Charlie Nieland presents 'The Land of Accidents', a dark anthem to not-belonging

"Pressing drum strikes create a restless atmosphere that’s reinforced by brightly winding guitar lines, and Nieland’s heartfelt vocals as he sings socio-politically steeped lyrics” ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"Brings to mind R.E.M. with both music and vocals right in line with the kind of music they put out in their first ten years... Nieland carries it with strength, his voice like a beacon of truth" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"Thoughtful and socially-conscious... Neiland brings a message of hope and a vision for a better future" ~ Rebel Noise

"Nieland approaches such subjects with a musical deftness and sonic poise which may at first belie the poignancy of the message he is sending... he balances shards of guitar noise, beguiling electronica and his imploring vocals" ~ Dancing About Architecture

Ahead of the March 5 release of his new ‘Divisions’ LP, NYC-based producer indie music veteran Charlie Nieland presents the single ‘The Land of Accidents’ with a new video, directed by NYC-based multi-faceted artist Hypnodoll, who spectacularly unearths our worldly connection with her expansive, visceral music video.

“The Land Of Accidents is a dark anthem to not-belonging, inspired by a passage in the novel ‘White Teeth’ by Zadie Smith: a dialogue between the thirst for acceptance and freedom. The suffering we feel in our estrangement can just as easily be liberation. “Nothing happens the way you expected,” says Charlie Nieland.

“Written as part of the international performance series, Bushwick Book Club, I recorded 'The Land Of Accidents' to be part of the upcoming ‘Divisions’ album. As Joseph Campbell says, “We’re in a free fall into future… But all you have to do to transform your hell into a paradise is to turn your fall into a voluntary act… Joyfully participate in the sorrows of the world and everything changes.”

Hypnodoll lends some insight into this new clip: "This video was inspired by our beautiful earth and it’s ancient history. Where we’re from can often feel as if it were projected onto us — but in the end, we are all made of stardust”.

To date, Nieland has previewed tracks from this album, including 'Tightrope', 'So Few Have So Much', 'Pawns' and 'Divisions'.

Renowned for tastefully blending post punk, dream pop and progressive rock with sweeping melodies and restless and visceral rhythms, Charlie Nieland has been writing, playing and producing music for decades, with a focus on the atmospheric and the imaginative.

Nieland played power dream pop with the band Her Vanished Grace for over 20 years before establishing himself as a solo artist with a mix of nuanced songwriting and sonic exploration. He is currently half of the literature-inspired songwriting and performing duo Lusterlit with Susan Hwang.

Over the years, Charlie has written and produced material with such notable artists as Debbie Harry, Rufus Wainwright, Dead Leaf Echo, Blondie and Scissor Sisters. He scored the feature film 'The Safety of Objects' (starring Glenn Close), the pilot episode of 'The L Word' on Showtime and the VH-1documentary 'NY77: The Coolest Year in Hell'. Charlie was awarded a Gold record (UK) for his production work on Blondie's 'Greatest Hits Sight & Sound' and achieved a Top 10 Billboard Dance Chart Position with Debbie Harry's single 'Two Times Blue', which he co-wrote and produced.

'The Land of Accidents' is available now digitally everywhere, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. The full 'Divisions' album will be released on March 5 and can be pre-ordered directly from the artist.

CULTED Announces Two Hour Radio Special for Gimme Metal

Image 2-22-21 at 7.29 PM.JPG

From the icy expanse of the Canadian prairies to the Nordic coast of Sweden, industrial blackened doom collective CULTED have long been innovators of creating music remotely, transcending both literal and metaphorical boundaries for over a decade. Michael Klassen and Matthew Friesen were first approached by Daniel Jansson to collaborate on an international project and come 2008, these ideas began to coalesce, with fellow Canadian Kevin Stevenson joining the cult. The band soon recorded and unveiled their first LP, Below the Thunders of the Upper Deep (2009), as well as the EP Of Death and Ritual(2010.)

In 2013, sophomore full-length Oblique to All Paths was released upon being written, recorded, and produced in various closets, basements, dens, and domiciles. After forming a union with Season of Mist, CULTED continued their down-tempo exploration of blackened and industrial soundscapes with 2019’s mini-album, Vespertina Synaxis; A Prayer for Union and Emptiness, which was inspired by the isolation, alienation, and damnation that dominates the rime-encrusted lands CULTED inhabit. Now, the band is ready to unleash their most devastating and personal opus yet, Nous.

Nous was born in turmoil after members of the band endured a period of extreme personal experiences, both psychological and physical. The creation process was informed by disease, death, and the resulting existential crises. Instead of predetermining the direction CULTED would take with their third full-length, the band allowed the music to speak for itself as it came together organically. Nous was a result of its creators attempting to destroy or ignore the egoic (that chatter and everything outside of pure consciousness that attempts to sabotage you of peace and rob you of the moment) and instead, opening themselves up to the unidentifiable and nameless muse of sound.

CULTED further explores their relationship with doom, black metal, and industrial on yet another experimental effort in which the band’s collective agony is translated into something both nihilistic and tangible through dissonant soundscapes. Each song is a nightmare in the abyss, dragging the listener through caverns of inexplicable darkness and suffering.

Exemplifying the themes, meditations, and diatribes of the human condition, Nous, which roughly translates to “common sense” or “practical intelligence,” explores both the religious and conspiratorial processes of the mind within the framework of critical thought. According to biblical scripture, Satan convinced Eve that the most powerful of conspirators - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - were secretly trying to keep the first humans shrouded in a veil of ignorance, preventing them from becoming “like God” and “knowing good and evil.” Eve became the first in a long line, from Gnostics to flat-earthers, to believe powerful forces were withholding secret information. Nous attempts to know God or the inner essence or principles of created things by means of direct perception. Nous must be carefully distinguished from reason as it does not formulate abstract concepts or argue them using deductive reasoning, but rather, it understands divine truth by means of immediate experience. Thelema of the gods.
To further solidify these introspective concepts, the cover art is an interpretation of the Temptation of St. Anthony who was one of the first monks to retire to the desert to devote himself to fasting and prayer, which is an often-repeated subject in the history of art and literature, especially concerning the supernatural temptation reportedly faced by Saint Anthony during his sojourn in the Egyptian desert. The art encapsulates both the music and lyrical concept, visually.

CULTED is now inviting you to open your mind, abandon your religion, and to join the cult on this existential and devastating journey.

SYDNEY SHERWOOD Releases Official, Performance Music Video for Acoustic Version of "Let Me Down"

Sophomore EP, Headspace, Out February 27th, 2021!

New Jersey based Singer / Songwriter SYDNEY SHERWOOD has released the official music video for the acoustic version of her new single, "Let Me Down." Filmed, recorded and edited by LAMPSHADE SESSIONS, "Let Me Down" is off the dynamic, young songstress's upcoming EP, Headspace, due out February 27, 2021.

"I wrote 'Let Me Down' with one of my favorite songwriters a few years ago after getting over someone I had feelings for for some time. I like to see the good in people and deep down I knew this person had good in them, but I looked at what that person could’ve been instead of the person that was standing right before me. I gave this person every chance to prove themselves and time and time again I was let down. I was so blinded by this false sense of reality that when this person let me down it felt shocking. I think a lot of people can relate to the fact that when you care for someone, you tend to overlook the negative things they do because you’re consumed with feelings, but now I realize it’s important to have one foot in reality at all times. Writing this song was one of my biggest moments of clarity to see that I deserved more. While the song is definitely not in favor of the guy, his actions opened my eyes to see what I don’t want and what I won’t tolerate. Had I never gone through this experience, I would’ve never known to look for those red flags in the future and I guess I have him to thank for this killer song." - SYDNEY SHERWOOD

Sydney Sherwood is an 18-year-old singer/songwriter from New Jersey. Sydney began singing and playing guitar as a way to express her emotions after her brother was diagnosed with cancer.

Since her brother's diagnosis, being a childhood cancer advocate has become a big part of Sydney's life. She has performed and spoken at many childhood cancer events over the past twelve years and continues to be a voice for all children with cancer, as well as their siblings.

Sydney began writing her own music when she was 13, and on March 3, 2019, she released her first EP, Beauty from Ashes. Her release show was held at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. In 2019, Sydney also received a golden ticket to Hollywood from American Idol celebrity judges Katy PerryLuke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.

Over the course of the pandemic, Sydney has been writing and recording her new album, Headspace, which will be released February 27, 2021.

Sydney’s goal is to touch the lives of others through the music that she writes, as she takes inspiration directly from her life experiences.

TOMBS Shares New Music Video for "Secrets of the Black Sun"

Brooklyn/New Jersey metal formation TOMBS is now sharing a brand new music video for the song "Secrets of the Black Sun," which is taken from 2020's full-length, 'Under Sullen Skies.' The video, which was created by Aimed and Framed.
ICYMI: TOMBS bassist Drew Murphy (HAMMER FIGHT, KALOPSIA) has given an up close and personal tour of his expansive bass collection in a new gear rundown video! You can check out his gear collection and learn about his history as a bassist at THIS LOCATION.

TOMBS' latest full-length, 'Under Sullen Skies' was released in November of 2020. The record has been named one of the best metal releases of 2020 by Metal Insider, Decibel Magazine, The Pit, Riff Magazine, Chicago Music Guide's Global Music Podcast, and others while drummer Justin Spaeth has been dubbed one of the best drummers of 2020 by Sick Drummer Magazine.

In addition, TOMBS previously premiered the official music video for their new song, "The Hunger," which pays homage to cinema's most infamous vampires! The song and video, which was created by Jaclyn Sheer, can be found at THIS LOCATION.

'Under Sullen Skies' can be streamed, downloaded, and ordered HERE.

There’s a line from Mike Hill’s audiobook/tour diary of ANODYNE’s 2004 European tour in which the gravel-throated frontman affirms, “I will always outwork you.” In that case, Hill was referring to an incident in Germany early on during a six-week long overseas jaunt with his previous band. In actuality, however, he could have been talking about any instance between when he first picked up a guitar as a teen and the present. Whether it’s his history dating back to previous bands OTIS, ANODYNE, KING GENERATOR or VERSOMA, his ongoing solo work in VASILEK, the more recent SCORPION THRONE project or his thirteen year reign as the driving force and nerve center of post-black metal institution TOMBS, hard work is second nature and nothing will keep the guitarist/vocalist from creative endeavor and expression. And it’s not just music in which his propulsive work ethic has gleaned results: Hill also is the CEO and roast master at Savage Gold Coffee (a labelling nod to TOMBS’ 2014 album of the same name), the host/producer/creator of the Everything Went Black podcast, host and producer of Gimme Radio’s Metal Matters flagship podcast, the creator and co-host of horror podcast Necromaniacs as well as a stalwart in the print and online journalism world covering music and MMA fighting. His is, has been and always will be a life steeped in dedication and with unassailable drive in the cross hairs. And despite the world being put on pause, Hill refuses to curtail his innate determination and ongoing tenacity with the result being TOMBS emerging with the next chapter in its impressive catalog and growing legacy: the band’s fifth full-length, 'Under Sullen Skies'.

“The week VERSOMA broke up in 2007, I started TOMBS,” he says, recalling how, characteristically, the band started before any dust was permitted to settle. “The initial rehearsals ended up being the bulk of material that showed up on the first [self-titled] EP. The intent from the beginning was to get back to playing music I wanted to hear and to not be so concerned with genre or satisfying anyone else’s desires. It was to do music on a personal level and be a reflection of the darkness I’ve felt throughout my life.”

Formed in the gritty corners of pre-gentrified Brooklyn, NY, TOMBS’ early mandate was steeped in the harshness and atonality of black metal but dosed with trace amounts of the varied influences and inspirations ingrained in Hill’s musical muscle memory by previous bands. “The canon of music TOMBS has created has spanned several different genres, but I’ve always had it my intent for there to always be a certain amount of violence and hardness lurking the background.”
Those early years delivered splits and singles, the highly revered 'Winter Hours' debut in 2009 and Decibel’s 2011 Album of the Year, 'Path of Totality'. Never one to sit still, 'Path of Totality' was followed by appreciable and impressive amounts of touring in accordance with the lauding afforded by critics and fans and the braying of foes, which only served as fuel for Hill’s perseverance. Savage Gold came three years later after which a restless Hill began nudging TOMBS’ black metal base into territories populated by gothic and death rock artists like FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM and SISTERS OF MERCY as well as avant-garde purveyors Caspar Brotzmann and Live Skull while never forgetting – or being able to – scrape the grime of NYC from under his fingernails. The addition of a second guitar and live keyboards/samples brought a fuller sound and allowed noise sequences and soundscapes to be brought to the live show. It was around the time of 2016 'All Empires Fall' EP that TOMBS punctuated its iconoclastic spirit and thought process. Despite then-being part of the Relapse Records family, the band struck out with the intent of self-releasing the EP in order to retain as much independence as contractual obligations would allow – retaining the digital and publishing rights while eventually licensing the record back to Relapse. A one album stint in 2017 under the Metal Blade banner birthed 'The Grand Annihilation' into the world where TOMBS took broader and more daring steps into buffering black metal with morose melody, sullen death rock and classic METALLICA chugging. Following a parting from Metal Blade, the band – now completed by drummer Justin Spaeth, guitarist Matt Medeiros and bassist Drew Murphy, who are also 3/4ths of New Jersey death metal crew KALOPSIA - quickly found a home on Season of Mist and issued the 'Monarchy of Shadows' EP literally a week before the world went into Coronavirus lockdown.

“The original strategy assumed we would be on the road for most of 2020,” says Hill with a lamenting laugh. “We had a sick tour with Napalm Death planned right after the EP’s release. We were going to record the new full-length before the tour and have it come out in the fall. There was all kinds of tour talk and plans and 2020 would have been a tour-de-force of TOMBSactivity in the United States and Europe. Obviously, none of that is happening, but we’re still going ahead with the record.”

Of course they are. Throw a hurdle in front of Mike Hill and he’ll never shy at rolling up his sleeves and taking on the challenge. Even with the world in shutdown mode, Hill is still brimming with enthusiasm about the input and work ethic of the current TOMBS lineup and how Spaeth, Mederios and Murphy stepped up to the plate in the creation of 'Under Sullen Skies'.
“Everyone contributes on this record and the door has always been open for others to do so. There has always been this misconception that I’m some sort of tyrant always telling people what to do and play. The fact of the matter is that most of the time I outwork people; that’s just the way I am. No one is ever going to outwork me on any level in any area of my life and I was always coming up with material. Now, I have these maniacs in the band who are equally motivated and there’s a whole new life injected into TOMBS. That’s awesome and I love it. These days we’ll try anything and we actually write stuff and throw it out because it’s not perfect. It’s more like a writing committee, which I really appreciate. It’s not just me writing everything. It’s a big difference from 'The Grand Annihilation' which was basically a solo record.”

'Under Sullen Skies' is this lineup’s second kick at twisting black metal’s DNA around dank emotional corners, psychological turmoil and the urban underbelly all of which is unavoidably coloured and touched by the present-day status of life on this here Earth.

“The album’s title came during all this and the sort of post-apocalyptic world we’re living in,” Hill explains. “It encapsulates an overall feeling of gloom and depression which is pretty much how we’ve been living for most of this year. The title was the last piece to fall into place. I remember standing on the roof of the building I was living in at the time on a grey day and it was raining – actually, it wasn’t even raining; it was a half-assed attempt at rain! – and depressing and I just thought, ‘What a sullen sky’ and it just stuck with me.”

The album starts with “Bone Collector,” a furious blast of melodic black metal that shifts gears towards an anthemic fist-pumping slog through the goth rock-thrash metal VENN DIAGRAM. “Void Constellation” takes as many cues from Peaceville Three gloom and doom as it does the death metal stomp of OBITUARY and INCANTATION. “Descensum” mines the various well-worn parts of Ride the Lightning for influence before blasting the doors open with some startlingly spacious chromatic single-note atonality. As the album progresses, further textures and moods are employed via acoustic instrumentation and keyboards as well as sampled soundscapes all butting heads with furious second wave black metal and sly to nods to death rock heroes SISTERS OF MERCY and FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM, all of the band’s motivations and interests being dropped into the chameleonic pair of tracks closing the album, “Sombre Ruin” and the appropriately titled “Plague Years.”

“‘Barren’ stands out as the song that’s most collaborative,” notes Hill. “Justin wrote the bulk of the riffs on that one, that sort of NWOBHM/SCORPIONS ending part is something I came up with, Matt added a bunch of guitar harmonies over it and Drew’s bass is laid thick underneath. That one is one of the biggest group efforts and one of the strongest songs on the record.

“I explore a lot of the archetypes that are used in folklore on this record, like werewolves and vampires which I’ve always been interested in, and on a song like ‘Secrets of the Black Sun’ I talk about the finite nature of our time on this planet, that nothing is really permanent and being aware of that whether as an individual or as a civilization, which I guess fits in with the pandemic and the changes that are going on. There are all kinds of other people, civilizations and creatures that have come and gone long before us and if you think about it over a long enough time span, everyone’s life expectancy goes down to zero.”

The new album not only sees Hill expanding his creative and collaborative comfort zone by wholly embracing the offerings of his band mates, but he’s also let down the drawbridge to allow folks from beyond the immediate TOMBSfamily to include what he describes as “mad guest spots.”

“There’s Cat Cabral, who does the spoken word piece on ‘Angel of Darkness.’ She’s not a musician per se; she’s more from the occult and witchcraft world. I’ve been friends with her for a really long time and she’s a great resource for esoteric knowledge. She’s also an actress who has done plays and commercials and been in films, so I figured she’d be the perfect person to deliver dialogue in an emotionally deep way, and be good at taking direction. Ray Suhy from SIX FEET UNDER rips the guitar solo in ‘Barren’ and that solo is its own masterpiece, in my opinion. BLACK CROWN INITIATE and former TOMBS live guitarist Andy Thomas contributed a guitar solo in ‘Void Constellation.’ Todd Stern from PSYCROPTIC plays the solo in ‘Mortem.’ Sera Timms from IDES OF GEMINI and BLACK MATH HORSEMAN does guest vocals on ‘Secrets of the Black Sun.’ We’ve got INTEGRITY’s Dwid Hellion singing the chorus on ‘The Hunger’ and BLACK ANVIL’s Paul Delaney also doing a couple of verses on ‘Angel of Darkness.’ So, yeah, there are a bunch of people on there and it’s like a community effort which I enjoy. I like involving people I respect and having them be a part of the whole thing.”

After spending his entire adult life navigating the pitfalls and pratfalls of the industry for expressive and creative opportunity, Hill has amassed an impressive legacy, one that 'Under Sullen Skies' contributes to admirably and irreverently. Like most, the extreme music underground lifer and veteran is probably justified in approaching the future with very muted optimism, but while the world works at screwing its head back on straight, Hill is going to do what he wants to do as well as he possibly can. Uncertainty may reign at the moment, but Hill and TOMBS are still going to do their thing and will be content to please themselves in the process. If anyone else happens to be along for the ride, then welcome aboard.

“'Under Sullen Skies' is a dark and introspective album,” he asserts. “It’s not a happy record that anyone is going to use to get pumped up on a Friday night. We wanted to pull out the stops, go full-on and make a nice body of work. I could care less if anyone likes the band or not because I’ve been through so many ups and downs with this thing that I don’t give a fuck if people enjoy the music. I know I like it, I know the guys in the band like it and we’re just rocking and rolling. This record and the EP came out about as close as I could imagine to what I have in my brain about how this band should sound. The whole trajectory of the band has had each record never quite hitting, but 'Monarchy of Shadows' and 'Under Sullen Skies' have both really come out how I envisioned the songs to be.”

Indie label COP International Records continues its rapid growth in 2021, proudly announcing the signing of the newest artist to its label roster, Stoneburner. The post-industrial music and art project is the latest from prolific multimedia creative Steven Archer. Baltimore-based Archer is also known for co-founding the darkwave gothic rock duo Ego Likeness (Metropolis Records) with Donna Lynch that formed in 1999 and has successfully released several albums and completed several tours in Europe.

Stoneburner is steeped in sci-fi themes and is inspired by many of the otherworldly fiction Archer likes to read and the accompanying videos for each song that Archer self-produces are mired in these themes as well. The project’s name is taken from a weapon from the science fiction novel Dune; Archer’s once guiding light for the project was seeking to answer the question, “What would dance music on Dune planet Arrakis sound like?”

The new album, Apex Predator, takes a different turn in perspective for Stoneburner, becoming more personal and internalized for Archer. He says, “For this album, I decided to write music that I feel addresses the ways modern industrial music falls short. Focusing not on dance floors and clubs but writing songs with intelligent lyrics that speak to the human condition, both in general and based on my own personal experience.”

Apex Predator is set to be released by COP International Records in 2021 and will be produced by the lauded John Fryer whose production credits include Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and Love & Rockets. Fryer also acts as COP International’s A&R agent. The album will be a follow-up to Stoneburner’s last self-released LP Technology Implies Belligerence. Says Archer of that release, “It was the industrial record that I have been promising myself I would make for my entire life."

In the past year, the inexhaustible creative has produced 3 EPs, a mini full-length of original Stoneburner material, two records of instrumental soundscape tracks, and three EPs of covers, along with 15 videos—and looks forward to bringing this same level of creative output to his new relationship with COP International.

In addition to his music works, Archer has also made a career in fine art and commission works as well as writing, including crafting an illustrated version of Edgar Allen Poe's "Masque of the Red Death," which is on the preliminary ballot for the Stoker Award category for Excellence in a Graphic Novel. As well, he wrote a children’s book called Luna Maris and can be found selling his artwork at shows when on tour.

Stoneburner has toured with Voltaire and Archer has worked with a range of contemporaries on remixes, including Information Society, Primitive Race, The Last Dance, Angelspit, I:Scintilla, The Cruxshadows, Noir, Gentleman Junkie, Lame Immortelle, Helalyn Flowers, Black Tape For A Blue Girl and Inertia. In 2014, he was commissioned by NASA to write a score for a promotional video for their “Bennu” program and his ongoing work has also been used in a number of films and documentaries.

Of the label signing, Archer says, “I am very excited to sign to COP International Records. I’ve been in this game a long time and I really appreciate how forward-thinking the label is — they are running their business exactly the way I would in the current climate, focusing on developing a small group of quality and hand-picked artists. I’m very proud to be among that group!”

COP International Records Founder Christian Petke adds, "I'm so thrilled to have Stoneburner on our roster. Steven inspires me as it feels he has picked up the torch for industrial music's origins, a time when the genre's lineage to punk was apparent and bands really took a stand. The events of the last year have brought us full circle and Stoneburner has used that as creative momentum, combining the raw noise and anger of industrial music with lyrics that speak of a world that is rather dark and ever-shifting, real, and sometimes outright scary. There is a burning passion in his heart and music and I find that incredibly attractive. I can’t wait to see what Steven and John Fryer cook up together, but know it will be something that will hit you like a ton of bricks."

More announcements regarding Stoneburner will be forthcoming in 2021.

Mark is often asked about the track he co-wrote and recorded with Michael Bolton which is, for melodic rock fans, one of the better tracks from the singer. As he is holed up in Stockholm, Sweden during the current pandemic, Mark took the time to walk us through how he got that classic 80’s keyboard sound. Mark looks back, “A nice memory of recording Fool's Game with Michael...ah those chops and power chords. I didn't want to settle for just piano...wanted to push the envelope a bit.”

Wayne Hussey, frontman of Leeds' post-punk legendsThe Mission has provided further insight into his newest projectReMission Internationaland their 'TOS2020' project, which involvedre-envisioning the anthemic hit 'Tower Of Strength'. This commentary can be found in Part 1 and Part 2 of an interview based on crowd-sourced questions. Hussey recalls: “When Covid-19 hit I started receiving messages asking ‘why don’t you re-issue Tower Of Strength for the front line workers?’ The song had apparently been adopted as an anthem by some NHS workers, and it got me thinking that I would like to contribute something to the greater cause at this unprecedented time and the only thing I could really contribute is music. So in conjunction with my good friend Michael Ciravolo, I came up with the idea of recording a new version of Tower Of Strength for charity by enlisting the help of musician friends and acquaintances.”

Austin's Arrows To Fire release Harley Davidson-inspired 'I'm Supersonic', mixed by iconic producer Tim Palmer

“Next level rock music” ~ Soundsphere Magazine

“Band to watch... solid, heartfelt, blazing tracks” ~ Indie Rock Cafe

“It’s rock, but it’s still sort of romantic and sexy” ~ Lisa Fletcher, Arlyn Studios

"This is rock in its rawest spirit, with flying guitars and recalling the best of 90s college rock" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"Very catchy guitar riffs... fills in the cracks for anyone craving that early rich span between 80s American college rock and the early 90s sound that spawned such bands as Counting Crows, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, and Spin Doctors" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

Austin-based indie rockers Arrows To Fire have announced their new single 'I'm Supersonic', hot on the trail of their pandemic-inspired single 'A Million Miles Away', a guitar-driven track that was inspired by struggles experienced during the current pandemic.

Driven by solid guitar power, their sound is in keeping with a tradition of ’90s-rooted alternative rock, only with a current twist.

Just as the previous single 'I'm Supersonic' was mixed by legendary producer Tim Palmer (David Bowie's Tin Machine, The Mission, HIM, U2, Robert Plant, Tears For Fears, Ozzy Osbourne, Goo Goo Dolls, Pearl Jam).

A US-French collaboration, Arrows To Fire is Austin native John Joyo on vocals and French/American guitarist Chris Lavigne (guitarist, composer), who warns listeners about this single “Get ready for a ride and rock on".

"Chris and I both love Harley Davidson motorcycles and both love anything that goes fast. "I’m Supersonic" is written from the perspective of a vintage 74 cubic inch Harley Davidson Shovelhead motor," says John Joyo.

"Even though it’s old, it has guts and will kick your ass every time you ride it. This motor is psyched out of its mind to be ridden hard and can’t wait to melt your face off. We basically channeled the energy of one of the baddest motors ever built into this song. Hopefully people will feel that when they hear it!”

Joyo and Lavigne - both biotech entrepreneurs - first met in 2016 during a meeting about medical devices. They soon discovered a shared passion for alternative rock and strong desire to use music as a forum to address varied subjects - both personal and political. It didn’t take long for them to find common ground in sound and grow a path that led to releasing their 2016 debut album.

The band has since blazed its way onto the alternative rock scene with their 2018 album 'Here We Go' and a series of YouTube videos that have racked up nearly a million views collectively, most notably for 'This is Here', underlining the song’s call to action for planetary preservation. Indie Rock Cafe listed Arrows to Fire a band to watch after their 2018 South By Southwest debut. Amazon’s music curators were equally impressed, including their cover of Golden Earring's 'Radar Love' in their epic Open Road Amazon Original playlist.

Their songmanship influenced by Pearl Jam, Kings of Leon, The Killers, Foo Fighters, The Presidents of the United States of America, Band of Horses, The Hives, Fu Manchu and Weezer, but Chris Lavigne notes, "It’s important to us that we don’t box ourselves in too much or stick to the same sound all of the time because we like to approach music like we approach life - be adventurous, try new things, and be open to inspiration that could come to you from anywhere or from any type of music. We like to think that comes through in the variety of sounds you’ll hear in our new music."

'I'm Supersonic' will be released on February 18 and will be available across online stores such as Apple Music, and streaming platforms such as Spotify.

ERDVE Announces Virtual Performance Filmed in Lukiškės Prison

ERDVE is proud to announce the live stream of a very special live performance that took placve at Lukiškės Prison in Vilnius, Lithuania in September 2020. The stream will launch on February 27, 2021 12:00 P.M. EST. Tickets are available HERE

Image 2-20-21 at 11.27 AM.JPG

ERDVE comments on the stream: "Our goal was to enhance the eerie atmosphere of the prison architecture with our musical performance, yet you could still feel the smell and the surrounding energy from the recent prison life. We are happy to be able to share this documented footage shot by NO BRAKE productions, providing an intimate look from multiple points of view. Having such an event during a calmer period of the pandemic was a challenge that could've left us with nothing, but we have managed to do this before any harsh restrictions were reinstated. Since this show had a very limited capacity due to the Covid regulations, we made sure to capture this experience in a professional manner and provide an opportunity to those who didn't have a chance to attend the event or would like to revisit it at home."

About the event:
This show is probably the last chance for anyone to see the inside of the prison and how it looked like since it was built in 1905. Lukiškės Prison is inactive since 2019 and is now closed for renovation. The stage is set up in a round 4-level hall which is a main part of a 1st prison block that used to serve as a death row for prisoners a while ago. After the death penalty became prohibited in 1998, the 1st prison block was only for prisoners serving a life-sentence right until 2019 relocation of inmates to another prison.

ERDVE's are playing in support of their debut album 'Vaitojimas,' which is streaming in full HERE. ERDVE will be releasing a brand new album in the Summer of 2021. More info about the new offering will soon be available.

Heavy insanity drips atmospherically out of every crack and crevice of 'Vaitojimas', which translates as "gibberish moaning". The album revolves around a concept of an emotional void filled without any moral barriers to self-satisfy the inner degenerate ranging from the ordinary to the criminally insane. This idea is turned into melodies, rhythm, and sound by ERDVE.

When ERDVE formed in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius in 2016, the band had a clear aesthetic vision of creating a unique heavy sound that experimented with elements from hardcore, sludge, and black metal – yet was not bound by any unwritten "rules" surrounding those genres.

ERDVE's members had already been active in their local scene and performed in various acts such as NYKSTA, SRAIGĖS EFEKTAS, and SPIRALE. A self-made tape version of their debut made its rounds in underground circles and the Lithuanians received the rare honour of being picked straight out of the dreaded demo pile by virtue of their musical strength and compelling quality.

The core ideas behind ERDVE are translated into lyrics, visuals, and sound by in-depth reflection on concepts such as domestic violence, utmost disgusting behaviour, crimes against humanity, and extremism.

With 'Vaitojimas', ERDVE are planting a fresh Baltic landmark, a largely unexplored region, into the international metal scene so far. Begin your journey into the new Lithuanian darkness!

Hail The Sun get heavy on new single “Parasitic Cleanse” New Age Filth out 4/16 on Equal Vision Records

STREAM: “Parasitic Cleanse”

Chico, CA genre-benders Hail The Sun are back with new single “Parasitic Cleanse” and accompanying music video out today via Equal Vision Records. The song marks the second preview from their upcoming Kris Crummett produced album, New Age Filth, out April 16th. “Parasitic Cleanse” is an expressive blast of energy, winding through rapid guitar lines and bombarding drums. Donovan Melero gives a serious vocal attack right off the bat, perfecting his mix of screaming and singing akin to greats like Daryl Palumbo (Glassjaw) and Keith Buckley (Every Time I Die). You can watch the video for “Parasitic Cleanse” here now and stream the song here.

Melero describes the story behind the track best, stating:

“Humans have been so terrible to each other throughout history. One way this is justified is by one side feeling that the other side isn't really human. If the attacking party can convince its followers that their enemies are less than human, it becomes easier to do horrific things as a larger group. The first atom bomb came with unthinkable carnage, but it was sold to the public as necessary, and the after-effects hidden from the general population for many years.”

When Hail The Sun entered the studio to record what would become New Age Filth, they knew they were setting out to make their most collaborative and diverse album yet. The band, consisting of Donovan Melero (vocals/drums), Aric Garcia (guitar), John Stirrat (bass), and Shane Gann (guitar), spent a month living in an apartment attached to producer Kris Crummett’s studio which provided a much different experience from the creation of prior albums. The result is ten songs that find the band pushing their creative boundaries in every way. They’re heavier and poppier at the same time, proving their ability to be extremely technical in instrumentation while also unleashing some of the catchiest hooks they’ve ever created. The influence from genre-melding predecessors like Coheed and Cambria, At The Drive-In, and even Yes is apparent, but the sound is still very much a natural evolution from Hail The Sun’s past work.

The shifting musical compositions on New Age Filth perfectly accompany the emotive lyrical outpour found across the album. Continuing along the theme of reflection, Melero weaves through painful and emotional experiences of love, cynicism, and touches on how awful humans can be to one another. New Age Filth is sure to appease Hail The Sun’s powerful fanbase, who have been clamoring for more from the band since the release of 2018’s Mental Knife, and newcomers alike.

SEPTEMBER MOURNING Release Official Music Video for New Single, "Kill This Love" Volume IV Out Summer 2021!

Hard Rock, Graphic Novel Art Project SEPTEMBER MOURNING storms into 2021 with a visually stunning music video for their newest single, "Kill This Love." "’Kill this Love’ is the musical adaptation of a specific feeling.... the heaviness one feels in their heart when it becomes the obvious prey of someone or something they cannot escape from.

The music alternates back and forth from heavy to sparse in an almost agitated way as to depict the emotional rollercoaster of the lyric.

As pertaining to the comic, ‘Kill this Love’ depicts the inner struggle of the protagonist September as she looks back on her battle with Fate and the strange pull he seems to have over her. She struggles internally with her desire to fight for what she loves and the pain it brings her.” - SEPTEMBER

Only accessible for 48 hours

FOLLOWING THE RELEASE OF THE NEW ALBUM ‘ALL THE RIGHT NOISES’
OUT MARCH 12TH 2021 ON BMG

Thunder have announced an online TV special, where they will exclusively perform tracks from their forthcoming album ‘All The Right Noises’, as well as some of their classic hits from years gone by.

The show will take place at 2:00 P.M Eastern U.S Time on Saturday, March 13th 2021 and will be streamed for 48 hours afterwards, enabling ticket buyers to watch as many times as they like during that period.

The live studio performance will be filmed with adherence to Covid-19 restrictions, and will feature collaborators who played and sang on ‘All The Right Noises’.

Singer, Danny Bowes says of the forthcoming show, "As soon as we made the announcement to move our arena shows back to 2022, we decided we can't wait until then to play the new tunes. Fans have been asking us for a streamed gig since the first lock down began, but we've resisted until now, because it can't be a proper Thunder live show without them in the room. The format we've come up with will involve our fan club members via video for some of it, so they'll see us performing, and get to ask us questions too. It's not the same as a live show, but it's not meant to be. When the show goes out, we're hoping it'll feel less like a gig, and more like a TV show, with us playing these brilliant new tunes, and loads of screaming nutters in their front rooms. What can go wrong?"

For tickets & full info on how to watch, visit: https://thunderband.lnk.to/TVspecialPR

Thunder Channel (Patreon) fanclub members will also be given exclusive access to watch sections of the filming as it takes place, and take part in a Q&A session with the band via video.

Finnish Melodic Death/Doom Unit MARIANAS REST Release Second Single and Official Video “South Of Vostok”

New Album, Fata Morgana, out March 12

Pre-Order NOW

Sophomore Record, Ruins, Reissued on Vinyl for the First Time

“Where no one can ever see, we set ourselves on fire” - “South Of Vostok”

Hailing from the Finnish coastal town of Kotka, melodic death/doom metal strikers MARIANAS REST will release their third grand studio album, Fata Morgana, on March 12 via Napalm Records, impressively showcasing their dedication to merging heavy riffs, hypnotizing soundscapes and impetuous tempo-changes into a heartfelt force once more.

After unveiling their first sophisticated offering, “Glow From The Edge”, the Finns now set free their next hauntingly melancholic output, “South Of Vostok”: Fata Morgana's final epos starts off with Finnish wording that underlines the origin of the six-piece. With feral yet sensitive vocals as well as a harmonizing instrumental performance, MARIANAS RESTskillfully create a cohesive symbiosis of sound that allows every note to unfold its captivating power in the most appropriate way. The song's name comes from a place in Antarctica and a Russian research station named Vostok located there - one of the coldest and most hostile places towards life in the whole world, if not the coldest of all.

The record's open ending goes along with the narrator's physical and mental journey. Will he just give up, or will he hold onto some spark of hope, looking towards the horizon to start a new chapter? It's up to every listener to decide in the end.

MARIANAS REST on the new single:

“'South of Vostok' is the end of a story. A cathartic pondering on the edge of the world where frost turns to fire.” - Jaakko, vocals

“It is a mix of hope and desperation. A journey through ugliness towards something more beautiful.” - Nico M., guitar.

MARIANAS REST deliver the colossal next chapter in their introspective melodic death/doom parable!

Fata Morgana marks the final chapter of a trilogy that began when MARIANAS RESTreleased their first full-length, 2016’s Horror Vacui, followed by the critically acclaimed full-length Ruins (2019). The series encompasses themes of isolation, eventual mental collapse and emergence from that woeful state, respectively - however, the band invites fans to experience the concept from their own perspectives.

The upcoming eight-song epos delivers atmospheric melodies that are as endless and fascinating as the overwhelming beauty of Finnish nature, which tracks like the expressive “The Weight” and authentic “Pointless Tale” are evidence of. Topped by guest appearances from Timo Virkkala, who shares his awesome cello magic, and the bewitching backing vocals of Lindsay Matheson/Schoolcraft (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH), MARIANAS REST take their creative output to the next level and make Fata Morgana a must-have for fans of bands like INSOMNIUM and MY DYING BRIDE.

MARIANAS REST on Fata Morgana:

"Fata Morgana is a voyage into isolation. A passage to a place where minds get distorted by the cold."

Pre-Order your copy of Fata Morgana NOW!
This melodic melancholy is produced by Teemu Aalto (Insomnium, Omnium Gatherum) and MARIANAS REST, recorded and mixed by Teemu Aalto at Teemu Aalto Music Productions and mastered by Svante Forsbäck at Chartmakers, who received a Grammy nomination with Candlemass feat. Tony Iommi for Best Metal Performance

A somber manifest of heavy riffs and grieving melodies

As a special bonus, MARIANAS REST will release a limited edition reissue of their aforementioned second studio album, Ruins, on vinyl for the first time ever on March 12, 2021 via Napalm Records. Unleashed back in April 2019, the Finns’ full-length tells the story of how a mind slowly crumbles, about introversion, putting up mental walls and eventually disappearing inside your own head.

LA-based psych rockers Tombstones In Their Eyes present trippy 'FEAR' single

Los Angeles’ indie psych rock outfit Tombstones in Their Eyes present their new single 'FEAR' from their 'Collection' anthology-like double album, released via Somewherecold Records. This timely collection of 19 sonorous and hazy tracks is available in various formats.

With a penchant for also taking music lovers on a visual trip, the band has also shared videos for 'Silhouhette' and 'I Can't See The Light'.

Recently transformed from a quartet to trio when bassist Mike Masonmoved from LA, the band now consists of John Treanor (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Stephen Striegel (drums, percussion) and Josh Drew(bass) with Paul Boutin (guitar) coming on board for future shows and recordings. Their melodic wall of sound reveals cavernous, stoner lullabies, wrapped in dark shoegazing dreamscapes that descend into post-rock soundscapes.

This compilation brings together select tracks from past releases, including their debut album 'Sleep Forever', subsequent 'Bad Clouds', 'Fear' and 'Nothing Here' EPs, as well as the standaline single 'Shutting Down'. The songs on this album were mainly recorded at L.A.’s Kitten Robot Studio with Paul Roessler (Nina Hagen, The Deadbeats, The Screamers, 45 Grave), all tracks have been remastered for this release and some have also been remixed.

Tombstones' songs are personal, exploring the writer's feelings, doubts, fears and hopes. The period covers from 'Sleep Forever', which came out in 2015, so these songs cover about 5 years of songwriting and show the progression of the band's sound from their first studio sessions until their 2019 album 'Maybe Someday'.

"Collection is just that, a collection of our songs that we wanted to gather together and put out into the world, remastered (and in some cases remixed) in one nice package. We took the songs from our first record that most fit our sound, and gathered the other songs from our various EP’s and singles," says John Treanor.

"Sometimes EP’s and singles don’t get the attention that albums do, and we wanted to give these songs that chance. Also, none of this material has ever been released on vinyl, so we wanted to rectify that. It’s basically the best of our back catalog in either a double LP or double CD format."

'Collection' is now available on limited edition double vinyl and double CD through Somewherecold Records and digitally everywhere, including iTunes and Spotify. It can also be ordered directly from the artist via Bandcamp.

"Slow codeine-laden bliss or drug-numbing love translated into sonic form. It’s astoundingly fresh, slow core perfectly-balanced with alternative rock"Big Takeover Magazine

"A wall-trembling, skin-crawling, psychedelic-drenched, shoegaze number... Together, they bottle up a raging, Midwestern storm and unleash its fury"The Revue

"Wistful and otherworldly vocals.. a druggy and melancholic trip but counterbalanced with a soaring and hopeful chorus. A worthy endeavour"Overblown Magazine

“Particularly American form of shoegaze, and SoCal variant at that. They bring out the dirty, distorted, deranged, drug-addled amplifier worship of proto-Shoegaze acts like Dinosaur Jr., Husker Du, and J&MC inherent of the early Shoegaze classics and arc-welds them to some Josh Homme‘s Desert Sessions creosote-soaked psych rock”Emerald Tablet Collective

"Skyscraping yet graceful, muscular yet intelligent... Masters of such brilliantly conflicted music and over a series of releases have carved their names above the cavernous musical maw that few are brave enough to follow them into"Dancing About Architecture

London artist Distant Voices releases invigorating debut single 'Lights of The City'

"Loud, swift, positive and loaded with youthful adventure... An uber-rad track with upbeat tempo and high expectations as the author sets off across Europe on a quest for fun and discovery. We love it and so will you" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"Hybrid child of Iggy Pop and Kenny Logins, this is one artist who should definitely be on your radar for 2021. High energy, positive vibes, and a vivacity that makes you want to get on the dance floor and rip it!" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"A styled hook and a vibrant sense of musical self" ~ Jammerzine

Straddling several genres at the same time, Distant Voices has announced the forthcoming album 'Long Road To Home'. Ahead of this, they are previewing the high-velocity rock n' roll lead single 'Lights of The City' complete with a fast-moving video, created by Alit Gonzalez.

Based in London, Distant Voices is the solo project of Valdis Stekelis, who wrote and began writing these tracks in 2019, finally finishing a year later due to the delayed realities of the UK lockdown. The band name itself was chosen during that period to reflect these unusual times, where live music (as we have previously experienced it) is a scarce occurrence and where we consume music with a less personal connection to the people making it.

Like the tracks on the album as a whole, 'Lights of the City' was inspired by Stekelis' travels around Europe, based on events from that extensive journey. This lead track reflects the beginning of this trip with all its excitement and promise, but also a light sense of anxiety about what lies ahead.

This album was recorded at EAS Studios near London in collaboration with producer-engineer Ed Sokolowski, who has worked on albums by Melanie C, Fleur East, Hugel, David Archuleta and Lukas Rieger. Sokolowki mixed and mastered this album, as well as co-producing it with Stekelis. Joe Montague also contributes drums on multiple tracks.

"This is the first body of work completed under the Distant Voices name, which I am very keen for people to hear and hope that they will enjoy it. The album was inspired by events that happened during my journey around Europe in 2019 and, in fact, they appear chronologically in the track listing," says Valdis Stekelis.

"There is a range of different feeling tracks on the album – from lively to melancholy and also psychedelic. They are tied together - both in terms of the subject matter and also due to the underlying elements of a retro feel with electronic flavour. It was a lot of fun to make and is truly inspired by events that really affected me at the time".

As of February 17, 'Lights of The City' is available everywhere digitally, including Spotify and Apple Music. The 'Long Road to Home' album will be released on March 26 and can already be pre-ordered from the artist via Bandcamp.
