After breaking the charts worldwide with Escape of the Phoenix (2021), Gothenburg’s finest export of darkness, EVERGREY, enters a bewildering new chapter with their new album, A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament), out May 20, 2022 via Napalm Records.

With the previously released, pounding album opener “Save Us”, EVERGREY lifted the curtain on an overwhelming journey through progressive heaviness and searing emotionality. Today, glistening second single “Midwinter Calls” draws the listener further into this multifaceted world of sound with its grooving instrumentation, flowing between boisterous dynamics and a next level vocal performance by mastermind Tom S. Englund - one of the most distinctive vocalists in metal. The powerful track gleams with its melodic tunes and guitar riffs and marks just one out of many highlights of the new epos. The song features atmospheric audio recordings from the band’s latest tour through Sweden, giving the song a special effect and fans another opportunity to leave their everlasting mark on EVERGREY history.

“Midwinter Calls” is visually brought to live via a sophisticated, cinematic music video, filmed by Patric Ullaeus and conceptually connected to the storyline portrayed in the “Save Us” video, allowing the viewer to jump even deeper into the universe of A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament).

Evergrey on “Midwinter Calls”:

"'Midwinter Calls' is the second song but also the second chapter of a three-video story that reveals itself in a reverse order, why make it easy huh?

This song is full of energy and it's once again featuring our fans and the live audience of Gothenburg, Stockholm and Karlstad - Co-creating at its best! We can't wait to hear the whole world singing along to this when we play it live!

Hopefully you will find the video both thought provoking and uplifting at the same time. What is important, who are we and why? The resistance is getting real!"

A new era of EVERGREY: A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) is dark melodic metal

mastery!

Celebrating over 25 years of metal mastery, EVERGREY, led by founder, singer and guitarist Tom S. Englund, are known for wandering the realms of progressive and heavy melodic metal and painting sonic renderings with their twelve studio records released as of today. A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament), the follow-up to the unit’s highly successful 2021 full-length, Escape of the Phoenix (which landed at numerous chart positions worldwide), reveals a 10 track mélange of which every note, every riff and every word seeps pure poetry – creating a ceaseless intensity that mesmerizes from the very first second.

The new album was recorded at Top Floor Studios Gothenburg, engineered by Jakob Herrman and produced by Tom S. Englund and Jonas Ekdahl, with mixing and mastering by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios (Volbeat, Destruction, Epica and many more), whereas the hauntingly beautiful album artwork was conjured by Giannis Nakos at Remedy Art Design. Nakos is known for creating artworks for acts like Oceans Of Slumber, Amaranthe, The Agonist and The Crown as well as merchandise for Morbid Angel, Suffocation or Cryptopsy – just to name a few.

EVERGREY on the new album:

“Here it is! A new album! Yet again! This is what we love about music, it never ends! Our mission is to write music so here you are! 10 new songs! 10 new EVERGREY songs that we hope you will have by your side as your life continues to shift and grow. 10 songs that we wish will be part of the soundtrack when you're creating new memories and new possibilities in your life. 10 songs that we feel privileged to have you listen to. 10 songs that have risen through the ashes of two years where our creativity has had more time than ever to flourish.

10 songs we really hope you will enjoy as much as we did writing them. As usual we have given it our best and we can't wait to hear what you have to say! A new year, a new album, a new record label = new possibilities. All this can only be positive, right?

Enjoy!

Tom, Jonas, Rikard, Johan & Henrik”

A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) impresses with flawless, meticulous production that deftly depicts both heartfelt honesty and scorching metallic intensity, while its instrumental force of furious, technically driven riffs, skyrocketing solos and dramatic synths merges with the expert, brooding vocal performance of Englund – one of the most distinctive vocalists in metal. He skillfully balances harsh and heavy tones with an inarguably soulful approach, all topped by melancholic, thought-provoking lyricism that digs deeper with every spin, leaving a long-lasting impact. Songs like “Midwinter Calls”, which also contains fan participation with atmospheric audience recordings from the band’s latest tour through Sweden, and “The Great Unwashed”, draw the listener in with grooving, glistering instrumentation, flowing between boisterous dynamics and a next level vocal performance, while emotive “Wildfires” turns the volume down as a goosebump-worthy ballad that hurts and heals all at once. “Call Out The Dark” begins atmospherically with accented keys, suddenly evolving into an intense opus of symphonic and power metal attributes in the blink of an eye, whereas the record’s longest track, “The Orphean Testament”, impresses by revealing its heaviest facet. A sensitive introduction lures the listener into “Heartless”, and offers one of the album’s most engaging verses, followed by a hauntingly beautiful chorus and variety in pace to create a magnificent listening experience.

A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) will be available in the following formats:

Paleface Drop Music Video For Brand New Track, "The Orphan"

Switzerland's finest purveyors of brutality, PALEFACE, have dropped the music video for their brand new track "The Orphan" today. The 6:30 opus is by far the band's most impressive and expansive single to date, combining new elements of shred Watch the video below. Find the track on streaming platforms HERE.

The latest slice of gloriously heavy Swiss beatdown is taken from the band's upcoming album, Fear & Dagger which will be released later this month on Friday, March 25th, 2022. Fans can pre-order physical copies of the album, available in 3 double-vinyl gatefold variants or CD digipak or pre-save the album digitally HERE.

Speaking on the new track and video, frontman Zelli shares

"The Orphan" is a song about the suffocating struggle people who suffer with depression go through. The feeling that life has no sense and simply isn’t worth living any longer. The idea that you get to such a hopeless and helpless point that you just give up and leave your life in the hands of death, like “Fuck it, I can’t do it anymore, so Death, do what you want with me”. You become The Orphan of The Deadman.

I wanted the video for "The Orphan" to really reflect the struggles of depression in a straight-in-your-face way. I didn’t want to pull any punches because that’s not the reality of struggling with mental health conditions like depression. The performances where I’m bound by chains and in the bathtub are visual representations of how depression can trap you and render you completely immobile and incapable of breaking free. It’s a metaphor for how hard it is to get out of depressive states. To other people it looks easy to just stand up and get out of the bathtub, but to the person suffering, it’s impossible and the will to fight is just not there, so the urge to surrender and let yourself drown becomes almost impossible to fight.

We, as a band, take mental health very seriously and want people who struggle to know that they are not alone. If you or someone you know is suffering please contact The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (USA) on 1-800-273-8255 or find your local free helpline here: https://findahelpline.com"

Since their last album, 'Chapter 3: The Last Selection', independent outfit, Paleface have gained international recognition throughout the Deathcore and Beatdown Community. Known for their huge, aggressive riffs, brutally bombastic rhythm section, frontman, Zelli's outstanding vocals and a pinch of humor. This is Switzerland’s finest heavy music.

Their new album, "Fear & Dagger", focuses on more mature and critical topics related to the fears and struggles young people have to content with in the 21st century, most importantly, the topic of mental health. The album is a 65 minute monster, containing 16 tracks with guest appearances from members of Justice For The Damned (AUS), Traitors (US) and Landmvrks(FR) and a PALEFACE fan, diagnosed with schizophrenia, who lent his voice and perspective to the album.

Speaking on the album, frontman Zelli shares

"This is what Paleface is all about. The entire 65mins. speaks for us: for our emotions, our style, our dedication and our PLFC-Family.

We wrote and recorded the entire record within six months not only for our fans and for us, but also for all the people out there who are struggling with dark times in their life and themselves. We want to give them a piece of solace. Music to connect with, something to gain strength, something to be happy about, something that helps you deal with the pain or just something to let all the anger out.

I am unbelievably proud of "Fear & Dagger". It is, by far, our angriest and most emotional record yet and I can’t wait to share it with the world."

"The Orphan" follows previous singles "Deathtouch" and "Dead Man's Diary" feat. LANDMVRKS frontman Florent Salfati. Between them, the two previously released singles have clocked up 1.6 million cross-platform streams and 261,000 YouTube views.

ABOUT PALEFACE

PALEFACE was formed in Zurich, Switzerland in 2017 by vocalist Marc Zellweger (Zelli) and drummer Colin Hammond (CJ) having met through a mutual friend in 2016. After bonding over a shared love of beatdowns and hardcore, Zelli and CJ shook hands at a concert in 2017 and promised they would create the craziest beatdown band ever together.

They recruited guitarist Yannick Lehmann to the band and released their debut ‘Chapter 1: From The Gallows’ in 2018. Later that year, they brought bassist Tommy-Lee Abt to PALEFACE family. They played their first show in October 2018 and quickly grew in popularity with the song “Deprivation Method”.

In early 2019, Paleface started writing ‘Chapter 2: Witch King’ which was released in May 2019. The band started to gain international attention with the release of tracks “Human Hunter” and “Skin People”. They released the single “No Mercy At All” at the end of 2019 and started working on the final installment of the dark story they’d created with Chapters 1 & 2.

Chapter 3: The Last Selection’ was released on October 30th 2020 to much acclaim. PALEFACE released two music videos for huge tracks “Curse Us”, “The Rats” and “Skalpell” which quickly ranked high in the deadown/hardcore charts and saw the band become cover stars on Spotify’s Heavy Beatdown playlist. The released the music video for "Lights Out" earlier this year. Their releases to date have seen them clock up nearly 10.2 million streams across all platforms and 165k monthly listeners on Spotify alone.
