Tech N9ne Collaborator, KRIZZ KALIKO, Establishes New Label Ear House Inc.; Releases New Single "WEIGHT" + Official Music Video

"WEIGHT" stream/buy link: https://cmdshft.ffm.to/Weight

Coming off of a full-blown 20-yr explosive ride with Strange Music, the former Tech N9ne collaborator, KRIZZ KALIKO, has officially graduated from Strange Music and is now attending his own label, Ear House Inc.

With May being Mental Health month, his first project as a solo artist and now label owner, "WEIGHT" is one of vulnerability, self-acceptance, and empowerment. This powerful music video bares all of Krizz Kaliko - and we do mean EVERYTHING! Although he has been an artist and in the music industry for over 20 years, his new single addresses a worldwide known stereotype--- being overweight.

“When you see the word weight, when you hear the word weight, most people think heavy. The message that I want to send to the world is that weight doesn't have to be heavy, it can be empowering. That is exactly what my single called WEIGHT did for me. For the first time since I was 13 years old, I faced the heavy burden of showing my body to the world. I did a video, stripped down to my bare skin, and finally exposed all of me to my fans. Once I did this, I felt the burden lift off my shoulders. I finally accepted myself. As a man, we don't usually show ourselves being vulnerable. Everyone has something that weighs them down or that holds them back, we need to risk being seen" says Krizz Kaliko.

He continues, "I'm a big guy with all this weight on me but I continue to fight every day to fulfill my purpose and to find self-acceptance. Besides weight physically, weight also means weight on our shoulders. Everyone has something they battle regarding their looks, but we must get up every day and have a self-love. We all have something we are hiding behind, RISK BEING SEEN."

Krizz speaks about the meaning behind the video and song here:

His fan's started a #weightchallenge and it's pretty powerful. They are basically exposing their "imperfections" to the world using the #riskbeingseen and #weightchallenge

STERBHAUS Unleash Fan Favorite "Absolutely Do Not Die!" (Live)

STERBHAUS Unleash "Absolutely Do Not Die!" (Live)

Sterbhaus have released the live version of their iconic crowd-pleaser "Absolutely Do Not Die!" (Live). The track is the first taken from the band's upcoming live album 'Necrostabbing at Göta Källare - Live in Stockholm', which is set for release on July 9th, 2021 via Black Lodge Records.

The urban myth of French soldiers throwing their wooden shoes (named "sabot") into the machinery at the time of the industrial revolution - hence giving rise to the word "Sabotage" may be fiction, but it's an interesting allegory to when fate, reality, and the industry threw their wooden shoes in the machinery of one Stockholm based act in the most untimely of moments. What is so surprising is how amazingly well-oiled and blisteringly convincing the machinery of Sterbhaus remains with all those wooden shoes rattling around in there. The new live album "Necrostabbing at Gota Kallare - Live in Stockholm", which is so timely released now in the midst of the Covid pandemic shows Sterbhaus at their very best... and that has always been live. It's a hungry and energetic live show from a band eager to exact revenge from having been stranded locally when all booked tours after the new album release were canceled. The whole affair was actually also filmed and will be available on social media together with this live album.

Sterbhaus is the home of Marcus Hammarström (also in Shining), Erik Röjås (also in Ondskapt), Jimmy Ahovalli and at this time also Simon Olovsson (now in Avslut).

LISTEN / PRE-ORDER THE ALBUM

...And just a reminder, Sterbhaus also recently released a reaction video parody that's bound to conjure up a laugh or two.

Mick Blankenship Releases New Single "MY DARK SORROW" + Official Music Video

Mick Blankenship, the American rock artist, producer, songwriter, musician, and multi-instrumentalist released his new single "My Dark Sorrow" to all digital outlets.

"My Dark Sorrow" can be Streamed/Downloaded at www.mickblankenship.com

or iTunes, Spotify, Amazon

"My Dark Sorrow is a very real perspective of the dark side of your mind and suicide ideation. A glimpse into something that so many deal with but are too uncomfortable to talk about. The haunting of dark memories and realization of mortality that can lead us into a feeling of hopelessness and despair. I wrote this song to express a very real battle that mere words could never describe. My hope is to let those who struggle know they are not alone. I am with you. That we all get choices and that suicide can never end the pain, it only ends the possibility of it ever getting any better. The fight must go on!" says Mick.

GWAR’s “Disc With No Name” Out Today!

Unfiltered, uncouth and now unplugged, GWAR almost have us convinced with this acoustic EP that behind that four-dong udder there may just be a heart somewhere

-Loudwire-

It’s so GWAR to have some beautiful harmonies meshed with horrendously vile lyrics

-Metal Insider-

GWAR’s latest opus “Disc With No Name,” is out today on Pit Records. The band worked tirelessly on this acoustic masterpiece during last year’s “GWARantine,” and it is finally available for puny pathetic human ears.

Blóthar the Berserker says “When Sleazy P. Martini suggested we do something “unplugged” I was confused. It took me forever to get it plugged in the first place. Turns out he wanted us to record a few GWAR tunes, stripped down to chords, harmony and emotion. Now that I understand what’s going on, I’m thrilled with the project. I was finally able to release my inner Joni Mitchell. I swallowed her years ago, and she’s been living in my belly ever since.”

More breaking GWAR news; the band’s new Ragnarök Rye is available in stores today.

Stay tuned for more info from GWAR including updates on new music and fall touring plans.

Sal Abruscato about the new single:

"'Believe In Something (You Are Lost)' is about feeling lost with your emotions and beliefs with the outside world, you're on the verge of snapping, feeling alone and that’s the moment where you need to dig deep with your self, focus on what makes you feel better, ignore the rest who do not help. In a nutshell believe in your self and you can achieve anything!"

Pre-Order ‘INFERNUM IN TERRA’ Here

'Infernum In Terra' is the fourth studio album from A Pale Horse Named Death, and was mastered by Maor Appelbaum (Faith No More, Meat Loaf, Yes, Sepultura, Rob Halford, etc.) at Maor Appelbaum Mastering, while the artwork was done by Kelvin Doran of Serpent Tusk Studios.

"The album to me represents a new beginning, turning a new leaf shall we say with the same vibe from past albums but with a fresh open minded approach," says band leader Sal Abruscato. He adds: "There is no real concrete specific concept, it touches on some personal topics in my life long, my interest in the dark arts, that to have light you must have darkness to balance everything. With daylight comes nightfall, with heaven there is hell and at this moment the world seems to be in a very dark place hence the title of the album ‘Infernum In Terra’. This is a very dark album, but what else is new I always write dark music to sooth a dark soul!"

LENNE Premieres Offficial Music Video for Single "LETTING YOU DOWN"

NEW SINGLE "Letting You Down" OUT NOW via IMAGEN RECORDS can be downloaded/streamed at

https://songwhip.com/lenne/letting-you-down

LENNE, the new project with Jim Taylor, Morgan Rose, and Lenny Cerzosie Jr premiered the official music video for their debut single "Letting You Down" today. The single is now featured on Spotify's Rock Hard playlist!

The video can be seen here.

Back in the early 2000's, Leonard Cerzosie Jr. started a band with his brother called The Infinite Staircase that did very well as an independent band. the band worked with artists like Earl Slick from David Bowie's band, Candlebox, Sevendust, and even Zakk Wylde. In 2009, they scored a slot on tour with Black Label Society, Sevendust, and Dope that sealed a lot of friendships they still have to this day.

"In 2010, the love of my life passed away suddenly. Pill overdose. It was a devastating time. She was only 27. Morgan Rose and I wrote and recorded the EP, No Amends that was a dedication to my love" says Leonard Cerzosie Jr.

He continues, "Over the years, I've had my hand in multiple projects. I formed "Le Projet" around 2013 that featured members of Candlebox, Sevendust, and The Infinite Staircase. I also joined the Baltimore band "The Mayan Factor" a few years ago and have toured with them in Mexico City and the states. During all this, my mother was diagnosed with ALS. One day- after performing a friend insisted on introducing me to someone. He was confident we needed to meet. That was the day I met Jim Taylor. We did get along immediately and have since been composing all sorts of music together."

"When my mother passed away, Morgan got very involved with what was going on with me and my dad. He invited us out to his place in Atlanta multiple times. We started recording songs with Corey Lowery that would ultimately become "LeNNe". We spent much time digging deep for the right lyrics and tones. There were multiple artists involved over the course of a few years, but the official line up is me and Jim led by Morgan" he adds.

"Lenne is one of the most real artists I’ve ever come across. He wears his heart on sleeve, and expresses vulnerability that hits you in the heart. I love how he tells a story. These songs are an emotional roller coaster into the mind of a tortured soul" says Morgan Rose.

"We are very excited to have Lenne on the Imagen Records roster. I can't wait for everyone to hear the music" says Bob Winegard, President of Imagen Records.

"Letting You Down" is the first single to be released. The song features Leonard Cerzosie Jr.Morgan RoseJim Taylor, and Corey Lowery.

Thursday reissue debut album 'Waiting' via Velocity Records

THURSDAY REISSUE DEBUT ALBUM WAITING
THROUGH VELOCITY RECORDS
AVAILABLE ON VINYL AND STREAMING SERVICES NOW

STREAM & PURCHASE WAITING

May 27, 2021 - The legendary post-hardcore group, Thursday, are in the midst of a year of landmark anniversaries, including the twentieth anniversary of their breakout album Full Collapse and the tenth anniversary of their last release No Devolución. However, today the band released the long-awaited reissue of their 1999 full-length, Waiting. The always-coveted debut album has been long out of print until now, available on vinyl and streaming services through Velocity Records, the newly relaunched label in partnership with Equal Vision Records.

Speaking on the band’s debut effort, vocalist Geoff Rickly says:
“Most people think 'Full Collapse' is our first album but twenty two years ago, we took a bunch of demos out of the basement where we’d been writing and holding shows, and put them all together in one place to make our debut album, 'Waiting'. A lot has changed in those intervening years—- the record has gone out of print several times— but every single time I listen to this record, I can hear the start of Thursday, I can hear our hopes and dreams and all the ideas that would define the band, starting to take shape.”

Thursday teased the reissue in the lead-up to their Signals V3 - Full Devolución livestream event by offering a limited edition vinyl variant alongside tickets, which sold out immediately upon release. Waitingis now widely available to stream and to preorder on vinyl here.

KHANDRA Streams New Album Ahead of Release

Belarusian black metal entity KHANDRA will be releasing the new full-length, 'All Occupied by Sole Death,' via Season of Mist Underground Activists, The band is now streaming the record in its entirety ahead of it’s release. Listen at THIS LOCATION.
'All Occupied by Sole Death' is available for pre-orders at the Season of Mist shop HERE.

"The only horrible thing in the world is ennui… That is the one sin for which there is no forgiveness." – Oscar Wilde

Shrouded in a veil of mystery and death, Belarusian black metal entity KHANDRA are unleashing their debut full-length upon mankind. Characterized by aggressive dissonance and a haunting atmosphere, the band’s new assault recalls the black metal sound coined by bands such as MGŁA and BLAZE OF PERDITION.

KHANDRA’s first revelations were unveiled in October 2017 under the banner ‘All is of no avail,’ which subsequently merged with its successor ‘There’s no division outside existence’ in October 2018.

"Khandra" [xɐnˈdra] is a term that describes the feeling of crippling listlessness or melancholy that takes one over when in a state of boredom. However, the band's overarching concept challenges this notion of ennui, attempting to exceed the limits of the imagination, utilizing music as a vessel of expression that has no emotional or logical confines.

Music Icon DEE SNIDER to Release Fifth Full-Length Album, Leave A Scar, via Napalm Records

Watch New Music Video for Charging Brand New Single “I Gotta Rock (Again)”

Leave A Scar out July 30, 2021

Pre-Order HERE

In 2018, legendary heavy metal vocalist and pop culture pillar DEE SNIDER turned the heavy music world on its axis with his transformative album, For The Love Of Metal. Produced by Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta, the album re-cemented Dee’s undeniable prowess with its modernized mastery and take-no-prisoners attitude. Three years later, with one of the most collectively tumultuous times society has ever experienced behind him, DEE SNIDER triumphantly returns with his fifth full-length album, Leave A Scar, out July 30, 2021 via Napalm Records!

Once again produced by Jamey Jasta with co-production, mixing and mastering by drummer Nick Bellmore, Leave A Scar sees DEE SNIDER & Co. continuing in the invigorated direction of For The Love Of Metal, infusing a dose of classic heavy metal flavor that longtime fans will rush to embrace.

In celebration of the album’s announcement, DEE SNIDER has unleashed the album’s first single, the charging track “I Gotta Rock (Again)”, accompanied by a new music video. The track first premiered yesterday via SiriusXM Liquid Metal. Channeling his years as one of music’s most respected vocalists while harnessing modern flair, DEE SNIDER delivers a headbanging anthem of lifelong dedication to heavy metal – no matter what!

DEE SNIDER says about “I Gotta Rock (Again)”:

"‘I Gotta Rock (Again)’ is the starting gun for this album and the driving motivation behind me returning to the studio to record Leave a Scar. At the end of 2019, I had felt my recording and live performing was over, but I didn't announce it to the world. I mentally had decided I was done. But the state of things in 2020 had other plans for me. Between Covid and the political state around the globe, I found myself yearning (yes, I yearn) to get back in the studio. In the immortal words of Ice Cube, "I got somethin' to say!"

Watch the brand new music video for “I Gotta Rock (Again)”

Like a scar itself, Leave A Scar is an illuminating plentitude of angst etched in time – serving as a musical refuge and expressive output for Dee. But in turn, this auditory time capsule written to express the anger, unease and pain he experienced during lockdown emerges as not only blisteringly heavy, but relentlessly powerful. Each of the 12 tracks on Leave A Scarnot only further bolster DEE SNIDER’s position as one of the most celebrated frontmen of all time, showcasing that his vocal delivery and commanding swagger is as strong as ever, but that he is nowhere near stopping.

Heads will bang within seconds of the hard-charging opening notes of ultra-catchy album starter and lifer anthem “I Gotta Rock (Again)”, instantly setting the stage for the non-stop onslaught of metallic mainstays to come. Tracks like the brutal “Time To Choose” – featuring the primed guest vocal attack of Cannibal Corpse’s George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher – and mosh-ready “The Reckoning” showcase the album’s heavy assault, without sacrificing the harmonic goodness evident on tracks like the unrelenting, hooky thrasher “All Or Nothing More” and melodic, metalcore inspired “In For The Kill”. Energetic single of strength “Down But Never Out” encapsulates the chunky riffage and driving drums palpable throughout the album, while searing “Before I Go” provides one of the album’s most massive, memorable choruses and chilling lyrics. The album closes with victorious ballad “Stand”, a call for listeners to take a stand and make their voices heard. If For The Love Of Metal ignited DEE SNIDER’s eminent surge into a new era – Leave A Scar sets it ablaze.

DEE SNIDER says about Leave A Scar:

“By the end of 2020, I knew I not only had to get back into the studio, but for the first time since the '90s, I wanted – no, needed – to be a part of the writing process. I reached out to my producer Jamey Jasta and told him I was ready to make another record. Leave a Scar is filled with messages to and for the silent voices in the world who need someone to speak out on their behalf. This is my purpose.”

Jamey Jasta says regarding working with DEE SNIDER again:

“Getting to work with Dee again has been incredible! The power and range in his vocals on this album really shine. Not only is he an American treasure and staple in the rock/metal community, he’s a truly original voice and talent like no other. Combine that with the metallic prowess of the Bellmore bros + Russell Pzütto and Nick Petrino, you get a rockin’ metal recipe that even the most "Dee-hard" SMF’ers will surely love!”

CIRCUS OF ROCK ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM; ALL-STAR CAST JOINS FINNISH DRUMMER MIRKA RANTANEN

ALL-STAR CAST JOINS FINNISH DRUMMER MIRKA RANTANEN

"COME ONE, COME ALL" COMING AUGUST 6, 2021

NEW SINGLE + VIDEO, 'DESPERATE CRY' FEAT. JOHNNY GIOELI OUT NOW

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the forthcoming release of Circus Of Rock's debut album, "Come One, Come All" on August 6, 2021. Circus Of Rock is a new band, or rather a massive musical project, masterminded by drummer Mirka Rantanen (King Company). The debut single, 'Desperate Cry' featuring Johnny Gioeli (Hardline, Axel Rudi Pell) on lead vocals is out today. See the video HERE.

Pre/order save "Come One, Come All" HERE: https://orcd.co/circusofrock

"My musical influences in making "Come One, Come All" come from a mix of artists I've been exposed to over the years. My own bands which I've been involved in and, of course, my own musical idols. In music, I love more than anything classic melodic hard rock and that shows on this album. I wanted to make the kind of music I could stand behind completely. The intention was just to have fun with musicians I admire and have everybody perform great songs," says Circus Of Rock mastermind Mirka Rantanen.

"As for the recording of the album, last summer we had all the songs and demos ready. I recorded the drums in early autumn and then everyone else did their part in different studios or at home during autumn and end of the year. Since the album has almost 40 musicians, it was a bit of a challenge to keep everything in order when it comes to sessions. Dozens of tracks could arrive to me on the same day. I worked closely with mixer Kimmo Ahola so that we both kept up to date with what was coming in, what had been transferred, etc. It was quite a job and I still have to tip my hat to Kimmo for putting this puzzle together," continues Rantanen.

“Come One, Come All” has a killer line-up of singers and musicians, a full list of which you can see below. The amazing talents involved come from the likes of Amaranthe, Tyketto, Hardline, Nightwish, Leverage, and more, plus musicians from bands such as Stratovarius, Brother Firetribe, Masterplan, and others.

Hardline and Axel Rudi Pell frontman Johnny Gioeli handles lead vocals on first single 'Desperate Cry'. Rantanen explains, "'Desperate Cry' was called 'Why' at first, but when Johnny got it, he wanted to change the lyric a little bit and it became 'Desperate Cry'. This was the first song that came together for the album. It is written by songwriter/guitarist Ade Manninen and as soon as I heard the demo of it, I was absolutely sure it would go to Johnny. It fits his voice perfectly. Unfortunately, Ade died of cancer May 9th and will not be able to see the release of the song or the entire album. The guy in the video is a "stunt guitarist" because Ade was no longer able to participate in the video shootings due to his health. But he's in our memories now here and a few other songs he plays on. The song is about a relationship ending between two people and the pain involved with that, but after Ade's death, the story took on a whole new meaning, at least for me."

“A few years ago I started to think about recording a solo album; however, I didn’t want to do just a traditional solo album. That’s because people often think a solo album is mainly to allow the musicians to show off their fantastic skills and magnificent instruments, but I wanted to focus more on the great songs that don’t happen to have extra drum solos. I also wanted to include many fantastic colleagues with whom I have played over the years on this album, and in addition a couple of great guest singers. My intention is to get the album released in 2021, when I turn 50. And now this will happen thanks to the Frontiers label. The album will be a kind of milestone in my professional career, my long-term 'dream that is finally coming true' type of thing," says Rantanen.

Confirmed singers and musicians appearing on the album include:

- Jarkko Ahola

- Rick Altzi (Masterplan)

- Kimmo Blom (Leverage)

- Johnny Gioeli (Hardline)

- Marco Hietala (ex-Nightwish)

- Erik Kraemer (Simulacrum)

- Mark Quee

- Antti Railio

- Pasi Rantanen (Thunderstone)

- Elize Ryd (Amaranthe)

- Tommi “Tuple” Salmela

- Riku Turunen

- Danny Vaughn (Tyketto)

Mirka Rantanen has a long career in the Finnish hard rock scene. He has played on 40+ albums during his 30 year career, including releases by King Company, Raskasta Joulua, Kotipelto, Warmen, Northern Kings, Revolution Renaissance, and more. In addition, ten years ago he created the very popular heavy rock band for kids called ‘Hevisaurus’, for which he was awarded the Emma Award in 2011 (the Finnish equivalent of a Grammy).

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Hardline "Surrender"

"HEART, MIND AND SOUL" DUE JULY 9, 2021

"Although the title is “Surrender”, the message is NEVER SURRENDER. The message in this song is clear…we must all find our value on this earth. And most importantly, recognize that we HAVE value no matter what career, level of income, or what “things” we own. We ALL share the same stresses this life puts on us. And stress/pain is all relative to how we feel inside each one of us. Our focus must be our “purpose”. The simplest things in life can give us purpose. I hope this song sheds light on lifting you up when you feel down, empowers you when you feel the need for more life gas in the tank. And I hope you recognize that you are never alone. Let the music take you to a new level of happy. Kick ass everyone! And I love you all. I do." — Johnny Gioeli

Moreover, the band's latest single, "Casting in Wait," has landed the #1 spot on Gimme Radio's weekly Top 40 charts! The song and video can be found at THIS LOCATION.
ICYMI: Artist Paul Romano (MASTODON, HATE ETERNAL, etc.) gave an in-depth behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the unique album art for 'Verloren!' Both Romano and WITHERED vocalist/guitarist Mike Thompson give in-depth interviews about the concept, working together, and more in this detailed article, which is accompanied by an exclusive video clip and photos! Check it out via Heaviest of Art at THIS LOCATION.

'Verloren' is due on June 25 via Season of Mist Underground Activists! The album can be pre-ordered HERE.

From its inception, WITHERED has been an outlier, a perplexing charge of extremity which the metal scene has never been able to put its finger on.

“We want to compound new elements into every album,” posits guitarist/vocalist Mike Thompson, “and we’re definitely a band for metal nerds. Our audience seems to be the old-schoolers who are absorbed by this stuff every day and jaded folks of a certain age. Industry types and peers tend to get it, but that’s about it.”

Thompson’s self deprecating assessment of his creative output might be part gentlemanly humility talking or a harshly realistic take on WITHERED’s cult status, or somewhere in between, but with an impressive body of work fanned out over the course of 18 years and five albums which have weathered as many trends, the Atlanta quartet continues to confound and refuses to compromise. New album, Verloren is the band’s most daring and iconoclastic work yet, one that spits in the eye of complacency and exists as a contrarian masterstroke.

Originally formed by Thompson and ex-guitarist/vocalist Chris Freeman in 2003 following a spell in local grind institution Social Infestation (alongside Mastodon’s Troy Sanders), WITHERED’s initial goal was to re-write black, doom and death metal modes and mores. To that end, the band has achieved that goal as their sound and aesthetic refuses to clearly state which subgenre they call home. Over the course of its history, WITHERED has generated more questions than answers about who they are and what they do. They’ve toured with the varied likes of Mastodon, High on Fire, Dismember, Grave, Vital Remains, Possessed, Watain, Mayhem, 1349, Krallice, Skeletonwitch and Danzig. Their live show provides an air of never-know-what-you’re-gonna-get mystery. See them on one occasion and it’s a DIY kick in the gut with stripped down, rehearsal room bareness appropriately complementing the lunacy. The next time they get in the van they’ll do so accompanied by rigged up columns of light cloaking the stage in bloody reds and searing whites. And with Verloren, the band’s forthcoming fifth album, Thompson and his band mates – drummer Beau Brandon, bassist Rafay Nabeel and fellow guitarist/vocalist Dan Caycedo – continue to nudge both thematic and sonic goalposts by providing relatable food for thought while retaining the adversarial fire that has powered the engine since the start.

“There’s a philosophical introspective approach to the subject matter that informs our writing style. We’re trying to create an atmosphere that complements the themes and that’s something we’re trying to circle back around to on Verloren.”

WITHERED’s first album, 2005’s Memento Mori, generally speaking, tackled the subject of mortality and the grieving process that follows significant loss, trauma and tragedy. Album number two, 2008’s Folie Circulaire was, as Thompson describes, “more existentialist, nihilistic and Nietzsche-ian” while 2010’s Dualities was an exploration of Jungian psychology and the shadow self. As alluded to in the title, 2016’s Grief Relic started into the U-turn back towards the exploration of the role and impact of grief as the men of WITHERED themselves entered that stage of life in which older family members, friends and childhood heroes were passing away, expectedly and otherwise. Five years on, Verloren rounds out the turn with a sinister sound and an area of study more akin to a deep therapy/counseling session instead of the usual gore and lore that often emboldens extreme music.

“Rafay wanted to use the theme of ‘missing’,” explains Thompson, “which was broad and abstract, so I dialed it down to be more about this outlook I’ve developed over the years about how each of us have a ‘Love Well.’ Every bit of love you get from your parents, your upbringing and your learning how to receive and experience love in relationships and through experiences contributes to the well. Your traumas counterbalance that and take away from it, especially when foundational core elements take a hit, like the untimely loss of a parent. That’s one of life’s unique puzzle pieces and when that piece is removed it’s never going to be replaced.

“We’re equipped with a certain capacity – our wells are filled to a certain level – and when you start getting smacked with traumas, whatever you have in that well - your defense mechanisms - can get worn down pretty quickly, especially for someone who has never really known love because of a broken home, difficult relationships or whatever. Each one of us in WITHERED carry unique traumas that we’ve focused this new record on. For me, most of my significant losses are from older wounds that I’ve dealt with through WITHERED from the very beginning, but with this being the first album with Dan and Rafay, it’s like a new exercise for them to really focus on the things they’ve been carrying around.”

Verloren translates to “missing” from German and relates not just to the friends, family and pieces of the member’s lives and hearts that have, and will go, missing as the time ticks on unfettered, but also, in the face of the global pandemic, just how much the activity of being in a band has been missed by everyone who took the write/record/tour cycle for granted. Verloren demonstrates a topical uniqueness; one that discusses the stuff everyone from the steeliest of black metal cape wearers to the gore-obsessed death metal crushers and everyone playing in a band or not has had to - or will have to - confront at some point. By leveling the elitist playing field so often found in extreme metal underground attitudes, Verloren offers a more holistic experience, elevating WITHERED by being unafraid to discuss topics that fly in the face of what most would connect to the sounds they make.

“About two years before I started WITHERED,” Thompson recalls, “I went through a series of traumas where I was forced to take stock of and define my foundational ‘puzzle pieces’ that could be taken away and what the trauma and grief is going to look like when I lose close family and/or friends I truly care about. Ironically, one I didn’t face until recently was WITHERED. No one ever thought that not being able to play shows or tour because of a pandemic was even feasible. I processed the idea of losing WITHERED and playing music and touring and everything else around the time of Grief Relic when two guys quit the band and I lost a lot of steam and inspiration. Luckily, Beau was there to kick my ass and shake me out of it. When it comes to this album, there was an initial suffering of anxiety because of the uncertainty in the world and the fear of losing this album because we put a lot into it, are super proud of it and it is the best WITHERED album yet. It’s important for my inspiration and motivation to go forward. It takes so much effort for us to create a record, the thought of it for it to all be for naught or potentially be wasted just destroys me.

“Surprisingly, we haven’t had a lot of push back on these themes, though I would love to take on that conflict!” he laughs. “For most people, metal is purely aesthetic, a grandstanding ‘f-you!’ to society and an adolescent rebellion kind of thing. But at the same time, we do get positive feedback from the people who have looked a bit deeper and done some research. We just want to be honest. We used to make the joke when we go out on tour, especially in the early days when deathcore was all the rage and we’d be on these weird package bills, that ‘Hey, we’re WITHERED and we’re here to bum you out.’ We’re not a party band or a shock band so you don’t get the fun aspect from us when going to a show. I’ve always been frustrated that we’ve never been able to communicate our super-realism and the different perspectives of life. If I want to sing about how much gratitude I have for my mother in a roundabout way, then whatever, we’ll do it!”

As WITHERED enters its third decade, they’ve drawn a more insular and conclusive line in the sand. The band has forged further forward with the process of eschewing typicality, including not utilizing any of the usual producer suspects to help sculpt Verloren. Instead, they flew the flag of independence by again going down the route of self-production with Thompson himself taking the bull by its horns.

“We get a little bit more deliberate every time around and starting with Grief Relic we decided not to hire anyone to help produce and filter it through a particular lens. We started self-producing and I kind of took the reins on that last time and more so this time and also when it came to selecting who was going to engineer [Raheen Amlani at Orange Peel Recordings], then mix [Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studios] and master it [Jarrett Pritchard]. The trick is to find someone who loves Times of Grace as much as they love Clandestine and His Hero is Gone, Napalm Death and all the way out to later Enslaved and can balance all those things. If it’s truly honest and truly communicating the intention of a song, then it’ll be powerful, heavy and generate emotion.”

Verloren also revisits WITHERED’s traditional methodological step of sitting down and looking at the present state of metal before consciously lashing out against what’s taking up most of the broader public’s attention.

“We’re constantly looking for something new to do. We love genre bending and putting D-beats next to funereal riffs next to black metal blasts and heavy doom riffs and figuring out how to make it all work and make sense with whatever vibe we’re trying to nail down. For this one, I wanted to lean back into the funereal doom world. I got burnt out when doom – especially southern doom, being a southern band - was the word of the day around the time of our first two records. We basically ran in the other direction and got away from doing any full-on doom parts for a while. I wanted to come back around to that, so we went back to bigger stuff like My Dying Bride for the couple of eight minute epics on the album [album opener “By Tooth in Tongue” and closer “From Ashen Shores”]. Also, for the first time in my life and against my better judgment, I decided to write clean vocals and I’m singing on two songs. They’re kind of buried in the mix a little bit because I’m still self-conscious about them, but they were the only things that made sense for the parts we wrote. I tried to fight it, but nothing extreme was accomplishing the goal. On top of that, we go the other way where three of the songs have some super crusty and grind elements. Part of why I asked Dan to join the band was because I knew he would get the sludgy, crusty side of things and help me cultivate that better in WITHERED. On the album, ‘The Predation,’ ‘Dissolve’ and ‘Casting in Wait’ are his. Those would be the twists on this album because we’re always trying to write what we think is missing and what we want to hear in heavy music after sitting down and looking at the landscape of what’s out there.”

And despite being deliberate oppositional in the subject matter they choose to explore and express, how much of their hearts and souls they choose to strip bare for fickle crowds and grind against whatever current musical grain the rest are cruising along, the determination, seriousness and importance of WITHERED in each member’s lives hasn’t ebbed. In fact, it’s only been magnified with time and circumstance. Having been forced into a year off from normal band life has made it clear how vital WITHERED is for everything from creative expression, social networking, wanderlust, overall personal sanity and moving forward.

“Personally, I’m very, very fortunate with regards to my family and others being supportive and taking what I do seriously. Looking back, I could be really selfish and headstrong about music. My family got so used to it that they would volunteer to schedule dinners and family events around rehearsals and practice because they were able to glean how important this was to me and how seriously I took it. Even moving out into the real world with the professional realm of things and the jobs that we have had in order to keep this going, I’d say it’s taken more seriously now than ever. We’re constantly challenging ourselves to progress and carve our own path. WITHERED is a permanent part of my life, it’s what I expect to be there. I’ve built so much on it and I’ve somehow been able to weave it into my life to where it’s a defining part of me as well. This isn’t rock star fantasy camp, although the other weekend I was bored, missing travelling and sitting around so I took the band van out and just drove out for three hours, turned around and came home!”

The film will include never-be-seen bonus material that was not included during their April premiere. The film includes the following:
- A 6 min biographical intro narrated by author Dayal Patterson (Black Metal: Evolution of the Cult)
- The full concert 'In the Mountains of Sognametal,' which was filmed live at the mountains of Sogndal June 2020. Exclusively available here.
- 2 previously unreleased live videos of Ulcus Molle ( VREID's predecessor) from Gaupne in Norway 1996. For the the songs "Train of Thought" ( 'Yggdrasil' demo) and "Mindgames" ('Roles' EP)

Wild North West' is a concept album that developed alongside an entire movie. Inspired by both true events and pure imagination, the listener is taken on a whirlwind of a journey, diving deep into themes of war, fear, betrayal, loss, anxiety, and madness with thought-provoking lyrics that embody human nature. It captures the Nordic heart at the core of their sound, taking cues from Norway’s rugged landscape as it ricochets between eternal darkness and the solace of bracing light.

Moreover, VREID has recently been inducted into Norway's National Museum of Popular Music Rockheim! The band is featured as a part of Rockheim's Millennium exhibition and are also included in Norwegian music history.

In addition, VREID recently announced their exciting and unique partnership with the Sogndal Football Club! The club has for many years been known for developing and cultivating extraordinary talent, as the men's team currently plays in first division, the second tier of the Norwegian football league system. Now, Sogndal Football Club is paying tribute to the band that has brought Sognametal to the whole world, by putting the logo of metal veterans and forefathers VREID on the chest of player’s uniforms for this upcoming season.

ICYMI: VREID has recently appeared on Norway's TV2, the biggest commercial news station in the country! The clip spotlighted the band's 'Into the Mountains of Sognametal' livestream, which attracted over 140,000 fans from all over the world when it premiered in June of 2020, as well as the band's ambitious upcoming album and film. The TV2 news item can be seen HERE.

'Wild North West' is out now! The album is available to be streaming, downloaded, or purchased at THIS LOCATION.

From its tumultuous inception, the Norwegian metal scene has always been about pioneering. While embracing the illustrious black metal history as part of their musical heritage, the many iconic bands have now evolved in various directions. Leading the black ‘n roll movement in Norway, VREID are the perfect example of that. The band arose in 2004 from the ashes of WINDIR after the tragic perishing of Terje ‘Valfar’ Bakken. The Sognametal legends declared the mission of exploring new musical paths, which they have pushed to even greater heights on their new record ‘Wild North West’.

The ninth record is not just a collection of songs, but a concept album that developed alongside an entire movie. Throughout eight chapters you will be taken on a journey deep into the mountains, to a dark place where the borders between reality and fantasy fade and where death is only one step behind you: The Wild North West. Not just in sheer size of the project but also in terms of music videography, creativity, and determination, VREID have done something truly unique and lifted their art to a new dimension.

On the concept, founder and bass player Jarle Hváll Kvåle states: "Wild North West is a concept story about life itself and its eternal shadow: death. It is built around the world of our fictional character E, but it is surely inspired by my own life, my band’s life, historical events and many tales that have inspired me over the years. Is it a true story or fictional? I would have to say both, and sometimes is hard tell the difference.”

‘Wild North West’ features the most extreme and intense work of the band to date, as well as heavy and melodic rock songs. These influences have always been a part of VREID’s DNA, and it is this combination that makes up the spirit of Sognametal. A remarkable homage to that same musical spirit is the song “Into the Mountains”. The ideas for that track were written in 2002 by Jarle ‘Hváll’ Kvåle and Terje ‘Valfar’ Bakken (WINDIR). Inspired by these ideas, Hváll wrote the song and included the original demo keyboard tracks from 2002, recorded back then by Valfar.

VREID have always chosen a course of constant evolution that is marked by thematically denoted phases regarding their often historically inspired lyrics. This became particularly clear with albums ‘I Krig’ (2007) and ‘Milorg’ (2009), which both revolved around concepts dealing with resistance and liberation of Norway during World War II. With their following three records, the pitch black brigade returned to their Norse roots on ‘Sólverv’ which received high critical acclaim in 2015.

In 2018, the Norwegians teamed up with Season of Mist for their previous full-length ‘Lifehunger’, a record that successfully blended elements of 70’s rock, 80’s classic metal, and Norwegian black metal and which featured a remarkable guest contribution from SÓLSTAFIR’s vocalist Addi Tryggvason on the track “Hello Darkness”.

VREID have hammered out their success partly by being a heavily touring band. The four-piece performed more than 500 shows in 25 countries so far. Their everlasting march to conquer new territories has led the Norwegians to headline tours in Europe, North America, Japan, and India.

The band’s onward march did not come to a halt in 2020, a year that will go down as devastating for the international music scene. VREID launched their own beer, which turned out to be the biggest success of the Balder Brewery as the first batches were sold out immediately. Instead of waiting to be able to tour again, the Norwegians invited the fans to their home region and hosted a massive streaming concert among the beautiful mountainous surroundings of the Sognefjord. The concert, ‘Into the Mountains of Sognametal’ took place in June 2020 was viewed by over 140.000 people from more than 40 countries.

In 2021, VREID will once more invite the fans to their dark, cold, and wild universe but tread carefully as from these haunted mountains, no man can descend.

Welcome to the Wild North West.

Black Metal Duo STORMRULER Reveals Scorching New Track, "At The Cliffs Of Azure City" + New Video

Debut Album, Under The Burning Eclipse, out this Friday, May 28

Pre-Order HERE

Stream Virtual Album Release Show HERE via Black Metal Promotion this Friday at 12pm PDT/3pm EDT/9pm CEST!

Fast-rising St. Louis, MO, USA based black metal export STORMRULER will release their infernal, fantasy battle-inspired full-length offering, Under The Burning Eclipse, this Friday, May 28 via Napalm Records, and are gracing fans with a special early surprise - a brand new lyric video for the track "At The Cliffs Of Azure City"!

Combat-ready standout “At The Cliffs Of Azure City” proves exactly why STORMRULER have turned heads in the underground with their grim attack. The track incorporates ruminations of classic heavy metal combined with scorched, war-torn percussion to create a blackened offering for the modern age.

STORMRULER says about the track:

“'At The Cliffs Of Azure City' is a track that demonstrates a bit of an off-kilter approach, with the first riff in 5/4 and a bridge section that has a traditional heavy metal feel. Lyrically it describes a city under siege by a powerful sorceress and her army of mages."

Watch the brand new lyric video for

“At The Cliffs Of Azure City”

On release day, May 28, at 12pm PDT/3pm EDT/9pm CEST, Black Metal Promotion will stream STORMRULER's very first performance virtually, for free, in celebration of the new album's release! The band is thrilled to announce that fans will be able to experience their sinister mastery in all its glory on the very same day - from their own homes. Watch the stream HERE on May 28!

STORMRULER – featuring the dark lyrical genius and deft skill of guitarist/vocalist Jason Asberry and drummer Jesse Schobel – have built a noteworthy subterranean following since their formation, leading to their recent signing with Napalm Records. Combining unrelenting black metal atmosphere and vision from varying metal genres with a brutal, modernized twist of inspiration, careful listeners may just be able to identify themes from some of their favorite stories, games and more…

Featuring 19 tracks alternating between ominous instrumental ambience and incendiary black metal riffs and fury, the album tells harrowing tales of war, death, victory and defeat, and delivers an unmatched, hellscaped auditory experience. Creeping in like menacing sonic smoke, instrumental ambient intro track “Shine Of Ivory Horns” launches directly into opener “Reign Of The Winged Duke”, instantly careening into a cascade of pummeling drums and charred riffage. Under The Burning Eclipse evenly ebbs and flows between warning mystical atmosphere and ghastly action, evident on the likes of blackened headbobbers “Age Of Steel & Blood”, “Dawn Of The Eternal Fire” and unrelenting 8+ minute title epic “Under The Burning Eclipse”. Standout burner “Of Hollowed Souls & Distant Flame” looks to the north with archaic screams and memorable, colossal progressions, while combat-ready tracks like “At The Cliffs Of Azure City” incorporate ruminations of classic heavy metal combined with scorched, war-torn percussion. The album traverses desolate musical peaks and valleys before closing with the otherworldly brutality of “Fear The Old Blood” – a non-stop onslaught of black metal attack – and ambient, acoustically-driven finisher of olde “Fields Of Mortal Shame”. Under The Burning Eclipse is a solid hour of fantasy-laden, grim fables transfixed in blackened scourge. Fans of extreme metal will not want to miss this debut offering from the mighty STORMRULER!

The BluRay/CD live event, including some pre- and after-show bonus content, will be released on August 13, 2021. It follows their latest record, Born To Perish (#26 GER album charts), recalling a nearly two hour live stream attack the heavy steamroller unleashed in January this year.

SCHMIER states:

“‘Mad Butcher’ is one of the first songs we ever wrote, such a classic! I still love to perform it live, it is in my DNA meanwhile, I guess! There are a lot of memories that come along with this track and the history of the band.

We brought back the double-lead section from the EP version into the solo part; many fans have reacted at that during the live shows, which is really cool! But this DVD will also have some nice surprises, some songs we have not played live in decades…!”

Now, 39 years into their unstoppable rampage of a career, DESTRUCTION bring the power of hard-hitting drums, speedy riffs and punishing vocals to the comfort of your home on the new BluRay & 2 Audio CD’s, Live Attack!

DESTRUCTION on their first release with Napalm Records:

“This show at our fave club, the Z7 in Switzerland, was a really special one in the middle of this dreadful pandemic! When we recorded it as a live stream on the 1st of January, it gave us hope back and connected us with the fans worldwide! Many supporters demanded to release it in physical form, so we had to make it happen. The setlist reflects four decades of DESTRUCTION with an almost two hour best-of setlist, which includes some really rare live tracks! It was for sure a night to remember… we hope you all enjoy it as much as we did!"
