Parody Metal aficionados NANOWAR OF STEEL, previously made waves by retiring from metal and transforming into a pop boygroup. Now they are ready to officially announce their comeback of their beloved comedy infused parody metal, releasing their new single and video for „Der Fluch des Kapt’n Iglo“ (engl. „The Curse Of Captain Findus“) today! With several millions of cross-platform streams and views racking up from all over the world, NANOWAR OF STEEL have proven themselves to be the torchbearers of modern parody metal! „Der Fluch des Käptn Iglo“ is an homage to the all beloved fried dish fishsticks by Captain Findus, accompanied by speedy accordions and pirate-y vocals, and performed entirely in German by bassist Gatto Panceri 666!

NANOWAR OF STEEL bassist/singer Gatto Panceri 666 about "Der Fluch des Käptn Iglo":

"We sailed long and hard throughout the seven seas to tell you the story of the most merciless, the most terrific, the most crispy and crunchy pirate that ever lived: Capitan Findus/Kaptn Iglo! Are you ready to fry a school of cod, grill some shrimps and roast a salmon with us on our quest for a treasure wrapped in golden breadcrumbs?"

Featuring guest appearances by renowned Italian youtubers Maurizio Merluzzo and Marco Arata AKA Mark The Hammer

Parody metal powerhouse NANOWAR OF STEEL blend comedy and vibrant Italian folklore on Italian Folk Metal!

NANOWAR OF STEEL turns to the musical roots of their homeland, bringing heavy new life to traditional Italian music on their new album Italian Folk Metal (out July 2 on Napalm Records)! Filled with references to Italian folklore, NANOWAR OF STEEL puts its own comedic metal twist on the various traditional sounds of their beautiful country. Each song on Italian Folk Metal is performed in a distinct style of Italian folk music: Napoli-based sounds of musica neomelodica clash with melodic guitar sweeps on “Scugnizzi of the Land of Fires“ and speedy accordions (prominently known from northern Italy‘s mazurka) are layered with dizzying guitar solos on “La Mazurka del Vecchio che Guarda i Cantieri“. Mixed with the band‘s eclectic, comprehensive brand of catchy, comedy-infused metal, Italian Folk Metal is a truly multi-faceted listening experience and a deep dive into the roots of Italy’s folklore! In the process of recording the new album in Rome and Milan during the summer of 2020, NANOWAR OF STEEL took the Italian-focused theme as an opportunity to gather Italy’s crème de la creme of musicianship: the album features Francesco Paoli from FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE on “L’assedio di Porto Cervo”, Alessandro Conti of LUCA TURILLI’S RHAPSODY and TRICK OR TREAT fame on “La Mazurka del Vecchio che guarda i Cantieri” and FROZEN CROWN’s Jade on “Rosario“, among others. Italian Folk Metal showcases NANOWAR OF STEEL’s musical versatility at its best!

NYC's Dope Sagittarius presents firey 'Black Empress' feat. hip hop icon Mike Ladd

'Sacred Places' album to be released on vinyl on May 14

NYC-based rock-punk-funk fusion outfit Dope Sagittarius present their new single 'Black Empress', a rocking hip-hop electo soundclash - a song for this Black Lives Matter age, where each person plays or rhymes their feelings about the endless stream of police shootings of Black people.

Dope Sagittarius is the brainchild of Harlem-based Luqman Brown, whose mother is a folk-singer-turned-teacher and father a well-known playwright. The independent spirit of art in his blood got amped up early upon seeing Funkadelic at the Apollo. By high school, he had joined his third band -- punk-funk outfit FunkFace, who first opened for 24-7 Spyzand soon Fishbone, slowly rising to prominence through hundreds of shows and three studio releases.

"When I wrote this song, back in 2016, it was because I was fed up with the killing of unarmed Black people by police that year and throughout American history. Sadly, not much has changed since then. This is my way of saying that, if we can't stop this senseless killing, the world will end in chaos and violence," says Luqman Brown.

"This is a rock tune that defies the genre thanks to the otherworldly violin playing of Mazz Swift (who’s played with everyone from Whitney Houston to Valerie June and, most recently, as string mistress for D’Angelo’s 'Vanguard Strings'), as well as the lyrical mastery of Paris-based hip-hop legend/wordsmith/rap pioneer Mike Ladd, who The Guardian described as "the king of the hip-hop concept" and who has performed with legendary London Street artist Remi Rough and visionary jazz pianist Vijay Iyer).

The accompanying video was directed by Morgan Freeman with support from cinematographer Andrew Coury. Produced by Carlyle Smith with Executive Producers Luqman Brown and LaRonda Davis, this video was filmed at YouTube Studios New York City and stars Angelana Jonesas the Goddess, Anthony Bowman as the Newscaster, along with M.C. Whistler on Vox/ Guitar, Ernest G. D'Amaso on Bass, Entrified Mcloudon Keys and Ramsey Jones on Drums.

This is the latest taster of their 'Sacred Places' album, which will be released on 12" vinyl on May 14 via their own imprint Buddhabug Records. The record also comes with a copy of the comic book "Dope Sagittarius In the Bumbaclout Strain", which was written by Luqman Brown with artwork by Tim Smith III.

"Tim has worked on many Marvel titles such as 'Iron Man' and 'Ms Marvel'. He also did a series called 'Black', where the only people in the world who had super powers were black. My comic is the first chapter, introducing you to three tuskegee airmen (Captain M.C. Whisler (that's myself), Sargeant Bambam (that's William Ramsey Jones) and Leftenant Spanish (that's Ernesto D' Amaso). They have been chosen by the great Bam Beyonder to fly a B-29 bomber plane through the multiverse to stop the evil D Incredible from destroying all life with mediocre music," says Luqman Brown.

Dope Sagittarius also recently revealed alt pop jazz single 'Define Love'. Filmed at Studio 111 Brooklyn, the video was produced by LaRondaDavis for Primordial Punk and directed by James Muscarella. This song features Micah Gaugh (The Veldt, Burnt Sugar, The Arkestra Chamber) on sax, jazz luminary Marc Cary (who’s played with Dizzy Gillespie and Meshell Ndegeocello) on piano, the incomparable Corey Glover (Living Colour) on backup vocals and finally, the Master himself, Ronny Drayton (who’s played with everybody from the Persuaders and The Chambers Brothers to Defunkt, Nona Hendryx, and 24-7 Spyz) on guitar.

While the 'Sacred Places' album was originally set to release in 2017, Luqman suffered a stroke. Everything screeched to a halt while he learned to speak and walk again, followed by heart surgery in 2019. After two years of continual recovery, he’s back and ready to present this album, as if he's never missed a beat.

This collection of tracks presents a rich tapestry of funky grooves, thoughtful synths and rocking vocals, featuring contributions by such achieved artists as Ronny Drayton, Corey Glover, Mike Ladd, Marc Cary, Roy Radics, Mazz Swift and Micah Gaugh.

"Being able to properly put this record out into the world means that I didn’t give up in the face of death. This album was supposed to be released in 2017, but I had a stroke as a result of severe complications with my heart. In 2019, I underwent heart surgery to place an LVAD in my heart to keep it pumping. The result of these health complications left me weak and without the breath to perform," says Luqman Brown.

"At the time, I thought that myself and this album would never make it out into the world—as proud as I am of it. Nevertheless, I slowly came back and now the world will get to hear what it’s like living in NYC everyday—hard times, staying alive, and taking the time to have a good brunch along the way."

'Define Love' is out now across digital stores such as Apple Music and streaming platforms at Spotify. The 'Sacred Places' LP will be released on vinyl on May 14, and can already be pre-ordered via Bandcamp and also from Buddhabug Records.

Madisyn Whajne 'Save Our Hearts' (title track from debut LP)

Summer Love Records
26 April 2021

"Her dazzling power-pop debut disc Save Our Hearts boosts anthems like 'Summer Love', 'Sweet Talk' and 'When Morning Comes'- which chime like 'Crash'-era Primitives over a Modern English, circa 'Melt With You' backbeat" ~ Paste Magazine

"A warm dream pop album that channels the beach-ready sounds of 2010 with chiming guitar arpeggios and sweet melodies that waft in like a summer breeze" Exclaim

"Indie-rock alt-pop goodness, with the First Nations songstress making her mark among such artists as The Primitives, Alvvays, Best Coast and Fazerdaze. Pretty much every song on this album could have been pitched as a standalone single" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"This would win her a comfortable place among Canada’s best music talent, Whajne’s music is upbeat, fun and infectious... pristine pop music" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

Toronto-based First Nations singer-songwriter Madisyn Whajne presents the title track from her debut record 'Save Our Hearts'. The accompanying video was produced by Bobby Bulat. Both invigorating and bittersweet, Whajne demonstrates resilience and survival in the face of pain and heartbreak.

This long-player was recorded live to tape with Montreal super-producer Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade, The Barr Brothers) and Shae Brossard (Bahamas, The Dears)at Montreal’s famed Hotel2Tango Studio. Inspired by The Go-Go’s, this album is upbeat and loaded with positive energy.

Whajne (pronounced Wayne) is a member of the Whitefish River First Nation (Manitoulin District of Ontario), who has spent most of her life searching: for her purpose, for her family, for herself. Taken from her parents as a toddler during the infamous Sixties Scoop, in which the Canadian government forcibly rehoused tens of thousands of native children, Whajne grew up without knowing her real name, to say nothing of her heritage. Her life has been shaped by a hunger for truth and understanding, a yearning that lies at the core of her artistry.

"My heart was searching for answers when I wrote this song. I had spent so many years convincing myself I was okay when I was really denying myself something I wanted so badly, and I think that is relatable. There is a sad love story being told in between the lines and by writing and pouring my heart out, I uncovered some truths... that the love I was seeking outside of myself was really the love I needed to find within myself," says Madisyn Whajne.

"The song is about letting go and filling yourself up again. Being vulnerable can be such a beautiful thing and so much can be learned if we are open. I learned to be true to myself and pursue the happiness we are all entitled to."

Whajne's debut album is invigorating and bittersweet, demonstrating resilience and survival in the face of pain and heartbreak, blending elements of such artists as Alvvays, Snail Mail, Rilo Kiley and Real Estate. Here we find straight driving guitars and semi-gritty punk rock drums, topped off with vocals radiating a sunny surfer pop vibe... a little sultry with some attitude.

Earlier, Whajne presented standout singles 'Killing Desire', 'One Shot', 'Dagger', 'Sweet Talk' and 'Summer Love'.

Whajne's band includes producer Jay McBride on bass, James Gray (of Soft Set) on guitar, and her husband Bobby Bulat (of Basia Bulat) on drums. Rarely wearing her emotions and details her life journey in explicit narrative terms, Whajne's story is written between the lines as she navigates love and trust, reunion and rejection, faith and fate.

"The video for 'Save My Heart' was filmed last fall. We hauled my air organ up to the top of Devils Glen and found the perfect spot to shoot. We only had a few hours and we made the video in record time. We kept the concept simple and I love the way it turned out. The song speaks for itself so the imagery can take over and almost be meditative. Shot and edited by Bobby, it was our first attempt at using the drone. It turned out so beautiful and cinematic though, I couldn't be more grateful," says Whajne.

'Save Our Hearts' is out now, available everywhere digitally, including Apple Music, Spotify and also directly from the artist via Bandcamp.

LYDIA CAN'T BREATHE Releases New Single "SHEEP" + Official Music Video

Lydia Can't Breathe's music can be streamed/downloaded at

https://lydiacantbreathe.com/get-connected/

Hard rock metal quartet LYDIA CAN'T BREATHE released their brand new single titled "SHEEP"to all digital outlets today! The single is a fresh take on the band's trademark sound with melodic guitars and dark tendencies. It showcases their ear candy intros, face melting guitar riffs, while still clinging to their heavy transitions and breakdowns.

"Sheep is an energetic guitar driven heavy piece with catchy clean vocal choruses. The verses are harder spoken parts with a heavy breakdown. The contrasting parts show the different styles and variation of the band’s sound. The song follows the theme of thinking on your own and being yourself regardless of how society tries to shape you" says the band.

IMPURE WILHELMINA Releases Third New Single, "Midlife Hollow"

IMPURE WILHELMINA will be releasing their seventh full-length, 'Antidote,' on May 21 via Season of Mist! The band is now sharing the brand-new track "Midlife Hollow" along with an accompanying music video, which was directed by Steven Blatter / Progressive Pictures.

The band comments: "‘Midlife Hollow' has always been one of our favourite tracks from 'Antidpte.' Musically speaking, it is rather atypical in its construction while remaining perfectly coherent with the band's universe. In an atmosphere both tense and melancholic, the song speaks of the loss of illusions, the extinction of the inner fire, the rise of bitterness, the settling into solitude and the awareness of the brevity of existence. We are confronted with an unalterable destiny that holds us in its iron hand, as evoked by the telluric finale of the track."

'Antidote' is due on May 21 and can be pre-ordered in various formats HERE.

Music heals the soul, as it always has. "Antidote" evokes this simple idea, illustrating the cathartic aspect of IMPURE WILHELMINA's 7th full length. It acts as a remedy against the darker sides of the human mind.

For 25 years, IMPURE WILHELMINA has been creating a singular music on the borders of rock and metal. The Geneva quartet has never been afraid to reinvent itself and to push back the stylistic barriers, without ever losing its strong identity. Intensity, melody, power and melancholy are the key words that guide the band's discography, shaping record after record a subtle blend of metal, post-hardcore, new wave and indie rock sounds.

IMPURE WILHELMINA has experienced many line-up changes over the years around Michael Schindl, singer-guitarist, main composer and lyricist. Founded in 1996, the group quickly built a reputation in the local, then Swiss and European independent scenes.

IMPURE WILHELMINA has regularly collaborated with sound engineers and producers Serge Morattel (I Can't Believe I Was Born In July - 2001, L'Amour, La Mort, L'Enfance Perdue - 2004, Prayers And Arsons - 2008) and Raphaël Bovey (Black Honey - 2014, Radiation - 2017). These five albums illustrate the constant musical evolution of the band, which from a very dark and metal base gradually incorporates more rock elements. The clear vocals occupy an increasingly important place in the compositions, reinforcing the intensity and melodic depth.

In 2015, thanks to the great response to Black Honey, IMPURE WILHELMINA signed with the reference metal label Season of Mist, which published ‘Radiation’ two years later in 2017. Skilfully navigating between melodies and dissonances, always at the service of raw emotion, this sixth album was unanimously acclaimed by the press and the public, opening the doors to wider recognition.

After intensely touring all over Europe to promote ‘Radiation’, the band received great reward by being one of the four recipients of the 2019 grants for contemporary music awarded by the City of Geneva. This support has allowed Impure Wilhelmina to approach their new album with confidence and the will to develop their sound and get out of their comfort zone. The band put a lot of efforts in the elaboration and production of its new songs, notably by calling on Yvan Bing, producer and sound engineer, to accompany the four musicians throughout the creation process of the album. This successful collaboration began in the summer of 2019 and continued for over a year, giving rise to IMPURE WILHELMINA's seventh album, ‘Antidote’.

In the context of the pandemic that marked part of the recording of ‘Antidote’ and its long completion, this title also resonates in a very particular way. Welcome to this journey into uncharted musical lands.

SOJOURNER to Unveil Special LP, Perennial, Featuring New Members on June 4, 2021

Pre-Order Starts NOW!

Newly Signed with Napalm Events!

Melancholic black metal symbiosis SOJOURNER paves the way for another undeniably impressive next chapter with their outstanding new offering, the mini-EP Perennial, to be released digitally and as a strictly limited ivory vinyl edition on June 4, 2021 via Napalm Records.

Today, the maestros of levitating bleakness have unveiled a captivating piece of art, the bewitching hymn “Perennial”, featuring new vocalist Lucia Amelia Emmanueli for the first time. A visually inspiring music video captures the undeniably breathtaking beauty of untouched nature while SOJOURNER interweave angelic vocals and brutal growls, carried by a sonic layer of atmospheric black metal spliced with romantic folk influences.

Vocalist Emilio says: about “Perennial”:

"With wanting to revisit the old style of SOJOURNER I decided to tap into our roots on a lyrical level. 'Perennial' very much follows the thread of nature and it’s loss at our very own hands. This theme was prevalent in several songs on our first album so it made sense to revisit that. The vocals were meticulously worked on with Lucia to make sure that every single word worked in its tone and placement. Later, with Tom joining in on backing vocals at the very end, we truly felt happy with the end result. We are super excited about our future with our two new awesome members!"

Dive into the beauty of nature and watch the dreamlike video for “Perennial”

Like no other, SOJOURNER captivates the listener by combining harsh black metal influences and instrumental folk interludes with atmospheric soundscapes, while painting a picture of unexplored nature alongside an endless journey towards the horizon.

Songwriter and musician Mike Lamb says:

"When I approached the songwriting for this mini EP I wanted to do something special that encompassed both where we began and where we are today, because while we've grown and changed over the last 6 years we still have the same passion and vision for the band that brought us together initially. I approached both the songwriting and recording for this EP in the same way that I did on Empires of Ash and The Shadowed Road, even down to recording all of the instruments back in New Zealand again for the first time since we began, in the same room where I wrote 'Heritage of the Natural Realm' in 2015.

It also seemed like a fitting time to do something that sat somewhere between a reinterpretation of 'Heritage...' and a sequel of sorts for the second EP track, 'Relics of the Natural Realm', bringing our 2015 beginnings full circle back to where we are now and the band that we've evolved into in 2021. This is reflected in the cover art, again by our good friend Jordan Grimmer who did the original Empires of Ash cover, showing the meeting of SOJOURNER both past and present. We couldn't be happier with our incredibly talented new members, both of who turned in absolutely beautiful vocal performances, and we're so excited about the bright future ahead for the band."

Pre-Order Perennial NOW

SOJOURNER enter a new chapter of breathtaking atmospheric black metal

“Perennial” comes along with the stunning hymn “Relics of the Natural Realm”, a sequel to the band’s very first song "Heritage of the Natural Realm", capturing the identity of wilderness transferred into beautiful melodies and enchanting vocals.

Throughout their meaningful lyricism, erupting with Emilio Crespo’s intense growls while being carried on via the ethereal vocals of new vocalist Lucia Amelia Emmanueli, SOJOURNER reaches the innermost soul, leaving a long lasting impact. With color of their own and unique musical identity, and every note of this exceptional progression created by songwriting genius Mike Lamb, the six-piece is ready to write another chapter in their marvelous book of atmospheric black metal tales.

Perennial will be available in the following formats:

-1 LP Ivory Vinyl (strictly limited to 300 copies worldwide)

-Digital Single

[1 LP Ivory Vinyl (strictly limited to 300 copies worldwide)]

SEVEN SPIRES RELEASE NEW SINGLE

LISTEN TO 'THE CURSED MUSE' NOW

NEW STUDIO ALBUM OUT THIS FALL

Seven Spires have released a brand new single, 'The Cursed Muse' today. The song sees the band seamlessly blending their love of the heavy, symphonic, and black metal genres into a mesmerizing mix that is simultaneously furious and catchy.

"'The Cursed Muse' is the reintroduction of our exhausted hero from the previous two albums. Haunted by demons of the past, this sea-captain-turned-psychopomp contemplates their future: a lonesome eternity riddled with regret, resentment, and the crushing belief that they do not deserve happiness," says the band.

The single serves as an appetizer for the forthcoming epic new studio album from the band, due this fall on Frontiers Music Srl. More details on that forthcoming in the weeks ahead.

Seven Spires is an American metal quartet specializing in melancholic tales and tenebrous grandeur. Part bittersweet melodic metal anthems, part apocalyptic melodic death and black metal, and part Romantic Classical poets, they are storytellers who draw from across the traditional spectrum of metal and beyond to weave tragedies of demons, death, love, and the peculiarities of human condition. The band met while studying at the world renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, so we need not spend much time going on about their musical capabilities, but needless to say, the band’s musicianship is in keeping with the metal tradition of tireless work to be the best at your craft.

The band’s sophomore album, “Emerald Seas", released in February 2020, was a highly emotional, dark, and theatrical listening experience. The band, as with their debut, collaborated with Sascha Paeth (Avantasia, Kamelot, Epica, etc), who mixed and mastered the album. Watch music videos from the album at the links below.

Night Crowned Unleashes Album Details and Haunting Music Video!; "Hädanfärd" to be Released July 9th on Noble Demon

Blackened death metal force Night Crowned announced the release of their highly anticipated sophomore studio album. Hädanfärd will be coming out on digipak CD, vinyl, digital and in limited vinyl / CD merch bundles on July 9th via Noble Demon.

Hailed by critics and fans alike as one of the best releases of the year, Night Crowned took the heavy scene by storm with their debut studio album, Impius Viam (2020, Noble Demon). Consisting of former and current members of legendary acts such as Dark FuneralNightrage and Cipher System and with a musical vision as clear as it is haunting and disturbing, the band created with their latest album an imposing work full of rage, melancholy and pure destruction, offering a true reawakening of the sounds dormant from the most influential acts and masterpieces of the Scandinavian ‘90s.

Without showing any signs of slowing down, and even while the current release was being carried across the globe, the band started working on their highly anticipated follow-up record, titled Hädanfärd, set for release on July 9th 2021, via German label Noble Demon. Thematically inspired by a story by singer K. Romlin, which deals with encounters with death, a far-reaching concept for the soon-to-be-released record was developed during the band's intense demo process. Carried with depth through 9 atmospheric tracks and supported in a vivid way by individual, written down interpretations and explanations of K. Romlin, Hädanfärd is an infernal, bleak monolith of an album, one that will most likely see Night Crowned step out as one of Sweden's best kept blackened death metal secrets.

"What we made is not just an album, it is a story. A story that has no beginning, nor end. A story that is as old as time itself. This is a story about life given & life taken, this is the tale when I meet death" Vocalist K. Romlin states.

In support of the upcoming album, today Night Crowned unleashed a brand new and haunting video clip for the track "Nattkrönt", streaming here:

"Have you ever sat completely still in a forest at night & listened to all the sounds or just the eerie silence? This is our celebration our dedication to the night it self. A Melodic, fast, heavy, catchy and aggressive black/death metal song." the band comments.

Initially planned as a double album (in English, as well as in Swedish), Hädanfärd will be coming out in Swedish language only, in order to release the band's most authentic, as well as honest, work to date.

Hädanfärd drops July 9th via Noble Demon and is now available for pre-order HERE

Limited merch bundles with the cover art shirt in various sizes together with either the new digipak of Hädanfärd or black vinyl, orange or ghost silver marble color, are available HERE

BLACK WAIL Release New EP - 'Born on Fire' Featuring the Single "See Conspiracy"

New Jersey rock outfit BLACK WAIL are back with their first new studio record in more than three years. The quintet is proud to release the 'Born on Fire' EP, which is out today (4/23) via Rhyme & Reason. 'Born on Fire' is the band's fourth studio effort since forming in 2014, and is preceded by their late-2017 offering 'Chromium Homes'.

BLACK WAIL - 'Born on Fire' LISTEN: https://orcd.co/bornonfire

Speaking on the release, lead vocalist and guitarist Mike Tarlazzi says, “I’m really stoked to see these songs go out into the world!” adding, “This is the first of 2 new EPs we have coming out in 2021. We can’t wait to start playing shows again!“

Keyboardist Bram Teitelman offers more details about the release of the new EP, stating 'Born on Fire’ was actually ready to be released before the pandemic, but who wants to put out music during an international nightmare? Now that there’s a light at the end of the COVID tunnel, what better time to listen to songs about conspiracy theory believers and narcissistic leaders on the wrong side of history?!"

While New Jersey quintet Black Wail’s latest EP, 'Born on Fire' (Rhyme & Reason), isn’t a concept record, there are some threads running between its songs that you’d be forgiven for thinking were a direct response to the past year. The lead single, “See Conspiracy” was written before the Qanon movement reached mass acceptance, and long before its believers wound up in Congress. Singer/guitarist Michael Tarlazzi points back to the election of our last President as the genesis. “When he got elected, I was dumbfounded that that could even possibly happen,” he says. “I thought it was a joke, because I figured everyone knew that the guy was a clown. Then he’s spouting all these theories about ‘fake news’ and that there’s a liberal plot to get everybody. Meanwhile, there are real-life events happening, like school shootings with assault rifles that kids easily got because they’re so easily available in America and any attempt at regulation becomes ‘they’re taking our guns away.'”

Black Wail formed in Jersey City in early 2014 when Tarlazzi, then best known as a drummer or guitarist, decided to front his own band to draw on his influences of metal, punk, psych, stoner, and classic rock; playing guitar as well as handling vocals for the first time. After recruiting Susan Lutin on bass and Bram Teitelman on keys, the lineup solidified with the addition of guitarist Ed Charreun and drummer Felipe Torres, who also play in the sludge/noise trio Twin God. Born on Fire, the quintet’s fourth EP, follows 2017’s Chromium Homes, and was recorded by Grammy-winning producer John Seymour (Bouncing Souls), who co-produced the EP with the band.

WITHERED and Artist Paul Romano Reveal Behind-The-Scenes Cover Artwork Video

Artist Paul Romano (MASTODON, HATE ETERNAL, etc.) has partnered with Heaviest of Art to give a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the unique album art for WITHERED's upcoming album, 'Verloren!' Both Romano and WITHERED vocalist/guitarist Mike Thompson give in-depth interviews about the concept, working together, and more in this detailed article, which is accompanied by an exclusive video clip and photos! Check it out at THIS LOCATION.

WITHERED has also recently released the first track from the record along with a disturbing music video! "By Tooth in Tongue" can be found HERE.

'Verloren' is due on June 25 via Season of Mist Underground Activists! The album can be pre-ordered HERE.

From its inception, WITHERED has been an outlier, a perplexing charge of extremity which the metal scene has never been able to put its finger on.

“We want to compound new elements into every album,” posits guitarist/vocalist Mike Thompson, “and we’re definitely a band for metal nerds. Our audience seems to be the old-schoolers who are absorbed by this stuff every day and jaded folks of a certain age. Industry types and peers tend to get it, but that’s about it.”

Thompson’s self deprecating assessment of his creative output might be part gentlemanly humility talking or a harshly realistic take on WITHERED’s cult status, or somewhere in between, but with an impressive body of work fanned out over the course of 18 years and five albums which have weathered as many trends, the Atlanta quartet continues to confound and refuses to compromise. New album, Verloren is the band’s most daring and iconoclastic work yet, one that spits in the eye of complacency and exists as a contrarian masterstroke.

Originally formed by Thompson and ex-guitarist/vocalist Chris Freeman in 2003 following a spell in local grind institution Social Infestation (alongside Mastodon’s Troy Sanders), WITHERED’s initial goal was to re-write black, doom and death metal modes and mores. To that end, the band has achieved that goal as their sound and aesthetic refuses to clearly state which subgenre they call home. Over the course of its history, WITHERED has generated more questions than answers about who they are and what they do. They’ve toured with the varied likes of Mastodon, High on Fire, Dismember, Grave, Vital Remains, Possessed, Watain, Mayhem, 1349, Krallice, Skeletonwitch and Danzig. Their live show provides an air of never-know-what-you’re-gonna-get mystery. See them on one occasion and it’s a DIY kick in the gut with stripped down, rehearsal room bareness appropriately complementing the lunacy. The next time they get in the van they’ll do so accompanied by rigged up columns of light cloaking the stage in bloody reds and searing whites. And with Verloren, the band’s forthcoming fifth album, Thompson and his band mates – drummer Beau Brandon, bassist Rafay Nabeel and fellow guitarist/vocalist Dan Caycedo – continue to nudge both thematic and sonic goalposts by providing relatable food for thought while retaining the adversarial fire that has powered the engine since the start.

“There’s a philosophical introspective approach to the subject matter that informs our writing style. We’re trying to create an atmosphere that complements the themes and that’s something we’re trying to circle back around to on Verloren.”

WITHERED’s first album, 2005’s Memento Mori, generally speaking, tackled the subject of mortality and the grieving process that follows significant loss, trauma and tragedy. Album number two, 2008’s Folie Circulaire was, as Thompson describes, “more existentialist, nihilistic and Nietzsche-ian” while 2010’s Dualities was an exploration of Jungian psychology and the shadow self. As alluded to in the title, 2016’s Grief Relic started into the U-turn back towards the exploration of the role and impact of grief as the men of WITHERED themselves entered that stage of life in which older family members, friends and childhood heroes were passing away, expectedly and otherwise. Five years on, Verloren rounds out the turn with a sinister sound and an area of study more akin to a deep therapy/counseling session instead of the usual gore and lore that often emboldens extreme music.

“Rafay wanted to use the theme of ‘missing’,” explains Thompson, “which was broad and abstract, so I dialed it down to be more about this outlook I’ve developed over the years about how each of us have a ‘Love Well.’ Every bit of love you get from your parents, your upbringing and your learning how to receive and experience love in relationships and through experiences contributes to the well. Your traumas counterbalance that and take away from it, especially when foundational core elements take a hit, like the untimely loss of a parent. That’s one of life’s unique puzzle pieces and when that piece is removed it’s never going to be replaced.

“We’re equipped with a certain capacity – our wells are filled to a certain level – and when you start getting smacked with traumas, whatever you have in that well - your defense mechanisms - can get worn down pretty quickly, especially for someone who has never really known love because of a broken home, difficult relationships or whatever. Each one of us in WITHERED carry unique traumas that we’ve focused this new record on. For me, most of my significant losses are from older wounds that I’ve dealt with through WITHERED from the very beginning, but with this being the first album with Dan and Rafay, it’s like a new exercise for them to really focus on the things they’ve been carrying around.”

Verloren translates to “missing” from German and relates not just to the friends, family and pieces of the member’s lives and hearts that have, and will go, missing as the time ticks on unfettered, but also, in the face of the global pandemic, just how much the activity of being in a band has been missed by everyone who took the write/record/tour cycle for granted. Verloren demonstrates a topical uniqueness; one that discusses the stuff everyone from the steeliest of black metal cape wearers to the gore-obsessed death metal crushers and everyone playing in a band or not has had to - or will have to - confront at some point. By leveling the elitist playing field so often found in extreme metal underground attitudes, Verloren offers a more holistic experience, elevating WITHERED by being unafraid to discuss topics that fly in the face of what most would connect to the sounds they make.

“About two years before I started WITHERED,” Thompson recalls, “I went through a series of traumas where I was forced to take stock of and define my foundational ‘puzzle pieces’ that could be taken away and what the trauma and grief is going to look like when I lose close family and/or friends I truly care about. Ironically, one I didn’t face until recently was WITHERED. No one ever thought that not being able to play shows or tour because of a pandemic was even feasible. I processed the idea of losing WITHERED and playing music and touring and everything else around the time of Grief Relic when two guys quit the band and I lost a lot of steam and inspiration. Luckily, Beau was there to kick my ass and shake me out of it. When it comes to this album, there was an initial suffering of anxiety because of the uncertainty in the world and the fear of losing this album because we put a lot into it, are super proud of it and it is the best WITHERED album yet. It’s important for my inspiration and motivation to go forward. It takes so much effort for us to create a record, the thought of it for it to all be for naught or potentially be wasted just destroys me.

“Surprisingly, we haven’t had a lot of push back on these themes, though I would love to take on that conflict!” he laughs. “For most people, metal is purely aesthetic, a grandstanding ‘f-you!’ to society and an adolescent rebellion kind of thing. But at the same time, we do get positive feedback from the people who have looked a bit deeper and done some research. We just want to be honest. We used to make the joke when we go out on tour, especially in the early days when deathcore was all the rage and we’d be on these weird package bills, that ‘Hey, we’re WITHERED and we’re here to bum you out.’ We’re not a party band or a shock band so you don’t get the fun aspect from us when going to a show. I’ve always been frustrated that we’ve never been able to communicate our super-realism and the different perspectives of life. If I want to sing about how much gratitude I have for my mother in a roundabout way, then whatever, we’ll do it!”

As WITHERED enters its third decade, they’ve drawn a more insular and conclusive line in the sand. The band has forged further forward with the process of eschewing typicality, including not utilizing any of the usual producer suspects to help sculpt Verloren. Instead, they flew the flag of independence by again going down the route of self-production with Thompson himself taking the bull by its horns.

“We get a little bit more deliberate every time around and starting with Grief Relic we decided not to hire anyone to help produce and filter it through a particular lens. We started self-producing and I kind of took the reins on that last time and more so this time and also when it came to selecting who was going to engineer [Raheen Amlani at Orange Peel Recordings], then mix [Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studios] and master it [Jarrett Pritchard]. The trick is to find someone who loves Times of Grace as much as they love Clandestine and His Hero is Gone, Napalm Death and all the way out to later Enslaved and can balance all those things. If it’s truly honest and truly communicating the intention of a song, then it’ll be powerful, heavy and generate emotion.”

Verloren also revisits WITHERED’s traditional methodological step of sitting down and looking at the present state of metal before consciously lashing out against what’s taking up most of the broader public’s attention.

“We’re constantly looking for something new to do. We love genre bending and putting D-beats next to funereal riffs next to black metal blasts and heavy doom riffs and figuring out how to make it all work and make sense with whatever vibe we’re trying to nail down. For this one, I wanted to lean back into the funereal doom world. I got burnt out when doom – especially southern doom, being a southern band - was the word of the day around the time of our first two records. We basically ran in the other direction and got away from doing any full-on doom parts for a while. I wanted to come back around to that, so we went back to bigger stuff like My Dying Bride for the couple of eight minute epics on the album [album opener “By Tooth in Tongue” and closer “From Ashen Shores”]. Also, for the first time in my life and against my better judgment, I decided to write clean vocals and I’m singing on two songs. They’re kind of buried in the mix a little bit because I’m still self-conscious about them, but they were the only things that made sense for the parts we wrote. I tried to fight it, but nothing extreme was accomplishing the goal. On top of that, we go the other way where three of the songs have some super crusty and grind elements. Part of why I asked Dan to join the band was because I knew he would get the sludgy, crusty side of things and help me cultivate that better in WITHERED. On the album, ‘The Predation,’ ‘Dissolve’ and ‘Casting in Wait’ are his. Those would be the twists on this album because we’re always trying to write what we think is missing and what we want to hear in heavy music after sitting down and looking at the landscape of what’s out there.”

And despite being deliberate oppositional in the subject matter they choose to explore and express, how much of their hearts and souls they choose to strip bare for fickle crowds and grind against whatever current musical grain the rest are cruising along, the determination, seriousness and importance of WITHERED in each member’s lives hasn’t ebbed. In fact, it’s only been magnified with time and circumstance. Having been forced into a year off from normal band life has made it clear how vital WITHERED is for everything from creative expression, social networking, wanderlust, overall personal sanity and moving forward.

“Personally, I’m very, very fortunate with regards to my family and others being supportive and taking what I do seriously. Looking back, I could be really selfish and headstrong about music. My family got so used to it that they would volunteer to schedule dinners and family events around rehearsals and practice because they were able to glean how important this was to me and how seriously I took it. Even moving out into the real world with the professional realm of things and the jobs that we have had in order to keep this going, I’d say it’s taken more seriously now than ever. We’re constantly challenging ourselves to progress and carve our own path. WITHERED is a permanent part of my life, it’s what I expect to be there. I’ve built so much on it and I’ve somehow been able to weave it into my life to where it’s a defining part of me as well. This isn’t rock star fantasy camp, although the other weekend I was bored, missing travelling and sitting around so I took the band van out and just drove out for three hours, turned around and came home!”

DREAMERS CRIME Releases New Single "DREAMING" + Official Music Video

Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Dreamers Crime has been on a crazy ride since they formed. By blending metal and rock sounds they create their own version of hard rock with explosive, anthem tracks. The band released their new single titled "Dreaming"to all digital outlets via The FUEL Music today! In addition, they premiered their official music video on BraveWords.com.

Dreamers Crime is a four piece outfit ready to leave their own mark on the music stage. Co-founders Peter Repousis (lead vocalist) and Simon Kapsis (guitarist), together with Adam Plimmer (bassist) and Felipe Martelo (drummer), are set to expose their heavy rock and metal sound consisting of crunching riffs, ambient leads and vocal hooks to the rest of the world.

The band wrote and released their first EP What is Real in 2014, which was followed by tours within Australia and time spent writing new material over the next years to come.

Since 2018, resting has not been an option for Dreamers Crime as they completed two South East Asian tours including countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. They have also completed shows around Australia and shared the stage with American rock band Trapt and Portugal’s very own Hybrid Theory.

The band has spent most of the last few years in the studio writing and recording their upcoming album Here We Are. Produced and recorded by Australian award winners Dave Petrovic and Stevie Knight from Electric Sun Studios the band released the single “Silence” in January of 2021 and is following it up with their new single “Dreaming”which is now available.

Their music can be best described as "Future Goth," a term they coined in order to explain the fusion of alternative heavy guitar riffs, powerfully haunting vocals, subconscious provoking lyrics, electronic drums, and catchy pop melodies. The band has released a new song titled "SEEK & HIDE" to all digital outlets along with an accompanying music video.

The band will be playing Rock Fest 2021 on Wednesday July 14, 2021 alongside Queensryche, Slaughter and more.

Everything is energy, a cycle. The cycle repeats until you get it right and then a new one begins. A perpetual spiral of you. As we embark on releasing our 3rd body of work, Portals, on my (Adi’s) 33rd year of life on this earth, we have expanded as a band. We welcome our 3rd member, Justin Perez on the drums. The message is the same, told with new wisdom and perspective, maturation and acceptance. There was a franticness in our previous work, an urgency to forewarn of a future not yet understood. Now we all find ourselves in a state of no security for the whole world but instead of approaching it in the old patterns of franticness, there is an unshaken stillness.

We aren’t saints. We aren’t prophets. We are simply emphatic people with an ear to the whispers of the future. When the waves of messages come, we put it into songs and let the spirits guide us. We stand for strength, grounding, magic, becoming, expansion; opening the doors to your own portals.

We are Modern Mimes.

OBSIDIAN KINGDOM Shares Roadburn Performance Clip for Song "Womb of Wire"

After a successful premiere at Roadburn Redux, OBSIDIAN KINGDOM has shared a live rendition of their track "Womb of Wire," shot during their headlining performance at Barcelonian AMFest last December with guest appearance from their former member Irene Talló.

The band comments: “'MEAT MACHINE' didn’t always sound like you hear it today. Irene’s departure from the band before the album came out meant that we had to re-write a lot of finished songs in a rush if we ever wanted to play them again in front of a live audience. Nevertheless, last December we had the privilege to have her onstage with us, so now you have the chance to enjoy 'Womb of Wire' just like it was meant to be before we parted ways. This song was actually her idea from the start, so it is only fair that you hear it from her lips.”

Last fall, OBSIDIAN KINGDOM were awarded the "Best International Music Video" for "MEAT STAR" via the Santiago Horror Film Festival 2020! "MEAT STAR" is taken from the band's latest full-length, 'MEAT MACHINE,' which is out NOW! The award-winning video can be seen at THIS LOCATION.

'MEAT MACHINE' is a harsh sonic journey, abject and stentorian like a love letter from a school shooter. The perverse album is a rough drop into a nightmarish world of forbidden desires, frustrated sexual urges and the dark realms of the subconscious mind.

The album can be streamed/purchased/downloaded HERE.

Style: Experimental Rock / Post-Metal

RIYL: Scott Walker, Ulver, Deftones, Death Grips, Daughters, Nine Inch Nails, Faith No More

“Proof that some of the best music does indeed elude easy classification" - POPMATTERS

OBSIDIAN KINGDOM is devoted to exploring the boundaries of rock music. The Barcelonan band defies classification to this very day, drawing equally on progressive rock, post-metal, alternative and electronic music. However hard to pigeonhole, it remains consistent with delivering exciting artistry that never fails to surprise its audience.

Forever on a restless journey to find its true identity, the quintet has been dubbed “the masters of every genre” by Metal Injection. Featuring a heavy and intense sound with plenty of contrast, its main features are the ability to portray a wide range of emotions through the use of multiple sonic resources, a deep interest in aesthetics and the sombre quality of the lyrical topics.

‘MEAT MACHINE’ is an exercise in self-discovery, through a head-first plunge into the anxiety derived from sexual frustration, the absurd of reality and the inherent cruelty of a mechanized world. It is a demanding album that reads as an emotional roller-coaster, featuring an abrasive and overwhelming sound that draws equally from noise and art rock, post metal and late 90s alternative music.

- METAL HAMMER (GER) -

"Paint The Sky With Blood is an amazing disc [...] Buy this record when it comes out. It’s well worth the money to add to any worthwhile metal collection.”

- NEW NOISE MAGAZINE (USA) -

“... a beautiful swan song of a gifted guitarist and songwriter, who will be missed. Rest in peace!”

“... it felt like the Finnish wildchild [...] had woven himself so integrally into the fabric of modern metal that he could never truly go away.”

- KERRANG (UK) -

“BODOM AFTER MIDNIGHT say hello and goodbye with three spectacular songs [...] very special, sometimes controversial, always inspiring.”

- RAFA BASA ES -

"This three-track EP makes clear that BAM would have hardened into a new and devastating Multiple Independent Reentry Vehicle for Laiho’s songwriting.”

- DECIBEL MAGAZINE (USA) -

Today was meant to celebrate a vigorous manifestation of a brand new metal era and now pays tribute to an incomparable guitarist, artist and visionary of his time. Today, BODOM AFTER MIDNIGHT releases their highly-anticipated three-track EP, Paint the Sky with Blood, via Napalm Records.

The EP that was recorded back in Finland, was intended to be followed by a full-length album later in the year - now embodies a whole new meaning and remains as the only work by BODOM AFTER MIDNIGHT. Paint the Sky with Blood is undeniable evidence of the late Alexi Laiho's artistic spirit and his extraordinary musical skills in synthesis with his absolutely talented bandmates Daniel Freyberg, Waltteri Väyrynen, Mitja Toivonen and live keyboardist Vili Itäpelto. Not only do the band's final recordings see the light today, but the matching visualizer for "Payback’s A Bitch" is also out now via Napalm Records.

"Like ourselves, Alexi was beyond stoked about these songs and anxious to get these out, so we are happy that we can fulfill his wish. Needless to say, we are honored and proud to be a part of his very last creative work and to unleash it the way he wanted it. It’s time to let the beast out of the cage one more time as a celebration of Alexi’s music, legacy and the man himself."

- BODOM AFTER MIDNIGHT

Heavy title track “Paint the Sky with Blood” sets the stage for the 14 minute EP of the same name and is strikingly reminiscent of early-CHILDREN OF BODOM elements, while also adding exciting modern influences into the fold. Second stunner “Payback’s A Bitch” and its massive riffing are on a quest for retribution, delivering a hard-hitting, second to none offense. The interplay of Alexi Laiho, guitarist Daniel Freyberg, drummer Waltteri Väyrynen (Paradise Lost), bassist Mitja Toivonen (ex-Santa Cruz) and live keyboardist Vili Itäpelto is not only a testament to the band's extraordinary musical ability, but also showcases their skill in deftly incorporating a variety of genre influences.

Closing cover track “Where Dead Angels Lie” is an absolute triumph – originally performed by Swedish extreme metal formation Dissection, the track shines as a timeless classic with a new edge. Eerie riffs and vocals alternating between menacing murmurs and characteristic guttural, distorted vocals stay faithful to the original while branding this version with an undeniable BODOM AFTER MIDNIGHT punch.

FROM SORROW TO SERENITY Share New Single "Tell All"

New EP 'Trifecta' Out TODAY

Scottish FROM SORROW TO SERENITY share their new single "Tell All", along with a music video. It's the third and final single taken from their EP, "Trifecta", which is available now via Long Branch Records.

"This is a song for everyone who has been battling through lockdown, and our request to every one of you - embrace who you truly are, and take it to the world," says guitarist Steven Jones. He adds:

"We all have such limited time together on this planet, so be you, take control of your own life and live for you - because no one else is going to. Your time has come. 'Tell All' is our call-to-arms anthem. A song that never lets up, and piles on the energy. We're particularly excited to play this one live! Marking the third and final piece of the 'Trifecta', Tell All relieves you of the doom-and-gloom tones of Shadows and Red Mist, instead shining a light at the end of the tunnel, and reminding us to be defiant of the darker thoughts and 'voice' in our heads. We must do our utmost to find hope in every place that we can, and Tell All is about finding that place within yourself and embracing it. "

Tracklist:

1 Shadows

2 Red Mist

3 Tell All

Guitarist Steven Jones about 'Trifecta':

"Our intention with Trifecta was to create a series of songs that can be enjoyed both individually, and together in one combined experience.

Coming into the writing process, we knew that we wanted to explore new avenues, both musically and with the lyrical themes. Something we felt strongly about was writing lyrics from an introspective position this time and discussing our own personal, and interpersonal, struggles as people - topics we had only just begun to touch on in our latest album 'Reclaim'. We felt with our lyrical content in past, we have had a tendency to almost hold our listeners at arm's length - discussing the bigger picture, and issues we all face, but never really letting on to who we are as people. With 'Trifecta', we knew it was time to lift the veil and express exactly who we are, to discuss our own experiences in life, and take our listeners deeper.

As with all stories, Trifecta has a beginning and an end. The EP brings 'Shadows', 'Red Mist' and 'Tell All' together in a connected, 3-parter, taking you from paranoia and defeat, all the way to and acceptance and redemption.

'Shadows' wastes no time in bringing you into our world, discussing topics of PTSD, depressive and suicidal thoughts, and giving in to defeat. 'Red Mist' brings rage to the forefront, facing that you have become your own worst enemy - and the pain and regret of losing control. 'Tell All' is the relief at the end of our struggle. Acceptance is the first step in finding peace, and we encourage you to embrace who you are and take it out into to the world, no compromise. You are good enough. You are unlike any other. Take control and live life for you - because no one else is going to.

Musically, we have found who we are and where we are at as a group, but we always want to push the envelope and strive for more. Bigger sounds. More memorable hooks. Better songs. This drive, in particular, led to much more extensive use of synth and orchestral elements, particularly in 'Red Mist' which features a full orchestral accompaniment throughout its duration, and in 'Tell All' which features the most 'clean' vocals in any FSTS song yet.

Our special thanks goes to Josh Clark for creating the 3 artworks which accompany each song, Craig Gowans at 12-inch media for his work on the EP artwork and single covers, Florian Kreutzfeldt for nurturing our creativity and steering us in the right direction, Manuel at Long Branch Records for his support in our decision to release this EP before the next album, Aurore Angelique for her merch design work, Ermin Hamidovic for mastering the EP, and to our family, friends, and followers for supporting what we do. In a time when so much of our life is lived in constraint, we give you music that's free of any."

EMPTINESS Announces Digital Concert Event

"Emptiness is an old man, isolated for too long, bitter, he's changing again."

Belgian dark metal outfit EMPTINESS have teamed up with Lebotanique for a very special digital livestream. The stream will take place on April 29 @ 1:00 P.M. EDT. The event is completely free for all to watch on Facebook HERE. Tickets can be purchased here HERE.

EMPTINESS comments on the stream: "We have partnered with Lebotanique to offer you a deep introspective live experience. This adaptation brings a new light in the tunnel they lured us in with our new album 'Vide'"

'Vide' is out now and is completely produced by vocalist/bass player Jérémie Bézier, who is trying to create something authentic and avoid all external energies. The tracking mostly happened during the Belgian lockdown, in his apartment and rooftop 7th floor in Brussels.

Stream, download, and purchase 'Vide' HERE.

mail-4.jpeg

The shape-shifting Belgian quartet EMPTINESS returns with 'Vide,' their first new album in four years. 'Vide' (the French word for empty) sees the band veer away from the mechanical foreboding of 2017's 'Not For Music' into a more introspective and deconstructed direction. It unfolds like a fever dream, with each track falling into hazy rhythmic patterns and featuring haunting vocals that hang in the ether.

Founded in Europe's center of gravity, Brussels (BE), in the year 1998, EMPTINESS embarked on their musical journey with a burning vision to delve deep into darkness and horror. While the band was taking musical inspiration from different extreme styles such as black and death metal, the Belgians approached the music in an open minded manner of continuous experimentation.

Following their inception, EMPTINESS first released the two demos 'Eternal Rising' (2000) and 'Necrorgy' (2002) that received a remarkable welcome in the underground. Yet with each new album, 'Guilty to Exist' (2004), 'Oblivion' (2007), 'Error' (2012), and 'Nothing but the Whole' (2014), the Belgians were also increasingly leaving a mark in mainstream music press.

EMPTINESS scored the devil's luck and won the perfect production set-up to create new sinister soundscapes during the recordings of 'Not For Music' in 2017. After recording in their own Blackout Studio, the Belgians received an invitation to further enhance the production of 'Not for Music' by Jeordie White aka Twiggy Ramirez (MARILYN MANSON, A PERFECT CIRCLE, NINE INCH NAILS). The final mix and mastering was done by Sean Beavan (GUNS N' ROSES, NIN, SLAYER).

'Vide' (2021) was meant as a claustrophobic album, a journey of an infinite mind stuck into a world too small. Questioning the essence of once perceptions, this album invites you to rethink your grasp of reality. To that end, it was important for EMPTINESS to be isolated during its experimentations. Recordings would take place sometimes in confined spaces like apartments or a cabin in the woods, and sometimes on a city roof allowing to contemplate a strange human world from above. Involvement was strictly limited to the band members who took care of all audio production and visuals work. The pandemic and lockdown happened while recording was in progress; a materialization of the imaginary world being created. The album either by coincidence or not, is in tune with our dissonant times.

HEAVY METAL VETERAN DAVE STARR OPENS UP ABOUT HIS ONGOING BATTLE WITH PARKINSON’S DISEASE

Image 4-23-21 at 5.20 PM.jpg

Guitarist/bassist Dave Starr’s allegiance to metal can be traced through several respected groups, including VICIOUS RUMORS and the band's first 5 albums (Soldiers Of The Night, Digital Dictator, Vicious Rumors, Welcome To The Ball and Plug In And Hang On: Live In Tokyo), as well as 2006's Warball, CHASTAIN and the 2004 album In An Outrage, plus WILDESTARR, which featured Dave and his wife, vocalist London Wilde, and 3 albums (Arrival, A Tell Tale Heart, Beyond The Rain).

Dave was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (in the early stages), and gave an exclusive interview to KNAC.com, in which he explained how it was detected, the medication he needs to take, how his family is coping with it, how he overcame a recent house fire, and future musical projects.

The article also proves to be quite inspirational, including the following excerpt:

“All in all, I try to get up every day with a smile on my face. One of the important things in life and how I deal with it is just keeping busy. With Starr Guitar Systems, I’m building wiring harnesses 7 days a week, business is just going crazy, I have 6 on my bench that I have to build when I get home today. I haven't had a day off in years (laughs), so I don't have time to sit around and mope.”

“Business has been so good that I am going to have to eventually hire on one or two extra technicians. I will need the extra help not just because business has exploded, but because at some point I won’t be able to do the detailed electronics work anymore due to Parkinson’s. The only time it really starts seriously bothering me is when I try to play guitar in the recording studio, then it hits me. Of course, there are other times as well, but my music is obviously a really tough situation for me to deal with because it’s such a huge part of who I am.”

This was soon followed by the debut album ‘NIHL’ in 2016 and their second full length ‘Endinghent’ in 2017 which received high praise from critics and fans alike. UK Alt-Metal Unit VEXED Releases Exciting New Single + Music Video, “Misery”

Vicious Debut Album, Culling Culture, out May 21, 2021

Pre-Order NOW

“This is a must watch band of 2021.”

- KNOTFEST (US) -

“VEXED are a brute prog-deathcore hybrid that flattens everything - somewhere between Meshuggah, Periphery and Thy Art Is Murder. Fresh, emotional and extreme in every respect!”

- EMP (GER) -

“... a volatile and exciting prospect on the UK metal scene"

- ROCK SOUND (UK) -

“Anger and disgust may be the most relatable human emotion on the Earth right now, which VEXED bottled, distilled and consumed undiluted at casket strength potency..."

- LOUDWIRE (US) -

Fast-rising UK based upstarts VEXED have been checking off boxes as the next big name in aggressive-yet-progressive modern metal, and have just released one of their most ruthless offerings yet: the gut-punching, absorbing third single “Misery”. The standout single is cut from the band’s upcoming album, Culling Culture, out May 21 via Napalm Records.

On their third offering, the four-piece fluctuates between grooving, ethereal leads and destructive, airtight riffs, technically adept drumming and vocalist Megan Targett’s undeniably dynamic, haunting vocal power. As their new music video clearly refers to absolution via its striking visual content, the track’s lyrics reflect a reckoning with the past, mirroring the intensely personal themes of the upcoming album.

VEXED on the new single:

“Anxiety is a demon powerful enough to posses anyone and can leave the strongest of us feeling helpless. “Misery” is an inner monologue of an anxiety riddled mind constantly overanalysing and catastrophising. Taking inspiration from a spectrum of genres, this track is a true musical representation of how drastically our thoughts can change from one moment to the next, often ending in confusion and “Misery”.”

Pre-Order VEXED’s debut album Culling Culture NOW!

Facing very personal experiences, Culling Culture is a tribute to hate, betrayal and anger, whilst also reflecting post-modern society with strikingly honest songwriting and heavy groove. Moreover, for as confident as they are musically, VEXED is as poignant lyrically. The title of the album, Culling Culture, and portions of its contents deliver the band’s unfiltered response to the world’s latest social phenomena of public ostracism, “cancel culture”.

Unrelenting lead vocalist Megan Targett’s vicious vocal assault blending venomously low growls, soaring cleans and razor-sharp rap-like deliveries (see “Fake” and “Weaponise”) is backed by the pure technical proficiency of bandmates Willem Mason-Geraghty (drums), Jay Bacon (guitar) and Al Harper (bass). The warning instrumental “Ignorant” prefaces the record’s menacing atmosphere and provides a flawless basis for smashing wake up call “Hideous” and fiery, threatening tracks “Fake” and “Narcissist”. Ghostly “Aurora” and disrespectfully heavy album-closer “Lazarus” showcase Targett’s multi-faceted clean vocal delivery while clashing otherworldly auras with resonating, melodic rhythms. “Epiphany” blends both, offering a bold message of moving past self-loathing, while superciliously weighty offering “Weaponise” seethes between violent hatred and ambient darkness.

Culling Culture will be available in the following formats:

-1-CD Digipak

-1-LP Gatefold Vinyl BLACK

-1-LP Gatefold Vinyl ORANGE TRANSPARENT (strictly limited to 100 copies)

-Digital Album

[1-LP Gatefold Vinyl ORANGE TRANSPARENT (strictly limited to 100 copies)]

Megan Targett - vocals

Jay Bacon - guitar

Willem Mason-Geraghty - drums

Al Harper - bass
