STIFF LITTLE FINGERS RELEASE ARCHIVAL CD/DVD SET, ‘LIVE AT ROCKPALAST 1980/1989’

The longest-tenured Irish punk band is undoubtedly Stiff Little Fingers – who have been bashing and thrashing since 1977. And the double-disc set, Live at Rockpalast 1980/1989 – released on June 25, 2021 – shows that the band remained a vital live band (and also, stayed true to their roots) throughout the ‘80s, despite a five-year hiatus smack dab in the middle of the decade.

Singer/guitarist Jake Burns has been the band’s leader since their inception – with bassist Ali McMordie standing right alongside Jake most of the time – which saw Stiff Little Fingers being a part of the first-wave of Euro punk bands, which included the lofty likes of the Sex Pistols, the Clash, and the Damned, the Buzzcocks, the Jam, etc. And in the process, Stiff Little Fingers issued such classic punk LP’s as Inflammable Material, Nobody’s Heroes, and Go for It, plus the punk anthems “Alternative Ulster,” “Suspect Device,” and “At the Edge.”

Comprised of a total of three discs, Live at Rockpalast 1980/1989 will certainly satisfy both your audio and visual needs – the first two discs are audio-only, featuring the 1980 and 1989 performances, while the third disc is a DVD of the group’s classic 1980 appearance on Germany’s long-running music show.

And the performance remains memorable all these years later for the band, as Jake recalls:

"We were all well aware of what a great show Rockpalast was, having seen quite a few while touring in Europe, so we were delighted to be asked to appear. We got there a day early and went to the venue as our friends, UFO, were playing. It was a great insight into the audience's perspective. And a little bit daunting as we hadn't realized how big the auditorium was!

However, we needn't have worried as the next evening the place was packed and the audience were with us from the first note. They were wonderful, singing and bouncing along. It really felt like a "home game" to use a football analogy. I thought we played really well too, apart from a slight timing mistake during "Back to Front", a new song we were still learning. (See if you can spot my giving Jim the "look of death" at that point! LOL!)

We rounded the night off in our hotel bar with another bunch of friends, The Jam, who were also on the bill. It's a show and audience I remember with great affection. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to be a part of the Rockpalast story."

Combichrist Announces New Fall Tour dates with King 810, Heartsick and Reign of Z

Industrial core band Combichrist announced dates for the first leg of their fall tour that includes bands King 810, Heartsick and Reign of Z. The tour kicks off on September 19th in Rochester, NY at Montage Music. The band has new music coming soon from Out of Line Records.

“Time to get back on stage!I’ve been waiting way too long for this, and can’t believe we’re finally back on track! Let’s fucking do this!”says Andy LaPlegua, the band's vocalist.

Initially cutting his teeth in the seminal Norwegian hardcore bands My Right Choice (later re-named Fleshfire) and European hardcore legends; Lash Out, LaPlegua segued into the electronic music world with Icon of Coil. Originally a solo project, it morphed into a full band. Not only did IOC mark LaPlegua's first major work with electronics and dance beats, but it also granted him wider exposure beyond Norway; IOC was LaPlegua's first project to be released in the United States.Itwasn't until 2003 that LaPlegua founded Combichrist -the project that would soon dominate his time. A departure from IOC's softer electronic sound, Combichrist took LaPlegua's hardcore past and electronica present and merged them into a singular, mechanical monster. Without the compromise of the band dynamic, LaPlegua, who does everything in the studio himself on Combichrist releases, was able to explore whatever avenue he desired musically. What he found was a long dark road with plenty of twists and turns. The Joy of Gunz, LaPlegua's first release as Combichrist, was quickly followed by two EP's: 2004's Kiss the Blade and Sex Drogen und Industrial. In 2005, LaPlegua was back at it again, releasing the landmark album Everybody Hates You. Defying the dreaded sophomore slump, the second Combichrist full-length featured two tracks that would become club classics "This Shit Will Fuck You Up" and "This Is My Rifle" and was also the project's U.S. debut on Metropolis Records. Further benchmarks were set with the release of the 2006 EP Get Your Body Beat, the title track of which landed Combichrist its first appearance on Billboard's Top 10 Dance Singles chart.

The years that followed brought on 6 more full-length albums —What the Fuck Is Wrong with You People? (2007), Today We Are All Demons (2009), Making Monsters (2010), No Redemption(Official DmC: Devil May Cry Soundtrack)(2013), We Love You (2014), This Is Where Death Begins (2016) -as well as a handful of additional EPs. On top of Combichrist's many releases, LaPlegua has also logged countless miles, globetrotting on tours of Europe, South America, Australia, the United States, and four full months in Europe and North America touring with Rammstein (in front of hundreds of thousands of people).Combichrist released album One Fire, in June of 2019.

Fraternal Thrash Metal trio HAMMERHEDD have dropped another music video from the group's debut studio album. The band partnered with Metal Injection for the premiere of their new video for the track "Sediment", which can be seen here. Pittsburgh, PA to Los Angeles, CA transplants, REIGN OF Z have signed to GODSIZE RECORDS. The band released a brand new single, "IGNITE" to all major platforms on July 2, 2021 alongside the official music video.

The video was filmed and directed by Tom Flynn (All That Remains, 10 Years, Body Count) and is “an anthem for all of those that have been burnt in a relationship”, says RoZ frontwoman Zosia West. The track, which saw RoZ working with Steve Sopchak & Justin Spaulding of Square Studios in Syracuse NY and Sid Riggs of Riggs Records in Pittburgh, is the first single from their forthcoming debut EP to be release in early 2022.

After incubating for the larger part of 2020 – at time when creative mastermind Al Jourgensen was able to ruminate on the new world we as a society have found ourselves in – the time has finally come for Ministry to unleash their much-anticipated 15th studio album.

Aptly titled Moral Hygiene, the album will be released via Nuclear Blast Records on October 1. With some of Ministry’s strongest and most inspired material to date, the 10 tracks are a follow-up to 2018’s lauded AmeriKKKant and put forth Jourgensen’s societal manifesto and plea for civilization to get back to a set of standards that lives up to and embraces our humanity.

"The good thing about literally taking a year off from any social activity or touring is that you really get to sit back and get an overview of things as they are happening, as opposed to being caught up in the moment. And what I saw with how we handled several public crises - from the pandemic to racial injustice to who we vote in to lead our country - is that times are changing, and society needed to change to get away from the idea that has permeated us of take care of yourself, fuck everything else. Now more than ever we need moral hygiene,” says Jourgensen of the new album. “It consumed me as I wrote this album. It’s not some pious term. It’s what we have to return to in order to function as the human species on this planet. And I'm proud to have had such great guests on this album to help cement that message like Billy Morrison, Jello Biafra and Arabian Prince.”

In conjunction with today’s album announcement, the latest track “Good Trouble” is also released. The song, inspired by the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests and the activist work of the late Congressman John Lewis, is accompanied by a new video that includes sampling from last year’s demonstrations in Los Angeles as captured by Jourgensen and his partner Liz Walton.

Jourgensen adds about the new single, "I was watching the coverage last July around Lewis’ death and was in awe the next day when this entire letter from him was published in the New York Times. How suss was that to want to keep making progress after his death by thinking about the legacy he left? I was struck by the reflectiveness of his speech, knowing he was dying and making sure it was released because he saw trouble ahead. That is the moral hygiene of this album - we have to do something to change and I really hope we continue to act and live up to the idea of getting into good trouble for the benefit of society."

Moral Hygiene also includes the previously released “Alert Level” that sounded the alarms about our collective dissonance towards the pandemic, climate change and the man formerly in the White House, bolstered by the song’s overarching question posed to listeners: “How concerned are you?”

The new album also adds perspective to the countless lives that were tragically lost to the COVID-19 pandemic on the haunting track “Death Toll” while “Disinformation”decries the too frequent willingness to accept everything – even mistruths – as fact.

Other musical jewels on the upcoming release include a collaboration with Jello Biafra (Jourgensen’s cohort in side project LARD) on “Sabotage Is Sex” and a unique take on The Stooges’ “Search And Destroy” that features guitar virtuoso Billy Morrison (Billy Idol/Royal Machines). Morrison is also heavily featured on a number of songs on the album.

Moral Hygiene was recorded with engineer Michael Rozon (also behind the boards on AmeriKKKant) at Scheisse Dog Studio, Jourgensen’s self-built home studio and creative lab. As with all Ministry albums, all songs are written and performed by Al Jourgensen. Additional contributions come from Billy Morrison (Billy Idol, Royal Machines), Cesar Soto (Man The Mute), John Bechdel (Killing Joke, Fear Factory), Roy Mayorga (Stone Sour, Soulfly, Nausea), Paul D’Amour (Tool, Feersum Ennjin),Arabian Prince (N.W.A.), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) and sitar player Flash.

ABOUT MINISTRY

Born in 1981 in Chicago, Ministry has been the lifetime passion project of founder Al Jourgensen, considered to be the pioneer of industrial music. In its early days, Ministry was identifiable by its heavy synth-pop material in line with the new sounds and technology that were being developed in the ‘80s. Ministry’s output began with four 12” singles on Wax Trax! Records in 1981 before the first LP With Sympathy in 1983 via Arista Records. As time progressed however, so did Ministry, quickly developing a harsher, and more stylized sound that the band soon became infamous for on seminal albums Twitch (1986), The Land of Rape and Honey (1988), and The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste (1989). With the release of Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and The Way to Suck Eggs (1992), Ministry hit an all-time high in the mainstream musical realm and received its first Grammy nomination. In total, Ministry has been nominated for a Grammy award six times. Eight more albums would follow before an indefinite break in 2013, only to be unearthed again in 2018 with AmeriKKKant, continuing to reflect Jourgensen’s views on the frightening state of society and politics. "'Afterglow' is the lyrical centerpiece of the album of the same name. It goes straight to the pain stimulus of post-traumatic stress without detours and expresses the pain and suffering, but also the despair of having to carry the past on your shoulders for a lifetime."

Rising Insane is not just the name but also what happened literally to these five guys from northern Germany over the last few years. After their self-released debut album, 'Nation' in 2017, the band gained attention quickly in the German metal scene on shows with Stray From The Path and For Today, as well as a support slot for Annisokay on their 2018 headline run.

In 2019 they played at the Impericon Festival and got signed by Long Branch Records. This led to the band's first label release, 'Porcelain' in November 2019, which received outstanding reviews from around the world and accelerated them into international attention. In the aftermath of the album release, the band kept busy and recorded a well-received cover version of "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd. This cover got the band even more worldwide attention and spread their name even wider. Due to the pandemic, their first headline run had to be cancelled in 2020 and the band decided to stay active, recording an EP named 'Recovered' with even more cover songs, including "Blinding Lights".

Now Rising Insane are back with new music and ready to elevate into an even higher stratosphere. They stay true to their post-hardcore and metalcore roots, but have clearly grown as a band and as individual musicians. The sound is more mature and the songs will not leave any questions as to whether these guys can stay true to their name and keep rising insane!

"The Song Broken Hearted Man is a true story based on the life of my brother Justin Persico. He’s my younger brother, so that was fun, but anyone who has brothers know what I mean. Let’s just say it can go both ways quick. The story follows us as we were teens growing up in Seneca IL. It's a coming of age kinda tale I guess" says Tony Persico, the band's vocalist.

'Infernum In Terra' is the fourth studio album from A Pale Horse Named Death, and was mastered by Maor Appelbaum (Faith No More, Meat Loaf, Yes, Sepultura, Rob Halford, etc.) at Maor Appelbaum Mastering, while the artwork was done by Kelvin Doran of Serpent Tusk Studios. 

"The album to me represents a new beginning, turning a new leaf shall we say with the same vibe from past albums but with a fresh open minded approach," says band leader Sal Abruscato. He adds: "There is no real concrete specific concept, it touches on some personal topics in my life long, my interest in the dark arts, that to have light you must have darkness to balance everything. Sal Abruscato was born in Brooklyn, NY Started playing drums at age 10. He is the co-founder of Type O Negative with Peter Steele and performed on Slow, Deep & Hard, Origin Of The Feces, Bloody Kisses, and various best of and soundtracks. Sal was the drummer for Life Of Agony and performed on River Runs Red, Ugly, River Runs Again, Broken Valley, and A Place Where There's No More Pain. VELVETS Announce Self Titled Debut Album

Helsinki rock duo VELVETS are set to release their debut, self-titled album on The Sign Records in Autumn 2021. 'Velvets' offers a fresh take on classic-sounding rock. Smooth guitar licks and sweet vocal melodies add up to colorful soundscapes that are as hip-shakingly catchy as they are beautiful and dreamlike. The new album is packed with honest and tender rock n roll, performed with heart, soul, and ambiance.

'Velvets' contains 8 tracks ranging from swift boogie-riffin’ and synth-infused foot tappers to softer, love-themed ballads. The album was recorded and mixed by Sakke Vänttinen at his cottage in Hamina and at the Velvets rehearsal place in Helsinki. Mastering was done by Matias Ahonen at Audiamond.

'Velvets' will be released on The Sign Records on September 24th. The album will be available on CD, vinyl, and all streaming platforms. 

VELVETS Bio:

VELVETS are an endless summer night dipped in a bucket of rock, blues, schlager and funk with a cool breeze coming at you from the south. All set in a timeless space, where the past, present, and future are fused into one. The songs will take you on a journey of love and longing, speeding on the highway and taking off to a place beyond the stars.

 Velvets was born in January 2021, when the duo Sami and Sakke were desperately in need of creating new music. With too much time on their hands after finishing the second Rokets album, the Finnish band where the two first met each other as members. The first idea for Velvets was to write love songs and stick to them, kicking things off by listening to a lot of Moon Martin. 

 The duo has previously toured Finland and the Baltic countries extensively with Rokets since August 2017, well known in Finland for their sweaty, energetic live shows. The band opened for Kaleidobolt in Helsinki for their album release party of their latest album "Bitter" and were the closing act of the first day of the Finnish festival Kill Sörnäinen in Helsinki. With two EP's titled "Rokets" and "Speed & Sound" and the debut album "Fast Times", released on digital and vinyl format in 2020/2021 under the belt the duo decided that it was time for a project of their own - Velvets. Besides Velvets and Rokets, Sakke has played in the hardcore band Locked Up and the country band Rusty Triggers. Sami shares the hardcore background, starting his musical career as the singer of heavy metal band United Seafood.

 The band sounds like a session where Moon Martin, Hurriganes, ZZ Top, Thin Lizzy, and The Allman Brothers started experimenting on a new kind of sound that brought all the pieces together from the different styles of the sweet, sweet music we call rock n roll. This is not your average rough and tough, rowdy and raunchy boy band, with the testosterone levels going through the roof. This is Velvets; beautiful, meaningful songs with melodies born of warm memories and moments we’ve shared with someone we hold dear.

Alan Brown, frontman of Manchester agit-postpunk icons bIG*fLAME, has announced a new album under his solo moniker The Great Leap Forward. On July 30, Europe's A Turntable Friend Records will be releasing 'Revolt Against An Age of Plenty' as a coloured double-vinyl gatefold LP, and it will also be available for digital download and on gatefold CD with 16-page lyrics booklet.

What better way to announce the new release than a catchy video for the title track, a vibrant foreshadowing of what's to come on this vigorous, scintillating and life-affirming 13-track album. Railing against mass consumerism and media control, the accompanying video and imagery for 'Revolt Against An Age of Plenty' was created by Richard Gardner.

Alan Brown is a multi-instrumentalist songwriter and lyricist whose legacy as a British underground artist became apparent from 1983 onwards. Featured on the influential C86 NME cassette as part of bIG*fLAME, Brown also recorded nine John Peel sessions for BBC Radio One in the 1980’s with bIG*fLAME (4), The Great Leap Forward (2), A Witness (2) and Inca Babies (1).

Since bIG*fLAME split up in 1986, Brown has channeled his work as The Great Leap Forward, writing all songs and lyrics, as well as playing and programming all instruments on recordings.

Mixed, produced & mastered together with Ant Chapman (Franz Ferdinand, The Wolfhounds, Astronauts), The 'Revolt Against An Age of Plenty' LP features Brown's trademark political digs and social commentary, with incisive political and social commentary layered over sharp yet melodic guitar pop – plus a touch of electro and humour thrown in for good measure. Not surprisingly, the name ‘Revolt Against An Age Of Plenty’ was lifted from an article by one of Brown's favourite social commentators and writers, Jack Common, whose works he has drawn on heavily for inspiration for decades.  

"The culmination of four year's writing, this album has a more varied approach than previous releases. Whereas previously I've concentrated on a political approach, this album takes a wider view of the world - perhaps it's an age thing - last year (2020) saw me reach a milestone birthday which I explore in the song 'Can You Kanreki?’, celebrating the Japanese concept of second childhood and re-birth for those hitting 60," says Alan Brown.

"Of course I still provide the trademark political and social vignettes - how could I not - such as the title song of the album 'Revolt Against An Age Of Plenty' – named after a collection of works by the English writer Jack Common in which I rail against mass consumerism and media control."

The Great Leap Forward released the debut EP ‘Controlling The Edges Of Tone’in 1987, followed by 1988's ‘A Peck On The Cheek À La Politique’ EP, described by the NME as "conspicuously excellent" and thel 12-inch single ‘Who Works The Weather?’ 

1988 brought the release of the debut long-player ‘Don't Be Afraid Of Change’, praised by The Guardian and Melody Maker, among other leading publications, and tours of the UK and Europe as support for the likes of That Petrol Emotion. In 2007, he revived The Great Leap Forward, releasing ‘Finished Unfinished Business’ the next year, followed by the album ‘This Is Our Decade of Living Cheaply and Getting By' in 2012.

As of July 16, the title track 'Revolt Against An Age of Plenty' will be available across streaming platforms like Spotify and online stores such as Apple Music. The full album will be released in all formats on July 20.

Its deviant, raw, nasty, disturbing, and yet, the most lively, evolved, and polished version of the trio yet.

For the first part of its career, The Lion’s Daughter was deeply rooted in blackened sludge metal. However, when it came time for album number three, the St. Louis trio abandoned all tradition and traversed into new territory through bold experimentations with Future Cult, a synth-laden metal record that could easily serve as the score to a Dario Argento film. Now, the band picks up where it left off, once again delivering an opus that cannot be labeled or defined. “The synths were always something that I heard in my head, but just couldn't figure out the logistics,” explains frontman Rick Giordano regarding the distinct directional change. “I also had to completely stop giving a fuck about how anyone might react to them. Most of the synths on Future Cult are very aggressive and rooted in horror, which I think was a safe way to use them. For this record, I wanted to stop playing it safe. I wanted to use more natural synth sounds and let things take on soft and somber tones at times, rather than just screaming alongside the guitars at all times. There was a lot of experimenting to see what other roles the synths could play in the music and what shapes they could create. I think we spent our early years as a band just trying to figure out who we were, and on Future Cult, the answer became clear to us. Instead of changing that formula, we chose to expand on it and see where else it could lead.”

While Skin Show is rife with the trepidation of eerie synths and a cinematic atmosphere much like its former, it is not a replica, nor does it follow the same formulaic approach. Future Cult delivered darkness in excess – heavy, unnerving, and unmistakably inspired by vintage horror and sci-fi movie scores. In contrast, Skin Show is its brighter counterpart, capturing an essence that, on the surface, might seem tamer and more palatable in comparison. However, the album still dwells deep in deviance. Each passage, no matter how glossy, is offset with belligerent vocals and lyrics that detail sexual violence, shame, abuse, desperation, and paranoia. It’s the type of record that can easily garner coveted radio airplay, and yet, it can also serve as the background playlist for a BDSM orgy in an illegal dungeon or abandoned warehouse. “This was our attempt at a straight-forward pop record,” says Giordano. “It, of course, all still came out fucked because it's us creating it. But I tried to imagine our band playing a giant arena and what that would sound like. I wanted to strip away some of the chaos and just write stronger songs. I didn't want the band to mellow out, but I did want to see if we could mature a bit. If the previous album was an intense sci-fi slasher, this one would be closer to a Hitchcock or DePalma film.”

Make no mistake, while there is a blatant antithesis between the band’s two personalities, the duality is a major part of Skin Show’s identity. Reflected not only in the music, but also through the ominous and unsettling artwork created by Mothmeister. When asked about the collaboration, Giordano says, “We worked with Mothmeister again for the album art and used a similar approach as we did with the music. Things are stripped down, more direct, more focused. There's a sense of fear, isolation, and madness that very much correlates with the music. The character on the outside is in white and surrounded in light, while the character on the inside is in black surrounded by darkness. But it's ultimately two sides of the same character. I think that's a good representation of the themes within the album, dark things within people that they may want to keep hidden.”

The Lion’s Daughter may elude all characterization, fitting in all boxes while also fitting in none at all, but one thing is for certain, the genuine artistry behind Skin Show is forthright and undeniable. Whether it be a poppy opus like the title track or the haunting and sludgy vibes of “The Chemist,” all ten tracks are guaranteed to be bangers, holding the listener at knifepoint and demanding their attention with each and every note.
