Three years since the release of their previous album, Apostasie, dark metal pioneers NACHTBLUT return with even more vigor and announce their new gloomy offering, Vanitas, out October 2 via Napalm Records.

The first single “Das Puppenhaus” (engl. the dollhouse) is reminiscent of scene giants such as Rammstein and draws the listener deep into the significant NACHTBLUT sound. Rhythmic guitars weave all throughout this smashing hymn while a steady rhythm underlines the honest lyrics.

The soft, harmonic, yet calm introduction may appear deceptive, but NACHTBLUT is by no means representing their song in a restrained manner. Askeroth’s dark voice effortlessly shifts between whispering growls and clean vocals while authentically smashing the listener’s ears.

"With "Das Puppenhaus“ we combined an issue that seems to be outdated, but actually is more up to date than you might think. The title of song sounds nice and harmonious, but if you see behind the curtain you will realize the omnipresent and claustrophobic atmosphere. With the dark video for "Das Puppenhaus“ we substantiate the songs prevailing mood and giving the metaphor we use a strong visual cue."

The new album Vanitas draws the listener into the band’s musical maelstrom in a classifying NACHTBLUT manner: hard riffs, Askeroth’s incisive vocals, rousing melodies and profound, candid lyrics.

Songs like “Die Toten vergessen nicht” (engl. the dead don’t forget) shine with an unmistakably dark and orchestral sound that will cause shivers to run down the listener’s spine, while the folk-influenced song “Leierkinder” (engl. children of the lyre) convinces with an addictive rhythms and moving lyrics. With Vanitas, dark metal giants NACHTBLUT create a symbolic work of art somewhere between transience and infinity.

"Three years after our last release, it feels great to be back with such a multifarious record. "Vanitas“ combines many elements, from melodic songs, electronic sounds to heavy, fast riffs. We merged those to one harmonious oeuvre and we more than happy and excited about the result. As the title reveals, the idea of transiency and mortality is major topic on this record and have been influenced by the Danse Macabre and the Vanitas still life paintings. But this did not limit us to not speak out about injustices and bringing up painful subjects, nor to be less contentious."

The Greek metal veterans of ROTTING CHRIST have shared the full 49-minute concert from their recent virtual performance as part of the European Metal Festival Alliance! The video was shot and recorded on July 6 at Artworks Studio

Moreover, ROTTING CHRIST has recently annonced their collaboration with the creators of the PS4 game "Mortal Shell," which featured the band's epic track "Χ Ξ Σ (666)" in the official trailer! The game is set for worldwide release on August 18. The trailer can be seen at THIS LOCATION.

It's not ROTTING CHRIST's first encounter with the gaming industry. Last month, the band was discovered on a poster in the game 'The Last of Us Part 2' along with label mates HORRENDOUS!

Moreover, following a triumphant return to the live stage back in July for the Long Beach festival in Macedonia, ROTTING CHRIST will be live streaming a performance this weekend (August 7-9) as part of the European Metal Festival Alliance virtual event! Trailblazing metal band TETRARCH has signed a worldwide deal with Napalm Records prior to the release of their sophomore full-length album, Unstable.

Legendary Swedish black metal formation MÖRK GRYNING will be releasing their first new album since 2005! ‘Hinsides Vrede’ is due on October 23 via Season of Mist, making it the band's debut to the label. The tracklist and album art can be found below.

Founding member Goth Gorgon comments: "'Fältherren' is for me the essence of what MÖRK GRYNING is. Dark and brutal yet melodic and dynamic. Lyrically it's based on 'The Field Marshal,' a song included in Modest Mussorgsky's song cycle 'Songs and dances of death.' A part of the (translated from Russian) original lyric should suffice to explain its meaning: 

"'Then, illuminated by moonlight, on her battle horse, shining with the whiteness of her bones, appeared Death; and in the silence, taking in moans and prayers, full of proud satisfaction, like a field marshal she circled around the place of battle.'"

After fifteen years of slumber, Swedish black metal cult MÖRK GRYNING have awakened to unleash their fury upon the masses with their deadly new album Hinsides Vrede. Translating into “otherworldly wrath” or “wrath of the world beyond,” Hinsides Vrede represents the impending doom of a world coming undone at its seams. The quintet temper their deathly assault with their signature melodic edge, and with recall the halcyon days of Swedish extremity. The comeback of MÖRK GRYNING is complete, and Hinsides Vrede opens up a deadly new chapter in their evolving legacy.

Founded in 1993 in Stockholm, MÖRK GRYNING were among the incipient purveyors of the melodic black and death metal scene. In May 1995, founding members Goth Gorgon and Draakh Khimera entered the Unisound Studios to record their now legendary debut album Tusen År Har Gått, produced by legend Dan Swanö (OPETH , DARK FUNERAL, DISSECTION , etc.) The haunting and melodic offering quickly gained attention among the cult of the underground, solidying their place among black metal’s clandestine elite.

The arrival of guitarist Avathar in 1999 further defined the band’s sound, adding further dimension with icy solos. The three-piece later traveled to famous Grieghallen Studios in Bergen, Norway to finish their third full-length, Maelstrom Chaos, which produced by Pytten (MAYHEM, BURZUM, EMPEROR).
 
In early 2003, MÖRK GRYNING entered the Dug Out Studio (MESHUGGAH, DEVIN TOWNSEND, IN FLAMES, DARK FUNERAL) with producers David Bergstrand and Örjan Örnkloo. Never shy to reinvent themselves, the aptly titled Pieces of Primal Expressionism reshaped the band entirely. The record put forth a daring grandiosity of dissonant harmony that had previously been unexplored in MÖRK GRYNING’s prior efforts.
 
By the time of the release of the band’s self-titled full-length in 2005, MÖRK GRYNING seemingly disbanded for good. Fans likely did not expect a second act after the band’s grand finale, however, the flames of chaos were reignited in 2017 when the band performed a rare and long-overdue anniversary set at Party San Open Air. Following appearances across Europe on the festival circuit, founding members Goth Gorgon, Draakh Kimera and Avatar reunited for real and MÖRK GRYNING signed a new deal with Season of Mist.
 
With Hinsides Vrede, MÖRK GRYNING have rediscovered the synergy they had while writing their legendary debut record and have returned to their foundations. Yet, by striving to reinvent themselves with every record, the long-awaited comeback of the band is by no means a reiteration of a glorious musical past, but is still certain to appease both old and new fans alike.

It was fun to include some industrial elements in the electronic section and also that tasty riff stacking with some rock-vibe going on throughout the song which is a bit different from our previous work. The music video from legendary Patric Ullaeus show the band in a gritty outdoor environment to underline the industrial feel and you might just get a cameo from someone you know in it.”

“We started to work on the follow up to And the Battle Royale by the end of 2018 after the tour was done. I think that particular album was a lot about figuring out the band’s new identity and writing together after boarding a new member and undeniably it was well received. Father Shadow is all about taking that experience, refining the process and push it to the next level. We have grown together solidly as a band and I think it shows a lot on this album. The songwriters in the band all comes from different schools and write a bit differently musically, on this album everyone got equal airtime just to pump the diversity without losing the feel of the band. Lyrically it pushes the story and concept forward and finally ties up some ends that have been loose since Fragile Immortality (2014), something I think the hardcore fans will appreciate. It was also fun to go back and revisit those old SONIC SYNDICATE tracks for the bonus material and I think we managed to do our own thing to honor the songs with a mint 2020 production. Utterly we created the songs and album we’d love to listen to ourselves and we succeeded with that and hope you’ll like it as much as we do!”

"Imagine you were a person on a spaceship, all by yourself for years, floating in deep space. You would feel the longing for human love, for someone to say your name out loud. How does it feel to be so lonely, to feel so detached from everything that makes us human? How does it feel to know that you will never feel that connection again? Human Love is a reflection on modern society on life happening on screens and on losing connection to reality.

Human Love was the final track that we recorded for our new album HOME on the last days in the studio. Writing this song was a tour de force. With all the expectations that built up for HOME, we wanted to finish the album as intentionally as we opened it with Stars. Human Love wraps up the message of the album beautifully by emphasizing that, to move forward, we need real human connection." 

German indie band KOJ share a strong common musical vision in addition to their roots as a family. The Hirsch Effekt share their new single "DEKLARATION" along with a music video. It's the fourth single from the band's 5th studio album KOLLAPS released in May 2020 via Long Branch Records. KOLLAPS encounters everyday madness with elaborate counterpoints and ludicrous lyric lines. In a heavier manner, the band slips into the roles of other, social actors to reflect the aspects of their agenda: a dispute with the systematic collapse is thematized from the perspective of the „Fridays For Future“-movement, depicted in a musical dainty or a bizarre way, then again also to corrode opposers in a strobe-like manner.

"Many of the riffs in "DEKLARATION" were written by Moritz. Funnily, all three members in the band have different opinions on how hard it's to master the playability of the song. The rhythmic pattern for the Meshuggah-esque part that can be heard shortly before the second chorus already existed already way back when writing „Eskapist“. It never made it on the album though. The lyrics were written partially in April of last year but only finished much later due to creative interruptions. Some of the lyrics had to be reformed and rewritten because of complications that came along with the usage of quotes and the rightful way of dealing with the subject."

After their last album Eskapist (2017), which charted #21 on the German album charts, and formidable show-offs at Wacken Open Air, Full Force Festival and as recent headliners at the renowned Euroblast Festival, The Hirsch Effekt have now spawned their new ogre. Musically, the trio from Hanover, Germany, has once again settled in the microcosm of progressive metal and enhanced their songs with their typical trademark of – at first glance totally out of the line – genre-hopping.

Similar as on previous records, it happens again by Hirsch-style chopping of parts and beats, that first off felt safe and usual. In between chorals resound, helping to find one's way back to a necessary recollection. On the one side it's a euphonious, on the other side a hurting listening experience that leads to a heightened perception of the exposure of the human disorientation, and serves as a call to the solitary consciousness of courageous individuals - to gather together at concerts.

Live, this symbolic demise is celebrated purification. This can be celebrated together with the fans at upcoming shows, by the way of indulging unison and clamor, questioning oneself whether the own heart and thoughts have gone prone to egoism or still are in line with the harmony of hope, that is hidden within Kollaps.

Thematically, Abyss is the direct sequel to the band’s 2017 album Apex. Beginning with a dreamlike acoustic introduction accented by the smoky beckonings of singer Brittney Slayes, opener “Waking Dream” quickly punches into a colossal wall of sound, setting the stage for the auditory escape that is Abyss. Powerful anthems such as the immense power metal-encapsulated title track “Abyss” and metallic pop-tinged earworm “Through Stars” conjure classic elements while maintaining an entirely fresh, forward-thinking approach. The song which is the closing track from the album Space Elevator II, features Freddie Mercury collaborator Mike Moran on piano, co-writer of the Barcelona album.

Citing Queen as a major influence on the band, lead singer The Duchess and guitarist David Young wrote the song in the style of Queen, which pays tribute to one of the greatest singers, songwriters and front men in the history of rock, Freddie Mercury.

As part of the social media campaign around the song, the band will post several video clips of Mike Moran discussing his time working with Freddie and sharing some anecdotes during an interview with The Duchess.

The video also features a cameo appearance from Mike.

Metal band Repentance has released their new single "God For A Day" off of their debut album also titled God For A Day due out September 25th via Art is War Records/Intercept Music.

Repentance came together in 2018 when Shaun Glass, a veteran guitarist of Broken Hope and Dirge Within, recruited Mike Sylvester on bass and began songwriting with lead guitarist Markus Johansson of the group Them. Robb Rivera of Nonpoint introduced Stuck Mojo front-man Robby J. Fonts and from there... Repentance was born.

“It came together very naturally, which was a very cleansing experience,” states Glass. “At this point in my life, I was hoping to start working and creating new music with an almost entirely new group of people and this crew organically locked into place.”

“It’s crazy how things happen,” comments Fonts. “I was looking to start a new band since Rich [Ward] and Frank [Fontsere] are currently busy outside of Stuck Mojo [touring with FOZZY], so the timing for Repentance came perfectly. One phone call later, we were stoked to get this show on the road. Shaun sent me demos, I wrote lyrics and vocals and our songs started coming 
together quickly.”

The band made their live stage debut by opening up for Trivium. Within their short time 
together the band would go on to share the stage with Devildriver, Jinjer, Skull Fist, Toxic Holocaust and Sacred Reich.

In October 2018 the band released their debut single, “Enter the Gallows" and by the end of the year, Kanky Lora, of Soulfly and Straight Line Stitch fame, would join the band on drums, thus solidifying this powerhouse line-up.

“The band’s sound is definitely very aggressive, pummeling metal and we can’t wait to share some music with everyone soon,” adds Glass. “Everyone is bringing their own style to the table and the uniqueness of each is helping to shape our sound. We’re creating a style that we enjoy ourselves first and foremost.”

In 2019, the band signed with Art is War Records and released the single, “Only the Damned Die Young” which was recorded at Electroworks Recording with Chuck Macack (Born of Osiris / Oceano) as well as mixed and mastered by engineer Chris Collier (Prong / Whitesnake).

“You know you’re onto something special when everyone connects instantly and the creativity keeps on flowing,” says Fonts. “I think fans of our previous work will be in for a pleasant surprise.”

Bringing the best of classic American thrash with elements of European-styled melodic death metal and a tinge of modern hardcore. This eclectic group of seasoned musicians is providing a straight punch to the face for your metal fix with their unrelenting brutality of Midwestern American metal.

Leaving no room for nonsense, the band brings forth their exhilarating brand of heaviness led by visceral guitar riffs and hard-hitting attitude, which is sure to obliterate fans of extreme music everywhere.

In the decades and even centuries to come, the year 2020 will be remembered for many things, most of them seriously negative. But even in this absolute fucker of a year, goodness still prevails. Part of that goodness is "How to Draw Fire," the brand new album from Painted Doll, the unlikely duo consisting of death metal legend Chris Reifert (Autopsy, Death, Violation Wound, Abscess) and musician/comedian Dave Hill(Valley Lodge, Witch Taint).

"How to Draw Fire" is the band’s second album and on it Chris and Dave push their patented blend of psych/prog/proto-punk/rock/power pop and whatever else even further over the course of a dozen songs. Pop hooks are bigger, the scary parts are scarier, and the psych parts are so psychedelic some people may very well require medical attention just to come down from it all.

Chris and Dave met way back in 2015, a simpler time to be sure, but also a crazy time in that Dave somehow found himself at the Housecore Horror and Film Festival in San Antonio, Texas playing guitar for muscle metal legend Thor for one magical evening. Chris’ band Autopsy was also playing at the festival and Dave decided to swing by the show to see what all the death metal fuss was about. Afterward, the two got to chatting and decided to see Goblin together later that night. And whenever Dave found himself in Los Angeles in the months that followed, he and Chris would get to jamming on songs inspired by their shared love of sixties and seventies psych music, which eventually resulted in their critically-acclaimed self-titled debut album, released by Tee Pee Records in 2017. Live shows on the east and west coast, featuring an expanded lineup that included the band’s producer Tom Beaujour (Nada Surf, Julian Hatfield, the Virgins, Guided by Voices) on guitar and bass player Erika Osterhout (Chtonic Deity, Necrosic, Scolex), followed, including a handful of dates opening up for Monster Magnet, which is awesome.

For "How to Draw Fire," Chris and Dave decided to mix things up and get together in Autopsy’s rehearsal room in Oakland, which hasn’t been vacuumed since the eighties at least, before eventually heading into Kaleidoscope Sound in New Jersey with Tom Beaujour once again. The result is twelve brand new Painted Doll songs that will remind you not only that hope springs eternal, but that everything sounds better with a little tambourine on it too.

August 7, 2020 - The highly anticipated eighth full-length album from AVATAR titled Hunter Gatherer arrived today via Entertainment One (eOne), marking their darkest and most insightful record of their near decade long career. The band has celebrated the monumental release by sharing new lyric videos for select songs from the album, including highlights such as “A Secret Door” which features Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour), and the dizzyingly heavy album closer “Wormhole”. These new visuals follow the previously released tracks “Colossus”, “God of Sick Dreams”, and “Silence in the Age of Apes” - the latter of which is already named one of the best metal songs of the year so far by Loudwire - that revealed the band’s new wardrobes and unrelenting yet immersive new ideas piece by piece.

The Belgian death metal stalwarts of CARNATION are now premiering their latest single, "Iron Discipline," which is taken from the bands upcoming full length 'Where Death Lies.' The record is due on September 18

Early 2013, guitar player Jonathan Verstrepen created the band to show his appreciation for the old school death metal legends from the ‘80s & early ‘90s. Vocalist Simon Duson, bass player Yarne Heylen, guitar player Bert Vervoort, and drummer Vincent Verstrepen were summoned to complete the band, and it didn’t take long until the chemistry between this quintet hit critical mass.

The Belgian’s first EP offering, entitled 'Cemetery of the Insane', was released upon the masses in 2015 . Tracks such as "Explosive Cadavers" or "The Rituals of Flesh" take you back in time to the better days of shredding riffs, neck-breaking drums, and skull-crushing guttural vocals.

The live rituals that followed were executed with stone cold merciless aggression. CARNATION delivered their bloodbath at select festivals across Europe during 2015 and 2016. Their next journey led them to distant Asia for their first tour across mainland Japan. This resulted in the infamous 'Live at Asakusa Deathfest' album, which saw the light in (2017). 

These releases, combined with their reputation as a notoriously impressive live act, drew the attention of fans worldwide and provided CARNATION with the opportunity to perform at several European festivals and saw the band touring alongside PESTILENCE during their special Brazilian tour in April 2018. After signing with Season of Mist in 2018, CARNATION welcomed new and loyal audiences to death’s domain and invited them to witness them rise to their throne!

CARNATION rage on in 2019 with more spectacular live shows at 70.000 Tons of Metal, Alcatraz (BE) and Damnation Festival (UK), as part of their touring rampage throughout Japan and Europe (with PUNGENT STENCH and DESERTED FEAR), before entering the studio for the recordings of a brand new album. The mastering for the new offering was done by the mighty Jens Bogren (SEPULTURA, ENSLAVED, ARCH ENEMY) at the Fascination Street Studios in Örebro (SE).

With ‘Where Death Lies’ a new chapter of abhorrence now begins and opens up a hellish path to resurrection, reincarnation, and immortality. You wanted death? CARNATION is here with a superior appearance performing new rituals in service of ancient deities. All hail the new death metal overlords!

Portland’s The Loyal Order have released their self-titled debut album via EMP Label Group/Von Artists/Bühner Media

The band has released a video for their second single “Hellfire”, released simultaneously with the album July 17th, which became Foundations #1 Greatest Gainer (with Metallica at #2). In week 2 it gained entrance into Billboard’s TOP 40 Mainstream Rock Indicator Chart and Foundation’s Top 50 in week 2 and continues to climb. The video currently sits at over 350,000 views.

TLO released their debut single "READY FOR DEAD" in 2019, with a video that has now received over a million views. With the expertise of Thom Hazaert (EMP Label Group) at the helm, “Ready For Dead” found a home in the Billboard Mainstream Rock Indicator Chart rising for over 10 weeks peaking just outside the top 20, and at #12 on Foundation’s Top 50.

The Loyal Order hatched as a studio project several years ago when vocalist Jeff Buehner was approached to write a theme song for a regional outdoor hunting show. He reached out to guitarist Brandon Cook (Black ‘N Blue) for a heavy riff, and the result was a song called SUPERHUMAN produced by Portland’s Kevin Hahn. It aired regionally in the Pacific NW for two seasons. From this, the songwriting partnership between Buehner and Cook began to flow. They soon approached Producer Rob Daiker at The Commune in Portland, Oregon, who has crafted major label releases with Slowrush, The Dan Reed Network, and Royal Bliss.

Rounding out the lineup is Justin Gibson on guitar, Patrick Young (Black ‘N Blue) on bass, and Kyle Baltus (36 Crazyfists, Light the Torch) on the drums. All prominent Pacific NW rock players that have made names for themselves locally and nationally.

The Loyal Order’s debut show was with Puddle of Mudd to a sold out audience at The Bossa Nova Ballroom in 2019, and. Buehner and Cook have been featured in publications such as Sleazerock, The Decibel Report, Metal Talk, KNAC, The Hard Heavy and Hair Show, Bionic Buzz and others.

.......the album kicks off is surprisingly forthright style with a mid-paced LA style rocker Ready for Dead with a strong likeness to Velvet Revolver or a polite Brides Of Destruction vibe. Jeff Buehner has a great voice and is tunefully on point throughout with a bit of a roughed-up edge in places. He opens up, soars and shines on tracks like the standout Colorblind propped up with some very complimentary backing vocals. There’s a nod to Alice In Chains, Soundgarden and Creed in tracks like Half Life and The River and a very Buckcherry Fuck Or Fight, plus another standout in the raunch and roll of the Blackstone Cherry-esque Superhuman.
