About ARKAIK:

Arkaik is a progressive death metal band hailing from Northern California. Formed in 2004 by Jared Christianson and Chance Strickland, Arkaik was born within the blossoming Bay Area Tech-Death scene that would soon influence many of today’s popular bands. Through elaborate story-telling and their unique musical style, Arkaik imparts bits of esoteric wisdom through an ongoing lyrical narrative that continues to bring each listener on an epic hero’s journey.

Arkaik has been joined by many all-star members who have each left their mark in the band and contributed greatly - some of which still do behind the scenes. Alex Haddad (Dessiderium, Nullingroots) joined the band in 2018 during The Devastation On The Nation Tour, taking on guitar duties. Jared, Alex, and Nathan now comprise the core unit of Arkaik that will mark a new and exciting chapter for the band - creating a more focused and recognizable sound than ever before.

Having toured the bulk of The United States and Canada with popular acts such as Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Psycroptic, Fallujah, Exhumed, and many more, Arkaik has made a name for themselves both on and off stage.

In 2019, after several years with Unique Leader, Arkaik joined forces with The Artisan Era to produce a single entitled “Supernal Flame”. Under this new record label, the band will unleash their fifth full-length album, 'Labyrinth of Hungry Ghosts' on March 11th, 2022.

'Shine' - the new single by Kid Moxie - OUT NOW

Who is who

Elena Charbila has an established track record as a composerproducer and recording artist under her moniker “Kid Moxie.

Kid Moxie’s cinematic pop music has been featured in multiple TV commercials including a national Victoria’s Secret ad campaign, several TV shows and numerous indie films.

produced by electro artist Faderhead during a quick two-day session the two had last summer in Hamburg. The video is a
glossy nod to Robert Palmer’s “Addicted To Love” with a queer twist.

“When Faderhead and I started writing the song I was definitely channeling some Depeche Mode vibes, and I even made a joke that Dave Gahan should be singing this. The line ‘I’m taking a ride with my best friend’ kept circling around my head, and then I decided that this song is indeed about a

drive these two girls are taking, only a bit more sinister ’cause it ends up with them having sex in the back seat of the car.”

FOSCOR Shares New Music Video for Song, "Misofonia"

Catalan atmospheric metal band FOSCOR is now sharing a stunning new music video for the song "Misofonia" to celebrate the band's 20 year anniversary! The track previously only appeared on bonus physical editions of the band's 2017 opus, 'Les Irreals Visions,' and had not been released digitally. Watch the video below.

Both "Misofonia" and bonus track "Traces Mòrbides" will be released via digital streaming services for the first time ever. The band is also releasing commemorative merch, which can be found HERE.

The band comments:
"We wished but never expected to accomplish 20 years as a band, and even less to have no chance to celebrate it as we have always done with past important episodes, playing live and gathering as many friends around as possible.

"When the pandemic locked everything down, some of us also lived some of the hardest moments of our lives due to other circumstances, worsened by the isolation and emotional challenge that mankind has dealt with. Everything started taking shape when thinking on how getting closer to you all and share some of those so intimate struggles.

"The B-side 'Misofonia' (Misophonia), literally "hatred of sound," developed a putative disorder of uncertain classification in which negative emotions, thoughts, and physical reactions are triggered by specific sounds. Working on a video for that song and translating its real meaning into a common dialogue of metaphors and factors we, as individuals, have and are continuously dealing with, was like a first act of offering and redemption with you and ourselves.

"The music video turns the sound disorder into a dialogue between our own refuges and the city itself, both full of challenging and disturbing threats as you probably have tested during these last two years.

"While we assure you that there will be more music and visual stimulation during the next months, in order to celebrate these two decades as a band, the release of 'Misofonia' and 'Traces Mòrbides' along a very special commemorative apparel design, make us feel joyful and grateful.

"Hope you enjoy and share the celebration!

"To all of us, and for many more years of tragic darkness..."

All FOSCOR albums and merch can be ordered HERE.

The Catalans return with the second chapter of the trilogy initiated with “Les Irreals Visions” in 2017, yet strongly connected to the fin de siècle cultural movement of Modernisme - a parallel development to Art Nouveau and Jugendstil among others. Visual things must acquire a new secret appearance, and with ‘Els Sepulcres Blancs’ FOSCOR treats poetically how facing a change of a sick world and society through the land of dreams.

The title translates as “The White Tombs”, a metaphor for that world of dreams and expectations where humans chained to reality may die and born free to imagine a better one.

FOSCOR hail from Catalonia, and take inspiration from the morbid, decadent, and sick reflections on a rapidly changing society, as the artistic landscape at the end of the nineteenth century shaped.

The name FOSCOR translates as "darkness" in their native Catalan tongue, which the band from Barcelona uses for their lyrics as a distinctive element and strong connection with their cultural reality.

The Catalans’ first two albums, 'Entrance to the Shadows' Village' (2004), 'The Smile of the Sad Ones' (2007) wrapped a shroud of classic second wave black metal around a melancholic yet vital core. 'Groans to the Guilty' (2009) witnessed FOSCOR setting out towards more progressive and avant-garde course, but it was next full-length 'Those Horrors Wither' (2014) which marked a clear departure from the black metal. Darkness found an equally strong expression through the use of very personal clean vocals, tempo reduction and atmosphere.

In 2017, FOSCOR took another step in their constantly changing and shifting evolution. The brand new release 'Les Irreals Visions' (2017) was easily drawing its eager audience in, only to lure the unwary listener into a dark labyrinth of unexpected complexity filled with beauty and sorrow. In 2018, FOSCOR explored these lines between reality, poetry and the beyond even further with a special digital release transforming their own music into a so intimate experience; 'Les Irreals Versions' (2018).

Now, 2019 promises to be as tragic as their music claims with the so sensitive release of 'Els Sepulcres Blancs', its characteristic melancholic sonic aura and catchy riffing intensity. Their most personal and delicate sound achievement to date.

Manchester underground stalwarts The Speed of Sound give us new 'Blood Sweat and Tears' with animated video

"Raw and edgy sound with guiding and invigorating sense of melody" ~ The Spill Magazine

“Unmistakeable sound a winning formula” ~ The Big Takeover

“A triumph of industry, imagination and talent, coolly novel and damned addictive”~ Louder Than War

‘Unique and other worldly” ~ Vive Le Rock

“A blend of disparate creative threads woven together into a cohesive and fantastic design" ~ The Swindonian

“A form of Art-Pop that is wry, incisive, yet a deeply listenable examination of post industrial culture” ~ Rock At Night

"A riotous maelstrom of musical mayhem” ~ The Manc Review

Manchester underground outfit The Speed Of Sound present 'Blood Sweat And Tears', the darkest song on their acclaimed 'Museum of Tomorrow' album; where buzzing fuzz guitar lines emerge from a delicate acoustic introduction to intersect with the crashing chords and the ‘bulbous pulsing’ rhythm section" (Record Collector Magazine).

'Blood Sweat And Tears' raises a punk rock fist of anger for the downtrodden at the structural economic forces that simultaneously drive high rents and low wages in the dystopian reality that is the 21st Century, where a living wage is insufficient to live.

This song represents a cry for humanity at the inhumanity of corporate indifference. Protest is never useless. In the video, a dreamlike high street shopping scene forms the visual backdrop, where people are recast as mere consumers and resources to be exploited.

Hailing from Manchester, The Speed Of Sound's music is optimistic, but with lyrical bite, a punk-inspired DIY ethos and lust for experimentation rooted in psychedelia. Formed in 1989 with a pre-history dating back to the day Andy Warhol died in 1987, The Speed of Sound lies deep below the ‘music industry radar’, allowing for the evolution of their own distinctive sound and live act.

The Speed of Sound is made up of father and son John Armstrong (guitars and vocals) and Henry Armstrong (keyboards), Ann-Marie Crowley (vocals and guitar), Kevin Roache (bass guitar) and John Broadhurst (drums).

'Museum of Tomorrow' is out now via Big Stir Records. Released 32 years to the day when the band's debut EP saw the light of day in 1989, the new LP is available digitally, on CD and limited-edition 170g heavy weight vinyl (black and colour). Find the album on Apple Music, Spotify, Bandcamp and Big Stir's website.

ABOUT ANIMALS AS LEADERS

It might sound strange to associate “storytelling” with instrumental music. But ANIMALS AS LEADERS jettisoned the rules, limitations, and boundaries of conventional rock music from the start. Armed with palette-expanding eight-string guitars, rich synths, and pummeling percussive grooves, the trio is beloved by metalheads, aspiring virtuosos, jazz fanatics, and casual listeners alike. As Pitchfork observed, “Animals As Leaders have walked the tightrope between sheer technical virtuosity and actual emotional resonance.” Even without vocals, this is intimate, myth-making music.

ANIMALS AS LEADERS began as a solo outlet for guitarist Tosin Abasi, whose creative partnership with classically trained guitarist Javier Reyes and Berklee-educated drummer Matt Garstka is built on a shared love of everything from fusion to technical death metal. Garstka graced the cover of Modern Drummer in 2015. In one of his many appearances on their cover, Guitar World named Tosin among the Guitarists of the Decade. Rolling Stone featured him as part of their “Young Guns” series. The Chicago Tribune declared him “the closest thing prog-metal has to an Eddie Van Halen.”

Kerrang! included their album, 'Weightless' among its Best Albums of 2011. 'The Joy of Motion' entered the Billboard 200 at No. 24 in 2014, and 'The Madness of Many' cracked the Top 20 in 2016. Now more than a decade into their career, a quick look at the bands they’ve toured with demonstrates the consistently diverse appeal of ANIMALS AS LEADERS. It’s a list that includes Korn, Deftones, Thrice, Meshuggah, Underoath, TesseracT, and Circa Survive as well as major festivals with the likes of Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold, and Slipknot.

ANIMALS AS LEADERS offer more than clinic-ready musicianship and proficiency. A focus on mood, texture, and emotive power elevates the material past any preconceived notions, resulting in a fascinatingly unique phenomenon, with an unlikely and profound appeal across multiple sub-genres and over 200 million career streams to date.

We all know how talented the guys in Animals As Leaders are. Absurdly talented,” declared Metal Sucks. “They are one of the finest, most interesting units in modern music.

THUNDER ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM DOPAMINE OUT APRIL 29TH 2022 ON BMG

SHARE NEW SINGLE ‘THE WESTERN SKY’
LISTEN TO THE SINGLE & PREORDER

THE ALBUM HERE

Icons of British hard rock, Thunder, have announced a brand new album, ‘Dopamine’, out on 29th April 2022, as well as unveiling the first single lifted from it, ‘The Western Sky’, the new video is available to watch below.

‘Dopamine’ is Thunder’s first ever double-album, and consists of 16 tracks – something that is resonant with the album’s themes.

Guitarist, songwriter and Thunder co-founder Luke Morley says: “'We didn’t set out to make a double album but as the writing and recording process went on we wandered into some interesting areas and then it became a case of 'can we afford to leave any of this off?’ In the end we did reduce it from 20 tunes to 16 but it wasn’t an easy choice.”
Satirical and urgent but never downcast, ‘Dopamine’ was inspired by the world’s mass retreat to social media during the pandemic lockdowns, endlessly hunting for the next hit of happy hormones.

“I read a fascinating article by an American psychologist,” says Luke, “who said that social media forces us to become dopamine addicts. We’re validated and liked on social media, which releases the dopamine – and so we get addicted to it. We take more and more selfies in the hope of more and more validation, and the album cover reflects this. People are surrounded by amazing things that they’re missing because they’re so self-obsessed. Of course, you’ll have to get your hands on the physical album to see all of the amazing things I’m referring to.”

The new single and first taste of the album, ‘The Western Sky’, shows that despite the rallying against instant gratification, sound-wise Thunder are as immediate as ever.

The razor-sharp, riff-driven track celebrates the band’s annual trans-American charity motorbike trip.

The new album comes at the perfect time for Thunder, whose line-up for the last quarter-century and more has been Luke and Danny Bowes (singer), plus Ben Matthews (guitar and keyboards), Chris Childs (bass) and Harry James (drums).

They’ve been riding a wave of success since their 2015 comeback album Wonder Days, releasing the acclaimed All The Right Noises last year, with Classic Rock speculating that it could be the band’s best album yet. The record went Top 3 in the UK Albums Chart; a quite incredible feat for a British hard rock band into their 4th decade. Globally, it was one of their most successful albums to date. Giving them their first top 10 in Germany and Switzerland; their highest chart entry in Japan, Belgium, and Austria; and for the first time they charted in markets including France and Spain.

And make no mistake – the last 30 years have been a rollercoaster ride. Thunder had a start in life like few other bands, delivering a killer debut LP with 1990’s Backstreet Symphony and scoring a US record deal with the help of a keen fan, Axl Rose of Guns N’Roses. Songs like ‘Dirty Love’ and ‘Low Life In High Places’ – according to the late radio legend Tommy Vance, “the greatest ever single released by a rock band” – have gone on to enter the British rock canon.

Despite these early triumphs, rewarded with gold awards and one of the most enduring fanbases on the planet, changes in musical fashions and two breakups made Thunder’s progress a rocky road indeed.

All that changed with the current sequence of albums that kicked off seven years ago with Wonder Days. Too vital to be simply labelled veterans, too varied in style to be just another classic rock band.

Thunder are at the very peak of their considerable form, still offering fans doses of ‘Dopamine’ after all these years.

The album will be available in CD and double LP vinyl, with exclusive lenticular cover versions available only from the Thunder online store.

About Amon Amarth

Amon Amarth stand tall and unassailable: over 25 years into a career that has seen them evolve from humble origins in the dark, dank rehearsal rooms of their native Tumba to their current status as explosive festival headliners and one of the metal world’s most widely adored bands.

Formed in 1992, Amon Amarth became modern metal greats the hard way. Ruthlessly dedicated to creating new music and taking it out on the road, the Swedes steadily built a formidable reputation as a ferocious live band and, as the years passed, were increasingly recognized for their recorded achievements too. Since the dawn of the millennium, Amon Amarth have been unstoppable.

Breakthrough releases like 2006’s ‘With Oden On Our Side and its now legendary follow-up, 2008’s ‘Twilight Of The Thunder God, further cemented their popularity throughout the metal world, while the band’s stage show evolved with each successive tour, transforming into one of modern metal’s truly great spectacles. Amon Amarth returned in 2019 with their biggest, boldest and most bombastic musical statement to date - ‘Berserker- which brought with it an epic, history-making trek across North America with fellow Swedes Arch Enemy, At The Gates, and Grand Magus and saw multiple sell-outs. To date the band have clocked up a mammoth 270 million YouTube views and 547 million streams across their releases with over 2 million albums sold worldwide.

The follow-up to 2019’s much lauded 'Berserker' album is in development for a possible Summer 2022 release.

AENIMUS RELEASE VISUALIZER FOR THEIR COVER OF OPETH''S "DEMON OF THE FALL"

AENIMUS comments, "When Nuclear Blast approached us with the idea of covering a classic metal song, we honestly had a hard time deciding what song or even artist we would cover. We went back and forth for months before one of our label reps brought up the idea of paying tribute to OPETH. This idea felt immediately right with all of us. Opeth is one of Greg's favorite bands and they are one of the pioneers of progressive death metal, so it was an easy yes. We decided to go with one of their older songs, 'Demon of the Fall' because not only is it a great song that is heavy and really fit the vibes we were going for with our follow up EP Sacrificial but we felt with today's modern production we could really transform this song into something amazing. When reimagining this track, we wanted to keep that classic OPETH feel to it but give it a more modern AENIMUS sound so we focused in on adding a full orchestration behind the song and Brian even added a nice arpeggio section over one of the instrumental breaks. We are super happy how it all turned out and hope that the legends in OPETH get a chance to hear it, and maybe even dig it too.

22 OCEANS release dreamy Americana single 'Home' + 5-track EP of indie pop goodness

"A personal, introspective song with gracious vocals, grounded in sparse music terrain - most inviting and endearing" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"Wonderful slice of ambient atmospherics... calming and elegiac" ~ With Just a Hint of Mayhem

"Highly melodic... charismatic vocals and sweet vocal harmonies" ~ Loud Sounds 8

"Captivating track... Home floats on dreampop clouds, whilst drifting towards ambient-pop. Through the pensive lyrics, and sparse soundscape, Home takes you to a reverie retreat, a place of reflection, that uplifts and lingers with a haunting beauty" ~ The Manc Review

British indie pop artist 22 Oceans presents their new single 'Home', a beautiful slice of Americana-tinged minimalist electronica previewing their new 5-track 'Home' EP,released via 72rpm Records and mastered by renowned producer Marc Joy (Primal Scream, Mike Peters, Oasis, Bernard Butler, Golden Fable, Louise Trehy) at Ferndale Studios in Wales.

Since emerging on the indie music scene in 2020, 22 Oceans has been presenting a steady string of new music. While influenced by 80’s influenced synthpop, their new single brings this artist into new territory while retaining their trademark ethereal vocals.

Based in Merseyside, this project is the brainchild of Mike Guy.While originally a solo project, 22 Oceans has blossomed into a fruitful trio, graced by the vocal and songwriting talents of twin sisters Carys and Keeley Hughes, whose stellar tandem of vocal harmonies complement a backdrop of lush, layered sounds.

'Home' follows up the singles 'Drifting' and 'Broken' feat. Jo Madden, both of which were released in 2021. The early 2020 'Butterfly Candy' EP saw Mike Guy collaborate with Wales-based dreampop artist Lights That Change, while the subsequent 'Paradise' EP featured Liverpool vocalist Rachael Dunn and also involved Orchestral Manoeuvres In the Dark (OMD) co-founder and drummer Malcolm Holmes.

"The song 'Home' was inspired by ideas about returning to the comfort of your home, which doesn’t necessarily have to be a place, but rather the people who have made a large impact on your life," says Mike Guy.

"The song is rooted in the feeling of happiness you feel when thinking about the memories you’ve made with people you enjoy spending time with. It is a reflection of how we are always connected to those we love, no matter how much time may have passed."

As of February 22, 'Home' will be available across online stores and streaming platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify. 'Home' will be offered as part of a full 5-track EP exclusively via Bandcamp.

Rockland Road Releases "Mountains Up Ahead" Co-written by GRAMMY® Winner Marcus Hummon

Vocal group Rockland Road came across a song a few years ago that they instantly felt passionate about, though they could hardly have imagined how meaningful it would be coming out of a worldwide pandemic. “Mountains Up Ahead” not only speaks to the peaks and valleys we’ve all experienced in the last two years, but also carries a message of resiliency. The new single and video will be available today, Friday, Feb. 25, through all streaming platforms and digital retailers HERE. Watch the video below.

Co-written by Grammy Award–winning singer/songwriter Marcus Hummon (“One of These Days”/Tim McGraw, “Bless the Broken Road”/Rascal Flatts), “Mountains Up Ahead” doesn’t pull any punches—people everywhere have found themselves “too afraid to whisper” and “too angry to shout." But as the chorus explains, there is a path to putting our troubles behind us:

Keep the mountains up ahead

Keep close to the river

Turn where the river bends

Leave all your valleys in the rearview mirror

The dust will rise and they will disappear

March Martin’s soulful lead vocal is perfectly accompanied by the texture-rich harmonies provided by his dad, Paul, a Grammy Award-winning artist who has played with Marty Stuart and the Oak Ridge Boys and is the former lead singer of country/pop supergroup Exile; his mom, Jamie Allen Martin, daughter of Oak Ridge Boys’ lead singer Duane Allen and his wife, Opry singer Norah Lee; and siblings Kell, Texas and Tallant—all six are talented vocalists who play an incredible 23 different instruments.

“We immediately felt connected to this song and knew we had to record it, but had no idea just how relevant the message would become once the world seemed to change overnight,” Jamie says. “Now that it appears things are opening up again, we are thrilled to release this song and get back to playing live music!”

Rockland Road has performed everywhere from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Grand Ole Opry to the U.S. Library of Congress and the White House. The group already has several dates scheduled for this spring before hitting the summer fair festival trail.

Teddy Robb Releases New EP: 'Get Away With It'

Charismatic country crooner Teddy Robb releases his highly-anticipated Get Away With It, on Monument Records, today.

From the revelatory “Whiskey Can’t” and smooth “Cigarettes’ll Kill Ya,” to a new take on a song about trucks, “1500,” Robb’s two brand-new songs “Middle of Nowhere” and “Get Away With It” round out the road-ready five track collection. Co-produced by Robb with Pete Good (Walker Hayes, Alex Hall), today’s release is Robb’s first new music since his self-titled 2020 release that included breakout “Lead Me On.”

“The last two years I really came to terms with how much time I was spending simply chasing. I was living in a concrete box in the sky, and many times not in the moment, posting what portrayed a picture-perfect image when reality as a working musician was pretty grim,” reveals the Akron, Ohio native. “These songs are my personal Polaroids, capturing sporadic moments in time that aren’t planned or perfect because life’s messy -- sometimes nothow you want to be remembered -- but those moments and images occupy the same real estate in our minds and deserve to be shared.”

Whether asking ‘How’d you get away it?’ after the bridge of the title track, or taking on the all too familiar notion of having ‘one of those nights to forget somebody,’ in “Middle of Nowhere,” Robb’s relatability reaches beyond the surface the tracks titles initially imply.

Born and raised in rural Ohio just 40 miles from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the rock-infused musician, songwriter, and singer’s move to Music City was inspired by greats Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, George Strait and Waylon Jennings, a sentiment Billboard recognizes as “a gritty sense of resignation pouring from a shattered heart.”

On Get Away With It, Robb delivers county music rooted in the imperfect, storytelling with heart, from a small town boy chasing his dreams. In the title track, penned by Robb, alongside Pete Good, Brandon Ratcliff, and Dave Turnbull, Robb sings:

I got your goodbye note,
Just like the ones I wrote,
When somebody got too close,
And I had to cut ‘em loose.
Damn look how things have changed,
Now you’re the one on that old two lane,
Beating me at my own game.

And in “Middle of Nowhere” Robb takes us all back to standing in a crowded bar, yet feeling so alone, explaining “Maybe it’s the isolation of the last few years, but I started paying attention to the feeling of standing still in both places – alone in the city and alone on the edge of a dock in the middle of nowhere…they can both feel completely isolating or completely freeing and for very different reasons. It’s what ‘one of those nights to meet somebody’ versus ‘one of those nights to forgot somebody’ encompasses.”

Listen to Get Away With It below.

About Teddy Robb
With over100 million worldwide streams to date, Teddy Robb’s laid-back vocals and authentic songs bring a distinctive country and midwestern style to the genre. After being named to Apple Music’s Next Up Now Program, playing to a national audience on the TODAY Show, and being written about in Billboard, Rolling Stone and Cowboys & Indians, Robb released his debut EP, with American Songwriter declaring, “there is a distinctiveness to not only his vocal approach, but his style.” Since then, he has continued releasing songs that look at traditional country stories, from a new perspective. His clever wordplay, smooth vocal, and rock n roll influence are on full display in recent releases “Whiskey Can’t” and “Cigarettes’ll Kill Ya.” Robb just announced his upcoming EP Get Away With It, out February 25.

CULTED Premieres Video for Song "Dirt Black Chalice"

Blackened industrial doom collective CULTED is now sharing the official music video for the song "Dirt Black Chalice," which is taken from their 2019 mini-album, 'Vespertina Synaxis - A Prayer For Union and Emptiness.' The band is celebrating the one year anniversary of the release of their full-length 'Nous,' which dropped on February 26, 2021. The video can be seen below.

CULTED comment: "To commemorate the one year anniversary of 'Nous,' we chose to shoot a video for 'Dirt Black Chalice' from our previously released EP, 'Vespertina Synaxis - A Prayer for Union and Emptiness.' This is our interpretation through sound of a banquet for the damned... Is this a quest for meaning through drugs and arcane ritual, or through abstinence and asceticism? Or both? Culted is all and nothing. This is everything... Celebrate with us."

Stream, download, or purchase 'Nous' HERE.

From the icy expanse of the Canadian prairies to the Nordic coast of Sweden, industrial blackened doom collective CULTED have long been innovators of creating music remotely, transcending both literal and metaphorical boundaries for over a decade. Michael Klassen and Matthew Friesen were first approached by Daniel Jansson to collaborate on an international project and come 2008, these ideas began to coalesce, with fellow Canadian Kevin Stevenson joining the cult. The band soon recorded and unveiled their first LP, Below the Thunders of the Upper Deep (2009), as well as the EP Of Death and Ritual(2010.)

In 2013, sophomore full-length Oblique to All Paths was released upon being written, recorded, and produced in various closets, basements, dens, and domiciles. After forming a union with Season of Mist, CULTED continued their down-tempo exploration of blackened and industrial soundscapes with 2019’s mini-album, Vespertina Synaxis; A Prayer for Union and Emptiness, which was inspired by the isolation, alienation, and damnation that dominates the rime-encrusted lands CULTED inhabit. Now, the band is ready to unleash their most devastating and personal opus yet, Nous.

Nous was born in turmoil after members of the band endured a period of extreme personal experiences, both psychological and physical. The creation process was informed by disease, death, and the resulting existential crises. Instead of predetermining the direction CULTED would take with their third full-length, the band allowed the music to speak for itself as it came together organically. Nous was a result of its creators attempting to destroy or ignore the egoic (that chatter and everything outside of pure consciousness that attempts to sabotage you of peace and rob you of the moment) and instead, opening themselves up to the unidentifiable and nameless muse of sound.

CULTED further explores their relationship with doom, black metal, and industrial on yet another experimental effort in which the band’s collective agony is translated into something both nihilistic and tangible through dissonant soundscapes. Each song is a nightmare in the abyss, dragging the listener through caverns of inexplicable darkness and suffering.

Exemplifying the themes, meditations, and diatribes of the human condition, Nous, which roughly translates to “common sense” or “practical intelligence,” explores both the religious and conspiratorial processes of the mind within the framework of critical thought. According to biblical scripture, Satan convinced Eve that the most powerful of conspirators - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - were secretly trying to keep the first humans shrouded in a veil of ignorance, preventing them from becoming “like God” and “knowing good and evil.” Eve became the first in a long line, from Gnostics to flat-earthers, to believe powerful forces were withholding secret information. Nous attempts to know God or the inner essence or principles of created things by means of direct perception. Nous must be carefully distinguished from reason as it does not formulate abstract concepts or argue them using deductive reasoning, but rather, it understands divine truth by means of immediate experience. Thelema of the gods.

To further solidify these introspective concepts, the cover art is an interpretation of the Temptation of St. Anthony who was one of the first monks to retire to the desert to devote himself to fasting and prayer, which is an often-repeated subject in the history of art and literature, especially concerning the supernatural temptation reportedly faced by Saint Anthony during his sojourn in the Egyptian desert. The art encapsulates both the music and lyrical concept, visually.

CULTED is now inviting you to open your mind, abandon your religion, and to join the cult on this existential and devastating journey.
