Sweden's melodic death metal veterans SOILWORK are back with big news! After their EP release back in December of 2021, it is time for the first studio album in three years. About
SOILWORK's steady consistency in creativity, which they have been delivering for years and also inspiring their fans with, is probably the most appropriate virtue that describes the band. Founded at the end of 1995, SOILWORK released their debut album Steelbath Suicide in 1998, which already received a good response. Between their debut album and album number five there were only five years, which means that by 2005 the band already had a lot of material out and since the switch to Nuclear Blast in 2001 at the latest, they had made the breakthrough. After a three-year album break, also caused by pandemic and difficult working conditions, SOILWORK are standing now in the starting blocks with their twelfth album Övergivenheten which is set to release in August 2022.
Additionally, the band announced that Rasmus Ehrborn has officially joined as new bass player in the beginning of this year, which makes the SOILWORK line-up complete and ready again to capture the stages around the world!

Modern Mimes is an American music artist trio from Fort Lauderdale, FL. The trio consists of Adi Elcida Hernandez on vocals/guitar/sampling, Ernesto Paez on the double neck guitar bass and Justin Perez on drums.. Their music can be best described as "Future Goth," a term they coined in order to explain the fusion of alternative heavy guitar riffs, powerfully haunting vocals, subconscious provoking lyrics, electronic drums, and catchy pop melodies. The band has released their cover of Sevendust's "My Ruin" to all digital outlets along with an accompanying music video.

Harrisburg, PA based Heavy Rock band ETERNAL FREQUENCY has released the second installment of their dark, cinematic, sci-fi imbued series, "A.I." Established in the early spring of 2018, Eternal Frequency is a five piece, female fronted all original hard rock band hailing from Central Pennsylvania (alongside hometown heroes Poison, From Ashes to New, Fuel, LIVE, August Burns Red). They follow in the footsteps of acts such as Spiritbox, Halestorm, Evanescence, and others. Blending influences of Metalcore, Hard rock, and Active Rock, Eternal Frequency brings a new energy that is also dominated by vocalist, songwriter, and frontwoman Emelle. New Album 'White Lightning' Out July 1, 2022

The Boppers have released a brand new video for their latest single "Motorbikin'" from the upcoming album 'White Lightning'.

 The video is a tribute to Motorbikin’, and Matte (vocals, guitar) comments on the video, "Spring is here, the streets are swept so it feels really suiting to release a black and white video-dream of the feeling and freedom on two wheels."

 The "Motorbikin'" video was recorded in Stockholm and produced by Hans Erkendal and Leo Josefsson at House Of Wizard.

 The video will also be shown on a big screen at the Drive-In-Rockabilly Party in Vimmerby on Saturday, May 14th, together with a The Boppers documentary and followed by a The Boppers show!

 "Motorbikin'" is written by Chris Spedding and is the second single from the new album.

 The new album, White Lightning, is produced by Tomas Skogsberg and set for release on July 1, 2022!

LA-based collective Beauty In Chaos presents their new single 'Afterlife', an atmospheric track featuring Tish Ciravolo, who also appeared on the 'Lookup' single from the group’s debut release in 2018. This is a lush and dreamy taster of their new ‘Behind The Veil’ LP, recently released in multiple formats via the label 33.3 Music Collective.

"Trying to capture a near-death experience in a song is an experience that I never knew I would be able to creatively achieve. Sharing a solo imagery, a solo experience, something that only I had seen in my mind's eye, then conveying that through lyrics that made sense was my heavenly assignment. Then, trying to explain that cataclysm, that crescendo to a filmmaker to help capture those moments was the crux” says Tish Ciravolo

“This video brings my own experience between Heaven and Hell and brought out that light, that extremely beautiful contrast, the emotional pull of those few moments between life and death, like I could never have dreamed or imagined.”

Recorded, mixed and produced by Grammy nominated producer Michael Rozon, This all-female featured collection brings back three BIC alumni – Tish Ciravolo, Cinthya Hussey and Betsy Martin – as well as new family members Whitney Tai, Elena Alice Fossi and Pinky Turzo. Apart from six originals, this release features diverse reworkings by such renowned music visionaries as Tim Palmer, MGT, John Fryer, Statik, Tommy Hatz, Julian Shah-Tayler and Rozon himself.

“When the music to this track started to come together in the studio, before any lyrics, I knew this would be the album’s lead-off ‘needle drop’ song. It just felt right. The track has a sort of non-traditional arrangement. I thought it would be a bit challenging for most singers. I loved what my wife had done on 'Lookup”' putting herself into the lyrics, yet having a message of hope," BIC curator Michael Ciravolo.

"When Michael Rozon and I heard what she did with the track … turning it into a song, we were both ecstatic. I usually go with my first instinct on things, and, to me, 'Afterlife' is the perfect opener for this album. It sets a mood I wanted, and Michael Rozon’s production is second to none."

Rain City Drive Drop New Track + Music Video "Waiting On You" via Thriller Records

Hailing from Palm Coast, FL, post-hardcore mainstays Rain City Drive have today released their latest single and music video, "Waiting On You" (out via Thriller Records). The band has also announced their forthcoming self-titled album 'Rain City Drive' out on Friday, July 15. Speaking on today's news, frontman Matt McAndrews shares:

"'Waiting on You' was in part inspired by being stuck inside during the pandemic and waiting for life/work/inspiration to start back up again. There was a lot of fear and anxiety during that time and the world was coming to terms with our interactions becoming more and more virtual.

Musically, “Waiting on You” sounded like the album opener to us, so I wanted to write the lyrics in a way that would fill the listener in on what happened since we released the last record. "

Prior to today's release, the band first dropped their track "Cutting It Close" which was added into major rotation on Sirius/XM’s Octane where it’s been spun over 900 times (to date) spending several weeks on the station’s Big ‘Uns Countdown peaking at #5. Rain City Drive next released "Dreams", and both songs together have to date amassed over 3 million streams across US streaming platforms. Ritual doom metal act Frayle are pleased to announced they have aligned forces with The Oracle Management, and are now part of the roster that also includes Cradle of Filth, DevilDriver, Jinjer, Wednesday 13 and more hard rock and metal acts all represented by co-owners of The Oracle Management Dez and Anahstasia Fafara.

The signing comes as Frayle gets ready to release a new album Skin & Sorrow July 8 via Aqualamb Records.

In one of the first orders of business, Frayle has joined on for the upcoming Cradle of Filth “Existence Is Futile” Headlining Tour, on the off dates from COF’s trek with Danzig. The tour begins May 12 and hits 17 cities across North America – full details are below.

Says Frayle, “Music is magick. We look forward to conjuring the Heavy Witch Doom as we share the stage with the legendary Cradle of Filth.”

Recently Frayle released the single and music video for “Skin & Sorrow,” the title track from their upcoming anticipated release. Directed by Frayle and premiered by Revolver, the video is set in a barren field below a dead gray sky as frontwoman Gwyn Strang dons her best Puritanical ensemble while casting a number of spells, not the least of which is on the viewer entranced by her hypnotic mystique.

“Skin & Sorrow” follows Frayle’s groundbreaking debut 1692 in 2020 that further introduced the world to their penchant for creating “lullabies over chaos.” Tracks feature Strang’s ethereal vocals laid over the voluminous instrumentals of Sean Bilovecky (formerly of Disengage), morphing into disturbing harmonies best described as music for the night sky.

Revolver who also named the band “one of the five artists you need to know in April” as seen HERE, calls the song an “awesomely haunting and dirgy title-track” and one that “is eerie and ethereal for its first half, but slowly lets more crunchy fuzz into the fold that builds up to a detonating finish with gobs of spiritual atmosphere.”

In addition to haunting original tracks that push heavy music into new dimensions (an inspirational mix of Sleep and Portishead, or Black Sabbath and Bjork), the Cleveland duo is known for their cryptic covers including takes on Johnny Cash’s “Ring Of Fire” and Bauhaus’ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead.”

Tales From Six Feet Under, the first solo endeavor of former Delain singer and songwriter CHARLOTTE WESSELS, was released via Napalm Records in fall 2021, and debuts a song in her native language, Dutch rocker “Afkicken”. Today, Wessels' has released a breathtaking new full production music video for the song, which marks the last video for Tales From Six Feet Under at the same time.

“Afkicken”, the compilation's second track, enchants with electronic industrial vibes and a flattering vocal performance while conjuring a hauntingly dark atmosphere wrapping around from the very first tone. It's another inimitable proof of Wessels' multifaceted nature and wide artistic range, heating the anticipation even more for everything that is to come in the future!

“From the moment I finished the track "Afkicken" - my very first song in Dutch, I desperately wanted to tell the story of the song's protagonist in a way that transcends language. I'm thrilled about this absolute fever dream of a video full of cults, monsters and murder I've put together with the amazing cast and VideoInk crew. This video isn't only an ode to some of my favorite films; on a personal level, it presented some brand new experiences and challenges, from wild choreographies to some serious shape-shifting. I'm really excited to bring this one into the world!”

Unable to perform live due to the pandemic, Wessels spent most of last year buried in her Six Feet Under home studio, writing, performing and producing an eclectic wealth of songs. Tales From Six Feet Under offers her favorites out of the bunch and marks an electrifying collection with gems ranging from melancholic indie pop to synth-infused rock. The record features Wessels’ rendition of Goth classic “Cry Little Sister”, as well as a beautiful synergy of the stunning voices of CHARLOTTE WESSELS and  Alissa White-Gluz on “Lizzie”. The mesmerizing and haunting “Victor” was released in April this year along with a visually palpable music video. “Soft Revolution” showcases the artist right where the magic happens; in her Six Feet Under studio. The song - part sweet sorrow, part soaring call to action, is quickly becoming a fan favourite.

Vévaki Signs to Season of Mist, Debuts New Song + Music Video

Season of Mist os proud to announce the signing of dark neo-folk collective VÉVAKI! The band will release their second album, ‘Fórnspeki,’ via Season of Mist in the fall of 2022. In celebration of the signing, the band is debuting a brand new single, "Jötnablót," along with a music video. The video can be found below.

VÉVAKI comment on the signing: "We are beyond thrilled to join the Season of Mist family. To be a part of a label that respects artistic freedom and encourages artists to be themselves is all we could ever hope for. We cannot wait to continue with our ritualistic creations, and to share our vision with the world."

Originally a solo project by singer and multi-instrumentalist Will Hunter, VÉVAKI is a folk band which draws from Nordic heathenism and animistic traditions. Myth, ritual and a connection with the natural world inform VÉVAKI’s music, which is both contemporary in sound and wide-ranging in instrumentation.

Debut album ‘Edda’ came in 2020 when VÉVAKI was a still a solo project, although Sigurboði Grétarsson and Florian Baudrain made contributions. Taking a collection of Old Norse poetry – the Poetic Edda – as its source material, ‘Edda’ breaths new life into these stories through its musical journey, at once beautiful and hypnotically heady.

VÉVAKI’s second album, ‘Fórnspeki’, finds the band expanding upon their sound while staying true to their folk roots and traditions.  Sigurboði Grétarsson has joined VÉVAKI as a full-time member, as has Gísli Gunnarsson and Hrafnhildur Inga Guðjónsdóttir. The new material is, says Will, broader and more mature sounding.

“VÉVAKI is very much based in our modern heathen tradition,” Will notes. “Sigurboði and I had been playing music for a while and we have used music as part of our personal spiritual practise. We had worked on some songs together but they were very much personal. Then we had a jam session in this cave in Iceland and afterwards we tried to record a song. I asked if Sigurboði would feature on it and he said yes, thankfully. Then I went home and used my home recording equipment to do a song which we sent to Danheim (Danish folk musician) and he put me on his online record label. And that’s how VÉVAKI started. We did a full album from there. Sigurboði featured heavily on it, even though he wasn’t in the band in any official capacity. But he did lots of drums and vocals and stuff like that.”

VÉVAKI employ various stringed instruments and percussion throughout their music, its dynamics buoyed by the complementary vocal styles of Will, Sigurboði and Hrafnhildur and the cinematic soundscapes sculpted by Gísli Gunnarsson. This comes to the fore on ‘Fórnspeki’.

“We decided to go a bit bigger,” says Will. “We started working on the second album and we brought in Gísli, and the sound has changed quite a bit, I think. It’s much more mature now. In my opinion, Gísli is the glue that holds us together. He comes from a modern classical background. And Hrafnhildur was an obvious choice, to add an important female dynamic. Her voice has a healing quality to it, I think, and that’s a big thing with the new album.”

Ritual and spiritual practises provide a structure to ‘Fórnspeki’.
“Our practice is very animistic,” says Will. “But you don’t have to be a super spiritual person to feel some sort of connection to nature. And we just hope that whoever is listening finds that our music brings some sort of connection for them.

Sigurboði adds, “‘Fórnspeki’ was composed around this concept of the ritual and of the performance. There will be a performance and ritual on stage, because that’s how the songs are imagined. And some of the songs came from rituals that we’ve done or have spawned from the rituals. For example, the song ‘Dísablót’ is based around a ritual that we would do. It’s got lots of chants in there that we would do and we hope that other people might be inspired. On this new album we have a lot of original lyrics. But it’s both based in the myth and the practice. It’s not all about the gods but also about the worship and the ritual.”

VÉVAKI is a fluid and resourceful project, employing traditional and contemporary instrumentation of various origins.

“We’re not going for historical accuracy,” points out Sigurboði. “We’re not married to the idea that it has to be a Nordic instrument. We’re not Vikings. We’re not the Shamans, or the Priests. We are the practitioners, the regular folk making the offerings.”

Adds Will, “We are trying to step away from that whole Viking thing. There are modern songs for modern beliefs. We put a lot of emphasis on that.”

“H.T.H.”, which are simply abbreviations for our self-titled track, is a nod and an “ode to” some of the classic heavy metal songs and bands that we grew up on that influenced us all. Tony who is singing leads on this track, took some song titles, words and lines from obvious metal songs and made them work writing them into song complete lyrics. Our idea was to have that same “metal militia” type vibe. I believe we accomplished that.” - says Opus (Drummer of Hail the Horns).

This song “HAIL THE HORNS” was produced, mixed & mastered by Nicky Bellmore, who has also done the likes of Dee Snider (and also plays drums for his solo band as well), Corpse Grinder, Jasta/Hatebreed, Dead By Wednesday, Generation Kill, Toxic Holocaust, and many more!

ILLENIUM LINKS WITH SPIRITBOX FOR HEAVY METAL BASS HYBRID SINGLE “SHIVERING”

Today, GRAMMY® Award-nominated artist ILLENIUM returns with “Shivering,” a roaring new single featuring Canadian heavy metal band Spiritbox. Alongside the genre-blurring track, ILLENIUM also announces a forthcoming remix album, FALLEN EMBERS (Remixes), out on May 27. Pre-order the club-ready project HERE.

Heartbreak gets a heavy metal bass twist on “Shivering,” a floorfiller that the multiplatinum cross-genre phenomenon previewed during his blistering set at Ultra Music Festival in March. Over ILLENIUM’s production – a storm of aggressive drums, wailing guitars, and engulfing drops – Spiritbox vocalist Courtney LaPlante sings with raging sorrow to a former flame: “All this time I burned alive till you found someone else / So everytime you think of me, can you feel me shivering?”

On collaborating with Spiritbox, ILLENIUM shared, “Spiritbox has been one of my favorite bands for a minute and being able to work with them has been a dream. They’re incredibly talented and Courtney has a voice unlike anyone. Definitely one of my favorite songs I’ve been a part of.”

“Shivering” follows ILLENIUM’s previous singles “Story of My Life” with Sueco and Trippie Redd and “Wouldn’t Change A Thing” featuring Thirty Seconds To Mars – which marked the first new music from the band in three years. The latter track was featured on ILLENIUM’s deluxe edition of his 2021 full-length FALLEN EMBERS. The original LP earned a GRAMMY® nomination earlier this year for Best Dance/Electronic Album and is currently up for Top Dance/Electronic Album at the Billboard Music Awards – which takes place this Sunday, May 15.

All the while, ILLENIUM’s stock continues to skyrocket. Last month, he put his own melodic-bass spin on Nirvana’s iconic “Something in the Way,” marking his first remix in over two years. The remix was inspired by the release of The Batman and his collaboration with DC Comics. IANAI Release New Single "Khaalo"

"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."

 

World prehistory is abundant with flood myths, from Chinese and Norse mythology to the first book of Moses, in which God decides to wipe out his entire creation, save for what species could travel aboard Noah's ark. What was essentially destroyed by the Great Flood was the hybrid race of giants begotten by angels and humans - the Nephilim. The question remains, however, whether some of them actually survived. 

 

It is against this backdrop that the story of IANAI begins. The multinational ensemble led by renowned musician Jaani Peuhu channels music given to them, sung in an ancient language. IANAI’s music is imbued with flavors from indigenous musical cultures around the globe and clothed in darkly hued indie moods, bringing to mind a hybrid between Sigur Ros and Dead Can Dance. Peuhu acts as a messenger between two worlds and IANAI is music carried from within through the ages. Now is the time to let the waking world hear it too.

 

From the first outset of the debut musical offering Sunir and the first single “Savoj Icoil”, IANAI abandons the typical notions of ice and frost in which it is depicted, and rather than desolation, offers a guiding force through the notes and words. While the physical manifestation of this album has been years in the making, IANAI decided to pierce the veil during a time when the world was imprisoned and suffering unimaginable loss.

 

As the album progresses, listeners transcend through the instrumentation of Scandinavia, Africa, Asia, Middle East and South America. And while IANAI walks a long path, winding through the earth, IANAI does not walk alone, but seeks to share and learn, collaborate and conceive, music and art. From celestial harmonies to earthly delights, IANAI’s music is a reflection of both the worldly and otherworldly. Channeled through the vessel of the spirit Trevenial, the music voices in tongues long forgotten, singing the songs of the sons of God and the daughters of men. In a language unspoken on this plane, yet unmistakable in its meaning, IANAI embodies the freedom we seek and the ability to achieve that fluidity. 

 

In his music, IANAI is joined by a cohort of musicians from the world music scene and classical orchestras, but also people from modern bands such as Massive Attack (UK), Client (UK), HIM (Finland), Sisters Of Mercy (UK), Theodor Bastard (Russia), Lord Of The Lost (Germany), Swallow the Sun (Finland) and Souvenir Season (Germany).

 

The album Sunir will be released on June 10, 2022 on Svart Records. The album is produced by Jaani Peuhu (Swallow The Sun, Iconcrash, Mercury Circle) and mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios (Ghost, Ulver, Paradise Lost).

 

From a time before time, when the ancient ones roamed free, unburdened, IANAIwhispers through the boundary of legends.

About the new single "Khaalo", Jaani shares, "It is a song about confronting your own fears and limitations you've carried within since childhood. What things are suitable in our culture and what are we allowed to believe in? In this song, we're breaking free from all that, with no fear of being condemned by our peers or society. Out of our dark hiding places with small, fearful steps first and then onwards and upwards as high as we can. There's no stopping us."
