CAGE FIGHT Releases New Single "Oxygen" + New Video

UK metal band, CAGE FIGHT – fronted by vocal powerhouse Rachel Aspe – have released a new single/video, "Oxygen."

Rachel Aspe explains,

“When your worries occupy all the space in your head, you’re navigating

through fog; every task, every move, feels like a challenge. 'Oxygen' is about a fight against time, when everything becomes overwhelming and suffocating.”

About the video, Aspe adds:

“The mask on the album cover is the radiotherapy mask my grandmother wore every day for her cancer treatment. It was moulded to her, and I'm now wearing it as she lives through me. The process was painful and exhausting. This is a symbol of strength, perseverance, and healing. It represents a cage you fight in, until you shed your skin

and are reborn. The mask also has specific meanings for each song on the album.

"In 'Oxygen', we wanted to portray the feelings of fear, oppression, and anxiety. To be locked in this cage, pushed down by its weight. The mask here is our own mind, and overwhelming thoughts, while seeing time passing by and being powerless.”

CAGE FIGHT will release their second studio album, ‘Exuvia,’ on May 1st via Spinefarm.  

Recorded by Sam Bloor at Lower Lane Studios and mixed by Jim Pinder (Sleep Token, Malevolence), ‘Exuvia’ retains the raw, old school hardcore heart of CAGE FIGHT – vibrating with meaty grooves, pummelling rhythms, plus a wave of furious anger that feels like a punch to the gut. At the same time, it also explores more multi-layered terrains, atmospheres, and melodies, making CAGE FIGHT sound bigger, tighter, and more epic than ever before.

Throughout the 11 pieces of music, the band proves they aren’t afraid to experiment… and have a bit of fun. A case in point is "Pick Your Fighter," which features Julien Truchan from Benighted on guest vocals, and was inspired by a French pop song – "Et c'est parti…" by Nâdiya – though you’d never guess it from the song’s crushing heaviness.

The rest of the lyrics on ‘Exuvia’ are written by Rachel – the first time she has expressed herself in this way, and the results are deeply personal, taking in anxiety, assault, and having to deal with grief. The expansive final track, "Élégie," is about losing her grandfather, and the regret that can come from things left unsaid.

On "Pig," meanwhile, she calls out the creepy men who send women unsolicited messages online, while the title track was inspired by her grandmother, who is currently battling cancer, and helped Rachel write the song's lyrics.

BOOZEWA Announce First West Coast Tour This July

Pennsylvania noise and grunge trio BOOZEWA will make their long awaited West Coast debut this July, bringing their loud, heavy, and unmistakably strange sound across California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, and Utah.

Formed in 2020, BOOZEWA features Jessica Baker on bass and vocals, Rylan Caspar on guitar and vocals, and mRc on drums. The trio draws from a sonic lineage that includes KARP, MELVINS, SONIC YOUTH, and SWANS, delivering a sound that is both punishing and unpredictable. The band includes former members of BACKWOODS PAYBACK and a current member of ALL ELSE FAILED.

Operating fully DIY through their own DeepRest Records imprint, BOOZEWA has released five records, singles, and EPs. Their latest release, a split with NOWHERE, is available now on 12 inch vinyl. The band has also worked in the studio with TAD DOYLE of TAD.

Portland dreampop outfit Wooden Overcoat shares 'Finally Arrived', previewing debut EP

Portland dreampop outfit Wooden Overcoat presents "Finally Arrived", the second taste of the band's debut "Hello Sunbeam" EP, featuring a hypnotic foundation of viscous Gooey guitars and deliberately slow thudding drums, creating a rhythmic trance-like pulse, locking in this dreamy soundscape.

The accompanying video was created by Italian multi-arts visionary Francesca Bonci, well known for her work with The Dandy Warhols, Pete International Airport and Slowdive's Rachel Goswell, LA's Tombstones In Their Eyes, Federale (The Brian Jonestown Massacre's Collin Hegna), post-rock outfit The Quality of Mercury, and iconic British bard Philip Parfitt.

Emerging from a period of digital isolation, 'Finally Arrived' weaves together a tapestry of personal mourning and romantic friction with a critique of the grand fantasies surrounding stardom. At its core, it examines the delicate nature of human connection, lamenting a cultural tendency to view individuals as replaceable assets rather than cherished companions.

Wooden Overcoat is the sonic brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Brant Hajek, having returned to music after a hiatus, recording songs he'd written in his late teens. What started as a practice in self-production transformed into a deep creative obsession with soundscapes and gear. Recording in a rented basement, Hajek built the foundation of the EP through spontaneous experimentation—often veering away from planned sessions to follow sudden bursts of inspiration.

"I wrote "Finally Arrived" when I was thinking a lot about social media, which I was completely off of for many years. Like many songs, it’s actually about multiple things all at once. Some of it reflects my own experience at the time going through grief and relationship issues, and it’s also about the delusions many people have about fame, making it big, becoming larger than life," says Brant Hajek.

"I think the through-line is actually about the fragility of our relationships to others in our lives. I was feeling that many people take others for granted and can sometimes treat people as expendable, which is something I find really sad."

Earlier, Wooden Overcoat shared their shimmering debut "Home", enveloping the senses in a reverb-drenched sanctuary and blending in sun-drenched textures. Between the wash of tape echo and reverb, the track finds a sweet spot where lo-fi garage psych meets 90s shoegaze, all anchored by layered harmonies and an evocatively intimate vocal delivery.

While Wooden Overcoat's lyrics and aesthetics might suggest a certain darkness, they are often rooted in inside jokes and a sense of warmth. You could call it an exercise in productive contradictions. Hajek’s creative process is a deeply personal, layered journey involving mumbled placeholder lyrics and a patient wait for the specific spark that turns an "emotionally restless" melody into a finished piece.

While Hajek performed every instrument on the studio recordings to preserve the project’s intimate DIY spirit, he has since found his tribe, assembling a full live band to translate these compositions to the stage. With Hajek leading on guitar and lead vocals, Wooden Overcoat is rounded out by Dillon Glusker on bass, Mac on guitar, and Brian Levin on drums and backing vocals.

The name Wooden Overcoat—an old Americana euphemism for a coffin—hints at the project’s core philosophy: a playful balance of moody, mystical imagery with light-hearted humor. Hajek’s creative process is personal, the rough versions eventually coalescing into vivid, emotionally resonant themes. In contrast, this music is vibrant, creating a fantastic dreamlike environment for lovers of life.

As of April 28, "Finally Arrived" is available from digital platforms everywhere, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. The debut "Hello Sunbeam" EP will be released on May 29. Wooden Overcoat performs next on May 16 at Portland's Midnight PDX & The Six Venue benefit show for the Portland Immigration Rights Coalition, along with Kerosel and Gondos. Then, on May 30, they play at Swan Dive with Jewelry Exchange and Only Only.

FRONTIERS ROCK FESTIVAL: Announces Line-Up Changes and New Additions

FRONTIERS MUSIC SRL regretfully announces some necessary changes to the Frontiers Rock Festival 2026 bill, and shares the confirmed set times for the event, set to take place on May 1, 2, and 3, 2026, at the Live Club in Trezzo sull’Adda (Milan), Italy.

 

Unfortunately, Frontline, Robin Beck, and House Of Lords will no longer be able to perform at this year’s edition of the Festival. These cancellations are due to serious and unexpected health issues affecting members of the artists involved.

 

While we are saddened that these performances can no longer take place, the health and well-being of the artists must take absolute priority. We extend our full support and best wishes to all those affected.

 

Frontiers Rock Festival is pleased to confirm that Russ Ballard, Dan Byrne, and Smoking Snakes will join the line-up and perform at the festival.

Joan As Police Woman ignites 'Eternal Flame' ahead of 'Real Life Evolution' album

Iconic NYC artist Joan As Police Woman presents her new rendition of 'Eternal Flame', the latest offering from her new “Real Life Evolution' album. Comprised of new arrangements of the songs from the original 'Real Life' album, this record will be released on CD, Limited Edition exclusive red marble vinyl and digitally on June 12 via UK independent Reveal Records .
 
Exactly 20 years since releasing her debut album "Real Life", Joan has reimagined and re-recorded the album in full with guests, including Iggy Pop and Krystle Warren. Twenty years in the making, this record was developed through countless nights on stage, these new arrangements brought to life by the musical brilliance of the players who helped define their sound. Contributors include Will Graefe, Jeremy Gustin, Tony Scherr, Parker Kindred, Danny Blume, Oren Bloedow and Thomas Bartlett.

Joan Wasser, known professionally as Joan As Police Woman since 2004, is a critically acclaimed musician and producer, dubbed “the coolest woman in pop” (The Times) and “one of the 21st century’s best musicians” (The Economist). As a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, her music defies easy categorization, crafting her own sound that blends various genres. She has released ten albums of original material, two cover albums, and an anthology.

Several weeks ago, Joan released Real Life Evolution versions of 'Flushed Chest' and 'The Ride', following the video for 'Anyone'. Accompanied by Will Graefe and Jeremy Gustin, she now unveils the fourth video in the 'The Real Life Anniversary Sessions', recorded at The Owl Music Parlor in Brooklyn by Adam Sachs and filmed by Ehud Lazin. The album version was recorded at Hayyam Studios in Istanbul by Ceylan Akcar and Sinan Sakizli.

Joan explains, “This arrangement grew from a beat Parker Kindred developed nearly a decade ago. It found its current form when Will Graefe crafted a beautiful acoustic guitar part, and the three of us — Will, Jeremy Gustin, and I — played it together every night on tour. I originally wrote it as a gospel song about the impossibility of being someone’s “everything.” Over time, it’s taken on a new meaning too: a reminder not to demand that of myself.”

Joan As Police Woman is a sought-after collaborator who has recorded and/ or performed with hundreds of artists, including Afrobeat legend Tony Allen, Lou Reed, Anohni & The Johnsons, Meshell Ndegeocello, Rufus Wainwright, John Cale, David Byrne, Dave Okumu, Chris Dowd, Lau, Scissor Sisters, Sparklehorse, Beck, Laurie Anderson, Lloyd Cole, Afel Bocoum, Dave Gahan, Tanya Donelly, David Sylvian, Steve Jansen and Damon Albarn (who duetted with Joan on her song 'Get My Bearings' and invited her to feature on the Gorillaz album 'Song Machine'). Swim the Current Bassist Survives Heart Attack as Band Releases "Already Dead"

The dynamic rock band Swim the Current is excited to announce the release of their latest single, "Already Dead", via TLG|ZOID, distributed by Virgin Music Group. This incredible new track was co-produced by George Pond and David Caplinger.

 

The title of the track has taken on a deeper meaning in the wake of a frightening real-world event involving bassist George Pond.

 

Pond recently traveled overseas to perform shows in Japan with Mass Punishment, but during the run he suddenly fell ill and suffered a massive heart attack far from home, away from friends and family. Fortunately, the band is relieved to share that George is now making a strong recovery, and is expected to return to the U.S. soon.

 

In a powerful coincidence, Swim the Current’s new single “Already Dead” arrives as a reminder of how quickly everything can change and how resilience can rise from even the darkest moments.

 

Alongside the single, Swim the Current also unveiled the lyric video for “Already Dead."

Having played in numerous bands throughout the years, Guitarist Greg Antine came to a point in his career where he wanted to branch out and write songs that had more depth and were inspired by his personal life experiences. Having worked with Bassist George Pond for several years in previous projects including, Disciples Of Verity, Greg expressed his concept for Swim The Current to George in hopes of collaborating with him on this new music venture. The two began to flesh out ideas in George’s home studio and realized quickly that they were on to something special, but still needed something more to see their ideas through to complete their concepts. Greg was introduced to Joe Gareri, Guitar/Keyboards, by George during the Disciples Of Verity debut album recording sessions which Joe is also featured on as a guest artist. The three of them immediately hit it off and worked extremely well together. Greg and George realized that Joe’s cinematic writing style would be a perfect match for their concepts and Joe was then brought in as a full time member. After two songs were completed and demo’d in George’s studio utilizing programmed drums, it was suggested by their friend Allyson Song River Jaynes, that they reach out to her friend, drummer Chris Moore of Ultraphonix, Rock Of Ages, to see if he would be interested in working with the project. Upon hearing the strength of songwriting and musicianship of the band, Chris was all in and signed on as the fourth full time member of STC and now the band, from an instrument’s perspective, was complete.

 

The final missing piece for STC was a lead vocalist who could capture the sound they envisioned for their music. After working in the studio with a few different vocalists, George ultimately reached out to his friend Marcos Leal, of legendary international touring band Ill Nino. Marcos loved the music of STC as well as having the freedom and creativity of writing lyrics for the project. After recording their first song together with Marcos, "We Are Not The Same", everyone new that this lineup was something special and Swim The Current was now complete! The release of "We Are Not The Same" took off instantly, and amassed thousands of streams, YouTube views and followers through a total organic DIY social media campaign.

 

Swim The Current’s sound is influenced and reminiscent of many of their favorite artists including, Deftones, Faith No More, Sevendust, POD, and Stabbing Westward. They continue to write new music and look forward to sharing their future releases with the world!

In "Reinos Fallidos", SARCOMA explore the theme of resilience drawing from their own hiatus taken in 2016 and the changes they encountered in their local scene at their return in 2023. The band present a powerful fusion of classic thrash and powerful modern metallic hardcore in this new offering. 

The track journeys through a devasting array of crushingly heavy sections. Opening with a dissonant lead, "Reinos Fallidos" speeds ahead into a fast-paced onslaught of intense driving guitars and Santiago Romero's fierce harsh vocals. An eerie moment of anticipation suddenly interrupts the heavy sound before the instrumentation unleashes a slower, methodical, pounding rhythm. Discordant harmonics and backing synth layers manifest a dark atmosphere. 

As "Reinos Fallidos" progresses towards its end, the musical arrangement shifts once more. The track incorporates further movement into the heavy instruments alongside technical riffs and glitches before slowing down to a deadly, abrupt end. 

The audio sample present at the beginning of the track contains a well-known quote by Ecuadorian painter Oswaldo Guayasamin (1919-1999), taken from his speech at the laying of the foundation stone of the “Capilla del Hombre”, his magnum opus. In this speech, Guayasamin strongly expressed his pride in his ethnic heritage and Latin American identity, affirming the connection to his people and his indigenous roots.

"Reinos Fallidos" was produced by Juan Pablo Flores and recorded at Valley of the Death recording studio. The single was mixed and mastered by Juan Pablo Rivas. 

Defiled Turn Heads on New Single “Obsession”

Though longtime masters of the vile art known as death metal, Defiled aren’t relics or custodians for the old-school. Since 1992, the living legends have shared the stage with Morbid Angel, Mayhem, Cannibal Corpse and Incantation, but their upcoming ninth album continues to take the genre in dark but unexpected directions. On Altered State, they deliver a dizzying blast of death metal straight from the future.    

Today, Defiled are releasing a music video for the second advanced single from Altered State. With its slippery groove, “Obsession” turns more heads than the occult.

“Altered State is an expansion of our last two albums, The Highest Level and Horror Beyond Horror”, Defiled guitarist and founding member Yusuke Sumita says. “It centers on altered states of human consciousness. Each song explores different forms of extreme psychology or mental manipulation”.

“‘Obsession’ delves into the fascinating story of Jack Parsons”, Sumita continues. “He was a pioneer of rocket fuel technology for NASA but also deeply immersed in the occultism of Aleister Crowley. The dramatic and tragic nature of his explosive demise felt deeply metaphorical to me. It compelled me to weave the intensity of his story into the lyrics of this song. I hope you find it a compelling journey!”

After hearing them pound out three albums in four years, metalheads would be forgiven for assuming Defiled had reached the highest level, that there were no horrors left for them to reveal. Altered State quickly quiets any further foolish suspicions. “Obsession” locks into a nasty groove, only for Sumita and fellow axesmith Shinichiro Hamada to shred through a labyrinthine of treacherously technical riffs.

“The music on Altered State is a combination of old-school death metal, technical-thrash riffs and the rhythmic changes of progressive rock”, Sumita says.

Defiled are still guided by the underground spirit, but “Obsession” delves deeper into their psychic perception of our warped reality. Bassist Takachika Nakajima and drummer Keisuke Hamada pound out rhythms that are truly twisted. “Obsessed by a dark vision”, Shinichiro Hamada growls. With one final headbanging twist, he and his bandmates descend into psychological hell. “Let the psychic flame burn”.  

Altered State isn’t afraid to wind through the darkest and most mysterious corners of our collective consciousness. But listen closely to Defiled and all secrets will be revealed. “Receive the power”, the band command on the album’s title track with a chaos that only they can control.

Philip Labonte of All That Remains' 2024 Op-Ed Gains Momentum as Federal Legislation Emerges

Philip Labonte, founder and lead singer of All That Remains, is drawing attention to his 2024 op-ed, "The Silent Crisis: Why Society is Failing Men and Boys," as new legislation introduced by Reps. Nathanial Moran (TX-1) and Derrick Van Orden (WI-3) reflects growing concern around the challenges facing men and boys in America. The op-ed was followed by multiple meetings on Capitol Hill to discuss how Congress can support boys and men across the country.

In the op-ed, Labonte highlighted rising male disengagement from education, work, and community, alongside increasing rates of depression, addiction, and suicide. His perspective is shaped by decades of direct interaction with fans, many of whom have shared personal struggles with isolation and lack of purpose.

"We are watching too many young men drift without direction or support," said Labonte. "If we don't take this seriously, we risk losing an entire generation not just of men, but of fathers and leaders."

Recent data underscores these concerns. According to the Pew Research Center, men now make up just 44% of college students, while the National Institute of Mental Health reports significantly higher suicide rates among men.

While the newly introduced legislation marks an important step in elevating these issues, Labonte is calling for broader awareness and action.

"This is a societal issue that requires real attention and real solutions," he added. "Acknowledging the problem is just the beginning."

Florida rock band Gunshine released their fourth track, “Finite,” offering fans a taste of their forthcoming full-length album, Grand Rising, due out digitally on July 24 through vnclm_ /  Create Music Group.

 

"'Finite' is one of my favorite tracks off the new record.  I wrote all the vocal melodies and the riff while actually working on a different song.  I then dropped what I was working on and finished writing the melodies, riff, and arrangement for what became 'Finite'.  I thought it had a powerful, driving feel to it, but with a super melodic chorus which is what I'm naturally drawn towards," shares Austin Ingerman. 

 

He adds, "The title 'Finite' was inspired by a book I was reading called 'Four Thousand Weeks' where it mentioned multiple times in the book 'We're so finite', advising people to try their best to value life's special moments and to not stress too much about work and finances, etc.  Our time is limited and if you're always seeking 'the next thing', the present moment will pass you by.  Jordan and I then sat down and finished writing the lyrics together.  This song was one of the first ones completed for the album." 

 

The song was tracked in Las Vegas with producer/engineer Chris Collier.  Chris also mixed and mastered the track, as well as, the whole record.

JON ANDERSON Celebrates 50th Anniversary of 'Olias of Sunhillow' with Mobile Fidelity Re-Release

Following the 1975 Relayer tour, the members of YES took a hiatus for each of the five members to produce solo albums. For lead vocalist JON ANDERSON, it meant bringing a mobile recording unit to his home in Buckinghamshire, UK, to create a self-produced album where he played all of the instruments, assisted by YES sound engineer Mike Dunne. The result was 'Olias of Sunhillow,' which was released by Atlantic Records on July 9, 1976, debuting at #8 on the UK album charts and #47 on the Billboard top 200.

JON comments on the upcoming release:

"The dream of Olias was to spend time learning how to play the numerous instruments I had collected over a period of time… which I kept in my garage…..ranging from guitars, Koto and ethnic flute instruments, harp and percussion to modern electronic keyboards.

I had sketched out the framework of a story relating to the power of music and connected to the Seven Sisters star system, The Pleiades.

Musically, THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT fuses Rand’s signature heavy riffs and affinity for strong melodic hooks with Carson’s commanding and versatile vocal delivery. Nonpoint are back with their hard-hitting new single “Is It,” available everywhere May 8th on all major digital streaming platforms. Known for their relentless energy, uncompromising sound, and undeniable live presence, the band continues to push forward with new music that captures the raw intensity fans have come to expect.

 

“Is It” serves as the first release from Nonpoint’s upcoming full-length album The Last Word, arriving in late summer 2026. Both the band and 361 Degrees Records are positioning this track as the opening statement of a new era, setting the tone for the album's themes and energy of the new record. Rather than following a traditional rollout, the song will debut on April 24, 2026, exclusively via the band’s official YouTube channel. The release will take the form of a hand-drawn, animated lyric video, offering a unique visual experience that complements the song’s message and listening experience while giving fans an early, immersive look into the creative world of The Last Word.

Elias goes on to explain the concepts behind the song "Is It."

“‘Is It’ is that internal conflict where you question getting too involved? Did I push too hard? Did I ask too much? It’s that feeling of wondering if doing what you thought was right actually meant hurting the people around you.”

 

Elias explains the bold concept behind his design imagery on the cover. 

"This album cover tells a piece of our story. After years of making music, we feel more aligned than ever—musically, visually, and creatively. We’re writing some of the strongest material of our career, our live shows are as powerful as they’ve ever been, and the band feels focused and energized. The pencil on the cover represents what it’s like to be handed one last tool and expected to fit everything you have left to say into it. Not because the ideas are gone, but because longevity often comes with assumptions and limits. The Last Word isn’t about accepting an ending. It’s about challenging that narrative. If this is the pencil we’re being handed, we’re going to use it—and make sure the words written with it still matter."
