WOLFHEART's most recent full-length album, Wolves Of Karelia, was released in April 2020 to wide acclaim! Just as wildlife itself maintains harmony with a violent clash of beauty and unpredictability, Wolves Of Karelia explores the band’s previously coined genre of “winter metal” – smoothly bridging a traditional approach of extreme genres while maintaining atmospheric and acoustic elements.

The album’s lyrical and musical content is inspired by the Winter War waged between Russia and the band’s native country, Finland, which took place during the winter of November 1939-March 1940. Finland ultimately managed to stop the Russian troops from invading their country. WOLFHEART mastermind and frontman Tuomas Saukkonen was inspired by the personal stories of local veterans, conveying the tales of what they experienced and survived from their perspectives. Somber, frostbitten and heroic, Wolves Of Karelia portrays these tales with stunning musical precision.

MOONSPELL Gets Ungodly with Brand New Video for “Common Prayers”

New Album Hermitage out February 26, 2021 via Napalm Records!

Pre-Order HERE

February 26, 2021 will see Portuguese dark metal titans MOONSPELL release their hotly anticipated 13th studio album, entitled Hermitage, via Napalm Records.

MOONSPELL is not only approaching their 30th band anniversary more ambitiously and stronger than ever, but with their forthcoming record, they've created a wonderfully intuitive, yet epic masterpiece and a testament to what they’ve always loved the most: Honest, emotional metal that binds us even in these dark times.

Following up on their just recently unleashed album opening track, “The Greater Good“ (watch the lyric video HERE), today, MOONSPELL is sharing their second single and a brand new video for “Common Prayers“! With “Common Prayers”, MOONSPELLsuccessfully builds upon their previous dark works.

Directed by Guilherme Henriques and featuring actress, singer and performer Aurora Pinho, this clip was shot 90 meters below the surface at the amazing caves of Grutas de Mira d’Aire, one of Portugal’s seven natural wonders. With a classy gothic and catchy feel, MOONSPELL flexes their best songwriting skills. The lyrical content is “perverse, almost religious” and deals with the 18th century pregnancy surge amidst Portuguese nuns. Twentieth century demolitions and excavations unearthed the bones of hundreds of children, revealing the sad fate of Jesus’ sons and daughters.

Vocalist Fernando Ribeiro states:

“Political? Religious? Who the fuck cares, really? Music is, for MOONSPELL, about self-expression, and we are old enough to pick our battles. ‘Common Prayers’ is the kind of song we love to write, sensual, different, with a to-die-for chorus. Hermitage is coming your way, you can run, but you cannot hide. Staying safe is staying smart. Say a prayer!”

Hermitage was recorded, mixed and mastered this past summer by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Paradise Lost, Primordial, Ghost, Sólstafir & many more) at the Orgone Studios in the UK. Building upon the sensitive facets of the album, one can expect an entertaining and revolutionary journey through the darkest days of human existence. Beautifully crafted songs such as “The Greater Good“ show us the modernity of the wolves in 2021, while tracks alike “Common Prayers“ embrace the MOONSPELL tradition of writing a gothic metal song like no other band can. The ethereal and melodic sounds of MOONSPELL, while never straying away from their metal roots, make Hermitage likely one of the deepest, surprising and most epic albums MOONSPELL has ever written.

Vocalist Fernando Ribeiro says:

“Hermitage is about turning our backs to the conventions of modernity. We are currently convincing ourselves that it’s all about us, that we (humanity) are everything. That the world revolves around us. However, ipsi facto, we are nothing and nothing revolves around us. MOONSPELL's goal, on these last turns around the Sun, are to write the best music we possibly can. To tell you a few stories with our lyrics, to be close to you in these times of distancing. We wish not to tease you or to influence you or to sell you our fish. We want to sit down with you at your table and feast together upon our notes and words. Like if we were close friends, like back in the time where music matters the most. In your bedroom listening to music, without having to post our smart remarks about it, inviting the hate in.

Hermitage is an open-hearted invitation to simplicity. To be humble. To be thankful. To serve you solace. Provide you comfort, entertainment. We sincerely hope this call reaches you. That you kindly accept what we offer. That you take our music with you to the place you must feel as yours. To your secret place, to your hermitage. Blessed be.”

Pre-Order Hermitage HERE:

Hermitage will be out on February 26, 2021 via Napalm Records, and will be available in several highly limited and collectible Deluxe Editions, Mediabook, Cassette, all of them including the Candlemass Cover "Darkness in Paradise", but also as Jewelcase and Digital formats. The Deluxe Box will also include an etched 7’’ Vinyl with another special bonus track, “The Great Leap Forward", as well as much more exciting additional collectable items! DRAGONY Presents New Single & Lyric Video for Symphonic Power Metal Hymn, “Golden Dawn”

Upcoming Album, Viribus Unitis, out January 15, 2021 via Napalm Records

Pre-Order NOW!

"Viribus Unitis has become a brilliant metal-epic, which hopefully will give this highly talented band the recognition they deserve." - Rock It! (GER)

Austrian symphonic power metal outfit DRAGONY recently announced the release of their new epic full-length, Viribus Unitis, out January 15, 2021 via Napalm Records, where we return to the days when Austria was ruled by emperor Franz Joseph and his wife, empress Sisi. But forget everything you’ve heard and read so far! According to DRAGONY and their upcoming opus Viribus Unitis, the history of their home country took a completely different turn.

After releasing the smashing first offering “Gods Of War”, with special guest songwriter Tommy Johansson (SABATON) and Tomas Svedin (SYMPHONY OF TRAGEDY), the six-piece around former VISIONS OF ATLANTIS singer Siegfried Samer is breaking in with a new anthem. Accompanied by a visually palpable lyric video, the second single, “Golden Dawn”, serves a crazy turn packed into a trademark DRAGONY glory metal hymn: Vienna is crumbling and burning, World War I rages on. Through the efforts of Archduke Rudolf, who is quite close to the edge of his own sanity and his will to surrender to dark powers, Queen Sisi has returned from the dead. And she did not come back alone! Driven by old magic from the lands beyond the veil, the legions of the damned have arrived.

Singer Siegfried Samer on “Golden Dawn”:

“This song deals with Archduke Rudolf's tinkering with dark magic, as he delves deep into the rituals and teachings of the Ars Goetia, in the attempt to bring his mother, Empress Elisabeth, back from the dead. Naturally, an undertaking such as this has to go terribly wrong, and Elisabeth is resurrected, possessed by a demon, as an undead Empress of the Damned, raising an army of the undead herself and leading it into battle against all mankind. Musically, it's a classic DRAGONY song, with a huge, catchy chorus and a symphonic middle part that is heavily supported by orchestra and thus forms an interesting contrast to the straightforward Power Metal of the first album single ‘Gods of War’.”

With united forces: DRAGONY unveil the truth and rewrite history!

Founded in 2007 and after releasing three studio records, DRAGONY returns to its rock opera roots on their brand new output. On Viribus Unitis the Austrian-based unit unveils what really happened at the time of the last Habsburg ruler of Austria, emperor Franz Joseph, his wife, empress Sisi, and their son, the troubled Archduke Rudolf.

Let’s clear the assumption that Rudolph died after trying to take his life at castle Mayerling in 1889. No way! Instead, after his mother Sisi is assassinated in 1898 in Switzerland, he subsequently gets in contact with dark powers which, driven by his desire to be with her again, make him turn to black magic and demonology. Now history takes its true course. There are not only zombies and cyberpunks lurking – DRAGONY also managed to prove further entanglements of well-known personalities you could never imagine…

For the exciting adventure cemented in their upcoming album, DRAGONY are supported by well-known colleagues like Tommy Johansson (SABATON, MAJESTICA, SYMPHONY OF TRAGEDY), Tomas Svedin (SYMPHONY OF TRAGEDY), Michele Guaitoli (VISIONS OF ATLANTIS) and Georg Neuhauser (SERENITY) - just to name a few. Mixing and mastering on Viribus Unitis was handled by Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann of ORDEN OGAN in his Greenman Studios in Germany.

Siegfried Samer on the new album, Viribus Unitis:

"Viribus Unitis marks both a return to our musical roots as well as a next step into the future for DRAGONY, as we are returning to a "rock opera concept" album similar to our debut Legends, but at the same time, we have evolved musically and are delivering what we consider our heaviest and most diverse album to date. And even though we are taking a bit of a creative approach with the source material, the concept story of the album is deeply intertwined with the history of Austria and in particular with the end of the Habsburg monarchy, which is often romanticized in Austria and ingrained in our collective consciousness. We are therefore thrilled to be able to release this very special album on an Austrian label, Napalm Records, and hope that both old and new fans of DRAGONY will enjoy the brand new songs!”

Could DRAGONY’s rewriting of history mark a new revelation of hidden truths previously shrouded in fantasy? Only Viribus Unitis tells all!

Pre-Order Viribus Unitis HERE:

VAN CANTO's Inga Scharf about the new album, Viribus Unitis:

"With Viribus Unitis, DRAGONY have delivered an album with expressive and melodically rousing songs. Power, melodies and catchy riffs - a history lesson of a very special kind that catches your ears incredibly quickly and stays there. And best of all: every time you listen to it again, you discover your next favorite song."

SABATON’s Tommy Johansson on his appearance as guest songwriter on “Gods Of War”:

“What DRAGONY did to ‘Gods of War’ is far beyond what I could have expected it to turn out when this song was written. How they play and sing this song is just glorious! It’s so powerful and you can sing along to the chorus right away. I’m happy and honored I got to be a part of DRAGONY, and the song suits well to the rest of this epic album!”

Today, the Midwest Street Metal crew, Purgatory, debuted their new stand-alone single, the first taste of new music in a year from the rugged group, called “Stack ‘Em Up” via a premiere with Metal Injection. The band has also announced their sophomore full-length, the follow up to their widely lauded debut Cold Side of Reality, will be released in the spring of 2021 via Unbeaten Records.

“Stack ‘Em Up” is a direct call-out of the institutions that have been brought under increased scrutiny this year, or as the band puts it, "This is a very anti-police, anti-politician, anti-justice system song dealing with the corrupt, greedy, evil, vile, racist, hate-fueled things ingrained in the whole system that runs our world”. After kicking off with a sample from the 1986 film Cobra, Purgatory jumps into a chaos inducing intro that begs to be performed live. The combination of Matt Anderson’s raucous vocal delivery over Josh Mata and Brian Pilla’s thrashing riffs and classic-sounding production style quickly turn the track into one of the most explosive pieces of their catalog. Stream the track here.

Pulling from influences foundational to their world of hardcore such as Biohazard, Cold As Life, and Madball, the band is just as influenced by their love of metal such as Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, and Deicide. Regardless of what end of the heavy spectrum they fall, the band’s overflowing supply of raw and untethered anger comes through in full-force in Purgatory’s latest release. Over the past several years Purgatory has become a rising force in both the hardcore and metal scenes, leading the charge out of the desolate Midwest with their debut LP, Cold Side of Reality. As a potent live force, the band has shared stages with such notables as Power Trip, Harm’s Way, Twitching Tongues, Ringworm, Terror, Merauder, and more. In 2021, Purgatory returns with their second and most confrontational effort yet.

NIGHTFALL Announces New Album, Shares New Single

Nightfall's brand new track 'Darkness Forever' which is taken from their new album 'At Night We Prey'. Release date: March 05, 2021.► Order here: https://red...

Greek melodic metal masters NIGHTFALL will be releasing their new full-length, 'At Night We Prey,' on March 5, 2021 via Season of Mist, making it the band's debut to the label! The album details and artwork can be found below. In addition, the band has shared the first single from the new effort, "Darkness Forever,"

The new album is now available for pre-orders HERE.

Vocalist Efthimis Karadimas comments on the track: "This song was originally inspired by Isaac Asimov’s nouvelle Nightfall. It is called 'Darkness Forever' because of its analogy to what one experiences when in deep depression. Hope seems to be nowhere near and help from others is never enough to bridge the gap between shattered psyche and real world. Incapacity to communicate this harsh condition, to explain what all is about, is suffocating. And as all beings struggling to breathe, reactions are neurotic and violent."

It has been seven long years since the world was last blessed with new music from the melodic blackened death metal stalwarts of NIGHTFALL. While the band has been absent from the scene since the release of 2013’s Cassiopeia, their legacy has not been forgotten. Comprising the holy trinity of Greek metal – along with ROTTING CHRIST and SEPTICFLESH – NIGHTFALL was the first extreme act in the country to sign an international deal, introducing the world to the burgeoning Mediterranean scene in the early 90s. Now, the band is plotting a triumphant return with At Night We Prey, the darkest and latest chapter of NIGHTFALL’s already storied career. Unlike past efforts, the band abandons any gothic aesthetic, traversing more into a melodic assault that calls to the sounds of Gothenburg, displaying an obvious maturation from the band that showcases their most serious, evolved, and tightest effort to date.

During the first decade of NIGHTFALL’s lifespan, the band headlined stages across Europe. Thereafter, went on to dominate international festivals such as Brutal Assault, Sonisphere, and Wacken, the latter of which the band solidified their legacy as the first ever Greek band to earn an envied spot at the renowned festival. The band eventually made the decision to switch to a studio act before they went completely silent. When reflecting upon the sudden disappearance after a steady rise from the underground, vocalist and founding member Efthimis Karadimas explained that it was due to an all too familiar beast – depression. “It's because of depression that kicked in as early as mid-00s. I can write for hours and get into details about stuff gone wrong or mistreated situations, but the basis of all discouragement to move on has been depression and the effort required to get over it.” Despite the dark days, Karadimas did not abandon music entirely, moving on to form THE SLAYERKING, a gothic doom metal band that has released two agonizing full-length records between 2016-2019.

Alas, the abrupt departure of the band was not the final “goodbye” as NIGHTFALL has been reinvigorated with a new lineup and coveted deal with Season of Mist. Karadimas has reunited with original NIGHTFALL guitarist Mike Galiatsos, who helped define the band’s sound during the early years. With the addition of drummer and producer Fotis Benardo (ex-SEPTICFLESH) as well as guitarist Kostas Kyriakopoulos (THE SLAYERKING), the band is finally ready to release the tenth studio album At Night We Prey. In addition to the long-awaited new music, Season of Mist will also be re-issuing the band’s original albums that were produced by Holy Records back in the 90s. This is not the only news the band has to share as NIGHTFALL has also vowed to finally perform again. “We are gonna play these live, including stuff never played live before,” says Karadimas.

At Night We Prey is a very dark and personal effort, tackling the topic of Karadimas’s battle with depression. “A beast I have experienced its teeth deep into my soul, I decided to come out and share that experience with metalheads,” Karadimas laments. “This is the least I can offer now to the big fight against depression. If we do not stop this, it will eat us all alive. Share your pain, speak openly about it. This is the only way to kill the demons in your mind.”

Reborn under the sign of thrash metal!

EKTOMORF have just released the second official single, “And The Dead Will Walk”, off their upcoming album, Reborn, out January 22, 2021 via Napalm Records! After hitting things off with the raging title track “Reborn”, EKTOMORF display their crushing heaviness once more on their second single. “And The Dead Will Walk” is another glimpse into the uncompromised, hard-hitting thrash metal that EKTOMORF will deliver on Reborn!

Frontman Zoli Farkas about “And The Dead Will Walk”:

„’And The Dead Will Walk’ is the darkest and heaviest number on the new album Reborn, slow and evil, and the video is just what I always wanted to make! It’s like an old school horror movie with a foggy scenery at a real graveyard. This creepy setting gives you the chills - can’t wait to play it live!“

Since their debut, Hangok (1994), the four-piece around singer/guitarist Zoltán “Zoli” Farkas has regularly delivered new power to their devotees. Only three years after the release of their chart-breaking full-length, Fury (2018), Reborn ignites a blazing fire with its heavy sound and harsh lyrics that will burn any genre limitations to the ground. Their 15th studio album breathes the spirit of the “Big Four” – Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth – while at the same time, beginning a completely independent new chapter of EKTOMORF.

Pre-Order Reborn HERE:

Reborn will be released worldwide as a bundle Digipack CD along with a patch and shirt, as well as an exclusive red/black splatter gatefold LP with a slipmat and signed poster, limited to 200!

Be prepared for this thunderous onslaught! With Reborn, EKTOMORF confidently kicks off a new chapter, taking along anyone who crosses the path of this thrash metal bullet with them!

NEW PROG ROCK GROUP FEATURING MEMBERS OF YES, SOUND OF CONTACT

DEBUT SINGLE + VIDEO 'YOU MAKE IT REAL' OUT NOW

Frontiers Music Srl is excited to announce the release of ARC OF LIFE's self-titled debut album on February 12, 2021. Arc Of Life is a new progressive rock supergroup featuring three members of the current YES line-up, vocalist/guitarist Jon Davison, bassist/vocalist Billy Sherwood, and additional drummer Jay Schellen, one of the most interesting talents in the “new” progressive rock scene in the US, Dave Kerzner (Sound of Contact) on keyboards, and Jimmy Haun (also featured on YES albums in the past) on guitar. Fans can get their first taste of the band's forthcoming debut with the new single and video, 'You Make It Real'.

Pre-order/save "Arc Of Life" HERE: https://orcd.co/arcoflife

The concept behind Arc of Life is, in keeping with the progressive rock philosophy, to craft creative, challenging, and ear-pleasing music that pushes boundaries.

Billy Sherwood describes the music as, “interesting, with well crafted songs, performed with precision and grace. All songs feature memorable melodies and lyrics that take the listener on a sonic adventure. Dynamic arrangements with peaks and valleys... it's all there.”

The other idea behind the band is that YES would be a clear point of influence. But while YES is clearly the main point of comparison, a lot of musical similarities can be drawn to describe Arc Of Life’s grandiose and epic approach to music.

In Jon Davison’s words, “Each YES member understands and supports when others may desire to explore and thrive along new artistic avenues. We then each find further inspiration to bring back to the YES fold.”

But all the descriptions are best left to the listeners to discern for themselves as repeat listens will reveal more layers.

Arc Of Life is a true garden of delight for progressive rock fans and the band is looking forward to performing live. “Once the world gets over the COVID hump, Arc Of Life will be planning as much touring as we can fit in between YES and our other projects. Quite honestly, we’re all chomping at the bit to be out performing again!” concludes Jon Davison.

Line-up:

Billy Sherwood - Bass and vocals

Jon Davison - Vocals

Jay Schellen - Drums

Jimmy Haun - Guitars

Dave Kerzner - Keyboards

WITHERED Announces Concert Live Stream for December 18

Subscribe to Season Of Mist for new releases : https://som.lnk.to/YouTubeTaken from the forthcoming album Somnium Decay. Release Date: November 16th, 2019. D...

Tortured blackened death metal outfit WITHERED has announced a virtual concert stream! The online show will take place on Friday, December 18 @ 8:00 P.M. EST in support of Atlanta music venue The Earl, which is raising funds to help keep the doors open during these troubling times. Tickets can be purchased HERE.

More information on the event can be found HERE.

Darkness seeps eerily out of the speakers. Cruel dissonances rip through the air. A crawling feeling of violent despair sends shivers down the spine. WITHERED have spawned a sinister 'Grief Relic.'

WITHERED were formed by Mike Thompson and Chris Freeman in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States of America in 2003, when their long running crust/grind band, SOCIAL INFESTATION, went on an indefinite hiatus. Moving away from social awareness, the duo turned to explore the vastness of humanity's capacity for suffering. Wes Kever (PUAKA BALAVA) was recruited on drums and Greg Hess (LEECH MILK) on bass.

WITHERED released an untitled 3-song demo and immediately began touring the Eastern US. The critically acclaimed debut album 'Memento Mori' followed late 2005. Wes and Greg left on good terms and were replaced by local musicians Mike Longoria and Beau Brandon (WAITED).

After more touring, sophomore full-length 'Folie Circulaire' came out in 2008, garnering high critical praise and entering many end of the year charts. WITHERED treads darker realms by combining Scandinavian black and death metal elements with their crust/grind heritage. 'Folie Circulaire' carved out the first steps of an evolutionary musical path that continues until today. Dylan Kilgore (WAITED) stepped in for Chris Freeman, who could not proceed with the band's heavy touring schedule.

After a term on the road, third album 'Dualitas' (2010) witnessed WITHEREDpush their unorthodox song craftsmanship and extreme genre bending farther than ever and introduced more esoteric philosophy elements to extend the limits of introspective discovery. Another gruelling touring cycle took its toll. Dylan and Mike Longoria left their posts. Brandon and Thompson had already roughed in a few new songs and completed the framework for their fourth full-length with Ethan McCarthy (PRIMITIVE MAN) taking over vocal and guitar duties.

Lacking the accustomed bass presence, WITHERED called upon Colin Marston (GORGUTS, KRALLICE) to fill the void left by Longoria.

With evolution being their only constant, WITHERED have plunged into their darkest abyss so far with 'Grief Relic!'

Line-up
Beau Brandon: drums
Colin Marston: bass
Ethan McCarthy: guitar, vocals
Mike Thompson: guitar, vocals

originally released by American rock band The Doors in the 60's. Liv's version of the song was produced by Svend “The Dane” Lerche and Executive Producer LeeAnna JamesLiv Strange chose the date of December 8th to release the cover in honor of Jim Morrison's birthday today.

"I decided to cover 'People Are Strange' because I've always been enamored by the oddities of the 'average' individual; the hidden secrets and twisted mind of your next door neighbor. We are all strange in our own way. In knowing that, it can either keep us connected to our personal freedom or burdened by its ghastly shadow," says Strange.

Liv Strange is an alternative pop artist from Chicago, Illinois, currently living in Los Angeles. You can hear 90’s grunge and theatrical elements shine throughout her musical style. Inspired by a multitude of dramatic cinema and rock music, her style shows itself through the likes of Post MaloneMiley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey.

As a child, she often escaped into her own fantasy world by dressing up as different imaginary characters and performing her favorite songs in her family room mirror, exposing her to an intimate world of performance. Though she dreaded the idea of school, she found her only solace through music groups where she learned how to use her voice. As a shy kid, she often strayed away from the crowd. Liv’s own solitude gave her the perfect opportunity to explore her musical fantasies where she started writing her own songs and eventually learned to play the guitar. She writes and produces all of her songs to this day.

Liv’s talent brought her all the way to Romania where she worked alongside many gifted musicians from “HaHaHa Production”, writing songs that would help unravel her musical rawness. Liv’s music can be described as dark and theatrical, with a hint of rock influence. A few of her many musical heroes include: Danny ElfmanNirvana and Queens of The Stone Age, continuing her part as a long-time fan of the swagger and style of male driven performers she always aspired to be like.

Liv has teamed up with two professional songwriters, LeeAnna James and PJ Bianco, who have helped define and amp up her unique sound. After years of artist development, she is ready to push her first ever EP out into the world where people can finally get a taste of who she is. The mysterious, yet quirky, Liv Strange.

FRONTIERS MUSIC SRL ANNOUNCES ROBERT BERRY’S NEW 3.2 ALBUM "THIRD IMPRESSION" DUE FEBRUARY 12, 2021

NEW SINGLE + VIDEO, 'A FOND FAREWELL', OUT NOW -

Robert Berry will return with a second 3.2 album, “Third Impression” on February 12, 2021. 3.2 is a continuation of the band 3, in which Berry played alongside Carl Palmerand the late, great Keith Emerson. Today, fans can get their first 'impression' of the new album with the release of the single and video, 'A Fond Farewell'. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/FhZ7-8K2oP0

Pre-order/save "Third Impression" HERE: https://orcd.co/thirdimpression

"Third Impression," the follow up to 3.2's debut album, "The Rules Have Changed," is a fine match for its predecessor. It mixes epic songs, such as album opener “Top Of The World” and closing song “Never”, the latter co-written by Robert with Emerson, with more melodic and AOR moments.

“Being left with “Never”, the final song that Keith and I worked on, weighed heavily on me,” Robert explains. “It was as if my friend was still here as we had this song unreleased to the world. It was a big and powerful piece of music, but was too long to fit on “The Rules Have Changed”. However, the more I listened to it, the more it brought me back to the many conversations Keith and I had about style and where 3's sound may have headed. I am so proud of these 3.2 albums and my time in 3. Playing with Keith was, and will remain, the best experience of my musical life.”

The choice of “A Fond Farewell” as the first single to be taken from “Third Impression” was swiftly agreed between Robert and Frontiers. “It can be difficult for an artist to pick out which song from an album should be the first to be released to the world,” Robert continues. “As on the previous 3.2 album “The Rules Have Changed”, Frontiers’ choice made complete sense. Not only because of the current state of the world, but also for reasons that true fans of 3.2 will understand, “A Fond Farewell” is the perfect launch for the final works started with the band 3.”

In October 2015, conversations about a new 3 album started between Robert Berry and Frontiers President Serafino Perugino as Robert had been speaking to Keith Emerson about recording a new album to follow 3’s “…To The Power Of Three” album which was released in 1988. From old cassette tapes, including some Emerson keyboard parts and demos, collaborating on musical ideas over the phone, to long discussions about musical direction, the framework of the album was set, but Emerson’s untimely death in March 2016 made the album an uncertainty initially. After several months of grieving and contemplation about what to do with these co-written songs and musical fragments from Emerson, Robert decided to resume work on the material and craft a record that would ultimately be a fitting tribute to Keith Emerson’s musical legacy and at the same time re-energize and update the musical style started with 3 some 30 years ago. The final result was 3.2, a reboot of the original 3 project. The 3.2 album, titled “The Rules Have Changed” and released in 2018, is a record that deserves to be heard by each and every fan of the great Keith Emerson and includes some exquisite musical parts, which every progressive music fan will be delighted to indulge in.

The working relationship between the legendary keyboard player Keith Emerson and singer and multi-instrumentalist Robert Berry started in 1987. Iconic manager Brian Lane (Yes, Asia, A-Ha, etc.) and drummer Carl Palmer arranged a meeting between the two prolific musicians. The plan was to form a more melodic, song oriented band (compared to Emerson Lake & Palmer), which would allow Emerson, Berry and Palmer to follow in the footsteps of the success that Asia and GTR were enjoying in that period. And thus, 3 was born, resulting in a top 10 US single in “Talkin’ Bout” and an acclaimed North American tour.

Look out for “Third Impression” on February 12, 2021.

TOMBS To Host Two-Hour Radio Special via Gimme Metal on Friday, December 11

New York/New Jersey metal formation TOMBS will be hosting their own very special two-hour radio special via Gimme Metal on Friday, December 11 @ 3:00 P.M. EST. In addition to curating a very special playlist, members of the band will be present for a live Q&A. You can sign up and tune in for FREE at THIS LOCATION.

Currently, TOMBS mainman Mike Hill also hosts Gimme Metal's flagship podcast, Metal Matters, which can also be heard HERE.

TOMBS is currently supporting their latest full-length, 'Under Sullen Skies,' which was released in November of 2020. The record has been named one of the best metal releases of 2020 by Metal Insider, Decibel Magazine, and others while drummer Justin Spaeth has been dubbed one of the best drummers of 2020 by Sick Drummer Magazine.

In addition, TOMBS previously premiered the official music video for their new song, "The Hunger," which pays homage to cinema's most infamous vampires! The song and video, which was created by Jaclyn Sheer

'Under Sullen Skies' can be streamed, downloaded, and ordered HERE.

There’s a line from Mike Hill’s audiobook/tour diary of ANODYNE’s 2004 European tour in which the gravel-throated frontman affirms, “I will always outwork you.” In that case, Hill was referring to an incident in Germany early on during a six-week long overseas jaunt with his previous band. In actuality, however, he could have been talking about any instance between when he first picked up a guitar as a teen and the present. Whether it’s his history dating back to previous bands OTIS, ANODYNE, KING GENERATOR or VERSOMA, his ongoing solo work in VASILEK, the more recent SCORPION THRONE project or his thirteen year reign as the driving force and nerve center of post-black metal institution TOMBS, hard work is second nature and nothing will keep the guitarist/vocalist from creative endeavor and expression. And it’s not just music in which his propulsive work ethic has gleaned results: Hill also is the CEO and roast master at Savage Gold Coffee (a labelling nod to TOMBS’ 2014 album of the same name), the host/producer/creator of the Everything Went Black podcast, host and producer of Gimme Radio’s Metal Matters flagship podcast, the creator and co-host of horror podcast Necromaniacs as well as a stalwart in the print and online journalism world covering music and MMA fighting. His is, has been and always will be a life steeped in dedication and with unassailable drive in the cross hairs. And despite the world being put on pause, Hill refuses to curtail his innate determination and ongoing tenacity with the result being TOMBS emerging with the next chapter in its impressive catalog and growing legacy: the band’s fifth full-length, 'Under Sullen Skies'.

“The week VERSOMA broke up in 2007, I started TOMBS,” he says, recalling how, characteristically, the band started before any dust was permitted to settle. “The initial rehearsals ended up being the bulk of material that showed up on the first [self-titled] EP. The intent from the beginning was to get back to playing music I wanted to hear and to not be so concerned with genre or satisfying anyone else’s desires. It was to do music on a personal level and be a reflection of the darkness I’ve felt throughout my life.”

Formed in the gritty corners of pre-gentrified Brooklyn, NY, TOMBS’ early mandate was steeped in the harshness and atonality of black metal but dosed with trace amounts of the varied influences and inspirations ingrained in Hill’s musical muscle memory by previous bands. “The canon of music TOMBS has created has spanned several different genres, but I’ve always had it my intent for there to always be a certain amount of violence and hardness lurking the background.”

Those early years delivered splits and singles, the highly revered 'Winter Hours' debut in 2009 and Decibel’s 2011 Album of the Year, 'Path of Totality'. Never one to sit still, 'Path of Totality' was followed by appreciable and impressive amounts of touring in accordance with the lauding afforded by critics and fans and the braying of foes, which only served as fuel for Hill’s perseverance. Savage Gold came three years later after which a restless Hill began nudging TOMBS’ black metal base into territories populated by gothic and death rock artists like FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM and SISTERS OF MERCY as well as avant-garde purveyors Caspar Brotzmann and Live Skull while never forgetting – or being able to – scrape the grime of NYC from under his fingernails. The addition of a second guitar and live keyboards/samples brought a fuller sound and allowed noise sequences and soundscapes to be brought to the live show. It was around the time of 2016 'All Empires Fall' EP that TOMBS punctuated its iconoclastic spirit and thought process. Despite then-being part of the Relapse Records family, the band struck out with the intent of self-releasing the EP in order to retain as much independence as contractual obligations would allow – retaining the digital and publishing rights while eventually licensing the record back to Relapse. A one album stint in 2017 under the Metal Blade banner birthed 'The Grand Annihilation' into the world where TOMBS took broader and more daring steps into buffering black metal with morose melody, sullen death rock and classic METALLICA chugging. Following a parting from Metal Blade, the band – now completed by drummer Justin Spaeth, guitarist Matt Medeiros and bassist Drew Murphy, who are also 3/4ths of New Jersey death metal crew KALOPSIA - quickly found a home on Season of Mist and issued the 'Monarchy of Shadows' EP literally a week before the world went into Coronavirus lockdown.

“The original strategy assumed we would be on the road for most of 2020,” says Hill with a lamenting laugh. “We had a sick tour with Napalm Death planned right after the EP’s release. We were going to record the new full-length before the tour and have it come out in the fall. There was all kinds of tour talk and plans and 2020 would have been a tour-de-force of TOMBSactivity in the United States and Europe. Obviously, none of that is happening, but we’re still going ahead with the record.”

Of course they are. Throw a hurdle in front of Mike Hill and he’ll never shy at rolling up his sleeves and taking on the challenge. Even with the world in shutdown mode, Hill is still brimming with enthusiasm about the input and work ethic of the current TOMBS lineup and how Spaeth, Mederios and Murphy stepped up to the plate in the creation of 'Under Sullen Skies'.

“Everyone contributes on this record and the door has always been open for others to do so. There has always been this misconception that I’m some sort of tyrant always telling people what to do and play. The fact of the matter is that most of the time I outwork people; that’s just the way I am. No one is ever going to outwork me on any level in any area of my life and I was always coming up with material. Now, I have these maniacs in the band who are equally motivated and there’s a whole new life injected into TOMBS. That’s awesome and I love it. These days we’ll try anything and we actually write stuff and throw it out because it’s not perfect. It’s more like a writing committee, which I really appreciate. It’s not just me writing everything. It’s a big difference from 'The Grand Annihilation' which was basically a solo record.”

'Under Sullen Skies' is this lineup’s second kick at twisting black metal’s DNA around dank emotional corners, psychological turmoil and the urban underbelly all of which is unavoidably coloured and touched by the present-day status of life on this here Earth.

“The album’s title came during all this and the sort of post-apocalyptic world we’re living in,” Hill explains. “It encapsulates an overall feeling of gloom and depression which is pretty much how we’ve been living for most of this year. The title was the last piece to fall into place. I remember standing on the roof of the building I was living in at the time on a grey day and it was raining – actually, it wasn’t even raining; it was a half-assed attempt at rain! – and depressing and I just thought, ‘What a sullen sky’ and it just stuck with me.”

The album starts with “Bone Collector,” a furious blast of melodic black metal that shifts gears towards an anthemic fist-pumping slog through the goth rock-thrash metal VENN DIAGRAM. “Void Constellation” takes as many cues from Peaceville Three gloom and doom as it does the death metal stomp of OBITUARY and INCANTATION. “Descensum” mines the various well-worn parts of Ride the Lightning for influence before blasting the doors open with some startlingly spacious chromatic single-note atonality. As the album progresses, further textures and moods are employed via acoustic instrumentation and keyboards as well as sampled soundscapes all butting heads with furious second wave black metal and sly to nods to death rock heroes SISTERS OF MERCY and FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM, all of the band’s motivations and interests being dropped into the chameleonic pair of tracks closing the album, “Sombre Ruin” and the appropriately titled “Plague Years.”

“‘Barren’ stands out as the song that’s most collaborative,” notes Hill. “Justin wrote the bulk of the riffs on that one, that sort of NWOBHM/SCORPIONS ending part is something I came up with, Matt added a bunch of guitar harmonies over it and Drew’s bass is laid thick underneath. That one is one of the biggest group efforts and one of the strongest songs on the record.
“I explore a lot of the archetypes that are used in folklore on this record, like werewolves and vampires which I’ve always been interested in, and on a song like ‘Secrets of the Black Sun’ I talk about the finite nature of our time on this planet, that nothing is really permanent and being aware of that whether as an individual or as a civilization, which I guess fits in with the pandemic and the changes that are going on. There are all kinds of other people, civilizations and creatures that have come and gone long before us and if you think about it over a long enough time span, everyone’s life expectancy goes down to zero.”

The new album not only sees Hill expanding his creative and collaborative comfort zone by wholly embracing the offerings of his band mates, but he’s also let down the drawbridge to allow folks from beyond the immediate TOMBSfamily to include what he describes as “mad guest spots.”

“There’s Cat Cabral, who does the spoken word piece on ‘Angel of Darkness.’ She’s not a musician per se; she’s more from the occult and witchcraft world. I’ve been friends with her for a really long time and she’s a great resource for esoteric knowledge. She’s also an actress who has done plays and commercials and been in films, so I figured she’d be the perfect person to deliver dialogue in an emotionally deep way, and be good at taking direction. Ray Suhy from SIX FEET UNDER rips the guitar solo in ‘Barren’ and that solo is its own masterpiece, in my opinion. BLACK CROWN INITIATE and former TOMBS live guitarist Andy Thomas contributed a guitar solo in ‘Void Constellation.’ Todd Stern from PSYCROPTIC plays the solo in ‘Mortem.’ Sera Timms from IDES OF GEMINI and BLACK MATH HORSEMAN does guest vocals on ‘Secrets of the Black Sun.’ We’ve got INTEGRITY’s Dwid Hellion singing the chorus on ‘The Hunger’ and BLACK ANVIL’s Paul Delaney also doing a couple of verses on ‘Angel of Darkness.’ So, yeah, there are a bunch of people on there and it’s like a community effort which I enjoy. I like involving people I respect and having them be a part of the whole thing.”

After spending his entire adult life navigating the pitfalls and pratfalls of the industry for expressive and creative opportunity, Hill has amassed an impressive legacy, one that 'Under Sullen Skies' contributes to admirably and irreverently. Like most, the extreme music underground lifer and veteran is probably justified in approaching the future with very muted optimism, but while the world works at screwing its head back on straight, Hill is going to do what he wants to do as well as he possibly can. Uncertainty may reign at the moment, but Hill and TOMBS are still going to do their thing and will be content to please themselves in the process. If anyone else happens to be along for the ride, then welcome aboard.

“'Under Sullen Skies' is a dark and introspective album,” he asserts. “It’s not a happy record that anyone is going to use to get pumped up on a Friday night. We wanted to pull out the stops, go full-on and make a nice body of work. I could care less if anyone likes the band or not because I’ve been through so many ups and downs with this thing that I don’t give a fuck if people enjoy the music. I know I like it, I know the guys in the band like it and we’re just rocking and rolling. This record and the EP came out about as close as I could imagine to what I have in my brain about how this band should sound. The whole trajectory of the band has had each record never quite hitting, but 'Monarchy of Shadows' and 'Under Sullen Skies' have both really come out how I envisioned the songs to be.”

Today, the band has unleashed a bewitching new music video for the first single “Addiction No. 1”. As the album opener, it immediately showcases the direction SIRENIA are aiming in with their new epos, and is a prime example of how modern melodies chime together with classic symphonic instrumentation. Electronic vibes merge with harsh riffing, while the catchy chorus draws the listener straight into the unique symphonic world of the four-piece, all topped with the outstanding vocals of Emmanuelle Zoldan.

Morten Veland about “Addiction No. 1”:

"This is our first single taken from the upcoming album. Musically I feel that this song really shows a modernised and new side of SIRENIA. I find the song very catchy, but heavy at the same time. Furthermore we have given the electronic elements a bigger role in this song. We hope you'll enjoy it!"

A modern ride straight into the heart of symphonic metal!

With Riddles, Ruins & Revelations, SIRENIA, around mastermind, bandleader, multi-instrumentalist, composer, songwriter and producer Morten Veland, remains as true to their album title word-play as they do to their dedication to symphonic soundscapes, drawing the listener into a pounding narrative about the darkest aspects of life. All eleven songs accumulate step by step to an integral sound artwork, where the versatile mezzo soprano voice of singer Emmanuelle Zoldan always shines in high-profile. In addition, there are many enchanting, instrumental surprises lurking on the way that absolutely need to be discovered.

"We Come To Ruins" offers a contrast of harshness to the more modern-orientated songs on the record, like “The Timeless Waning”, and skillfully portrays the multi-faceted nature of the band. On "Downwards Spiral", Emmanuelle is supported by the remarkable voice of longtime friend Joakim Næss on clean vocals, who has joined the symphonic metal outfit on previous releases. SIRENIA’s tenth full-length ends with a cover of Desireless` 1986 hit “Voyage Voyage”, where the unit again impressively combines symphonic sounds with electronic atmosphere, which doesn’t count only for this final epos, but for Riddles, Ruins & Revelations as a whole.

Veland on the album:

“Riddles, Ruins & Revelations is SIRENIA's tenth studio album. The album is very diverse, as a SIRENIA album should be. There's a lot of material that shows the band from a new side, and there is lots of material that is to be expected from the band musically. All in all the album will take the listeners through a journey that will cover both familiar and unexplored musical landscapes. We hope that you will enjoy the journey.

Season of Mist are proud to announce that German extreme metal band DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT has inked a new deal with the label! After the successful releases of 'Stellar' (2015) and 'Finisterre' (2017), the label is happy to continue the cooperation with one of the most interesting and hardworking bands in the extreme and black metal scenes. In addition, DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT will release a brand new album in 2021. More information will follow soon.

DWEF vocalist Nikita Kamprad comments: "It's been a little quiet around us lately, but rest assured we have worked our asses off this year to finally present you a new album in 2021! For this we are more than happy and honoured to have teamed up with Season of Mist yet again that we feel is the perfect home for us and our music. DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT have previously released a live EP of their performance at Metal Injection's 'Slay at Home' Festival.

Having reaped critical acclaim for their latest album 'Finisterre' (2017) and solidifying their position as one of the best live bands out there, DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT are about to release their first ever live album, recorded in Lido, Berlin (Germany) on October 14, 2017. The set, featuring songs from the band’s entire discography, is a testimony to the technical prowess of these musicians and the fine craftmanship in songwriting that the German band is widely known for.

Over the relatively short period of 10 years, the sound of DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT has clearly progressed, making each piece fit more seamlessly. 'Finisterre' flows together into a coherent picture that stresses the Germans’ unique approach and sound. This album marks the point where DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT turn their various influences into a work entirely of their own expression despite never trying to cover up their roots. This impressive maturity has been reached through several stages.

Founded in 2009 by guitarist Nikita Kamprad and vocalist Tobias Jaschinsky, DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT garnered early attention with their self-released debut 'Der Weg einer Freiheit' (2009), which quickly sold out and was re-issued with new drum tracks a year later. Following the 'Agonie' EP (2011), their second album 'Unstille' (2012) already cored international acclaim. In the aftermath of this record, co-founding member Tobias left and main songwriter Nikita Kamprad took over his vocal duties.

The frontman was first heard on third full-length 'Stellar' (2015), which sawDER WEG EINER FREIHEIT gaining traction across the pond as well as expanding their European base. Having performed along such diverse acts as WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, NEAERA, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, AMENRA, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX, and DOWNFALL OF GAIA as well as playing prestigious festivals such as Graspop, Hellfest, Resurrection, Roadburn, Summer Breeze, and Wacken has honed the band’s songwriting skills to razor-sharp precision.
