Norwegian-UK outfit Permafrost has released their sophomore 'Permafrost' EPdigitally for the first time, including a previously unreleased mix. This four-track offering is available on all platforms as of October 15th, released on their own Fear of Music label with distribution by Secretly Noord.

Two years since its vinyl-only release, they now bring you the digital release of the ‘Permafrost’ EP, including the never-before-released Japanese Mix of ‘Sugarcubes’, featuring backing vocals by Tsugumi Takashi and Yoko Sawai.

Recorded at The Overlook, Braund Studios in Brooklyn and produced by Permafrost, this EP was mixed by Erik Braund (Mac DeMarco, A Place To Bury Strangers, Beach Fossils) and Shane O’Connel, and mastered by Paul Corkett (The Cure, Placebo, Sleeper, Strangelove).

Permafrost was formed in 1982 in Molde, Norway by school friends Frode Heggdal Larsen and Kåre Steinsbu during the first post punk era. Robert Heggdal and Trond Tornes joined in 2001, the group finally rounded out with the addition of London-based keyboardist Daryl Bamonte in 2016. They take their name from a song by Magazine with other notable influences being Joy Division, The Cure, Talking Heads, Pere Ubu, Yello, Fad Gadget, The Residents, Wire and Wolfgang Press.

Debuting with the ‘Godtment’ EP in 1983, released as a limited edition of 50 numbered cassettes, Permafrost issued their sophomore offering - the ‘Permafrost’ EP, a vinyl-only release, to high praise in 2019.

2021 brought a trio of critically acclaimed singles via Fear of Music label - 'Femme Fatale', 'Closed Eyes' and ‘Restore Us’, the latest offering from September featuring remixes by MAPS (a.k.a. UK producer James Chapman) and Paul Corkett. All three singles reached #1 on the Indie Disko Top40 Chart and Top 5 on the Deutsche Alternative Chart, the latter also reaching #1 on the Native25 Chart, in addition to significant press and radio play on six continents.

The 'Permafrost' EP is out now everywhere online, including Spotify, Apple Musicand Amazon. It can also be ordered directly from the band via Bandcamp. A limited number of copies are also still available on 12" vinyl while they last.

NONPOINT released their revision of "When Doves Cry" to all major platforms today. The single was originally released by Prince and the Revolution in 1984 and was one of the hit singles from the album Purple Rain.

Vocalist Elias Soriano says, “Our fans throughout the years have always had a quiet romance with the songs we like to cover. Seeing that our biggest showing in that category, our cover of Phil Collins ‘In The Air Tonight,’ was a suggestion from a friend and fan of the band, we thought it only fitting we let all our fans have a chance to throw their hats in the ring this time. So in the middle of a global pandemic, we threw up a bracket style voting tournament with a list of contenders from Metallica to DMX. As fans voted over a few weeks, it was exciting to watch it go from 16 songs to the final two, Metallica’s - Nothing Else Matters vs Prince’s - When Doves Cry. When they chose Prince, the real work began. We went through version after version. We knew we had to do it justice in the biggest way we could as tribute to Prince and still make it Nonpoint. I’m happy to report from initial response among the few who have heard it is exciting and we look forward to our fans singing it for years to come.”

Swedish action-rock trio THE DRIPPERS have released their new single ”Time For Some Action”. High octane garage punk ’n’ rock with raw vocals and thick, distorted guitars. The new single is the first taste of The Drippers’ upcoming sophomore album, which follows their acclaimed 2019 debut 'Action Rock'.

Viktor Skatt (bass + vocals) explains how the single ”Time For Some Action” came to be, "It was William who told us in the car, going up to Sunlight Studio, that he had a new song that was gonna be on the album. We'd worked hard and pre-produced the other tracks over several months so it seemed like he was a bit late to the party with this one. But we learned the song in the studio and worked on it for half an hour. Turned out it had a great groove to it, and with that commanding title it was a fitting song to choose as a first single. It's time for some action!!"

Vocalist Tom Templar comments, "Graveyard Sun felt like the most cinematic song on Black Harvest, so it was a logical choice for a music video. We were very lucky to collaborate with director Billy Price of Puppy and actor Julian Firth of Scum fame to take you on a paranormal trip into the vaults of Nunhead Cemetery. We had a lot of fun trying to capture a vibe somewhere between 70s paranormal investigation and the cinema of Jean Rollin, and hope you enjoy watching!’'

Recorded at Giant Wafer Studios in rural mid-Wales over the course of two weeks with longtime producer Wayne Adams (Petbrick, Big Lad), before being mastered by John Davis at Metropolis (Led Zeppelin, Royal Blood), Black Harvest is a more expansive and textured record than anything the band has done before, boasting a cinematic quality and more attention to detail. All samples were sourced from the local countryside and from instruments found in the studio, including the haunting opening vocal of The Harrowing which was recorded on a whim after the band broke into the local church (the organ can be heard creaking in the background).

Picking up where the self-released Woodland Rites left off, on Black Harvest, GREEN LUNG continues to draw inspiration from Britain's rich history of folklore, from witchcraft, and from cultish horror films. Nature - as always - is woven into the fabric of the songs; this time around the album was recorded in late autumn, and the seasonal atmosphere seeped into the music, which is redolent of mists, falling leaves, and the crumbling glory of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries of London, the city the band calls home.

GREEN LUNG recently completed a run of UK dates ahead of the release of Black Harvest. More dates will continue to be announced; the band will play Damnation Festival 2021 and Desertfest 2022.

American Hard Rock band Artifas was formed in 2011 in Jackson, TN by lead guitarist Cody Criswell and lead vocalist Scottie Somerville. In the months following, the two founders of the group would immediately recruit an assortment of hometown musicians and begin looking to record their debut EP. After having a long and ugly encounter that resulted in the theft of all the bands funds and receiving no album in return, the original incarnation of the group would spend 2012-2013 doing several independent tours and writing music. After debuting with their EP Enemy Inside in 2013 and doing numerous regional/national tours in support of it, the band replaced former members with guitarist Mikey Miller, bassist Anthony Mattox, and drummer Jared Wainscott.

With almost two years of touring with the new lineup under their belts, Artifas inked themselves a record deal and hit the studio to make their first full length album. The 2015 release of the title track, “Inhuman,” would bring the band some commercial success, reaching # 32 on Billboard’s Active Rock chart and sending the band on the road in support of their new album. The band landed tours with established artists like Theory of a Deadman, Shamans Harvest, Pop Evil, Saint Asonia, Aranda, and others. The follow up single from that record, “Blood 4 Blood”, would later get picked up by the World Series of Fighting and subsequently land a feature in the UFC movie “Fight Valley”. The band parted ways with their record label in 2016, and remained on tour throughout the US for most of the following year, also traveling internationally for the first time with the likes of Papa Roach, Hoobastank, P.O.D., Trapt, and Sick Puppies to play for our American Troops.

Multiple tour cycles later, Artifas found themselves back in the studio making new music. The band worked with multiple writers and producers throughout the entirety of 2018, but would ultimately only find themselves frustrated with the recordings that resulted. After a soul search within the group, Artifas elected to embrace their own vision and write/produce their next album independently, free from the creative overreach of outside influence.

After two years of writing, recording, and mixing, Artifas has completed the new album, and plans to unleash it upon the world. With catchy guitar riffs, dizzying drums, and soaring melodies, Reflections will send you on an emotional journey, exploring the band’s semi-prog, radio rock sound while diving deeper into the human complex with lyrics centered around self awareness and the bands own struggles with mental health. The goal for the creation of this album was to make a record that met the band’s expectations and you can rest assured they held nothing back. Back in the early 2000's, Leonard Cerzosie Jr. started a band with his brother called The Infinite Staircase that did very well as an independent band. the band worked with artists like Earl Slick from David Bowie's band, Candlebox, Sevendust, and even Zakk Wylde. In 2009, they scored a slot on tour with Black Label Society, Sevendust, and Dope that sealed a lot of friendships they still have to this day.

"In 2010, the love of my life passed away suddenly. Pill overdose. It was a devastating time. She was only 27. Morgan Rose and I wrote and recorded the EP, No Amends that was a dedication to my love" says Leonard Cerzosie Jr.

He continues, "Over the years, I've had my hand in multiple projects. I formed "Le Projet" around 2013 that featured members of Candlebox, Sevendust, and The Infinite Staircase. I also joined the Baltimore band "The Mayan Factor" a few years ago and have toured with them in Mexico City and the states. During all this, my mother was diagnosed with ALS. One day- after performing a friend insisted on introducing me to someone. He was confident we needed to meet. That was the day I met Jim Taylor. We did get along immediately and have since been composing all sorts of music together."

"When my mother passed away, Morgan got very involved with what was going on with me and my dad. He invited us out to his place in Atlanta multiple times. We started recording songs with Corey Lowery that would ultimately become "LeNNe". We spent much time digging deep for the right lyrics and tones. There were multiple artists involved over the course of a few years, but the official line up is me and Jim led by Morgan" he adds.

"Lenne is one of the most real artists I’ve ever come across. He wears his heart on sleeve, and expresses vulnerability that hits you in the heart. I love how he tells a story. These songs are an emotional roller coaster into the mind of a tortured soul" says Morgan Rose.

Trailblazing music icon Robin Guthrie to release new 'Mockingbird Love' EP

Robin Guthrie will release 'Mockingbird Love', an EP, on October 15th via Soleil Après Minuit. Ahead of the release, the track 'My Courtesan' is available to stream and as an instant grat download for anyone ordering directly from the artist via Bandcamp https://robinguthrie.bandcamp.com. Distribution in North America is via Darla and in Europe via Cargo. 

'Mockingbird Love' is the first new music from Guthrie since the 'Another Flower' album with the late Harold Budd, released just days before Budd's passing in December 2020.

“Of late I've been very focused on my instrumental music, which is increasingly an intense endeavour, all the more so as I don’t really share it with anyone. So here I am, finally, with some words about my next releases. ‘Mockingbird Love’, a four track EP, is the first small collection of music that I have felt comfortable to release for a while. This is my October,” says Robin Guthrie. 

“‘Mockingbird Love’ is concise, to the point, with a big sound and baritone guitars. But it’s just an appetizer as my November release and subsequent December releases will show. I have everything in production now and, hmmm, what could go wrong?”

The first in a series of releases that Guthrie will be releasing this year, Brooklyn Vegan notes that "it's a typically gorgeous instrumental, drenched in Guthrie's signature shimmery layers". 

39 years on from Cocteau Twins' debut release 'Garlands', Robin Guthrie has certainly been the most prolific member, offering a steady and stellar stream of material over the years. Having formed Violet Indiana with Siobhan de Maré (formerly of Mono) following Cocteau Twins' dissolution, he has since strongly focused on creating instrumental music, while also releasing collaborative albums with Harold Budd, John Foxx (Ultravox) and Mark Gardener (Ride). 

Apart from the film scores for Gregg Araki's ‘Mysterious Skin’ and ‘White Bird In a Blizzard’, which were co-written with Harold Budd, Guthrie has also scored the film '3:19’, Kaboom and the TV series ‘Now Apocalypse’…

More recently, Robin produced and mixed the new Heligoland album 'This Quiet Fire', as well as creating remixes for artists such as Hatchie, Fawns of Love, Resplandor, Ummagma, Ulrich Schnauss and Tamaryn at his studio in France.

'Mockingbird Love' will be released on CD as well as digitally on all major platforms.

CEREBELLION - New EP 'Something You Can Say' is OUT NOW!

Orange County, CA metal band CEREBELLION has released a new 4-song EP, titled 'Something You Can Say', on the heels of their third album 'Beyond Our Failures', which dropped in late 2020. The quartet, consisting of twin brothers Joe (vocals) and John Arnold (guitar), built a fervent underground following in 2020 by releasing six killer singles ahead of the album release. After the album dropped and with no end to the pandemic in sight, the band was faced with the big question..."what’s next?"

Guitarist John Arnold states, “my relationship with my long-time girlfriend had just ended; we’re in the middle of a lockdown and I can’t go anywhere. I suddenly found myself obsessing over guitar playing in a way that I hadn’t since I was in high school. I was inspired...and the music just started pouring out.”

Amidst the pandemic, the band traveled back and forth to Las Vegas to work with Logan Mader (Gojira, Five Finger Death Punch, Devildriver), who co-produced, mixed and mastered 'Something You Can Say' to achieve Cerebellion’s heaviest and best sounding material to date.

Vocalist Joe Arnold says, “Logan, being a guitarist and a producer of super-heavy bands, I was pleasantly surprised with his attention to my vocal melodies and harmonies. He added some really great melodic ideas.” The distance, however, forced the band to record most of the guitars, bass, drums, and half of the vocals at their own home studios in Orange County. Bassist Marc Battung notes, “the limitations of the pandemic really forced us to expand our self-sufficiency in pre-production and recording.”

The result is a production that you would expect from Mader: heavy as hell, tight and in-your-face but still retaining that raw energy from the band.

With a mix of metalcore and post thrash riffery, hooky aggressive singing a la Hetfield, intense double bass drumming, and Spanish guitar melodies, Cerebellion manages to add twists and turns without detracting from the focus of the song. Joe Arnold declares “we pride ourselves on each song having its own identity and soul.” Jesse Cannon from Musformation (YouTube channel) adds “You hear something real in their sound that is often missing from music today.”

Joe’s lyrics on “Something You Can Say” reflect the perils of the digital world being constantly in our faces and the divisiveness and addictive behavior it breeds, which has become all too apparent during the pandemic. In direct contrast to the theme of last year’s 'Beyond Our Failures', “Feel It Awake” from the new EP, looks at the toll of examining one’s worth through an “all or nothing” lens and opts instead for trying to be more present in the simpler moments in life.

According to Joe, “we set out to write great songs and we’re very proud of what we accomplished. We think we outdid ‘Beyond Our Failures’.” What do you think?

The Kings of Quarantine came together in 2020 after a discussion between Jason and Bill about possibly collaborating on a cover song. "Just Another Victim" is the fourth installment in a series of covers that will be released throughout 2021 in an effort to bring some joy and entertainment to music lovers worldwide.

“We hope to not only put a smile on people’s faces, but also help the touring staff that have been severely affected by the pandemic”, says Jason Rockman. One hundred percent of the profits will be donated toRoadie Relief, a fundraising effort to aid qualifying Roadies who have submitted an application for financial help.

The Kings of Quarantine have no plans of slowing down, with more star-studded covers to be released in the near future!

Almost everyone you know has seen a concert that has moved them. Those productions can take over 100+ traveling crew members to set up by the time doors open.

Before and during the show they sweat and hustle to get everything ready. After the show they spend more hours erasing evidence that they were ever there at all. Many of these key players work an average of 20 hour days, then move on to the next city to make it happen all over again.

Many of these crew members, "roadies," have been doing this as a career for decades. Some of these roadies, while experts in this field, have never had any other job experience. Since the world pandemic, well over a hundred thousand of these people are left with no income and no financial assistance.

There are no concerts or live events for the foreseeable future. At the beginning of 2020, job opportunity ceased to exist and 2021 remains uncertain. Many are unable to claim unemployment as their expert level trade skills are not recognized and they do not qualify. This on-going problem is leaving 100s of roadies without a secure livelihood.

The government has fallen short. Contacting congressmen and women, senators, and governors to raise the issue has been met with no resolution. Their replies are a formal brush-off and roadies are left hitting a dead end.

The goal with this gofundme is to offer some relief to some of the dedicated people in the roadie community. Just like you, they have families, mortgages, car payments, and day care. Commonly these workers lean on their savings between tour cycles, but those funds have run thin or run out. Please donate if you can, every little helps.

Singer/guitarist Aðalbjörn Tryggvason has always worn his vast musical influences on his sleeve. Be it an ENTOMBED sticker emblazoned on his guitar, queueing up Ennio Morricone before a set, or paying homage to Lemmy Kilmister with his cowboy sensibilities, it’s no secret that his love for music cannot be contained to any one genre. Now, Tryggvason is taking his adoration for crust punk to an exciting new level with his latest project, BASTARÐUR, which channels influences such as NAPALM DEATH, TERRORIZER, MOTÖRHEAD,and DISFEAR. 

“The idea of writing death metal in the vein of old ENTOMBED came in 2018,” Tryggvason says on the project’s inception. “Not being able to channel my love for such music through my main band [SÓLSTAFIR], I began writing riffs, and riffs became songs, and all the sudden it had more crust punk elements than I had foreseen.” And yet, despite the apparent departure from SÓLSTAFIR’s sound, Tryggvason’s signature voice and brief moments of atmospheric texture color the record in familiar shades that ring true to his core musical identity.  

The band was born during personal turmoil, a prime example of turning a negative situation into a positive opportunity. “Living with my parents after a relationship break up and being unemployed, I set up a small studio in my dad’s garage, and after a few months there was an album of material,” explains Tryggvason. “Me and my good mate Birgir Jónsson, most known for his work with Icelandic metal act DIMMA, had for years talked about making music together, and this seemed the perfect time, so we got ourselves into a studio with former SÓLSTAFIR live sound guy Jóhann and recorded the album in a few days.” 

Tryggvason tapped several other co-conspirators to contribute towards his vision. Guest vocals are attributed to Marc Grewe (MORGOTH/INSIDIOUS DISEASE) and Alan Averill (PRIMORIDIAL), the latter of whom also penned the lyrics on two of the album’s tracks. Some of the blistering guitar solos were handled by Ragnar Zolberg, whom SÓLSTAFIR fans may know as he has filled in on bass for the band during occasional live shows, and Thrainn from SKÁLMÖLD. “I dare to call them Hanneman/King of Iceland,” Tryggvason says of the talented pair of axmen.  

BASTARÐUR’s debut also takes a cue from Tryggvason’s distant musical past and rudimentary beginnings. “I used to be in a punk band called BÖLVUN, where I played drums,” he explains. “’Afturhalds Kommatittir’ is from that band, so we got Ingi Thor Pálsson and Flosi Þorgeirsson to play on that song. Flosi also does a bass solo on ‘Viral Tumor.’ 

Now, after three years in the making, BASTARÐUR is finally ready to make its debut via Season of Mist!

NOVENA ANNOUNCES "THE STOPPED CLOCK" EP

In early 2020, like many musicians around the world, Novena’s plans for their debut album "Eleventh Hour" - ironically all about time and mortality – were upturned. Time felt like it had come to a standstill. So, bunkered down in quarantine in the UK, Novena set to work on a series of "Live From Home" performances culminating in a live EP, the aptly titled "Live From Home EP," which was released on July 30, 2021. Now, bringing the "Eleventh Hour" chapter to a close, Novena are proud to present 22 minutes of new music in a new 3-track EP, "The Stopped Clock." For the past couple of years, Temple Balls has kept busy both in the studio and on the stage. Opening for such bands as Sonata Arctica, Queen, Deep Purple, and Uriah Heep, the band has proven to be more than capable of handling stages of any size, whether it be a big festival or your local club’s stage. Live, this band will set your friggin’ pants on fire and turn you into a believer.

The band’s first official single, ’Hell And Feelin’ Fine’ was released in September 2016 and got loads of airtime on Finnish Radio Rock. The band’s debut album was recorded at Karma Sound Studios (Thailand) in May 2016, and saw the daylight on February 24, 2017. The album was produced by Tobias Lindell, who is known for his collaborations with Europe, Mustasch, and H.E.A.T. Fall of 2017 started with a sold out tour across Finland with Battle Beast. The band also played in Japan for the first time and did a five day tour of Ukraine in late 2017. After their swing through Japan, the readers of the biggest Japanese rock magazine Burrn! voted Temple Balls as ‘the second brightest hope’ and additionally were chosen as ‘The Newcomer of the Year’ on Masa Ito’s Rock TV.

The second album, “Untamed” dropped on March 8, 2019 and immediately got fantastic reviews from music media such as Soundi and Burrn! magazines. The band also toured Europe as support for Sonata Arctica, cementing their reputation as a stellar live act.
