Revolution Above Disorder releases 'Annihilator' mini-EP featuring Jagz Kooner, mastered by RIDE's Mark Gardener

“A dream-laden psychedelic groove, sighing with cinematic vocals over a soft wall of shuddering sound that weaves guitars and synths around a hypnotic melody"~ Post-Punk.com

"A fine balance of fresh new ideas and familiarity... smart and seductive" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"Perfect nugaze... balances out the familiar and innovative, something cold yet calming, something futuristic while rooted in retro electro" ~ The Spill Magazine

"With a psychedelic lo-fi predisposition... eerie and dreamy while being down to earth" ~ Destroy//Exist

"Delicious slice of dark, foreboding shoegaze with a Jesus and Mary Chain sneery disdain & a My Bloody Valentine chainsaw buzz. Deeply formed melodies flow under the insistant rhythmic thunder with a disassociated air and opaque lyrics"~ Backseat Mafia

Irish psych/ shoegaze artist Revolution Above Disorder has released the 'Annihilator' mini-EP, produced and mixed at Jacknife Sound by Jason Corbett of ACTORS, and mastered by RIDE legend Mark Gardener at his OX4 Sound Studio in Oxford, England.

The 3-track release includes a clever remix by renowned producer Jagz Kooner (Primal Scream, Oasis, Kasabian, The Charlatans, Soulwax, The Kills, Massive Attack, Ladytron) and fellow Dublin electronic producer Colm Rutledge AKA Noise Baby.

Revolution Above Disorder is the solo moniker of Vancouver-based Dubliner Stephen Nicholas White (The Orange Kyte, House of Dolls, Magic Shoppe), whose music is a melting pot of shoegaze, psychedelic rock and electronic-tinged post-punk. Droned-out while also melodic and sincere, White’s songs are augmented by synths, drum machines and heavily treated instrumentation with hypnotic reverb-soaked vocals.

"As a record producer and remixer, Jagz Kooner has worked with an extensive list of some of the most influential musicians of the last 30 years. Alongside Andrew Weatherall, he was a member of The Sabres of Paradise. Jagz is somebody whose work has been an inspiration to me for as long as I can remember and he has pulled out all the stops for his remix of Annihilator… it is both dreamy and vicious in equal measures. It’s an absolute honour and privilege to have Jagz on board for this release," says Stephen Nicholas White.

"Track 3 is the remix from my pal Colm Rutledge AKA Noise Baby. A fellow Dubliner and a fellow expat, Colm is based out of Berlin and the influence of that Mecca of hedonism is all over his Annihilator remix, the result is glorious. My jaw hit the floor when he sent this interpretation of the track. Colm is also currently knee-deep in creating a killer new record with his excellent rock n’ roll outfit The Famous Painters."

Recorded during the height of the paranoid and chaotic days of the Covid-19 pandemic, it explores the themes of dissatisfaction, disillusion, nihilism and self-destruction - quite fitting for the times.

"Annihilator was originally conceived of as an uptempo post-punk song a number of years back when writing the second House of Dolls record, which ultimately never saw the light of day. Rediscovered in a treasure trove of demos back in 2020 as I was conceptualizing Revolution Above Disorder, Annihilator soon metamorphosed into a whole different beast. Working again with Jason Corbett at Jacknife Sound, we slowed the track down to allow it to breathe and, in doing so, a whole new incarnation of the track began to crystallize"," says Stephen Nicholas White.

"At the time I was heavily into rediscovering the sounds of first wave trip-hop and nineties UK big beat… and as ever, the ubiquitous spectre of krautrock loomed heavily at the forefront of my mind. These influences wormed their way into Annihilator as we focused on the building of subtle layers to create a rising tension over the course of the track. The song was built over top of a sci-fi synth bassline, underpinned at its core by acoustic guitar. ACTORS’ drummer Adam Finkresponded to the call and nailed the drum track. Mat Durie was summoned in to add some bowed-guitar, lending the track the droned-out atmospherics that it was crying out for."

This spring, White released 'Scream Quietly' to pay tribute to the groundbreaking band Television Personalities and the songwriting genius of Dan Treacy. In late 2021, Revolution Above Disorder debuted with 'Illuminate', which involved all members of postpunk band ACTORS, as well as Josiah Webb of Magic Shoppe.

The 'Annihilator' single is out now everywhere, including Apple Music, Spotify, Bandcamp and can be obtained directly from the artist via Bandcamp.

Revolution Above Disorder pays tribute to Television Personalities on 'Scream Quietly', produced by ACTORS' Jason Corbett

"Takes the prize for the perfect nugaze single... if White were looking for a sonic something that balanced out the familiar and innovative, something cold yet calming, something futuristic while rooted in retro electro, then he has solidly hit the nail on the head here" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Vancouver’s cityscape may very well have a subliminal (if not plainly evident) impact on the dark cold and awesome prism through which he channels the better elements of such bands as The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spiritualized, Lush and Catherine Wheel" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

“I love working with Stephen. There’s a trust and flow that spawns a real magic in the music. You can hear the adventure in the songs" ~ Jason Corbett (ACTORS, Jacknife Sound)

"Vocally it’s haunting, and instrumentally, darkly compelling" ~ PunkRockBeat

Dublin postpunk / nugaze / electro artist Revolution Above Disorder presents the single 'Scream Quietly', paying tribute to the groundbreaking band Television Personalities and the songwriting genius of Dan Treacy.

Revolution Above Disorder is the solo moniker of Vancouver-based Dubliner Stephen Nicholas White (The Orange Kyte, House of Dolls, Magic Shoppe). Revolution Above Disorder’s music is a melting pot of post-punk, psychedelic rock and electronic music. This is guitar-based rock augmented by synths, drum machines and heavily treated instrumentation with haunting reverb-soaked vocals.

"The lofi outsider-art indie-pop of Dan Treacy's Television Personalities occupies a place in my heart all of its own. Stylistically all over the map, Treacy's four decades (and counting) of off-kilter demonstrations of punk and psychedelia are held together by the emotional depth of the songwriting and the vocal delivery, which sees Treacy careering unconstrained from acerbic, to playfully whimsical, to heartbroken and vulnerable. Beautiful," says Stephen Nicholas White.

This cover originally appeared on 'Mummy, Mummy Please Look At Me: A Tribute to the Television Personalities', released via Dandy Boy Records.

Revolution Above Disorder recently debuted with 'Illuminate', a 3-track offering that was produced, mixed and mastered at Jacknife Sound by Jason Corbett of ACTORS, which also featured all other members of ACTORS' (Shannon Hemmett and Kendall Wooding on backing vocals, Adam Fink on drums) and Josiah Webb of Magic Shoppe on guitar. The video, directed and edited by Eliot Galán of Galán Films, stars Analissa Longoria and Mat Durie. Dublin-based artist Delta Omega a.k.a. Conor Paxton (House of Dolls, Buffalo Sunn, The Brothers Movement) also contributed the more dance-oriented 'Illuminate (Delta Omega Remix)'.

As of January 11, 'Scream Quietly' will be available via Apple Music, Spotify and elsewhere digitally. It can already be downloaded via Bandcamp, where the debut single 'Illuminate' is also available.

REVOLUTION ABOVE DISORDER releases 'Illuminate' maxi-single, produced by ACTORS' Jason Corbett

“I love working with Stephen. There’s a trust and flow that spawns a real magic in the music. You can hear the adventure in the songs" ~ Jason Corbett (ACTORS, Jacknife Sound)

Postpunk / nugaze / electro artist artist Revolution Above Disorder presents his debut offering 'Illuminate', a 3-track offering that was produced, mixed and mastered at Jacknife Sound by Jason Corbett of ACTORS. A melting pot of post-punk, psychedelic rock and electronic music underpinned by raw, sincere vocals, this is guitar-based rock augmented by synths, drum machines and heavily treated instrumentation with a spine of pure melody.

Revolution Above Disorder is the solo moniker of Dubliner Stephen Nicholas White (The Orange Kyte, House of Dolls, Magic Shoppe), who is currently based in Vancouver. Revolution Above Disorder’s music is electronic-tinged post-punk with raw, honest lyrics driving the songs.

"Illuminate’ is the song that kickstarted Revolution Above Disorder. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I’d just come off a European tour with Magic Shoppe and I found myself having to cancel scheduled plans with The Orange Kyte. In my downtime I began to reevaluate where I was headed musically and I realized I’d become dissatisfied with what I’d been doing. As I searched through old demos from the past, some going back over a decade, I was excited to hear songs with real potential that either I’d abandoned or just plain forgotten about. I grew interested in the idea of this modern day version of myself collaborating with my chaotic and directionless former self. I wanted to finish what I’d started many years prior. 'Illuminate’ was the first one I needed to record," says Stephen Nicholas White.

With ACTORS' Shannon Hemmett and Kendall Wooding on backing vocals, bandmate Adam Fink on drums, and Josiah Webb of Magic Shoppe on guitar, the original version is a powerful and euphoric post-punk / shoegaze single rooted in new wave and electro rock. The accompanying video was directed and edited by Eliot Galán of Galán Films, a key creative in Vancouver's film & tv industry, starring Analissa Longoria and Mat Durie.

This release also features the more dance-oriented 'Illuminate (Delta Omega Remix)', produced by Delta Omega a.k.a. Dublin-based Conor Paxton (House of Dolls, Buffalo Sunn, The Brothers Movement).

“The formidable sonic wizard that is Mr. Conor Paxton AKA Delta Omega is a long-time friend and musical collaborator of mine. After initially bonding over a mutual love of Death in Vegas, My Bloody Valentine and Primal Scream, we formed House of Dolls and duly embarked on many gloriously heady adventures and misadventures across Ireland, the UK and Europe," says Stephen Nicholas White.

"This remix he has done for 'Illuminate' is indicative of just how well he understands the essence of what I’m doing with Revolution Above Disorder. Coming at it with a dreamy, psychedelic sensibility, it calls to mind peak Ecstasy-driven New Order, early seventies Germany, all filtered through an Eno-esque ambient shoegaze lens. I fucking love it. And I think you will too.”

As of October 22, the 'Illuminate' maxi-single will be released digitally everywhere, including Apple Music, Spotify and directly from the artist via Bandcamp.

Dubliner STEPHEN NICHOLAS WHITE releases debut REVOLUTION ABOVE DISORDER single 'Illuminate'

"Takes the prize for the perfect nugaze single... if White were looking for a sonic something that balanced out the familiar and innovative, something cold yet calming, something futuristic while rooted in retro electro, then he has solidly hit the nail on the head here" ~ The Spill Magazine

“I love working with Stephen. There’s a trust and flow that spawns a real magic in the music. You can hear the adventure in the songs" ~ Jason Corbett (ACTORS, Jacknife Sound)

Revolution Above Disorder presents his debut offering - 'Illuminate' - a powerful and euphoric post-punk / shoegaze single rooted in new wave and electro rock - a melting pot of post-punk, psychedelic rock and electronic music underpinned by raw, sincere vocals.

Revolution Above Disorder is the solo moniker of Dubliner Stephen Nicholas White (The Orange Kyte, House of Dolls, The Subterranean Satellite Band, Magic Shoppe), who is currently based in Vancouver. Revolution Above Disorder’s music is electronic-tinged post-punk with raw, honest lyrics driving the songs.

Experimental in its sound, but with a strong emphasis on songs and lyrics, 'Illuminate' is the original version previewing this 3-track release. This is guitar-based rock augmented by synths, drum machines and heavily treated instrumentation with a spine of pure melody.

Where The Orange Kyte was an exercise in saying yes to everything and seeing what happens, allowing the sound and personnel to morph, twist, evolve and devolve, Revolution Above Disorder is driven by a well-defined over-arching postpunk-psychedelic aesthetic, as well as a more polished and meticulously crafted approach in the studio.

"Illuminate’ is the song that kick started Revolution Above Disorder. '‘Illuminate’ was the first one I needed to record," says Stephen Nicholas White.

"This was originally conceived in 2013, albeit with different lyrics. I changed the lyrics from a song of misery and self-pity to an optimistic song of enlightenment and transcendence. It’s a song about getting your shit together and overcoming your own bullshit. A call to arms of sorts as a reminder to dig deep when distraction and resistance come knocking. The first line is ‘Revolution above disorder, divinity over all else…’, it seemed appropriate to use Revolution Above Disorder as the name for the entire project after that."

The video was directed and edited by Eliot Galán of Galán Films, a key creative (cinematographer, director, videographer, editor and colourist) in Vancouver's film & tv industry, starring Analissa Longoria and Mat Durie.

The 'Illuminate' single was produced, mixed and mastered at Jacknife Sound by Jason Corbett of ACTORS. The track features ACTORS' Shannon Hemmett and Kendall Wooding on backing vocals, and bandmate Adam Fink on drums, as well as Josiah Webb of Magic Shoppe on guitar.

'lluminate (Delta Omega Remix)' was remixed / produced by Delta Omega a.k.a. Conor Paxton (House of Dolls, Buffalo Sunn, The Brothers Movement) in Dublin, Ireland

As of September 21, 'Illuminate' will be available as an instant gratification track via Apple Music and Bandcamp. The 3-track 'Illuminate' single will be released digitally on October 22.
