud creator of puppets and audience favorites such as eagle pheasant Frederic Freiherr von Furchensumpf, turtle lady Josie or ecotrophologist Professor Dr. Peter Hacke, is always good for a surprise. Grammel swears by the music of German Metal band The Unity to motivate him during fitness workouts. Apparently, his favorite track to sweat, cycle, run and lift weights along is "Close To Crazy". But that`s not all! Grammel and his endearingly eccentric puppet flatmate now appear in The Unity’s latest video – and you can see they’re enjoying every second of it.

Referring to the unusual song title, Grammel`s alter ego Frederic quizzes his boss in the video intro: “Did you write this song?” And counters Grammel`s honest denial with, “But it would’ve been very fitting! You`re close to crazy too!”

"Close To Crazy (live)" is the forerunner to The Unity’s new live album‚ The Devil You Know – Live, which is due for release by Steamhammer/SPV on November 12th, 2021, and includes recordings of concert highlights from their tours of Germany and several European countries between 2017 and 2020. The accompanying video shows The Unityas comrades in arms with the two Gamma Ray members Henjo Richter (guitar) and Michael Ehré (drums, Primal Fear), alongside bandmates Gianbattista Manenti (vocals), Stef E (guitar), Jogi Sweers (bass) and Sascha Onnen (keyboards) at the Masters Of Rock Festival in the Czech Republic, where the band, as always, managed to thrill fans and critics alike.

The band will also be back on stage for the big release party of The Devil You Know - Live on December 25th & 26th at the Jahnhalle in Nordenham, GER. Additional shows, festival appearances, and tours throughout Europe are also scheduled for 2022. Despite being arguably Brazil’s biggest ever music export, when extreme metal legends Sepultura lost their original frontman and founder (alongside brother and drummer Iggor Cavalera) Max Cavalera in 1996 after their hugely influential ‘Roots’ album, many thought the band would not recover from his departure. However, in Cleveland, Ohio punk and hardcore scene veteran Derrick Green, Sepultura found a formidable, towering force that would lead the band with power and conviction through this new era of their career.

‘Sepulnation – The Studio Albums 1998 – 2009’, released through BMG on October 22nd, celebrates the bands seconds phase, and this five-album boxset (across eight slabs of vinyl or five CDs) contains the albums; Against, Nation, Roorback, Dante XXI and A-Lex, all of which are half speed cut, remastered and back on 180g vinyl for the first time in a decade and also as a collector’s CD box.

In addition, the ‘Roorback’ album features the rare ‘Revolusongs’ EP, which is available for the first time digitally and saw the band celebrate their influences with covers of bands as musically broad as Devo, Exodus, U2 and Massive Attack!

Serving as a guided tour of the boxset, Derrick, Andreas and Paulo have curated a Spotify playlist of their favourite tracks from these albums which you can listen to HERE and to further wet your appetites, you can view a new vinyl unboxing video of ‘Sepulnation’ HERE:

‘Sepulnation – The Studio Albums 1998-2009’ brings the focus back on a period of the band that may have been missed by early supporters and shows that the fire continued to burn bright throughout.

“It’s an honor and privilege to be a part of Sepultura's history,” states frontman Derrick Green.

“I’m proud of all the work we have done together and it only makes sense to have this box set format released for the fans to have the complete history of Sepultura. Long live the Sepulnation!”

AD INFINITUM Announces New Album “Chapter II – Legacy” + Reveals First Single “Unstoppable”

Gripping New Album, Chapter II – Legacy, out October 29, 2021 via Napalm Records

Pre-Order NOW!

Following their captivating first single “Unstoppable” – which captured nearly 100,000 YouTube views within 24 hours of its debut – AD INFINITUM are back with another addictive new single, “Afterlife”. The track, which features magnificent frontwoman Melissa Bonny performing alongside fellow vocal powerhouse Nils Molin of modern metal frontrunners Amaranthe and power metal outfit Dynazty, has premiered today with a cinematic music video.

Cut from their upcoming album Chapter II – Legacy (out October 29 via Napalm Records), “Afterlife” propels the band into the realms of eternity with spine-chilling cembalo insertions, shivering strings and epic guitar riffs. This is an outstanding, harmonic duet that promises instant goosebumps!

AD INFINITUM on the new single:

“'Afterlife' is one of those songs that was an obvious candidate to introduce and represent the sound of our second album. We are proud to present a darker, heavier AD INFINITUM and we are thrilled to share “the stage” with one of the greatest voices in metal nowadays, mister Nils Molin.”

Nils Molin adds:

AD INFINITUM is one of those few bands that with their second album go beyond delivering upon the great promise established by their first release and instead shatter expectations with Chapter II – Legacy! I’m hella excited to contribute with my voice and be featured on the haunting and devilishly delicate track and second single release - 'Afterlife'!”

Check out the energetic music video for “Afterlife”

Symphonic metal onslaught AD INFINITUM are no strangers to the scene. With their spellbinding debut album, Chapter I - Monarchy (2020), brought to life in the middle of a global pandemic, the foursome reached millions of plays on streaming platforms. With its very first single, “Marching on Versailles”, riding high at more than 1.8M video views to date, the highly talented unit didn't put the brakes on. Instead, they transformed pandemic fatigue into heavier soundscapes without sacrificing their signature aura. Furthermore, frontwoman Melissa Bonny is consistently drawn to exciting musical collaborations, as she recently unveiled the brand new band THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON and their bittersweet reinterpretation of Florence & The Machine's Game Of Thrones soundtrack song, "Jenny Of Oldstones". In addition, Bonny's exciting feature with FEUERSCHWANZ on the song “Ding”(Seed-cover) has already gained over 2.6 million views on YouTube since its release. Now, she sets her focus back to her main musical force as AD INFINITUM – with Adrian Thessenvitz (guitars), Korbinian Benedict (bass) and Niklas Müller (drums) – unveils its new opus, Chapter II - Legacy.

Chapter II - Legacy surprises with a melting pot of different influences and a contrast between super heavy riffs, sometimes even djent/metalcore-like touches and catchy hook lines and melodies, giving the band's sophomore album a modern and equally timeless touch. The lyrics have, just like on their debut album, been inspired by a historical figure: the paradoxical life and afterlife of Vlad The Impaler, also known as Dracula, inspired the themes and questions of this album.

AD INFINITUM add:

Chapter II - Legacy holds a very special place in our heart. It represents months and months of hard work of four bandmates, for a result that we are proud to call “self-produced”. For this record, we decided to work without the influence of an external producer during the songwriting process and to team up with Elias Holmlid for the beautiful and epic orchestrations and of course with Jacob Hansen who recorded [vocals], mixed, mastered and participated to the post production. A younger and heavier sound that defines AD INFINITUM like never before.”

Pre-Order Chapter II – Legacy NOW

Chapter II - Legacy once again showcases the indispensable creativity of AD INFINITUM – featuring twelve complex, marvelous tracks highlighting their sonic development and undeniable symphonic strength. Such talent can be witnessed with opener “Reinvented”, lurking with lovely piano tunes and erupting in intense riffage in the blink of an eye. Right away, the music reflects the extremely multifaceted voice of Melissa Bonny – ranging from crystal clear vocals to impressively powerful screams and menacing growls. Hailing from hell, hard-hitting “Afterlife” features the vocal power of Nils Molin (Amaranthe, Dynazty), merging in perfect harmony with Melissa’s incredibly haunting delivery. Songs like “Your Enemy” and cinematic grand finale “Lullaby” leave no scope for weakness and unveil the heaviest side of AD INFINITUM to date. This grasping hymn is far from lulling you to sleep, as the eclectically versatile sonic world of AD INFINITUM immediately induces you to listen to Chapter II - Legacy again, right from the beginning!
