ABIOTIC Announce 10 Year Anniversary Re-release of Debut EP - 'A Universal Plague: Mutation' on Vinyl & Digital

American Deathcore five-piece ABIOTIC are excited to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of their debut studio record, 2011's self-released 'A Universal Plague'. Fresh off the release of their third studio album, 'Ikigai', Abiotic is releasing 'A Universal Plague: Mutation', their second offering on their new label The Artisan Era. The updated re-release features a new single, "Mutation", as well as a re-recorded version of the band's seminal single, "Vermosapien".

Speaking on revisiting their debut record, the band says:

"We're so grateful to get to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our debut EP with the re-release of A Universal Plague: Mutation. Fans have been asking us to release the EP digitally and on vinyl for what feels like forever and we're so pumped to be working with The Artisan Era to get this out to everyone with some bonus tracks for the fans. We decided to re-record the song that started it all for us, Vermosapien, with our new lineup and make some creative tweaks, including using 8 strings, to give the song new life while keeping true to our original sound."

The members of Abiotic go on to share:

"The idea was to show the mutation we've made as a band, hence the name of the EP. We also added a brand new song (Mutation), featuring our former vocalists Dickie Allen (Infant Annihilator) and Ray Jimenez (Acaedia), which is easily the heaviest song we've ever written. I think fans are going to lose their minds to this song, hearing the blend of voices that have been part of the band's 10-year span of plaguing the extreme metal scene. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the band over the last decade. We are only able to do what we love to do because of you. Cheers!"

A Universal Plague: Mutation is out THIS FRIDAY (December 3rd, 2021) via The Artisan Era. PRE-ORDER HERE: https://ffm.to/abiotic

OBSIDIOUS Premieres Official Video for New Song, "Sense of Lust"

Modern progressive metal band OBSIDIOUS is now releasing a brand new single called ‘"Sense of Lust." The track is accompanied by a new music video, which was created by Guilherme Henriques. The song and video can be found below.

The track is taken from the band’s upcoming debut album, which will be released in 2022 via Season of Mist. Stay tuned for more info!

OBSIDIOUS vocalist Javi Perera comments on the video: "The theme is about a dominant with his submissive in a BDSM relationship and the acts they perform during their intercourse. It reflects desire, lust and perversion, but also shows the aftercare, as each knows that the other is enjoying their role, which blurs the line as to who is the mastermind planning and initiating this encounter."

Recently, Season of Mist announced the signing of OBSIDIOUS which was accompanied by the band’s first single ‘Iconic’.

In April 2020 guitarist Rafael Trujillo, bassist Linus Klausenitzer and drummer Sebastian Lanser decided to move on from their former band OBSCURA to continue their musical path with the completely new band OBSIDIOUS. Free from former boundaries, OBSIDIOUS merge extreme metal with other genres of music into a unique style that people will somehow find familiar, but haven‘t heard yet. Together with their singer Javi Perera they set out to create a musical evolution: With a fresh name, reaching for new fan groups utilizing modern marketing ideas. OBSIDIOUS’ band members have many facets and influences to build upon, using virtuosity & technique to write great songs.

Rafael Trujillo, Linus Klausenitzer and Sebastian Lanser built a strong bond after years of worldwide touring and recording together with OBSCURA. With their last record “Diluvium”, that was primarily composed by the trio, the band celebrated their biggest success to date. Formerly unseen chart positions alongside massive praise by prominent media outlets & magazines document the success of this team. OBSIDIOUS aims to expand the existing fan base that they’ve gained: All (ex-)formations of the Obsidious members were defined through their musical characters.

The four band members that are based in Europe are known for their high musicianship and virtuosity. Their advanced technical level is an essential and unique part of their compositions. Guitarist Rafael Trujillo has a multicultural background and studied music in different countries all around the globe. Linus Klausenitzer is one of the busiest session bassists in the scene and renowned for his 7-string fretless bass sound. Strong drum independence skills and stylistic diversity make Sebastian Lanser one of the most influential drummers of the new generation. The web community shares the Ex-Obscura members’ excitement about singer Javi Perera being celebrated for his diverse and charismatic vocal skills.

OBSIDIOUS' music consists of modern riffs, strong decisive energetic melodies, virtuosity and epic unison lines. They love music that’s heavy, catchy, fast, and wild. The brand new album is currently being recorded and will be released via Season of Mist early 2022.

DALBY Drops New Music Video for Single "BLANKET" Produced by Tricky Stewart

Stream Dalby Here:

https://independent.ffm.to/blanket

EFFING HUMAN RECORDS Presents DALBY and her new video (directed by Video Rahiem) for her latest single "BLANKET" produced by legendary super producer Tricky Stewart.

Dalby’s latest single, "Blanket" is a tune that checks all boxes, mid-tempo, catchy, you can blast and sing along.

“I'm really excited about this song because it really captures the sound that I want moving forward. When I was writing this song last year, I really wanted to write about the comfort that a person can provide, whether that’s a romantic relationship or just someone in life that shelters you from every storm. ‘Blanket’ was kind of an embodiment of that since a blanket is basically part of shelter and warmth, which are two basic necessities of human kind. Tricky Stewart did an incredible job and I hope everyone loves it as much as we do" says Dalby.

The talented songwriter, singer, artist, and activist Dalby Biehl is no average 15-year-old. This highly gifted teenager has found her own little niche in composing music and lyrics that are relatable to both your youngest sibling and your favorite grandparent. Dalby speaks to her fans on many levels. Her creativity is inspiring, her vocabulary is impressive and her commitment to being herself makes her music a very ‘unique’ breath of fresh air.

Born in Newport Beach, California with stops in Pennsylvania and New Jersey along the way, Dalby now resides in Atlanta. She’s learned to adapt and has translated her journey into melody and lyric. Atlanta seems to be a great resting spot for this young artist as she accredits it’s music scene, liveliness and culture as the cultivator for the exposure, new connections and growth she’s experienced over the past few years.

“I really don’t like labeling myself to any genre, because I hate feeling like there’s no room for me to expand or grow…hopefully, if you like one of my songs, you like one of my songs, and it shouldn’t be a matter of genre.”

Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift are just a few of the artist that Dalby idolizes. She is passionate about the work she does and irrefutably committed to her craft, the teenage prodigy makes it her goal to connect to people through her music. “If its standing up for social justice, connecting to someone in a dark place, or just giving someone a song to scream in the car.” Speaking her truth and standing up for others is in her blood. Her aunt, Amy Biehl, was a huge anti-Apartheid activist who was murdered in South Africa in 1993. Dalby has combined these aspects of her life and rolled them into one.

“I let my emotions out through my writing. As an activist, I also like to speak my thoughts, but it’s easier for me to sing about it.”

A songwriter and performer at heart with aspirations of touring the world (spending an exceptionally long time in the UK), Dalby’s first professional project was an independently produced album at the age of 12. In the past 3 years she has written hundreds of songs and is merely scratching the surface with her latest project; "BLANKET," with legendary producer, Tricky Stewart.

In a nutshell Dalby is a loyal, family- oriented, sports loving, authentic teenager who loves to read dystopian books, bake, and do puzzles. She’s a Bears and Steelers fan who attends Cubs games as much as she possibly can. She adores her little big brother, LOVES Christmas, has a passion for architecture and talks a whole lot of shit. Dalby tends to stress herself out striving for perfection but has learned to gracefully accept that characteristic as an attribution of being fucking human.

Dalby’s immediate and extended musical family has been a circle of support and a contributing factor to her ability to manifest her musical ambitions. But it is Dalby’s fire, discipline, and courage to be herself that fuels her artistically, trailblazing a musical path through a world with no genres. Dalby Biehl is a force that is seen and heard… a voice for her generation.

Hailing from hell, hard-hitting “Afterlife” features the vocal power of Nils Molin (Amaranthe, Dynazty), merging in perfect harmony with Melissa’s incredibly haunting delivery. Songs like “Your Enemy” and cinematic grand finale “Lullaby” leave no scope for weakness and unveil the heaviest side of AD INFINITUM to date. This grasping hymn is far from lulling you to sleep, as the eclectically versatile sonic world of AD INFINITUM immediately induces you to listen to Chapter II - Legacy again, right from the beginning!

AD INFINITUM add:

Chapter II - Legacy holds a very special place in our heart. It represents months and months of hard work of four bandmates, for a result that we are proud to call “self-produced”. For this record, we decided to work without the influence of an external producer during the songwriting process and to team up with Elias Holmlid for the beautiful and epic orchestrations and of course with Jacob Hansen who recorded [vocals], mixed, mastered and participated to the post production. A younger and heavier sound that defines AD INFINITUMlike never before.”

Nathan James releases a sexy & fierce numetal rock song "Akasha" on December 9th inspired by the movie Queen of the Damned. Justin Bieber's drummer "Stixx Taylor" plays the drums on the single.

A girl Nathan was dating at the time visited him from Florida and told him about the movie and how she couldn't believe he hadn't seen it yet. The ironic twist is that Nathan was already in the middle of writing a "vampire queen" themed song that he had played for her and this is what lead her to mention Queen of the Damned. Later that day, the two watched the movie and Nathan fell in love with the story. He then got the inspiration he needed to finish the song and name it "Akasha," after the queen vampire in the movie. Both the song and the music video represent elements from the movie.

"Akasha" will be receiving strong support from Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music once it is released on December 9th.

Nathan James is an independent artist who is a “Photographer Rockstar.” Nathan stands for the popular outcast with a goal to turn all life experiences good or bad into “MORE ART” through music and photography.

Hailing from the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado, Nathan James has
always been pushing out his creative energy for the world to see. Building a foundation as one of the most desired entertainment photographer behind some of the industry’s most iconic shots (Lil Wayne, Justin Bieber, Machine Gun Kelly, Avril Lavigne, Post Malone & many more.

Since his burst onto the music scene in early 2020, Nathan James has already developed into a full-blown rockstar, manifesting his creative influences into a unique musical identity. It would be an understatement to say that Nathan hit the ground running. Despite the compromising circumstances of COVID-19, Nathan James has released 10 singles and amassed millions of streams across all platforms.

Nathan James has no intention of stopping his production of “MORE ART”. Whether it’s photography, music, or any other form of art, Nathan James is a unique presence that cannot go unnoticed. In a world full of creativity and expression, Nathan James urges people everywhere to create “MORE ART”, and he’s not afraid to lead by example.

Brighton electronic dreampop artist Collect Call presents 'Chase The Light' from 'The Golden Hour' EP

"Catchy as hell... Invigorating and its melodicism is laced with sonic reverie... delicate textural synthesizers, energetic drums and rhythm interlace with a balanced sense of space and sincere introspective lyrics" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"Collect Call is a balm for our trouble times" ~ Undercurrent Magazine

"Sweet, thoughtful and quirky... wistful and nostalgic and romantic as well" ~ God is in the TV

"Serenading the ears and imagination, Collect Call makes for a rather fascinating and tantalising listen" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

Brighton-based electronic dreampop / indietronic project Collect Call presents their ultra-catchy and endearing single 'Chase The Light', the first track found on the recently-released EP 'The Golden Hour'. Fragile yet whimsical, this beautiful slice of indie pop follows up the earlier-released single 'Simple'.

Collect Call is the solo project of Brighton-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Joseph Thorpe. Creating electronic dream pop that ranges from soft and sensitive to loud and bombastic, his delicate textural synthesisers, energetic drums and rhythm interlace with a balanced sense of space and sincere introspective lyrics.

'The Golden Hour' is a romantic, nostalgic journey through sound that is about embodying the dying embers of the day and not giving up the ghost when all might seem lost. Thorpe’s unique brand of indie pop is a beacon for like-minded people, standing its ground with whimsical, lo-fi electronic beats and sincere vocals.

Recorded across a mixture of cupboards, attics and studios, Thorpe meticulously sculpted this EP at Brighton Electric Studios with the help of collaborator Kianna Blue (The Academy of Sun). TAOS bandmate Ash Babb also contributed the cover artwork for this EP.

On 'The Golden Hour', Thorpe has created a space for candid self-expression, having done so with nuanced vulnerability. Taking inspiration from the likes of Sufjan Stevens and Air, this new 4-track offering is as experimental as it is emotive.

"The recording of this EP came at a point where I was feeling very lost as a musician and writer. I had been sitting on a large collection of songs and wanted to try every conceivable avenue I could musically that didn't really have any sense of cohesion; I became depressed and questioned what direction I was going in, as well as the other two members of the group at the time departing the project for personal reasons," says Joseph Thorpe.

"When the world plummeted into lockdowns, I began tinkering with an idea that would later become 'Pretense'. I had been listening to Sufjan Stevens and Kings of Convenience at the time and felt that finishing the song helped me break out of my fugue state and I could get back into making music that I enjoyed. I then went back and whittled what originally was a 7-track EP to just 4, incorporating two old songs that I reworked and two new ideas that were all but completely recorded in one day at Brighton Electric Studios. The Golden Hour for me is a cathartic reminder of staying true to yourself, chasing the light as it fades over the hill and that sometimes less can indeed be more."

Collect Call debuted on the music scene with the single 'Rain: Stop' in June 2020, following up with 'Pretense' in October of that year. Utilising his expansive, eclectic musical knowledge and experience, Thorpe creates cathartic soundscapes involving lucid pianos and enchanting vocals that are the perfect companion in times of loneliness.

'The Golden Hour' is out now, available digitally across online stores and streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp.

SHAPE OF DESPAIR Reveals New Album, Premieres First Single

Finnish funeral doom icons SHAPE OF DESPAIR will be releasing their brand new full-length, 'Return to the Void,' on February 25, 2022 via Season of Mist! Album artwork, tracklist, and more info can be found below! The band is now sharing the devastating first single, Reflection in Slow Time," which can be heard below.

'Return to the Void' is available for pre-orders HERE.

Pre-save the album across your favorite streaming platform HERE.

Finnish funeral doom icons SHAPE OF DESPAIR return from the wintry Nordic gloom on their new album, Return to the Void. Between the success of the majestically downtrodden Monotony Fields (2015) and today, the members of SHAPE OF DESPAIR have been composing (glacially) and otherwise ensconced writing/performing with their other projects like FINNTROLL, IMPALED NAZARENE, THROES OF DAWN, and COUNTING HOURS. The Finns have never been or found the need to be prolific, however. The race into the cold darkness is a contemplatively unhurried task. Return to the Void is musically and thematically that same journey, one of perpetual solitude and aching hopelessness, driven straight into the heart of frigid twilight. As ever, this is cheerless music for sunless days.

“Not long after Monotony Fields, I started composing for Return to the Void,” says guitarist/founding member Jarno Salomaa. “At first, the title song sounded too primitive. I thought I would make a solo album out of it, but after a while, the song reminded me of older RAVEN material. Naturally and eventually, it started to feel like a SHAPE OF DESPAIR song."

SHAPE OF DESPAIR was formed out of the ashes of RAVEN in Helsinki in 1998. Actually, the transformation into the present-day moniker wasn’t as violent as it sounds. A simple name change—initiated by Salomaa—coincided with the Finns' developing predilection for protracted if icy metal. SHAPE OF DESPAIR’s grand debut, Shades of… (2000), was proof that the fledgling sextet's stately doom was already ascendant. From there, the Helsinkians morphed in membership but continued their funereal march into legend with Angels of Distress (2001) and Illusion’s Play (2004) before hibernating for almost a decade. While Return to the Void is the natural follow-up to Monotony Fields and represents over six years of songwriting development, the main narrative (and indeed the timely return of drummer Samu Ruotsalainen) is rooted in the past.

“Return to the Void isn’t the follow-up to Monotony Fields in the traditional sense,” Salomaa says. “As stated, the songwriting goes way back to the first music we put together for RAVEN. I will say my approach has changed after all these years of making music. I found new and different ways to shape the arrangements and my compositions. What matters most, I think, is that it still has the SHAPE OF DESPAIR atmosphere.”

Return to the Void is no doubt SHAPE OF DESPAIR. From the void-gaze of “Dissolution” and gelid beauty of “Reflection in Slow Time” to the collapsing cathedral in “Forfeit” and the void-fall that is the stunning title track, the Finns have outdone themselves, overcoming the heights of previous lighthouse tracks “Woundheir,” “Angels of Distress," and "Sleep Mirrored" with surprising ease. Funeral doom is often narrow in scope, but Return to the Void defiantly opposes that with its massively scaled and forlornly inspired valleys and angelic (powered by Natalie Koskinen’s empyrean vocals) peaks. Coupled with Henri Koivula’s caliginous lyrics, SHAPE OF DESPAIR provides a masterclass display of a genre expansive and filmic.

“Return to the Void is a title we thought would best describe the album,” says Koivula. “It is a return for us in many ways. We were heading [musically] towards early SHAPE OF DESPAIR. Plus, Samu’s back in the band. Overall, my lyrics have a red line through them—a sense of solitude and depression. The state where you find that everything has lost its meaning. There is no past or future, only this one moment drifting near the firmament.”

The Return to the Void project started in 2020 and continued through May 2021. Production duties were wrested from the previous producer Max Kostermaa and in-sourced to the band directly. Ruotsalainen, Salomaa, Koivula, and Miika Niemelä engineered, respectively, at Beat Domination Studios, D-Studios, and Doom Cave Studios. The group also looked inside their ranks for mixing, handing the job off to [drummer] Ruotsalainen (FINNTROLL, METSATÖLL). The mastering was given to award-winning ace Svante Forsbäck (VOLBEAT, RAMMSTEIN) at Chartmakers West in Espoo. If the previous SHAPE OF DESPAIR productions were huge, Return to the Void is unfathomably massive. One listen to “Solitary Downfall” and the album’s crushing egress "The Inner Desolation," and it’s readily apparent that SHAPE OF DESPAIRhave crafted a temple of sound to ruminate the cruelty of existence.

“We recorded the album on our own, which allowed us the freedom to record whenever and however long we wanted,” says Salomaa. ”Everything was done in late winter, with the mixing taking place between February and March of 2021. We had a couple of weekends to mix with Samu, but most of it was done without us. The mastering was then finalized in May 2021. [The sound is] mainly raw but still heavy. The main focus was to keep our sound world intact. I think this album sounds the most accurate we’ve ever wanted our albums to sound.”

SHAPE OF DESPAIR’s next steps are to release Return to the Void via Season of Mist. The striking cover art via long-time design partner and silent member Mariusz Krystew (David Galas, Thor’s Hammer) is yet again a reminder that the Finns are as visually engaging as they are compositionally and lyrically. That they mixed old and new for Return to the Void is proof that there’s purpose and meaning to Salomaa’s ill-lit aesthetic. Once the album is released and protocols pending, Shape of Despair hope to hit the road where they’ll pontificate their wintry despondency from the stage to audiences near and far.

New Album, A Dream Of Wilderness, out Now, 2021 via Napalm Records

Pre-Order HERE

As Toulouse-based symphonic melodic death metal act AEPHANEMER readies the release of their forthcoming and thunderous full-length studio album, A Dream Of Wilderness, this Friday, November 19 via Napalm Records, the band unleashes a third and final single!

Recorded in both English and as a French bonus version, "Le Radeau de La Méduse" is a heavy power and razor-sharp death metal anthem you can’t help but headbang to as fast and heavy as you can.

"This song is named after the famous French painting, and it tells the story of the same French historical event," says guitarist Martin Hamiche. "For this reason, we decided to release a version of the song with French lyrics as a bonus. We hope you'll enjoy both versions!"

Escape into another dimension of blast beasts and furious riffs, and watch the new AEPHANEMER lyric video for the English version of "Le Radeau de La Méduse"!

Watch the lyric video for "Le Radeau de La Méduse" below.

The lyric video for the album bonus track in French is available via the band’s Youtube channel at THIS LOCATION!

AEPHANEMER doesn’t fear boundaries. Their upcoming, third album delivers a wide metal range that represents a dark and gloomier yet no less powerful side of the band, taking you on an epic ride through otherworldly realms of blast beats, orchestral grandeur and furious riffage. Especially in this day and age of staying "true" and limited within a sound and scene, A Dream Of Wilderness is a welcome diversion and a brave record artfully blending brutally fast symphonic death and raw melodic metal into a multi-faceted epic!

Starting out as an unbelievably successful DIY ride that suddenly turned towards international acclaim, the indisputable AEPHANEMER belong to one of the most exciting melodic death metal sensations of the modern age. Fast-paced metal fronted by the guttural growls and fierce screams of extraordinary vocalist Marion Bascoul meet flickering twin leads, elements of Scandinavian death metal, Slavic traditional music and epic synths. If their latest, much-acclaimed Prokopton was a noteworthy, impressive sophomore album from one of Europe’s best up and coming melodic death metal bands yet, A Dream Of Wilderness sees the French four-piece doubling down on its songwriting skills: Faster, tighter and heavier, AEPHANEMER’s upcoming album unleashes an anthemic adventure of brutally fast riffage and epic melodies!

Symphonic Metal powerhouse TEMPERANCE releases new captivating album title track “Diamanti”

New Album, Diamanti, Out Now via Napalm Records

Pre-Order NOW!

After releasing “Pure Life Unfolds” & “Breaking The Rules Of Metal” the symphonic metal powerhouse TEMPERANCE reveals their upcoming album’s title track “Diamanti”. With the third single, the band enters the final round before the eponymous album arrives.

On “Diamanti”, TEMPERANCE shows off their versatile skill set with a mix of heavy guitar riffs, orchestral strings, and the vocal harmonies of its authentic Italian chorus. As a special highlight and to celebrate their new album, the band will also release “Diamanti” in four (!) alternative versions. The track will come with a chorus in different languages (German, English, Spanish and French) and will be available on all streaming and download platforms. TEMPERANCE delights the fans with their perfect mixture melodic and symphonic soundscapes. “Diamanti” is yet just another example of the band's ability to create an epic tale for their listeners, accompanied by powerful and energetic vocals.

Michele Guaitoli (vocals, piano) on the new single:

“We’ve been taught that diamonds are the purest gems in this world. They're so pure that they can’t be bent or broken. They’re almost indestructible. They're valuable and also intangible: they inspire hope.

The diamonds that rain throughout this beautiful song signify hopes for a better world, hopes for our dreams to come true, hopes for peace and joy. Since hopes are timeless and have no borders, we wanted to make this song flow through many languages. We wanted to use the language of music, which I represent in the video. The language of nature, which Marco represents in the video. The language of arts and beauty, which Alessia represents in the video. And we wanted everyone to understand the meaning of this song, even those who cannot listen to it but can use their eyes to read the message. Hopes are forever, hopes are for everyone.”

Check out the music video for “Diamanti” below.

Diamanti was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Epica, Amaranthe), with the cover artwork once again created by Yann Souetre (Ayreon).

Marco Pastorino (vocals, guitar) on the new album:

“With Diamanti, we’ve managed to combine our best qualities and select the best TEMPERANCE songs so far. It's not our heaviest album, it's not our fastest work, but surely it's our favourite one so far!

We weren't necessarily supposed to record a new album only one year after Viridian, but luckily we made it! In this album you will find our trademarks: the vocal harmonies, the catchy melodies, but also epic stuff, strong arrangements, and long tracks - I am very proud of Diamanti and I am convinced we have written a bombastic album!”

American death metal masters Abysmal Dawn are back! After a six-year gap, the Los Angeles-based outfit and Season of Mist hereby present Phylogenesis. Not that Abysmal Dawn have laid low since the release of 2014’s lauded Obsolescence full-length. Far from it. They toured North America four times and hit Europe and South America for the first time. Meanwhile, founding member Charles Elliott opened his studio, Tastemaker Audio, to accelerate Abysmal Dawn's own recording needs, as well to act as a bridge to other bands in need of a knowledgeable and relatable audio technician. But the road to Phylogenesis wasn’t an easy one. Besides work-horsing it throughout the U.S., Canada, Sweden, Germany, the UK, Brazil, Chile, and beyond in support of Obsolescence, Elliott and crew managed through some of the lowest points in Abysmal Dawn’s career. Internal strife, administrative burdens, musical differences, and motivation all had their various ways with the Californians. Yet, from the darkest depths, they prevailed, heralding a new chapter in the group’s storied history. Indeed, Phylogenesis is Abysmal Dawn’s rebirth!

“There was a brief period after doing two months of touring back-to-back in the U.S. and Europe in 2015 that I almost felt like calling it quits,” Abysmal Dawn’s Charles Elliott says. "It was our first time in Europe and I just had a hard time enjoying it. The band had grown, and I was a bit tired of having to handle most of the managerial aspects of what we do. The joy had been ripped from things and people weren't getting along, and some people acted like they didn't want to be there. But we went our separate ways with some of the members and all of a sudden, the band was fun again. They went on to other things and we're probably all happier in the end. Sometimes, I feel it's a miracle this album or band even still exists. I've avoided swearing on our records in the past, but the album's opening line is actually, 'Fuck you all!' Maybe it's primitive by our past lyrical standards but it's genuine and it's the most heartfelt, ‘Fuck you, we’re still here’ I could put on a record. I’m glad we stuck it out because I think this is our proudest moment so far.”

To say Phylogenesis is an extension or continuation of Obsolescence isn’t exactly as straightforward as it should be. On one hand, all the Abysmal Dawn trademarks—technicality, brutality, and melody—remain ingrained in the songwriting fabric. On the other, the band’s fifth full-length is more cohesive, rhythmically sophisticated, and far more adventurous. Elliott calls it “a major evolution.” Certainly, the six years of constant refinement, edge smoothing, and transition adjustments have paid off. What started as jam sessions between Elliott, bassist Eliseo Garcia, and drummer James Coppolino in 2016 eventually turned into one-offs. That there was no time limit to put Phylogenesis together ended up both a blessing and a curse. Total creative freedom at very little expense is a dream scenario, something a band of Abysmal Dawn’s stature took advantage of for their magnum opus. But without a ticking clock and dollars burning, the pressure to focus was far less severe, resulting in delays and feature creep.

“It was basically James, Eliseo and me meeting up at my place, jamming on ideas, seeing what worked and tweaking them from there,” says Elliott. “With the exception of ‘Hedonistic,’ James wrote all his drum parts. Obsolescence was demoed with me programming all the drums since our drummer at the time had moved up north. It was what it was, but it was pretty frustrating at the time. Having someone to bounce ideas off of in real-time, helped in maintaining the joy and momentum of making this album. Once it was time to record bass and leads, Eliseo and Vito [Petroni; guitars] would trickle in when they had ideas. We had no real deadline and seemingly infinite time to do things. Admittedly, I think it was hard for me to focus on the lyrics, not only because of things in my personal life but because I was focused on getting the guys in to complete their parts so I could focus.”

Finish Phylogenesis they did, in fact. Under significant duress, Abysmal Dawn had overcome their roadblocks. The results of the group’s undulating professional and personal schedules aren’t to be trifled with, however. Opening track “Mundane Existence” is a firestorm of labyrinthine yet savage riffs, enraged vocals, and machine-gun drumming. It’s death metal personified, enlightened, and perfected. Elsewhere, tracks such as “The Path of the Totalitarian,” “A Speck in the Fabric of Eternity,” and “Soul-Sick Nation” (feat. Fredrik Folkare of Unleashed, Firespawn, et al.) pose real threats to the status quo. In all three, Elliott’s passion for and dominance of death metal’s tenets are tangible. But there’s more to Abysmal Dawn on Phylogenesis than customary ritual. From the ruthless groove of “Hedonistic” and the staccato stabs of “Coerced Evolution” to the late album gem “The Lament Configuration” and the blistering cover of Death classic “Flattening of Emotion,” the songs are designed to slay in ways we’re just beginning to understand.

“We’re a pretty brutal death metal band, but what I feel like sets us apart is that no matter what we do there’s always some underlying sense of melody and hooks,” Elliott says. “There are lots of bands that are ridiculously brutal. There are lots of bands that are over-the-top technically or are blatantly melodic. We combine all that but we try to write something that sticks with you over time; that you'll keep coming back to, and that works well in the live environment. We love all types of music, whether it's fusion or industrial music, and it shines through here and there. But in the end, though, we're a pure death metal band at heart trying to retain that old-school feel with an updated take for a new generation.”

Conceptually, Phylogenesis deals with the breakdown of social constructs humans have built over time. The album title is defined by the evolution of (or diversification) a species. So, Phylogenesis is an ironic take on Elliott’s observations, particularly how social media has accelerated and exacerbated the de-evolution of humanity’s interactive abilities. The cover art, again by Swedish artist Pär Olofsson, isn’t directly correlated to the lyrical narrative, but it does continue where Obsolescence left off. The Olofsson cover art has envisioned what it’s like on the inside of the Obsolescence tower, and that it’s humans that are being fed back to humans. The cover art continuity is akin to Richard Fleischer’s famed Soylent Green film but ripped through Elliott’s demented death metal lens.

“I think the lyrics deal a lot with things we encounter in our modern society and the effect it has on the individual,” says Elliott. “The dehumanization effect and divisiveness caused by bickering on social media (‘The Path of the Totalitarian’), the decay of legitimate journalism (‘True to the Blind’), struggling to find purpose in the pursuit of happiness (‘Hedonistic’), wishing something was greater than yourself (‘Mundane Existence’), the mental illness epidemic (‘Soul-Sick Nation’), embracing pain over numbness to feel alive (‘The Lament Configuration’), having our consciousnesses uploaded to a grid in order to make life sustainable on Earth (‘Coerced Evolution’), and the common theme throughout the band of wishing life on Earth would just start over (‘A Speck in the Fabric of Eternity’). I had started off wanting it to be a concept record but later scrapped that idea because I didn't like how it was going. In the end though, it just naturally all tied together in some way. Even the Death cover seemed to fit lyrically in hindsight. ‘Coerced Evolution’ is really the only song that in the sci-fi vein this time around. As for Pär, yes, he did the cover art once again. We love working with him and we’ve been creating great covers with him since 2006.”

Abysmal Dawn recorded Phylogenesis over a multi-year timeframe. In fact, Coppolino’s drums were tracked as far back as 2017 with long-time collaborator John Haddad at Trench Studios. The rhythm guitars and vocals, as produced by Mike Bear and Elliott, were also done at Tastemaker Audio the same year. So, some of Phylogenesis goes back, but the parts are no less lethal. Slowly but surely, the group’s newest and greatest materialized, with Elliott finishing the lead guitars, bass, additional vocals, re-amping, and mixing sessions in 2019, again at Tastemaker Audio. Abysmal Dawn then packaged up their fifth for mastering ace Tony Lindgren (Rotting Christ) to handle at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden. Contemporary yet absolutely remorseless, Abysmal Dawn’s Phylogenesis is death metal for a new age.

“We took our time and went to few studios this time around, so it’s a bit of a laundry list,” Elliott says. “John Haddad engineered the drums at Trench Studios. John has been involved with all our records in some form since From Ashes. Mike Bear helped track and produce the vast majority of my vocals and rhythm guitars out of my studio. Mike produced both Leveling the Plane of Existence (2010) and Obsolescence. I tracked and produced all the leads, bass parts, and other odds and ends and mixed the album as well. Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios mastered the record in the end.”

As for Abysmal Dawn’s next steps, the quartet await the release of Phylogenesis. With past support coming from the Village Voice, Decibel, PopMatters, and Pandora, as well as the group's rabidly-devoted fanbase, the future of death metal is in good hands.

Alt Pop/Rock Artist JARED ANTHONY Releases New Single "Over My Head" via UnitedMasters + Official Music Video

Windsor's Alt Pop/Rock artist JARED ANTHONY released his new single "Over My Head" via UnitedMasters along with the official music video.

"Over My Head" features Evan Stanley (son of Paul Stanley) on lead guitar, Matt Noveskey (Blue October) on bass and Will Knaak (Blue October) is on rhythm guitar.

Jared Anthony is an edgy, melodic rapper/singer/songwriter/producer from Ontario, Canada. His musical style blends many influences of pop, rock, and alternative, with a heavy melodic hip hop vibe, but with an eclectic and creative new kind of sound that makes Jared Anthony stand out.

“This blending of genres and hybrid sound only seems to be increasing in popularity with music fans and Jared Anthony is at the forefront of this current hybrid nature in popular music,” says manager John Gomez.

Jared Anthony’s new single “Over My Head” features guest musicians from platinum-selling alternative rock band Blue October and Evan Stanleyson of KISS legend Paul Stanley. Additionally, Jared Anthony’s song "Mayday" was a featured track last year in the best-selling basketball series video game, NBA 2k. His music has garnered over 14 million streams on Spotify, nearly 200k monthly listeners, and his fan base continues to grow exponentially.

“Over My Head" marks the first official release via a new partnership with music industry executive Steve Stoute’s music platform, UnitedMasters. Stoute, who is the founder and CEO of UnitedMasters and Translation, recently closed a $50M Series C at a $550M valuation to further support and empower the artists they work with to find commercial success in the creator economy. UnitedMasters, meanwhile, has helped launch the careers of artists like platinum-selling rapper NLE Choppa, plus Lil TeccaTobe NwigweLil XXEL and others.

“I'm pumped about this partnership and new musical vibe that showcases a more alternative edgy sound than my previous releases,” says Jared Anthony.

“This track serves as the first taste of what’s to come and now that the pandemic is almost behind us, I can't wait to finally start playing live shows soon,” adds Jared Anthony.

“UnitedMasters has an amazing team of like-minded creatives who sincerely want to see their artists succeed in the music industry and grow into global acts,” said Gomez. “Jared's music is lit and he's setting the bar in a unique niche. His songs have clearly connected with fans, the production is super clean, and his melodies carry emotion that breaks the rap mold.”

Along with veteran artist manager John GomezJared Anthony is co-managed by famed MTV VJ personality Matt Pinfield and represented by United Talent Agency. UTA is one of the world’s leading global talent, sports, and entertainment companies. New tour dates are slated to commence for Jared Anthony early 2022. Dates will be announced soon.

Darkwave trio VONAMOR presents 'Take Your Heart', announces debut LP (out in early 2022)

VONAMOR is music and movement. VONAMOR is real and virtual.
VONAMOR is the end and the beginning. VONAMOR is from love, of love, for love.

"A captivating dark track set to a motorik backbeat with an addictive necromantic mood... like a slow-drip of anxiety and shady mystic atmosphere that gradually builds in intensity, culminating in a fever-filled chilling chorus and a haunting wave of chanting" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"Music that is somehow suspended between imagery and literature" ~ Music. It

"A dark delicious slice of darkwave excellence, starting from cold deadpan chill and gradually building with fired-up intensity in the same way as the best of Siouxsie and The Banshees" ~ Skylight Webzine

This is a quick-paced track, recalling the best dark pop of the '80s, with a tandem of male and female voices, confronting each other without reaching a mutual understanding, the addictive rhythm all the while inciting dance and movement.

On 'Take Your Heart', the incongruities of language are a humorous counterpart to an imperfect world, made up of discord, virtual realities, and fatal detachment from spontaneity and lightness. The first female voice is answered by the addressed male voice, although he ultimately answers from “the undiscovered country from whose bourn no traveller returns”.

A game of Dionysian invocations, of accusations and misunderstandings - all of it held together by a deep love that overcomes death. 'Take Your Heart' is an invocation to life, to love, to irony, to spontaneity in line with the poetry of VONAMOR’s music.

VONAMOR is made up of sisters Giulia Bottaro (voice, bass, metal flute) and Francesca Bottaro (drum station, sequencer, sax, clarinet) and vocalist Luca Guidobaldi, with Francesco Bassoli (guitars and loops) and Martino Cappelli (guitars, mandolin, bouzouki, oud, loops) joining the trio for live performances.

Theirs is a story of unexpected timbres, resonating at the very intersection between darkwave and electro music. The band's roots date back to 2016 Rome, when their focus was to communicate images, authoring various scores for short films. This morphed into the trio as we know it today with its contemporary taste and allure, literary echoes, imperious art-pop and enigmatic aesthetics.

“VONAMOR is an escape plan, our treasure island, a thick and savage jungle that gives you the chance to let your prayers and whispers reverberate like a church. We used the music in this album to walk paths that we hadn’t known before, to connect Rome to Paris to Berlin to Beijing, to mix techno music with folk, to let our voices and bodies mingle and dance to an incredibly weird yet familiar beat, and finally to search for a boom of love and light into the dark of our everyday’s life: yes, VONAMOR is a boom!" says Luca Guidobaldi.

In the past year, the band has released two singles, which are also featured on this album - 'Never Betray Us' and 'Fast-Forward Girl', accompanied by a clip directed by Diana Arbib and cinematography by Alessandro Rosa and featuring the dance performance 'Moto Perpetuo' by Anna Basti.

“Through our darkwave music and words, we search for the question, the ambiguity, the multiform influence of a variety of demons. We feel the urgency of questioning ourselves, our fellow human beings and the reality around us," says Giulia Bottaro.

Francesca Bottaro adds, "With VONAMOR, we turned such a feeling into a sound of female and male voices, wrapping bass-lines and electronic beats, woodwind instruments chasing and caressing you, till we make you dance and move and love with us.”

As of November 25, 'Take Your Heart' is available across online stores and streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer, Spotify and elsewhere. The full-length album will be released, both digitally and on CD, in February 2022. It can be pre-ordered directly from Time To Kill Records.

Goth-pop duo, THE HAXANS - Ash Costello (New Years Day) and Matt Montgomery (Rob Zombie) - have released an official music video for their spooktacular cover of the David Bowie classic "Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)" today. Shot during their residency at the legendary SoCal Halloween attraction, Knott's Scary Farm, the track sees a rare lead vocal from Matt on a song by THE HAXANS. Watch the video below.

Speaking on their new track and music video, guitarist and vocalist, Matt Montgomery shares

"We picked our covers for our Knott's this year from Halloween playlists we've created over the years. One song that has been a staple ever since I could make playlists, was this Bowie song. The original version has such a unique vibe, that it really took some years to figure out how to bring our own thing to it. It's surely a fun one for me to sing on a little more than I do most of our other tunes. It's certainly become a song that defines us and our audience and gets a party started!"

ABOUT THE HAXANS

A Goth-pop duo, decked out in creep kitsch high fashion, and named after a silent film from the twenties about a 15th-century German guide to hunting witches, THE HAXANS sound exactly like everything those images conjure. It’s the psycho-saccharine music of a fiendish creep’s fever dream… Classic art-house cinema, b-movie horror, spooky decadence, vintage American myth, and black roses dripping with blood are all tossed in THE HAXANS cauldron.

THE HAXANS are Ashley Costello, subcultural style icon and leader of Warped Tour screamo stars New Years Day, and Matt Montgomery, better known by his aliases Piggy D. and Count D., bassist for over a decade with multiplatinum shock rocker Rob Zombie, guitarist with horror punks Wednesday 13, and sometimes visual and musical collaborator with rock icon Alice Cooper.

THE HAXANS isn’t a side project. It’s the irrepressible, irresistible, and inevitable exorcism of the party centric Halloween costume shop kicking around inside the brains and bodies of the group’s two coconspirators.

Those who spell magic with a “k” and vampire with a “y,” who invoke ancient spirits in pursuit of a superstitiously serendipitous good time – all denizens of darkness will find sanctuary in the warm boudoir-like atmosphere of THE HAXANS, both on record and on the stage.

Synthpop legacy act SPRAY releases 'Ambiguous Poems About Death' LP via Analogue Trash

"'Fantastically catchy and grooving witty club anthem... this music has sprung from two brilliant minds" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"The perfect blend of wit and wisdom, back street philosophies and lyrical gems... bubbling synth-pop groover running on digital waves and smooth electronic ebbs and flows" ~ The Swindonian

"What could be the long-lost track from Trainspotting or Human Traffic, pulsates with a youthful energy, likened to the chemical generation of the late 90s" ~ The Manc Review

"Sense of humour along with a talent for sharp, polished electronic pop. While the competition is quite fierce, Spray may have delivered one of the year’s finest albums" ~ The Electricity Club

"This is leftfield indie disco synthpop – with a big stick!" ~ RGM Magazine

"Smart, quirky and downright memorable" ~ The Spill Magazine

British synth-based dance-pop electro duo Spray present their new album 'Ambiguous Poems About Death', released via Manchester's Analogue Trash label on November 26, having previewed three tracks from this clever and catchy 12-track collection - 'Hammered In An Airport', 'Félicette (Space Cat)'and 'Blurred In The Background'.

Spray is music-addict siblings Jenny McLaren (vocals, guitars) and Ricardo Autobahn (synths), who have managed to build an enviable following of devotees to Spray's brand of danceable and subversive indie disco pop since their 2002 debut ‘Living In Neon’ LP. They are also responsible for a smash cover of Lisa Lougheed’s 'Run With Us' (also 'The Raccoons' theme song). Their unique brand of oblique synth-pop is catchy as hell, both lyrically and musically, bringing them mainstream pop success in an alternate universe.

Spray's musical DNA traces back to 90s band The Cuban Boys, who recorded one of the best Peel Sessions ever and went head-to-head with Sir Cliff Richard in a Christmas Chart Battle. Their hit single 'Cognoscenti Vs Intelligentsia' (a.k.a. The Hamster Dance Song) sold a million copies, reached number 4 in the UK single charts, landed them on Top of the Pops and, in the words of John Peel, was “the most requested song I’ve had since God Save The Queen”. They topped the John Peel Festive 50 Charts twice.

Spray was the secret weapon behind the UK’s 2006 Eurovision hit 'Teenage Life', written and produced with Daz Sampson, with their treated vocals used on the track. Ricardo Autobahn and Sampson's dance version of 'Rhinestone Cowboy' (as Rikki and Daz) with the legendary Glen Campbell went Top-10. More recently Spray recorded music with anarchic BBC star Hacker T. Dog and Ricardo also plays keyboards with Welsh punk pop icons Helen Love.

Spray's new long-player is their second release with Analogue Trash, following 2019's 'Failure Is Inevitable'. Jenny and Ricardo have used the intervening time wisely; writing, terrorising social media, working with puppets, and a number of live shows, including August’s first post lockdown live affair in Liverpool.

“In early 2020, we bought a Behringer TD-3, one of the company's excellent Roland TB-303 knockoffs. We had an idea of putting out a quick acid house-style album in the summer, something short, spiky and electropunk. This did not come to fruition as, like many, Spray found themselves locked down in separate locations, in their case on either side of Lancashire," says Ricardo Autobahn.

"This album evolved into something a lot more elaborate as the pandemic went on. We tried not to write songs *about* the global situation because we figured everybody would be doing that, but the outside world couldn't help seeping in."

Undeterred by distance, recording and production duties were split between Spray Studio 1 (decaying, seen better days) and Spray Studio 2 (shiny, newly refurbished, sweet smelling) and the album took shape with the TD-3 employed in all the songs, somewhere.

Packed full of acerbic wit with tongue firmly in cheek when needed for maximum effect, 'Ambiguous Poems About Death' will delight fans new and old from the first listen. The long-player will be released on November 26 digitally and on CD, the latter format featuring separate blue cover artwork). It can be ordered, everywhere online including Bandcamp, at http://snd.click/poems.

Swedish horror outfit OPERA DIABOLICUS are now streaming their entire upcoming full length 'Death on a Pale Horse' which is released upon the masses today November 26. Check out the stream via the official Season of Mist YouTube channel below.

OPERA DIABOLICUS comment: "Lo and behold, our awaited sophomore album is finally ready to be unveiled. Please sit down and enjoy the next 59 minutes and 13 seconds as we raise the curtain for the full streaming of the new album"

Listen everybody, bring out OPERA DIABOLICUS! The Swedish combo have created the perfect horror musical with a little help from their friends Mats Levén (Candlemass, Therion, Skyblood), Snowy Shaw (King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Therion, Notre Dame), Andy La Rocque (King Diamond) and Michael Denner (King Diamond, Mercyful Fate)! With ‘Death on a Pale Horse’, the Swedes bring you an epic tale of witchcraft, the black death and revenge!

Established by the two antagonists David Grimore and Adrian de Crow in Gothenburg in the mid-2000s, Swedish horror entity OPERA DIABOLICUSseeks to scourge the earth with their music, mischief, and schemes!

Through burning hatred and mutual dislike to one another and with one prior album released under their belt (entitled †1614, released 2012), they’ve now conjured their sophomore offspring with music that could be described as epic horror metal, and thus would greatly appeal to fans of acts like KING DIAMOND, CANDLEMASS, MERCYFUL FATE and so forth.

With a little help from their friends, whom brilliantly have assisted with their tools of their trade, plus the eminent Jens Bogren’s (OPETH, SEPULTURA, ROTTING CHRIST, DIMMU BORGIR) mixing and mastering skill, the result speaks for itself.
