Brighton-based singer-songwriter Nick Hudson has announced that he will release his new 'Font Of Human Fractures' album this spring. Ahead of this 10-track offering, he presents a teaser for 'Surkov's Dream' (out February 24) and a live rendition (recorded in Sophia, Bulgaria) of 'There is No Such Thing as You' - the studio version of this track also appears on the LP.

This is his first solo studio album since 'Ganymede In A State Of War' (2016). Recorded and mastered at Church Road Studios by Paul Pascoe (Barry Adamson, Beat Hotel), these are neo-classical torch songs, banishing rituals and searing ballads, scored for piano and two violins, underlined with gothic electronica, with dramatic cameos and curveballs. Musically, Hudson is influenced by Coil, Kate Bush, Laibach, Danny Elfman, Nico and Scott Walker.

The new solo release, scored almost entirely for piano and two violins, is a ruminative melting pot from the point of view of a queer man in his late thirties. It is like a dialogue with his younger self, negotiating himself free of toxic programming and banishing the inhibitions that can blight, dull and impotize the best of us.

Nick Hudson is a prolific figure on the UK underground music scene and is perhaps best known as frontman of art-rock band The Academy Of Sun, who released their dystopian epic 'The Quiet Earth' last year to critical acclaim. Apart from music, Nick's vast output also encompasses painting, film, and he has just completed his first novel.

Hudson has also collaborated with Wayne Hussey (The Mission) and Matthew Seligman (Bowie, Tori Amos, Morrissey), as well as members of NYC's Kayo Dot, David Tibet (Current 93), Asva and Canadian queercore icon GB Jones. As The Academy Of Sun, he has also collaborated with Massive Attack's Shara Nelson. Having toured 3 continents, highlights include appearances with Mogwai, Toby Driver and Keith Abrams of Kayo Dot, and Timba Harris (Mr Bungle, Amanda Palmer).

'Font Of Human Fractures' is a kaleidoscopic and emotionally transparent document of the search for self-worth – and ultimately love – in a thorny, unevenly-stacked world. On April 30, this record will be released on vinyl and also digitally everywhere, including Bandcamp and Spotify. Already on February 24, the first single 'Surkov's Dream' should be revealed.

UK indie pop artist Léanie Kaleido announces new LP, presents 'All The Things I'm Made Of' single

UK singer-songwriter Léanie Kaleido has announced she will be releasing a new album, entitled 'How To Weigh A Whale Without A Scale', produced by Ride frontman Mark Gardener at his OX4 Sound Studio near Oxford. Gardener also contributes guitar on one track. Ahead of this, she previews the lead track 'All The Things I'm Made Of'.

No stranger to music, Kaleido grew up in a musical household. Her father Top Topham was the original lead guitarist in The Yardbirds and was signed to Mike Vernon's Blue Horizon record label as a solo artist.

On this long-play, Kaleido plays lyrically astute, laid-back pop, piano-based ballads with the odd quirky guitar ditty thrown in, showcasing Léanie’s eccentric look at life. This new release will thrill Léanie’s existing fans, giving them lashings of melancholia, but peppered with that ever-present tongue-in-cheek commentary that tells you she never has and never will take herself – or anyone else - seriously.

But this third album also cements her as a consistently accomplished songwriter, unbound by the notion of what is ‘cool’ as she sits back and enjoys the thrill of writing unabashedly from the soul.

Léanie, who grew up "snogging posters of Ride and wanting to be PJ Harvey", has, over time, settled into the acceptance that her songs just come out the way they do. “Not especially cool", she says, “but I’m really proud of some of my lyrics. Getting ‘salient verities’ into a song gave me a lot of satisfaction! Now Mark is a really good mate who knows what works best for my songs. And he has the best selection of green tea. I’m now a loose leaf connoisseur, thanks to him!”

Kaleido's 50th year went off with a bang thanks to Gardener's open-armed invitation to record at his Oxford studio. After four or five sessions throughout the less locked-down parts of 2020, and ten songs later, an album was born.

"The songs on this album represent the highs and lows I’ve encountered over the past few years, how I’ve dealt with them and what I’ve learnt through the process. It’s a mixture of love, regret, philosophies, humour and hope. I’ve always been a late developer, and so this to me feels like a coming-of-age album," says Léanie Kaleido.

"Mark Gardener was determined to make my vocals and lyrics 'the stars of the show' and this has steered my sound to something more stripped back and atmospheric. Mark is a top bloke. He made me feel at ease straight away. The anxiety tablets I’d taken with me to stop myself exploding with fear weren’t needed and we got on famously from the start. It was such a laugh recording with someone who once had been the target of my ‘dribbly poster snogs’ and now is just a really good mate who knows what works best for my songs."

'All The Things I'm Made Of' is now available as an immediate-gratification download upon ordering her 'How To Weigh A Whale Without A Scale' LP. As of March 12, the full album will be released everywhere digitally and will be available across online streaming platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify. AUTARKH Premieres New Song "Lost to Sight" via Roadburn

Dutch extreme metal outfit AUTARKH has partnered with Roadburn Festival to premiere "Lost to Sight," the latest single from their upcoming opus, 'Form in Motion.' The song and official music video, which was filmed and created by Guilherme Henriques.

AUTARKH founder Michel Nienhuis comments: "We are thrilled to present our very first music video for ‘Lost To Sight.’ The video was shot by the talented videographer Guilherme Henriques at Wagenmakerij and Textielmuseum in Tilburg (NL). The beats throughout ‘Form In Motion’ also feature sounds from old weaving looms that were recorded at Textielmuseum. ‘Lost To Sight’ is a song about transformation. Efforts and sacrifices carve a path towards fundamental shifts in understanding. A form in motion, moving towards transformation - lost to sight in the world of matter."

To misquote Allen Ginsburg "the circle DODECAHDRON is broken. But with death comes rebirth." From the fertile grounds of Tilburg (NL) rises new contemporary metal outfit AUTARKH, a group of musical extremists dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the auditory senses. Autarkh is the brainchild of Michel Nienhuis, founding member and composer/guitarist of DODECAHEDRON. Dodecahedron released 2 albums on the French record label Season Of Mist in 2012 and 2017 and has played at Inferno festival (NO), Reykjavík Metalfest (IS) Brutal Assault (CZ), Roadburn Festival (NL) and Eurosonic (NL) amongst others.

Death and illness was closing in on Dodecahedron, triggering a conceptual transformation that was necessary to effectuate Nienhuis’ artistic development. In the fall of 2019 Nienhuis teamed up with producer Joris Bonis (Dodecahedron, Ulsect), guitarist David Luiten and electronic composer / producer Tijnn Verbruggen, a set of musicians with backgrounds ranging from metal to techno. Autarkh’s first full length album ‘Form In Motion’ will be released the 12th of March 2021 through Season of Mist records.

AUTARKH takes a unique position in the world of extreme metal. Synthetic, IDM-style beats and glitch effects - reminiscent of those produced by artists such as Aphex Twin and Autechre - are perfectly balanced with overwhelming riffs and vocals that range from dark growls and exasperating screams to semi-clean harmonies. Together with fluttering blast beats, dense bass lines and eerie soundscapes these elements produce an intense and crystal clear tunnel of sound where the energy of contrasting emotions is constantly felt.

‘Form In Motion’ feels like an evolution in both sound and lyrical content from the two albums Nienhuis released with Dodecahedron. Musically, because of the radical approach the band takes with their rhythm section; lyrically because the album is more about a personal experience of human nature and the nature of the universe. The album takes us from unraveling storms and destructive chaos to transformation, liberation and fundamental shifts in understanding in order to align with the divine. That progression is also present in a linear sense – the intrusive uneasiness the album starts with gives way to a sense of epic victory towards the end.

Something rises in the bleak and blackened skies of society as we know it. Vortex community GAEREA are about to bestow their Undying Sigil to the masses, with their brand-new full length ‘Limbo’!

GAEREA is a black metal quintet from Portugal. Emerging in the beginning of 2016, the band released their first (self-titled) EP on November 11, 2016 through Everlasting Spew Records. The EP received many praises from the worldwide press, and it was not long before the first full length "Unsettling Whispers" (2018) was presented.

With that, GAEREA had the pleasure to perform and tour festivals in Europe and China, including performances with Jupiterian in April 2019 and a headlining Chinese tour in May 2019. There are songs about movies, video games, and more and I think combining these things with metal music is awesome. When Sergio and Marcelo showed me the songs, I got so happy because this is the kind of music I love and when you do the things with passion, it comes naturally. It was really amazing to work with them," says vocalist Raphael Mendes.

Like many other music fans, Frontiers first came across Mendes while surfing YouTube for new and exciting talent. Serafino Perugino, President and A&R director of Frontiers Records, knew right away that he wanted Mendes to join the label's ever growing pool of young, exciting talent and moved quickly to invite him to the Frontiers family. Mendes' vocal style begs for him to release a proper heavy metal album and Perugino had to look no further than Frontiers' own roster to find the right talent to pair Mendes with. He pulled in two other stellar Brazilian musicians, Sergio Mazul (SEMBLANT) and Marcelo Gelbcke (LANDFALL) to write an album that would perfectly suit Mendes' stunning vocals and thus, Icon Of Sin was born.

Of the first single 'Shadow Dancer', Mendes says, "'Shadow Dancer' was my first favorite song from the album, though it's difficult to choose only one. When I started working on this song I really loved the story behind the lyrics, because it is a mix of things that I have always liked: Heavy Metal, Asian culture, and martial arts. This song has all the elements that a Heavy Metal fan loves: great riffs, great story, a chorus that will be stuck in their heads."

Producer/songwriter Sergio Mazul says, "'Shadow Dancer' is basically a song about ninjas. While it acknowledges the cultural and historical roots of this theme, it is also influenced by years of watching movies, documentaries, reading books on the topic, and even playing classic video games such as Shinobi and Ninja Gaiden! Musically, we wanted killer riffs, killer solos, and an epic, strong chorus. This was created by metal fans for metal fans!"

“'Shadow Dancer' is one of the first tracks we wrote and we thought this song could be an opening single from the beginning. I’m sure it’s super catchy chorus is going to be stuck in peoples' heads!” says Gelbke.

Raphael Mendes has become a very popular figure in the Youtube world due to his jaw dropping vocal covers. His recognition as one of the hottest new talents in metal started in 2016 when he was invited by guitarist Fabio Lima to record a YouTube video that wound up going viral. Encouraged by the reaction, Mendes launched his own YouTube channel to create more videos for fans to enjoy. As more and more fans around the world started to discover him, he was invited to join other musical projects, including Marius Danielsen's “Legend Of Valley Doom Part 2”, which also featured Michael Kiske, Vinny Appice, Mark Boals, Michele Luppi, and Diego Valdez, among others. One of the things that made Mendes' reputation grow considerably happened earlier in 2020, when a video series called “What if Bruce Dickinson sang in other bands” was launched. With Mendes Dickinson-esque singing style being used to cover songs by Megadeth and more, these versions impressed fans worldwide and word quickly spread in the metal community.

Raphael's videos ended up reaching the eyes and ears of Frontiers, a label known for signing and nurturing the most promising new names of the next generation of rock and metal. Frontiers has recently started to work more and more with South American based talent and had the thought to pair Raphael with two outstanding musicians of the Curitiba metal scene, both of whom have already unveiled their musical talents through the label: Sergio Mazul, singer of Semblant and Marcelo Gelbcke, guitarist of Landfall. While the music of their respective bands are quite dissimilar, both have a passion for traditional heavy metal and knew they could craft amazing music for Mendes to put his vocals to. Icon Of Sin's debut album is a no-nonsense, straight ahead classic pure heavy metal album.

NIGHTFALL Premieres New Song, "Giants of Anger"

Greek metal masters NIGHTFALL are now unleashing "Giants of Anger," the third and final new single of their brand new opus, 'At Night We Prey.' The full-length is set for release on March 05, 2021.

Vocalist Efthimis comments on the track: "'Giants of Anger' is about Wilhelm's II (the last German emperor) struggle with Erb's palsy, and the mental challenges he underwent to overcome it in a world where royal blood ought to be healthy. The song is carrying the frustration and reminds us all that mental disorders make no discrimination."

It has been seven long years since the world was last blessed with new music from the melodic blackened death metal stalwarts of NIGHTFALL. While the band has been absent from the scene since the release of 2013’s Cassiopeia, their legacy has not been forgotten. Comprising the holy trinity of Greek metal – along with ROTTING CHRIST and SEPTICFLESH – NIGHTFALL was the first extreme act in the country to sign an international deal, introducing the world to the burgeoning Mediterranean scene in the early 90s. Now, the band is plotting a triumphant return with At Night We Prey, the darkest and latest chapter of NIGHTFALL’s already storied career. Unlike past efforts, the band abandons any gothic aesthetic, traversing more into a melodic assault that calls to the sounds of Gothenburg, displaying an obvious maturation from the band that showcases their most serious, evolved, and tightest effort to date.

During the first decade of NIGHTFALL’s lifespan, the band headlined stages across Europe. Thereafter, went on to dominate international festivals such as Brutal Assault, Sonisphere, and Wacken, the latter of which the band solidified their legacy as the first ever Greek band to earn an envied spot at the renowned festival. The band eventually made the decision to switch to a studio act before they went completely silent. When reflecting upon the sudden disappearance after a steady rise from the underground, vocalist and founding member Efthimis Karadimas explained that it was due to an all too familiar beast – depression. “It's because of depression that kicked in as early as mid-00s. I can write for hours and get into details about stuff gone wrong or mistreated situations, but the basis of all discouragement to move on has been depression and the effort required to get over it.” Despite the dark days, Karadimas did not abandon music entirely, moving on to form THE SLAYERKING, a gothic doom metal band that has released two agonizing full-length records between 2016-2019.

Alas, the abrupt departure of the band was not the final “goodbye” as NIGHTFALL has been reinvigorated with a new lineup and coveted deal with Season of Mist. Karadimas has reunited with original NIGHTFALL guitarist Mike Galiatsos, who helped define the band’s sound during the early years. With the addition of drummer and producer Fotis Benardo (ex-SEPTICFLESH) as well as guitarist Kostas Kyriakopoulos (THE SLAYERKING), the band is finally ready to release the tenth studio album At Night We Prey. In addition to the long-awaited new music, Season of Mist will also be re-issuing the band’s original albums that were produced by Holy Records back in the 90s. This is not the only news the band has to share as NIGHTFALL has also vowed to finally perform again. “We are gonna play these live, including stuff never played live before,” says Karadimas.

At Night We Prey is a very dark and personal effort, tackling the topic of Karadimas’s battle with depression. “A beast I have experienced its teeth deep into my soul, I decided to come out and share that experience with metalheads,” Karadimas laments. “This is the least I can offer now to the big fight against depression. If we do not stop this, it will eat us all alive. Share your pain, speak openly about it. This is the only way to kill the demons in your mind.”

RADIO MOSCOW RELEASE CD/DVD SET, ‘LIVE AT ROCKPALAST 2015’

One of today’s top blues-rock-psych bands, Radio Moscow, has dug into their archives and unearthed the recently released ‘LIVE AT ROCKPALAST 2015.’ Featuring members singer/guitarist Parker Griggs, bassist Anthony Meier, and drummer Paul Marrone, the 15-track release (filmed on May 18, 2015) includes fully-cranked versions of all the Radio Moscow classics fans have come to expect hearing on the concert stage – “I Just Don’t Know,” “250 Miles,” “Broke Down,” “Brain Cycles,” “No Good Woman,” etc.

According to the group’s manager, Bruce Duff, the idea behind issuing the performance was a simple one. “MIG licensed it from the Rockpalast company, it’s a big reissue campaign involving numerous artists.” And the result is extraordinary – “Live its louder, more direct, and more open to free-form improvisation.”

And this stellar concert recording is certain to lead to further accolades bestowed upon the band – such as the Blue Rock Review site calling the trio “hard-hitting masters of the craft,” while the Obelisk site raved, “If you don’t already know Radio Moscow are one of the best and most vital bands currently boogieing their way around the planet, you’ve probably never seen them live.”

Formed in 2003 by Griggs in Ames, Iowa, the band has been based in San Diego county, California, for several years now. Radio Moscow has released four studio albums to date: 2007’s self-titled debut - produced by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, who introduced the band to Alive Natural Sound records, the label that has released the band’s next three albums – 2009’s ‘Brain Cycles,’ 2011’s ‘The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz,’ and 2014’s ‘Magical Dirt’ (the last title being the one that the trio was supporting at the time of this performance’s taping). And in 2017, the group offered up ‘New Beginnings’ – their first for Century Media Records.

And as Bruce points out, there are quite a few standout performances to be witnessed throughout ‘Crossroads Festival 2015.’ “I like a lot of the songs that were from ‘Magical Dirt,’ which was new at the time this was recorded, such as ‘Rancho Tehama Airport,’ ‘Gypsy Fast Woman’ and ‘Death of a Queen.’ I also was surprised by the acoustic bonuses which I’d not heard before, the Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac cover ‘World Keep on Turning,’ and Radio Moscow standard ‘250 Miles’.”

Radio Moscow has toured and performed throughout the world with the likes of Graveyard, Witchcraft, Joe Bonamassa, Pentagram, the Sheepdogs, Nebula, and Bang, to name but a few. In addition to performing at the Crossroads Festival, they have played the Ride Festival, Desert Daze, Electric Funeral, End Hip End It, the Psycho California festival, and as is only appropriate, have headlined shows in both St. Petersburg and Moscow in Russia.

Introducing Montreal, QC, Canada Metal Band Suicide For A King. The band premiered their new single and video for "The Worst in Us"

"Emotions play a significant role in the human experience itself and can have a profound impact on ones life both very positively and extremely negatively. Your life can be altered and a new path set because of a moment of indecision or the wrong decision" says the band.

Birthed in Montreal, QC, Canada, the band began fleshing out their sound in 2015 when Fred started the first incarnation of SFAK with a group of friends. In 2016, wanting to take the band more seriously and start working on more mature material Fred enlisted the help of Raph who joined the band after meeting Fred at school (both studied music). Ema and Marc joined the band in 2017 and the final piece of the roster was added when Jeremy joined the band in 2018 and the final form of SFAK took its shape. The band hit the studio and recorded all new material (original material from 2017) with new vocalist Jeremy Rodriguez-Carignan on vocals and released Ocean Within in 2019 to generally positive reviews. The band supported the effort with local shows in Montreal and support slots around Quebec and then shortly after the pandemic hit in March of 2020 the band hit the studio to begin writing new material.

In November of 2020 the band released "Misconception" along with an accompanying music video. The pandemic of 2020 stopped the band from being on the road but the band hit the studio and pounded out material expected to appear on their upcoming release scheduled for 2021.

The band has performed with and supported Blessthefall, Silent Planet, Currents and Escape the Fate.

After their swing through Japan, the readers of the biggest Japanese rock magazine Burrn! voted Temple Balls as ‘the second brightest hope’ and additionally were chosen as ‘The Newcomer of the Year’ on Masa Ito’s Rock TV.

The second album, “Untamed” dropped on March 8, 2019 and immediately got fantastic reviews from music media such as Soundi and Burrn! magazines. The band also toured Europe as support for Sonata Arctica, cementing their reputation as a stellar live act.

Temple Balls third album, “Pyromide” is now ready to be unleashed. Produced by none other than Jona Tee (H.E.A.T), it is a stunning punch in the face for all lovers of anthemic and melodic hard rock.

SINOPTIK Release Music Video for New Single "Apple Tree"

Ukrainian Psychedelic Prog-Rock trio SINOPTIK are eager to share another offering from the upcoming new studio album. The group has released the track "Apple Tree", along with an accompanying music video for the song. Speaking on the themes addressed in their new single, the band shares:

"Sparks of goodness from childhood often become the main triggers for our inner transformations - that is the main message behind Apple Tree. Most people forget about the dreams they had in childhood and adolescence. As a result, these people grow up and turn into callous and narrow-minded adults. In their lives, there is no place for magic and love, and life ultimately becomes an endless rat race in a maze of cruel reality."

The music video for the "Apple Tree" is a bold experiment; starting from the shooting location and up to the unique homemade video lens. The band set out to show beauty and boldness by adopting these new approaches. Accelerated shooting mechanics, psychedelic colors, and a deserted, forgotten place. All of this becomes a narrow bridge of surrealism, which leads the viewer into a vivid and amazing dream. The video for "Apple Tree" is the second collaboration between the band and director Shah Talifta.

Offering some closing thoughts on the track, vocalist Dmitriy Afanasiev states,

"Ultimately, we all build our own reality, but too often we forget about that. We also forget what are the real values in our life: families, friends, and simple joys. We want to remind everyone about this and pull out the forgotten sweet childhood memories. So that each person who has gone astray can believe in himself again."

Melodic alternative / indie rock duo Para Lia have announced the impending vinyl and CD release of their album 'Gone With The Flow' on February 12. The digital version was released on October 2, timed to sync with the anniversary of Germany reunification, a rather significant occasion for a band hailing from the Eastern part of a then-divided Germany.

Ahead of that, the band presented a joint virtual exhibition with artist Louis Renzoni and two invigorating singles - 'My Muse' and 'Riders On The Dike'.

‘Gone With The Flow’ is the band's second album and title of a new online mixed art exhibition. With 11 new tracks on offer, its core themes are the muse and the continual struggle with that relationship, explored amidst layers of sound and arrangements that continually swing from light to dark.

Originally from Falkenberg, Para Lia is an indie rock duo, now based in Cottbus (near Berlin). Influenced by the rhythms and tones of ‘90s alt-rock and the synth density of ‘80s darkwave, their own sound blends melodic guitars, along with distinctive lead guitar and resonant synths.

Comprised of René Methner (all instruments and vocals) and Cindy Methner (backing vocals), their band name was born of their love for Greece, with para lia, (παραλία) meaning “coast” or “beach" in Greek - a name full of mystery but optimism, which both has history and evokes a balance of the masculine and feminine.

Para Lia burst onto the underground music scene with their widely-praised debut album 'Soap Bubble Dreams' and 'Hawk Hill' EP in 2019, the band 's music has garnering comparisons ranging from J Mascis, The Cure, Phillip Boa and the Voodoo Club and Arcade Fire to The Mission, The Last Shadow Puppets, Sebadoh and Editors.

Methner's conversations with artist Louis Renzoni blossomed into not only a friendship, but also a mixed art exhibition. Originally destined for a New York gallery until the global pandemic took hold, their collaborative virtual exhibition is a celebration of their work, the release of brand new music, complemented by Renzoni's artwork. An immersive experience, each exhibit is fully interactive.

Psychedelic Rockers MYTHIC SUNSHIP To Release 'Wildfire' on April 2nd via Tee Pee Records

Copenhagen-based quintet MYTHIC SUNSHIP have established themselves among Europe's finest purveyors of psychedelic music; bridging the gap between heavy riff worship and expansive, free-jazz experimentation.

With their sixth studio album 'Wildfire' due for release this April – their first on New York’s legendary underground label, Tee Pee Records – Denmark’s most experimental sons simultaneously open a new chapter on their journey, while razing the foundations on which their previous albums were built. Recorded over the course of four intense days in Stockholm’s vintage RMV Studio, the album documents the erratic, visceral, untameable musical singularity that Mythic Sunship becomes once unleashed in improvisatory interplay.

Working with legendary Danish punk Per Buhl Acs behind the mixing desk, the group has reinvented itself to produce an album which showcases that essence, in its most primal form, is rare. Fusing together raw, kinetic outbursts, Wildfire takes the listener from groovy fuzz rock and cosmic jams into newer territories centered around crunched melodies, uncanny harmonies, turbulent rhythms, and ecstatic walls of guitar insanity. As best exemplified on the new single "Maelstrom" and its frenzied wails of electric dissonance, as their self-proclaimed “anaconda rock” collides with furious freak-outs and lysergic saxophony.
