TOMBS Premieres Vampiric New Song and Video

Just in time for Halloween, Brooklyn metal formation TOMBS has unveiled the official music video for their new song, "The Hunger," which pays homage to cinema's most infamous vampires! The song is taken from the band's upcoming full-length, 'Under Sullen Skies,' which is due on November 20. The song and video, which was created by Jaclyn Sheer.

“Like most metalheads, Halloween is our favorite time of year; it’s cold, dark and the veil is thin,” frontman Mike Hill comments. “Behold ‘The Hunger,’ an homage to vampires, blood and morose decay.”

Pre-orders for 'Under Sullen Skies' available in the Season of Mist shop HERE.

There’s a line from Mike Hill’s audiobook/tour diary of ANODYNE’s 2004 European tour in which the gravel-throated frontman affirms, “I will always outwork you.” In that case, Hill was referring to an incident in Germany early on during a six-week long overseas jaunt with his previous band. In actuality, however, he could have been talking about any instance between when he first picked up a guitar as a teen and the present. Whether it’s his history dating back to previous bands OTIS, ANODYNE, KING GENERATOR or VERSOMA, his ongoing solo work in VASILEK, the more recent SCORPION THRONE  project or his thirteen year reign as the driving force and nerve center of post-black metal institution TOMBS, hard work is second nature and nothing will keep the guitarist/vocalist from creative endeavor and expression. And it’s not just music in which his propulsive work ethic has gleaned results: Hill also is the CEO and roast master at Savage Gold Coffee (a labelling nod to TOMBS’ 2014 album of the same name), the host/producer/creator of the Everything Went Black podcast, host and producer of Gimme Radio’s Metal Matters flagship podcast, the creator and co-host of horror podcast Necromaniacs as well as a stalwart in the print and online journalism world covering music and MMA fighting. His is, has been and always will be a life steeped in dedication and with unassailable drive in the cross hairs. And despite the world being put on pause, Hill refuses to curtail his innate determination and ongoing tenacity with the result being TOMBS emerging with the next chapter in its impressive catalog and growing legacy: the band’s fifth full-length, 'Under Sullen Skies'.

“The week VERSOMA broke up in 2007, I started TOMBS,” he says, recalling how, characteristically, the band started before any dust was permitted to settle. “The initial rehearsals ended up being the bulk of material that showed up on the first [self-titled] EP. The intent from the beginning was to get back to playing music I wanted to hear and to not be so concerned with genre or satisfying anyone else’s desires. It was to do music on a personal level and be a reflection of the darkness I’ve felt throughout my life.”

Formed in the gritty corners of pre-gentrified Brooklyn, NY, TOMBS’ early mandate was steeped in the harshness and atonality of black metal but dosed with trace amounts of the varied influences and inspirations ingrained in Hill’s musical muscle memory by previous bands. “The canon of music TOMBS has created has spanned several different genres, but I’ve always had it my intent for there to always be a certain amount of violence and hardness lurking the background.”

Those early years delivered splits and singles, the highly revered 'Winter Hours' debut in 2009 and Decibel’s 2011 Album of the Year, 'Path of Totality'. Never one to sit still, 'Path of Totality' was followed by appreciable and impressive amounts of touring in accordance with the lauding afforded by critics and fans and the braying of foes, which only served as fuel for Hill’s perseverance. Savage Gold came three years later after which a restless Hill began nudging TOMBS’ black metal base into territories populated by gothic and death rock artists like FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM and SISTERS OF MERCY as well as avant-garde purveyors Caspar Brotzmann and Live Skull while never forgetting – or being able to – scrape the grime of NYC from under his fingernails. The addition of a second guitar and live keyboards/samples brought a fuller sound and allowed noise sequences and soundscapes to be brought to the live show. It was around the time of 2016 'All Empires Fall' EP that TOMBS punctuated its iconoclastic spirit and thought process. Despite then-being part of the Relapse Records family, the band struck out with the intent of self-releasing the EP in order to retain as much independence as contractual obligations would allow – retaining the digital and publishing rights while eventually licensing the record back to Relapse. A one album stint in 2017 under the Metal Blade banner birthed 'The Grand Annihilation' into the world where TOMBS took broader and more daring steps into buffering black metal with morose melody, sullen death rock and classic METALLICA chugging. Following a parting from Metal Blade, the band – now completed by drummer Justin Spaeth, guitarist Matt Medeiros and bassist Drew Murphy, who are also 3/4ths of New Jersey death metal crew KALOPSIA - quickly found a home on Season of Mist and issued the 'Monarchy of Shadows' EP literally a week before the world went into Coronavirus lockdown.

“The original strategy assumed we would be on the road for most of 2020,” says Hill with a lamenting laugh. “We had a sick tour with Napalm Death planned right after the EP’s release. We were going to record the new full-length before the tour and have it come out in the fall. There was all kinds of tour talk and plans and 2020 would have been a tour-de-force of TOMBSactivity in the United States and Europe. Obviously, none of that is happening, but we’re still going ahead with the record.”

Of course they are. Throw a hurdle in front of Mike Hill and he’ll never shy at rolling up his sleeves and taking on the challenge. Even with the world in shutdown mode, Hill is still brimming with enthusiasm about the input and work ethic of the current TOMBS lineup and how Spaeth, Mederios and Murphy stepped up to the plate in the creation of 'Under Sullen Skies'.

“Everyone contributes on this record and the door has always been open for others to do so. There has always been this misconception that I’m some sort of tyrant always telling people what to do and play. The fact of the matter is that most of the time I outwork people; that’s just the way I am. No one is ever going to outwork me on any level in any area of my life and I was always coming up with material. Now, I have these maniacs in the band who are equally motivated and there’s a whole new life injected into TOMBS. That’s awesome and I love it. These days we’ll try anything and we actually write stuff and throw it out because it’s not perfect. It’s more like a writing committee, which I really appreciate. It’s not just me writing everything. It’s a big difference from 'The Grand Annihilation' which was basically a solo record.”

'Under Sullen Skies' is this lineup’s second kick at twisting black metal’s DNA around dank emotional corners, psychological turmoil and the urban underbelly all of which is unavoidably coloured and touched by the present-day status of life on this here Earth.

“The album’s title came during all this and the sort of post-apocalyptic world we’re living in,” Hill explains. “It encapsulates an overall feeling of gloom and depression which is pretty much how we’ve been living for most of this year. The title was the last piece to fall into place. I remember standing on the roof of the building I was living in at the time on a grey day and it was raining – actually, it wasn’t even raining; it was a half-assed attempt at rain! – and depressing and I just thought, ‘What a sullen sky’ and it just stuck with me.”

The album starts with “Bone Collector,” a furious blast of melodic black metal that shifts gears towards an anthemic fist-pumping slog through the goth rock-thrash metal VENN DIAGRAM. “Void Constellation” takes as many cues from Peaceville Three gloom and doom as it does the death metal stomp of OBITUARY and INCANTATION. “Descensum” mines the various well-worn parts of Ride the Lightning for influence before blasting the doors open with some startlingly spacious chromatic single-note atonality. As the album progresses, further textures and moods are employed via acoustic instrumentation and keyboards as well as sampled soundscapes all butting heads with furious second wave black metal and sly to nods to death rock heroes SISTERS OF MERCY and FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM, all of the band’s motivations and interests being dropped into the chameleonic pair of tracks closing the album, “Sombre Ruin” and the appropriately titled “Plague Years.”

“‘Barren’ stands out as the song that’s most collaborative,” notes Hill. “Justin wrote the bulk of the riffs on that one, that sort of NWOBHM/SCORPIONS ending part is something I came up with, Matt added a bunch of guitar harmonies over it and Drew’s bass is laid thick underneath. That one is one of the biggest group efforts and one of the strongest songs on the record.

“I explore a lot of the archetypes that are used in folklore on this record, like werewolves and vampires which I’ve always been interested in, and on a song like ‘Secrets of the Black Sun’ I talk about the finite nature of our time on this planet, that nothing is really permanent and being aware of that whether as an individual or as a civilization, which I guess fits in with the pandemic and the changes that are going on. There are all kinds of other people, civilizations and creatures that have come and gone long before us and if you think about it over a long enough time span, everyone’s life expectancy goes down to zero.”

The new album not only sees Hill expanding his creative and collaborative comfort zone by wholly embracing the offerings of his band mates, but he’s also let down the drawbridge to allow folks from beyond the immediate TOMBSfamily to include what he describes as “mad guest spots.”

“There’s Cat Cabral, who does the spoken word piece on ‘Angel of Darkness.’ She’s not a musician per se; she’s more from the occult and witchcraft world. I’ve been friends with her for a really long time and she’s a great resource for esoteric knowledge. She’s also an actress who has done plays and commercials and been in films, so I figured she’d be the perfect person to deliver dialogue in an emotionally deep way, and be good at taking direction. Ray Suhy from SIX FEET UNDER rips the guitar solo in ‘Barren’ and that solo is its own masterpiece, in my opinion. BLACK CROWN INITIATE and former TOMBS live guitarist Andy Thomas contributed a guitar solo in ‘Void Constellation.’ Todd Stern from PSYCROPTIC plays the solo in ‘Mortem.’ Sera Timms from IDES OF GEMINI  and BLACK MATH HORSEMAN does guest vocals on ‘Secrets of the Black Sun.’ We’ve got INTEGRITY’s Dwid Hellion singing the chorus on ‘The Hunger’ and BLACK ANVIL’s Paul Delaney also doing a couple of verses on ‘Angel of Darkness.’ So, yeah, there are a bunch of people on there and it’s like a community effort which I enjoy. I like involving people I respect and having them be a part of the whole thing.”

After spending his entire adult life navigating the pitfalls and pratfalls of the industry for expressive and creative opportunity, Hill has amassed an impressive legacy, one that 'Under Sullen Skies' contributes to admirably and irreverently. Like most, the extreme music underground lifer and veteran is probably justified in approaching the future with very muted optimism, but while the world works at screwing its head back on straight, Hill is going to do what he wants to do as well as he possibly can. Uncertainty may reign at the moment, but Hill and TOMBS are still going to do their thing and will be content to please themselves in the process. If anyone else happens to be along for the ride, then welcome aboard.

“'Under Sullen Skies' is a dark and introspective album,” he asserts. “It’s not a happy record that anyone is going to use to get pumped up on a Friday night. We wanted to pull out the stops, go full-on and make a nice body of work. I could care less if anyone likes the band or not because I’ve been through so many ups and downs with this thing that I don’t give a fuck if people enjoy the music. I know I like it, I know the guys in the band like it and we’re just rocking and rolling. This record and the EP came out about as close as I could imagine to what I have in my brain about how this band should sound. The whole trajectory of the band has had each record never quite hitting, but 'Monarchy of Shadows' and 'Under Sullen Skies' have both really come out how I envisioned the songs to be.”

CAVO Releases Their Single/Video "MUSCLE MEMORY" with TLG Entertainment/INgrooves

Listen to "Muscle Memory" available now at all digital streaming platforms. CAVO - Muscle Memory Music and lyrics for the song "Muscle Memory" were written b...

Cavo is back with their hard rock sound found in their single/video "Muscle Memory". Fans have been anxiously awaiting for Cavo's latest track. For over a year, Cavo has been self-releasing songs like “Wreck Me,” "What Does It Feel Like,” and "Without You.” “Wolves” (the last song released prior to "Muscle Memory") landed on St. Louis rock mainstay 105.7 The Point rotation. Now with their sites focused on this current single/video for "Muscle Memory" and working with TLG Entertainment/INgrooves, Cavo has carved out their path towards a new album, Under Bridges, Bright Nights and Thieves, coming in 2021, which will feature "Muscle Memory".

"Muscle Memory" without question shows Cavo has learned and implemented their own defining direction and are standing strong in the realm of hard rock.

"Muscle Memory" comes from a place of the band being tired of being in a box. It’s our way of “not playing by the rules” that people outside of the band had set for us. We had to step back and look at ourselves for the answers and drown out all the noise pollution."' - Casey Walker of Cavo

Produced by Rich Criebaum and CAVO at Trailer Studios.

Directed by J.T. Ibanez (POD, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Picturesque, Smile Empty Soul)

Andy Herrin – Drums

Chris Hobbs – Guitars

Brian Smith – Bass

Casey Walker - Vocals

Mark Twain famously said, “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” The same could be said for St. Louis

rock band, Cavo.

Rumors always fly in the music world about bands breaking up, reforming, and then breaking up again. And in some cases those rumors are true, but most of the time they aren’t. In the case of Cavo, the members will tell you for themselves that their bond is as strong now as it was back in 2008, when their first single, “Champagne,” became a rock anthem. So not only are the rumors of Cavo disbanding completely inaccurate, but they’re completely backward!

In fact, the band is currently releasing previously unused recordings of songs written and recorded from 2008-2016, including material from the ‘Bright Nights Dark Days’, ‘Thick As Thieves,’ and ‘Bridges’ sessions. Since 2019, the members of Cavo have self-released songs like “Wreck Me,” "What Does It Feel Like,” Without You,” and “Wolves,” the last of which made it to power rotation on St. Louis rock mainstay 105.7 The Point. Now for the upcoming releases of additional tracks like “Muscle Memory,” “Lead On,” and others, Cavo has teamed up with independent distributor The Label Group (TLG Entertainment) to expose all of these previously unreleased songs to a broader global audience. On top of all of that, the boys are back to writing and recording new material and plan to have a full release of brand new music in 2021!

“The great thing about the four of us in Cavo is that we’ve always been fully committed to this band,” explains bassist Brian Smith. “Even if we haven’t been in a spotlight for a bit and we have other projects going on, our bond is as tight as ever, and we’ve never stopped releasing music. We love writing together, playing together and just being together as friends, and that’s why we’ve been able to keep going together as long as we have.” Drummer Andy Herrin adds, “We’ve been sitting on a ton of previously unreleased stuff that Casey, Chris, Brian, and I truly love, so we thought it was time to start putting it out for our fans to hear. The response has been so

overwhelmingly positive, and we can’t thank the fans enough for continuing to support the band!”

Up next for Cavo is the release of “Muscle Memory” in October 2020, followed by the release of “Lead On,” currently scheduled for November, 2020. So, to answer the burning question, “Has Cavo broken up?” The answer is a simple one. “Not on your life!”

Thank you to those who may have influenced or worked with - Thanks to Daughtry, Evanescence, Shinedown, Rev Theory, Chevelle Halestorm Sick Puppies Adelita’s Way, Veer Union, Theory of A Dead Man, Framing Hanley and all the other bands we’ve toured with over the years.  - Cavo

The album will be produced ,mixed and mastered by Justin Davis of American Music out of Seattle, Washington. Justin is known for his amazing work with Lullwater’s most recent album.

On October 2nd of 2020 the band released “War Cry”, a song about overcoming anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts during difficult times. It will be released independently. Early listening by blogs and radio stations have already given it stellar reviews.

kurt.riley+praxis Releases Gothic Cyberpunk Single & Darkly Futuristic Music Video, "Free"!

kurtriley #free #cyberpunk The fourth chapter of the Chrome Empire; a vision of the future brought to you by kurt.riley+praxis. Song begins at 0:35. Limited...

October 20, 2020 - New York based Metapop band kurt.riley+praxis has released the official music video for their darkly synth pop infused new single, "Free." The fourth track from their upcoming, science fiction themed opus, Chrome Empire, "Free" was preceded by the releases "FTR SHK," "Say You Love Me," and "Evergreen." Using the story of an android that has gained self-awareness, the Chrome Empire album addresses topics such as climate change, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality by way of a sci-fi narrative and hook-laden songwriting.

“’Free’ is my attempt to encapsulate what it feels like to be born on the morning after Fukuyama’s ‘end of history’ – in the afterglow of the Cold War, born during the consumerist apex of the Nineties in the West…watching the towers fall on television…receiving a bleak inheritance of climate change, irrevocable student loan debt, social inequality, and increasing totalitarianism. Feeling trapped amidst the end of empire, within circumstances one feels helpless to control or improve. Even that last inch – the toaster, TV, and steel-belted radials of Howard Beale’s – even that isn’t left to us, as a mid-century, middle-class existence simply becomes too expensive for all but the upper echelons of society. And so many of us are too exhausted to be mad as hell anymore. We’re just heartbroken.” - kurt.riley+praxis

Riley’s colorful career includes records produced by Beyoncé/FKA Twigs/Run The Jewels collaborator BOOTS and Grammy Award-winning engineer Will Russell. He has performed at events across New York, including the Ithaca Festival, the CFCU Summer Concert SeriesMusic Is Art Buffalo, and at The Center for the Arts of Homer.

It's a song about the dark, but also about rebirth and learning to love and accept yourself. I hope it can connect with some of you that are going through your own personal battles."

ABOUT BLACK FOXXES:

Over the course of two albums (2016's I'm Not Well and 2018's Reidi), Black Foxxes main man Mark Holley established his band as a potent creative force, carving out a signature spot on the emotive rock 'n' roll map backed by strong, growing support from fans and media alike.

With singles/videos such as "Husk," "I'm Not Well," "JOY," and "Manic In Me,"  the clip for which was filmed in Iceland, a key source of influence for Album 2, it became increasingly clear that Holley is an artist prepared to shed protective layers — an artist with plenty to say and a particular way of tapping into thoughts, feelings and fears.

And now, with Album 3, the Bristol-based singer/songwriter/guitarist has done even more to bind music and personal message into a cohesive body of work — nine compelling tracks recorded quickly with a brand new rhythm section (drummer Finn McClean and bassist Jack Henley, a longstanding friend), plus a trusted team member in producer/mixer Ade Bushby, who helmed the desk on both previous outings.

From the very start, the intention was to keep instinct, musical integrity and the chemistry between the players right at the fore, with no second-guessing of the market and no attempt to stem or to edit the musical flow —a flow that takes in synths, distorted vocals plus a battery of left-field sounds (inspired by Bristol’s alternative DIY culture), along with a broader range of lyrical subject matter.

After 18 months spent searching for that "magic sweet spot," this is Black Foxxes in the raw, unfiltered, unfussed with.

No rules, no labels, all on the line.

UK quintet EMPLOYED TO SERVE have released the video for their absolutely vicious new single "Party's Over."

Watch the video here.

Employed to Serve know no way to go other than hard. Therefore, the message of "Party's Over" is equally as hard-hitting.

"'Party's Over' is about the fast decay of the unsustainable world we live in," says singer Justine Jones. "Frustratingly, despite our best efforts, the quest for a sustainable way of living feels hopeless due to what humanity deems a birthright rather than a luxury. What we think we need in order to live just does not seem compatible with our ecosystem, making me feel like we're aliens that have taken the planet hostage."

"Party's Over" will be available on red and blue 7" vinyl — limited to only 500 copies and never to be repressed. The 7" includes a re-worked version of "Harsh Truth," which features Stray From the Path's Drew Dijorio.

Pre-orders, including exclusive t-shirt designs, are here.

7" INCH TRACK LISTING:

"Party's Over"

"Harsh Truth (Relived)"

Employed to Serve released their third album Eternal Forward Motion in 2019. It received critical acclaim from The Guardian, Revolver, and more.

BRKN LOVE SHARE NEW SONG "CRUSH"

Image 10-20-20 at 4.43 PM (1).JPG

DELUXE EDITION OF SELF-TITLED DEBUT OUT NOVEMBER 19

BRKN LOVE, the brainchild of Toronto native Justin Benlolo, released their self-titled debut album earlier this year via Spinefarm Records. On November 19, the band will release a deluxe edition of the record, featuring four newly recorded tracks.

Today, the band shared the song "Crush." Listen here.

"We've all had a crush before — whether it be on a particular person, an inanimate object, or in this song's case, illicit drugs," says Benlolo, sharing insight into the song's weighty subject matter. "I knew this person back in high school and I guess you could say they were the first junkie I ever met. I was struck by their everyday life — constant back and forth of relapse and resolve. The song is written from the perspective of this person and how I saw them deal with their struggles. It's a serious subject matter, and as a band, we all hope that we can help anybody who is struggling with addiction of any kind. The song is meant to shed some more light on the many problems teenagers and young adults face."

Previously, BRKN LOVE shared their cover of Bishop Briggs' "River."

The album, produced by Joel Hamilton (Highly Suspect, Pretty Lights), was recorded live to tape, preserving a raw and real feeling in the riffing tempered by relatable and emotional lyrics.

The deluxe version of BRKN LOVE is available for pre-order here

CRYPTODIRA RELEASES NEW SONG, MUSIC VIDEO FOR "A TENDENCY TO FALL."

"A Tendency to Fall" from the new LP 'The Angel of History' - available everywhere on 12/4/2020 via Good Fight Music. Stream, Download, and buy exclusive mer...

ALL-NEW LP, THE ANGEL OF HISTORY, DUE
OUT DECEMBER 4, 2020 VIA GOOD FIGHT MUSIC

October 16, 2020 -- Cryptodira has released a new track and music video today titled "A Tendency to Fall" along with further details on their all-new LP The Angel Of History, due out on December 4, 2020, via Good Fight Music. Pre-orders are available now, and can be seen here. Directed by Anthony Altamura, this is the first music video we're seeing from the band from their new full length.

The new full-length news arrives only a few weeks after the band announced their EP Better Left UnsaidThe Angel Of History is the followup to The Devil's Despair released in 2017, which received critical acclaim. Heavy Blog is Heavy stated that the LP is the band's "contribution to the ongoing answer for the progressive metal conundrum. It shows that there's still reason and life in the genre, that in its sometimes over the top and too self-serious highs and lows, there are still interesting ideas and powerful emotions to be manifested."

The Angel Of History was recorded in January 2020 at The Basement Studios in Winston-Salem, NC, and produced by Jamie King and Cryptodira. The band weighs in below.

"Conceptually, this album comes from a place of suspicion towards several trends within postmodern (and contemporary) philosophy. Philosophy has developed an allergy to its driving force--i.e., collective action marching under the banners of liberation and ameliorating oppressed and exploited people. While 'The Angel of History' is not explicitly a work of philosophy, it is still intended to criticize these trends, especially their collaboration with individualism. As an ideology today, identity (whether rugged or nihilistic) has us steeped in depression, substance abuse, and suicide. A call for more historical and class-conscious forms of social being is made against the ideology of individualism. On the other hand, there are trends within postmodern thought that have labored to deconstruct this ideology (particularly queer, feminist, and post-colonial theories). So they are given space to update Walter Benjamin's image of the angel of history into the 21st century." - Matthew Taibi, on the concepts behind The Angel of History

"A climate catastrophe is not a distant reality. We are currently living through it, and we cannot rely on 'business as usual' to deliver us from this reality. Of course, there is a personal responsibility for each of us living in central economies: waste less, recycle more whenever possible, etc. However, this overly individualistic focus loses sight that only 100 corporations contribute 71% of global emissions. And the individuals who have the most to lose from this crisis tend to come from the most vulnerable, most oppressed, and most exploited among us. Rosa Luxemburg's adage 'socialism or barbarism' no longer captures the entire severity of the path before us--today, it is socialism or hellfire." -Matthew Taibi, on the concept/video behind the song "A Tendency to Fall."

"Our writing process gets a bit more refined with every song we write. I tend to write more traditionally with a guitar, notepad & recorder. At the same time, Matthew utilizes computer programs more, but they both seem to come together in similar ways, with the whole band working out fine details literally up to the minute that it is recorded. We are continually changing and tweaking."

"I can be inspired by art that I love and the art that I hate. Some of the songs I wrote for this record were a mixture of both. Outside of those inspirations, I was also riding the emotions that came with the two-year health battle that my dad, who was my best friend and single most significant influence, had leading up to his departure from this life last April. Lyrically this record doesn't reflect that, but sonically you can hear my sadness, anger, hope, and a lot more. It's safe to say I'll always carry that with me, and it'll affect the way I write forever." - Mike Monaco, on the writing process and journey of creating The Angel of History

"While we were writing 'The Angel of History,' Jamie King's name came up on a shortlist of people that we trusted to capture the essence of the music and give us the space we needed to make the best record we could. We all agreed that he was the perfect person to work with and would understand our band better than anybody else with almost no discussion. He has produced some of our favorite records of all time, so it was a dream come true to create in the same space that those timeless records were made in." - Scott Acquavella, on working with producer Jamie King

Decibel Books Announces USBM: A Revolution of Identity in American Black Metal!

USBM is an important and truly revealing adventure into U.S. black metal's inner-workings, for better or worse.” —Invisible Oranges

Over three years in the making, Decibel Books is proud to finally announce the publication of USBM: A Revolution of Identity in American Black Metal. In parallel with the blazing European scene of the 1990s, the American wasteland birthed its own wayward souls who found their own uses for blast beats, tremolo picking, ghoulish shrieks and satanic leanings. Over the span of 30 years, Americans have clung to black metal’s core tenets and cast them off in equal measure, always in search of a sound that could give voice to our uniquely predatory demons.

This new 544-page hardcover book chronicles the stateside movement via first-hand accounts from genre progenitors VonProfanatica and Absu through revolutionary acts like LeviathanWeakling and Xasthur to present day progressives PanopticonDeafheaven and Wolves in the Throne Room along with dozens more black metal musicians. Including hundreds of rare and never-before-seen photos and a special foreword from extreme metal godfather Tom Gabriel Warrior (Hellhammer/Celtic Frost), USBM is a thorough and definitive tome from longtime Decibel contributor Daniel Lake and is available for pre-order exclusively through Decibel NOW

Intervals Debut Intricate New Single “Lock & Key” New Album Circadian Due Out November 13th

LISTEN: “Lock & Key”

PREORDER: Circadian

Today, torchbearers of progressive, instrumental rock, Intervals, have shared “Lock & Key”, the latest single from the band’s highly anticipated full-length, Circadian, due out November 13th. On “Lock & Key”, Intervals continue to push the genre’s boundaries, as well as their own - mixing Aaron Marshall’s command of technical intricacies and meticulous compositions with earworm hooks that are as memorable as they are dizzying. “Lock & Key” finds Marshall collaborating with fellow guitarist, Josh De La Victoria, creating an impressive synergy between the dueling guitar leads. This unbelievable creative chemistry serves as the inspiration for the track title, as the two pieces fit perfectly like a jigsaw puzzle.

“Lock & Key” follows the widely praised lead single “5-HTP” that was first revealed in the short documentary about the making of the album, Co-produced by Marshall and fellow Torontonian, Sam Guaiana (Silverstein, Obey The Brave, Like Pacific), Circadian, is available for pre-order here

Quote from Aaron Marshall (Intervals):
"Lock & Key is one of my favourite tunes from the new record and I'm so happy to feature my pal and extremely talented artist, Joshua De La Victoria. When this track started to take shape, I knew right away that I wanted to feature Josh. Initially, the idea was just to trade solos and have a sort of "guitar duel", which you typically see more in a live environment, so I was really into the idea of capturing this on record. Once we started to work through various ideas, I realized that there was a little more room for Josh to contribute and round out the composition. I wound up asking him to respond to my initial call in the verses, and bringing in the bridge section before the solo unfolds. The response to 5-HTP over the past few weeks has been incredible, and I'm so excited to show everyone more of this record!"

About Intervals

Through the progressive, instrumental rock project, Intervals, Aaron Marshall has long been considered an innovator. He’s built a career on trusting his instincts, even when that intuition has led him down a road that is decidedly less traveled. That may mean tearing down genre norms, finding creative ways to interact with fans, or a commitment to self-releasing music even when label opportunities are readily available to him. Marshall has bet on himself continuously, and backed that gamble up with hard work, unparalleled creativity, and an uncompromising desire to make each Intervals release a pivotal moment in the lineage of instrumental rock. On Intervals’ latest record, Circadian, Marshall continues to push the limit at every turn, resulting in arguably the most dynamic record in the band’s highly-revered catalog.

OC metalcore mainstays ATREYU have shared the video for the new song "Save Us," which was produced by John Feldmann.

"'Save Us' is not only a reflection of where we are musically, but also a mirror to the world in this ominous moment in time," the band says. "We chose to pair the powerful message with one of the heavier songs we've ever written. This song feels like the anthem that we all need right now. To us, it's a call to action to light the fire in ourselves. We can begin to make great change — but only if we look inside first."

With singer Alex Varkatzas recently departing, drummer and clean vocalist Brandon Saller will move into the frontman role. Guitarist Porter McKnight is now handling the harsh vocals, while Kyle Rosa joins the ranks as drummer.

Atreyu are working on their eighth album, which will be released via Spinefarm Records. "Save Us" will appear on the record.

AVIATIONS Announce 'Retrospect' EP - Out November 20th Band Releases Video for "Nineties Nine Ties"

Follow us on Spotify: http://bit.ly/followAV | aviations.bandcamp.com Aviations performs a newly recorded performance of Nineties Nine Ties from their debut ...

Six-piece progressive metal outfit AVIATIONS are proud to announce that they will release a new EP which will see the group re-visit songs from earlier in their career. The new studio release, titled 'Retrospect', will see a November 20th release and will be available to pre-order through the group's official Bandcamp. Speaking about what led the band to record 'Retospect'Aviations lead vocalist Adam Benjamin states,

Retrospect is our first formal release as a complete lineup that has toured and performed this music live. Since forming the band and releasing a debut in 2012 as teenagers, we wanted to revisit some tracks to see what we could do in 2020.

Everyone in the band has put their stamp on these songs in their own way, and we thought this would be the best precursor to all the new music we have written to release in 2021. In the meantime, we didn’t want fans waiting too long between releases. Enjoy!”

With the release of 'Retrospect' already less than 40 days away, Aviations will be releasing a slew of video content to hype the record. The first such offering is the playthrough video for "Nineties Nine Ties".

AVIATIONS is a progressive “cozy” metal band from Boston, MA. The group started as a passion project in 2011 by James Knoerl (Drums) and Sam Harchik (Guitar) while attending Berklee College of Music. Vocalist Adam Benjamin was introduced in 2012 and the group began work on a full-length debut. After releasing a “A Declaration of Sound” on Oct 13th, 2012 and making a few adjustments to the line-up, the band continued work on their next release.

2016 finally saw a complete concept to announce “The Light Years” as the official title of the band’s sophomore album, with the first instrumental single “Dizziness Explained” released on Sept. 16th, 2016. The album was completed and released in 2018 due to members moving to different areas of the country to pursue full-time careers. As a DIY release, despite not budgeting or planning vastly expansive promotion, the record landed in the reddit.com/r/progemetal top 10 albums of the year.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the band’s hustle shifted to recording content and writing a third album which is planned for release in 2021. Before that, AVIATIONS revisited their debut album to re-track classic tracks “Outliers,” and “Nineties Nine Ties” for an EP which is scheduled for release on November 20th, 2020. With themes revolving around “holding on to your hope,” which is belted in the intro vocal line, the focus-single “Outliers” was filmed at keyboardist Richard Blumenthal’s house in Nashville, TN during quarantine.

GROUNDBREAKING, FAN-ORIENTED COMMUNITY FOUNDED BY THE BAND + POWERED BY PATREON

NEW ALBUM SLEEPS SOCIETY SET FOR RELEASE ON APRIL 16, 2021

Welcome to the Sleeps Society.

After 14 years as a band and in the ever-changing climate that is the music industry, we are embarking on a new chapter of our life as While She Sleeps.

Our goal is to create a sustainable model for artists and creatives, to break from the traditional industry mold by building and developing a true interdependence between the band & fans.

With the future of live performances uncertain, the Sleeps Society will enable a secure existence for WSS and gives us the opportunity to stay connected with our fanbase, developing new ways to provide for our supporters and fill the void left without live music. In these uncertain times, this is the difference between life and death for the future of WSS. We aren't prepared to be another band forced to give up simply because the system isn't designed to support the artist.

The idea behind the society was created after over a decade's experience of this rollercoaster ride that is the music industry. Having overcome mountains of hardship and financial debt, it feels important to share what we've learned along the way with those who are drawn to a similar path as ours. This model will provide a new route for upcoming artists and bands similar to us, using our knowledge and guidance to help achieve a realistic career in the creative industries.

The society will ask a membership fee, ranging in different tiers of support. These contributions directly fund the creation and survival of WSS. The cost will be repaid to the fans with a plethora of informative, exciting and engaging videos, as well as special events to get involved with and many exclusives to members. We'll be sharing full album guitar and drum play-throughs, a tutorial series for songwriting, studio production, vocal techniques, art and branding, self-management, videography, and much more. There'll be an in-depth look into making the forthcoming album and livestreamed studio sessions where members can help make decisions in the writing stages of songs. Members will get early access to tour tickets, exclusive merchandise, warehouse meet-ups, events, and secret 'members only' shows. And that's just scratching the surface of what we’ll be offering members through the Society.

Our aim is to deliver a 'too good to be true' level of rewards for the prices we are asking our supporters to pay, using our individual skills to develop and create entertaining and informative videos, tutorials, ideas and more for our members. This is us sharing our knowledge and experience in the hope that other artists can take this model and use it for their own.

With the monthly support of our fans, the band will be able to break free from the traditional music industry method of 'cash advances,' where artists are essentially borrowing large sums of money and giving up the rights to their songs, only to spend the years that follow in debt which oftentimes becomes insurmountable and crippling.

The Sleeps Society ensures a solid future for WSS and creates a new model of survival for artists and bands alike. We will be delivering the highest level of fan involvement and fostering a symbiotic relationship as the Sleeps Society becomes an integral part of Sleeps’ existence

—While She Sleeps

The founding of the Sleeps Society coincides with the announcement of the Sheffield metal band's fifth album, which will bear the same name. Sleeps Society is set for release April 16, 2021. The cinematic music video for its title track has just been revealed and its 'press conference'  intro lays out exactly where the band are coming from.

WHILE SHE SLEEPS ARE:

Australian guitarist and singer/songwriter Robert Gaylard brings a unique perspective and vision when it comes to creating music. His inspiration and passion for starting The Nomadic began early on as a child after traveling to many countries like Myanmar (formerly Burma), Singapore and the Solomon Islands. His “nomadic” lifestyle continued on into his adulthood when he began to work for the United Nations in various countries such as: Kenya, Somalia, the Sudan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Israel and Palestine. His travels eventually brought him to New York in September of 2012 and motivated him to pursue his songwriting by establishing an indie rock band.

In the year 2019, Rob took a one year leave of absence from the UN to follow his musical passion and focus specifically on songwriting and live performance. The Nomadic released its debut single “Drifting” in September of 2019, "Waiting" was released in April of 2020 and "Beyond Blue" in June. "Manhattan View" was released on June 29th. The band is set to release a series of songs including: “Grand Mistakes” and “Under a Georgia Sky.” Influenced by artists like Oasis, RadioheadThe VerveBruce SpringsteenPhosphorescentThe War on DrugsArizonaand The 1975, The Nomadic produces a sound genre like no other as alternative rock meets blues with hints of Americana and pop.

"Walk the Streets was one of the first songs I ever wrote and is one of my favorites! It's about reconciliation with a long lost friend or lover, about coming back together, even as friends, after a period of emotional turbulence. Inspired by a period of separation from a lover, the sentiment behind the song is "whatever you go through, whatever happens to us, I will always be there for you, will always have the time to set aside my life plans for a day, to walk the streets with you, in one of the great cities of the world. Even when you say you don't need me!!: "through winter's days, and summers rays, through daybreak's dawn, through winter's yawn..and you know.. that I will walk the streets with you." Originally written as a sad, meloncholic ballad, here we have musically given it an up tempo, alt country vibe, to contrast the sad sentiment with the upbeat character of the musical arrangement. I hope our fans will dig it!" says Rob.

Having been originally influenced by numerous cultures and ways of life, The Nomadic promotes and advocates for issues of social action and innovation, human rights, support for minorities, as well as doing the next right thing, including the idea that it is never too late, including for people to follow their dreams and passions.

MOLASSESS Streams New Album in Full

Molassess were beckoned to life as a commissioned performance for the 2019 edition of Roadburn Festival, five years after The Devil's Blood was laid to rest....

Dutch psychedelic rock formation MOLASSESS has partnered with Decibel Magazine to share the full stream of their debut full-length, 'Through the Hollow,' ahead of tomorrow's release! The record can be heard in its entirety

"Today we can finally truly let go. And celebrate with great pride and a sense of relief the sprouting of this seed!" comments MOLASSESS. "May it blossom and infinitely resonate, may it shake hard shells of human soul and feed our lust for creation once more. This germ of a journey is out of our hands and free to spread wherever it desires. Here’s to whatever it may become. Through The Hollow!"

Featuring four musicians from THE DEVIL'S BLOOD, MOLASSESS was formed upon being commissioned for a performance during the 2019 edition of Roadburn Festival. Yet, MOLASSESS is not a continuation of a buried past, nor a celebration of a cherished collaborator, but a culmination of heartache, requisite resolution, a rediscovery of rage and the relighting of a fire that never really burned out.

'Through the Hollow" can be pre-ordered HERE.

The cover artwork, which was created by Max Rivers, can be found below along with the tracklist.

MOLASSESS was beckoned to life as a commissioned performance for the 2019 edition of Roadburn Festival, five years after THE DEVIL’S BLOOD – a chaotic coterie of musical misfits lead by the efficacious guitarist Selim Lemouchi – ended their fever dance.

The invitation inspired new shoots of creativity to blossom where death had walked. THE DEVIL’S BLOOD’s supernal singer Farida Lemouchi formed new bonds with old cohorts Oeds Beydals, Job van de Zande, and Ron van Herpen (ASTROSONIQ), Bob Hogenelst (BIRTH OF JOY) and Matthijs Stronks (DONNERWETTER). Not a reunion, but a confirmation of deep binds and steadfast connections, much like the substance of their namesake – deep and all-consuming, and impossible to untangle.

Taking their name from the final song on Lemouchi’s solo EP ‘Earth Air Spirit Water’ – and tragically his last mortal offering before his death in 2014, the band is not a continuation of a buried past, nor a celebration of a cherished collaborator, but a culmination of heartache, requisite resolution, a rediscovery of rage and the relighting of a fire that never really burned out.

Recording the music of the Roadburn performance on a two-track single, MOLASSESS released ‘Mourning Haze / Drops Of Sunlight’ via Ván Records in 2019.  The circle was completed once more with the coming together of a tribe that had been torn apart but found their moment of re-connection: being together again, but also being something new.

Now, with the band’s first full length, MOLASSESS are setting out on a new path:

“Through The Hollow - She proudly carries forth seeds of the past, present and future and cuts loose entirely within the new sonic search of Molassess. An infinite search for personal and spiritual renewal, a remedy for reason and rationality. The state where earth and neither flow inseperable. The new light that follows the one great death.”
