AUTARKH Shares Official Music Video for New Song, "Alignment"

From the fertile grounds of Tilburg (NL) rises new contemporary metal outfit AUTARKH, a group of musical extremists dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the auditory senses. Autarkh is the brainchild of Michel Nienhuis, founding member and composer/guitarist of DODECAHEDRON. Dodecahedron released 2 albums on the French record label Season Of Mist in 2012 and 2017 and has played at Inferno festival (NO), Reykjavík Metalfest (IS) Brutal Assault (CZ), Roadburn Festival (NL) and Eurosonic (NL) amongst others.

Death and illness was closing in on Dodecahedron, triggering a conceptual transformation that was necessary to effectuate Nienhuis’ artistic development. In the fall of 2019 Nienhuis teamed up with producer Joris Bonis (Dodecahedron, Ulsect), guitarist David Luiten and electronic composer / producer Tijnn Verbruggen, a set of musicians with backgrounds ranging from metal to techno. Autarkh’s first full length album ‘Form In Motion’ will be released the 12th of March 2021 through Season of Mist records.

AUTARKH takes a unique position in the world of extreme metal. Synthetic, IDM-style beats and glitch effects - reminiscent of those produced by artists such as Aphex Twin and Autechre - are perfectly balanced with overwhelming riffs and vocals that range from dark growls and exasperating screams to semi-clean harmonies. Together with fluttering blast beats, dense bass lines and eerie soundscapes these elements produce an intense and crystal clear tunnel of sound where the energy of contrasting emotions is constantly felt.

‘Form In Motion’ feels like an evolution in both sound and lyrical content from the two albums Nienhuis released with Dodecahedron. Musically, because of the radical approach the band takes with their rhythm section; lyrically because the album is more about a personal experience of human nature and the nature of the universe. The album takes us from unraveling storms and destructive chaos to transformation, liberation and fundamental shifts in understanding in order to align with the divine. That progression is also present in a linear sense – the intrusive uneasiness the album starts with gives way to a sense of epic victory towards the end.

Dutch extreme metal outfit AUTARKH are now unveiling the official music video for the song "Alignment," which is taken from their latest album 'Form In Motion.' AUTARKH comments: ''We are proud to present our second music video for ‘Alignment.’ The video was shot by the talented videographer Guilherme Henriques at Koepelhal and Textielmuseum in Tilburg (NL). ‘Alignment’ tries to capture a most desirable form of motion towards a realm where time and space are aligned, a realm of astonishing catharsis, self-government and independence. It feels like the right time to release this video; the times are still uncertain but it seems we’re moving towards more freedom with an abundance of gained experience.’

With a clear goal of reaching the apex of technical metal in terms of proficiency, arrangements and sound, OPHIDIAN I has produced the destructive full-length album ‘Desolate’.

Emerging from Iceland; the barren island in the north, home to apocalyptic weather, eruptions, and storms. The breeding intensity, blazing speed, and ferocity of OPHIDIAN I reflects the chaos it hails from as well as the inherent beauty and complex harmony. Consisting of familiar faces within the Icelandic scene as members of bands such as Helfró, Beneath, Une Misère and Atrum; OPHIDIAN I set forth with the intent of testing the boundaries of the extreme, while retaining focus on composition and arrangements.

After getting together and realizing the goal was within reach, the band spent days upon days in the rehearsal space expanding and calibrating their physical and mental abilities in order to actualize the envisioned form of OPHIDIAN I. Bound and determined to create an absolute no-compromise piece of work, OPHIDIAN I headed to the studio after having honed in on the direction and arrangements of the 10 songs that were to become ‘Desolate’. To finalize the vision, Eliran Kantor took to creating artwork fitting the forementioned direction and soundscape. With the completion of ‘Desolate’ the raison d’être of OPHIDIAN I had been established and partially fulfilled. Bringing the ferocity to the masses is now a central objective.

Incessantly at work, OPHIDIAN I is a monumental brute-force to be reckoned with. Amidst the dominant roster at Season of Mist, OPHIDIAN I will be unyielding in their claim to be amongst the titans of the industry. With various influences ranging from all styles, the unique melt of technical death metal – with immersive melody and hooks at every corner – ‘Desolate’ will appeal to all those who seek peak militant musicianship on all fronts.

Necronautical Announce Fourth Album + Share "Hypnagogia" Video

UK-based black metal act Necronautical have returned with the video for their new single "Hypnagogia."

The band also announced its fourth album Slain In the Spirit, due out August 20 via Candlelight/Spinefarm Records.

Indie pop artist Ender Bender presents his new single 'Have A Good Time', a retro-wave offering that is the first taster of his 'New Era' EP, scheduled for release in late June. Loaded with future-retro pop earworms, this EP is intended by Olguin as both an escape and a reminder of what is important - a soundtrack to help you enjoy yourself and have a good time.

Ender Bender is the solo project of composer/producer/multi-instrumentalist Eddie Olguin. The material on thiss new 5-track electro synthwave offering was written last summer in defiance of the spirit-crushing pandemic and his new obsession with the emerging retrowave/chillwave movement.

"Most of the music I have been listening to has a fun-retro 80s vibe, which served as the perfect distraction from the reality we were dealing with. This inspired me to create an EP that would also serve as an escape for others while positively touching upon the things we were forced to face, like the importance of friends and family and of truly leaving behind the petty bullshit that takes over our daily existence - we simply need to enjoy the beauty of life," says Eddie Olguin.

After years of living an adventurous rock-and-roll life in Los Angeles, Eddie Olguin moved to Rome in the name of love, but also found new energy and inspiration (void of scenes and scenesters) to reinvigorate his passion for music and redesign his musical career path.

Once settled in Rome, Olguin built a studio and made the transition from being a live performer to primarily a studio musician-producer. Thus was born Ender Bender - a new catalyst for his new mission.

With the Covid pandemic encouraging more time in the recording studio, 2020 motivated Eddie to hone his production skills and to begin composing instrumental cinematic cues. This led to scoring several corporate demos (for the development of a virtual reality game) and, ultimately, working as part of a busy collective of LA film composers. He has been working as a film composer ever since.

In 2020, Ender Bender debuted with his 'EQ' EP and singles 'Star Killer'and 'Honey Lavender Girl', released soon after the lockdown frenzy began. His first foray into studio production, this release garnered super reviews and international radio play.

Two Scottish alternative music legends - Chris Connelly and the incomparable Monica Queen - 'My Father Took Me Everywhere', present the new single from their collaborative album 'The Birthday Poems', to be released on June 15 via Jnana Records.

This album is a fictionalized account of the romance between celebrated Scottish poet and author George Mackay Brown and his muse Stella Cartwright, as well as Stelle's friendship with Edinburgh born poet Stanley Roger Green, spanning three decades (from the mid 1950s until Stella’s tragic and untimely death in 1985).

Named for the poems that George would write for Stella every birthday until she died, 'The Birthday Poems' is a song cycle based on the relationship between these highly signifiant cultural figures of 20th-century Scotland. Stella’s voice is sung by Monica Queen throughout this colossal and historically significant 18-track album.

The video for 'My Father Took Me Everywhere' stars Monica Queen as Stella. Inspired by the 1964 short film 'Palindrome' by Margaret Tait, which features some of the only known footage of Stella Cartwright, this video was created by Iain W. Mutch / Walkerandwilliam.

Kknown as the Muse of Rose Stree, Stella had an unique upbringing, which contributed to her love of literature. As a young girl attending Mary Erskine School for Girls in Edinburgh, Stella would ravenously devour literature, art and music. Her father would often take her to bars, parties, the theatre and other social and cultural events, where she would meet and charm Scotland's cultural elite.

The duo also recently shared the lead track 'Tae The Poets', featuring swaggering vocals by Connelly, the clever video for which was filmed on location at Chicago’s GMan Tavern and created by photographer Derick Smith and Matt Walker.

With 2021 being the 100th birthday of Orkney-born poet George Mackay Brown, this album represents a sometimes overlooked but very important part of Scottish culture. Stella had a deep relationship with Mackay Brown, which turned into a friendship enduring from the 50’s until her death in the ’80’s. It was not always a joyous one - neither of the pair were particularly happy, and their love of whisky did not help.

"While she had relationships with many of the poets who would haunt the bars of Edinburgh's Rose Street during the ’50s and ‘early ’60s, her love of literature, art and culture was insatiable. She was never given credit or encouraged in her own art and expression. I hope that this album illuminates the beautiful treasure that she was, and how hugely significant she is to Scottish literature of a certain era," says Chris Connelly.

"As a child and younger man in Edinburgh, I walked the same streets, drank in the same bars and walked the same hills. I was also lucky enough to be close friends with Stanley Roger Green’s children, who, highly creative in their own ways, greatly informed and inspired my life".

This album was produced by 30-year Connelly collaborator Chris Bruce, a long-time musical partner and band member of Meshell Ndegeocello, who has also worked with Seal, Aaron Neville, Bob Dylan, The Waterboys, My Brightest Diamond, Cheryl Crow and Sam Phillips, amongst others. This album also features strings by Dave Eggar and sax by Levon Henry, as well as contributions by Blake Collins and Phil Faconti.

While Monica Queen fronted 90s band Thrum and released 2 introspective albums with partner John Smillie, she has gained a reputation as Glasgow's guest vocalist of choice. Her formidable voice is widely familiar thanks to her vocal turn on Belle & Sebastian's much-loved 'Lazy Line Painter Jane'.

For almost forty years, Chris Connelly has completed creative pieces ranging from the triumphant to the tragic, from the humble to the hilarious - each time promptly moving on to seek his next inspiration. Since early days with FiniTribe in his native Edinburgh, Connelly has over twenty solo releases. He frequently collaborates with other musicians, building on notable projects with Ministry, The Revolting Cocks and Pigfaceand contributing to newer ones such as Cocksure and The Joy Thieves. As an explorer of art as a broader endeavour has also issued four books, encompassing the realms of poetry, autobiography, and fictional narrative.

As of May 31, 'My Father Took Me Everywhere' is available everywhere digitally, including Apple Music and Spotify. The full album 'The Birthday Poems' will be released on June 15, and can pre-ordered via Bandcamp.

Soon Connelly will perform a series of limited-seating shows in Chicago, performing songs from ‘The Birthday Poems’, as well as stories associated with Connelly’s discovery and investigation of the relationship which inspired the album. With May being Mental Health month, his first project as a solo artist and now label owner, "WEIGHT" is one of vulnerability, self-acceptance, and empowerment. This powerful music video bares all of Krizz Kaliko - and we do mean EVERYTHING! Although he has been an artist and in the music industry for over 20 years, his new single addresses a worldwide known stereotype--- being overweight.

“When you see the word weight, when you hear the word weight, most people think heavy. The message that I want to send to the world is that weight doesn't have to be heavy, it can be empowering. That is exactly what my single called WEIGHT did for me. For the first time since I was 13 years old, I faced the heavy burden of showing my body to the world. I did a video, stripped down to my bare skin, and finally exposed all of me to my fans. Once I did this, I felt the burden lift off my shoulders. I finally accepted myself. As a man, we don't usually show ourselves being vulnerable. Everyone has something that weighs them down or that holds them back, we need to risk being seen" says Krizz Kaliko.

Sterbhaus have released the live version of their iconic crowd-pleaser "Absolutely Do Not Die!" (Live). The track is the first taken from the band's upcoming live album 'Necrostabbing at Göta Källare - Live in Stockholm', which is set for release on July 9th, 2021 via Black Lodge Records.

The urban myth of French soldiers throwing their wooden shoes (named "sabot") into the machinery at the time of the industrial revolution - hence giving rise to the word "Sabotage" may be fiction, but it's an interesting allegory to when fate, reality, and the industry threw their wooden shoes in the machinery of one Stockholm based act in the most untimely of moments. What is so surprising is how amazingly well-oiled and blisteringly convincing the machinery of Sterbhaus remains with all those wooden shoes rattling around in there. The new live album "Necrostabbing at Gota Kallare - Live in Stockholm", which is so timely released now in the midst of the Covid pandemic shows Sterbhaus at their very best... and that has always been live. It's a hungry and energetic live show from a band eager to exact revenge from having been stranded locally when all booked tours after the new album release were canceled. The whole affair was actually also filmed and will be available on social media together with this live album.

Sterbhaus is the home of Marcus Hammarström (also in Shining), Erik Röjås (also in Ondskapt), Jimmy Ahovalli and at this time also Simon Olovsson (now in Avslut).

'Infernum In Terra' is the fourth studio album from A Pale Horse Named Death, and was mastered by Maor Appelbaum (Faith No More, Meat Loaf, Yes, Sepultura, Rob Halford, etc.) at Maor Appelbaum Mastering, while the artwork was done by Kelvin Doran of Serpent Tusk Studios. 

"The album to me represents a new beginning, turning a new leaf shall we say with the same vibe from past albums but with a fresh open minded approach," says band leader Sal Abruscato. He adds: "There is no real concrete specific concept, it touches on some personal topics in my life long, my interest in the dark arts, that to have light you must have darkness to balance everything. With daylight comes nightfall, with heaven there is hell and at this moment the world seems to be in a very dark place hence the title of the album ‘Infernum In Terra’. This is a very dark album, but what else is new I always write dark music to sooth a dark soul!"

Sal Abruscato was born in Brooklyn, NY Started playing drums at age 10. He is the co-founder of Type O Negative with Peter Steele and performed on Slow, Deep & Hard, Origin Of The Feces, Bloody Kisses, and various best of and soundtracks. Sal was the drummer for Life Of Agony and performed on River Runs Red, Ugly, River Runs Again, Broken Valley, and A Place Where There's No More Pain. Additional projects include Supermassiv & My Mortality. He is now the singer, songwriter, and guitarist for A Pale Horse Named Death.

LENNE, the new project with Jim Taylor, Morgan Rose, and Lenny Cerzosie Jr premiered the official music video for their debut single "Letting You Down" today. The single is now featured on Spotify's Rock Hard playlist!

Back in the early 2000's, Leonard Cerzosie Jr. started a band with his brother called The Infinite Staircase that did very well as an independent band. the band worked with artists like Earl Slick from David Bowie's band, Candlebox, Sevendust, and even Zakk Wylde. In 2009, they scored a slot on tour with Black Label Society, Sevendust, and Dope that sealed a lot of friendships they still have to this day.

"In 2010, the love of my life passed away suddenly. Pill overdose. It was a devastating time. She was only 27. Morgan Rose and I wrote and recorded the EP, No Amends that was a dedication to my love" says Leonard Cerzosie Jr.

He continues, "Over the years, I've had my hand in multiple projects. I formed "Le Projet" around 2013 that featured members of Candlebox, Sevendust, and The Infinite Staircase. I also joined the Baltimore band "The Mayan Factor" a few years ago and have toured with them in Mexico City and the states. During all this, my mother was diagnosed with ALS. One day- after performing a friend insisted on introducing me to someone. He was confident we needed to meet. That was the day I met Jim Taylor. We did get along immediately and have since been composing all sorts of music together."

"When my mother passed away, Morgan got very involved with what was going on with me and my dad. He invited us out to his place in Atlanta multiple times. We started recording songs with Corey Lowery that would ultimately become "LeNNe". We spent much time digging deep for the right lyrics and tones. There were multiple artists involved over the course of a few years, but the official line up is me and Jim led by Morgan" he adds.

"Lenne is one of the most real artists I’ve ever come across. He wears his heart on sleeve, and expresses vulnerability that hits you in the heart. I love how he tells a story. These songs are an emotional roller coaster into the mind of a tortured soul" says Morgan Rose.

"We are very excited to have Lenne on the Imagen Records roster. I can't wait for everyone to hear the music" says Bob Winegard, President of Imagen Records.

Season of Mist is pleased to announce that we have eleven esteemed artists performing at Metal Injection's upcoming final installment of their highly successful Slay at Home Festival! The stacked lineup will feature sets from ROTTING CHRIST, SÓLSTAFIR, CANNABIS CORPSE, BLACK TUSK, THE LION'S DAUGHTER, CARNATION, FOSCOR, and REPLACIRE while ABYSMAL DAWN guitarist Charles Elliott, members of GORGUTS, and members of VLTIMAS will be part of very special musical collaborations, respectively. May 27, 2021 - The legendary post-hardcore group, Thursday, are in the midst of a year of landmark anniversaries, including the twentieth anniversary of their breakout album Full Collapse and the tenth anniversary of their last release No Devolución. However, today the band released the long-awaited reissue of their 1999 full-length, Waiting. The always-coveted debut album has been long out of print until now, available on vinyl and streaming services through Velocity Records, the newly relaunched label in partnership with Equal Vision Records.

Speaking on the band’s debut effort, vocalist Geoff Rickly says:
“Most people think 'Full Collapse' is our first album but twenty two years ago, we took a bunch of demos out of the basement where we’d been writing and holding shows, and put them all together in one place to make our debut album, 'Waiting'. A lot has changed in those intervening years—- the record has gone out of print several times— but every single time I listen to this record, I can hear the start of Thursday, I can hear our hopes and dreams and all the ideas that would define the band, starting to take shape.”
