GARMARNA Unveils New Album Details, Premieres First Single

Pushing the boundaries of traditional folk, "Ramunder" is the first single from the upcoming record 'Förbundet' by Swedish folk rock pioneers GARMARNA. More ...

Swedish folk rock pioneers GARMARNA will be releasing their highly-anticipated seventh studio album, 'Förbundet,' on November 6 via Season of Mist, making it the band's debut to the label. The band has premiered the first new single, "Ramunder,"

The visionary folk sounds of Sweden’s GARMARNA marry the past to the present on their captivating new album ‘Förbundet.’ ‘Förbundet’ (Swedish for connected) is an especially apt title as their songs, inspired by traditional Swedish folk music and Scandinavian ballads, are played by acoustic instruments but accented by a flourish of modern electronics (beats, loops and samples). The album, led by Emma Härdelin's spellbinding vocals and aided by the rich production of Christopher Juul (HEILUNG), see the Grammis (Swedish Grammy) winning group operating at the heights of their powers. GARMARNAhas persevered for nigh on four decades now, and ‘Förbundet’ further secures their legacy as one of the worldwide leaders of traditional Scandinavian folk music.

Pre-sales for 'Förbundet' are now live in the Season of Mist shop HERE

GARMARNA comments: “We have always gravitated towards gruesome and horrid tales. And in that regard 'Ramunder' easily takes the crown. The song tells the tale of a fierce warrior that ravages his enemies for (it seems) the sheer joy of it. This is of course reflected in the music with it’s relentless savage stomp, distorted basses and barb wired mora harps. The track contains a guest appearance by Anders Norudde from the groundbreaking Swedish folk band Hedningarna, that was an early inspiration during our formative years. We´re very happy to present this knuckle sandwich of a song as a first teaser of our forthcoming album Förbundet, to be released on November 6.”

The cover artwork of 'Förbundet' was created by Axel Torvenius and can be viewed below, together with the tracklist.

It is very easy to tout a band's eclecticism in our modern era of musical mash-ups and globe-spanning Zoom collaborations. But Swedish folk-rockers Garmarna have been turning traditional ideas on their head long before it was fashionable. Over the last 30 years, they been stirring in a rich blend of influences that create their unique sonic blend. For their efforts, they have won a Swedish Grammy award, gained the respect and collaboration of esteemed musicians in their homeland, and cultivated an international following.

On their seventh and latest studio album Förbundet, Garmarna continue blurring the traditional and the modern, with the often multi-tracked vocals of Emma Hardelin floating above it all. A ballad from the 1700s, “Ramunder” is imbued with heaviness, like an acoustic metal tune, with Anders Norudde from Hedningarna playing moraharpa (a cousin of the hurdy gurdy) on the song. Thumping drums and frenetic strings drive the moody “Sven i Rosengård,” while the danceable “Lussi Lilla” is more playful. On the flip side, acoustic ballad “Ur Världen Att Gå” and the dreamy vocal track “Din Grav” balance out the more propulsive tracks.

As with past efforts, the new Förbundet serves up traditional material infused with original ideas, with Garmarna looking to medieval and murder ballads and Estonian chorales for inspiration. It is certainly a dark album.

“There is more to the Swedish culture than this darkness,” notes co-founding member Stefan Brisland-Ferner. ”But the traditional stories have an edge to them that’s something special. There’s a harshness we just can’t resist. A feeling lurking in there that is beautiful, wild, and haunting. This new one is maybe the darkest yet, in that it deals so much with death, longing, sorrow.”

For Stefan, the most personal song on the new album is the tranquil, ethereal ”Vägskäl” which has been described as being about life's crossroads, grief, and losing someone, and also memories that are slowly erased or that can last a lifetime. ”It is the one completely original song on the album and the newest one,” he says. ”Both musically and lyrically, it resonates with a certain place in life I have found myself in.”

Garmarna originally formed as a trio in 1990 featuring guitarist/violinist Gotte Ringqvist, violinist/hurdy gurdy player Stefan Brisland-Ferner, and guitarist/bassist Rickard Westman. After a couple of years of growing their music and audience, they accured drummer Jens Hoglin after being asked to perform at a prominent musical festival in Autsfred, Sweden. Their friend, singer and violinist Emma Hardelin, was in the audience, and she soon joined their ranks. The line-up has remained solid since then.

After releasing their self-titled debut EP in 1993, Garmarna toured Sweden and began developing energetic live shows that in subsequent years have inspired everything from dancing to headbanging. Amid her bandmates, Emma became the calm of the storm onstage, her beautiful vocals an anchor for their energetic music.

”Emma has a very distinct and beautiful voice,” notes Stefan. ”The choices we made early on were traditional ballads that tell a story. The vocal is delivering information and can’t stand in the way of the story, and the instrumentation and arrangements must help to tell the story. The vocal will always be in the center of our music.”

By 1994, Garmarna signed a North American distribution deal with Minneapolis-based Omnium, the label founded by Boiled In Lead bassist Drew Miller who has a passion for eclectic world music and punk-folk tunes. Omnium released Vittrad (1994) and Gods Musicians (1995), and their sister label Northside unleashed Vengeance (1999) and Hildegard Von Bingen (2001). Now 25 years later, Garmarna is on Season of Mist, the international metal label that is starting to explore the dark folk world.

“We have certainly crossed a few boundaries,” acknowledges Stefan. ”We did so quite early and found our own world from which to expand further. Maybe this was luck. Or maybe we are good at finding the right balance between the elements. Again, this their something we ever strived for.” He adds that at one point, they found a certain tone in our music that resonated with the tones of their other tastes.

”The lyrical specter of the classical world,” he elaborates. ”The terror of industrial and black metal. Country music, indie pop, rock’n’roll. At the time, artists like Beck and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion had a great impact on our thinking. Björk, Skinny Puppy, Bowie, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, and lots of other artists from different genres were big heroes for us as well.”

What linked the band members together was their passion for traditional Swedish fiddler’s music and folk singing. ”We don’t think of music as genres but rather like emotions, colours, elements,” explains Stefan. Despite their sonic deviations, they have always felt they have a specific sound, and an American magazine in '99 compared Garmarna's music to a nicely marinated stew, a comparison they favored.

Cooking up this musical melange was not a conscious choice in the beginning. Their collective eclecticism naturally led the way for their folk fusion. ”Using samplers particularly was something that felt just aesthetically right,” says Stefan. ”We could use layers of drones and re-pitch stuff, use both old and new sounds that fitted the songs.”

Throughout their career, the band has taken many interesting journeys, including music inspired by the medieval work of Hildegard von Bingen and a New Year's Eve '99 performance in which Emma performed songs by Benny Andersson of ABBA. They have played at medieval, folk, and rock festivals. While the group did take a 15-year break from recording – family and work commitments, a little creative burn out after years of the tour/album/tour cycle, plus the illegal downloading woes of the early '00s factoring into this studio hiatus – they maintained their chops and passion by continuing to tour.

When asked about how fans have responded to their different influences and diverse output over the years, Stefan cannot definitively say because their followers are seemingly fluid in their tastes as well.

”Sometimes we’ve thought the audience will hate the new stuff, all jungle beats or house or pop or whatever,” he says. ”The audience is a mix of metal heads, folk enthusiasts, hipsters, and just casual music lovers of all ages. Along the way, they have seemed to like what we do! We know that a lot of people wished the return album 6 would have been a bit more traditional, but then a lot of people also praised it for being 'so much Garmarna' in the sense that it took an unexpected turn somewhere new.”

Their loyal acolytes should be pleased with Förbundet, and they will likely draw in new converts as well. You're next.

First Single and Official Video

Pestilence” Out Now

A tremendous wrecking ball to sweep everything around it!

For over a decade, WARFECT have brought their blackened thrash metal to the hordes. Now, four years after the release of their previous full-length, Scavengers, the Swedish thrash metal three-piece hailing from Uddevalla are even more forceful and have announced their furious new offering, Spectre Of Devastation, out November 13. After recently signing with Napalm Records, WARFECT are now taking the next step with their fourth album by unveiling a true thrash metal engine.

The Swedish artillery of WARFECT strikes in the tradition of Kreator, Legion Of The Damned and old school American thrash metal and paves its way with driving blasts and smashing drums. Straight away, the first notes of “Pestilence” state clearly that this wrecking machine neither cares much about any compromises nor has it come to take prisoners! Riffs as sharp as a razorblade sweep through the ears, while the brutal vocals of frontman Fredrik Wester cuts further whip lashes.

WARFECT on ”Pestilence”:

“It truly feels fantastic to unleash the first single and music video for the track "Pestilence" which is themed around the horrors of The Plague. The video was shot and directed by Mikael Martinsson at a castle ruin in our hometown of Uddevalla this summer. It's a fast thrashy song with a gripping mood setting chorus and a good representation of the album.”

Crushing Swedish metal with a modernized, yet classic thrash-inspired attack!

Founded in 2003, WARFECT is one of the most convincing yet underrated acts in the Swedish metal scene. Straight from the Gothenburg underground, the three-piece carries their full potential to the next level with their fourth studio album Spectre of Devastation

WARFECT states:

“We're thrilled to unveil the details of our upcoming album Spectre of Devastation! The album was recorded earlier this year with our own Fredrik Wester at the helm and Flemming Rasmussen doing the mastering. The cover artwork was masterfully done by Andreas Marschall and sets the mood of the album on the spot.”

Pre-Order the New Album Spectre Of Devastation HERE!

The thrash metal powerhouse pushes itself through spheres of pure heaviness directly into your core! Songs like “Left To Rot” mix a blackened attitude into the thrash outfit, while “Into The Fray” leads back to the origins of the genre by implementing fast screaming guitar tunes. The exceptional cover artwork is illustrated by leading German cover artwork designer Andreas Marschall, known for his work for bands like King Diamond, Kreator, Sodom, Obituary and Blind Guardian, to just name a few.

The eight songs of Spectre of Devastation convince with on-point production and the great mastering skills of Grammy winning producer Flemming Rasmussen, who burst onto the scene by working on Rainbow’s Difficult To Cure and Metallica’s all time genre classics Ride The Lightning, Masters Of Puppets and ...And Justice For All, before he won the Grammy for his work on the legendary song “One”.

Fredrik Wester – vocals & guitar

KONTINUUM Releases Stunning New Music Video for "Two Moons"

The official music video for the track 'Twoo Moons' which is taken from the bands latest album "No Need to Reason". Release Date: July 06th, 2018. ►Order her...

Icelandic ambient rockers KONTINUUM have shared a stunning new music video for the track "Two Moons," which is taken from 2018's 'No Need to Reason.'

The band comments: "Much like every other artist on the planet, we were faced with this new reality. Forced to think outside the box we decided to revisit this song from 'No Need To Reason,' which we always thought deserved a visual artistic expression."

'No Need to Reason' can be streamed, downloaded, and purchased HERE.

KONTINUUM have the rare ability to create dark music that at the same time comes with an embracing warmth and emotional appeal. The Icelanders’ forthcoming third album, 'No Need to Reason' continues the thread spun on previous full-length 'Kyrr', but expands the possibilities and range of the band's musical horizon.

Ambient, rock, wave influences and other stylistic sources of inspiration melt into a melancholic yet glittering masterpiece. Like the blue ice, black beaches and other spectacular landscapes of their North Atlantic home, 'No Need to Reason' keeps changing and shifting, while KONTINUUM seem to keep an underlying epic and mythical theme.

KONTINUUM were conceived with the declared aim to create hypnotic and spiritual musical noise in Reykjavik, Iceland in the year 2010. After sending demo tracks of their debut album 'Earth Blood Magic' to a few labels, a first deal was quickly struck. KONTINUUM wasted no time and entered SIGUR RÓS' Sundlaugin Studio in the town of Mosfellsbær close to the Icelandic capital to record their first full-length, which was released in 2012.

'Earth Blood Magic' received rave reviews across the board and was voted rock album of the year in Morgunblaðið, Iceland. KONTINUUM followed up on their quick success and played numerous shows in 2013, which established their reputation as a powerful live band.

KONTINUUM released the first single of their next album, entitled "I Huldusal", in 2014. This led to substantial radio play in Iceland and even topping the charts of the island's largest alternative rock radio station.

Their sophomore full-length, 'Kyrr' hit the stores in April 2015 alongside new single, "Breathe". Following the release of their second album, KONTINUUMembarked on two tours in Germany and performed at several festivals including the prestigious Roadburn Festival and Eurosonic Festival in the Netherlands, Germany's Summer Breeze, Icelandic Airwaves and Eistnaflug Festival at home as well as Lithuania's Devilstone Festival.

Now the Icelanders return with their amazing third album and the world firmly in their sight. 'No Need to Reason' is bound to turn KONTINUUM into a household name for friends of intelligent dark music. Press play, lean back, and enjoy!

New Zealand's speed metal overlords STÄLKER are returning with yet another lesson in raw and in-your-face heavy metal, breathing the spirit and danger of the glorious 80s.

Following 2019's globally acclaimed Powermad EP, the band's impatiently awaited second full-length album, Black Majik Terror, will be released on October 30, 2020 via Napalm Records.

Coinciding with the album's announcement and the pre-order, STÄLKER have also released the first single off Black Majik Terror, "Of Steel And Fire" - a track that immediately calls to mind epic anthems of tried and true heavy metal like Judas Priest's "Painkiller" but swiftly forges on its own path of blistering speed and precision that serves as an indicator of what is to come on the album. It becomes readily apparent that STÄLKER have not lost any of their magic and have quickly discarded the chains of the dreaded sophomore slump.

Commented the band: "Time to unshackle the first cut “Of Steel And Fire” from our new album, Black Majik Terror....

The album takes you through a near future hellscape where unseen evil entities have invaded this reality through human folly... prepare to die... tonight!!!"

About STÄLKER:

Formed in 2016 in New Zealand’s capital, Wellington, STÄLKER quickly gained attention in the global metal scene with the release of their blistering three-track demo, 2016’s Satanic Panic, which sold close to a thousand cassettes and 7" copies in the blink of an eye: a staggering feat for any metal band from the southern hemisphere. Shortly after, being signed to Napalm Records now, STÄLKER set out to drop jaws with their much-anticipated full-length debut, Shadow of the Sword. The high-powered release shines a light on metal’s true lifeblood while showcasing STÄLKER’s strong melodic voice, mixing primeval thrash, punk, and spandex-and-leather-clad 80s metal influences into a relentless sonic attack. Followed by relentless tours around the globe and the release of critically acclaimed Powermad EP in 2019, STÄLKER went back to the rehearsal room to craft what will be known as their preliminary magnum opus as 2020 marks the electrifying arrival of STÄLKER's newest offering, Black Majik Terror. The trio wasted no time in disproving the lurking presence of the dreaded sophomore slump. Now the band is back with more speed, more power, and most importantly, more riffs. Black Majik Terror is a cacophony of speed metal mayhem sure to enchant any and all freaks, from the nefarious hordes of metalheads to the street side mobs of low down rock n rollers. With primal energy fueling their assault, Daif, Nick, and Chris put on a truly adept performance as they riddle their fans with a hail of piercing tracks that will leave the world in putrid flames. Black Majik Terror is here, and it is here to raise hell.

Alborn Debut EP 'Impairative' Available 8.28.20 from Imagen Records

Alborn cover of Alice in Chains - We Die Young Visualizer Video Recorded, Mixed and Mastered: Ari Mihalopoulos at Inner Light Studios, Iowa City, IA Artwork:...

A message from Alborn

https://youtu.be/S3L65foaQM8

Alternative metal band, ALBORN, have signed a distribution deal with Imagen Records (ADA, Warner Music). Their debut EP Impairative will release on August 28, 2020.

"When the opportunity opened up for me to sign Alborn to Imagen, I jumped on it. I've known these guys for years and have worked closely with them. The songwriting is so unique to me. It's fresh and not predictable. I think people will get so much out of what this band has to say," says Imagen Records' A&R Representative Morgan Rose.

Imagen Records' President, Bob Winegard, adds, "I'm excited to have them on our roster and I can't wait until people hear their new music."

“ALBORN RULES!” is a common war cry heard at any Midwestern Alborn show. The band’s fanbase is strong, travels relentlessly and grows with every performance.

Formed in 2016, Northern Illinois based alternative metal band Alborn consists of Justin Taylor (guitar/vocals), Alex Raser (drums/vocals), Zame Lewis (bass) and Nate Guske (guitar). Their sound has been compared to Deftones or a heavier version of Alice in Chains, but make no mistake, Alborn has created something unique, hard and melodic.

As a startup, Alborn existed only as a cover band under the name of Alborn Theory, but that’s not who they wanted to be. “I was working 70+ hours a week and my band was playing 4 hour shows ALL the time,” says Justin. The band shortened the name to Alborn and got to work creating the band they always envisioned. The hard labor paid off and resulted in them winning multiple Battle of the Bands competitions. For one of those, the grand prize was a studio session with Jose Urquiza of the band 3 Years Hollow and The Attic Recording Studios. As part of that session, another opportunity surfaced. Morgan Rose of Sevendust heard the demos and expressed interest in producing them.

As a result, in late 2018, Alborn tracked 10 original songs with Morgan and Jose. “I was brought in to do some producing with Alborn and what grabbed my attention immediately was that they refused to conform to a formula. They wanted to be themselves from the start. It’s rare to find a band so young not wanting to follow an easy trend. I was impressed right out of the gate," says Morgan Rose.

After tracking those 10 songs, Alborn started playing every live show they could and the fanbase just kept growing. In late 2019 and early 2020, Alborn started making moves. The band played a weekend of shows with Sevendust including a Champaign, IL, sellout. They then followed that up with sold out shows with Buckcherry and Adelitas Way. The momentum was building and so was the chatter. So much so, Imagen Records was interested in signing them. Meetings with radio executives were scheduled in New York and then... Covid 19 put the plans on hold.

In August 2020, the plans are no longer on hold. The band inked a distribution deal with Imagen Records (ADA, Warner Music) and are releasing their debut EP, Impairative on August 28th. The EP contains 5 songs: 4 originals and one killer cover of Alice In Chains' "We Die Young." This is just the start for Alborn. It’s a matter of time before Covid 19 passes and you hear the war cry “ALBORN RULES!”at a live show near you.

The Belgian death metal stalwarts of CARNATION have shared the title track from their upcoming full-length, 'Where Death Lies." The record is due on September 18. "Where Death Lies"

Frontman Simon Duson comments: "Our third single for the upcoming 'Where Death Lies' album is none other than the title track. If you've been looking for thrashy hooks and groovy beats, look no further! This track is a fast one, but it switches gear right when the punishing chorus hits. It contains what we consider the catchiest chorus on the album, and we simply can't wait to start performing this one live. The lyric video was made by Aimed & Framed, and it showcases the beautiful artwork that master Juanjo Castellano has once again created for us."

Pre-orders for 'Where Death Lies' are now available in various formats HERE

Embrace the new death metal overlords and their second full length 'Where Death Lies'! CARNATION equals blistering and crushing death metal madness and, with this new chapter, return with relentless destruction and greater punishment than ever before.

Early 2013, guitar player Jonathan Verstrepen created the band to show his appreciation for the old school death metal legends from the ‘80s & early ‘90s. Vocalist Simon Duson, bass player Yarne Heylen, guitar player Bert Vervoort, and drummer Vincent Verstrepen were summoned to complete the band, and it didn’t take long until the chemistry between this quintet hit critical mass.

The Belgian’s first EP offering, entitled 'Cemetery of the Insane', was released upon the masses in 2015 . Tracks such as "Explosive Cadavers" or "The Rituals of Flesh" take you back in time to the better days of shredding riffs, neck-breaking drums, and skull-crushing guttural vocals.

The live rituals that followed were executed with stone cold merciless aggression. CARNATION delivered their bloodbath at select festivals across Europe during 2015 and 2016. Their next journey led them to distant Asia for their first tour across mainland Japan. This resulted in the infamous 'Live at Asakusa Deathfest' album, which saw the light in (2017).

These releases, combined with their reputation as a notoriously impressive live act, drew the attention of fans worldwide and provided CARNATION with the opportunity to perform at several European festivals and saw the band touring alongside PESTILENCE during their special Brazilian tour in April 2018. After signing with Season of Mist in 2018, CARNATION welcomed new and loyal audiences to death’s domain and invited them to witness them rise to their throne!

CARNATION rage on in 2019 with more spectacular live shows at 70.000 Tons of Metal, Alcatraz (BE) and Damnation Festival (UK), as part of their touring rampage throughout Japan and Europe (with PUNGENT STENCH and DESERTED FEAR), before entering the studio for the recordings of a brand new album. The mastering for the new offering was done by the mighty Jens Bogren (SEPULTURA, ENSLAVED, ARCH ENEMY) at the Fascination Street Studios in Örebro (SE).

With ‘Where Death Lies’ a new chapter of abhorrence now begins and opens up a hellish path to resurrection, reincarnation, and immortality. You wanted death? CARNATION is here with a superior appearance performing new rituals in service of ancient deities. All hail the new death metal overlords!

In the tongue-in-cheek video, the members of UNLEASH THE ARCHERS take part in a competitive footrace, but are met with unexpected twists along the way!

Frontwoman Brittney Slayes says about "Faster Than Light":

"Being that this song is about racing off into the far corners of space, we thought it would be a fun idea to actually race each other in the music video to see which one of us was truly 'Faster Than Light'! Of course we had to have some fun with it though, and added a little bit of excitement into the mix. Our director mentioned an older Stephen King novel called The Long Walk as inspiration for a way to spice up the video and we all agreed it would be hilarious! Check out the plot synopsis on Wikipedia if you haven't read it already... This track has turned into a favourite of the band and we knew it had to be a single the moment the finished product was in our hands. It's fast, fun, and is going to be an absolute blast to play live!"

“Abyss” (single) named one of Loudwire’s "20 Best Metal Songs of 2020 (So Far)"

Abyss is quickly becoming one of my favorites of 2020.”

- Vince Neilstein, MetalSucks

“Like a great entry in a film franchise, [Abyss] ups the ante on its predecessor’s ideas without sacrificing its core appeal.”

Decibel Magazine

“Canada’s finest must now be regarded as among the power metal elite. Abyss will swallow you up.”

Blabbermouth

"UNLEASH THE ARCHERS are an underrated gem in modern metal. Abyss should be the album that solidifies them as a household name…”

Metal Injection

"...Abyss is a mandatory listen for power metal obsesses and curious newcomers alike...

truly spectacular metal..."

Bandcamp

Thematically, UNLEASH THE ARCHERS' new album Abyss is the direct sequel to the band’s 2017 album Apex. Beginning with a dreamlike acoustic introduction accented by the smoky beckonings of singer Brittney Slayes, opener “Waking Dream” quickly punches into a colossal wall of sound, setting the stage for the auditory escape that is Abyss. Powerful anthems such as the immense power metal-encapsulated title track “Abyss” and metallic pop-tinged earworm “Through Stars” conjure classic elements while maintaining an entirely fresh, forward-thinking approach. Guitarists Andrew Kingsley and Grant Truesdell turn heads with wicked work on stellar tracks such as “Legacy” (fans of artists like Devin Townsend and Astronoid, take note), while Slayes showcases her incredible vocal diversity and range on mighty epics like “Return To Me” and “The Wind That Shapes The Land”. Drummer Scott Buchanan makes technical strides on burners “Soulbound” and “Faster Than Light” – setting breakneck twists and turns ablaze with his bandmates. UNLEASH THE ARCHERS rounds the edge of Abyss with throwback-hued “Carry The Flame”, and wraps up with the soaring, rewarding concept closer “Afterlife”.

Abyss was once again engineered, mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen of Hansen Studios in Denmark (Volbeat, Delain, Amaranthe), with production by guitarist Andrew Kingsley. Additionally, transcendent closer track “Afterlife” features orchestration contributions from Francesco Ferrini of Italian symphonic death metal machine Fleshgod ApocalypseFans will notice that, unlike on ApexAbyss incorporates a weighty dose of synth in the mix, and for the first time ever, all tracks were written on seven strings – adding to the massive expanse of the album’s sound as it explores the celestial realm.

Order Abyss in physical, digital and bundle formats HERE!

Abyss is available in digital and CD formats, as well as 2LP gatefold vinyl format in original black and limited edition sky blue (Napalm mailorder only, limited to 300 copies). A smashing live highlight to remember!

Icelandic Viking Metal giants SKÁLMÖLD will release their second live album and their first as solo band, 10 Year Anniversary - Live In Reykjavík, on September 25, 2020 via Napalm Records. Taken from this exciting ride through the band’s discography, SKÁLMÖLD have just unveiled a second single “Að hausti” (eng: In Autumn). With a catchy guitar riff and alternating vocal lines that exude the energy of SKÁLMÖLD’s smashing live performances, the song is an absolute stunner.

Originally released on their 2014 album, Með vættum, the Icelandic Vikings’ call for autumn always marks a highlight at every live show, no matter which time of the year it is. The band’s enthusiasm immediately spreads to fans from all over the world, animating them to bang their heads and raise their fists to the uplifting and catchy harmonies. Between 16 tracks in total, “Að hausti” is part of an unforgettable night to honor the achievements of the six full-blooded musicians so far. It was at this magic evening in Reykjavik, back in 2019, when SKÁLMÖLD recorded their new live album 10 Year Anniversary - Live In Reykjavík in front of the legendary sold out Gamla Bíó.

SKÁLMÖLD on “Að hausti”:

“We present to you “Að hausti” - the second single from our upcoming 10 Year Anniversarylive album. This song used to be an integral part of our set some years ago and it was super fun to re-visit “Að hausti” for our anniversary shows, very energetic song in a live setting and tends to get the people moving. We are really happy with how this one turned out. Oh, and please make sure to pre-order a copy of the album - you don't wanna miss out on this one.

Skál!”

10 Years of Pure Viking Spirit - Live On Stage in Reykjavik

Three consecutive sold-out shows at the Gamla Bíó in their hometown Reykjavik were the adequate setting to celebrate the 10th anniversary together with their devotees. 10 Year Anniversary - Live In Reykjavík transports the mythical atmosphere directly into their fan’s homes.

SKÁLMÖLD on 10 Year Anniversary – Live In Reykjavik:

“In late 2009 we started SKÁLMÖLD. Nothing serious. Was just supposed for the pure fun of meeting up once in a while to play some metal music. Fast forward 10 years and we are celebrating the release of 10 YEARS OF SKÁLMÖLD - Live in Reykjavík. Recorded in the heart of Iceland's capital at one of our 3 amazing sold out shows. Here is SKÁLMÖLD in its purest form - on stage, feeding on the energy of our beloved fans. We feel really proud and happy to present this to you. Enjoy!”

Pre-Order your copy of 10 Year Anniversary - Live In Reykjavík NOW!

Starting off with their chant-worthy song “Heima”SKÁLMÖLD had concert-goers screaming along from the first second. Quickly transforming into “Árás”, fans almost immediately got to see the wild side of the band which manifests in menacing vocals, fast riffs and protruding drums. SKÁLMÖLD classics, like the story of Loki's son, “Narfi”, and just how dangerous and manipulative Loki’s children truly are, were essential for the setlist. “Niðavellir”, the obscure home of the dwarves, tells the story of tombs and caves, underlined with propelling drums and heavy rhythms. This is pure Viking Spirit!

Beyond the Gates X 5 Days of Darkness in the Heart of Bergen August 3 - August 7, 2021

BLACK METAL IS COMING HOME – EMPEROR, MAYHEM and ENSLAVED team up for exclusive Grieghallen event

In 1994, extreme music changed forever when three pioneering Norwegian metal bands released their debut full-length albums - Mayhem’s De Mysteriis Dom SathanasEmperor’s In the Nightside Eclipse, and Enslaved’s Vikingligr Veldi. All three monumental albums were recorded in the legendary Grieghallen Studios in Bergen.

On August 7, 2021, black metal is coming home. For the first time in history, these three acts will team up for a very special concert in the spectacular confines of Grieghallen, where these highly influential classics were born.

«Grieghallen MCMXCIV» will see Emperor embrace three decades of imperial darkness, which was spearheaded by their Grieghallen legacy. Mayhem will perform their magnum opus, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas in its entirety. Enslaved will revisit their debut, Vikingligr Veldi.

Tickets are available HERE while the full festival lineup, which is headlined by MERCYFUL FATE, can be found below.

Never before has the public been given an opportunity to experience first-hand where the foundations of Norwegian Black Metal were laid, performed by the originators of it all.

Emperor’s Ihsahn and Samoth comment, “What we were lacking in experience back then were duly compensated by youthful courage and the urge to create something that was uncompromising and grandiose. Pytten saw all these counterpoints, and with his experience and unique way of listening, he managed to fulfill what we set out to achieve the best possible way. Even if we were teenagers at the time, he always took our musical vision seriously and facilitated extremely creative days and nights in the studio."

Adds Attila Csihar of Mayhem, “This is going to be an amazing event to do - almost 30 years after we recorded De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas in the very same hall in Grieghallen. The drums on the recording has this same acoustics and echoes of the big concert hall where they were recorded, thanks to Pytten, our producer’s genius ideas. I have many great memories of pure creativity while we were recording the vocals as well. E.g. that Euronymous ordered a huge gong, also a Moog synthizer to add to the soundscape, and Pytten was always happy to fulfill our craziest ideas. Like I recorded the vocals in a pitch-black room with only candles around to create the right atmosphere. The window of the control room was covered with curtains so no one could see what I was doing... actually I was doing magical movements and forming mudras, even headbanging and jumping around sometime in pure extasy. I will never forget those memories. And now I just can’t wait to be back there again and to play the same music alive. It’s going to be pure black magic - like our destiny!”

Enslaved’s Ivar Bjørnson says, “We are very proud to be part of Beyond the Gates 2021's celebration of ‘Grieghallen 1994’ - a very powerful location on the time/space-axis of the Enslaved-universe. Working with Pytten in Grieghallen for our debut album Vikingligr Veldi was a fulfillment of a very strong-willed plan for the young Enslaved. There was an air of innovation, of dedication, of creating our own path in the then rather small network of pioneer bands that were recording in and releasing material made in Grieghallen. We will bring to the table a full rendition of one of our very favorite albums from our catalogue (we are allowed to say that with 15 albums under the belt, by the way) - 1994, Grieghallen and Enslaved all come together Beneath The Hammer: Vikingligr Veldi."

In addition to the nostalgic excitement of the three artists, Beyond the Gatesand event organizer Torgrim Øyre lends this comment:

“We kind of have to pinch ourselves. To be able to experience these three groundbreaking artists together on one stage is just mind-blowing. Not only does Grieghallen bear a massive historical significance to the worldwide phenomenon that Norwegian Black Metal has become, but it is also one of the most revered concert venues in Scandinavia.

“You could easily say that with their debut albums Emperor, Mayhem and Enslaved paved way for three different directions within the genre. Emperor with their symphonic leanings, Mayhem leading the flag for orthodox black metal, while the early Enslaved offerings inspired bands with delving into Norse subject matters.

“With Mercyful Fate headlining the same venue Friday night, arguably the innovators of the black metal aesthetics, followed by Emperor, Mayhem and Enslaved, who took extreme music to new heights, this is just a combo almost too good to be true. We can’t wait for August 2021.”

SUPREME UNBEING has released their second message, “Animals”, which is available now on all digital outlets.

SUPREME UNBEING - ANIMALS Available now on Spotify and all digital outlets.

SUPREME UNBEING is a mysterious rock/metal band led by vocalist/prophet Zac Red who acts as the physical form of our collective consciousness, the ambient quantum entanglement of our most personal thoughts. After observing the world for some 30 years, Zac Red has set out on a quest with fellow prophets D. Vine, Unknown and Al Mytee to shed some light over our present existence through the medium of heavy riffs, astounding solos, and philosophically intriguing lyrics.

Labeling their songs as messages, each will cover certain areas of modern-day society. Following up the success of the band’s first message, “You’ll Never Make It”, the second message “Animals” dwells into the basic question, if there is any difference between man and animal, and how the conclusion to that question may change our perception of reality.

"Animals" was released to Active Rock Radio last week, where it debuted at #4 on the Billboard Active Rock Indicator most added, and #3 on the FOUNDATIONS secondary market most added.

Listen to the track on Spotify at http://tiny.cc/SU-ANIMALS

SUPREME UNBEING signed earlier this year with Megadeth’s David Ellefson’s EMP LABEL GROUP when a strange cassette tape arrived at the desk of EMP LABEL GROUP’S Thom Hazaert.

“I’m still not sure who the Hell they are, but people seem to like them.”

SUPREME UNBEING is set to release additional messages/singles “Solution” (Sept. 4th) and “Dreaming” (Oct. 2nd) prior to the release of the debut full-length LP Enter Reality which is set to release on 10102020 (October 10th 2020).

VOUS AUTRES Shares Music Video for New Song, "Onde"

French post black metal formation VOUS AUTRES will be releasing the full-length 'Sel de Pierre' on September 25 via Season of Mist Underground Activists! The band has shared a video for their brand new song, "Onde,"

'Sel de Pierre' can be pre-ordered HERE.

Only a year after the full-length debut record, the French black metal band VOUS AUTRES return with their second album. ‘Sel de Pierre’ represents a shimmer of hope among the vast, dark soundscapes that this modern post black metal duo creates.

VOUS AUTRES is a two-headed post metal / black metal band hailing from Nantes, France. As enigmatic as it gets, the duo creates a dark, ambient, and tormented sound, blended into the everlasting retrieval of what seems forever lost to human's inherent evil.

Formed in 2017, band members ₣ and β introduced the world to their experimental and modern take on black metal with the debut EP ‘Trente Pièces d’Argent’.

Two years later, the transcendental and epic sophomore record ‘Champ du Sang’ (2019) followed. Always summoning the darkest and most sublime melody, VOUS AUTRES battled with their demons through powerful riffs and breakdowns, sounding like the trample of the marching feet of a thousand-men army, ready to engage in a one-way fight against their enemy.

The French black metallers now return with ‘Sel de Pierre’, an album where a glimpse of light cracks into the gigantic wall of despair and melancholy VOUS AUTRES used to build.

As sharp and beautiful as a blooming black thistle, ‘Sel de Pierre’ summons wide panoramas of nature: from the crumpled lands to the menacing seas, taking the listener from place to place without ever revealing when and where this unique sound came from.

The journey through ‘Sel de Pierre’ is as intense as its predecessors. Only now, hope is summoned into a place where is has no apparent meaning, yet it has a reason to be.

VOUS AUTRES is not just another French blackened metal sensation you have to keep an eye on, but a quantum leap into the epic proportions modern black metal can take.

HINAYANA Releases Second Single, "In Sacred Delusion", Featuring Toni Toivonen of Hanging Garden

Pre-Order Death Of The Cosmic: https://smarturl.it/DeathOfTheCosmic

Death Of The Cosmic EP out Next Friday, August 28 via Napalm Records

Pre-Order HERE

Austin, Texas-based melodic death-doom metal unit HINAYANA recently announced the upcoming release of their crushing Death Of The Cosmic EP – set for release on August 28, 2020 via Napalm Records.

Today, HINAYANA are shadowing the reveal of the music video for their charging, melancholy first single “Cold Conception” (featuring trailblazing late Tengger Cavalry frontman and multi-instrumentalist Nature Ganganbaigal on Morin Khuur), with another new track – the massive, warning "In Sacred Delusion", featuring Toni Toivonen of Hanging Garden. The band has also launched a new lyric video to accent the riveting track.

Vocalist/guitarist Casey Hurd states about the track and working with Toni Toivonen:

“'In Sacred Delusion' is about the inevitability of our own self destruction. We are all in some way walking towards the flame of our own demise, both collectively as humans and individually as people. We are on a path that sometimes seems like we cannot stray from, eventually burning the world around us and giving into the hellscape we’ve made for ourselves. The song incorporates more of the band’s doomy side, with downtempo riffing and emotional passages topped off with the guttural vocals of Hanging Garden’s Toni Toivonen. It was a sort of surreal experience to be able to share a track with vocalist of a band which has inspired my own writing so much and that I’d listened to for so many years. Toni is a fantastic musician to work with and I know he’s been looking forward to seeing this track be released just as much we have, so this is a very special moment for all of us!”

Pre-Order Death Of The Cosmic EP HERE

HINAYANA started out as a one-man band spearheaded by frontman Casey Hurd, and subsequently released the crushing full-length Order Divine in 2018. Otherworldly and haunting while maintaining a crushing, colossal heaviness and peppered with undeniable groove, their latest release, the upcoming Death Of The Cosmic EP, emphasizes improved production and keen songwriting. Primarily self-produced by the band with mixing/drum recording from Kevin Butler and mastering by Swallow The Sun’s Juho Raiha, fans will also notice the new EP’s heightened concept in comparison to the band’s previous releases.

Opening title track “Death Of The Cosmic” sets off with optimistic ambience, quickly blasting into an ethereal universe of blazing leads and acoustic soundscapes capped by vocalist Casey Hurd’s deep, menacing growls. “Cold Conception” rushes in with melancholic energy before transforming into a dark, galloping anthem accented by the Morin Khuur stylings of late Tengger Cavalry mastermind Nature Ganganbaigal and a melting solo from Erik Shtaygrud. Mystic instrumental interlude “Yet Here I Wait Forever” showcases the dynamic, softer side of HINAYANA before picking back up with the stunning down-tempo gripper “In Sacred Delusion”, featuring a guest appearance from Toni Toivonen (Hanging Garden). Death Of The Cosmic closes with the sorrowful 5-minute epilogue "Pitch Black Noise" – not only proving HINAYANA's identifiable auditory trademark of melding tranquility and thunderous intensity, but also underlining the existential depth of their lyrical approach.

Casey Hurd says about the EP:

Death Of The Cosmic is based on the severed connection between ourselves and the cosmic, spiritual force in the universe and the loss of hope for the cold, modern world man has created in nature’s place. Sonically, we wanted to make something that was beautiful but crushing at the same time, demonstrated in the title track of this EP, which in concept might be viewed as a microcosm of the whole EP itself. Something we tried to do was stray away from some of the more cliché elements of melodic death metal and instead focus on what is the very root/core of HINAYANA and what gives the band its own sound.”

Death Of The Cosmic EP will be available in North America in the following formats:

- CD Digipak

- Digital EP

- 1 LP Gatefold Black

- 1 LP Gatefold Blue - Mailorder ONLY

- CD + Shirt Bundle – Mailorder ONLY

AUÐN Unveils New Album Details, Shares First Single

With their new album 'Vökudraumsins fangi', AUÐN explore new soundscapes and push their music to new heights, thereby setting themselves further apart from t...

Icelandic black metal formation AUÐN will be releasing the studio album 'Vökudraumsins fangi' on October 30 via Season of Mist! The album art and tracklist can be found below. In conjunction with the announcement, the band has shared "Eldborg," the first new single from the record. The song and accompanying music video, which was created by AUÐN's own Andri Björn Birgisson.

AUÐN commenst: "It is with great pleasure that we unveil the first track from 'Vökudraumsins fangi,' a track that embodies Iceland's furious awe and fear inducing pits of fire. These ever looming harbingers of destruction have countless faces, this is 'Eldborg.'"

Pre-orders are now live in the Season of Mist shop HERE.

As the country's vibrant black metal scene has proven, Iceland can be a beautiful and sinister place where furious elements rage teaching fear but also inspiring human creativity. Emphasizing melodies rather than dissonance and approaching their music from a dramatic, classical black metal angle, AUÐNdeliver another mesmerizing piece of art with ‘Vökudraumsins fangi’.

Hailing from the village of Hveragerði in the south of Iceland, AUÐN deliver haunting melodies and beautifully frozen atmospheres – as opposed to the jarring and caustic blunt force trauma that has brought this remote place in the Northern Atlantic to the black metal forefront.

Founded in 2010, AUÐN's talent was quick to be recognized. After the release of the self-titled debut, the band got invited to Iceland’s main metal event, the Eistnaflug Festival. They participated and won the local Wacken Metal Battle contest in 2016, while making it to the top three during the infamous Wacken Open Air festival itself. Shows at the prestigious Inferno and Roadburn festivals followed in 2017.

The second full-length, 'Farvegir Fyrndar' was released in November 2017, continuing the band’s fast ascent. Highly praised by the international metal press, the sophomore record reached back to a more classic second-generation black metal approach combined with a sense of elegance and melancholy that one can feel while dwelling among the bleak, extraordinary landscapes of the island.

The Icelanders embarked on European tours with label mates GAAHL’S WYRD in 2017 and THE GREAT OLD ONES (2017 and 2018) and captivated festival audiences at the biggest European fests, such as Copenhell, Summer Breeze Open Air, Eurosonic Noorderslag, Roskilde, Eindhoven Metal Meeting and more.

Returning with ‘Vökudraumsins fangi’, AUÐN explore new soundscapes and push their music to new heights, thereby setting themselves further apart from their Icelandic contemporaries. The six piece draws inspirations from their natural surroundings, but also chart the territory of the mind. The album title literally translates to ‘prisoner of the daydream’, but rather refers to a perpetual state of delusion of a life that never took place.

Join AUÐN while traversing the blurred lines between reality and the supernatural and the otherworldly sceneries of their native Iceland.

Style: Atmospheric black metal

AD INFINITUM Releases Official Video For “Fire And Ice”

Order "Chapter I : Monarchy": https://smarturl.it/ChapterIMonarchy AD INFINITUM on "Fire and Ice": 2020 started with its amount of disappointments. Our plans...

Watch the Special Virtual Concert Stream on October 9

Touring Dates For 2021

Symphonic metal fire-starters AD INFINITUM continue their triumphant march to conquer your mind! Today, the band emphasizes their magnificent mysticism by revealing an atmospheric music video for “Fire And Ice”, cut from their marvelous debut album, Chapter I: Monarchy. Plus, don’t miss the chance to discuss the video with AD INFINITUM themselves at 4pm CET via live chat on YouTube!

The video was taken from a very special concert in order to satiate the desire for dearly missed live performances, and even showcases some exclusive behind the scenes material. The full show will be available for streaming beginning October 9.

“Fire And Ice” marks another epos that represents the band’s diversity and passion for what love doing the most. The energetic and equally melodic tunes of the vigorous ballad perfectly illustrate the heart-wrenching tones of AD INFINITUM.

AD INFINITUM on “Fire And Ice”:

“2020 started with its amount of disappointments. Our plans got cancelled and we were very sad that we couldn’t present our debut album the way we initially wanted to. But in the end not being able to play live shows in front of an audience forced us to be more creative and to produce more content to share with the world! And that’s what we did. "Fire and Ice" is the first result of this work. Other surprises will come later this year including a complete live show on October 9th!”

AD INFINITUM presents a dark symphonic ceremony to ring in a new era!

With Chapter I: Monarchy, AD INFINITUM put a spell on the world and surge right into the heart of epic symphonic metal with full force. The spellbinding debut grabs your demons by the horns with an intoxicating symbiosis of boasting, energetic and uncompromising metal, set atop a rousing journey throughout history – escaping the Black Death and transporting you to another era.

Melissa Bonny’s multi-faceted vocals fill every fiber of the anthemic “Demons” — from powerful, fragile highs to deep growls, the track will send shivers down your spine while “Marching On Versailles” breaks in with thrashing drums and stormy guitar riffs. Charismatic singer Melissa Bonny, known from RAGE OF LIGHT and as the Queen of the Damned with the WARKINGS, casts a spell over her audience. Her finely differentiated spectra spanning crystal clear vocals and deep, vibrant growls emphasize the symphonic soundscapes with vigor.

Order Chapter I: Monarchy NOW!

AD INFINITUM states:

“We are very proud to present to you the first chapter of the band's history. We invite you to listen to it daily... You know what they say... Ad Infinitum everyday keeps the doctors away. Or does it?”

AD INFINITUM are:

The Wolves of VARG Release

Second Single “Auf Die Götter” (engl. To The Gods) and Official Video

New Album, Zeichen, to be Released on

September 18, 2020 | Pre-Order NOW

VARG return to the heritage of pure Pagan Metal!

Today, the wolves of VARG release their second pagan metal single “Auf die Götter” (engl. To The Gods), cut from the upcoming full-length, Zeichen, to be released on September 18 via Napalm Records. Along with an artful conceptualized official music video, the track relates to the Viking era and the tradition of worshipping miscellaneous gods, but also to the band’s past.

Shot in an ancient druid grove, the audio-visual embeds the music into the perfect surrounding and atmosphere. Freki’s cutting vocals merge with powerful guitar riffs and a melody that gets stuck in your head! VARG has never forgotten their pagan metal roots and this track marks their pure heritage as they return with full musical power!

Singer Freki states:

"We decided to release "Auf die Götter" (engl. To The Gods) as the second single, because it helps our fans to dive deeper into the concept of our new album Zeichen ( engl. signs). Before Christianisation, the Nordic mythology had a dominant impact on Viking culture. Gods as Odin, Thor, Loki and Freya embodied the center of belief. "Auf die Götter" refers to this ancient belief and to the traditions within. Join our journey into the fascinating world of the Vikings!"

The wolves of VARG set an uncompromising sign and

deliver their most furious work to date!

On their authentic masterpiece Zeichen, the wolves of VARG return to their roots and embark on a journey further down a new road. Within the first seconds of the album opener breaking loose, VARG draws the listener into the year “793” that heralded the ferocious era of the Vikings. In contrast, "Fara Til Ranar", including additional female vocals, is a melancholic, captivating saga about the Nordic sea goddess Rán, who pulls wandering sailors down into her wet grave. "Verräter", on the other hand, emphasizes the suffering and vengeance towards former allies with rapid guitar leads, and ultimately, the album culminates in the mighty title hymn “Zeichen”

In addition to the ten new tracks, the mediabook contains a bonus CD featuring alternate versions of each song the band recorded with renowned guest musicians from Eluveitie, Nachtblut and Equilibrium among others. Looking at the final opus, it's not surprising why VARG took four years after the publication of Das Ende Aller Lügen (which hit number 17 on the German charts) to regather their forces, and today, Zeichen shows that Freki, Fenrier, Morkai and Garm consciously took their time to realign their inner compass and are not afraid of musical and intellectual freedom.

Singer Freki states:

"In Norse mythology, the earth cleanses itself in fire and rises from the ashes - Zeichen is the rebirth of VARG. Based on our pagan metal roots, we have lyrically discarded all modern elements and simultaneously lifted vocals, melody and musical hardness to a whole new level. The path we walk on Zeichen is raw, pagan, authentic and completely dedicated to the Viking cult, runes and the old gods. Can you hear the murmuring? The runes have awakened!"

VARG are:

Freki - vocals, guitar

Fenrier - drums

Garm - rhythm guitar

Morkai - lead guitar

New Album out October 30, 2020

via Napalm Records | Pre-Order NOW!

“Oh life, oh barren wasteland

A wandering callous dream

We are rising and transcending

these dreamless gods, never-ending“

Today, DRACONIAN, the sovereigns of beautiful melancholic Gothic Doom Metal and far-reaching lyrics, release the third single, “The Sacrificial Flame”, off their upcoming album, Under A Godless Veil, out October 30, 2020 via Napalm Records.

The second epos on DRACONIAN’s new collection of hymns draws the listener deep into endless landscapes consisting of doomy guitars and heavy growls. The angelic voice of Singer Heike Langhans accompanies the opus like a nightingale flying through dark woods, haunting the last lines of shimmering light somewhere at the end of the horizon. Along with an artful conceptualized lyric video, “The Sacrificial Flame” guarantees a complete immersion into the band’s essence, making it hard to emerge from this vortex of emotions in the end as it’s quite more tempting to just stay there forever.

Heike Langhans on “The Sacrificial Flame”

“This is definitely one of the heaviest songs on the album and reminds me of all the old-school riffs and moody atmospheres that got me into Doom Metal in the first place. A dark and confrontational anthem that stirs me inside and silently demands answers from all that is Archonic in this world. Also one of my favorite vocal performances by Anders on the album.”

A haunting doom spirit covers the world underneath a melancholic, Godless Veil.

Under a Godless Veil delivers a captivating mélange of dreary doom and contrasting vocals and is the second offering featuring stunning singer Heike Langhans. The first notes of the opener will immediately draw the listener into a void of interweaving beauty, coalescing with paralyzing depression that leaves nothing but the desire of total immersion in the whole record. Under a Godless Veil carries the legacy of gothic doom metal à la My Dying Bride into a new decade of the genre.

DRACONIAN states:

“To DRACONIANUnder a Godless Veil is by far the most diverse album we have created. Inspired by some of the music closest to Johan’s heart; everything from traditional Doom to scaled-down, Gothic rock-inspired pieces and more. Some will perhaps describe the songs as more refined and meditative. Some ambient elements have been added to the mix without overshadowing the traditional characteristics that are DRACONIAN

Resonating with the compositions, Anders’s lyrical direction is ambiguous and a progression of the first two-three albums, yet more subtle while embracing the Gnostic philosophy more directly. One could say Under a Godless Veil is an act of contemplation; About living and dying and remembering who we are in a strange, abrasive world far from home.“

DRACONIAN is:

Anders Jacobsson - vocals

Heike Langhans - vocals

Johan Ericsson - guitar

Daniel Arvidsson - guitar

Jerry Torstensson - drums
