Following on from The Academy of Sun's ambitious 2020 album 'The Quiet Earth', Heaven’s Lathe is proud to present two new songs from this very special Brighton-based ensemble. On 'It Is Finished When It's Destroyed' and 'Ghost Foxes', The Academy of Sun have never sounded so glorious.

Curated by writer, broadcaster and DJ Graham Duff and made by Bladud Flies!, Heaven’s Lathe is dedicated to bringing out the highest quality 7" singles, releasing one each month, limited to a 100 copies, which comes on lathe-cut vinyl with engraved centres. As well as containing thrilling music, these are beautiful artefacts in their own right.

Referring to themselves as ‘queer, gnostic, orchestral post-punk’, their music is centered on the rich vocals and nuanced song-writing of Nick Hudson, whose work has been described by no lesser authority than Julian Cope as “Bill Nelson singing Scott’s ‘Angels Of Ashes’… highly fucking beautiful in a gazing together into Biba mirrors with smeared lippy kind of manner.”

A-side ‘It Is Finished When It’s Destroyed’ is a work in two movements. With squalls of feedback and a twisting bass line, the song opens with a sense of bruised optimism. The second section sees Hudson’s keening vocal riding over a battery of floor toms and fizzing synths. Mixed by acclaimed US producer Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Danny Elfman, Earth, Mandy OST), this song bristles with detail and is truly cinematic in its sweep.

Flip side ‘Ghost Foxes’ is built around a constantly shuffling drum pattern and sharp slivers of staccato guitar. This is The Academy of Sun as questing rock band, with a sound suggestive of early Bad Seeds. Here, as in all their best work, the group strike a perfect balance between the cerebral and the primal.

"The first The Academy Of Sun track I’ve written since finishing writing 'The Quiet Earth' in 2018, this is an aquaplaning freight train of psychedelia and snarl - with the second part endlessly modulating over a skittery, syncopated drum pattern and Mariana Trench-plumbing synths. Whether it is lyrically directed at the heinous cabal of xenophobic disaster capitalists currently holed up in UK parliament remains to be seen (it is)," says Nick Hudson.

"'Ghost Foxes' was written for 'The Quiet Earth', but never felt “right” until we were asked to create this release. A satire on esotericism, boasting yet another Herzog quote and some mesmerizing guitar tones from our plank-wielder, Guy Brice, 'Ghost Foxes' was always riotous to play live, and will be again."

Formed ten years ago in Brighton, UK, The Academy of Sun is a psychedelic post-punk quartet of Nick Hudson (piano, synths, Hammond organ, harmonium, vocals, percussion, synths) and Kianna Blue (bass, synths), Guy Brice (guitars) and Ash Babb (drums).

Nick Hudson's musical juggernaut has been active since 2012, always transcending expectations. The Academy of Sun has collaborated with Massive Attack's Shara Nelson, Matthew Seligman (Bowie, Tori Amos, Morrissey), Wayne Hussey (The Mission), Canadian queercore icon GB Jones, members of NYC's Kayo Dot and David Tibet (Current 93). TAOS has also performed / toured with Mogwai, Toby Driver and Keith Abrams (Kayo Dot) and Timba Harris (Mr Bungle, Amanda Palmer).

On Friday, July 2 at 6PM BST, the EP will be released on 7" lathe-cut vinyl via the label's Bandcamp. This black hand-numbered 7” high quality stereo lathe-cut vinyl features an engraved Heavens Lathe logo, 230gsm sleeve, black inner sleeve and PVC protective sleeve. Ships within a white polylined paper inner sleeve and a 'lathe cut' care card and includes digital download. Otherwise, these tracks will be available digitally in mid-August.

"The biblical figure "Judas Iskarioth" is considered in the conventional narrative of the Bible not only as a traitor, but above all as "the outcast". Our song "The Gospel Of Judas" is primarily about this designation, but in a social sense rather than a biblical one. While we like to boast about being tolerant, open-minded and individual, it is mainly these people who live out their individual way of loving, believing and looking, who are outcast by society.

Why? Because there is no way to assign these people to a pigeonhole, which people desperately seek in order not to feel disoriented themselves, or to have to question them. However, we would like to question whether it is important at all to be able to categorize people, let alone oneself. The real strength lies in our diversity and individuality. We have recognized that for ourselves as a band. And with "The Gospel Of Judas" we want to remind everyone that one's own limits only begin where one gives up one's individuality."

On their new offering JUDAS, LORD OF THE LOST draw the listener into a conflict that has lasted for thousands of centuries and is as old as mankind itself: The conflict between good and evil. On JUDAS, LORD OF THE LOST tell of this conflict from the perception of the character of Judas Iskarioth, known as highly diverse, and the so-called Gospel of Judas, a paper that's said to consist of conversations between Jesus Christ and Judas Iskarioth and casts a different light on religious history as it's told in the Bible's New Testament.

VOYAGER Announces Special Virtual Show, "A Voyage Through Time"

Electro Prog Sensation VOYAGER will transmit to the universe a special edition online show direct from Perth, Western Australia this September. Following the success of their debut online show that served fans during the first lockdown, Voyager have now expanded their horizons and announced a unique once in a lifetime performance that spans the band's extensive career.

'A Voyage Through Time' sees Perth's premiere Progressive Metal outfit Voyager present a one of a kind visual and aural performance that outlines the progression of their musical career. An online live experience with full production, a journey across two decades and seven albums with a fan-voted set list, seeks to explore a new and enhanced approach to the band's live show serving to grab the attention of both their Australian and international fan base, and as a tribute to the songs that have stayed with fans over time.

'Colours in the Sun' was recently the winner of The Independent Music Award in the Rock/Hard Rock Album category. The record was released in November of 2019 and landed a coveted #1 placement on the Australian Independent Albums chart! ICYMI: Earlier this year, VOYAGER's music video for "Runaway" was exclusively premiered via 'Eurovision - Australia Decides!' Following an application via the Song Portal, the band finally received recognition for submitting a track and were paid tribute on the live television broadcast that aired on Saturday, February 8 on the Gold Coast. The video is now available worldwide and can be seen at THIS LOCATION.

Since their 1999 formation, whatever genre norms, boundaries and regulations thrust upon Perth, Australia’s Voyager have been smashed. They embrace, if not brandish pop; employ a keytar on stage, and, bring forward a positive, if not uplifting feeling to their music, running head-first into the endless parade of heavy bands who see the world in a different light. It’s perhaps why the title of their seventh full-length and first for Season of Mist, Colours in the Sun, is apropos: Voyager simply prefers to see the bright side of things.

“Observations of the malaises of the modern world and the baffling obsession with purity and difference all make me think,” says frontman and founding member Danny Estrin. “We’ve never had it better and we’ve never had it more colorful. To me that’s progress, it’s adaptation, it’s evolution and it’s astounding.”

The follow-up to 2017’s Ghost Mile, Colours in the Sun finds Voyager enmeshed in rich, melodic, song-first tapestries, led by Estrin’s smooth, capable clean vocal delivery. Estrin is self-aware of his vocals, calling them “unique and ‘80s.” But whatever tag Estrin affixes to his voice, they are the propellent throughout Colours in the Sun, serving up a steady diet of soaring, emotive choruses, where melody is paramount and along the way, even getting some help from another distinctive belter, Leprous’s Einar Solberg on “Entropy.”

“Einar and I became good friends on our tours through Europe and Australia,” notes Estrin. “I couldn’t help but ask him to guest on the album. He is a fantastic musician and vocalist. I sent him a reference track which he swiftly ignored and laid his own tracks down. The result is stunning!”

The kaleidoscope of sounds that comprise the album’s ten cuts is the result of Voyager’s far-reaching influences, many of which go beyond the traditional realms of metal and rock. Estrin calls it “catchy at the top, proggy at the bottom, as if Dream Theater and Depeche Mode had a baby.” It’s almost as if the term “progressive” is too limiting for Voyager, particularly when the guitar tandem of Simone Dow and Scott Kay merge for complex rhythms while doing battle against Estrin’s vaudeville-like keyboards (!) on “Reconnected.”

The “proggy at the bottom” notice is served by way of the rhythm section of bassist Alex Canion and drummer Ashley Doodkorte, who stretch their musical tentacles across busy, active cuts such as “Saccharine Dream” and the syncopated “Water Over the Bridge.” “I think we found our ‘voice’ on V (2014) and have been building on that ever since,” says Estrin. “The synthwave prog sound is really something that has naturally developed and has been refined even more on the new album. Every record is progress — that’s what progressive music is all about!”

According to Estrin, the Colours in the Sun album title encompasses a “vibrant multitude of people coming together under the hot Australian sun to create a beautiful and colorful soundscape.” It’s capped off by artwork courtesy of Doodkorte, who made the piece out of photographs near his house in Perth. A closer inspection reveals there are seven suns on the cover, one for each Voyager album, topped off by an updated version of the band’s logo comprised of five strokes, one for each member. No doubt a fitting visual summation of a band whose progress can be the described in the most literal and figurative of terms.

“It’s been a slow steady growth over the years,” concludes Estrin. “Other bands come and go after a year of fame. I really feel like we’ve built up an incredible fanbase, especially over the last decade, and the deal with Season of Mist seemed the logical step to take it to the next level together.”

OBSIDIOUS Shares the Making of the "Iconic" Music Video

Modern progressive metal band OBSIDIOUS is now releasing a behind the scenes look at the making of their latest music video for the song "Iconic." The track is taken from the band’s upcoming debut album, which will be released via the label in early 2022.

OBSIDIOUS bassist Linus Klausenitzer comments: "The 'Iconic' music video reflects the different musical aspects and the intensity of the song perfectly. It was quite a challenge to shoot it with a singer that we still haven't met because of corona restrictions. But in the end we were able to create a concept without making any unsatisfying compromises."

In April 2020 guitarist Rafael Trujillo, bassist Linus Klausenitzer and drummer Sebastian Lanser decided to move on from their former band OBSCURA to continue their musical path with the completely new band OBSIDIOUS. Free from former boundaries, OBSIDIOUS merge extreme metal with other genres of music into a unique style that people will somehow find familiar, but haven‘t heard yet. Together with their singer Javi Perera they set out to create a musical evolution: With a fresh name, reaching for new fan groups utilizing modern marketing ideas. OBSIDIOUS’ band members have many facets and influences to build upon, using virtuosity & technique to write great songs.

Rafael Trujillo, Linus Klausenitzer and Sebastian Lanser built a strong bond after years of worldwide touring and recording together with OBSCURA. With their last record “Diluvium”, that was primarily composed by the trio, the band celebrated their biggest success to date. Alternative metal band, ALBORN, released a brand new single titled "HINDSIGHT"to all digital outlets via Imagen Records. In addition, the band has announced new show dates for this summer!

Northern Illinois based alternative metal band, Alborn has a sound that has been compared to Deftones or a heavier version of Alice in Chains. But, make no mistake, Alborn has created something unique, hard, and melodic.

Alborn is made up of Justin Taylor [guitar/vocals], Alex Raser [Drums/vocals], Zame Lewis [bass] and Nate Guske [guitar/vocals]. They formed in 2016 as a rock cover band but decided in 2018 to leave their cover band roots behind and focus on their originals.

In early 2020, Alborn played to a huge Quad City crowd at the Rust Belt with Buckcherry and Adelitas Way plus multiple shows with Sevendust, including a Champaign, IL sellout. This all has led to Alborn signing a distribution deal with Imagen Records and ADA (Warner Music). Their first single, "Full Circle", received airplay locally and nationally, including Sirius XM's Octane and landing on Spotify's editorial "Rock Hard" playlist. Alborn’s second single, "Cause to Create" came out in late January 2021 and saw very similar success.

“Mark McNelley and I had discussed the album the album that would become Lockdown Diaries a year earlier when were at Red Rocks in Colorado. If you can’t be inspired at Red Rocks, I give up. We began collaboration on the songs that would eventually make up the album in June of 2020 at the height of the pandemic. We wanted to create songs with a positive message and work with friends who we felt would bring positive energy to the project. I had known Dan Reed and Melvin Brannon from Dan Reed Network for a very long time and was a fan of their music and each of them personally. In May of 2020 I told Dan Reed of the idea to do an album with musicians who were home from touring and he asked me who I was going to get to play guitar and bass and I mentioned Greg Smith and Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal as possibilities. I had met Greg Smith from Ted Nugent’s band the year before and had called him to tell him of the idea and he thought it was something he was interested in so we stayed in touch as I assembled the rest of the musicians. I had been listening to Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal’s latest acoustic album Barefoot 3 and was blown away by his arrangements. I had met Ron also the year before and knew he was an amazing guitar player and also a nice guy so I really wanted him involved if there was a way" says Todd Thanhauser, the band's drummer.

He adds, “Ricochet” was the first song we wrote together in June of 2020 and the first time I heard the demo that Dan Reed had sent to us I knew the song was going to be something special.”

SYLVAINE Enters Studio to Record Fourth Full-Length

Scandinavian multi-instrumentalist SYLVAINE has entered the studio to record the follow up full-length to 2018's Norwegian Grammy nominated 'Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone!' The album will be released early 2022 by Season of Mist.

SYLVAINE comments: "You could definitely say that the creation of this 4th Sylvaine album has taken an unconventional path in many ways. After the realization of 'Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone,' I knew that making the next record was going to take a lot out of me. Little did I know just how much though, with 2020 bringing forth some of the most challenging times I have experienced so far in my life. It took me a while to gather everything and channel it into songs that would express all of these emotions I had been carrying around with me for some time.

"One thing was completely certain from the beginning of the process; Benoît Roux at Drudenhaus was going to be the person I brought the record to life with. It’s so important to work with people who just get what you are trying to communicate with your art, even without having to say a single word. That for me is Benoît. He just understands. Not to mention the human side, which is fantastic as well, something that becomes extremely important when spending so much time together for 2 months straight! I almost felt like a part of his family by the end, haha.

"The recording process was heavily prolonged compared to what we initially planned. Between the travel restrictions, everyone contracting Covid during the first weeks of the recording process and personal circumstances related to Benoît, we were forced to extend our time spent recording this album. If it wasn’t one obstacle making things complicated, there was another one just around the corner, waiting for us, haha.... But that didn’t faze me to be honest. I was just so grateful to finally be back in the studio, doing what I love the most once again. We spent just over 2 months in the end, recording and starting the mixing for this fourth album. It was an incredibly intense time, even more so being completely on my own for most of it. My drummer for the album, Dorian Mansiaux, also my on-stage drummer, was with me for the first days of the session, laying down his parts. I also have two guests on the album, that I’ll be revealing later on. I feel privileged to have all of these talented people involved with this record, making it even more special to me. Can’t tell you how excited I am to share this album with everyone – I put every piece of my soul into it. "

A Flock Of Seagulls returns with 'Say You Love Me', lead single from their New Album 'String Theory'

Following up on their 2018 their "Ascension" album, the band return with 'Say You Love Me', the lead single from their new album, the second installmentof their Orchestral Hits opus. 'String Theory' includes 11 new recordings of some of their classic hits and fan favorites.

The 'Say You Love Me' single comes with a eight different versions, remixes and a music video. The track is full to the brim of soaring strings, uplifting grooves and widescreen scope. Mikes positive message in the vocals knitting the new recording together with aplomb. Remixes are both of the 80s style "extended" variety and also newly reproduced versions, with Soda Pimps offering a electronic diversion on the track.

A Flock Of Seagulls may well be known for their bizarrely teased haircuts as much as their hit single "I Ran". A Flock Of Seagulls were one of prime movers in the 80's new wave era. Growing out of the synth-heavy and ruthlessly stylish new romantic movement. Hairdresser Mike Score (lead vocals, keyboards) formed A Flock Of Seagulls with his brother Ali (drums) and fellow hairdresser Frank Maudsley (bass) in 1980, adding guitarist Paul Reynolds several months later.. "Telecommunication" became an underground hit in Euro-disco and new wave clubs. The band signed a major-label contract with Jive by the end of the year, and their eponymous debut album appeared in the spring of 1982. "I Ran (So Far Away)" was released as the first single from the album, and MTV quickly picked up on its icily attractive video, which featured long shots of Mike Score and his distinctive, cascading hair. The single climbed into the American Top Ten, taking the album along with it. In the UK, "I Ran" didn't make the Top 40, but "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)" reached number ten later that year; in America, that single became a Top 40 hit in 1983, after "Space Age Love Song" peaked at number 30. "Wishing" was taken from the group's second album "Listen" in 1983. The band released 1984's "The Story of A Young Heart" which fielded the hit "The More You Live, The More You Love".

A Flock Of Seagulls are famous for their music but also famous for their references in popular culture from TV (Ross's Haircut in Friends), Computer Games ("I Ran" was the standout track on Grand Theft Auto Radio), Film (The band and haircut are referenced in Pulp Fiction, X-Men and The Wedding Singer) . This cemented the bands reputation and brought the band to a whole new legion of fans.

In 2003, the original line-up of Mike, Ali, Frank and Paul reunited for a one-off performance on the VH1 series Bands Reunited. In September 2004, they reformed again and did a brief tour in the United States. From 2004 to 2021 Mike was as busy as ever touring the band around the world. In 2018 the band appeared on record together for their "Ascension" album. The original members all appear on record together for 'String Theory'.

Dark Station released the re-imagined version of their single "Misery" to all major platforms today. This version of the single will be included on their upcoming 5-song EP titled Afterlight that features re-imagined songs from their previous album Down in the Dark.

"Nathan wrote this song about the relationship between Harley Quinn and The Joker, but I think anyone who has been in a toxic relationship will identify with the lyrics. Instrumentally, we put everything together with Jeremy and Brandon Wolfe at Wolfe Studios. I really love how this version of the song turned out. I think it shows a different side of the band and I think a lot of people will appreciate that" says Kyle Ort, the band's guitarist.

He adds, "We wanted the video to feel like a live performance, almost like the viewer was in the room with us, so we did the entire video in 2 shots with minimal editing. In the spring of 2018, five Southern California musicians came together, leaving their respective projects behind, to form a new band. Bassist, vocalist ABBY K released her new single "Dodging A Bullet (I Swear)" to all major platforms via The Label Group/Ingrooves today!

"Dodging A Bullet (I Swear) has had the wildest journey out of any song I have written so far. We went into the studio without ever playing together in the same room. The chemistry was indescribable and we came out of the studio with a completely different song!" says Abby K.

Abby K is a bassist, vocalist, and songwriter from Charlotte, North Carolina. She picked up the bass at age 13 after being influenced by Gene Simmons at a KISSConcert. Months into her musical journey, she was 1 of 3 bassists in the United States selected to attend GRAMMY Camp in Los Angeles, CA. She claims that her proudest moment was when Nita Strauss joined her onstage to perform Iron Maiden’s “The Trooper”. Since then, she has developed her own style of musicianship which is commonly described as the love child of Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) and Lita Ford.

In the spring of 2021, Abby K became an independent artist and announced that Crispy Borell and Diego Vargas will be joining the band as co-lead guitarists. Recently, the new lineup released the title track of their upcoming album, “Pay Attention” as a single. ATLAS SHARE NEW SINGLE AND TITLE TRACK OF THE NEW ALBUM 'UKKO'

Finnish metalcore band ATLAS share their new single 'UKKO' along with a music video. 'UKKO' is the second single as well as the title track of the new album coming October 22nd, 2021 via Long Branch Records. It's also the heaviest piece of music the band has ever written. The name of the song honors the father figure of the band who passed away less than a year ago. 'UKKO' is also a euphemism of the Finnish pre-christian mythological god of the sky, thunder, weather, and harvest.

"It's our way of honoring those we've loved and lost. Heavy looping rhythms, huge percussions, and ominous melodies create a song that celebrates northern spirits. A true sacrifice for the old Finnish pagan gods."

UKKO is the second studioalbum by the Finnish metal band ATLAS. On the 11 new tracks the 5-piece from Tampere presents a new sonic palette and steps into a new direction for the band. For UKKO, ATLAS drew inspiration from Finnish folk music and poetry, combining these influences with the dark soundscapes and dynamic songwriting for which the band is already known. Lyrically and thematically UKKO explores themes of death, healing, rebirth and faith, presented in a seamlessly blended mix of English and Finnish.

The album is mixed and mastered by Buster Odeholm (Vildhjarta, Oceano, Humanity's Last Breath, Born of Osiris) who was able to bring his unique approach and sound to the album.
