EMPTINESS Unveils New Song, "Vide, Incomplet"

"Emptiness is an old man, isolated for too long, bitter, he's changing again."

Belgian dark metal outfit EMPTINESS have shared the new song, "Vide, incomplet," which is the third and final single from their upcoming full-length, 'Vide.' The song can be heard at THIS LOCATION.

The brand new Emptiness track 'Vide, incomplet' , taken from the band's upcoming new album 'Vide'. Release date: February 12th, 2021.Directed by Ivan Galasse...

EMPTINESS comment om the track: "Humans are fun."

'Vide' is due on february 12 and is completely produced by vocalist/bass player Jérémie Bézier, who is trying to create something authentic and avoid all external energies. The tracking mostly happenened during the Belgian lockdown, in his apartment and rooftop 7th floor in Brussels. Pre-orders are now available HERE.

The shape-shifting Belgian quartet EMPTINESS returns with 'Vide,' their first new album in four years. 'Vide' (the French word for empty) sees the band veer away from the mechanical foreboding of 2017's 'Not For Music' into a more introspective and deconstructed direction. It unfolds like a fever dream, with each track falling into hazy rhythmic patterns and featuring haunting vocals that hang in the ether.

Founded in Europe's center of gravity, Brussels (BE), in the year 1998, EMPTINESS embarked on their musical journey with a burning vision to delve deep into darkness and horror. While the band was taking musical inspiration from different extreme styles such as black and death metal, the Belgians approached the music in an open minded manner of continuous experimentation.

Following their inception, EMPTINESS first released the two demos 'Eternal Rising' (2000) and 'Necrorgy' (2002) that received a remarkable welcome in the underground. Yet with each new album, 'Guilty to Exist' (2004), 'Oblivion' (2007), 'Error' (2012), and 'Nothing but the Whole' (2014), the Belgians were also increasingly leaving a mark in mainstream music press.

EMPTINESS scored the devil's luck and won the perfect production set-up to create new sinister soundscapes during the recordings of 'Not For Music' in 2017. After recording in their own Blackout Studio, the Belgians received an invitation to further enhance the production of 'Not for Music' by Jeordie White aka Twiggy Ramirez (MARILYN MANSON, A PERFECT CIRCLE, NINE INCH NAILS). The final mix and mastering was done by Sean Beavan (GUNS N' ROSES, NIN, SLAYER).

'Vide' (2021) was meant as a claustrophobic album, a journey of an infinite mind stuck into a world too small. Questioning the essence of once perceptions, this album invites you to rethink your grasp of reality. To that end, it was important for EMPTINESS to be isolated during its experimentations. Recordings would take place sometimes in confined spaces like apartments or a cabin in the woods, and sometimes on a city roof allowing to contemplate a strange human world from above. Involvement was strictly limited to the band members who took care of all audio production and visuals work. The pandemic and lockdown happened while recording was in progress; a materialization of the imaginary world being created. The album either by coincidence or not, is in tune with our dissonant times.

Newly-staffed femme Thrash Metal engine NERVOSA releases their explosive third single, “Under Ruins”, cut from their upcoming full-length album, Perpetual Chaos, to be released this Friday on January 22nd, 2021 via Napalm Records.

As a harbinger of their new record, Diva Satanica’s powerful and aggressive vocals draw the listener into the heavy vortex of NERVOSA’s pure energy. Along with an official music video, the new track highlights the difficult topic of a homeless child left to survive on the streets.

NERVOSA’s upcoming full length Perpetual Chaos marks the beginning of a new era whilst also underlining their straight-forward lyricism and style: From political grievances and amplifying the voices of minorities to protesting against factory farming, capitalism and succumbing to the ill-informed musings of social elites - these commanding women do not mince words.

Enter a thrashing world of destruction and be a part of the next generation of NERVOSA!

Guitarist Prika Amaral comments:

“It was a wonderful experience with these girls, they are all very talented and did an excellent job, I have never been so happy with the final result of a record. I chose Artesonao studio in Malaga, because it is isolated and in an extremely beautiful place, we worked hard but we had the best vibe between us.”

Pre-Order the new album Perpetual Chaos NOW!

Vocalist Diva Satanica on the album process:

“It was undoubtedly a very intense process in every way. Not only did we learn to work together, but also to get to know each other and live together. I am very lucky to be able to be part of a project like this and I am sure that with the release of this album, NERVOSA will take a very important step in its career. Working with Martin Furia was incredible, he helped me to find nuances in my voice that I didn't know I had. Get ready, for a new era more powerful than ever!”

Guided by a marvelous force of uncompromising thrash and death metal, the raw power of Perpetual Chaos has its finger on the pulse of time: Lyrically, NERVOSA does not hesitate to tackle issues that impact the very core of society as we know it. Tracks like the airtight opener “Venomous”, the fast-twitching “Until The Very End” and “Time To Fight” prove that NERVOSA’s revitalized identity experiments with both fresh new elements and crucial auditory foundations without succumbing to any clichés. “Genocidal Command” perks ears with Diva Satanica’s vocal eloquence, accented by the outstanding range of Schmier (DESTRUCTION) whilst mirroring a rousing thrash metal manifest. A tremendous outcome awaits with brawl-brushed guitar lines, blisteringly fast drums and critical lyricism – striking the listener in a way only NERVOSA could. Viva Perpetual Chaos!

Perpetual Chaos will be available in North America in the following formats:

SECRET SPHERE ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM "LIFEBLOOD"

DUE MARCH 12, 2021 VIA FRONTIERS MUSIC SRL

SINGLE + VIDEO FOR THE TITLE TRACK OUT NOW

Italian power/progressive metallers Secret Sphere are back with a new studio album, “Lifeblood” on March 12, 2021. The album, aside from the deft musical prowess on display, is also special because of the return of original vocalist Roberto Messina. Today, the band has released the single and video for the title track.

Pre-order/save "Lifeblood" HERE: https://orcd.co/secretsphere

Now approaching nearly 25 years of existence, Secret Sphere has been steadily and reliably crafting epic, melodic European metal of the power and progressive variety for their entire careers. With a rejuvenated line-up for their latest album, “Lifeblood” shows a band breathing new life and enjoying themselves.

"I spent the past two years thinking about the future of Secret Sphere and there was something missing. I needed to rediscover the joy in writing music for this band that has been part of my life for more than 20 years. And I'm pleased to say I found it. "Lifeblood" is the celebration of the joy to compose music," says founding member and guitarist Aldo Lonobile

The new album also marks the return of vocalist Roberto Messina to the fold, who fronted the band from 1997 – 2012. The reunion with Roberto takes everything back to those glorious early days for the band, with the same joy and will to make music for fun. “LifeBlood” is the result of this new found power. The album celebrates the classical sound of Secret Sphere with more energy, bombastic arrangements, and memorable choruses. An absolute must hear for not only fans of the band, but European metal fans in general.

Vocalist Roberto Messina says, “"Lifeblood” is the album that celebrates my return to the band, to my old roots, and “home” where I feel inspired and free. It also marks the return of the band Secret Sphere itself to its early unique style of pure, energetic, creative, and melodic power metal. Ten songs composed by a team of true friends, with a fun and metal attitude, killer production, and performances. We kick things off with the direct and aggressive title track, which includes more structured compositions and dreamy atmospheres, all with the guiding thread of catchy riffs and refrains that will remain etched in your memory. What we started more than twenty years ago is stronger than ever today!"

Secret Sphere was founded in summer 1997, born as the brainchild of the talented guitarist Aldo Lonobile. The band debuted in 1999 with the album “Mistress Of The Shadowlight” and has been a fixture in the European scene ever since with their albums “A Time Nevercome” (2001), “Scent Of Human Desire” (2003), “Heart & Anger” (2005), “Sweet Blood Theory” (2008), “Archetype” (2010), “Portrait Of A Dying Heart” (2012), and “The Nature Of Time” (2017).

Over the years the band has toured with King Diamond, Gamma Ray, and played festivals all over Europe.

Founding member Aldo Lonobile is also a successful producer and has produced album for artists like Zachary Stevens’ (TSO, ex-Savatage) new band Archon Angel, Geoff Tate (ex-Queensryche), Timo Tolkki (ex-Stratovarius), and more.

TEMPERANCE has released a brand new song off their upcoming acoustic EP Melodies Of Green And Blue! Among six acoustic renditions off Viridian, “Evelyn” is one of two brand new songs off the melodic/symphonic metal outfit’s new acoustic EP. After many years of band history and tours with genre giants like NIGHTWISH, Luca Turilli's RHAPSODY and TARJA, TEMPERANCE will release, Melodies Of Green And Blue, on February 19, 2021 via Napalm Records.

Right from the start of the song, “Evelyn” sets the tone for a one of a kind acoustic ballad. Alessia Scolletti, Marco Pastorino and Michele Guaitoli each show off their powerful vocal abilities before coming together for the final, cathartic chorus, backed by marvelous acoustic soundscapes.

Guitarist & Singer Marco Pastorino about “Evelyn”:

„I‘ve had that song in my mind for a long time, inspired by Evelyn McHale, the protagonist from one of the most famous photos ever, a girl who died jumping from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building in New York. Evelyn is a sort of journey through her life, doubts, questions without answers, guided by a different song, a different style we‘ve never presented before. Close your eyes and begin to relax into this acoustic world...“

Singer Michele Guaitoli comments on the Melodies Of Green And Blue EP:

"We’ve been talking about recording some acoustic versions of our tracks for a long time, as we all love the intimate and emotional feeling that this particular style can offer to any tracks. If you think of it, this is how most of our songs are composed: it’s Marco on his guitar or me on the piano. Everything for us begins in acoustic before going metal.

This EP is a little dream come true, as we can finally show the heart of our music in its purest version."

Legendary producer John Fryer presents his latest single 'Nocturnal'under the Black Needle Noise moniker, featuring Croatian-Australian soprano Helena Mamich.

This single follows close on the trails of BNN's 'These Mortal Covers'album, a covers-based album, released via Cleopatra Records and involving collaborations with a handful of varied vocalists, including Anjela Piccard, Pinky Turzo, Beca, Tom Berger, Magic Rebecca Coseboom, and Betty X.

"I had made the music and was talking to my good friend Marija Buljeta and said I was looking for an opera singer for it and as luck would have it she was friends with Helena Mamich, who she recommended to me and the rest is herstory as they say. Helena has worked wonders on this song and we give you 'Nocturnal'", says John Fryer.

"Adding the dark voice into the context of darkness we get Nocturnal" or the Latin proverb "De nocte Consilium", explains Helena Mamich.

As one of the most innovative sonic architects in our age, “John Fryer has practically soundtracked your entire life” (Impose Magazine). His musical imprint is massive, having shaped the sound of bands from Nine Inch Nails and Cocteau Twins to HIM and Depeche Mode. He is also one of just two masterminds behind This Mortal Coil (along with Ivo Watts-Russell – not only producing, but also keyboards, strings and synthesizer sequencing).

John Fryer started his career in 1979 at London’s Blackwing Studios (London) and soon began working with seminal bands on 4AD, Mute, Rough Trade and Beggars Banquet, including Depeche Mode, The Wolfgang Press and Cocteau Twins. His achievement in helping develop the latter’s pioneering ethereal and ambient sound ultimately led Watts-Russell to recruit Fryer as his partner for This Mortal Coil.

Since then he has produced many iconic artists, including Love and Rockets, Swans, HIM, Cradle of Filth, Clan of Xymox, Nitzer Ebb, Dead Can Dance, Yaz (Yazoo), Xmal Deutschland, Fields of the Nephilim, De/Vision, Stabbing Westward and many others. Fryer has also produced many film soundtracks, such as Seven, Clerks, Johnny Mnemonic, Mortal Kombat, Faust and Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

'Nocturnal' and 'These Mortal Covers' are available everywhere digitally, including Apple Music, Spotify and directly from Black Needle Noise via Bandcamp, along with their debut album 'Before The Tears Came' (CD, vinyl, digital) and following 'Lost In Reflections' LP (vinyl, digital).

Very soon, the good folks at Los Angeles' 33.3 Music Collective will also be offering CDs of the new album exclusively as a gift when you purchase something via the Black Needle Noise website.

Charlie Nieland presents 'Tightrope' single with mystifying video ahead of 'Divisions' LP

"Pressing drum strikes create a restless atmosphere that’s reinforced by brightly winding guitar lines, and Nieland’s heartfelt vocals as he sings socio-politically steeped lyrics” ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"Brings to mind R.E.M. with both music and vocals right in line with the kind of music they put out in their first ten years... Nieland carries it with strength, his voice like a beacon of truth" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"Thoughtful and socially-conscious... Neiland brings a message of hope and a vision for a better future" ~ Rebel Noise

"Nieland approaches such subjects with a musical deftness and sonic poise which may at first belie the poignancy of the message he is sending... he balances shards of guitar noise, beguiling electronica and his imploring vocals" ~ Dancing About Architecture

Tightrope is from the upcoming album Divisions, now on Pre-release at Bandcamp: https://charlienieland.bandcamp.com/album/divisionsVideo directed by B.A Mial...

NYC-based producer indie music veteran Charlie Nieland presents his new single 'Tightrope', an exciting new offering that brings him one step closer to the release of his new 'Divisions' LP. The brilliant accompanying video was directed by visionary B.A Miale.

"Tightrope was written in response to the novel 'Little Liar' by Julia Gray. Reading it brought out for me the similarities of wishing and lying, crossing our fingers for each, and how we can tumble down into our loneliness without seeing the color that surrounds us. The lyrics to the chorus, "The colors run together, The coins are thrown forever, An instrument of trust", jumped out of the air for me and when I picked up the guitar, the music came just as instantly, like the song was waiting for me to find it. It really felt like a gift, with elements of classic British pop crisscrossed with post-punk and shoegaze; ELO meets Psychedelic Furs," says Charlie Nieland.

Video director B.A Miale's interpretation elevates the song into a beautifully surreal tale that opens into a shimmering, slightly nightmarish, wonderland. In terms of her inspiration for this video, she refers to Oscar Wilde: "We are all in hell, but some of us are looking at the stars"

"The storyline was inspired by this intense year we are collectively experiencing, surrounded by death and heartache. Like the protagonist, some of us absolutely need our escapisms to remain sane, even if they render us delusional," says B.A Miale.

Both the song and the video feature Nieland's Lusterlit bandmate Susan Hwang on Janggu, drum kit and vocals. The video stars international cabaret and circus performer Amy Gordon, whose last acting gig was playing a pigeon in the big apple circus until covid shut it down.

This single comes on the trail of several previewed tracks, including 'So Few Have So Much', 'Pawns' and 'Divisions', the video for which was created by Brooklyn-based video director Hypnodoll, presenting a beautifully layered glimpse at the what’s behind the illusion of separateness in this critical moment.

Renowned for tastefully blending post punk, dream pop and progressive rock with sweeping melodies and restless and visceral rhythms, Charlie Nieland has been writing, playing and producing music for decades, with a focus on the atmospheric and the imaginative.

Nieland played power dream pop with the band Her Vanished Grace for over 20 years before establishing himself as a solo artist with a mix of nuanced songwriting and sonic exploration. He is currently half of the literature-inspired songwriting and performing duo Lusterlit with Susan Hwang.

Over the years, Charlie has written and produced material with such notable artists as Debbie Harry, Rufus Wainwright, Dead Leaf Echo, Blondie and Scissor Sisters. He scored the feature film 'The Safety of Objects' (starring Glenn Close), the pilot episode of 'The L Word' on Showtime and the VH-1documentary 'NY77: The Coolest Year in Hell'. Charlie was awarded a Gold record (UK) for his production work on Blondie's 'Greatest Hits Sight & Sound' and achieved a Top 10 Billboard Dance Chart Position with Debbie Harry's single 'Two Times Blue', which he co-wrote and produced.

The 'Divisions' single is available now via Bandcamp. The full album by the same name will be released in March 2021. It can already be pre-ordered directly from the artist.

Philip Parfitt releases 'Mental Home Recordings' LP via A Turntable Friend Records

"Philip Parfitt's songs on Mental Home Recordings possess both scars and genius. If Parfitt's previous work lurked within the sharp garage tradition of Bo Diddley, the Velvets and the Stones, he operates now within a quieter idiom: Nick Drake, Ronnie Lane, Syd Barrett. Quieter but not softer: this record will scrub you raw"Matthew Specktor (The New York Times, GQ, Harper’s, The Paris Review, Fox 2000)

"Imagine a Reed / Dylanesque vocal lacquered in a modern blend of elements of The Church, The Red House Painters and Slowdive… Just listen... Heartfelt and folk-centered with Ride-esque uplifting interjections on the chorus, Parfitt has found an optimal balance between bard and rock star. We love it"Big Takeover Magazine

"All Fucked Up" written, performed and produced by Philip Parfitt Featuring Alex Creepy MojoAlbum: Mental Home RecordingsA Turntable Friend Records, 2020Phil...

Recently signed to UK/ German label A Turntable Friend Records, singer-songwriter Philip Parfitt presents his new album 'Mental Home Recordings', available on limited-edition gatefold colored vinyl, as well as digitally and on CD with a special booklet.

Philip Parfitt is best known as the founder, guitarist, vocalist and primary songwriter of Britain's The Perfect Disaster. Formed in 1980, the alternative rock band released four albums and reached number fifteen on the UK Indie Chart before splitting up in 1991.

Earlier, Parfitt released the singles 'Somebody Called Me In' and 'All Fucked Up' featuring Bordeaux-based psychedelic folk-rock artist Alex Creepy Mojo. The accompanying video, starring actress Melissa Oxlade, is directed by filmmaker Luigi Dias.

Given the quality and the breadth of Parfitt’s output over the past 40 years, it's clear that he’s far more interested in making his art than in talking about it. After all, with his bands The Perfect Disaster, Oediupussy, and in his solo performances, he has shared stages with such luminaries as Nico, Spiritualized, Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine, the Pixies, the Chills, the Jesus and Mary Chain and others.

Parfitt played on Spectrum’s first album with Jason Pierce and guitarist Terry Bickers (House of Love, Levitation) contributed to Oedipussy's album 'Divan'. Parfitt also gave significant starts to Josephine Wiggs (who played in the Perfect Disaster before joining The Breeders) and to the Heliocentrics’ Malcolm Catto, who likewise played on the Perfect Disaster’s first.

It’s a surprise to realize that 'Mental Home Recordings' is only his second solo album, following his 'I'm Not The Man I Use To Be', released in 2014.

When asked where his songs come from, Philip Parfitt says, “I don’t know. I don’t ask, and I don’t often even think about it. I don’t even know what they’re about most of the time. The meaning is only revealed, when at all, later.”

There is a maturity to this artist that allows his songs to reveal themselves to the listener, opening up fresh dimensions. But Parfitt is quick to note that it isn’t simply a matter of passive inspiration. “I always have a pen and notebook and something to record with,” he says. “So even if I don’t know exactly how I’m doing it, I appear to be doing it a lot.”

Awash on a sea of materialism in a time when nearly everything is offered to us as product, it’s a relief to encounter a sensibility like this - one that shines a light into the darkest recesses of our battered psyches. The Velvet Underground, Leonard Cohen, John Cale and Nick Drake did the same - all artists to whom Parfitt’s own output has been compared.

It’s difficult to say where the “defining moment” of a career as long as Parfitt’s is – probably there are several – but 'Mental Home Recordings' is assuredly one. And for an old hand, the new album's release via A Turntable Friend Records is surely navigating familiar waters.

As of October 30, 'Mental Home Recordings’ will be available digitally and on limited purple vinyl and limited black vinyl (both in gatefold sleeve), as well as on CD with a special 8-page booklet. Obtainable via Bandcamp, the detailed artwork is made by painter Fernando Ruibal - a picture puzzle with many things to discover, including on the record shelf.

Candy Opera present 'Tell Me When The Lights Turn Green' from 'The Patron Saint of Heartache' LP

"When Candy Opera first appeared on the kaleidoscopic early 1980s Liverpool music scene, by rights they should have changed the world" ~ Louder Than War

"Very welcome news as a highly underrated band who is now back with a force. While their previous output is stellar, this new single is even more commanding of attention. This is absolutely stunning, the band reaching higher than ever before" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

Candy Opera reveal their brand new sound for 2021!Liverpool's rejuvenated songsmiths release Tell Me When The Lights Turn Green on 15th January 2021, the sec...

Liverpool's rejuvenated songsmiths Candy Opera present their new single 'Tell Me When The Lights Turn Green'. A carefully crafted, country-esque ballad that perfectly expresses Candy Opera’s new sound for 2021, reflecting on all our yearnings with openness and candour, this song has all the sensibilities of a classic ballad.

This is the second single from their new album 'The Patron Saint of Heartache' (released on November 30), their first collection of new material in nearly three decades. This long-awaited debut album is being released via European / UK label A Turntable Friend Records.

As with the first adrenalin-fuelled single from the album, 'These Days Are Ours', this reflective look at adversity was mixed by Grammy award-winning producer Guy Massey and recorded at Liverpool's Elevator Studios and mastered by Pete Maher (Barry Adamson, The Alarm).

“The song is about trying to find a pathway through life and the realisation that the waters will always be muddied but, with determination and desire, the human spirit can pull through and flourish,” says singer-songwriter Paul Malone.

“We all chipped in on filming the video... a big challenge in the pandemic! The water scene is a depiction of change from the old Candy Opera to the new... a kind of baptism or rebirth representing where we are now as a band”.

Candy Opera were formed in Liverpool in 1982 and went through various incarnations before calling it a day in 1992. By 1985, the band had played alongside the likes of The Pogues, The Go-Betweens and The Redskins, as well as appearing on Granada TV. Reviews in NME, Sounds and Jamming magazine followed.

The band's current line-up is drawn from all eras of the band’s existence and features Brian Chin Smithers (guitar, vocals), Alan Currie (drums), Frank Mahon (bass), Paul Malone (vocals, guitar), Ken Moss (guitar) and Gary O'Donnell (keyboards, vocals, percussion).

Following the overdue release of two archival sets - '45 Revolutions Per Minute' and 'Rarities' (released in 2018 by Firestation Records - their new album 'The Patron Saint of Heartache' picks up where the band left off, with 14 fresh songs ready for discovery of a sound as timeless as any Candy Opera output.

'The Patron Saint of Heartbreak' captures the essence of Candy Opera’s infectious energy and celebrates life with a genuine wonder-lust, whilst delivering the excitement of their live performances. There is a musical and spiritual depth and breadth here, from the knockabout naïve rockabilly of 'Hashtag Text Delete' to the quiet acoustic reflection of 'Freedom Song'. It is clear that every song has been painstakingly crafted in order to earn its place in this body of work. This album holds a mirror up to the lives people lead and all the triumphs and heartaches endured.

This new LP also features a swathe of friends and contemporaries, including Paul Simpson (The Wild Swans) and Phil Jones (Afraid of Mice). The result is an exquisite piece of pop craftsmanship that brings their songs into the light. This is a labour of love born of experience, but retaining the sense of wonder that brought the band together in the first place.

'The Patron Saint of Heartache' LP is available on limited-run green vinyl or limited-run black vinyl, CD with booklet, and digital download. It is available everywhere, including Bandcamp.

Turbulence, a new progressive metal band hailing from Lebanon, have announced that their new album, "Frontal" will be released via Frontiers Music Srl on March 12, 2021.Today, the band has released the first single and video from the album,'Madness Unforeseen'.
Pre-order/save "Frontal" HERE: https://orcd.co/turbulence

Turbulence is a new progressive rock/metal band from Lebanon. Coming from a region not exactly famous for prog music, Turbulence has emerged from their local scene and is ready to compete on a world stage. The band is preparing to unleash their sophomore album, “Frontal,” a concept album which showcases Turbulence's ability to combine compelling musical storytelling with modern sounds and production.

Turbulence was founded in 2013 by two extremely gifted composers, guitarist Alain Ibrahim and keyboardist Mood Yassin. Omar El Hage (vocals), Sayed Gereige (drums) and Anthony Atwe (bass) round out the band's line-up. The band started when Mood sent Alain a sample of a song that really piqued his interest. The meeting of the two men felt like an inevitable event and the two prog-loving songwriters, both among the most skilled and proficient musicians and instrumentalists in their country, teamed up with the rest of the line-up to complete their shared vision. Turbulence's goal is to bring their unique style of progressive music from the Middle East to the world.

"Our first release with Frontiers will be our second album, titled "Frontal", on which we were able to incorporate compelling musical storytelling with a modern sound that fuses a bit of everything. From rhythmic illusions, polyrhythms, somber melodies, a melting pot of crunching synths, soaring vocals, complex drumming, and a never ending stream of riff carnage that fuses jazz virtuosity with prog metal tension, all the way to ambient soundscapes and textures layered with memorable and heart-piercing clean vocals; it's an emotional roller coaster of a journey filled with surprises and details on every corner," adds the band.

'Madness Unforeseen' sets the mood for "Frontal". It is aggressive and moody, carried by soaring vocals over one of the catchiest choruses on the album. Dark themes of madness haunt the lyrics, banging riffery drives the music. It is definitely the perfect appetizer for the album," concludes the band.

This band will be a stunning revelation for all prog metal lovers, so be sure to start following them now and get ready for "Frontal" on March 12, 2021.

"Jeannie was my grandmother, she was the youngest daughter in her family in Wagga Wagga, country Australia, growing up in the early 20th century! Australia was a very different country then, still growing and developing, and finding its feet as a nation. Conditions were not easy and everyone in the family had to contribute to the family. Jeannie was a very strong and stoic woman who served in the Medical Women’s Service in the Pacific during the Second World War. For 4 years she was apart from her fiancé Guy, who during that time was a POW. So she had no idea as to his whereabouts and how he was doing. I think a lot about their strength and example today, and how resilient and strong they were" says Rob Gaylard.

He continues, "She was a wonderful nurse, and a loving and caring grandmother, a friend who supported the community and family through good times and bad. She was always there with a kind and wise word, and sometimes an extraordinary sense of the future. She taught us to appreciate the beauty in nature, a starry sky or a robin in the garden and was always encouraging and inspiring. She loved music and was a fan of Elvis, Pavarotti, The Beatles and The Nomadic!!"

Australian guitarist and singer/songwriter Robert Gaylard brings a unique perspective and vision when it comes to creating music. His inspiration and passion for starting The Nomadic began early on as a child after traveling to many countries like Myanmar (formerly Burma), Singapore and the Solomon Islands. His “nomadic” lifestyle continued on into his adulthood when he began to work for the United Nations in various countries such as: Kenya, Somalia, the Sudan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Israel and Palestine. His travels eventually brought him to New York in September of 2012 and motivated him to pursue his songwriting by establishing an indie rock band.

In the year 2019, Rob took a one year leave of absence from the UN to follow his musical passion and focus specifically on songwriting and live performance. The Nomadic released its debut single “Drifting” in September of 2019, "Waiting" was released in April of 2020 and "Beyond Blue" in June. "Manhattan View" was released on June 29th. The band is set to release a series of singles including: "Skaterpark," “Grand Mistakes” "My Mind is Racing" and “Under a Georgia Sky.” The full album "Beyond Blue" will be released in mid-year. Influenced by artists like Oasis, RadioheadThe VerveBruce SpringsteenPhosphorescentThe War on DrugsArizona and The 1975, The Nomadic produces a sound genre like no other as alternative rock meets blues with hints of Americana and pop.

Having been originally influenced by numerous cultures and ways of life, The Nomadic promotes and advocates for issues of social action and innovation, human rights, support for minorities, as well as doing the next right thing, including the idea that it is never too late, including for people to follow their dreams and passions.

DEMON HUNTER DEBUT RESURRECTED SINGLE “I WILL FAIL YOU”

FROM NEW ALBUM
SONGS OF DEATH AND RESURRECTION
DUE OUT MARCH 5TH VIA SOLID STATE RECORDS

PREORDER: Songs of Death and Resurrection

DEMON HUNTER debuted the first single, a reworked version of “I Will Fail You,” from their forthcoming album, Songs of Death and Resurrection, a mostly acoustic and stripped-down release due March 5, 2021, via Solid State Records.

Songs of Death and Resurrection features 11 new “Resurrected” versions of classic DEMON HUNTER songs from across their ten studio albums, including fan favorites such as “I Am a Stone,” “I Will Fail You,” “Carry Me Down,” and “The Heart of a Graveyard,” plus a brand new composition, “Praise the Void”. Marking an entirely new approach for DEMON HUNTER, Songs of Death and Resurrection finds the band using lush string arrangements, haunting piano, and layered vocal harmonies. “I Will Fail You (Resurrected)” is available to stream here alongside the previously released track “Dead Flowers (Resurrected),” and the album is available for preorder here.

Ryan Clark (vocals) had this to say about “I Will Fail You (Resurrected)”:
The original album version of “I Will Fail You” is one of our doomiest ballads. At the time, I found myself immersed in the bleak heaviness of bands like Omnium Gatherum, Swallow The Sun, and Katatonia. I’m naturally drawn to that place where heavy and sad collide.

Reimagined for Songs of Death and Resurrection, the song takes on a haunting vibe, replacing heavy chugs with hypnotic repetition of the lead guitar. There’s a trance-like cadence to it, which feels just as appropriate as the original crunch.

This version of the song also features the amazing talents of longtime Demon Hunter collaborator, Chris Carmichael. Chris has arranged and performed the strings for many DH songs, such as “Sixteen,” “Driving Nails,” “I Am a Stone,” and “Slight the Odds.” I’ve never had to give Chris direction, and I’ve never asked him to change anything beyond his first attempt. He just gets it... and makes us sound like a million dollars every time he touches a track.

Songs of Death and Resurrection features founding vocalist/songwriter Ryan Clark, lead guitarist Patrick Judge, bassist Jonathan Dunn, drummer Yogi Watts, and guitarist Jeremiah Scott, who produced and mixed the effort in Atlanta, Georgia, and Nashville, Tennessee. Scott also produced the band’s War(2019), Peace (2019), Outlive (2017), and Extremist (2014) records. To announce the album, DEMON HUNTER performed the album in its entirety for fans in an exclusive live stream performance this past November, which reached #14 on Billboard’s Rising Livestream Artists chart.

PROSPECTIVE Share New Single + Music Video "LIAR" New Studio Album 'All We Have' is Available Now!

Italian progressive metalcore quintet PROSPECTIVE share their new single "Liar" along with a music video. The digital 2-track single also features an instrumental version of "Liar" and is available now as stream and download.

Music video for Prospective - "Liar" taken from the album "All We Have", get it here: https://Prospective.lnk.to/AllWeHave➤ Official merchandise: https://bit...

Drummer Flavio Cacciari about "Liar":

Liar is one of those songs that made us say "holy sh*t this is good". I remember composing it at 4am in the morning with my body requesting some sleep but it was such a moment of inspiration that I couldn't stop.” He adds “It all started with that synth thing at the beginning of the track, all the rest came naturally.” Lyric wise frontman and vocalist Pietro Serratore says “the song is about a person that is not good for you, completely toxic. We're all about that concept of letting go people that are not suited for your life, just let them go.”

Listen to "Liar" here:

https://prospective.lnk.to/liar

"Liar" is taken from Prospective's latest album 'All We Have' which you can check out here: https://Prospective.lnk.to/AllWeHave

Every new release requires dedication and countless hours of writing, and that's what Prospective, progressive Metalcore Band from Bologna (Italy) embodies. The band's latest full-length album "All We Have" (Long Branch Records) is manic and emotionally stunning. The Italian quintet - Pietro Serratore [Vocals], Luca Zini [Lead Guitar, Vocals], Davide Ruggeri [Guitar], Giuseppe Colli [Bass] and Flavio Cacciari [Drummer] - reaches deep into their personalities to convey all feelings.

With a writing process on the edge of chaos and chance, with months of hectic work and countless nights shaping their new sound to find the perfect combination of guitar sounds. The songs are straightforward, hard and without regret, with rough guitar sounds, violent riffs, gnarly breakdowns, catchy choirs and unexpected melodies. All this has become possible thanks to the excellent work of mixer Buster Odeholm and mastering engineer Ermin Hamidovic.

The loss of someone, anger at the people around you, the constant issue of pollution and war, are some of the main issues that listeners will encounter while listening to the record. A complicated mixture of anger and love, with lyrics that talk about the feeling of being betrayed and the death of someone you love. The ongoing theme of war, either in yourself or on the battlefield, is something the band has explored in a meaningful way.

PROSPECTIVE Lineup:

Pietro Serratore - Vocals

Luca Zini - Guitar & Vocals

Davide Ruggeri - Guitar

Giuseppe Colli - Bass

Flavio Cacciari - Drums

THUNDER RELEASE NEW SINGLE 'GOING TO SIN CITY' TAKEN FROM THEIR BRAND NEW ALBUM 'ALL THE RIGHT NOISES' OUT MARCH 12TH 2021 ON BMG

LISTEN HERE
NEW LYRIC VIDEO PREMIERING TODAY

Preorder the new album 'All The Right Noises' here: https://thunderband.lnk.to/ATRNID Official lyrics video for 'Going To Sin City' by Thunder Listen to the ...

British rockers Thunder have released the brand new single ‘Going To Sin City’, the second taste of their upcoming 13th studio album ‘All The Right Noises’ out March 12th 2021 on BMG.

The defiantly strutting track is a rare look back for the band, who perhaps only now are processing the whirlwind of their late 80’s and early 90’s adventures.

On the song, guitarist and songwriter Luke Morley says:

‘It's based on the first time Danny [Thunder vocalist Danny Bowes] and I went to LA in the late-80s.

We were used to the music scene around Soho, and thought we were cool. In LA I felt like I was the bloke who’d come to fix the plumbing. Before bands like Guns N’ Roses rock’n’roll was pretty much denim and leather in Britain. Danny and I were determined to bring all that colour and sex and fun to the new band we were forming, which became Thunder.’

The album is a return to the full-throttle sound of Thunder that has seen them create a hugely successful 30+ year career at the forefront of British rock.

‘All The Right Noises’ is an intense confection of illicit charms that reasserts their authority as the number one band in the land. Recorded in the months leading up to the first Covid-19 lockdown, it was originally due for release in September 2020. Strange to reflect then on how much of the new material appears to address the challenging new world we now inhabit.

On the album, Luke says “ All the songs were written and recorded pre-Covid. But it is interesting how if you look at some of the tracks through the prism of Covid they still make a lot of sense.”

‘All The Right Noises’ follows on from 2019’s stripped back and reimagined album, ‘Please Remain Seated’ which continued their consecutive Top 10 UK Album Chart run since their ecstatically received comeback six years ago.

It is another chapter in the band’s incredibly successful history that has seen them create a succession of some of the most highly-regarded rock albums of the past 30 years. The key to their renown: brilliantly conceived top-drawer material including all-time classics like ‘Dirty Love’, and ‘Low Life In High Places’, described by the late great Radio One Rock Show presenter Tommy Vance as “the greatest ever single released by a rock band”.

With their most recent success, Thunder have proven themselves as vital now as when they emerged with their debut album in 1990 ‘Backstreet Symphony’, and their hit follow-up in 1992 ‘Laughing On Judgement Day’, which was only kept off the top spot by Kylie Minogue.

NANOWAR OF STEEL Announce Major Style Shift in New Statement, to Release New Pop Single on February 8

Watch the Teaser for NANOWAR OF STEEL’s New Stylistic Direction

New year, new music style.Welcome to Nanowar Of Steel's new music! We hope you will enjoy this ride with us. Join Nanowar Of Steel's supporters club:https://w...

taly’s finest, NANOWAR OF STEEL famous for their beloved metal parodies and cheeky hit songs such as Valhallelujah and Uranus – have turned to their fans and supporters on social media today in a new, heartfelt and honest statement about the band’s current situation. After gathering millions of clicks on YouTube and Spotify, as well as just recently re-releasing their popular 2018 album Stairway To Valhalla, the band will be undergoing a major stylistic shift and a new musical direction.

NANOWAR OF STEEL states:

“We're getting close to the 40 years old threshold and after so many years in the music industry we have to face the fact that - despite the growth we experienced in the last years and an important record deal with Napalm Records - metal and heavy music in general cannot give us the kind of financial sustainability our lives require at this stage.

If you follow us on social media, you should already be aware of the fact that we have announced a radical change of direction our music will take. We can now state that this change means our new style will be considerably lighter and oriented towards a broader audience.

We're sorry to put this in these terms - which might sound way too cold and materialistic - but we want to make things clear before our fans and all those who, in the last years, supported us for what we were, a parody METAL band.

(…)

With our new music, new projects and new energy we are aiming at climbing the charts, going to Sanremo, join the Eurovision and - first and foremost - conquer the hearts of those who do not know the band we’re mocking when we sing ‘By sunlight we ride, ten thousand side by side’.”

MEMORIAM Announce New Album, 'To The End' & Reveal Artwork

Onwards into battle, one more time... In the two years since MEMORIAM released Requiem For Mankind, the band haven't rested on their laurels. Their fourth studio album, To The End is due for release on March 26 via Reaper Entertainment.

Image 1-15-21 at 5.29 PM.JPG

Marking the beginning of a second trilogy of albums, To The End serves as something of a prologue to the first three MEMORIAM albums. Working backwards and narrating the life story of the leader whose demise was depicted in the first trilogy, the lyrics on the album may play out in a fictional realm, but they incorporate inspiration from real life. A central theme of war is coloured with political fulminations and everyday experiences that combine to create a cohesive and enthralling chronicle.

The four-piece returned to producer, Russ Russell, for the recording of To The End. For the first time, the band demoed the songs and entered the studio with a new level of preparedness. Coupled with their close relationship with Russell, this created an environment that allowed for greater experimentation, as demonstrated by the diverse array of textures and sounds present on the nine tracks on the album.

From the earliest days of the band, they had their eye on the art Dan Seagrave (Benediction, Dismember, Hypocrisy, Suffocation etc) as an accompaniment to their music. Having created the artwork for the first three MEMORIAM albums, he has also created the cover for To The End.

The band comment:

"We are really chuffed to be collaborating with Dan, his vision and interpretation of ideas are totally unique and its fantastic to be involved in the creative process with him - seeing the ideas that we have transformed into stunning images that we are proud to have as artwork for our albums. His style is second to none, so much so that using any other artist at this point would seem like a compromise; his attention to detail is incredible. To The End is the first album of this trilogy and features the events that led up to the scenes depicted on our first album, For the Fallen. The art shows the king leading his troops into the last battle in which he was killed. It looks bloody killer."

Seagrave elaborates:

"In this moment we’re capturing the dawn of the onslaught of the city; visible from the industrial outskirts, as the forces descend with a pincer movement into the valley, spreading destruction towards their goal. The king character to me at this stage has become something of a creature - beyond human. There is an elemental shift in its DNA and a detachment of its ordinary senses. Held together by earthly materials, I feel its presence brings with it a surrealistic sickness that affects the immediate environment and those who tread within its boundaries.

"My aesthetic look of this was to combine the retro military tech of the early 20th century with the memory of renaissance times art. For example, tanks that have bas relief sculpture, and inventions such as the flying wingsuit - a metallic armoured vehicle contraption worn by the foreground figure. There's less of a literal darkness in the depiction. Here there seems to be a permeating flow of dust particles, like a concocting mist of specular ice and grey concrete. The dawn of a bright day reacting with it, both illuminating and deadly."

The first digital single, "Onwards into Battle" will be released on January 22; it can be pre-saved here.

MEMORIAM is:

Karl Willetts - vocals (ex-BOLT THROWER)

Frank Healy - bass (ex-BENEDICTION)

Spike T Smith - drums (Sacrilege, Conflict, Killing Joke, The Damned)

Scott Fairfax - guitars (AS THE WORLD DIES, ex-BENEDICTION live)

TOMBS is currently supporting their latest full-length, 'Under Sullen Skies,' which was released in November of 2020. The record has been named one of the best metal releases of 2020 by Metal Insider, Decibel Magazine, The Pit, Riff Magazine, Chicago Music Guide's Global Music Podcast, and others while drummer Justin Spaeth has been dubbed one of the best drummers of 2020 by Sick Drummer Magazine.

In addition, TOMBS previously premiered the official music video for their new song, "The Hunger," which pays homage to cinema's most infamous vampires! The song and video, which was created by Jaclyn Sheer, can be found at THIS LOCATION.

'Under Sullen Skies' can be streamed, downloaded, and ordered HERE.

There’s a line from Mike Hill’s audiobook/tour diary of ANODYNE’s 2004 European tour in which the gravel-throated frontman affirms, “I will always outwork you.” In that case, Hill was referring to an incident in Germany early on during a six-week long overseas jaunt with his previous band. In actuality, however, he could have been talking about any instance between when he first picked up a guitar as a teen and the present. Whether it’s his history dating back to previous bands OTIS, ANODYNE, KING GENERATOR or VERSOMA, his ongoing solo work in VASILEK, the more recent SCORPION THRONE project or his thirteen year reign as the driving force and nerve center of post-black metal institution TOMBS, hard work is second nature and nothing will keep the guitarist/vocalist from creative endeavor and expression. And it’s not just music in which his propulsive work ethic has gleaned results: Hill also is the CEO and roast master at Savage Gold Coffee (a labelling nod to TOMBS’ 2014 album of the same name), the host/producer/creator of the Everything Went Black podcast, host and producer of Gimme Radio’s Metal Matters flagship podcast, the creator and co-host of horror podcast Necromaniacs as well as a stalwart in the print and online journalism world covering music and MMA fighting. His is, has been and always will be a life steeped in dedication and with unassailable drive in the cross hairs. And despite the world being put on pause, Hill refuses to curtail his innate determination and ongoing tenacity with the result being TOMBS emerging with the next chapter in its impressive catalog and growing legacy: the band’s fifth full-length, 'Under Sullen Skies'.

“The week VERSOMA broke up in 2007, I started TOMBS,” he says, recalling how, characteristically, the band started before any dust was permitted to settle. “The initial rehearsals ended up being the bulk of material that showed up on the first [self-titled] EP. The intent from the beginning was to get back to playing music I wanted to hear and to not be so concerned with genre or satisfying anyone else’s desires. It was to do music on a personal level and be a reflection of the darkness I’ve felt throughout my life.”

Formed in the gritty corners of pre-gentrified Brooklyn, NY, TOMBS’ early mandate was steeped in the harshness and atonality of black metal but dosed with trace amounts of the varied influences and inspirations ingrained in Hill’s musical muscle memory by previous bands. “The canon of music TOMBS has created has spanned several different genres, but I’ve always had it my intent for there to always be a certain amount of violence and hardness lurking the background.”
Those early years delivered splits and singles, the highly revered 'Winter Hours' debut in 2009 and Decibel’s 2011 Album of the Year, 'Path of Totality'. Never one to sit still, 'Path of Totality' was followed by appreciable and impressive amounts of touring in accordance with the lauding afforded by critics and fans and the braying of foes, which only served as fuel for Hill’s perseverance. Savage Gold came three years later after which a restless Hill began nudging TOMBS’ black metal base into territories populated by gothic and death rock artists like FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM and SISTERS OF MERCY as well as avant-garde purveyors Caspar Brotzmann and Live Skull while never forgetting – or being able to – scrape the grime of NYC from under his fingernails. The addition of a second guitar and live keyboards/samples brought a fuller sound and allowed noise sequences and soundscapes to be brought to the live show. It was around the time of 2016 'All Empires Fall' EP that TOMBS punctuated its iconoclastic spirit and thought process. Despite then-being part of the Relapse Records family, the band struck out with the intent of self-releasing the EP in order to retain as much independence as contractual obligations would allow – retaining the digital and publishing rights while eventually licensing the record back to Relapse. A one album stint in 2017 under the Metal Blade banner birthed 'The Grand Annihilation' into the world where TOMBS took broader and more daring steps into buffering black metal with morose melody, sullen death rock and classic METALLICA chugging. Following a parting from Metal Blade, the band – now completed by drummer Justin Spaeth, guitarist Matt Medeiros and bassist Drew Murphy, who are also 3/4ths of New Jersey death metal crew KALOPSIA - quickly found a home on Season of Mist and issued the 'Monarchy of Shadows' EP literally a week before the world went into Coronavirus lockdown.

“The original strategy assumed we would be on the road for most of 2020,” says Hill with a lamenting laugh. “We had a sick tour with Napalm Death planned right after the EP’s release. We were going to record the new full-length before the tour and have it come out in the fall. There was all kinds of tour talk and plans and 2020 would have been a tour-de-force of TOMBSactivity in the United States and Europe. Obviously, none of that is happening, but we’re still going ahead with the record.”

Of course they are. Throw a hurdle in front of Mike Hill and he’ll never shy at rolling up his sleeves and taking on the challenge. Even with the world in shutdown mode, Hill is still brimming with enthusiasm about the input and work ethic of the current TOMBS lineup and how Spaeth, Mederios and Murphy stepped up to the plate in the creation of 'Under Sullen Skies'.
“Everyone contributes on this record and the door has always been open for others to do so. There has always been this misconception that I’m some sort of tyrant always telling people what to do and play. The fact of the matter is that most of the time I outwork people; that’s just the way I am. No one is ever going to outwork me on any level in any area of my life and I was always coming up with material. Now, I have these maniacs in the band who are equally motivated and there’s a whole new life injected into TOMBS. That’s awesome and I love it. These days we’ll try anything and we actually write stuff and throw it out because it’s not perfect. It’s more like a writing committee, which I really appreciate. It’s not just me writing everything. It’s a big difference from 'The Grand Annihilation' which was basically a solo record.”

'Under Sullen Skies' is this lineup’s second kick at twisting black metal’s DNA around dank emotional corners, psychological turmoil and the urban underbelly all of which is unavoidably coloured and touched by the present-day status of life on this here Earth.

“The album’s title came during all this and the sort of post-apocalyptic world we’re living in,” Hill explains. “It encapsulates an overall feeling of gloom and depression which is pretty much how we’ve been living for most of this year. The title was the last piece to fall into place. I remember standing on the roof of the building I was living in at the time on a grey day and it was raining – actually, it wasn’t even raining; it was a half-assed attempt at rain! – and depressing and I just thought, ‘What a sullen sky’ and it just stuck with me.”

The album starts with “Bone Collector,” a furious blast of melodic black metal that shifts gears towards an anthemic fist-pumping slog through the goth rock-thrash metal VENN DIAGRAM. “Void Constellation” takes as many cues from Peaceville Three gloom and doom as it does the death metal stomp of OBITUARY and INCANTATION. “Descensum” mines the various well-worn parts of Ride the Lightning for influence before blasting the doors open with some startlingly spacious chromatic single-note atonality. As the album progresses, further textures and moods are employed via acoustic instrumentation and keyboards as well as sampled soundscapes all butting heads with furious second wave black metal and sly to nods to death rock heroes SISTERS OF MERCY and FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM, all of the band’s motivations and interests being dropped into the chameleonic pair of tracks closing the album, “Sombre Ruin” and the appropriately titled “Plague Years.”

“‘Barren’ stands out as the song that’s most collaborative,” notes Hill. “Justin wrote the bulk of the riffs on that one, that sort of NWOBHM/SCORPIONS ending part is something I came up with, Matt added a bunch of guitar harmonies over it and Drew’s bass is laid thick underneath. That one is one of the biggest group efforts and one of the strongest songs on the record.

“I explore a lot of the archetypes that are used in folklore on this record, like werewolves and vampires which I’ve always been interested in, and on a song like ‘Secrets of the Black Sun’ I talk about the finite nature of our time on this planet, that nothing is really permanent and being aware of that whether as an individual or as a civilization, which I guess fits in with the pandemic and the changes that are going on. There are all kinds of other people, civilizations and creatures that have come and gone long before us and if you think about it over a long enough time span, everyone’s life expectancy goes down to zero.”

The new album not only sees Hill expanding his creative and collaborative comfort zone by wholly embracing the offerings of his band mates, but he’s also let down the drawbridge to allow folks from beyond the immediate TOMBSfamily to include what he describes as “mad guest spots.”

“There’s Cat Cabral, who does the spoken word piece on ‘Angel of Darkness.’ She’s not a musician per se; she’s more from the occult and witchcraft world. I’ve been friends with her for a really long time and she’s a great resource for esoteric knowledge. She’s also an actress who has done plays and commercials and been in films, so I figured she’d be the perfect person to deliver dialogue in an emotionally deep way, and be good at taking direction. Ray Suhy from SIX FEET UNDER rips the guitar solo in ‘Barren’ and that solo is its own masterpiece, in my opinion. BLACK CROWN INITIATE and former TOMBS live guitarist Andy Thomas contributed a guitar solo in ‘Void Constellation.’ Todd Stern from PSYCROPTIC plays the solo in ‘Mortem.’ Sera Timms from IDES OF GEMINI and BLACK MATH HORSEMAN does guest vocals on ‘Secrets of the Black Sun.’ We’ve got INTEGRITY’s Dwid Hellion singing the chorus on ‘The Hunger’ and BLACK ANVIL’s Paul Delaney also doing a couple of verses on ‘Angel of Darkness.’ So, yeah, there are a bunch of people on there and it’s like a community effort which I enjoy. I like involving people I respect and having them be a part of the whole thing.”

After spending his entire adult life navigating the pitfalls and pratfalls of the industry for expressive and creative opportunity, Hill has amassed an impressive legacy, one that 'Under Sullen Skies' contributes to admirably and irreverently. Like most, the extreme music underground lifer and veteran is probably justified in approaching the future with very muted optimism, but while the world works at screwing its head back on straight, Hill is going to do what he wants to do as well as he possibly can. Uncertainty may reign at the moment, but Hill and TOMBS are still going to do their thing and will be content to please themselves in the process. If anyone else happens to be along for the ride, then welcome aboard.
“'Under Sullen Skies' is a dark and introspective album,” he asserts. “It’s not a happy record that anyone is going to use to get pumped up on a Friday night. We wanted to pull out the stops, go full-on and make a nice body of work. I could care less if anyone likes the band or not because I’ve been through so many ups and downs with this thing that I don’t give a fuck if people enjoy the music. I know I like it, I know the guys in the band like it and we’re just rocking and rolling. This record and the EP came out about as close as I could imagine to what I have in my brain about how this band should sound. The whole trajectory of the band has had each record never quite hitting, but 'Monarchy of Shadows' and 'Under Sullen Skies' have both really come out how I envisioned the songs to be.”

To misquote Allen Ginsburg "the circle DODECAHDRON is broken. But with death comes rebirth." AUTARKH takes a radical approach to their musical assault, consuming the listener with dizzying maelstroms of chaos. ‘Form In Motion’ embodies the word “extreme,” putting forth an intrusive battery of blistering guitars, pummeling drums, spastic math metal salvos and cacophonous electronics that culminates in one of the most robust and daring debut records metal has seen yet.

AUTARKH founder Michel Nienhuis comments: "‘Turbulence’ is a song about an ongoing realization and understanding of internal conflict. Change is necessary and inevitable but seems unattainable and out of range. ‘Turbulence’ is the first full blown song of the album and is quite representative of the AUTARKH sound – up-tempo blasts versus downtempo grooves, locking harmonies versus chaotic dissonance and ethereal layers versus dark growls. This visualizer is the result of a first experiment of our producer and sound designer Joris Bonis with his analog oscilloscopes from the 1970’s, that generate images based on audio. We invite you to join in on this new chapter of our musical evolution."

Pre-orders are now live HERE.

From the fertile grounds of Tilburg (NL) rises new contemporary metal outfit AUTARKH, a group of musical extremists dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the auditory senses. Autarkh is the brainchild of Michel Nienhuis, founding member and composer/guitarist of DODECAHEDRON. Dodecahedron released 2 albums on the French record label Season Of Mist in 2012 and 2017 and has played at Inferno festival (NO), Reykjavík Metalfest (IS) Brutal Assault (CZ), Roadburn Festival (NL) and Eurosonic (NL) amongst others.

Death and illness was closing in on Dodecahedron, triggering a conceptual transformation that was necessary to effectuate Nienhuis’ artistic development. In the fall of 2019 Nienhuis teamed up with producer Joris Bonis (Dodecahedron, Ulsect), guitarist David Luiten and electronic composer / producer Tijnn Verbruggen, a set of musicians with backgrounds ranging from metal to techno. Autarkh’s first full length album ‘Form In Motion’ will be released the 12th of March 2021 through Season of Mist records.

AUTARKH takes a unique position in the world of extreme metal. Synthetic, IDM-style beats and glitch effects - reminiscent of those produced by artists such as Aphex Twin and Autechre - are perfectly balanced with overwhelming riffs and vocals that range from dark growls and exasperating screams to semi-clean harmonies. Together with fluttering blast beats, dense bass lines and eerie soundscapes these elements produce an intense and crystal clear tunnel of sound where the energy of contrasting emotions is constantly felt.

‘Form In Motion’ feels like an evolution in both sound and lyrical content from the two albums Nienhuis released with Dodecahedron. Musically, because of the radical approach the band takes with their rhythm section; lyrically because the album is more about a personal experience of human nature and the nature of the universe. The album takes us from unraveling storms and destructive chaos to transformation, liberation and fundamental shifts in understanding in order to align with the divine. That progression is also present in a linear sense – the intrusive uneasiness the album starts with gives way to a sense of epic victory towards the end.

Give yourself the opportunity to dive into this radical exploration of sonic and spiritual ideas and allow yourself to get inspired by what AUTARKH has to offer.
