"'Massive' is literally all of my frustrations coming to the surface," Varela says of the song's powerful source of inspiration. Shark Island was once the house band at the world famous Gazzaris on the Sunset Strip. Signed to Epic Records in 1989 the band released their debut album “Law of the Order”, and also saw the tracks ‘Dangerous’ and ‘Father Time’ featured in the movie Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, as well as the song ‘My City’ from the movie Point Break.

Richard would go on to be part of the short lived supergroup Contraband which also featured Michael Schenker (Scorpions, UFO), and members of L.A. Guns, Ratt and Vixen. They released one album in 1991 before disbanding.

In 2018 the band started work on Bloodline which was recorded in Croatia and Los Angeles. It was limited to self release before being picked up by Deko Entertainment, and fans and critics are liking what they hear.

“So it’s no surprise that this album is good. What is perhaps surprising is just how good it is. Because it’s a hard rock beast….the spirit of old Shark Island is there, and that’s something to celebrate.”

Hoekstra once again handles the bulk of the creative process, overseeing production, songwriting and arranging (music and lyrics), and crafting his vision for this powerful hard rock gem. Add Chris Collier’s masterful mixing and the result is ‘70s/’80s classic hard rock with 2020’s muscle. As with the debut, 'Running Games' features an all-star cast of musicians including none other than Russell Allen (vocals), Tony Franklin (bass), Vinny Appice (drums), and Derek Sherinian (keyboards). The amazing Jeff Scott Soto also lends a helping hand with background vocals.

Says Joel, “Years ago, I released three solo albums that were mainly instrumental guitar music. With Joel Hoekstra's 13, I have started to work on something that showcases my production, writing, and playing in the genre that I'm known for, which is melodic hard rock.” Like "Dying to Live", "Running Games" can be described as DIO’ish at it’s heaviest, but is also influenced by the blues- based sound of Whitesnake as well as melodic bands like Foreigner, Journey, and the like. Hoekstra says, "‘Hard to Say Goodbye’ definitely represents the more melodic sound of the album, but rock fans can also look forward to some aggressive tracks."

On ‘Running Games’, lyrically Joel focuses on escaping problems both past and present by providing playful, imaginary, and serious takes on the situations.

Long hailed for his fiery, tasteful guitar playing, Hoekstra’s playing here raises the bar to a new level.

"'Face Them' is by far the most energetic song on the album, inspired by a drumbeat and guitar riff that Yuma came up with. It’s an incredibly busy song, with its dense rhythms and many key changes. It’s also a very fun song and perhaps a bit more uplifting than the rest of the album. I suspect it features the highest note I ever sang, at the end of the bridge.

We filmed a lot of the recording process of 'While Time Disappears' and even though the quality of the footage is not the best, we thought it was quite suited for a more lighthearted and fun music video for 'Face Them'. This isn't a stylized or serious music video, instead, it gives you a genuine impression of our studio process. Enjoy!"

Norwegian progressive metal act GREEN CARNATION has shared a brand new single, “The World Without a View,” via Bandcamp! Composed, arranged and recorded during the Covid-19 lockdown, the band has dedicated their new single to their fans. “The World Without a View” is a near 10 minute epic and is a digital release only. The recording available now via the band's Bandcamp page HERE.

"This piece of music is made for our fans who had been looking forward to see us live this year and to all those who have graced us with their love and support through the years", says founding member and guitarist Tchort.

2020 was going to be a big year for the band, releasing and supporting their first album for 14 years via Season of Mist in May and celebrating their 20th anniversary as recording artists. Approaching the end of a devastating year for the live music industry the band is happy for the opportunity to release new material much earlier than planned.

Vocalist Kjetil Nordhus adds: "We have managed to be creative in a difficult period for the band, and it feels good to be able to use the lockdown to do something positive."

Norwegian prog/avantgarde metal act GREEN CARNATION announced their return to the international metal scene for the anniversary of their cult classic ‘Light of Day, Day of Darkness’ in 2016. After a successful comeback with festival appearances and special shows both in Europe and North America, the Norwegians are ready to release their first new record in 14 years.

GREEN CARNATION from Kristiansand, Norway, was founded as early as 1990. After founding member Tchort joined legends-to-be EMPEROR and continued in SATYRICON and EINHERJER, the band was laid to rest until their debut album ‘A Journey To The End Of The Night’ came out in 2000. Following a period with line-up changes, 2001 marked the release of the bands epic ‘Light of Day, Day of Darkness’.

With their albums ‘A Blessing in Disguise’ (2003) and ‘The Quiet Offspring’ (2005), GREEN CARNATION shifted towards a more rock orientated style, before they surprised everyone with the stripped-down record ‘Acoustic Verses’ in 2006. What followed in the same year is perhaps one of the most spectacular DVD recordings metal history. The band played a show in the mountains, under a 30-meter-high dam. Only a year later, GREEN CARNATION disbanded.

After playing their first reunion show in 2016 and a few more in the following years, the musicians decided it was time to write new material. At the end of 2019, GREEN CARNATION entered the studio with producer Endre Kirkesola (ABBATH, IN VAIN and SOLEFALD), to record ‘Leaves of Yesteryear’.

The album is partially a retrospect on the band’s career, as the progressive metal act pays homage to their past and to their heroes with the re-recording of the classic song ‘My Dark Reflections of Life and Death’ and the BLACK SABBATH-cover ‘Solitude’. With new songs such as ‘Leaves of Yesteryear’, the fans will get a taste of what is to come.

The New York-based progressive death metal group, Cryptodira, shared their newest single titled "What Can’t Be Taken Back" from their forthcoming LP The Angel Of History, due out on December 4, 2020, via Good Fight Music. “What Can’t Be Taken Back”, the second single that follows up “A Tendency to Fall,” punches in with a hard-as-nails sonic assault, mid-tempo progressive riffing, and dueling vocals before giving way to the walls of melody that make up the second half of the track.

Speaking on the lyrical content of the single, drummer Matthew Taibi says:

"The most valuable resource anyone has at their disposal is time. What makes it so valuable is the fact that it can’t be reversed—time cannot be taken back. Barring the larger philosophical implications of time’s unreserved movement, suffice it to say that an hour of time should be worth far more than $15."

Guitarist and vocalist Scott Acquavella adds:

"Despite most of our songs having an ever changing series of moods, there is something about "What Can't Be Taken Back" that we feel represents our sonic and emotional spectrum particularly well. It is as furious as it is delicate and there is a common emotive thread running through each section that well-expresses the urgent and weighty nature of the lyrical content."

Right off the heels of their new EP Better Left Unsaid, the band is preparing their sophomore album, The Angel Of History, that acts as the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2017 debut, The Devil's Despair. More dialed in than ever, Leigh Kakaty flexes his songwriting growth and vocal capabilities across one of the band's most uplifting and soaring choruses to date. Channeling the groove of their latest Top 10 single “Work” and the chugging riffs of its companion track “Let The Chaos Reign,” "Breathe Again" marks one of POP EVIL's most diverse and captivating releases to date. POP EVIL has been a staple at major festivals and in theaters and clubs for over a decade, despite the group's relative youth. As they've ruled the roost with No. 1 Billboard Rock singles like "Trenches," "Deal with the Devil," "Torn to Pieces," "Footsteps," and "Waking Lions," they've taken their inspired message to the people, on tours with modern rock titans and veteran acts alike. The LP features notable guest appearances from JT Cavey (ERRA), Booka Nile (MAKE THEM SUFFER), Brian Wille(CURRENTS), and Mattéo Gelsomino (NOVELISTS). From an instrumental standpoint, the record is injected with soaring choruses while also giving attention to ambient guitar work. British hard-rock heroes, Thunder, have announced the release of their 13th studio album ‘All The Right Noises’ on March 12th, 2021. The band have also shared the first single ‘Last One Out Turn Off The Lights’.

The album is a return to the full-throttle sound of Thunder that has seen them create a hugely successful 30+ year career at the forefront of British rock, all built around the lifelong friendship of vocalist extraordinaire Danny Bowes and songwriting genius and guitarist Luke Morley.

‘All The Right Noises’ is an intense confection of illicit charms that reasserts their authority as the number one band in the land. Recorded in the months leading up to the first Covid-19 lockdown, it was originally due for release in September 2020. Strange to reflect then on how much of the new material appears to address the challenging new world we now inhabit.

On the album, Luke says “ All the songs were written and recorded pre-Covid. But it is interesting how if you look at some of the tracks through the prism of Covid they still make a lot of sense.”

The volcanic lead single from the album, ‘Last One Out Turn Off The Lights’ could easily be mistaken for world-ending lockdown rage. But, says Luke, “That was directly about Brexit, but you could apply it to everything else.”

The track is indicative of both the ferocity and message of the album as a whole, with subjects tackled including depression, mental health, and diversity. With their knack for imaginative songwriting, ‘All The Right Noises’ also takes aim at Donald Trump in a song written from his perspective, as well as a song Luke describes as “Like the opposite of ‘My Generation” by The Who in its message.

‘All The Right Noise’ will be available in 1CD, 2CD, 2LP, and 4LP formats, with the 2CD and 4LP releases containing bonus tracks.

The LP versions feature a stunning pop-out of the ‘Singing Ringing Tree’ which appears of the album’s glorious artwork. The photo cover art was shot by the band’s long term collaborator Jason Joyce. The sculpture, which also appears in the video for ‘Last One Out Turn Off The Lights’, is set in Burnley, Lancashire, and resembles a tree which harnesses the energy of the wind to create a choral, discordant sound.

‘All The Right Noises’ follows on from 2019’s stripped back and reimagined album, ‘Please Remain Seated’ which continued their consecutive Top 10 UK Album Chart run since their ecstatically received comeback six years ago.

It is another chapter in the band’s incredibly successful history that has seen them create a succession of some of the most highly-regarded rock albums of the past 30 years. The key to their renown: brilliantly conceived top-drawer material including all-time classics like ‘Dirty Love’, and ‘Low Life In High Places’, described by the late great Radio One Rock Show presenter Tommy Vance as “the greatest ever single released by a rock band”.

With their most recent success, Thunder have proven themselves as vital now as when they emerged with their debut album in 1990 ‘Backstreet Symphony’, and their hit follow-up in 1992 ‘Laughing On Judgement Day’, which was only kept off the top spot by Kylie Minogue.

"'Lonesome and Cold' is a song that has a lot of meaning to us, by being the start track on ‘Echo’, the first single we released from the album and the start riff Natasja wrote 12 years ago. We decided to strip it down to an instrumental song along with making a playthrough video. In addition to that, we hope that everyone does not get lonesome in the cold times ahead of us."
